Oh, Wyoming! What a year it’s been. You see, we’re a pretty small team over here at Rocky Mountain Bride. We all like to wear a lot of hats (figuratively and literally). Starting this year, I have the privilege of wearing our Wyoming hat and let me tell you, I had BIG boots to fill. As a Montana native, the square state has always been a neighbor to me - a place to learn, grow and explore. A place that seemed light years away while it’s a meer 27 miles to the border from my hometown. There was something exhilarating crossing the state line as a child, and I’m happy to say the thrill is still there! Wyoming is bursting with authenticity and pride. I’m so grateful I was reminded of that over this past year. The late night drives across the border from Cody after a day of creating content and friendships to a sunny Saturday exploring Wyoming Whiskey in Kirby. Wyoming has it all. The love stories featured in this magazine exude Wyoming and for that, we are proud. From an elopement in the Tetons to an anniversary session in Daniel - love here never has to end. I hope you find the inspiration within this magazine to help you plan your celebration, big or small - I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Tip Your Hat Introducing Sing Hat Company Since 2018, Christy Sing has been making custom, hand-crafted hats in Jackson. The idea of the hat company came to Christy completely out of the clear blue, and she just knew it was what she was meant to do! Growing up in the Ozarks of Arkansas in the 70s and 80s, Christy’s family was involved in ranching and rodeos. This past experience along with inspiration from old Western films and photography inspires Christy during her design process.

Heirloom Piece Each one of Christy’s hats are custom made for a perfect fit. Once your hat is measured, Christy starts with a large piece of raw beaver or a beaver/rabbit blend felted fur, which is then steamed and fitted to a wooden hat block. Next the brim is flattened with a press, and the whole thing is sanded until it is velvet smooth. The hat is then shaped according to your choice, trimmed and finished with a silk liner. A hat makes a fun accessory to any engagement session or wedding day look, along with being an heirloom piece to enjoy for years to come!

There are certainly dry spells in creativity similar to writer’s block, but I’ve found that if I just wake up and put my hands to the work, the process itself inspires the art.

WHISKEY BUSINESS Say howdy to Wyoming Whiskey! Coming from a long line of ranchers, the Mead family has been local to Wyoming since 1890. The current generation of Meads, Kate and Brad, added whiskey makers to the family’s list of regional contributions when they founded Wyoming Whiskey, along with David DeFazio, in 2006 and produced their first batch in 2012. Located in the Big Horn Basin, Wyoming Whiskey is an independent distillery crafting small batch and single barrel bourbon whiskey along with Outryder, similar to a rye whiskey.

Aged to Perfection
All of Wyoming Whiskey’s spirits are aged for a minimum of five years in their unique Wyoming setting. The state’s climate ranges from frigid temperatures in the winter to high-80s and low 90s throughout the summer. These drastic swings in temperatures cause the charred oak barrels to breathe in and out allowing the bourbon whiskey to be better infused with the rich, earthy flavors. This time true process gives Wyoming Whiskey’s bourbon a super smooth finish superb for sipping on its own or in a craft cocktail. Featuring a local spirit in your big day’s signature cocktail, like a Wyoming Mule, is the perfect way to tie another aspect of Wyoming into your wedding!

Makayla + Rowan / Cheyenne
Makayla and Rowan met on a 5th grade school trip to the Teton Mountains. While Makayla was immediately smitten, Rowan was too busy exploring the outdoors to notice her. Years later, the two ran into each other again their senior year of high school. Makayla recognized her elementary crush, and Rowan noticed the sweet, nice girl. The two struck up a conversation and have been together ever since! Five and a half years later, Makayla, her family and Rowan planned a fishing trip to Curt Gowdy State Park, and Rowan knew this was the right time to propose. The morning of the fishing trip, he scouted out the perfect location and decorated the spot with twinkle lights and enlisted a few friends to hide and take pictures. After a day of fishing, Rowan suggested the pair go on a sunset hike. Rowan led Makayla to his previously scouted spot and asked Makayla to marry him, and she happily replied, “Yes!

Sarah + Nick / Jackson While both Sarah and Nick moved to Jackson in the fall of 2007, it would be many years later when their paths would officially cross. At a mutual friend’s wedding in Vermont, Sarah became curious about the guy with two first names, Nick, and after a year of friendship the two started dating. Sarah is a very observant person, and Nick knew he would have to go above and beyond to ensure the proposal was a surprise. On a regular day, the two set off on bikes for a picnic along a local river with their elderly dog. There was a moment of crazy weather that led to Sarah and Nick taking cover under their towels, but other than that the afternoon didn’t seem out of the ordinary. On the way back to their bikes, Nick suddenly dropped everything he was holding, got down on one knee - even though he was in a knee brace due to a recent injury - and asked Sarah to marry him! Sarah reflexively also bent down and through jumbled words said, Yes!”

Trends & Tablescapes Rentals big and small can make a huge impact on your wedding day. Utilizing shades of pink as a consistent floral color, Cara Rank of xowyo paper & events and Sami Volcansek of Magnolia Ranch created six completely different reception tablescapes. While pink is often associated with being feminine, the team showcases how pink can lend itself to a wide variety of settings from masculine to modern and timeless to preppy.

Rustic yet Refined Light brown textured linens topped with Bennet Mango Wood chargers, rosemary Heath Ceramics plates, and blue and white plaid napkins create a casual look for a rustic yet refined wedding. Masculine elements of raw wood and copper metal are juxtaposed with the feminine florals in blush pink and white in rectangular barn wood boxes along with bundles of miniature chamomile daisies popping out of tin cans.

Summery Hues Tensions of masculine & feminine find a fun balance with this look. Fresh fruit adds an unexpected organic element paired with rustic, masculine antlers. Large scale geometric table linen contrasts watercolor floral napkins with petite floral arrangements including Party Peach Dahlias, Pink Sherbet Scabiosa, sandy pink Sahara roses, and blush garden roses are perfectly the opposite in color and texture to the vintage rusted urns with scabiosa pods clustered together. This same tension is continued with the tabletop; lacy cream chargers made in Italy, act as support for the handsome Heath ceramic plates and bone handled flatware, with pink blown glass tumblers from Spain paired with horn tumblers.

Modern & Marble Bold black accents from the wooden acacia chargers to the matte metal candelabra and ribbed ceramic vases to the black & gold Cutipol Goa flatware gives this setting a modern feel. The table is finished with marble plates and vibrant floral arrangements of coral roses, hot pink spray roses and white anemones with stunning black centers resting on a classic toile tablecloth.

True Wyoming Give your wedding a true Wyoming touch with a rich velvet linen from La Tavola in Fern and topped with white wash acacia chargers, black & white floral china made in Italy, but looks perfectly at home on a ranch. Pewter candlesticks with taper candles in tones of gray/greens bring height and drama to the table, while fluffy ruffled peonies in shades of pink with blush dinner plate dahlias add a cheerful component along with bud vases full of interesting garden foliages.

Timeless Neutrals
White will never go out of style for weddings. Take the timeless classic and give it a fresh look with textured appliquĂŠ floral tablecloth paired with handmade Lustre dinner & salad plates, hand painted chargers from Paris and brushed gold flatware. Sahara roses, Cozy Cottage garden roses, white sweet peas on the vine (complete with delicate tendrils!) and butterfly ranunculus, give the table a subtle hint of color while still staying in the neutral palette.

Something Blue From cobalt blue wine goblets and water glasses to floral-patterned, custom dinner plates from Italy and sky blue striped napkins, why not make your “something blue part of your decor? Florals in a range of pinks from barely blush dinner plate dahlias to bright pink peonies, soft Sahara roses, creamy lisianthus add complementary colors to the preppy tablescape.

Lauren + Justin b i g h o r n m o u n ta i n s
Lauren and Justin met while working at a pediatric trauma center in Orlando, Florida. One day, Justin was working tirelessly over a little girl and a few hours later she woke up and told Lauren, “I liked him, you should get him some candy and a coke because he worked really hard today.” Being a good healthcare worker, Lauren happily obliged the little girl’s request, and the rest is history! After almost seven years together, Justin proposed in the couple’s home with just the two of them! Lauren and Justin eloped in the Bighorn Mountains on May 17th.

ECO-CONSCIOUS ELOPEMENT
“We are extremely mindful when it comes to making eco-conscious decisions. We wanted to prove we could do it and achieve the least amount of waste possible. My wedding dress and groom’s outfit were things that we already had in our closet. My engagement ring is an ethically and sustainably-sourced sapphire, my flowers were essentially florist scraps and my photographer brought over some greenery from her garden.”

PURE MAGIC “Sounds cliché, but the entire day was pure magic. Eloping was always in the plans, and Covid-19 helped when explaining this to our families, but my favorite part was it was simple, stress-free and met all of our wishes.”

ADVICE FROM THE BRIDE
“Remember weddings are for family and elopements are for the couple. Elopements are an art and you have the ability to go to far off places that wedding guests could never get to. Explore your options and do what only will bring a smile to you and your partner’s heart.”
Katelyn + Bru worland
Katelyn and Bru grew up in the same small town of Worland, Wyoming. The two were each other’s first kiss in the 6th grade, and the pair officially started dating when they were juniors in high school. Eight years later, Katelyn and Bru were back home in Worland celebrating Christmas with their families. During the trip, Bru took Katelyn to the park where they shared their first kiss all those years ago. In the exact spot of that first special moment together, Bru got down on one knee and proposed! Katelyn and Bru planned a country wedding celebration for July 20th.

WHY WYOMING?
“Bru and I were both born and raised in Wyoming. Wyoming is our home, and we love this beautiful state. At this point, I don’t ever see us moving out of Wyoming. We chose to get married in Worland, Wyoming because that is where we both grew up, both of our families still live there, and over half of our guests were from there.”

Aliena + Adam JACKSON
Aliena and Adam met at summer camp in California. Aliena grew up attending the summer camp and was now a camp counselor, while Adam was on a work visa from England working at the same camp. After three years of dating, Adam surprised Aliena with a trip to Iceland. On their way to a remote Airbnb from Reykjavik, they took a wrong turn and ended up on a stunning two-hour detour of the country. Since it was so beautiful, Aliena and Adam jumped out of the car a few times to snap some photos. At one point, Adam said, “I think this is it, and proposed! He had been waiting for the spot that felt right to ask Aliena to marry him. Aliena and Adam planned an elegant ranch wedding for August 17th.

“We wanted the weekend to be full of unique activities and food only found in Jackson, so we planned a 3-day itinerary for our guests and made sure even the menu served at the wedding was all locally sourced. We took a group of 90 people to a Chuckwagon dinner and a show, and nearly 45 people white water rafting down the Snake River. We really wanted it to be a memorable trip to a place many never would have gone otherwise - the best part was most of our guests said they wanted to come back for a reunion!

Genevieve + Christopher clark
Genevieve and Christopher ran in the same social circles in Seattle and always had an ease to their interactions and conversations. One evening, Christopher stopped by Genevieve’s place, and Genevieve instantly felt him fill up her space with thoughtful emotion. Over the next eight months, the two became close friends before officially starting to date. On one of the final nice evenings of the summer, Genevieve and Christopher strolled into a garden on Queen Anne Hill in Seattle before sitting down on a bench that held many memories for the couple. There, Christopher presented Genevieve with three rings, one for the sun, one for the moon, and one to hold fast. The pair cried happy tears together before wandering off to find something bubbly to celebrate! Genevieve and Christopher planned a simple, natural wedding for September 1st.

SPECIAL SENTIMENT
“My dad, Gerhard, passed away about 2.5 years before the wedding. When we were trying to figure out a way to honor and have him there with us, Christopher came up with a beautiful idea. ‘Oh Babe’ is a book of poetry designed by Christopher containing excerpts from my dad’s journals. When I would read the journals, I say the lines I loved the most out loud. I started collecting them, and they became the book we gave to everyone at our wedding.”

SIMPLE MOMENT “There was a moment, as we walked up to the place where we would say our vows. I saw nearly every face that I loved in the world beaming back at me with joy. It is a simple moment. But it is one of the best of my life. I will never forget how that sun felt on my face. - Christopher

ADVICE FROM THE BRIDE
“There is so much anticipation in a wedding for it to be an absolutely perfect day, but of course there will be parts that won’t go the way you planned. A few weeks before the wedding I chose the word ‘lighthearted’ as a mantra, trying to let anything go that didn’t fall into the definition of that word.”

Emily + Aaron g r a n d t e t o n n at i o n a l pa r k
Emily and Aaron met through mutual friends while living in Oklahoma. On the couple’s one year anniversary, Aaron sent Emily a video he made containing all of their best memories from the past year. At the end of the video, there was a slide saying that someone would be coming over to do Emily’s hair and makeup and to relax and enjoy the day. Once Emily was done being pampered, Aaron came and picked her up, and they drove three hours to a helicopter hangar where a pilot and photographer was waiting for them. Emily and Aaron went for a scenic helicopter tour of western Oklahoma before landing on a bluff overlooking the Salt River. At the edge of the bluff, Aaron got down on one knee and asked Emily to marry him, and she, of course, said, “Yes!” Emily and Aaron eloped in Grand Teton National Park on September 9th.

Annie + Hunter jackson
Annie and Hunter met in middle school and became best friends. The pair went their separate ways for college, but the time apart made them realize there was more to their friendship. After six years of dating, Annie and Hunter went for a trip to Acadia National Park in Maine with their pup, Violet. One morning, the trio awoke at 2 a.m. to hike Cadillac Mountain to see the sunrise. Right before they reached the summit, Hunter asked Annie to marry him, and she happily agreed! They spent their first day as an engaged couple hiking back down the mountain, rock climbing on the coast and indulging in some lobster rolls. Annie and Hunter planned an intimate national park wedding for October 5th.

Tyffani + Colemun b u f fa l o
Tyffani and Colemun met while out on the town after the Sheridan WYO Rodeo. Colemun immediately caught Tyffani’s eye, and he ended up asking her to dance later in the evening. Instead of exchanging numbers, Colemun left it up to fate that if the pair ran into each other again then maybe something was meant to be. The very next night, Tyffani and Colemun ran into each other, and the rest is history! Just seven months later as Tyffani was getting ready for an event, Colemun walked up behind her and got down on one knee to propose! Tyffani and Colemun planned a country glam wedding for October 6th.

WESTERN-INSPIRED WEDDING
After receiving an overwhelming response from guests to attend their big day, Tyffani and Colemun ended up moving their wedding to a stunning field owned by the bride and her mother to accommodate all their loved ones. The rolling hills in the background and the rugged land was the perfect setting for the Western-inspired wedding touches from the groom’s cowboy hat and boots to the bridesmaids champagne dresses.

P E R S O N A L & I N T I M AT E “My brother drove me and the girls to the ceremony in his wagon pulled by his horses, which was pretty special. Colemun’s dad married us, which made the ceremony so personal and intimate. It was getting pretty emotional until I couldn’t get the ring on Colemun’s finger and his dad said, ‘Just spit on it.’ The entire tent belted out laughing and that definitely made it feel like a Wyoming wedding.”

ADVICE FROM THE BRIDE
“As a bride, I wanted so many things to be perfect, but the most important detail in the planning process ended up being my photographer and videographer. A large portion of my budget went to these two because at the end of the day that is the primary source of documentation that you will have to look back on all the years of your life.

A LWAYS
Sydney + J.W. Sydney and J.W. met when they were just kids since their families were friends. Throughout the years, the two would bump into each other at different things before attending the same high school and eventually the same university. After a chance run-in in Laramie, the two reconnected and went on their first date a week later. During a trip to Denver, Colorado, Sydney just knew J.W. was going to propose since he had already bought the ring. The weekend came and went without a proposal. On their way home, Sydney confronted him and asked, “Are you not proposing?” In response, J.W. pulled out the ring and stated, “Since you are so impatient, you don’t get to see this ring,” before hiding it away again. Two weeks later when Sydney was home sick with the flu, J.W. came over to comfort her. When she opened the door, J.W. was down on one knee proposing! Sydney and J.W. celebrated five years of marriage with a stunning anniversary session in the plains of Wyoming.

ADVICE TO COUPLES “Don’t focus on trying to change the hard parts about each other, instead inspire change by being the best version of yourself.”
WHY WYOMING? “We both were born and raised in Wyoming so it always will feel like home. I love the mountains and wide open spaces. It’s comforting to have that small town feel - the feeling that everyone knows everybody.”

Having a professional photographer on hand to capture the moment you say “yes” gives you a keepsake to cherish for a lifetime.
This is a great time to show off your partner as well as your new ring. Cheers, you have officially been upgraded to fiancé.
While the bling is the number one focus of a #ringselfie, the background view is also important. Try a few different angles to get the ultimate shine from your bling.
To cast those stunning prisms all around, you need bright direct light. Move your fingers back and forth to create these dashing rainbows.
Add a filter from VSCO or Instagram to brighten any shadows and keep the focus on your ring. Our favs are Lightroom, KiraKira+ and Instasize!
