The Central District is the gateway to Rotterdam and home to many international companies and multinationals. A con stant stream of people move within and through the area. Due to its appealing, new public transport terminal, the Central District defines the image of downtown Rotterdam.

1 / Trattoria A Proposito A little corner of Italy in the heart of Rotterdam, just around the corner from Central Station. A Proposito has all the charm and style of an Italian family restaurant. Serves simple but delicious Italian food in an intimate setting. Don’t expect pizza, but you’ll find all those other dishes that make Italian cuisine so delightful.

This part of Rotterdam derives its name from the many Chinese businesses based here, but China Town is much more than that: the area is a veritable melting pot of cultures. It’s the perfect place to source exotic products and ingredients, from Asian bazaars to halal butchers and specialty bakeries.

54 / Restaurant Wereldmuseum In the historic building of the Wereldmuseum which was used as Prince Hendrik’s yacht club at the end of the nineteenth century, the superb chefs concoct fantastic foods to tantalise the tastebuds. Recently awarded a well-deserved Michelin star. 55 / Loos The majestic Scheepvaartkwartier is a perfect setting for the classic style of this grand café and restaurant. The menu offers a long list of classic dishes with a modern twist. The view at Loos is also an advantage, as it overlooks the Veerhaven inner harbour and its yachts and historic sailing ships.

56 / Quartier du Port A spacious, welcoming, elegant restaurant, situated in the renovated former offices of a eighteenth-century shipping firm. The lovely interior also includes room for original details. Friendly staff and a fantastic menu create a balanced combination of classical and artistic.

57 / Kip Although a restaurant named after the humble chicken might be assumed to be equally simple, Kip is anything but. The gorgeous old townhouse that house Kip is only the beginning. The focus is on pure, fresh foods, preferring authentic regional ingredients. Kip produces delicious French-Mediterranean cuisine with a classic elegance. 58 / Grand Café Restaurant Biblio Biblio is based in a renovated warehouse complex dating back to 1894. Decorated as a traditional English library with a jazzy feel, it looks like a film set from an earlier era. The menu caters to every taste, from lavish pasta dishes to braised veal to stir-fried tiger prawns. Includes a covered terrace in the inner courtyard of the complex. 59 / Parkheuvel This restaurant has two Michelin stars and is situated in a fantastic location on the edge of Het Park, surrounded by a green oasis of peace and quiet. Patron and cuisinier Erik van Loo and his expert team will ensure that the meal surpasses all your expectations. 60 / The Harbour Club The Harbour Club is housed in a sumptuous villa dating back to 1912, but its interior has been transformed into a contemporary and robust restaurant with an open-plan kitchen, sushi bar, shellfish tank and floor-to-ceiling wall of wines. The seasonal menu features fresh fish, shellfish and crustaceans, including the one-pound lobster, but also tender, juicy steaks. 61 / Brasserie Euromast Rotterdam’s unmistakable landmark, the Euromast, also offers a great dining experience. Take the lift up to an altitude of 96 meters and enjoy a first-class view of the city and the greater Rotterdam area. The extensive menu accommodates a simple meal or a leisurely evening, offering a range of options. *No congress menu, but a special offer: If you are a conference attendee dining at the Euromast, they offer free admission to the tower. If you display your conference badge and this restaurant guidebook when you arrive in the restaurant, the price of your admission ticket will be deducted from the bill after your dinner.

LLoydkwartier

65 De Machinist

62 FG Restaurant

The Lloydkwartier, where ships once departed for the Far East, is now dominated by homes and businesses with an impressive view of the water. The modern high-rise towers and renovated port buildings make this one of the most contemporary parts of Rotterdam.

62 / FG Restaurant Although Rotterdam has five restaurants that have earned their stars, FG may well be the most notable. FG became famous for its incredible food preparation methods, for instance the nitrogen technique used by patron and cuisinier François Geurds. An evening at FG is an intense voyage of culinary discovery. 63 / Stroom The trendy Stroom hotel also has a fresh and modern restaurant. It feels like you’re pulling up a chair in a friend’s large, cheerful kitchen. The tables are high and the chefs hold no secrets thanks to the openplan kitchen. Their only priority is to make sure that you have a fun, relaxing evening. The food is simple and delicious and the prices are affordable.

64 / Verhip The Verhip eatery is just as no-nonsense as Rotter dam. Friendly and inviting, the 80-year-old building displays architecture characteristic of the period. Verhip attracts a varied clientele, including many creative professionals working in the Lloydkwartier. Discover the famous Verhip satay skewers or opt for one of the 4 or 5 daily specials, with vegetarian and fish options. 65 / De Machinist Prospective sailors and pilots once walked these halls. The restaurant is based in the former Shipping Academy, making it a quintessential Rotterdam location. The menu includes several truly authentic classics of Dutch cuisine. De Machinist caters to a diverse group, ranging from young entrepreneurs who have offices on the upper floors of the building to people living in the local community.

67 / Vicini Osteria Vicini offers a taste of authentic Italy, serving simple and honest fare. Osteria is the Roman term used for a neighbourhood Italian restaurant where all the locals congregate, a kind of communal living room. The menu is good, but don’t forget to check out the daily specials posted on the wall.

68 / De Tuin van de Vier Windstreken This café and restaurant is situated by the Kralingse Plas lake at the edge of the forest. The menu offers an extensive range of options, and the waterfront terrace makes it a delightful spot for an informal dinner. Frequented by lots of Rotterdam locals.

69 / In Den Rustwat Dating back to 1597, this former inn includes many authentic details (not least the original floor and Delft blue tiles). Its cuisine is just as delightful as its interior; you’re in for a gastronomic treat! Classic ambience and an excellent place for a serious dining experience. 70 / Hemel op aarde The menu at Hemel op Aarde presents a range of tapas, featuring small dishes from countries all around the Mediterranean, including traditional and modern Spanish tapas and Greek mezzes. New daily specials are selected every week, tailored to the season. 71 / FG Food Labs FG Food Labs is a trendy, unusual hotspot exploring culinary boundaries and fostering fresh ideas. François Geurds (owner of two-star FG, nr. 62) and his team explore how precisely a flavour can be recreated, how purely an ingredient can be experienced. Expect a boundless taste experience that breaks free of established concepts. 72 / Restaurant De Jong This restaurant serves two four-course menus that change weekly: a vegetable menu or a seafood/ meat menu. The young chef enjoys showcasing seasonal vegetables, flowers and herbs. Expect pure, honest dishes and exceptional and surprising taste experiences.
