EDITOR’S LETTER

Being born and raised in Colorado, I found my love for the Rockies in a state that holds so many beautiful places. Through the years, I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many of the other states across the Rockies and have found a certain charm to all of them. Something about the fresh air blowing through the evergreens, or the sand blowing across the Southwest deserts, and the aqua blue lakes in the north, I couldn’t think of a better place to say “I do!” than the Rockies. As I begin to plan my own Rocky Mountain wedding using RMB, I find myself in awe of the talented local vendors in each pocket of the Rocky Mountain region. I hope that within these pages you will find all the inspiration and tips you need to make your day everything you want it to be. We’ve scouted the best of the best in your area to provide you trusted local vendors. Happy planning! visit page 17 to see more of jen & dan’s wedding!

T E LLU R I D E 1 0 1 Advice for a perfect Telluride trip featuring the weather and favorite spots of the area. Like all of Colorado, the weather can change in the blink of an eye. Planning ahead can make all of the difference for your guests and you.

preston utley

S E A S O N A L W E AT H E R Set in a box canyon surrounded by the San Juan Mountains and filled with historic charm of the past mining town, Telluride shines as an ideal wedding location in the Colorado Rockies. From June to September, the weather is warm and sunny, making it the most popular time of the year to tie the knot. If you are looking for that warm weather vibe and plenty of rays, July might be your best bet with average temps in the high 70s. On the other hand, if you are wanting a cozy ambiance to your day, look to January when the city is often blanketed with snow. For a more moody day, check out September. While there is a high chance of afternoon rain, storm clouds instantly add a dramatic feel, and they say rain on your wedding day is good luck, right?

W H AT T O P A C K Guiding guests on what to pack for your wedding can take a lot of the guesswork out of their decision. Feel free to add your wedding attire, whether it be cocktail casual or black-tie optional, to your wedding website. Here is also a great place to add little tidbits too, such as packing a shawl for the cooler months, sunglasses if you are having an outdoor summer ceremony, and reminding guests to drink plenty of water to avoid altitude sickness.

ACTIVITIES During the winter months, hit the slopes of Telluride Ski Resort. Ranging from the town of Telluride to Mountain Village, with more than 2,000 acres of terrain and 148 runs, Telluride Ski Resort is perfect for beginners to more advanced skiers and snowboarders. After a day on the mountain, warm up with apres ski snacks and sips on at one of the resort’s many on-site dining lodges and lounges. Stroll down downtown Telluride or ride the free gondola up to Mountain Village and pop into the many local boutiques, like Trappings & Toggery, Crossbow Leather and Telluride Naturals, to find unique fares and gifts. After a day of shopping, sit down at one of the many delicious restaurants in the town from a relaxed vibe at Brown Dog Pizza to fine dining at the Cosmopolitan and Chop House Restaurant. Get your heart pumping on one of the many stunning hikes in the area. Just a short distance outside of town, the Bridal Veil Falls Trail cannot be missed! This 4.8 mile out and back trail features sweeping views of the area along with a cascading waterfall. Bordering the east side of the ski resort, Bear Creek Trail is a popular 4.5 mile trail with an alpine lake and waterfall.

Local Wedding Inspiration

Jen + Dan MADELINE HOTEL

In a meeting that can only be described as fate, Jen and Dan met in St.Petersburg, Florida, while they were both there on vacation. Even though the two lived across the country from each other, Jen in Boston, Massachusetts and Dan in Colorado Springs, they couldn’t deny their instant connection. Seventy-two days after their chance meeting, Jen and Dan met up in Chicago and officially became a couple. A year and a half later and more than 1,137 hours of video chatting, Jen made the move to Colorado Springs to officially begin the next chapter of their lives together. A few months later, Dan planned the ultimate surprise proposal. While Jen was in Vegas for work over Valentine’s Day, Dan told her that his sister happened to be in town and had a special present for Jen from Dan. When Jen arrived at the Bellagio, Dan was there instead of his sister holding a rose. He proposed to Jen, and the pair celebrated with a romantic dinner together. Jen and Dan planned a modern minimalist wedding for October 12th.

WORD FOR WORD

“Our favorite moment was when we read the letters we wrote to each other in a beautiful aspen grove after our first look, and realizing that we ended our letters in the exact same way!”

UNITY KNOT

“Our faith is very important to us, so we decided to tie a unity knot as part of our ceremony. We had our officiant say some words about the relationship between God and Man and Wife, and we took turns braiding the strands together as a symbol of our commitment to bringing God into our marriage.”

ADVICE FROM THE BRIDE

“It’s so easy to get caught up in the stress and details of the big day, so if you find yourself getting overwhelmed, just reflect on what is most important - your love for one another and the lifelong journey you’re about to embark on!”

Taylor + Ross telluride ski resort

Taylor and Ross met while working for the same company, but in different divisions and in different cities. Taylor would often travel to Houston, where Ross was located, and he would fill their days with collaborative work to get to spend more time together. After three years of pursuit, Ross finally figured that Taylor wasn’t interested; however, a year later, Taylor saw that Ross was in Colorado skiing and invited him to dinner. The two met up at Sushi Den in Platt Park, and the rest is history! Being long distance, Ross struggled to pick a time that would truly be a surprise to propose. On a trip to Jekyll Island, Florida for another friend’s wedding, Ross surprised Taylor with a special dinner. As the host led them to the romantic room, Taylor was greeted by all her closest friends and family. She turned around to see Ross down on one knee! Taylor and Ross planned a mountaintop wedding for June 15th.

PURE MAGIC

“In the middle of our reception our AMAZING photographer Preston Utley took us both outside for sunset photos. Suddenly everything was still in the golden light. Preston just ‘let us be,’ and we were able to take a pause in the middle of the celebration and relish in the specialness of our day while the golden sun set behind the Telluride mountains. It was pure magic.”

WHY THE ROCKIES

“Taylor had lived in Colorado for roughly 8 years and, as an avid hiker, had fallen in love with the mountains in the summer months. Ross grew up visiting the Rockies on ski trips multiple times a year. We have now both grown to love the opposite season! When we were considering where to get married, the mountains were an obvious choice.”

Mallory + Josh engagement

Mallory and Josh had a serendipitous meeting when Josh started working at the same company as Mallory and even ended up being on her same team. Josh described Mallory as the most beautiful person he had ever seen and was immediately drawn to her. Over time, the pair became best friends, not just at work but after, talking all day. Josh knew in his heart that Mallory could be his forever person, and finally worked up the courage to ask her out. With a sweet smile and a little wrinkle of her nose, Mallory agreed, and they two have been together ever since!

real beginnings

THE PROPOSAL

On the way to their three year anniversary dinner in Keystone, Josh suggested they take a little detour to the Sapphire Point Overlook to soak in the scenery. While Mallory’s initial reaction was “heck no” due to being in a gown and heels, she agreed to the stop off. As they took in the vast beauty of the Rocky Mountains, Josh asked Mallory to spend the rest of their lives together, and she happily agreed! The surprise didn’t stop there, as both of their families popped out from behind the bushes to celebrate with the couple.

“I had a wonderful experience with Heather at HD Hair & Makeup. She did my hair for my wedding and she was able to work with my extensions and blend them in with my natural hair. I am pretty picky about my hair and I absolutely LOVED what Heather created! I showed her a photo of an idea I had and her creation well exceeded my expectations! She made sure that I was happy with everything she did which I appreciated. Heather is such a kind hearted person and made the whole experience a great one. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a creative, experienced, top notch stylist! My favorite thing about working with Boxcar Photography was that they were always flexible and suited their style to our personalities. I always joke that my husband and I are difficult because we are always laughing and not photogenic, but somehow they were able to make us look model-quality. Ben is a hilarious, stand up guy who sticks to his word. We also appreciated that the turnaround time for photos was short!”
