PUBLISHER’S NOTE
Dearest Reader, Thank you for picking up this issue of Rocky Mountain Bride! This is our fifth volume of our regional issue and with each we attempt to show you an amazing glimpse into our region and all the beauty that it holds. The Rockies are where all of us at RMB call home and the saying is ever so true; home is where the heart is. Our hearts and love of what we do pours onto these pages. The pride we feel showcasing the incredible talents of the wedding creatives, which not only dream up but deliver such remarkable inspiration for us to publish or those who worked tirelessly to ensure the real weddings were not only a success but a beautiful representation of the couples and the love they share, is a true honor. We love what we do and even more so love that LOVE is what has brought you to pick up this copy. Congrats on finding the one who makes your heart beat with such immensity that your souls are able to unite as one and you can’t imagine being without each other. We are excited for you to plan your day! Whether your desire is to be just the two of you in the middle of no where or surrounded by all of your friends and family in a downtown ballroom, we invite you to find your perfect beginning with us, here in the Rockies! In making a wedding magazine, one has a tendency to look back on their own wedding day more often than most. I remember lots of little things, my husband tearing up at the altar as we said our vows, walking into our reception and everyone standing and showering us with love as we started into our first dance, and walking out to take sunset photos and finding that it allowed us to take a moment to just be. They are memories that bring me back and make me smile. I wish for you a multitude of sweet memories and many happy years of reminiscing about them! Best wishes,
Erika 8

cover story
While Chrissie and Spencer went to elementary school together, they didn’t reconnect until high school, where their friendship flourished into a relationship. Eight years later, Spencer knew he couldn’t propose in an elaborate way or on a trip because Chrissie would immediately be suspicious. One cold evening, Spencer asked Chrissie if she wanted to take their dogs for a walk. Thinking nothing of it, she bundled up and headed out with him. As they watched their dogs frolic and play, Chrissie sensed that Spencer was no longer standing next to her. As she turned, she found him down on one knee asking her to be his wife, and she immediately said, “Yes!” The pair planned a relaxed and emotional elopement for July 25th.

ADVICE FROM THE BRIDE
“Throughout the entire process, always remember what the true meaning of a wedding is all about. Always come back to that and don’t let the details cause too much stress. This is you and your significant other’s special day so be true to both of your wants, your personalities and your vision.”

the anatomy of the invitation suite photos by grace gatto photography
From the clean crisp envelope to the swirling calligraphy or bold letterpress letters, there is something beautiful about wedding invitations. Invitations are the first glimpse into your wedding that your guests will see. Whether you are planning a lavish affair or an intimate gathering, your invite can speak to your theme, color palette and location. The stationery, calligraphy and paper details collide together to create a seamless design for your wedding. With all the different pieces and rules for invitation suites, we are breaking down invitation etiquette to put any of your invitation woes to rest!

RSVP please Count three weeks out prior to your big day, and this should be the cut off for RSVPs. Make sure this date is clearly marked on your RSVP cards to ensure guests reply on time. Your RSVP card is also where you can let guests pick their entree if you are having a planned meal. To ensure you receive your RSVPs back, help guests by including postage for the RSVP envelope. The invitation suite by Colorado designer, Beautifully Noted, is printed on blush hand torn paper featuring a traditional wedding invitation along with a light sage RVSP card and return envelope. (above)
perfect timing It is best to send your save the date anywhere from nine months to a year in advance of your nuptials. It is important to give your guests time to plan and book accommodations, especially if many of your guests are coming from out of town. Six to eight weeks before your I dos, follow up with your formal invitation, which will give guests more details about your big day! In the reception details by Wyoming designer, Bird + Buffalo, find a menu card, signature cocktails sign and table number featuring hand-drawn images special to the couple. (page left)

25
darling details There are many details to consider including along with your formal invitation. A must for any invitation is a way for guests to RSVP. Another common component is a details card, which can contain accommodation information, dress code and link to your wedding website. Other options include: itinerary for the weekend, welcome dinner invite and a small map of the area. The custom invitation suite by Montana designer, Bon Temps Collective, includes a formal invitation, welcome dinner invite, details card, hand-drawn map and RSVP card with meal selection.
26
rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride regional volume v
modern wording Whether you are paying for the wedding yourself or you simply want to take a more modern approach, many couples are opting to use wording to invite guests straight from the couple rather than specifically the parents of the bride or groom. The whimsical and colorful invitation suite by Idaho designer, Mango Ink and Crimson Calligraphy, includes a modern invitation, details card, reception schedule and RSVP card.
rocky mountain bride regional volume v / rockymountainbride.com
27
wedding website A wedding website is a great place to direct guests for more information on your big day. You can include your wedding website on your save the date or detail card. From sharing your love story to featuring your bridal party, a wedding website allows you more space for information than can’t fit on your paper invite. You can also put where you are registered on your wedding website. The creamy peach letterpress invitation suite by New Mexico designer, Letterpress Made, features a traditional invitation, welcome dinner invite, details card and RSVP with meal choice.
28
rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride regional volume v
best dressed From black tie to cocktail attire, letting guests know how to dress can relieve a lot of stress on picking out an outfit. No one wants to come overdressed or underdressed to your big day! If you are planning an elegant, upscale affair, then black tie or black tie optional might be the best fit. If you are having a more laid-back or rustic wedding, then casual cocktail or cocktail attire would work. The color-blocking invitation suite by Utah designer, Twelve30 Creative, features a modern invitation, details card and floral envelope liner. Pressed leather details tie in from the reception invitation to the escort cards, while the details card lets guests know what to wear.
rocky mountain bride regional volume v / rockymountainbride.com
29
addressing your invites Addressing the envelope might be one of the trickiest parts of the invitation. Here are some standard rules to follow: for a married couple, write “Mr. and Mrs. James Denver.” If you are inviting two unmarried guests, you will write out both of their full names. If you are giving a friend a plus one, you will address their name then add “and guest.” The floral invite on hand-torn paper by British Columbia designer, Maurelle, includes a modern invitation, RSVP and outer envelope addressed in white calligraphy script and a wax seal.
30
rockymountainbride.com / rocky mountain bride regional volume v
postage rules A big thing to note: most wedding invites will require more than one stamp. Since wedding invites typically include many pieces of paper, it can tip the scales to be too heavy. Also additional adornments such as ribbons and wax seals add weight. To avoid returned invites, be sure to go to your post office and have your full invite weighed and attach the right amount of postage! The classic ivory invitation with vellum overlay by Alberta designer, Debbie Wong, contains a vintage photograph envelope liner, modern invitation, RSVP and RSVP envelope.

Lindsey + Andy s t e a m b o at s p r i n g s , c o l o r a d o
While Lindsey and Andy knew of each other through mutual friends, they didn’t officially meet until Andy’s best friend introduced them at a bar. Fate had another plan for this couple and shortly thereafter, they ended up working at the same ranch just north of Steamboat Springs. They discovered an instant connection, and so, as they say: the rest is history.

Four years later, back in Steamboat Springs, Andy planned a snowy hiking excursion with Lindsey, his brother and his brother’s girlfriend. Near the end of the hike, Andy pulled Lindsey into a clearing, dropped to one knee in the snow and asked Lindsey to be his forever, and she excitedly said, “Yes!” The best part - the whole thing was captured on camera! Lindsey and Andy planned a rustic ranch wedding for September 15th.

Taking inspiration from French salons of the 17th century, discover The Ramble, a boutique hotel located in the River North Art District in Denver, Colorado. The inviting space welcomes you in with rich colors of deep purple, fuchsia and emerald green paired with bold blacks and whites. western heritage
Nestled amongst Idaho’s snowcapped Rocky Mountain peaks and the meandering Salmon River, the Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch has flourished as a western retreat. Built in 1930, the lodge and each cabin has been artfully renovated celebrating the true beauty of Idaho with stylish accommodations. Step outside your cabin and take in the fresh mountain air as you prepare for your nuptials. Taking inspiration from the iconic Pendleton blanket of the Pacific Northwest, Sprout Design pulled together Western pieces in warm tones of rust, mustard and burgundy for this classic country wedding shoot.

Christopher + Seth b o z e m a n , m o n ta n a
Christopher and Seth met through a mutual friend at drinks before attending a documentary film. Seth had been crushing on Christopher, and this meet-up provided the perfect opportunity for the pair to finally meet in person. There was an instant connection that deepened into true love and three years later, Seth planned the most perfect surprise proposal during a charity fundraiser, which Christopher was dancing in. After Christopher finished his performance, one-by-one people they hold dear started to walk down the aisle with white flowers in hand. After forming a semi-circle around Christopher, Seth made their entrance towards their love. After the sweetest words, a bunch of laughs and a few tears later, Seth got to one knee and asked Christopher to be their forever partner, which Christopher excitedly agreed! The duo planned a retro, urban-industrial wedding for June 22nd.

BIG SKY CONNECTION
“Seth and I are both from Montana. We met and fell in love in Montana, and the Rocky Mountains are our home. Also, Montana is ridiculously beautiful. We didn’t even consider getting married somewhere else – it was important to us to have friends and family gather in the place so important to our individual and connected histories.” - Christopher

FILLED WITH LOVE “It’s really hard to pick a favorite, because we really loved every moment. One that sticks out is sitting at dinner, and looking out to see all of our favorite people laughing, drinking, and getting to know one another. We spent so much time planning every detail – including the seating chart – and it was really special to see the space filled with so much life and love.”

ADVICE FROM THE COUPLE
“We continually reminded ourselves to enjoy the process. When things got stressful during the planning process – which happened often – we took some time to reflect on the joy of getting to plan our dream wedding.”

Natalie + Chris s a n ta f e , n e w m e x i c o
While Natalie and Chris both attended college at TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, the pair didn’t start dating until after graduation. Three years later, Chris knew Natalie was his forever, but wanted to make sure the proposal was a secret. He concocted a plan for Natalie to go with him on a “work trip” to San Francisco, California. After landing, the pair drove to Napa to enjoy a little of wine country. At Inglenook Vineyard, Chris professed his love of Natalie and asked her to be his wife, which she happily said, “Yes!” As a further surprise, Natalie’s family and Chris’s parents joined the newly engaged couple in Napa to celebrate, and Chris revealed there was never a work trip! Kate + Jack pa r k c i t y , u ta h
Kate and Jack met in what today might seem like an uncommon way - a blind date! Despite living in different cities, the two commuted between Vail and Aspen before Kate made the move to Aspen. Years later, they again packed their bags and headed north to their new home in Salt Lake City, Utah. During a trip to the Outer Banks in North Carolina with Kate’s family, Jack planned the perfect intimate proposal. On the second day of the trip, the pair headed out to The Whalehead Club to watch the sun set. As they walked down the dock, Jack began telling Kate how he felt and that he wanted her to be his wife. Kate immediately said, “Yes!,” and the pair celebrated with champagne and cheers with Kate’s family! Kate and Jack planned an ethereal, bohemian wedding for October 6th.

“Have someone you know be the officiant, include your dog in the wedding, write your own vows, and don’t worry about the weather. Don’t stress about the details because it’s just about two people expressing how they feel and committing to each other.”

Ashley + Mitch jackson, wyoming
After two and a half years of dating, Mitch knew he wanted to make Ashley his wife. On a trip to his hometown of Orange, Australia, Mitch mentioned needing to do a little farm work before heading to a winery for sunset drinks. While Ashley wasn’t too excited about the prospect of doing manual labor in a sundress and white sneakers, she was still happy to help! After tagging old logs and other things at the farm, Mitch said they could be done if Ashley tagged just one more log. Ashley sprinted down to tag the log and ran back, but Mitch insisted she re-tag it in the middle. Begrudgingly she went back to the log, and that is when she spotted the words “Marry me, Ash?” etched into the log. As she turned around, Mitch was down on one knee asking her to be his wife, and Ashley of course said, “Yes!” The pair planned a Western glam wedding for July 6th.

Kaley + Cole anniversary brunch
Years ago, Cole did a nationwide search on match.com, and Kaley came back as his 100% match! Just two weeks after picking up the phone and talking for the first time, Cole flew from New Mexico cross-country to Seattle, Washington to meet Kaley. The pair immediately hit it off and felt the instant connection. Kaley and Cole shared a love of the country and horseback riding. During a ride, Cole pulled his horse next to Kaley’s and proposed right there on horseback! Now, nearly five years later after their I dos, the duo re-professed their love for each other at an anniversary brunch in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Christina and Danial met while working at a restaurant after high school. Over the course of the next decade, their instant attraction only grew and created the foundation for forever. While others constantly asked and anticipated a proposal, the couple was in no rush to get married. On a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Italy, Christina and Danial spent a relaxing day at the beach in Positano before picking up a bottle of Rosé and heading back to their Airbnb. Sitting on the front steps with a glass of wine in hand, Danial suddenly muttered, “There is no perfect time,” got down on one knee and asked straight to the point, “Will you marry me?” A surprised Christina happily said, “Yes!” Christina and Danial planned a magical, minimalistic forest wedding for July 26th.

Dione + Alex victoria, british columbia
Eight years ago, Dione and Alex met at the Calgary Stampede. Four years later, they went on their first date, and after another four years they got engaged on Alex’s birthday! Dione planned to take Alex for a birthday breakfast, but Alex insisted they have breakfast in bed instead. As Alex entered the room with two coffees, Dione immediately felt something strange was going on. Their song “Into the Mystic” by Van Morrison was softly playing from Alex’s phone, and their dog Yoko was left out in the hall. When Dione started to raise questions, Alex opened the door and in walked Yoko with a blue ribbon and stunning ring tied around her neck. After Alex popped the question, he had one more surprise in store - a trip to New York City to celebrate their engagement! Dione and Alex planned a romantic, Tuscan-inspired wedding for June 28th.

“When you grow up and get married a lot of responsibilities fall on your plate, and the amount and importance of responsibilities never gets smaller or easier. It’s important to choose early on that in every stage of your relationship you make time to have fun with each other. As we have grown together over the years, we still make it a priority to plan little road trips, overnighters, and fun holiday traditions where we can laugh and create memories together. We make a big deal out of the little things, and those moments have been our favorites throughout our years together.”
