Mr. Adell, First, congratulations on a tremendous enhancement and expansion of The Word Network. Your humility and elevation of 'others' is a testament to such, to God Be The Glory. Secondly, there is a new dialogue before the body of Christ. This dialogue references the African American and economic equality. In a recent article published in Huffington Post, The Wealth Gap Widens Between Whites and Minorities, the wealth of white households was reported to be 13 times greater than that of black households in 2013 and 10 times that of Hispanic households. Such despair is buffeted by the country's political divide and joblessness. As a pastor of 40 years and an adjunct professor at two HBCUs, I personally see the growing pain and despair within both communities and the country http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/12/12/racial-wealth-gap_n_6317202.html I along with others are increasing to posit new economic attitude helps, developing preaching and teaching forums and settings to reach families, using social media, radio and TV to fill the air waves with the message of changing our vices and values. I've included a copy of one of my books, Breaking Free From Financial Bondage that I will be using throughout this year for your perusal. Equally, on Friday Jan. 16, I and leaders of my congregation began the process of acquiring the first CBN TV Facility in Portsmouth, VA {recently released by Tribune Media} and expanding our Radio Ministry (www.HotJoyRadio.com) as we will be using these airwaves as a redemptive witness for spiritual/economic turnaround. We want to use every front to facilitate a new day for many in our community. Here is part of the message we will be carrying: Poor in greek is pto-khos’ and emphasizes distressed and straitened circumstances. Who are the poor today? The US Census Bureau recently reported that the poverty rate — the percentage of people living in poverty is at its highest level since 1997, from 12.5 % in 2007 to 14.5% today. About 45.3 million Americans are living in poverty, up from 37.3 million in 2007. 

In 2013, the official poverty rate was 14.5 percent, down from 15.0 percent in 2012. This was the first decrease in the poverty rate since 2006.

In 2013, there were 45.3 million people in poverty. For the third consecutive year, the number of people in poverty at the national level was not statistically different from the previous year’s estimate. The 2013 poverty rate was 2.0 percentage points higher than in 2007, the year before the most recent recession. The poverty rate for children under 18 fell from 21.8 percent in 2012 to 19.9 percent in 2013. 1 The poverty rate for people aged 18 to 64 was 13.6 percent, while the rate for people aged 65 and older was 9.5 percent. Neither of these poverty rates were statistically different from their 2012 estimates. Both the poverty rate and the number in poverty decreased for Hispanics in 2013. Despite the decline in the national poverty rate, the 2013 regional poverty rates were not statistically different from the 2012 rates.

The government defines poverty as earning an annual income of $22,025 for a family of four, $17,163 for a family of three and $14,051 for a family of two. Out of a U.S. population of (app.) 309,162,581 and 45.3 million Americans living in poverty, this computes to 1 out of every 2.2 persons in America are living in poverty. Consequences of poverty are highlighted in our communities: (Based on Luke 4:18 as Jesus outlines His ministry and that of His Church today) broken hearted families, economic captives, futures have been blinded by community devastations, our plans have been bruised and many are suffering through the wraps of hopelessness. What must be our strategy for relief? I suggest a multi-faceted strategy in my book and we have taken full advantage of Revd. Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH 1000 Churches Connected: Financial Literacy for the Faith Community ~ Debt and Consumer Education, Home Ownership, Investment Basics & Insurance Education, as well as Technology As A Resource. These are pivotal rails upon which the train of progress for our nation can run. Entrepreneurialship was an axiom of the New Testament Church, Acts 2:45; 4:34,35; 5:5-11, and it must be an economic elevator today. We have created a 12 Month Curriculum and will be offering Continuing Education Units through The Samuel Dewitt Procter School of Theology of Virginia Union University. We wish to celebrate a new wholeness in our families. The Nielsen Company has produced a study entitled “African-American Consumers: Still Vital, Still Growing,” which was commissioned by the National Newspaper Publishers Association, shows the underrepresented potential and spending power of the African American community. The report’s findings, which will be presented at the June conference of the National Association of Black Accountants Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, found that the African American population is an economic force to be reckoned with, with a projected buying power of $1.1 trillion by 2015 http://www.blackenterprise.com/small-business/african-american-buying-powerprojected-trillions.

Footnotes: Since unrelated individuals under 15 are excluded from the poverty universe, there are 430,000 fewer children in the poverty universe than in the total civilian noninstitutionalized population. The Census Bureau reports poverty data from several major household surveys

and programs. The Annual Social and Economic Supplement (ASEC) to the Current Population Survey (CPS) is the source of official national poverty estimates. The American Community Survey (ACS) provides single and multi-year estimates for smaller areas. The Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) provides longitudinal estimates. The Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE) program provides model-based poverty estimates for counties and school districts. https://www.census.gov/hhes/www/poverty/index.html.

Mr. Adell, by faith, I already have ownership of the TV Facility and am interested in partnering and affiliating with The Word Network in spreading the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ across the World. I will follow up with you after the Closing, Isa. 48:3. Thank you for your time and keep building upon that foundation given you as a 'wise masterbuilder', I Cor. 3:10. Prayerfully, I Corinthians 2:9 in 2015,

Pastor Ronnie D. Joyner, D.Min.
