The urban transition of Turkistan includes the planning of urban interventions in two districts of the city, Old City with UNESCO heritage of Hazret Sultan and New City as a future region center.
Considering the severe bioclimatic conditions of the region, the most important part of the transformation strategy should be the regeneration of natural ecosystems and the further sustainable development of the city in balance with nature.
Local semi-arid climate and the consequences of the ecological disaster of the Aral Sea together with global climate change firmly affected the ecological situation in Turkistan region. Nevertheless, the city has the prerequisites for restoring the appearance of the oasis city, which it has been since its inception.
