COLLECTION OF WORKS RON C. ADRIANO 2015
My name is Ron and I am a second year student at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture. My passion for design drives my interest in architecture as well as my interests in drawing, carpentry, photography, and barbering. Outside of design, I express myself though dramatic arts and music and have an appreciation and interest in history. Through my exploration of ideas and concepts, I find it difficult to leave any stone unturned. I enjoy testing my limits with every challenge I encounter - often by exploring many different approaches and testing different solutions. I strongly believe in the importance of hard work and dedicate myself to finding a solution until one is found. This collection of works exhibits some of the challenges I have explored during my time in and out of architecture school.

ACADEMIC WORK
TREE HOUSE 156 Westmount Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, Canada 1B Design Studio D. Mckay
As communities grow and adapt to contemporary life, many aspects of the traditional library have changed. In this digital age, the popularity of e-readers is rapidly gaining popularity, leaving the impression that printed reading material, along with the traditional library, is falling out of favor. Despite this, the essence of a library remains the same – it is a necessary hub of knowledge and resources, accessible to all within the community. With this essence in mind, Tree House, a combination between a library and workshop, addresses the need for there to be a center for self-motivated learning, whether it is through silent study, group discussion, or doing. Treehouse provides all three types of learning with a space which is quiet and separated, shared and open, and accommodating to mentorship and trial and error, respectively. This library provides a place where one can seamlessly transition from reading, conversing, and crafting a certain project.

RECYCLONE In Collaboration with E. Oh SSEF Competition
Often viewed as a tedious or strenuous activity, recycling has lost public interest. However, the recycling of steel is necessary in the preservation of resources and is present in our daily lives. The recent closing of numerous big box stores have left behind large plots of land and mass amounts of steel. ReCyclone, makes use of old train tracks and steel from defunct big box stores to create a rollercoaster in the suburban landscape. The rollercoaster itself is composed of numerous basic parts and connections which create intricacy from simplicity. The project takes advantage of the land left behind by big box stores while revitalizing the community and bringing the use of recycled steel to the attention of its riders and all people that encounter it.

JUNK
In Collaboration with E. Oh, S. Meem, CJ Yang, & G. Kiernan 1B Design Studio D. Mckay
Junk seeks to reinvigorate a residual space in Cambridge, Ontario by taking advantage of its position within the surrounding buildings. The project consists of four buildings surrounding a shared court accessible to the entire community. Each building has a flat brick faรงade that faces outwards to the rest of the town, drawing influence from the materiality of its surrounding buildings, and a rolling wood clad faรงade which faces inwards to the shared court. The court, nestled at the center of the buildings, takes advantage of its position and provides a sanctuary of sorts. It is free from the sound generated from traffic on the main roads on the east and west side of the site and the change in materiality visually changes the character of the space. The buildings create, within and around themselves, an inviting environment for people to take up residence and spend time.

MAKER’S SPACE 1A Design Studio Rick Andrighetti
The Maker’s Space, located along the Grand River in Cambridge, Ontario is a project designed to house a “maker” for a short period of time. The maker’s residence combines a work space, living space, and an outdoor multi-functional space in one building. It is dug into the side of a berm, allowing a view to the river on the West side only from the private quarters of the maker on the second floor. The three spaces expand radially outward from most private to most public – most private being the second floor, the most public being located on the ground floor outside the main enclosure in the outdoor work space. However, through the use of sliding walls, inspired by Japanese shoji, the maker can permit the bleeding of one type of space into another – making the entire building private or making all but the second level public. Each maker can mould their space to their will - opening it to others or enclosing themselves within.
