n behalf of our entire staff, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our little slice of paradise at Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa. Whether you’re here on business or for a family retreat, we’re thrilled that you’ve chosen to stay with us and look forward to helping you craft fun, unforgettable experiences. After all, making memories is what we do best. Returning guests know we’re more than just a property; we’re a tradition. In our 37 years in business, we’ve watched the children of families who visit annually grow up before our very eyes, and we can’t tell you how happy it makes us to see them return with kids of their own. And we’re just as excited to meet those of you who are visiting us for the first time. Here, we strive to encapsulate everything that makes our community great. Between our pristine beaches, extensive recreation opportunities, luxury accommodations and variety of restaurants showcasing some of the finest local cuisine around, I have no doubt that you, too, will find some traditions of your own. I feel fortunate to have spent the past 24 years here, and I’m excited for what’s still to come. The next couple of years will bring about fully renovated guest rooms, a new, state-of-the-art kitchen at Sandcastles Restaurant & Lounge and continued enhancements around the public spaces of the property to keep your stay fresh and exciting. Though the past two years have been challenging, our staff is dedicated to making your stay the best it can be. I like to think we have all the makings of Southern hospitality, with a New York sense of efficiency. Let us know if there’s anything we can do to enhance your stay, and we’ll promptly see it through. Making your day makes ours, too. So relax, rejuvenate and soak up all South Walton has to offer. I look forward to seeing you around.

fter 37 years of greatness at Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa, we couldn’t be more excited to bring it to the next level with new renovations and refreshments to the property. We’ve heard your feedback, and our staff has been keeping an eye on the latest hospitality trends to not only enhance your stay but also create for you the highest degree of accommodations. First, we’d like to announce the complete overhaul of the kitchen at Sandcastles Restaurant & Lounge. This kitchen was constructed when we first opened our doors, and now that its dining room has tripled in size, you could say it’s getting a much-needed facelift. The new, state-of-the-art cooking space is much more spacious and features an open-air concept, so you can watch our culinary experts cooking up our delectable breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings. We’ve created more space for inroom dining to further streamline room service and deliver your meals in a timely manner. The $2 million revamp also supports our efforts

to become more eco-friendly, and features an automated kitchen hood system that will run only as needed. Our cookware and products have also become more sustainable and reflect the level of quality you’ve come to expect at Hilton Sandestin Beach. In addition to Sandcastles’ kitchen upgrade, our guest rooms are also being refreshed. We’ve studied the trends and are ecstatic to debut the latest amenities to enrich your visit. Lodgings in the Emerald Tower are being completely revamped to include new carpeting, tiles and walls. Updated color schemes and art pieces work to bring the atmosphere of the beach indoors, and our novel, sustainable casegoods are built to withstand the elements. You’ll notice new, space-saving outlets and lamps mounted to the walls for accessibility and convenience.
We love the new02.03.2021 glass-front refrigerators, which will help prevent guests from forgetting their goodies when it’s time to leave. Individual reading lights are now mounted to your bed’s headboards, and beneath all mattresses, you’ll find motion-censored LED nightlights that’ll light your way to the bathroom. There, you’ll find fresh tile, updated hardware and electric mirrors that also create a soft, nighttime ambiance. Rooms in the Spa Tower will also be refurbished with new upholstery, decor and wall paint for a fresh, modern look. Our hallways, vending rooms and elevator landings are also getting a little love with new tiling and additional upgrades to improve your experience. All of this is done with you in mind, and we can’t wait to hear what you think.

ANSWERING YOUR CALL
he longest tenured employee of Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa, director of rooms Robin Bailer recalls one of the very first pieces of advice he received upon entering the hospitality scene. “Our general manager at the time told me to always approach a guest’s concern with, ‘The answer is yes, now what is the question?’” said Bailer. “And that is the exact mantra I teach my staff on the guest services team. Whether you’re asking a bellman, concierge or housekeeper, the answer is always yes. We will do everything we possibly can to make sure you’re satisfied.”
ours you’ll see as we wish you safe travels when you leave.” From the parking garage and guest lodgings to event areas and conference rooms, Hilton Sandestin Beach’s bellmen know every inch of the property. It’s that expertise that guarantees they can point you in the right direction at any time. Meanwhile, the concierge is available to assist with any and all recommendations you may seek. Bailer said his staff is trained to take all details into account before making a suggestion. Those traveling with children may be pointed to Baytowne Wharf, where massive playgrounds, ziplines and arcades await. The concierge team is happy to arrange bike rentals for more active guests and distributes resort maps that denote all the property’s recreational prospects. Meanwhile, Bailer likes to direct couples toward a drive along scenic Highway 30A or over to Eden Gardens State Park, an outdoor space that exudes romance with its blooming fields of camellias and wildflowers. Should you encounter any issues, Bailer encourages you to report them right away. “We would rather know there’s a problem with your stay while you’re here so we have the opportunity to fix it,” he said. “We have guests that save up all year to stay with us, and that’s a big deal. We want to be able to rectify what’s wrong and create for you the best experience possible.” Bailer genuinely believes his staff has your best interests at heart. “We get a sense of fulfillment when we can make our guests happy,” he said. “It’s always deeply rewarding to show guests they made the right decision to stay with us.”
THE WORKMANS
Bailer, who began as a dishwasher at Hilton Sandestin Beach in 1984 when the property opened, considers himself fortunate to have been able to work his way through the ranks to his current role. This resort, he said, has not only afforded him a satisfying career, but introduced him to the love of his life. “During my time as the director of guest services, I was asked to train a new employee that would be fulfilling a newly created position and acting as a concierge for the guests visiting us … and I thought that job should have been mine,” Bailer laughed. “So, naturally, I had a bit of a chip on my shoulder and was quick to judge this new team member. Then suddenly we were dating, and two years later, we were married. That was 15 years ago now, and I will always be thankful to Hilton Sandestin Beach for bringing us together.” As it happens, Bailer and his staff are in the business of creating exceptional experiences from the moment you arrive until you’ve departed. Let the front desk know prior to arrival if your visit marks a special occasion — perhaps a birthday, anniversary or even your honeymoon. His team enjoys creating special arrival experiences to surprise your loved ones. Bailer believes first impressions are as important as last ones. “I consider our full-service bellmen the bookends of the guest experience,” he said. “They are the first people you see when you arrive and will assist with your luggage and valet park your car. They are there to establish a rapport with guests and be that familiar face they can come to for any questions during their stay. They are also the last faces of

20 HILTON SANDESTIN BEACH 2022
LORENZO JEFFERSON SECURITY OFFICER
I have worked at Hilton Sandestin Beach for over 15 years and have loved being a part of a company where everyone feels like family. Working in multiple departments has given me the opportunity to figure out what I enjoy most. To anyone that is unsure about their potential career path, I highly recommend joining the team here at Hilton Sandestin. The management team has always encouraged me to do my best, and they continue to make me feel like I can do anything, so long as I try.
MAYESKA SAND SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER
In the short time that I’ve had the pleasure of working at Hilton Sandestin, my favorite moments involve seeing our guests’ smiling faces. I spend a lot of time walking around different parts the hotel to capture the next social media moment, and I love being able to see the genuine reactions our guests have throughout their stay. From watching a family’s excitement as they walk on the beach exclaiming, “This is the softest sand I’ve ever felt!” and seeing the joy on a little one’s face as they’re about to cannonball into the pool, to the animated grins guests have when served their favorite cocktail from Barefoot’s, each moment I witness is a Hilton Sandestin memory that I know our guests will forever cherish.
THE WORKMANS
ou’ve heard us say time and again that Hilton Sandestin Beach is where memories live. Successfully creating those memories for guests, be they picturesque beach celebrations and events, unforgettable dining and recreational experiences or the time-honored traditions of our perennial visitors, is what makes us who we are. Of course, none of this would be possible without the tireless efforts of our team. For an industry with notoriously high turnover rates, we have been fortunate to retain for years a tight-knit group who genuinely delight in making you feel like a part of the family. And, with the recent addition of new staff members, our family keeps growing stronger. For all of us, hospitality is a true calling. You challenge us to work smarter and harder, and because of you, we are better. The following testimonies are just a glimpse of the indelible impacts you’ve made on our staff. We hope we’ve touched your lives, just as you’ve touched ours.
GORDY FIEGEL ENGINEERING MECHANIC
Being a part of Hilton Sandestin’s team for over 16 years makes it difficult to narrow down my favorite memory to a singular moment. All my favorite memories here involve making our guests happy, whether it be with simple requests concerning heating and air or larger tasks, such as installing lighting fixtures in the spa. One moment does stand out to me, however. Back before On Demand movies were a thing, we would bring VCRs to the room upon request. Once, we had a family who needed a VCR to help their child go to sleep. Let’s just say they were very happy to see me when I arrived to install the VCR. I love getting to be part of moments like that. I really enjoy working with Hilton Sandestin and the amazing team they have built. Throughout all my years of work, I have not come across another company that has looked after its employees the way they do here.
JOANN HARGROVE REGIONAL SALES MANAGER
This year, I celebrated 20 years with Hilton Sandestin. Upon returning to the Gulf Coast, my happy place, in 1997, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to return home to Hilton Sandestin. Having had the opportunity to work and visit several other resort hotels in my 36-year career, I can honestly say that our property stands out among the best. Complemented with a dedicated staff who takes pride in curating unforgettable memories for our guests, it is simply paradise. We’ve been fortunate to have many generations of same-family employees on our team over the years. Watching each other’s kids grow up and blossom into their own is a joy to witness. Not only do we have the chance to see our coworkers’ families grow, but we also get to be part of our repeat guests’ lives. I’ve watched generations “grow up” at the Hilton Sandestin. Many who have spent summers in Kids Krew or hosted their wedding ceremonies on our decks, have returned to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, graduations and more at their home away from home.
ALAN ARISTE SECURITY OFFICER
I have been a member of the Hilton Sandestin security team for over three years now. There was one instance where I responded to a guest incident in which a woman had fallen and hurt her knee. I provided her with first aid while chatting with her husband. My goal is to always make our guests feel safe, and they told me how much they enjoyed my hospitality. They asked about my background and invited me to visit them in New Orleans, which was such a kind gesture. It’s not every day a guest makes you feel like part of their family, and this couple did just that. HILTONSANDESTINBEACH.COM

For the last seven years, I have had the opportunity to learn under some of the best chefs in Walton County. During my time working at Seagar’s, I’ve been mentored by the fi nest culinary talents while also having the chance to work with fresh and rare ingredients. I am so excited to be moving into my new role at Seagar’s as the special events manager. Taking my knowledge of the restaurant and using it to provide seamless guest experiences for those in our private dining spaces.
KHALIL WILLIAMS, RECREATION STAFF
AMBER HAM
A couple of years ago, I was working a Kids Night Out program and had the pleasure of meeting the Goldstein family. After two nights of fun events and games with their kids, Mrs. Goldstein pulled me aside to tell me about how much her children were enjoying the program. After leaving Kids Night Out each night, they had talked nonstop about how much fun they had! Working in recreation means I not only help with Kids Krew and Kids Night Out, but I also work on the beach setting up chairs and umbrellas for guests. Prior to the family leaving, I was able to chat with Mr. Goldstein on the beach. It was great being able to interact with the whole family during their trip. Fast forward to 2021, and while I was walking down the beach, I heard someone call my name. When I turned around, I was embraced by the warm smiles of the Goldstein family. It was awesome to have some familiar faces to catch up with, and I look forward to seeing them again soon.
There is something special about our groups that return year after year. They become part of the family, and you look forward to welcoming them home every year. Interacting with them is what makes the tough, busy days brighter. One of my favorite guest memories was when I made a reservation for a gentleman who attends one of our annual insurance meetings. He always requests a specific room for his family and has done so for well over 20 years. As I created his reservation, he told me how much he enjoyed the downtime with his family between meetings. He mentioned his kids “grew up in this hotel” and explained that his daughter, now fully grown, attends another meeting here as well. They make sure that they are able to come to each other’s conferences, so they get at least two visits a year to their favorite place with the whole family. What a special way to make memories with your family while also taking care of business — just a little bit of the magic that Hilton Sandestin provides. 22 HILTON SANDESTIN BEACH 2022

One of my fondest memories while working at Serenity by the sea Spa took place during the winter of 2014. The spa facility was going through a renovation, and we needed to relocate to a temporary space to continue servicing our guests. The whole team pulled together to relocate the entire spa to a new space in the Emerald Tower. It was nice to see how everyone on the team worked together to recreate a spa environment for each of our guests, even though we weren’t in the physical spa facilities. We received great feedback from our clients and spa members about how they enjoyed the change of scenery. Working with such an incredible team who can make our guests smile regardless of where they’re operating is what being a part of Serenity is all about!
MARIA DESTURA BANQUET CAPTAIN
Over the many years I’ve been with the Hilton Sandestin, my most favorite memory took place during a larger annual group conference. I worked with them through all of their events, from morning coffee to their evening buffet. Throughout the week, everyone seemed to be happy and reported no concerns. On the last day of their conference, my manager asked me to go to the Boardroom, as the group’s main contact was looking for me. Without any additional details, I was worried something had gone wrong. But, when I arrived, the main contact called me up to the front of the room and began complimenting me. They told everyone, my manager included, it had been the best week they ever had while visiting Hilton Sandestin, and that I was the one of the main reasons for that. I must admit I was a bit embarrassed, but also extremely proud, as providing a seamless experience for conference guests is my main priority.
I started at Hilton Sandestin back in 2010, and a few years later, my wife and I welcomed our son, Liam, into the world. Liam was born with cysts on his kidneys, and when he was 5, we became part of the transplant family. I donated one of my kidneys to someone in need, and another donor provided a kidney for Liam. Following his transplant, the hotel was throwing their annual team member holiday party. It’s one of my favorite traditions; the staff gets to bring their families in for a few hours to listen to music, eat a warm meal and play with each other’s kids. Our management team always has a gift for each child to open and then does a few extra giveaways. Liam and our family had just gone through a trying time, and we were excited to spend an afternoon together celebrating the holidays. To top off the day, Liam’s name was called for one of the big prizes: an enormous brown bear. He was so excited, he actually cried. Thanks to the Hilton Sandestin, it was a moment his mother and I will never forget. 24 HILTON SANDESTIN BEACH 2022

f there’s a silver lining to what we’ve learned over the last few years, Shanelle Lucas, Spa Director at Hilton Sandestin Beach, says it’s a renewed appreciation for self-care and overall wellness. At Serenity by the sea Spa, helping you look and — more importantly — feel your best has always been the priority. “People are currently seeking treatments that offer immediate results,” Lucas said. “And we’ve seen that at Serenity with our skin care and body treatments being some of the most highly requested services on our menu. Guests want to be able to put their best faces forward, with a glow that makes them feel like they can take on the world.” Lucas said many can achieve this glow after just one HydraFacial, a deep-cleansing treatment that exfoliates and rehydrates your face while addressing your specific skin care needs. Body therapies such as the Moroccan Body Melt, which relies on replenishing oils through massage and hot stones to melt away stress, are also stealing the spotlight. “In addition to treating themselves to some of the most highly rated and respected spa services in Florida, people have been taking advantage of the facility itself,” said Erin Story, Assistant Spa Director. “We have a fitness center with two Peloton bikes, whirlpools, steam rooms, dry saunas and a relaxing lounge area for anyone looking to make a day of their visit. After a trying couple of years, it’s nice to have a safe, serene space where you can catch your breath and relax awhile.” 28 HILTON SANDESTIN BEACH 2022

Serenity’s highly trained staff knows that true “relaxation” is a personalized experience. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to a spa, and that’s why they take the time to pinpoint services that meet your specific needs. “We’re not just order takers; we’re experience builders,” Lucas said. “Guests often call us with an idea of what they’d like, and it’s up to us to tailor our services to them. We spend countless hours on this process, but it’s so satisfying knowing we’ve crafted the ultimate spa day for our guests.” For gentlemen, that may look like a fresh cut and style in the Serenity Salon, followed by a rejuvenating soak in the men’s whirlpool. Brides can enjoy a wellness manicure, incorporating lavender CBD hand scrub, that will calm those pre-wedding jitters and give you flawless nails for close-up photos. 30 HILTON SANDESTIN BEACH 2022
Minors accompanied by adults are welcome to enjoy select amenities and treatments, like the tropicalscented Sherbet Splash mani/pedi combo and acne-eliminating facials that’ll boost your teen’s confidence. Serenity prides itself in using topquality, sustainable products in all available treatments. If during your stay you discover a new, life-altering beauty product or invigorating body oil you can’t live without, chances are you can pick up a bottle or two at the Spa Shoppe. “We oftentimes see guests come out of the spa, and they are so relaxed they’re almost in a trance,” Story said. “That’s when we know we’ve done our job.” “I’ve had guests come out so happy they high-fived me, while others can only muster a big, satisfied sigh with a smile,” Lucas added. “Those reactions are what make our job even more worthwhile.”

STAY IN THE SWING OF IT Gorgeous golf courses and state-of-the-art tennis courts beckon sports enthusiasts
T
he perfect climate and Gulf Coast locale makes this area a haven for golfers and tennis players alike. Our guests have access to four championship golf courses among some of the most beautiful settings that the Emerald Coast has to offer, so it’s no wonder that Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa is one of the Top 20 Florida Golf Resorts, according to Condé Nast Traveler. If you swing better with a racquet than a club, the 32 HILTON SANDESTIN BEACH 2022
resort has you covered with 15 tennis courts — 12 of them being HydroGrid clay. The tennis center, set amid beautiful landscaping, includes private tennis courts, a renowned Pro Shop, a shingled clubhouse with decks, private lessons with certified staff, group clinics, children’s tennis activities and six pickleball courts. A free shuttle runs between the tennis center and the resort. To reserve a court, rent equipment or check on the latest tennis happenings, call (850) 267-7060 or speak with our on-site concierge team.
THE LINKS GOLF CLUB The Links course, the resort’s original course, has been welcoming and challenging golfers for more than four decades. Designed by renowned architect Tom Jackson, The Links treats golfers to breathtaking views of Choctawhatchee Bay and Baytowne Marina. Not only do the coastal breezes help tame the Florida sun, but they also offer a good challenge on this true links-style course that has five waterfront holes. The Links course has four sets of tees to choose from and challenges golfers of any skill level. Take a swing on a course that’s been named one of the “Top 100 Courses in Florida” by Florida Golf News.
BURNT PINE GOLF CLUB Burnt Pine, designed by Rees Jones, brother of designer Robert Trent Jones Jr., offers golfers a one-of-a-kind experience throughout its expansive 7,000 yards, which include rolling fairways and strategically placed bunkers. The front nine at Burnt Pine takes players through pine forests and wetlands, while the back nine spotlights charming views of Choctawhatchee Bay. Golf Magazine has called Burnt Pine the “Crown Jewel of Florida Golf.” Seasonal and limited tee times are available.
RAVEN GOLF CLUB
Make sure to pack your clubs or racquets so you can enjoy all that the resort has to offer.
It’s not every day you get to play on a course where the pros sank birdies. The Raven Golf Club, twice a stop on the PGA Champions Tour, affords you that luxury. Some of the country’s best amateur golfers played Raven as part of the Division III National Championship in 2013. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., brother of Rees Jones, this course is just what the doctor ordered if you want to work every club in your bag. It meanders through wetlands, marshes and pine trees throughout Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Golf Week named Raven one of the “Best Courses You Can Play” on four occasions.
BAYTOWNE GOLF CLUB
SANDESTIN GOLF AND BEACH RESORT
Accolades galore have been written about the course at Baytowne Golf Club, and they are well deserved. This unique course has earned a 4.5-star rating from Golf Digest and features a variety of elevation changes, which is uncommon for courses in this region. Designed by Tom Jackson, this is the only golf course along Florida’s Gulf Coast that stretches from the Gulf of Mexico to Choctawhatchee Bay. Baytowne Golf was home to the 2013 NCAA Division III National Championship. The course’s five tee locations offer a challenge no matter the skill level or handicap.
DUNES PUTTING COURSE Enjoy the beachside Dunes Putting Course, day or night, for fun with the family or to brush up on your putting skills.
To reserve a tee time at any of the resort’s golf courses, call the Activities Desk at (850) 267-9500, ext. 3741. HILTONSANDESTINBEACH.COM

sk Tiffany Howell and Caidan Cryar what their role is at Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa, and they’ll tell you they’re in the “fun” department. Indeed, Howell and Cryar, the Director and Assistant Director of Recreation, are master distractors, packing so much action into guests’ vacations, that they’ll never need to venture off property to seek entertainment. Both ladies got their start at Hilton Sandestin Beach’s pool hut, a summer job that led to their life’s calling. “I know for Caidan and myself, it’s been a joy to work our way up to the positions we’re in now,” said Howell. “We have a really great team in recreation that works hard to bring joy to everyone — especially when it’s raining.”
Rainy day diversions almost always include complimentary movie marathons on the lower lobby level of the Emerald Tower. Cryar will usually organize a game of bingo or one of her famous scavenger hunts that the whole family will love. But chances are that fickle Florida weather will give way to sunshine, and you’ll be beach bound in no time. With direct access to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Hilton Sandestin Beach offers numerous amenities to ensure you experience the ultimate getaway. “Reserve your beach chairs and umbrellas in advance to make sure you get a perfect spot,” Howell advised. “For those who don’t, we recommend getting to the beach services hut before 11 in the morning as the beach fills up quickly.” HILTONSANDESTINBEACH.COM

well in advance of your visit. Dial (850) 267-9500 when you make your hotel reservation and ask to speak to our beach services team, or visit HiltonSandestin.ipoolside.com to reserve online. ◆ Before you hit your day of play, be sure to visit the Pool Hut to gear up for some fun in the sun — including complimentary beach towels. Feel free to leave the beach chairs and pool noodles at home. ◆ Teens (14 and older) are welcome to climb aboard a stand-up paddleboard or kayak. Don’t have your “sea legs”? No worries, a member of the beach crew will be happy to show you how. ◆ Kids Krew activities may be available at varying hours, and under the capable watch of Cryar, children aged 5–12 can enjoy themed parties, face painting, tiedying and more. ◆ The Pool Hut will inflate your kids’ floaties and pool toys free of charge. 36 HILTON SANDESTIN BEACH 2022

Capable and compassionate recreation staff entertain our littlest guests with games, movies and Kids Krew activities.
Depending on the day’s water conditions, the recreation team has kayaks and standup paddleboards available for rent for guests that are 14 years old or older. If the waves are too choppy, there are plenty of pleasures to be had in the sand. A volleyball net is set up for free play, and the rec crew is standing by with footballs, Frisbees, soccer balls and other equipment for some friendly competition. You can have s’more fun by arranging a private beach bonfire before you arrive. Gather your tribe around a fire pit stocked with three hours worth of firewood, and make memories as the sun gives way to a sea of stars. If you wish to soak up the sun sans sand and salt, Hilton Sandestin Beach offers two handicap accessible pools on either side of Barefoot’s Beachside Bar & Grill, plus an indoor pool, two whirlpools and a shallow toddler pool for the littlest ones.
Don’t worry about bringing your own towels. The pool services team offers a complimentary supply that guests may check out and return at the end of each day. “We also sell sunscreen, noodles, goggles and anything else you may need for a pool day at the pool services hut,” said Cryar. “Guests can also reserve a poolside cabana at the pool services hut, which are great for families and small groups to enjoy.” Poolside cabanas can seat up to six and include a shaded dining area, sunscreen, ice-cold water bottles and souvenir koozies. Consider upgrading to a premium cabana to accommodate eight people with lounge chairs and a cozy couch that grandpa will enjoy using for his afternoon siesta. The pool deck sets the scene for the resort’s seasonal events, such as the Fourth of July carnival. Before an evening of an outdoor barbecue and a bombastic fireworks finale, guests have a blast on the deck with games, poolside performances and kid-centric festivities. Whether you’re looking for help arranging a proposal for your sweetheart or simply need some extra towels, all you have to do is ask. “We wouldn’t be able to do our jobs without our wonderful recreation team,” said Cryar. “Especially these last two years, our team has shown up and really carried our department. We all appreciate each other and love what we do.”

At Hadashi Sushi Bar, Chef Jim Kim never disappoints. Located just off Hilton Sandestin Beach’s main lobby, guests can pull up a stool at the bar or be seated at a table to enjoy authentic sashimi, nigiri and hand-rolled sushi staples, as well as unique chef creations from the master himself. Chef Kim won’t tell you his is the best sushi in South Walton, but Angelina Covington, Operations Director at Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa, tells it like it is: “I’ve heard, numerous times, people say his sushi is the best they’ve ever eaten,” she said. In Japanese, the term “Hadashi” even translates to superiority. The perfect close to a day at the beach or date night spot, Hadashi boasts a casual atmosphere that reflects its refreshingly simplistic offerings. Get started with traditional Japanese seaweed salad, miso soup and edamame, but save some room for the main event. Kim’s custom rolls will vary seasonally and depend on the freshest fish available in the Gulf of Mexico, but it’s safe to say any item pairs well with a cold Sapporo beer. To really augment the authenticity, consider ordering a carafe of warm or chilled sake. Gather your friends, raise a glass and, as the Japanese say, “Kanpai!”

OUR MEMORIES • Shelter House was honored to have the Hilton Sandestin Beach participate in the fourth annual Palate & Palette live painting and wine dinner in 2020. This event featured six of the area’s top chefs collaborating to create a five-course seated dinner. The event has become Shelter House’s biggest annual fundraiser, and having Chef Vargo in the kitchen was an incredible addition to the lineup. Chef Vargo’s professionalism and skills were raved about by the guests who loved his creation — bourbonglazed pork served with peppered Florida cheese ravioli. This was Hilton Sandestin Beach’s first year participating in Palate & Palette. However, they have been supporting Shelter House’s Purses with Purpose event since 2016. Guests know that when Hilton Sandestin Beach is involved in an event, it will be top notch. Their team always brings a level of professionalism and a standard of excellence to every event they host or participate in. The reputation that the Hilton Sandestin Beach has built means a lot in our community. They are a well-known community partner for countless nonprofits in our area. Their efforts to give back to our community haven’t gone unnoticed.

Greek yogurt, various cereals and fresh fruit are also available for a quick bite. Where The Coffee Shop really shines is in its selection of freshly made, decadent pastries. The bakery is always chock-full of guest favorites, such as assorted muffins, danishes, chewy cookies and oversized cinnamon rolls. That’s thanks to Hilton Sandestin Beach’s Assistant Pastry Chef, Cherny Nero Rodriguez. Cherny discovered her love for confections while working at Seagar’s and has trained under Hilton Sandestin Beach’s awardwinning Pastry Chef, Yascha Becker. After seven years with the resort, she is thrilled to be baking something new every day. “Whether I’m assisting with banquet desserts and wedding cakes, or providing pastries for The Coffee Shop, I’m happy to be here,” she said.

EXPLORE ARTIFICIAL REEFS
In 2015, eco-tourists and locals alike went crazy for the new artificial reef that debuted in Grayton Beach. This manmade structure was coined Turtle Reef, as it is shaped like a sea turtle when viewed from above. Since then, three other reefs have been added, taking the forms of a dolphin, a sea horse and a cobia, in the waters off Scenic Highway 30A. Like natural reefs, these habitats attracted the attention of sundry marine creatures that now live and flourish in the newfound shelters. Families are invited to snorkel and observe a colorful array of fish, marine plants and rare sea turtles as they weave through the towers of the reef. Conduct an underwater photo safari to capture the brilliance of the environment, skin-dive or stay at the surface and fish from a kayak. SWARAreefs.org
BIOPHILIA CENTER
Though the emerald-green waters of our beaches may get the most attention, visitors should know that Walton County is a natural wonderland upland, too. Fascinate your family with a visit to the E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center, nestled in an enchanting longleaf pine forest in Freeport, just a short drive from the resort. The center, named for the world-renowned biologist, explores the region’s rich biodiversity by way of trails, expert staff, interactive exhibits and displays. EDEN GARDENS
When you meander in Eden Gardens State Park, you travel back in time. The first thing you see is an alabaster mansion known as the Wesley House. Dating to 1897, the plantation-style house is now inhabited by antiques and vintage furnishings that provide snapshots of a bygone age. Take a guided tour or feel free to roam the grounds. Weeping willows and oaks overhang impressive, green acreage ideal for picturesque picnics on the grounds or under the pavilions and for outdoor recreation. At one end of the property is Tucker Bayou, where anglers can spend the day casting from the docks. The gardens present a vibrant collection of flowers and shrubbery yearround. Hiking trails lead visitors into the natural areas beyond the ornamental gardens. FloridaStateParks.org/parks-andtrails/eden-gardens-state-park
MORRISON SPRINGS
Morrison Springs County Park in Ponce de Leon encompasses 161 acres of preserved woodland. Trekking along in the shade of cypress and oak trees, you wind up at one of the area’s most striking natural springs. • I was invited to spend a long weekend exploring Hilton Sandestin Beach while covering the 30A Songwriters Festival along with two other ladies. We enjoyed the different amenities on- and off-site as we provided our audiences with information about the surrounding area. It was a dream partnership. Everything was done seamlessly. There was great communication from the get-go, and when we finally met the Hilton Sandestin Beach team, it was like we had known each other for years. The team there took care of us from the moment we walked in the door. With amenities like Serenity by the sea Spa, the AAA FourDiamond steakhouse Seagar’s and nearby golf courses, this is the perfect destination for a girls’ trip, a couples trip and or even a trip for the whole family. They have truly thought of everything — from giving parents a break by offering Kids Krew services to accommodating adults with entertainment and food options that surpass all expectations. There is enough on-site so you never need to leave, but if you do choose to, there’s a shuttle that can take you to more shopping and food options. It makes for an amazing vacation where you can truly let your hair down and relax. I already loved the area and share about it so much with my audience that I was glad to be able to introduce them to an all-time favorite place of mine, Hilton Sandestin Beach.

There are plenty of souvenirs available for purchase, but why not create something of your own to take home? Create something beautiful to commemorate your trip at the Shard Shop, a one-of-a-kind studio that supplies guests with all the supplies necessary to make gorgeous works of glass. Here’s how it works: Each member of your family is given a blank canvas upon arrival. Draw out your design, and then fill it using pieces from an enormous collection of glass, shells and other objects that sparkle or shimmer. Experienced teachers guide each participant and provide a safe method of creating standout art. Whether you create a beach scene or outline your favorite quote, your finished piece will be durable and will shine in your home. This is made possible by professionals who reinforce your design with resin overnight, preparing your finished piece for departure by the next day — almost as great as though 2014 South Walton Artist of the Year Mary Hong helped you make it herself! OUR MEMORIES • My family has enjoyed coming to the Hilton Sandestin and making memories. It’s a place that always brings us together — especially our children. The kids loved playing together in the pool and at the beach, and the bunk beds were always a hit! While attending Kids Krew, they made friends with other children and the recreation staff. They always enjoyed the poolside “dive-in” movies and tasty treats from Picnix. One of our best visits was in 2013, when a storm stood in the way of our sun and surf. The Hilton Sandestin didn’t let it ruin our fun and jumped into action with loads of indoor activities. The ballrooms were filled with face painting, balloons, inflatables, popcorn and movies. It was quite a feat, but the staff rolled with it, and all the guests, including my #TeamBrown6, had a blast!

STARTS HERE A wedding in paradise is never a chore with the crew at Hilton Sandestin Beach BY HANNAH BURKE
W
hen you think “destination wedding,” it’s hard not to visualize the crystal-white sand, gentle lapping waves and watercolor sunsets that defi ne Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa. For that reason, thousands of brides and grooms have traveled to the Sandestin area from all corners of the world for the ultimate testament of their love. On their big day, couples hope to reflect that love — in all its impassioned glory — in their ceremony. That may be a tall order, but Jon Lovett, Director of Events at Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa, said his team have yet to miss the mark. “Each year, I am blown away by how many brides and grooms choose to have their weddings take place here,” said Lovett. “We’re fortunate to not only have a beachfront location, but a successful weddings team providing consistent levels of service for our guests.” Lovett speaks highly of Angela Kramer, Hilton Sandestin Beach’s wedding and special events manager, who he says expertly builds relationships with brides and grooms that foster trust. The team at Hilton Sandestin Beach knows wedding planning is arguably one of the most stressful events of your life, and that’s why they provide an extensive list of vetted weddings coordinators, decorators, florists, photographers and entertainment vendors. “Bridges and grooms are required to have a ‘day-of’ wedding coordinator when they book with us,” says Lovett. “This ensures no detail is missed — from the moment you wake up as fiancés to saying goodnight as newlyweds.”

Creating memorable beachside nuptials is important, so working directly with Angela and the events team to personalize your ceremony is key. Investing in a wedding package with Hilton Sandestin Beach includes custom florals, a three-tiered wedding cake baked by the resort’s in-house, Pastry Chef, Yascha Becker, a ceremony officiant and wedding night accommodations. “Our wedding packages are like a one-stop-shop for brides and grooms, as they offer all the essentials, including a day-of wedding coordinator, photographers and a custom ceremony playlist,” said Lovett. “We feel these packages best showcase what we do here, and should you wish to customize your package, we’re happy to do that as well.”
While it’s not often couples take advantage of Hilton Sandestin Beach’s elegant and spacious ballrooms outside of receptions, if an indoor wedding ceremony is what you desire, the team can make it happen. Hilton Sandestin Beach is more than just a venue, it’s a paradise. Treat your wedding party to some prenuptial pampering at Serenity by the sea Spa, or arrange for a private dinner at Seagar’s Prime Steaks & Seafood. Onsite “I Do” specialists are ready to accommodate your requests and ensure your special day is nothing short of exceptional. “At the end of the day, we each work in the hospitality industry because we enjoy serving others,” Lovett said. “When people ask us what we do for a living, we simply tell them we help others make lasting memories.”

BUSINESS WITH PLEASURE Don’t sweat the details, let us help plan your next get-together BY HANNAH BURKE
F
or Kevin Rosa, Director of Sales & Marketing at Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa, selecting a venue for an important meeting or event is akin to buying a house. “It’s all about location, location, location,” he says. Beyond the location, you want to ensure there is enough room to accommodate your family and that it’s equipped with the proper amenities to support your needs. From its gorgeous, Gulf Coast vistas and ample assembly space to a consistently reliable event management team, Hilton Sandestin Beach checks all the boxes. “This property has a rich, 37-year history of meetings and events,” said Rosa. “I’ve been a hospitality executive for over 30 years now and have rarely seen annual group business like this property manages. The fact that, year after year, dozens of entities choose us repeatedly is a testament to our team and should be celebrated.” A huge draw, Rosa said, is Hilton Sandestin Beach’s “flexible and functional” meeting space. Larger conferences and events have their pick of ballrooms — Emerald, Coral and Coastal. Each ballroom lies adjacent to one another, and though they remain separate and vary in size and capacity, all have access to around 80 HILTON SANDESTIN BEACH 2022
14,000 square feet of pre-function areas, ideal for cocktail receptions, registration sites and midday breaks. Each ballroom is equipped with state-of-the-art technological facilities capable of supporting your audio/visual presentation needs, though smaller groups may opt for the resort’s 1,260-square-foot theater, which boasts tiered seating and individual writing desks for those wishing to take notes. More intimate gatherings will find privacy in the Pelican and Heron Rooms, both just under 1,000 square feet, whose seating seamlessly accommodates smaller organizations. For those crucial executivelevel meetings, though, Rosa recommends the Boardroom, a stylish and sophisticated conference space that seats up to 12 and includes a self-contained bathroom, balcony and foyer. Of course, you’d be remiss not to treat your attendees to the sweeping, sandywhite shores just outside the conference room doors. Rosa said it’s not uncommon to host events and receptions on the pool deck to add a literal breath of fresh air to your schedule and get those creative juices flowing. Meeting planners should consider outdoor team-building activities such as yoga on the Sunrise Deck, beach Olympics directly in the sand and beach volleyball or

• For over 35 years, the Congress of Clinical Rheumatology has had a wonderful relationship hosting conferences at Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa. Throughout the years, our conference has grown from around 100 attendees to over 700. Over the years, we have had instances where we ended up with more attendees than expected or had other miscellaneous changes, and the Hilton Sandestin Beach staff has always swiftly adjusted and been more than accommodating. They update and upgrade their facilities every few years, and each time they grow, it allows us to continue to host even larger events. Our conference currently hosts over 700 doctors and their families for six days, and I never have to worry because I know our attendees will enjoy themselves. Thanks to the variety of amenities, the wonderful food, the spacious conference rooms and the helpful and friendly staff, our attendees always enjoy themselves. There is a comfort in knowing I can call their team with any need, and they will accomplish it efficiently and with a smile.

MORE THAN A VACATION
I
BY MARK FORMBY
n 1992, I was invited to speak at a convention at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa. The then 7-year-old resort’s amenities and accommodations were obviously a cut above those offered among surrounding properties. Little did I know, that convention would ignite a 30-year love affair with Hilton Sandestin and Miramar Beach. I married my wife, Rita, in 1994 and this became our favorite vacation spot. Every summer, we would make at least one trip to enjoy the sugar-white sand, Gulf breezes and spectacularly painted sunsets. But, it was being 86 HILTON SANDESTIN BEACH 2022
pampered by a well-trained and highly personable staff that made our stays most memorable. No matter the time, there was always someone ready and willing to help. Sometimes, our getaways felt like a necessity. Rita was an emergency room nurse in the New Orleans metropolitan area, while I was in real estate and sales. Late afternoons on the beach, spa treatments and delicious seafood dinners would melt away the stress of “real life.” The summer of 2007 ushered in a new era of family fun. We brought along our 1-year-old daughter, Rebekah, and as
we started to unpack, she pulled herself up and waddled across the room. Those were her very first steps. Next year, our son, Eli, made his Hilton Sandestin debut at the ripe old age of eight months. But life took a turn when, at 16 months, Eli started having seizures. They were ugly, uncontrollable and unstoppable. Brain surgery, implants and huge doses of medication began to take an intellectual toll on our little man. But, even with his challenges, Eli loved his trips to the beach. In turn, Hilton Sandestin fell in love with Eli and his sister. Throughout the resort, I became known as “Eli’s Daddy.” The Kids Krew staff gave us great peace and reassurance that we could leave our children with them while Rita and I enjoyed a rare dinner together. Most nights, Eli would require one-on-one interaction, but they handled it. Over the years, traditions began to take shape: Eli’s increasingly sophisticated sandcastle construction, early lunch at the pool cabana and Rebekah’s daily double order of watermelon. Our family has found a home away from home at the Hilton Sandestin. This summer, we’re looking forward to building more castles and making new dreams come true. We’ll see you soon!

A TAYLOR FAMILY TRADITION BY SARA D. TAYLOR
W
hen I learned that my first Thanksgiving as a newlywed was going to be spent with my husband’s family at a hotel in Sandestin, Florida, I’ll admit that I was reluctant. While the invitation was generous, we had been married for less than four weeks, and this was yet another big change. I grew up in Southwest Virginia and had moved to Birmingham, Alabama, just days before our wedding. I was already missing my family and had my doubts about this arrangement. Who spends Thanksgiving at a hotel? And, eating a traditional turkey dinner in a restaurant? Unthinkable. But going to the beach was a timehonored Taylor family ritual. It began in 1985, when my father-in-law suggested we “escape” to the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa for 90 HILTON SANDESTIN BEACH 2022
promise of spa treatments, golf and shopping. No cooking, no cleaning, just a relaxing time spent with my husband’s wonderful family. Perfection. Since then, our families have grown to include our two daughters, my sisterin-law’s husband and their three children. On occasion, we’ve extended an invitation to my parents, my sister and her family so they, too, could experience this leisurely holiday magic. The more the merrier! Over the years, we’ve rarely missed a Thanksgiving at the Hilton Sandestin. Each Our girls and their cousins Thanksgiving, are now in their teens, but the Taylor tribe they still eagerly anticipate gobble up all our family time at the beach. Sandestin has to offer. They’re already planning on the delicious breakfast buffet at Sandcastles, “treasure hunting” in the gift shop, Starbucks lattes and ice cream from The Coffee Shop, boogie boarding in the emerald water, pool Thanksgiving.
