MAKE IT OFFICIAL In British Columbia, you can get your marriage licence within three months of your wedding date, at any marriage licence issuer or Service BC location only. Only one member of the couple is required to be present when applying for the marriage license, but they must apply in person and show proper identification for both parties. Examples of proper identification include: a birth certificate, IMM/ immigration form, permanent resident or citizenship card. A passport or driver’s license is only acceptable in some cases. Your licence will cost $100 USD or CAD, and is nonrefundable. You must have at least two witnesses at your ceremony, in addition to the commissioner or religious official. U.S. citizen? No problem! Kirsten + Nate Nate and Kirsten met five years ago and instantly clicked! They love to be active together and are non-stop exploring. Between mountain biking, riding motorcycles, water sports and skiing, they are in their happy place adventuring, exploring and hanging out together. They organized a trip to Tofino, British Columbia in May because Kirsten had never been and Nate loved his previous trips to the area. They had the most amazing first day whale watching, biking, sipping on margaritas and enjoying the sunshine. Nate planned to propose on a hike to a lookout over Cox Bay, but his plan was cut short by a much-needed nap after whale watching. After a few wrong turns, they made it up to the lookout. Before Kirsten knew it, Nate was making a joke about the lack of salt and pepper on his eggs that morning. He got down on one knee and pulled out the most beautiful salt and pepper diamond.

Rachel + Leighton Leighton and Rachel met at Trinity Western University where Leighton played soccer and Rachel played volleyball. They dated for four years before Leighton popped the question by planning a special day for Rachel. He took the day off of work and set up time for Rachel throughout the day to connect with her closest friends and family. Rachel ended the day at a brewery with her dad, brother and sister, when Leighton’s family picked Rachel up and helped her get ready for the proposal. They took her to Pitt Meadows, where Leighton was waiting with a special picnic and champagne. After a few deep breaths, he got down on one knee and asked Rachel to marry him. They celebrated the night away with champagne and friends. Their wedding at the Secret Garden incorporated clean, classic and lush elements. Due to the global pandemic, Rachel and Leighton’s wedding plans changed four different times. All of the stress and changed plans were worth it for Rachel when they looked out over the crowd after they said “I do,” and saw all of their closest friends and family cheering them on. Leighton and Rachel’s wedding day was filled with so much emotion and happy tears. Leighton’s favorite moment of the day was the private first look shared between the two. They were both so grateful to share their thanks to everyone who supported them throughout their wedding planning journey and danced the night away.

Asia + Liam Asia and Liam met during their undergraduate degrees at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. They first met during Liam’s orientation week and started dating a year later. Very early in their relationship, Asia booked a trip to east to explore Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail. Asia had full intentions of going alone, but something compelled her to invite Liam. He dropped everything to come with her. They spent three days staying up late, getting to know each other better and going for long hikes. They both fell in love on that weekend trip. Skip forward to the summer of 2019, after graduating and moving to Vancouver, Liam asked Asia to go on a hike together, they chose St. Mark’s Summit. Liam found a quiet look-off point and they ended up being the only two people there, Liam got down on one knee and their proposal was quiet, intimate and simply perfect. Asia and Laim planned a wedding with both east and west coast elements. Their wedding day was so special to them that it was hard to choose one favorite moment of the day, but they both loved their ceremony. Walking by their parents and seeing all of their favourite people gathered in one place was incredibly meaningful. Their ceremony felt so intimate and allowed them to feel deeply connected to each other.

Michele + William Michele and William met through a mutual friend when they headed to the same music festival out of town. Soon after their initial meeting, they started a friendship that went on for almost a year before they finally dated. Five years later, Will planned a romantic proposal at Queen Elizabeth Park. He made brunch reservations and asked Michele to walk through the park with him to a specific spot he had picked out previously with a photographer. When the photographer texted him saying that the spot was currently occupied,Will instead popped the question at a bridge in the park. Their wedding planner, Lisa of Shing Weddings, made their wedding planning experience wonderful. She was attentive, answered any questions they had and helped them reschedule their wedding plans when Covid-19 hit. Michele and William’s wedding day was romantic and botanical with a sprinkle of bohemian. They incorporated Chinese cultural traditions of door games and a Chinese tea ceremony.

Michele and William’s ceremony was personally tailored to them thanks to their officiant, Christian. A sweet moment shared between Michele, William and her father was when he handed her off to William and gave them advice and a blessing. This moment stood out as extra special to them both because her father is a man of few words.

CITY ROMANCE Intimate wedding inspiration at Pipeshop Venue

Local wedding planning team Elyse & Co. wanted to create a styled wedding that challenged the norm and created something unique. Their initial vision was to take an industrial shipyard building and transform it into a whimsical, romantic and colourful space that was fit for a dreamy, incredibly romantic and intimate wedding, which led them to the Pipe Shop Venue. The day of the shoot, they filled Pipe Shop Venue with hundreds of candles, colourful decor pieces and fresh garden inspired florals to turn their vision into a reality. The large windows overlooking the shipyards and the ports, the wooden beams and the cement flooring allowed them to emphasize the natural, unique, and industrial aspects of this beautiful venue while the incredible work done by their team of vendors allowed them to take the space and transform it into something entirely different from what it typically is. Models, Angelica and Travis, brought their admirable and playful love for one another into this shoot and helped showcase how special a wedding day can be even with it just being you, your partner and your closet friends and family. In addition to seeing how special and romantic a small and intimate wedding day can be, this showcases what feels like an entirely new style of wedding: a blend of industrialism, moodiness, whimsy, romance, and colour.

Ethereal Beachside Picnic Elopement inspiration among the waves

Chuunice Photography wanted to create a romantic, dreamy and ethereal beachside picnic elopement and did so with the backdrop of the west coast mountains and the crashing of the ocean waves on Spanish Banks. The vendor team imagined a simple and romantic ceremony by the sea. They showcased natural glam makeup with soft curled hair, which complimented the veil and the flower crown. The light blush gown, by Hannah Tikkanen, with subtle floral embellishments, lace-up bustier, and flowing sleeves topped with a stunning cathedral veil full of floral appliqués completed the bride’s look. They chose pastel florals from Leis de Buds for both a bridal bouquet and flower crown. They created a luxury picnic set up for a casual dining experience.
