A Word from Leadership Good Evening, It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the 14th Annual Share Your Heart Ball. As we reflect back on all that has happened over the past year a quote comes to mind: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’” – Mr. Rogers What does this have to do with childhood cancer, the cause which brings you to the Share Your Heart Ball? Childhood cancer brings out the best of people, in the worst of times. Condolences are shared, prayers are given freely, and offers of assistance are made. A new community is built around the cancer family. You are here tonight because you are a helper. We were able to help 315 cancer families in 2015. Nineteen families attended spring family camp and 78 siblings, 48 teen survivors and 34 youth survivors attended six days of joy, laughter, healing and togetherness in Idaho’s beautiful Sawtooth National Forest, not far from where we gather tonight. They were there because you help. We provided $75,000 in college scholarships to 19 childhood cancer survivors in 2015, allowing them the opportunity to pursue post-secondary education and realize their full potential. They are dreaming big because you help. Our Survivors Supporting Survivors program is a teen support group designed for cancer survivors between 13 and 18 years of age. It offers an opportunity for teens to talk about the struggles of a cancer diagnosis and also to provide education, support, resources and fun. One hundred sixty three teens attended eight meetings and events in 2015. They are surviving and thriving because you help. Thank you for being at the Share Your Heart Ball and thank you for sharing your heart and resources so we can share them with others. Thank you for being a helper! Keep Shining,

Elizabeth Lizberg Tim Tyree Jeremy Chou Executive Director Past President President

Camp Rainbow Gold Beyond a Week at Camp

IT WILL COME OF NO SURPRISE THAT A CANCER DIAGNOSIS IMPACTS THE ENTIRE FAMILY. Cancer doesn’t offer a timeline and far too rarely does it end when chemo does. Camp Rainbow Gold is unique because our mission includes supporting the entire family through difficult times and beyond. As an organization, Camp Rainbow Gold provides emotionally empowering experiences that follow a camper and their family for the rest of their lives. We believe that love is a boundless commodity but time is not. Siblings of children diagnosed with cancer experience a strong emotional and social impact. Often siblings feel overlooked as parents and other family members turn their attention to treatment and other considerations that coincide with a cancer diagnosis. Just as the child with cancer needs support, attention and care, so do their strongest supporters—their brothers and sisters. Camp Rainbow Gold Sibling Camp plays host to 80 brothers and sisters of Idaho children who have been diagnosed with cancer during some point in their lives. Over the course of a week, the attention turns to these children who also deserve the chance to have fun and make friends with other siblings who understand their unique life experience. One of these courageous and loving siblings is Kate Pekuri, recently crowned Miss Idaho Teen 2016. Kate is a shining member of our Camp Rainbow Gold family and has been attending Sibling Camp since she was 10 years old. “Camp Rainbow Gold, above all, taught me how to shine. There I received the self-validation and confidence every young person needs so badly. Sibling Camp is where I first felt the spotlight. Each camper, who may feel like they’re typically in the background at home, gets brought center stage for an entire week. This place is about feeling 100% comfortable in your own skin and celebrating exactly who you are. I have never felt such an immense amount of love as I’ve felt at Camp Rainbow Gold.” – Kate Pekuri We are made strong by love, possible by our volunteers, sustainable by you—our donors—and great by the spirit, courage and inspiration of our campers and families. We welcome you to the greatest place on earth!
