Taking inspiration from an influential aspect of my life, “II” positively represents the idea of twins. My collection playfully portrays the beneficial elements of being a twin and the unbreakable bond between two siblings. The colours, inspired by the first family holiday I had with my twin brother, is a bold and striking palette with darker neutral tones mirroring the joy of being a twin. Taking inspiration from the Spring/Summer 2017 trend “Digital Wave” the silhouettes reflect the popular 80s androgynous styling of this trend as well as showing off a more masculine side representing fraternal twins. The collection also represents what being a twin means to others. Researching into the cultural meanings of twins these symbols are combined to create a monochromatic print. The most common understanding of twins is that despite being the strong individuals that they are, they always carry an element of the other within them meaning that they are never truly apart, this is represented through peek-a-boo pleating. One of the most identifiable symbols of twins is Gemini, its symbol has been combined with that of mine and my twin’s horoscope, Taurus, creating an interesting design emphasised by its embossment on to the garments. The idea of the repetition of twins, is portrayed through the duplication of key details in the garments all these elements combined means that my garments not only represent the positive impact that being a twin makes, but also the added strength and power being ‘one of two’ has.
