Throughoutthecourseofthisspecialstudy,Ihaveusedwalkinganddrawingasamethodof understandingmycomfortlevelsandthephysicalqualitiesthatinfluencethis.Toimprovemy understandingofwhatinfluencedmycomfortlevelsIcreatedfourdifferentsetsofcircumstances; aknownrouteinthedaytimerepeatedatnightandanunknownrouteinthedaytime,again repeatedatnight.Theintentionwastoallowmetonotonlyanalysephysicalaspectsofspacebut alsohowcomfortlevelsandtheabilitytoanalysespacechangedinunfamiliaranddark environments.

WalkingtheseroutesheightenedmyawarenessofthediscomfortIfeltwhentravellingthrough spacesthatwereunfamiliartome.Thisfeelingcanlimitwomentoonlyusingaverysmall sectionofthecity(onewhichtheyfeelmostfamiliarwith)reducingtheirabilitytoexplorenew areas.Toimprovethis,architectsandurbanplannersshoulddesigncitiesthatcanbeeasily navigatedusingsignageandlandmarkstogiveapedestrianfamiliaritywithinunfamiliarspaces.
