ERIC WHITACRE Grammy award-winning American choral composer Eric Whitacre conducts an ethereal evening of his spine-tingling music. Featuring the resplendent City of London Choir and including Water Night, A Boy and a Girl, Five Hebrew Love Songs and Bachianas Americanas, plus his ground-breaking Deep Field – which caused a sensation at the 2015 BBC Proms and for which the audience will be invited to activate a special mobile phone app to add to the shimmering tranquillity of his music.

TCHAIKOVSKY GALA Experience the passion, magic and drama of Tchaikovsky in a concert brimming full with some of his most celebrated works, conducted by Permanent Associate Conductor Grzegorz Nowak. Featuring: Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture, the incomparable Piano Concerto No.1, performed by the young and critically acclaimed Swiss-Canadian pianist Teo Gheorghiu, Eugene Onegin: Polonaise, exquisite extracts from the enormously popular The Nutcracker, and culminating with a thrilling 1812 Overture indoor firework finale.

SYMPHONIC SOUNDSCAPES: THE MUSIC OF

PROKOFIEV & SIBELIUS 1 Principal Associate Conductor Alexander Shelley explores the music of Prokofiev and Sibelius, and is joined by British violinist Chloë Hanslip for an outstanding performance of Sibelius’ passionate Violin Concerto. Opening and closing the concert are two contrasting Prokofiev symphonies: his First Symphony is typically classical with a lyrical style and distinct in sound from his energetic and bustling Symphony No.3.

SYMPHONIC SOUNDSCAPES: THE MUSIC OF

PROKOFIEV & SIBELIUS 2 Another exceptional concert from Alexander Shelley’s searching series, this time featuring Prokofiev’s rambunctious Piano Concerto No.5, performed by young and dynamic Ukrainian soloist Vadym Kholodenko. Closing this impressive programme is Sibelius’ energetic Symphony No.5. In his orchestral writing, Sibelius aimed to capture the whole world and with his seminal Fifth Symphony, he did just that. Not to be missed!

PERFORMS RACHMANINOV Distinguished British conductor Barry Wordsworth conducts an enthralling evening of Romantic favourites. Featuring Rachmaninov’s buoyant Piano Concerto No.1, performed here by the dynamic American pianist Natasha Paremski as well as excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s magnificent ballet Swan Lake – with its instantly recognisable themes and sweeping melodies that will have you smiling dreamily to yourself all the way home.

PINCHAS ZUKERMAN PERFORMS BEETHOVEN Principal Guest Conductor and legendary violinist Pinchas Zukerman is both conductor and soloist in this sublime, all-Beethoven programme. Including the exceptional Symphony No.7, as featured in The King’s Speech, and the exquisite Violin Concerto, portraying Beethoven at his most stirring and inspirational and offering Zukerman a fitting platform to demonstrate his virtuosic skills.

Featuring Mendelssohn’s much-loved Violin Concerto – the most evergreen of violin concertos – performed here by acclaimed French violinist Renaud Capuçon as well as Shostakovich’s magnificent and impassioned Symphony No.7, after which the audience is sure to grasp the composer’s anguished despair with Stalin.

VASILY PETRENKO CONDUCTS

VERDI’s REQUIEM World-renowned Russian conductor Vasily Petrenko takes to the podium to conduct Verdi’s momentous score. With its stirring fanfares and lyrical vocal duets, combined with magical stillness and choral splendour, Verdi’s Requiem is something of a marvel. The Orchestra, alongside the prestigious Bach Choir and a formidable line-up of soloists, performs Verdi’s tour de force, which culminates in an astounding ffff finale.

Featuring Prokofiev’s glorious Violin Concerto No.2, as well as Dvorˇák’s ‘New World’ Symphony; a sense of homesick and longing pervade with its sumptuous melodies and passionate strings, as the composer reflects on his native Bohemia whilst living in America.
