Paul Cézanne 1839-1906 Paul Cézanne was born on 19 January 1839 in Aix-en-Provence, he was the son of a small bankers. Unfortunately his late artistic recognition made him financially dependent on his father, who wished he completed a law degree.

His paintings are almost exclusively landscapes, still lifes and everyday scenes. He was referred to as the “Father of Modernism”.

His earlier works are still influenced by romanticism and realism, later he preferred the impressionism.

The first exhibition of his paintings was done in 1895 in a Paris gallery. This was followed by another, and his paintings were highly traded. His health continued to deteriorate and he avoided more and more to the public. Finally, he died on 22 October 1906 alone in his studio in Aix-en-Provence.
