Vendor Q & A Virginia, Vibrant Events As a Planner, what new trends are you seeing immerge in Wyoming Weddings? Elopement Style Weddings – big, bold, and lavish events personalized for the Bride and Groom and their close friends and family. Couple’s get the best of both worlds; all the bells and whistles of a big wedding extravaganza, yet still intimate with only your nearest and dearest.

Margaret, Elevated Ballooning Where did the inspiration come from to create a hot air balloon wedding? Ballooning is one of the most romantic things out there. You are witnessing the Wyoming landscape at its most ethereal – sunrise and sunset. Being on a Hot Air Balloon and experiencing this is a special occasion on its own, so to add in weddings seemed like a natural transition!

Ali, Persephone Bakery What was the inspiration behind the cake? More brides are bringing new, creative ideas to us that connect the natural beauty of Wyoming with modern styles. The cake was an ode to the sky you see in the Hot Air Balloon. The 2-layer cake was inspired by the clouds, and incorporating all the textures and colors you see up there! The macaroon ombre pattern ties together the modern circle aesthetics with the fluffy and soft clouds. Once cut, the cake was layered with the colors of the rainbow that tied in the Hot Air Balloon!

Sam, MTN Media What makes Wyoming different than other destination wedding states? Wyoming is the best combination of refined elegance and an authentic western flavor that makes for beautiful and unique events. People can get the best of both worlds! The natural beauty in Wyoming can’t be beatwhat better backdrop than the Tetons!

Sarah, Guild The Lily Too What is the “New West” to you? The “New West” is a movement of more personal weddings. People are starting to build relationships with vendors, and these vendors are local business owners who genuinely care about creating a unique and memorable event. We grow all the floral we can in-house for weddings, so brides can watch their flowers grow and know it was done specially for them. Where foods have had the farm-to-table movement, we are a part of the farm-to-altar movement!

Courtney, The Silver Bungalow Where did the inspiration come from to create the silver bungalow? I love the old and rustic and I try to surround myself around things like that. The Silver Bungalow fits in perfectly! I wanted to create a space for Brides where they could be comfortable and relaxed, and the environment the Bungalow creates does just that! It allows you to enjoy a beautiful outdoor Wedding, with all the comforts of home.

Wyoming alum’s, Samie and Glen were married on July 20th, 2013, at St. Alban’s Chapel in the Snowy Range Mountains. These two are tried and true Cowboy’s, and couldn’t think of a better place to party the night away than the Wildcatter Club at the War Memorial Stadium! rockymountainbride.com

the proposal: Glen was extremely nervous. He planned to do it over the weekend while golfing, but couldn’t wait and proposed in the living room, as they were packing!

the first date: For their first date, they drove down to Denver and went to a Colorado Rockies game.

the colors: The colors used were pastel pinks, greens, yellows, and cream.

the flowers:

They chose green and

white hydrangea’s, and pink roses, that blended with their soft, summer color palette.

the dress

Samie wore a sweetheart

neckline, fit-and-flair gown with a fun ruffle detail from Wtoo.

the food: Samie and Glen served an American-inspired buffet, filled with their favorite comfort foods. Guest enjoyed roasted turkey and savory stuffing, a roast beef carving station, and everyone’s favorite... mac and cheese.

the first dance: The couple danced to Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson, “Don’t You Want To Stay”.

the unexpected: Samie told rmb the story that a month before the wedding, the flower girl decided to cut her own hair ... into a mullet! By wedding day, thankfully, it had become a cute pixie style.

21

Color Board:

three words: The three adjectives Samie and Glen used to describe their wedding day were, "Summer-fun, and Romantic".

the honeymoon: The two jetted away to Las Vegas! the advice: "Plan as much as you can, but always prepare for the unexpected, and just roll with it! Have fun at your wedding, and remember it as much as possible. Take a few minutes for just yourself, and your groom to be together!"

etsy things Who doesn't look at etsy for an idea or two? Well, we are kind of addicted. This season, here are some of the new favorites we found. Enjoy, and tell etsy we sent you!

dry it Want something really special to give to dad on your big day. There is nothing better than a personalized item to help dry his eyes as he walks you down the aisle. There are lots of color and embroidery options. If saved it can be passed down from generation to generation and just add the new date at the bottom.

remember it Keep your loved ones that have passed close to you on your wedding day with picture jewelry that can be attached to your bouquet. This unique locket can be found on etsy, but use a family heirloom with a picture of your loved ones. Any florist would be honored to secure it into your bouquet.

stamp it Need a gift for your favorite couple? Want to get something small and personal for your groom or bride? These new address stamps are the perfect gift. They are small enough to carry and package, but the statement is huge. Brides and grooms are sending tons of thank you notes and sharing their new address with all their friends, so having a personalized stamp will make their household feel new. There are so many styles to choose from that one can really fit the newly weds personality. 24

professional profile Blush Bridal & Formalwear is a chic, elegant bridal boutique located in downtown Casper! Each bride is pampered like a princess in their luxurious, classic, and unhurried atmosphere. The Boutique is “by appointment”, so each bride gets the undivided attention she deserves! The ladies at Blush believe that choosing a wedding gown should be the BEST experience ever.

What inspired you to open Blush Bridal? Casper really needed another bridal gown store that would carry top designer names. There are only two other stores in Casper!

What trends are you seeing in dresses for 2014? The top five trends I am seeing are: short skirts, dramatic backs, appliqués on gowns, peplums, capes and wraps.

What is your shop’s style? We are a very chic, glamorous boutique. We carry gowns in a wide range of styles and fabrics, perfect for any bride!

How do you decide which lines you want to carry? We researched stores close to our area in Colorado and Montana, saw the lines they were carrying, and narrowed our selection down based on those lines. Price point was also a factor.

What is the most rewarding part about having a bridal shop? The most rewarding part is seeing how excited the bride is when she truly falls in love with a gown!

What was the greatest lesson you have learned for finding the perfect dress? Try as many gowns on as possible!

What are the current dress trends you are seeing in Blush Bridal? A lot of lace! Combining lace and tulle gowns has been a very popular style in Blush!

What sets you apart from the other dress shops in Wyoming? We carry high-end couture gowns and accessories.

What do you think is the perfect dress for a rocky mountain bride? Any dress SHE loves! I think it totally depends on the location and style of the wedding, but if she feels good in the gown… that is the one! rockymountainbride.com

What makes a Mountain man a Mountain man? Is it their likeliness to have facial hair and a scruffy do, or the constant smell of campfire that lingers with them around town? We are here to help. We wanted to show you that your Mountain Man can remain himself but impress the rest with his sharp style, good look with just a little help from our friends. And remember, a little goes a long way. Jackson Hole, a mountain town nestled in Teton County, 8,647 feet above sea level, Rocky Mountain Bride was on a journey to bring a new view to the local “mountain man.” Jeff Annetts, professional skier, avid base jumper, was chosen as the Wyoming Mountain Man contest winner. Jeff is a Jackson, Wyoming local, business owner, and outdoor extremist pushing it to the limits as you can see from the sky dive in to meet us. First stop, the Whiskey Barber, a local spot and a must for men. A sign on the front door read, “no women allowed”(they let me in), the perimeter of the salon was lined with the local clients own personal whiskey bottles. A few sips of whiskey later, Jeff has a fresh cut, smooth shave and is ready for the next stop on this journey. We wandered through Wyoming Outfitters, a high end, beautiful, country western style-clothing store. The duds chosen were cowboy-meets-city-boy, keeping Jeff in his comfort zone, but pushing the limits a little. After a quick fitting, we were off to the Four Seasons Hotel in Jackson Hole to capture the perfect images of the transformation of our mountain man. Rocky Mountain Bride was thrilled to watch Jeff transform into sharp, sophisticated man and we think he enjoyed it as well.

The transformation was photographed by Hannah Hardaway, local photographer. rockymountainbride.com

Boutonniere: The Manly Way

Lockie Photography, Floral: Labellum

Why should a man wear a flower on his lapel, especially when he is likely to be the only fellow sporting one? I’ll give you three reasons: 1. It’s a great conversation starter – I guarantee someone will ask about it; the key is to be confident as to why you are wearing it. If a compliment is given, simply say thank you, and then move on with the conversation unless your conversation partner(s) wishes to dwell on it. Nothing sours a conversation more than a man who displays arrogance and who talks about himself too

much – the flower in your lapel should be like a spark….a conversation starter, not the subject of the conversation. 2. You have something to give – How many times have you spent a wonderful evening with a woman you just met, and at the end of the night the only thing you can give her is your business card? Try leaving her with something a bit more unique and memorable. Or perhaps you want to make your aunt’s 70th birthday even more special – there are few things nicer to receive than a sincere showing of love accompanied by a flower. 3. It shows you pay attention to details – When wearing a boutonniere, it’s about realizing and showing that the little things matter.

How to Choose the Flower for Your Jacket’s Lapel First the flower should fit the occasion – simple white or red blooms for formal occasions, while for less formal occasions more colorful and exotic flowers are fine. Second, the boutonniere should be coordinated with the clothing you are wearing. If in doubt, a simple white bloom, like a white pocket square, is always a safe bet. And speaking of pocket squares, you are permitted to wear a boutonniere with a pocket square, although a boutonniere by itself can stand in for a pocket square. The rule here is balance; avoid too much of a good thing by muting down the color of your square or wearing a white pocket handkerchief. The final factor in selecting a boutonniere flower is how long you plan on wearing it – many flowers will wilt after a few hours in the heat and without water, so if you are looking for something that will last all day in the West Texas heat consider consulting a florist.

The Carnation Boutonniere – Simple, affordable, easy to find; of all the flowers a man can choose for his boutonniere, the carnation is perhaps the most versatile and easiest to pull off. White is always acceptable, although it is best suited to more formal occasions. Red is a close second, and can bring a dash of color to a black tie outfit or dress up a sport jacket and jeans. I personally prefer miniature carnations; however, a normal bloom that hasn’t fully opened works well. The only downside to a carnation is that it will begin to droop after a day of wearing, so wear it fresh or if for a long day consider having it professionally prepared by a florist. The Rose Boutonniere – About as easy to find as carnations, roses are more complicated to wear as they are substantially larger and must be free from imperfections. To the general public, they are considered the most formal flower, and they are perfect choices when celebrating love at either a wedding or

anniversary. Rose boutonnieres look best when they are professionally prepared as then they can be permanently tilted and even hydrated with a tiny water stop. If you head down this route ensure your jacket lapel can support the weight. Other Flower Options – Gardenia, Lily of the Valley, Sweet William, Orchids, Hyacinths, Daisies, and Lilacs are all excellent choices. You may have to special order these, but the reward is that you’ll have a unique and beautiful companion. Remember that flowers have meanings and that these meanings change across cultures. Carnations are one of the most common boutonniere flowers in the United States, are the national flower of Spain, and show respect in Korea. In France however, carnations are a common funeral flower and considered unlucky outside of this setting. Source: The Art Of Manliness, "How to Wear a Boutonnière. artofmanliness.com

1. We’ve Got all the Time in the World Let me guess, you’re either working full-time, going to school or doing both. As much as you want to be involved in every little piece of your wedding planning, you just don’t have the time. Trust me. If you can only make calls on your lunch break and send emails when your

We are a wedding design and planning team based in Laramie. We travel Wyoming, Colorado, and Texas to plan memorable weddings for our brides. Our favorite things are: flowers, sequins, and dessert. We love working with brides because of the lasting relationships we build throughout the planning process. We’ve been planning and designing weddings for six years. employer’s firewall is temporarily down, it’ll take you forever to get decisions made. A wedding planner’s sole job is to prioritize your to-do list, and make it happen. We may have other brides to work with, but aside from that, we’ve got plenty of time to get things done for you. You need someone who can track down errant vendors, run to the post office seven times, and spend hours on DIY projects. Hiring a planner doesn’t mean you have to relinquish all control. It simply gives you a go-to person to take on all the things you haven’t got time for.

2. Your Family and Friends Deserve to Relax Of course your Aunt Betsy and your bridesmaids want to help. They love you, and want to see you happy. But here’s the thing—they’re travelling to be with you. They’re likely buying a new outfit, and have spent money on a gift for you and your intended (maybe even multiple if they’ve attended showers). They’re paying for a hotel for two or more nights, and have put up with you being a little more than demanding for the last three months. They deserve a break. Allowing your family and friends to truly enjoy the day with you should be part of your gift to them. If you have a planner on your side, they’ll take care of all the dirty

Why We Love Eclectic Mix & Match

by: Embellish Productions We can’t even say how thrilled we are that wedding “themes” are falling by the wayside. A wedding should be about nothing more than the two of you. Don’t spend all your time trying to make everything the perfect shade of green or somehow relate to Asian Pears. It just isn’t worth it. And it isn’t you. Instead, decide what you think is pretty. What do you find

Lori Kennedy Photography

yourself drawn to when you look at magazines or pictures? What things are representative of the two of you as a couple? What color combinations make you feel the happiest? Identify these things and implement them throughout your wedding. Recently we’ve worked with several brides who have chosen not to have a designated motif, and their weddings have been all the better for it. Everything from their shoes to the ceremony were perfectly representative of them, and all of the elements clicked together because they were chosen with love in mind. A super easy way to do this is on your tables. Choose a mixture of romantic, contemporary, and classic elements. For this gorgeous reception table, we collected romantic blooms, modern sequined table cloths, and traditional gold and brass hardware. Everything flows together based on common elements like color and feel, but there’s nothing themed about the look. You can easily achieve this look by searching local flea markets, antique stores, garage sales, and adding in family heirlooms. Each piece will be unique, but your look will remain pleasing to the eye as long as you make choices that you find yourself smitten with. If you love how things look together, chances are that everyone else will too. If you want to take it a step further you can consider mixing and matching other things like glassware, utensils, candlesticks, and even china. We worked with an amazingly eclectic bride a few summers ago who made cloth napkins for each guest out of varying fabric prints. Your wedding should be a reflection of you and the things that make you swoon. If you’re happy with the combinations you come up with, I promise you’ll end up with a look you’ll love. And if you get stuck trying to make it happen, you can always consult your planner!

5 Ways To Mix Up Your Wedding

by: Embellish Productions 1. Choose Music That Suits You DJs are generally pretty good at gauging a crowd. They can tell when people are into the music, evidenced by grandma dancing to Akon, and when to switch the song. But that doesn’t mean you have to leave your whole night in their hands. You know your guests better than anyone, and if you think all they’ll want to hear is songs from the 80s, than go for it. If you’d rather trip on your dress than hear the Chicken Dance or the Hokey Pokey, stick to your guns. Choose songs

Marj Merges

that take you back in time, and remind you of your greatest times. You’re paying for a service, so don’t be afraid to speak up about what you want.

2. Buck the “traditional” timeline Yes, most people choose to have a ceremony, followed by a cocktail hour, then dinner, then dancing, then cake, then more dancing, but no one says you have to do it that way. Have your cocktail hour beforehand if you want—get guests in the mood for love with a sip of bubbly as soon as they arrive. If you feel like dancing before you eat, then do it! I’m a dessert freak, and if I had it to do all over again, we’d have dessert at the cocktail hour. Keep it light, make it fun, and don’t worry about what everyone else does. Your big day is about you, and your guests will be just as happy to eat a late night snack as they would to have cheese and crackers before dinner.

3. Eat what you love Speaking of eating… your wedding is one time that you shouldn’t be eating bland banquet food. Do you love barbeque? Did you have your first date over tacos? If you and your hubby share a mutually unhealthy love for spaghetti, then

fiancé love karaoke? This is the biggest party you’ll ever have, so hire a DJ with a

your guests with a meal they’ll be excited to eat. I promise no one will be asking where the rubbery green beans are.

5. Combine Various Styles

4. Leave Room for Activities

I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t define my style in one or two words. I like a little bit of everything. And if you’re that way too, your wedding should reflect that

Dave Hansen Whitewater and Scenic River Trips has been the pioneer of whitewater rafting in the Jackson Hole area, dating back to the 1960’s. Dave even named two of the biggest rapids on The Snake River – The Lunch Counter and Big Kahuna!

They offer a wide variety of trips and adventures for all ages and levels. Their White Water Rafting section is 8 miles long in Snake River Canyon, and is the most popular trip by far for all the wedding groups! It’s beginner friendly with a class II and III rapids. It is a pool and drop river, where you hit whitewater and then float down a calm river till you hit the next whitewater – so basically, if 6 year olds can raft these waters, then anyone can!

We asked Bud Chatham, Owner of Dave Hansen’s, what he thought was the “unique” factor for a Bride and Groom to plan a whitewater rafting trip:

“We always provide a very personal experience for all of our trips and try to go above and beyond for wedding groups. We have special outfits for the bride and groom to wear that are either cowboy or whitewater themed. We print out banners, and decorate the raft for the bride and groom, and take a big group picture of everyone at the beginning of the trip for the wedding album. If you jump into the river, you become a member of our Snake River Swim Team and get a blue bracelet. Bull riders - people who sit on the very

The Ranch features a stately 38,000-square foot lodge, a luxury spa, a finely appointed collection of cabins suites & residences, lodge rooms, and a plentitude of authentic outdoor adventures in every season, including unparallel Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing. With unique, allinclusive format, all lodging, food, premium beverages, and a wide assortment of activities are all included in your stay. Bringing my family was the best thing I could have done to 'test' the experience one would have at an event on this property. We were shown to our rooms for the night and invited to the Saloon where all the adults had sat down outside for some live music that evening. We didn't realize we were in for the time of our lives! The next morning at breakfast (which was at a banquet table in the main lodge with made-to-order service) we were greeted by the owners, and my kids were greeted by "kid wranglers" asking them what they wanted to do that day. The staff already knew each of our names and the activity list was displayed for each of us to sign up for any myriad of things. Truly amazing! The activities varied from shooting, riding horses, yoga, biking, hiking, fishing, live music (only the top performers will do like Martina McBride), to indoor recreation complete with simulated golf, rock climbing wall and a full basketball court. At that point we realized that this Ranch left no stone unturned when it came to rolling up your sleeves and diving right in. In spending the day touring the amenities, we knew why this Ranch rockymountainbride.com

Stay: The Alexandra Resort We arrived at Alexandra Resort, a lovely and moderately priced resort after only a 15-minute ride from the airport and this is where the amazing experience bega. Located on acclaimed Grace Bay Beach, which is home to some of the most luxurious and awe inspiring ocean views you will ever experience, we were met with both amazing service and amenities to make your stay match that special occasion. We settled in to the all-suites four-star environment, where every room has a view of the ocean, we started to explore the possibilities. First stop, the beach. With complimentary amenities such as non-motorized watersports and beach attendant services for both food and beverage, we began our stay by wandering onto the picturesque scene and enjoyed amazing service and food from an island favorite restaurant, Mango Reef, that just happens to be located within the resort. The ocean looked like a picture of perfection with blue skies and even bluer water; white sand beaches and a temperature that was a steady 88 degrees. The sun was shining, and the staff with smiling as we took in what can only be described as a hidden paradise. After our lunch, and a taste of another island staple - Rum Punch - we ventured out to see what other things this island paradise resort had to offer. Pedal bikes, an exercise room, tennis courts, a large swimming pool and even a game of dodge ball on the perfectly manicured grass where just a sampling of what we found available. Concierge service, a weekly guest cocktail party, maid service twice a day (now we all know why on your honeymoon this would be a good thing), in-room coffee and tea, and shuttle service available to town or to the grocery store made the options seem endless. I have not even begun to talk about the exciting stuff‌ An onsite relaxing spa, fishing or snorkeling excursions with onsite reservation desk, or even parasailing, makes this the perfect place to spend time celebrating this special time together. Over the next couple of days, we got to experience many things, but the one thing at this resort that stood out was the exceptional service. Whether we were experiencing food at the resort restaurant or just interacting with staff during the day, they just seemed to make our stay that much better. How could everything be this perfect? I have no idea, but they made it seem easy, as they made our experience one we will never forget.
