One of the first projects with MEC students was motion art, based on the art of SFAI artist Charlie Ford, whose performative actions allude to everyday life and inspire us to reconsider the world around us through the space between: stillness and action, object and body, seriousness and humor, control and failure.

Students learned to build sculptural homes, adding some flair of their own. Greta encouraged students to think “outside the box” and add buttresses, balconies, fences, windows and doors. Their homes were part of a collaborative exhibit of a Floating City or El Pueblo Flotante for New Growth

Students were presented with various colors of clay to celebrate and portray the significance of cultural foods that bring nostalgia and memory of homes and families.

Visiting artist and sculptor, Santiago Insignares taught students the art of pastil - the making of surreal and abstract homes to create refugios, or places of imaginary refuge.

Our partnership with Root Division and the My Two Homes Project/LTAF has become part of our programming at Mission Education Center and my hope is that this project is always offered to all of our students. I can’t imagine our arts program without the My Two Homes Project/LTAF. Every school year our students participate in a year long art residency, we are matched with two amazing artists who are talented and have a passion for our community. Our students are always excited and engaged in their weekly classes. The artists have connected well with our students and they have inspired them to create beautiful pieces of art. Our students look forward to their weekly classes with the artists.
Nuestra colaboración con Root Division y el proyecto My Two Homes Project / LTAF se ha convertido en parte de nuestra programación en Mission Education Center y espero que este proyecto siempre se ofrezca a todos nuestros estudiantes. No puedo imaginar nuestro programa de arte sin el proyecto My Two Homes Project / LTAF. Cada año escolar, nuestros estudiantes han tenido la oportunidad de participar en una residencia de arte de un año con dos artistas increíbles que son talentosas y tienen una pasión por nuestra comunidad. Nuestros estudiantes siempre están entusiasmados y participan en sus clases semanales. Las artitas se han acoplado bien con nuestros estudiantes y los han inspirado a crear hermosas obras de arte. Nuestros estudiantes esperan con ansias sus clases semanales.
