iGemmer
is a Johannesburg based brand that is creatively inspired by African culture and rootsiGemmer is a ginger beverage that has been present amongst Africans for many generations, traditionally consumed at family and social gatherings such as weddings and cultural milestones, iGemmer has been the constant drink that fond nostalgic memories have been built upon. We’ve introduced a perfectly blended iGemmer concentrate that doesn’t require you to break a sweat anymore.i Gemmer is mixed with high quality ingredients that give you that “kwetsa” effect and a little something extra that gives it that lasting and refreshing taste that burst in your mouth and leaving you thirsting for more. So what problem are we solving: We observed that people are no longer consuming iGemmer as much as when we grew up whether it be time constraints, not knowing how to cook it or not knowing where to and it. Solution: We are taking iGemmer out of the traditional occasional consumption, i.e weddings, funerals and repackaged it into a daily consumable beverage, that is accessible and convenient.
HOW:
We produced an authentic tasting concentrate which you simply dilute with water We packaged it in a manner that makes it appealing and accessible both to young and old.

TIPS FOR BEGINNERS
ROYAL ROUGE MAGAZINE | 2019 | WWW.ROYALROUGE.CO.ZA
These gym tips for beginners can help you reach your health goals and gain the confidence you need to keep it going. by Mary Lambkin New to working out? You might be wondering where to start. Follow these seven gym tips for beginners to feel stronger — physically and mentally — before and after every gym session.
1. Be Proud Before diving into the practical gym tips for beginners, remember that the most important exercise catalyst is confidence. Whether you’re lifting 100 pounds or 1 pound, you should be proud of yourself for showing up at the gym at all! Don’t be intimidated by others or scared to ask for help. Remember that everyone at the gym was once in your shoes. Those first few workouts, no matter how “easy” they are in terms of physical intensity, are often the most mentally challenging. Be proud, remain confident and trust that your gym skills and fitness savvy will increase over time.
2. Stay Strong Beginners often flock to the treadmills and stationary cycles because these machines are easy for all ages and ability levels. But don’t get stuck in a cardio rut — try incorporating at least two days of strength training into your weekly routine. If you aren’t feeling ready to explore the weight room, remember that bodyweight exercises can be just as effective at building strength. Not really sure where to start? Try one of Planet Fitness’ unlimited, free fitness training sessions
offered to all members through PE@PF. These small group sessions are led by certified trainers and can teach you basic weight-training and workout movements. Additionally, most Planet Fitness locations offer a 30-minute Express Circuit training option that can guide you through a full-body workout. 3. Work Hard If you’re not sweating by the end of your workout, perhaps you aren’t pushing yourself hard enough. Try to reach an “out of breath” state at least once during your workout by incorporating high-intensity movements like sprinting, jumping jacks, burpees or squat jumps. 4. Ask How Instead of shying away from exercises or equipment you’re unfamiliar with, ask a gym employee or fellow gym-goer for help. Utilize resources like ACE Fitness’ exercise library and the CDC’s workout videos for tips on form and technique. Another good idea is working with a certified trainer to help familiarize yourself with the gym layout and draft a workout plan.
USDA’s recommendation of filling at least half of your plate with fruits and vegetables. It’s a good idea to prepare before (and refuel after) every workout with highprotein snacks like nuts, yogurt, deli meat, hummus and cottage cheese. Of course, maintaining a balanced diet will help you meet your fitness goals, but it’s also realistic to enjoy an indulgence here and there! 6. Be Realistic Losing weight, gaining strength, boosting endurance and increasing flexibility are all long-term goals — so don’t expect to reach ultimate strength in a single week. Be realistic about the goals you set for yourself. For example, see if you can add five more pounds to your shoulder press or shave ten seconds off of your mile time within a month.
7. Rest and Repeat Even the most experienced athletes appreciate the importance of rest after a hard workout. Try to get eight hours of sleep every night, take at least one rest day a week and always walk into the gym ready to repeat another solid workout. 5. Eat Up Once you get into a routine, Working out won’t yield you’ll graduate from your results if your diet isn’t “beginner” status in no time. in check, too. Replace As always, please consult unhealthy foods with with a physician prior to healthy alternatives and try beginning any exercise to cut back on sugar. A good program. HISTORY STATEMENT
whenever I got a chance. I felt that I had to look the way I wanted to.
HOW CALLÉNDRA WAS FORMED
As I grew older I started falling in love with cosmetics even more to the point where I would blow half of my salary on foundations to cover my freckles which I loved so much. I just love how you can put on some make-up and it changes the way you feel for that entire day! It really makes a woman feel empowered. In saying that, I could never really find a foundation that was perfect for me and that lived up to their word. I’m not fussy, but if you tell me that your foundation is full coverage and lasts the 16hrs you claim, then hell you better live up to that promise! The hunt continued. promise! The hunt continued. Until one day this statement knocked me off my feet – If you want something done right, then you have to do it yourself. I thought, damn. Am I going to create a foundation? How? Where do I even start?
“I have always been so fascinated by make-up since a very young age. My mom will probably be able to explain better on how I use to dig in her make-up since I was 6 years old. I have some freckles that I was never really a fan of, so in school I would use my mom’s foundation to try and cover it up – looking quite pale I must add. So everyday when I got to school, it was known already that Callen was wearing make-up, I was always asked to wash my face in front of the entire school. Sometimes I’d refuse and then I would get community service in school for saying no, and sometimes I would just wash my face and quickly re-apply
It took me almost 3 months of research, reading, studying and playing around with ingredients and pigments for me to eventually get it right! I will never forget it, it was 23h30 pm on a Wednesday night that I got the formula perfect, I created a foundation for myself, one that I loved! The next step was to test it. For the next 2 weeks I wore only my foundation and my powder and was extremely pleased with the results, so much so that I kind of forced it on my friends, who later came back to me and told me they gave their very expensive foundation away as they found a better one, calléndra! Now, months down the line and we are expanding at a massive rate.”

Product Review
Callendra foundation's main focus and only purpose is to cover up your skins imperfections like redness, acne, pigmentation and uneven skin tone to achieve a second skin that is more healthy and glowing. The set consists of a 10ml foundation and 10ml powder, selling at R199.
I have a very oily skin with redness on my nose. I tested the product, sleeping with it on to see if it is smudge proof and if it will keep my skin shine free, still giving it full cover. When I awoke in the morning, not only did my skin look amazing, but the product lived up to it's standard as advertised. This is an excellent product and I highly recommend it. The product is organic, natural and not tested on animals.
I have over the years, bought many expensive foundations and powders Don't be fooled by the small quantity, the on the market and have found that they foundation and powder goes a long way can't even compete. allowing you to just use a little bit at a time. The powder sets the foundation. You can order this product by calling Callen Danica van der Nest on 083 857 9620 or go on to her Facebook page Callendra for more information. Renewal INSTITUTE Pigmentation vs Melasma Pigmentation is a condition that South African women often struggle with, due to the harshness of the African sun.
The tricky part about managing pigmentation, however, is the fact that there are different types, and before you can tackle the problem you need to know what you are dealing with. Once you’ve identified the type of pigmentation you have, you can better understand how to manage and maintain your skin to ensure that it doesn’t reoccur once you have it under control. The different types of pigmentation are: • Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) • Pigmentation due to sun damage • Hormonal pigmentation (Melasma) • Hypopigmentation 20
Here is more information on each, along with some treatments options: Post inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) This type of pigmentation occurs due to injury or inflammation. For example, if you suffered from acne in the past you’re often left with brown spots where there used to be acne lesions. This is due to squeezing, picking and the inflammatory nature of the acne lesions. Treatment Options: Luckily this type of pigmentation can be treated fairly easily through chemical peels, Limelight, Laser Genesis, Microdermabrasion and Transdermal Mesotherapy. Pigmentation due to sun damage and sun spots Repeated sun exposure causes this type of pigmentation - the older we get, the more the sun damage from our youth rises to the surface. One bad case of sunburn can, however, also contribute to the condition. Treatment Options: This type of pigmentation can be treated with Fraxel DUAL, Pearl Fusion, chemical peels, Limelight, Laser Genesis, carboxytherapy, microdermabrasion and Transdermal Mesotherapy.

Hormonal Pigmentation (Melasma) Melasma is one of the most difficult types of pigmentation to treat as it has multiple internal and external triggers, including hormones, leaky gut syndrome, uncontrolled inflammation in the body, etc. Unfortunately, it’s like a disease that you will have to manage and maintain for the rest of your life as the chances of reoccurrence are high if not managed correctly. Treatment Options: This is more challenging to treat and may require intervention by a Health Renewal doctor who can order blood tests to investigate hormonal profiles, gut health, and possible deficiencies. Generally, hormonal pigmentation requires gut restoration, hormone balancing and a reduction in inflammation, before in-clinic treatments will work. Topical treatments are used to suppress pigmentation while targeted treatments such as Cosmelan and Dermamelan and noninflammatory treatments like Mesotherapy slowly and systematically target the pigmented areas.
Hypopigmentation Hypopigmentation is when an area/s of the skin starts to lose pigment, and you’re left with white patches or spots. Again, it’s very difficult to treat as it can have multiple causes, including injury, severe sun damage, scarring and certain diseases. In some cases, especially when related to diseases that completely destroy the pigment producing cells (melanocytes), hypopigmentation is completely irreversible.
T
reatment Options: It is essential to first consult a Skin Renewal Doctor to ascertain the cause and whether there is any chance of restoring the natural pigmentation process by the melanocytes (pigment producing cells). If not, your only option is to replace the pigment artificially, using permanent makeup. As pigmentation is not just a straightforward condition, it is advised to visit an aesthetic doctor for an individual assessment to ensure that the correct treatments are prescribed. For more information on pigmentation, melasma and the treatment thereof, visit Skin Renewal on www. skinrenewal.co.za or contact 0861 SKIN SA (754 672). ENDS Words - 558

The 4 Pillars
of Anti Ageing With the images of near perfection portrayed in magazines and in the movies, normal women have a distorted perception of what they’re supposed to look like, putting unhealthy and unrealistic expectations on themselves. Society also unfortunately responds better to good-looking people, and even though we do feel more confident when we look our best, it can be damaging to strive to become someone else in the process, whereas being the best version of ourselves is a much healthier approach.

EDICAL GRADE VERSUS OVER THE COUNTER PRODUCTS
There is often a question around whether or not medical skin care products are really any better than products that can be bought over the counter. To clarify what the difference between the two are – medical skin care products are prescribed and dispensed by doctors, whereas over the counter products are available in pharmacies, department stores, salons and anywhere that products are for sale without being prescribed by a medical doctor.
indicative of how good a product is. Even though they are more widely available at a larger supplier of stockists, as there are many over the counter products that are expensive too. There are three very simple reasons why there is a remarkable difference between the two. Usage of active ingredients Active ingredients are formulated to address particular conditions, but with over the counter products being formulated for everyone, the use of active ingredients is very limited in these products. This includes both the number of ingredients used, as well as the percentages or dosages.

Penetration into the skin Secondly, with limited or no active ingredients, the over the counter products can’t break through the surface to reach the deeper levels of the skin. The active ingredients are formulated to reach the deeper layers of the dermis. It is at this level of the skin where collagen is restored, elastin is affected and new skin cells are produced. For anyone who is serious about anti-ageing, it is essential to use products that reach the deeper layer where the skin is actually transformed.

So instead of waiting to get sick, rather think of ways to stay healthy and in the process build up a strong immune system. Dr. Maureen Allem, founder and medical director at the Renewal Institute shares this advise: “Prevent, prevent, prevent. Don’t wait for disease to set in. If you don’t make time for wellness today, you will have to make time for illness tomorrow.” It is important to understand that everything
Health Renewal Wellness versus Illness As we’re nearing the end of winter, many of us have been fighting some ailment and in many cases took prescribed medication and antibiotics. The truth is that even though the medication we take to get back on track may work for a period of time, it’s not a long-term solution. More broad-spectrum antibi-

T
aylor Jade Miller. I’ve always been interested and passionate about the Arts like modelling, acting and singing. If you want to succeed in this industry you not only must be blessed with the physical qualities and features required, you also need to work very hard. I have been an extra in a few TV ads, have been in two short films and have 2 IMDb Credits. I went for an Audition in Johannesburg and got accepted into the New York Film Academy with a tuition based discount which I hope to attend after my studies in New Zealand at Toi Whakaari. I started modelling when I was younger. My Mom got my brother and I into modelling doing TV commercials. I did part time work for 2 years at a trampoline park which allowed me to interact with allot of children as I really love kids. I enjoy spending time with my friends as their friendship means allot to me. Other things I enjoy are ice skating, drawing and singing. I come from a very sporty family, but I decided to focus on the Arts. I was born in Midrand and have lived here my whole life. I studied through Cambridge and I’m currently in the process of moving to Wellington New Zealand. I want to focus on my studies there and continue with my acting and modelling career.

New Zealand is well known for the following movies which were filmed there: Lord of the rings - The trilogy (2001 -2003), The Hobbit Trilogy (2012-2014), Wolverine (2009), The last Samurai (2003) just to name a few.. I’ve studied acting for a year at SAFTA and had amazing mentors like Nicho Barnard and Liesl Ahlers who is also well known in the Acting Scenery Internationally and locally. I have learnt allot from them . I was top student in 2018. Being in this Industry you get to meet people from all walks of life. I have made allot of new friends from make-up artists, models, photographers and many more. I used to lack self-confidence but since I started Acting and Modelling I’ve grown a lot and come out of my shell. It has helped me find myself and I love everything about it. Being in front of the camera makes me feel happy and confident. It is definitely something I want to pursue in my life . It is not an easy industry to get into. You get discouraged but what matters is how you pick yourself up and never give up. Your big break could be around the corner. I am a very humble person and I believe in being kind to people as you do not know what struggles they might have. I will continue to be positive and never give up. Modelling is important to me as it has helped me with my self-confidence which benefits my everyday life.

by Steve Isaacs This is a process of creating a plan to spend your money and is generally called a budget. Creating this spending plan allows you to determine in advance whether you will have enough money to do the things you need to do or would like to do. Budgeting is simply balancing your expenses with your income. A budget is a plan that helps you prioritize your spending, so you then focus your money on the things that are most important to you. It may be getting out of debt, saving up for a home or working on starting your own business. KITCHEN CORNER Bunny chow – well, it has nothing to do with bunnies as the name suggests. As far as history is concerned, Bunny chow originated from Indian workers working in South Africa’s sugar plantations. The workers would use their bread as a bowl and scoop out the inside of the bread to stuff them with various types of food items – curries, chicken, vegetables or mashed potatoes. This was a famous dish amongst the Indian laborers in those days. However, as the years progressed, the dish with its Indian origins, lost its existence in India – the land of diverse cuisines. 09 APRICOT
Health and Nutrition Benefits of
Apricots (Prunus armeniaca) are stone fruits also known as Armenian plums. Round and yellow, they look like a smaller version of a peach but share the tartness of purple plums. They’re extremely nutritious and have many health benefits, such as improved digestion and eye health. Here are 9 health and nutrition benefits of apricots. 1. Very nutritious and low in calories Apricots are very nutritious and contain many essential vitamins and minerals. Just 2 fresh apricots (70 grams) provide (1): • • • • • • • • •
Calories: 34 Carbs: 8 grams Protein: 1 gram Fat: 0.27 grams Fiber: 1.5 grams Vitamin A: 8% of the Daily Value (DV) Vitamin C: 8% of the DV Vitamin E: 4% of the DV Potassium: 4% of the DV
Furthermore, this fruit is a decent source of beta carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin, all of which are potent antioxidants that help fight free radicals in your body (2Trusted Source, 3Trusted Source, 4Trusted Source). It’s best to enjoy apricots whole and unpeeled, as the skin boasts large amounts of fiber and nutrients. Be sure to discard the stone, as it’s inedible. Summary Apricots are low in calories and fat while also an excellent source of vitamins A and C.

2. High in antioxidants Apricots are a great source of many antioxidants, including beta carotene and vitamins A, C, and E. What’s more, they’re high in a group of polyphenol antioxidants called flavonoids, which have been shown to protect against illnesses, including diabetes and heart disease (5, 6Trusted Source, 7Trusted Source). The main flavonoids in apricots are chlorogenic acids, catechins, and quercetin (5). These compounds work to neutralize free radicals, which are harmful compounds that damage your cells and cause oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is linked to obesity and many chronic diseases, such as heart disease (8Trusted Source, 9Trusted Source, 10Trusted Source). In one study in 2,375 people, researchers developed a scoring system to measure changes in levels of inflammatory markers. They found that high flavonoid and anthocyanin intakes were associated with a 42% and 73% lower inflammation score, respectively. High flavonoid intake was also tied to a 56% lower oxidative stress score (11Trusted Source). Summary Apricots contain numerous antioxidants, most notably flavonoids. They help protect your body from oxidative stress, which is linked to many chronic diseases.
3. May promote eye health Apricots boast multiple compounds that are essential for eye health, including vitamins A and E (12Trusted Source, 13Trusted Source). Vitamin A plays a vital role in preventing 48
night blindness, a disorder caused by lack of light pigments in your eyes, while vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that enters your eyes directly to protect them from free radical damage (12Trusted Source, 13Trusted Source). Meanwhile, beta carotene — which gives apricots their yellow-orange color — serves as a precursor to vitamin A, meaning that your body can convert it into this vitamin (14Trusted Source). Other important apricot carotenoids include lutein and zeaxanthin. Found in the lenses and retinas of your eyes, they safeguard against oxidative stress (5, 8Trusted Source, 12Trusted Source). Summary Apricots are an excellent source of beta carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, and vitamins C and E. These nutrients protect your eyes against damage.
4. May boost skin health Eating apricots may benefit your skin. The main causes of wrinkles and skin damage are environmental factors, such as the sun, pollution, and cigarette smoke (15Trusted Source, 16Trusted Source). What’s more, research indicates a direct link between ultraviolet (UV) light exposure, sunburns, and your risk of melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer (17Trusted Source, 18Trusted Source). Notably, you can fight some of this skin damage through a healthy diet full of antioxidants, which apricots provide. Vitamins C and E, both found in this fruit, may aid your skin. In particular, vitamin C protects against UV damage and environmental pollutants by neutralizing free radicals (19Trusted Source). Furthermore, this vitamin helps build
ROYAL ROUGE MAGAZINE | 2019 | WWW.ROYALROUGE.CO.ZA
collagen, which gives your skin strength and elasticity. Eating a diet high in vitamin C can help your skin heal from UV damage and prevent wrinkles (19Trusted Source). Beta carotene, another apricot nutrient, may protect against sunburns. In a 10week study, supplementing with beta carotene reduced sunburn risk by 20% (20Trusted Source). While you should still use sunscreen, munching on apricots may offer additional protection. Summary Apricots are naturally high in antioxidants, which guard against environmental damage from sunlight, pollution, and cigarette smoke. These compounds may benefit your skin by lowering your risk of wrinkles and sunburn.
5. May promote gut health Apricots may promote gut health. One cup (165 grams) of sliced apricots provides 3.3 grams of fiber, which is 8.6% and 13.2% of the DV for men and women, respectively (1). Apricots contain both soluble and insoluble fiber. The soluble kind dissolves in water and includes pectin, gums, and long chains of sugar called polysaccharides, while the insoluble kind doesn’t dissolve in water and includes cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin (21Trusted Source). Apricots are particularly high in soluble fiber, which is important for maintaining healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels (21Trusted Source, 22Trusted Source). Furthermore, fiber delays the movement of food through your digestive tract and feeds your beneficial gut bacteria. A healthier gut microbiome is linked to a lower risk of obesity
(23Trusted Source). While a single apricot (35 grams) holds only 0.7 grams of fiber, it’s easy to eat a few in one sitting (1). Summary Apricots are a good source of soluble fiber, which feeds your healthy gut bacteria and may boost digestive health.
6. High in potassium Apricots are high in potassium, a mineral that also serves as an electrolyte. In your body, it’s responsible for sending nerve signals and regulating muscle contractions and fluid balance (24, 25Trusted Source). Two apricots (70 grams) provide 181 mg of this mineral, which is 4% of the DV. As potassium works closely with sodium to maintain fluid balance, adequate intake may help prevent bloating and maintain healthy blood pressure (24). One analysis of 33 studies found that a diet rich in potassium significantly reduced blood pressure and resulted in a 24% lower risk of stroke (26Trusted Source). Summary Potassium aids nerve signaling, muscle contractions, and fluid balance. Eating potassium-rich foods, such as apricots, may help prevent high blood pressure and reduce your risk of stroke.
7. Very hydrating Like most fruits, apricots are naturally high in water, which can help regulate blood pressure, body temperature, joint health, and heart rate (27, 28Trusted Source, 29Trusted Source). One cup (165 grams) of sliced, fresh apricots provides almost 2/3 cup (142 ml) of water (1).

As most people don’t drink enough water, eating fresh fruit can help you reach your daily needs. If you’re dehydrated, your blood volume drops, forcing your heart to work harder to pump blood. Furthermore, staying hydrated allows your blood to circulate waste products and nutrients throughout your body (27, 30Trusted Source). What’s more, eating apricots can be an easy way to replenish both water and electrolyte loss after exercise, as this fruit offers good amounts of water and potassium (1, 27, 30Trusted Source). Summary Apricots are naturally high in water, which is important for staying hydrated. Proper hydration is vital for several aspects of health, including blood pressure and heart rate.
8. May protect your liver Some data suggests that apricots may help protect your liver from oxidative stress (31Trusted Source, 32Trusted Source). In two animal studies, rats fed alcohol and apricots had lower levels of liver enzymes and markers of inflammation than rats given alcohol but no apricots (31Trusted Source, 32Trusted Source). This research suggests that apricots may help prevent liver damage because of their naturally high antioxidant content. That said, it’s hard to know whether this fruit provides the same benefit in humans. More research is necessary. Summary In two rat studies, apricots were found to protect the liver from oxidative stress caused by the ingestion 50
of alcohol. Yet, human studies are needed.
9. Easy to add to your diet Both fresh and dried apricots make for a quick, delicious snack or an easy addition to your favorite meal. You can add them to your diet in a variety of ways, including: • stirred into trail mix or granola • eaten fresh as a snack • sliced and added to yogurt or salad • used in jams, preserves, and salsas • stewed in a slow-cooker with meat, such as chicken or beef • added to desserts like pies, cakes, and pastries As they’re sweet and tart, apricots can be used as a replacement for peaches or plums in most recipes. Summary Both fresh and dried apricots are widely available. You can eat them on their own or add them to your favorite dishes, sides, or desserts.
The bottom line
Apricots are a delicious fruit packed with vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants. They have multiple benefits, including improved eye, skin, and gut health. Fresh or dried, apricots are easy to add to yogurt, salads, and main meals. If you’re used to eating peaches and plums, apricots can be a great way to change up your routine.

4 RELATIONSHIP
WAYS YOU CAN
STRENGTHEN YOUR
RELATIONSHIP.
Eli J. Finkel, a professor at Northwestern University and the author of “The All-or-Nothing Marriage,” explains three different ways you can strengthen your relationship. We have arrived at a moment in history where the best marriages are better than the best marriages of earlier eras, while at the same time, the average marriages are getting a little bit worse. Historians divide marriage in America into three different eras. There’s sort of, from the Colonial Era until about 1850, when we industrialized, the second era is from about 1850 to 1965 or so, and then we are currently in this third era. Have you ever heard someone tell you 50% of all marriages end in divorce? That most of the marriages which do survive are unhappy? And that the divorce rate within the church is no better than the divorce rate in the world? Well, I have good news for you. None of those statements are true! In 2014, a Harvard-trained researcher named Shaunti Feldhahn, published a book entitled “The Good News About Marriage.” In it, she reported her findings from an extensive 56

study in this post at Western Journalism from a couple years back. Another article by Dr. David Stoop cites an even more shocking statistic: the divorce rate among couples who pray together on a daily basis is less than one per thousand. That makes prayer an almost fool-proof way to secure your marriage! Unfortunately, he cites another statistic: only 4% of Christian couples actually do pray... How to Get Started Here’s a few tips to help you get your partner to join with you in this vitally important practice: 1. Be hopeful. Don’t use guilt to motivate your partner to pray with you. Rather, be positive and optimistic. Invite them with a smile. If they are unwilling at first, stay cheerful. Begin praying privately that God will work in their heart, and invite them again another time.
eight year study on marriage and divorce. According to Feldhahn: The divorce rate of first time marriages is around 20-25%, and has actually been declining for decades. Most couples are happy. In fact, 80% of those who have been married for 5 years or more report being happy. The divorce rate among couples who attend church regularly is as much as 50% lower than those who don’t. You can read more about her
2. Start with a challenge. Join with your church in doing a 30-day marriage challenge or something similar. Making a commitment to do something everyday for the rest of your life can seem overwhelming. A shorter goal may be more appealing. And if your partner enjoys the experience, they may just want to continue. 3. Keep it short. People are busy these days, and trying to squeeze in an extra hour a day for prayer can be tough. So instead, ease into it, even if that means keeping it to 5 minutes a day or less. Refuse to hold your spouse hostage to long prayers. As prayer
RELATIONSHIP becomes a more regular part of your lives, the time may gradually increase, but let it happen naturally. 4. Be flexible. While it is best to schedule a regular time for prayer, and skipping days now and then is a sure fire way to break a good habit, stuff happens. Be flexible when your spouse can’t meet with you, or wants to postpone/ reschedule. A failure to be gracious in such situations will turn your prayer time together into a duty or obligation. Don’t let that happen! What Do We Pray About? Some people feel uncomfortable praying with their partner, because their partner’s prayers seem more directed at them than God. One way to avoid that is to learn how to focus on praying blessings. Don’t whisper a word that might make your partner feel judged or condemned. If issues need to be addressed, find a different time to discuss them. Keep your prayer time as loving and supportive as possible. Don’t pour out your heartaches and anxieties. Your spouse may not know how to deal with that kind of pressure. Save those for your private time with God. He can handle any burdens. Don’t come with a long laundry list of personal requests. If there are one or two urgent matters that are important to both of you, don’t ignore them. But don’t make these your focus. Rather, learn to pray blessings.
