SHARE YOUR HEART BALL A BENEFIT FOR CAMP RAINBOW GOLD

Beautiful Friends of Camp Rainbow Gold, Welcome to the Share Your Heart Ball to benefit Camp Rainbow Gold on this, our AMAZING 15th Anniversary. Who knew that a little idea to raise money for kids diagnosed with cancer would blossom into a movement that has been lifted up and so lovingly embraced by the great Wood River Valley and beyond. You all have answered the call to become a part of the Camp Rainbow Gold family. Each heartfelt gift you give goes toward ensuring the future of this organization and the ability to continue to offer camps and year-round programming to the kids, their families and support networks, free of charge to them. As oncology nurse Pat Kubicki once said, “This Camp is as important to their treatment as the treatment itself.” Fifteen years ago when this magical night debuted, camp was only able to offer the oneweek summer camp, founded by the great Dr. Dave McClusky II, to Idaho’s children ages 6-17 diagnosed with cancer. Today, because of YOU, we have been able to extend not only oncology camps to many more children battling this disease, but also camps to their siblings and families, as well as year-round programs including a teen survivors group, holiday parties, volunteer leadership nights, sporting events, and college scholarships providing a platform for the kids to pursue their educational dreams. “The Future Looks Bright” indeed, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making that a reality. So raise those paddles high and proud tonight, and know you have had a significant role in the making of the Camp Rainbow Gold miracle. With love and eternal gratitude, Kris (Cronin) Nardecchia Co-Founder and Chair Share Your Heart Ball to benefit Camp Rainbow Gold

Dear Camp Rainbow Gold Friends, I want to thank you all for being here tonight to help celebrate the 15th anniversary of Share Your Heart Ball. I am not sure we ever imagined back then that we would wind up where we are today. They say it takes a village and in our case it truly did. There are so many people in this room tonight, and some that couldn’t be here, that were instrumental in helping us get off the ground. And it is the continued love and support of people like you that have sustained us over the years and will keep us looking and moving forward. Our future truly looks bright from where we stand today! Many thanks, Rob Cronin Co-Founder Share Your Heart Ball to benefit Camp Rainbow Gold

A WORD FROM LEADERSHIP Good Evening Camp Rainbow Gold Friends, It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the celebration of our 15th Anniversary Share Your Heart Ball. During our preparations for this evening, we have reflected on all the years leading up to tonight. There has been a lot of laughter, love and hard work from so many to bring Camp Rainbow Gold to where we are today. However, even more important, is the hope that tonight brings to so many. Fifteen years ago, when our co-founders Kris (Cronin) Nardecchia and Rob Cronin saw the need to found the annual Share Your Heart Ball, they couldn’t have imagined the growth that Camp Rainbow Gold would experience in that time. Back then, Camp was a program of the American Cancer Society and was a one-week oncology camp for children ages 5-17. What was then one amazing week for Idaho’s children diagnosed with cancer, is now an independent non-profit with year-round programing that not only includes, but supports the entire family. In fifteen years, we have: • Become a successful independent non-profit organization. • Expanded programing to include sibling camp and two family camps. • Split the oncology camps into two separate teen and youth camps. • Awarded close to $700,000 in college scholarships to former oncology campers to help support them as they take the next step into adulthood. • Purchased a mobile medical trailer which allows us to continue to provide a safe camp and offers the opportunity to invite more medically fragile children to join us at camp. • Created a teen support group that meets monthly to give our teen campers an opportunity to connect year round. • Provided more love, hope, and fun than we can measure. When Helen Keller said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” she captured the heart of Camp Rainbow Gold’s supporters and volunteers. It is because of you that we have been able to expand our programs and continue to dream big. When we think about the next 15 years, one thing is certain— the future looks bright! Tonight we shine for each and every one of you, Elizabeth Lizberg Jeremy Chou Executive Director President

CAMP RAINBOW GOLD ONE CAMPER'S JOURNEY A cancer diagnosis usually comes out of nowhere. It doesn’t offer a timeline and far too rarely does it end when chemo does. The impact this diagnosis has on the individual, as well as the family, is overwhelming. Children especially have a hard time understanding what is happening to them. They lose the opportunity to be a regular child and get lost in the maze of hospitals and medicine. As an organization, Camp Rainbow Gold provides emotionally empowering experiences that not only allow a child with cancer to feel like a kid again, but gives them experiences that follow them and their family for the rest of their lives. One of our past campers, Cody Stoeger, had such an experience that has followed him, and continues to follow him to this day. Cody was diagnosed with Histiocytosis at age 2 1/2 and at the time his prognosis was grim simply because there was not much known about his disease. He spent the next 2 1/2 years in and out of hospitals. He now reflects that the process was a blur, but what he does remember was the pain, the poke and most of all the tears and the effect the entire ordeal had on his family— emotionally, physically and financially. Then, as Cody puts it, enter Camp Rainbow Gold! “I was invited to Camp at the age of six. My mother, obviously reluctant, sent me on a bus to the Wood River Valley for my first year as a camper. I don't think she will ever understand the impact that decision had on me then, and now. I fell in love with how camp made me feel— normal. You see, growing up as a survivor brings its own set of unique challenges. The fear of relapse can, at times, be debilitating. Ask any survivor; in your head the regular bumps and bruises of childhood quickly become tumors and tests. To this day, I find solace in camp. I know that no matter what, I can celebrate life without fear. All because of a relentless support system that CRG creates for families across Idaho.” We are made strong by love, possible by our volunteers, sustainable by you, our donors, and great by the spirit, courage and inspiration of our campers and families. We welcome you to the greatest place on earth and because of this incredible community, the future looks bright!
