The band on the bus go round and round. Nerve Centre, an unsigned Birmingham band, played a gig on the city’s famous number 11 bus route to mark the eleventh day of the eleventh month, 2011. Nerve Centre boarded the 11A bus at Reservoir Road in Stockland Green, Erdington at approximately 11.30am, and played for almost two hours, disembarking at 1.45pm at the bus stop at which they had earlier boarded. They were accompanied by two Police Community Support Officers from West Midlands Police for the duration of their journey. Nerve Centre got the idea for the gig after seeing calendars of the 11C bus route on the internet. This made them look further into the history of the route where they found a website where people get on the 11 on the eleventh day of the eleventh month for a full circuit, and decided to incorporate a gig into this experience. Nerve Centre formed in Birmingham in October 2007, and comprise Ronan Fitzgerald on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, James Foster on lead guitar and backing vocals, Jon Kelway on drums, and Arjun Patel on bass. They are releasing their latest EP, Swear at People on the Internet on 4th December 2011. Lead singer, Ronan Fitzgerald said: “I sometimes get the 11 to and from work, so it was nice to see beyond my normal stops. Playing on a bus was a new experience, but we like gigs in unusual places. We’ve played on the roof of GateCrasher Birmingham, and in a basketball court in Erdington with Wheatus, and James has played a solo acoustic set at a pigeon loft in Digbeth”. ENDS
