Situated in the northeastern Pacific Ocean, Vancouver Island is part of the Canadian province of British Columbia. It’s a year-round tourist destination, known for its beautiful beaches in the summer and vacation getaways in the winter. From hiking to camping, there are plenty of activities for those looking to fuel their adventurous side. Upon entering the island, you’ll be surrounded by beautiful lush green forests and oceanside villages. Vancouver Island is also known for its vibrant art community, there are several museums and local art galleries throughout the island. Population: 864,864 Vancouver Island is a world-class destination for whalewatching. Peak season is May through October. Home to ‘Della Falls’ the highest waterfall in Canada. It’s known to have the densest population of black bears with a population of 7,000! The island is home to some of the tallest and oldest spruce and cedar trees in the world. Calling all wine lovers, Vancouver Island is home to 37 licensed wineries.
HOW TO GET TH ERE Access to the island is only available by air or sea. The most common way to get to the island or bring a vehicle is by ferry. Or, you can book a direct flight into Victoria International airport, the island’s largest airport, for your wedding weekend.

ONE SNOWY EVENING
Jennifer and Tyler were introduced by a mutual friend one snowy evening. They were driving with a few friends to the mountains for a night of sledding when a connection between the two started growing. Jennifer and Tyler spent the next two years getting to know each other and growing their friendship before they officially began dating. Tyler planned a surprise proposal in Sooke, British Columbia at a treehouse Airbnb where local Vancouver Island photographer, Taylor of Breukers Creative, was waiting to capture the special moment between the two.

SWEET SURPRISES
This proposal was a total surprise for the future bride, Jen. The future groom, Tyler, had found out about a surprise trip Jen had planned for him and decided to turn around and surprise her with a proposal instead. Tyler and Taylor of Breukers Creative spent the few weeks leading up to the trip thinking of the perfect way to surprise Jen, and the weather threw a few wrenches into their plans, so Tyler said that they should just plan the proposal at the Airbnb where they were staying. Taylor showed up at the Airbnb pretending the host had asked her to get some new photos for social media, and Tyler made it so that they were heading out the door for some surprise plans that did not actually exist. Taylor asked them to pose in a few photos, having Jen face away from Tyler and give him a chance to fish the ring out of his pocket. Jen was in complete shock when she turned around. Alexandra + Joshua Alexandra and Joshua officially first met in kindergarten in Victoria, British Columbia; although neither of them remember this. Alexandra’s family moved to Calgary, Alberta shortly after, and they reconnected in Victoria at university. When she first met Joshua’s parents after just a few weeks of dating, his dad put the pieces together and brought their kindergarten class photo out of storage. They now have it framed in their living room. Joshua proposed on Mount Sparrowhawk near Canmore, Alberta. Alexandra thought they were out on a normal weekend hike in the Rockies, which they do a lot. In retrospect, it was strange he planned the hike because usually she’s the one making plans! They stopped for lunch at the top and when she asked him to take the hummus out of his bag, he whipped around with a ring box instead. It was the perfect proposal: relaxed, intimate and down to earth.

They wanted the relaxed, intimate and down to earth mood to translate to their August 1st wedding at Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse. These plans made it difficult to execute for Alexandra and Joshua because they ended up planning three different wedding options due to Covid restrictions. They ended up planning an intimate 10-person wedding. Sustainability and locally-sourced choices were of utmost importance to Alexandra and Joshua as they worked with local vendors to find their florals, catering and bridesmaids’ dresses. Alexandra and Joshua’s wedding day incorporated special family heirlooms and traditions so that their families felt included in the planning process. Alexandra wore her mother-in-law’s veil and hair comb that her sister-inlaw wore at her own wedding. These small symbols represented Alexandra officially entering into the family.

Christie + Jono Christie and Jono fell in love at university and dated for seven years before Jono proposed at their lakeside cabin. They were engaged for three years and had to continuously re-plan their wedding day due to Covid. Their wedding planning process was anything but smooth, including their previous wedding venue canceling on them two weeks before the wedding. Thankfully, Tammy of Blue Lily Event Planning helped them navigate through the continuously changing restrictions and made Christie and Jono’s wedding day come together seamlessly. Christie and Jono’s August 14th wedding day at Keating Farm included stories curated specifically by their family friend Michele for the ceremony and laughs and cries during their first dance. Jars of honey with personalized labels and wooden dippers from East Van Bees served as the guest party favours to end the perfect wedding day.

Elle + Nate It was pure serendipity that Elle and Nate first met at a wedding. Elle, who now has her own wedding planning business, was the MC for the same wedding that Nate happened to be the best man at. Nate asked her out on the dance floor and the two planned a 12 hour hike for their first date. They both knew pretty quickly into that date that they were falling for each other big time. Nate outdid himself with his proposal; so much so that Elle’s jaw was dropped the entire weekend. It started with driving into Deep Cove Vancouver to pick up his younger siblings, who they were going to take care of the entire weekend, or so Elle thought. Walking along the beach, awaiting their arrival, Nate grabbed her hand and led her underneath a massive tree overhanging the ocean, while sweet talking and telling her all of the things he loved about her most. He then got down on one knee and asked her to be his forever girl. They spent the evening exploring the Indian Arm by speedboat when Nate surprised Elle with a weekend trip to Whistler where they got massages, went skydiving and spent hours soaking up the newlyengaged glow.

SEASIDE MAGIC
Elle and Nate planned a late-summer wedding on August 21st with whimsical, elegant and bohemian elements. Their wedding planning process was full of highs and lows, but Elle being a self-proclaimed party queen, enjoyed the process immensely. They planned a wedding weekend with three events that included multiple outfit changes and chances for their closest friends and family to connect. The magic was evident throughout their wedding day on Pender Island with an intimate ceremony on a seaside cliff, forested field barbecue reception and beachside day-after brunch with their favourite people.

Sarah + Frank In 2018, on a cliff at the most northern tip of New Zealand, Sarah and Frank were engaged. It all started with an early morning hike, in total darkness equipped with headlamps and all. Frank knew how busy this local sight would be once the sun came around, so for them to have complete privacy, they laced up their boots, brushed the sleep out of their eyes, and headed into the blackness. They ended the hike as an engaged couple and began planning their fall elopement in Tofino, British Columbia.
UNDISCOVERED AND EXCITING
Their engagement was such an adventure in itself, so when it came to planning their wedding, Sarah and Frank knew they wanted the same feeling to carry through to the moment they said their vows. After what so many can relate to; the replanning, canceling, and unknown nature of 2020 and 2021, they finally decided that the West Coast of Canada had just as much beauty as any other country they could travel to. Neither Sarah or Frank had ever been to the West Coast, let alone the tiny surf town of Tofino, but they knew they wanted something undiscovered, something exciting, and something that would create a new “place” for them years to come. Their October wedding day was so perfect. It poured rain but they made the most of it with the help of their insanely talented and kind photographers Bec and Andrew, of Willow & Wolf, and were able to extend their wedding day to become a wedding weekend.

Garden Party Elopement English countryside elopement inspiration at Hatley Castle and the Government House Gardens

One of the most breathtaking castles on Vancouver Island, Hatley Castle, transports guests to the historic castles and structured gardens often found in the English countryside. Vendors from across Vancouver Island set out to create magic with an English-inspired styled elopement full of dramatic views and romantic textures at Hatley Castle and the Rose Garden at the Government House Gardens. Everygrey Photography’s modern and dramatic style spoke most authentically to the ethereal theme of the day. The English countryside was truly brought to life with the stationary and tablescape. Morgan Garnett used watercolours and hand-drawn country flowers to elegantly decorate the stationary, while also keeping the look simple and classic. The cake, made by July’s Girl Cake Co, was simple yet beautiful, with painterly strokes of blue on the sides and country flowers decorating the top and front. Old English love poetry books adorned the low-sitting rustic table decorated by En Vied Events with a colour palette of whites, blues and peach accents to keep the colour scheme light and playful.
Models, Nicole and Jeffrey, adorned handmade rings designed and created by Emma Glover to encapsulate the natural texture and hints of blue throughout the colour scheme. Marlee Clark, owner of Willow Hair Salon, created a garden-chic hairstyle for Nicole with Baby’sbreath woven throughout her elegant updo. Makeup artist, Alexandra Loughton, did a natural makeup look, focusing on beautiful, glowing skin and soft rosie lips and cheeks. The White Peony bridal boutique fitted our model in the Florence dress by Laudae, which is a stylish puff-sleeved dress with a low back, made of crepe and embroidered dot lace. The puff-sleeves were a must for this English-country inspired look. Rather than going for a traditional suit, Outlooks Menswear dressed Jeffrey in a linen blazer with mixed textures and muted tones to fit with the relaxed, garden setting.
