EDITOR’S LETTER
Being born and raised in Colorado, I found my love for the Rockies in a state that holds so many beautiful places. Through the years, I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many of the other states across the Rockies and have found a certain charm to all of them. Something about the fresh air blowing through the evergreens, or the sand blowing across the Southwest deserts, and the aqua blue lakes in the north, I couldn’t think of a better place to say “I do!” than the Rockies. As I begin to plan my own Rocky Mountain wedding using RMB, I find myself in awe of the talented local vendors in each pocket of the Rocky Mountain region. I hope that within these pages you will find all the inspiration and tips you need to make your day everything you want it to be. We’ve scouted the best of the best in your area to provide you trusted local vendors. Happy planning! xo visit page 16 to see more from brooke & matts wedding!

S E A S O N A L W E AT H E R When planning a wedding in Sun Valley, it’s important to take into account the weather during each season. Summers in Idaho are warm and dry, which makes June to August the best months to plan a wedding if you’re looking for warmer weather with less chance of precipitation. Winters in Idaho are snowy and not for those who are largely affected by the cold. If you’re looking to plan a winter wedding, take into account the average temperature for the winter months is 10°F. Don’t fret the cold temperatures, winter in Idaho is one of the most magical times to host a wedding.

W H AT T O P A C K Guiding guests on what to pack for your wedding can take a lot of the guesswork out of their decision. Feel free to add your wedding attire, whether it be cocktail casual or black-tie optional, to your wedding website. Here is also a great place to add little tidbits too, such as packing a shawl for the cooler months, sunglasses if you are having an outdoor summer ceremony, and reminding guests to drink plenty of water to avoid altitude sickness.
ACTIVITIES The perfect vacation spot for any season, Sun Valley has many spots for both winter and summer activities. Where over 200,000 acres await, head to the Sawtooth Wilderness Area for summer activities of swimming, fishing, mountain biking and white-water rafting. From winter skiing and sleigh rides to miles of hiking trails, Sun Valley Resort is the perfect vacation spot for any season. With some of the most unique restaurants in Idaho, Sun Valley is home to non-traditional eats and drinks. The rustic yet elegant dinner house, The Ram, has fed hungry travelers historical dishes like Hungarian goulash since it opened its doors in 1937. Wake up and alive at Java with a bowl of soul inspired by the owner’s Southern California roots. Java’s fresh-baked goods and free-trade coffee invite guests to sit back and enjoy the rock’n’roll atmosphere of the shop.

Make it official Your wedding license, while one of the most important pieces, should be the least of your worries on your wedding day. You can purchase a marriage license at any Idaho County Clerk’s office and must use the license within a year of purchase. Idaho does not require you to be a resident or have a blood test. You and your spouse-to-be must be in attendance when purchasing the $28 license.

Local Wedding Inspiration

Brooke + Matt ketchum
Matt moved to Idaho one summer for a construction project. A relative of his and a family friend of Brooke’s had a hunch that the two would hit it off. They met on a Saturday morning at the local farmers market and have been obsessed with each other ever since. Brooke and Matt love spending time together in the mountains. They fell in love while hiking, camping and adventuring outdoors any chance they had. One weekend in September, they planned a trip to Stanley, Idaho and snagged the last spot in the campground. As they hiked around, finding picturesque spots, they came to a beautiful meadow and decided to practice a secret handshake they made up earlier in the day. Matt ended the handshake only they knew by getting down on one knee. The proposal was perfect and they ended the night with a campfire dinner and champagne by the lake as the sun went down. They planned their late summer wedding for August 29th. sun valley wedding guide 2020 / rockymountainbride.com

MEANINGFUL VOWS
“Matt is a beautiful writer, so one of the most special things we did was create a part of our ceremony together. It was centered around our relationship with God and Matt wrote a beautiful piece explaining the symbolism and special meaning behind it. That piece made our ceremony even more personal and special to us.” - Brooke

Having a professional photographer on hand to capture the moment you say “yes” gives you a keepsake to cherish for a lifetime.
This is a great time to show off your partner as well as your new ring. Cheers, you have officially been upgraded to fiancé.
While the bling is the number one focus of a #ringselfie, the background view is also important. Try a few different angles to get the ultimate shine from your bling.
To cast those stunning prisms all around, you need bright direct light. Move your fingers back and forth to create these dashing rainbows.
Add a filter from VSCO or Instagram to brighten any shadows and keep the focus on your ring. Our favs are Lightroom, KiraKira+ and Instasize!

Mckenzie + Ryan s ta n l e y
Ryan and Mckenzie both grew up in Vale, Oregon. They attended the same high school and shared a lot of similar interests, but ran with different crowds. They then attended TVCC, Ryan pitched for the baseball team and Mckenzie played basketball. They saw each other at events and in passing, but he was still too cool for her, at least that’s how she tells it. The summer after they graduated from TVCC they both moved home and worked as lifeguards at the local swimming pool. She was the assistant manager and spent the majority of the time oiling up and shielding her eyes from Ry...the sun. Ryan spent his time on the stand consuming copious amounts of popsicles and applying SPF 100. Mckenzie had a special stash of my favorite blue popsicles, which she had to start labeling because she noticed them disappearing. Of course her number one suspect was Ryan. She’ll always maintain that she was raving mad about his thievery, but really she was thrilled at the opportunity to make a connection with him. He still denies that he stole her popsicles...and she’s still mad about it. After their first date the rest is history.

Winter Whites Emily Aitken Events used the tranquility of the quiet pale shades of winter as inspiration for the elopement styled shoot amidst the untraditional space of the Boho Lounge. The soft colors and lighting mirror overcast skies and powder dusted landscapes.
Tones of white and dried, windswept grasses add to the bohemian, laid back feel of the elopement. Each detail, planned with intention, is meant to instill peace and tranquility of the day.

Dakota + Dalton s ta n l e y
Dalton proposed while he and Dakota were out at the shooting range. The long story is back in 2017 he said he wanted to propose before the end of the summer. Dakota spent all summer doing her nails and waiting and waiting, but a proposal never came. She asked him and he said, “Oh I changed my mind,” then she said it was a huge dream of hers to go wedding dress shopping with her mom. He told me he would propose before she came to visit in April 2018. She waited again and it still didn’t happen. The day before her mom came to town, and he still hadn’t proposed. He noticed Dakota was a bit upset and asked if she wanted to go to the gun range and blow off some steam. She agreed and while they were shooting he pulled a ring out of his gun box. The first thing she said was,“I hate you,” all in all it was quite a rollercoaster ride.

Krista + Issac
real beginnings
Despite living a couple miles from each other growing up and knowing of each other, Isaac and Krista didn’t connect until the summer of 2015. She was a bridesmaid in a wedding and he came as a guest. They spent the night dancing, laughing and getting to know each other a little more. Although they had an instant connection, timing was not on their side. She left to go back to Illinois and he stayed in Bellevue to continue working on his family’s farm. Isaac and Krista remained friends and stayed connected for the next 3 years, seeing each other occasionally at the local 4th of July rodeo. The summer of 2018, they decided to give dating a shot. She always knew that Isaac was different and that their connection was unlike any other. They dated for 4 months until Krista packed her bags to move to Baseline, which was by far the best move she ever made!
real beginnings
On September 19, 2019, Isaac pulled off the best proposal of all time. He told Krista earlier that day he was going to fly his drone to mark out fields for some farming business. That evening they went over to his parents and stepped outside to watch him fly the drone. After a few minutes of flying he asked Krista to hold the iPad that was recording all the footage. She took a glance down and all she saw through surprised eyes was “Marry Me.” He had drawn “Marry Me” into the field and when she looked up he was on one knee saying “So, will you!?” It was hands down the best proposal...she’s biased of course.
