Being born and raised in Colorado, I found my love for the Rockies in a state that holds so many beautiful places. Through the years, I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many of the other states across the Rockies and have found a certain charm to all of them. Something about the fresh air blowing through the evergreens, or the sand blowing across the Southwest deserts, and the aqua blue lakes in the north, I couldn’t think of a better place to say “I do!” than the Rockies.

SANTA FE sitting amongst the sangre de cristo foothills, santa fe is an artist colony filled with pueblo-style buildings and spanish influences. the heart of the city lies in the central plaza, where shops, restaurants and art merge to create a cultural melting pot.

S A N TA F E 1 0 1 Advice for a perfect Santa Fe trip featuring favorite spots of the area. Planning ahead can make all of the difference for your guests and you.

joanna robertson photography

S E A S O N A L W E AT H E R With year-round beautiful weather and clear days, Santa Fe shines as an ideal wedding location. From May to August, the weather is warm and sunny, perfect for an outdoor ceremony. Fall brings cooler temps making it the most popular time of the year to tie the knot. If you are looking for that warm weather vibe and plenty of rays, July might be your best bet with average temps in the low-90s. On the other hand, if you are wanting a cozy and cool ambiance to your day, look to January and February. For a more moody day, check out the end of July through August. While there is a chance of rain, storm clouds instantly add a dramatic feel, and they say rain on your wedding day is good luck, right?

W H AT T O P A C K Guiding guests on what to pack for your wedding can take a lot of the guesswork out of their decision. Feel free to add your wedding attire, whether it be cocktail casual or black-tie optional, to your wedding website. Here is also a great place to add little tidbits too, such as packing a shawl for the cooler months or sunglasses if you are having an outdoor summer ceremony.

ACTIVITIES At the heart of the city, find the Santa Fe Plaza, a National Historic Landmark. With winding streets, the charming area is filled with artisan shops, boutiques, restaurants, bookstores, art galleries and chapels. Tour the Loretto Chapel designed with Gothic-style architecture after the Sainte Chapelle in Paris and featuring the Miraculous Staircase. Or stroll over to the awe-inspiring Cathedral Basilica Of Saint Francis Of Assisi. An icon of New Mexico and one of the most significant artists of the 20th century, Georgia O’Keeffe’s stunning imagery lives on in the museum with her namesake. With works dating from 1901 to 1984, the museum’s collection comprises over 3,000 of O’Keeffe’s works from large-scale oil painting to sketchbook drawings. Open 7 days a week, a visit to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum is a must for any trip to Santa Fe. Go outdoors and explore the stunning landscape of the area! With more than 1,000 miles of hiking trails, the Santa Fe National Forest offers endless adventure. Or take a hike in the adjacent Bandelier National Monument, featuring dwellings of Ancestral Puebloans dating between 1150 and 1600 AD. Finally check out the KashaKatuwe Tent Rocks National Monument with stunning cone-shaped tent rock formations formed by volcanic eruptions.

Caitlin + Ben LA FONDA ON THE PLA Z A

After being set up by Caitlin’s parents on the Fourth of July, Caitlin and Ben immediately hit it off, and so they say the rest was history. Eight months later, the pair jetted off to Grand Cayman for Caitlin’s birthday. During a fancy dinner to celebrate the occasion, Caitlin unfortunately started to feel very sick. At first Ben suggested a walk in the fresh air, but Cailtin felt too nauseous to stand and insisted Ben simply talk to help take her mind off of it. Little did Caitlin know, Ben’s speech was about to change her life. He started by saying he got her an extra birthday present, pulled out the ring and proposed! Right after the proposal, Caitlin immediately started to feel better and jokes that diamonds are her magic medicine. Caitlin and Ben planned an elegant Southwest-inspired wedding for July 27th.

Christa + Justin p e c o s n at i o n a l h i s t o r i c pa r k

Christa and Justin met through mutual friends and dated for two years before getting engaged. During the summer, the pair jetted off for a European vacation traveling to multiple countries. Halfway through their trip, the couple was taking in everything Paris, France has to offer and enjoying countless macarons. One morning, right after waking up, Justin proposed to Christa in their bed in a simple but utterly romantic way. Christa and Justin planned an intimate, bohemian wedding for August 27th.

Allie + Matt engagement

real beginnings

Allie and Matt met when they moved in next door to each other in college. The pair soon became very good friends but didn’t start dating until over a year later. Building off their strong friendship, they knew this relationship was something very special.

THE PROPOSAL After five years of dating, Allie and Matt took a trip to Santa Barbara to soak up a little California sunshine. On one evening of the trip, the couple walked down to the beach to take in the sunset. With the sun shimmering across the ocean as it dipped below the horizon, Matt asked Allie to marry him, and she, of course, said, “Yes!” The pair are planning an early summer wedding at the Loretto Chapel and La Fonda on the Plaza.

el rancho de las golondrinas 334 Los Pinos Road, Santa Fe | 505 471 2261 | www.golondrinas.org

El Rancho de las Golondrinas (The Ranch of the Swallows) a historic rancho and now a living history museum, was strategically located on the Camino Real, the Royal Road that extended from Mexico City to Santa Fe. The ranch provided goods for trade and was a place where the caravans that plied the road would stop on their journey coming from or going to Santa Fe. It was a paraje, an official rest stop for travelers, and was even mentioned by the great military leader and governor, Don Juan Bautista de Anza, when he stopped here with his expeditionary force in 1780. El Rancho de las Golondrinas, located on 200 acres in a rural farming valley just south of Santa Fe, New Mexico, strives to maintain examples of life during the period when Spain ruled in the southwestern portion of the North and most of the Central American continent. The museum opened in 1972 and is dedicated to the history, heritage and culture of 18th and 19th century New Mexico. Original buildings on the site date from the early 1700s.

introducing

Q & A with

Manmade & Sage By: Erin Mitschele

What is your favorite part of the job? My favorite part of my job is getting to know my couple and tailoring their wedding to reflect their story, who they are individually and as a team. I like to know where they are from, how they met, what their hobbies are, individually and as a couple, what music they listen to, and their personal styles.

Where do you come up with your ideas? My ideas are sparked by my couples’ story and what they envision to be their dream day. That gets me started and then I start pulling ideas from all fields of the art and design world, rifling through endless images of fashion trends, interior spaces, paintings, installation art, and graphic design. Another significant source of my inspiration comes from the land I live in. I’m born and raised in New Mexico and I’m in love with it! I am ever in awe of its natural beauty, it’s history, it’s architecture, and of course its food!

What is one thing you wish you could educate your clients on? Most of my clients have never planned a wedding before and therefore really have little to no idea just how many hours go in to planning and designing every detail! If you want it done right, it takes time!

Who gives you the best advice? My husband! He is such a good listener and always offers rational, level headed advise.

What trend do you wish would dissappear? Poorly done welcome bags for guests! Nobody wants a myriad of things with you and your fiance’s names plastered on them, a water bottle, and a bag of Doritos! Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of having some sort of gift to welcome your guests but stick to unique, stick to local, and resist the urge to put your name on everything!

Favorite Wedding Season? Every season in New Mexico is beautiful in it’s own way but I would have to say fall is my favorite. The days are warm and the nights are cool, you start to smell the scent of pinon wood in the air from people burning fires at night. It’s green chile season! And there are so many things going on in the state which is great for people who are planning a destination wedding where where their guests will most likely want to stay a couple extra days.
