La Bastide De Moustiers - Alain Ducasse Country Collection, Provence, France

Brandenburger Hof, Berlin, Germany In the heart of Berlin lies a tranquil retreat on a quiet little avenue just steps from the Kurfürstendamm and Memorial Church.

In the Alps of High-Provence, at the foot of the village of Moustiers, the legendary restaurateur Alain Ducasse opened his first country inn:

L

a Bastide de Moustiers. Once the country house of a master potter, La Bastide has been restored and renovated to perfection, with 11 individually designed rooms and one luxury suite, each charmingly named to evoke a particular Provençal theme: Lavande. Para-gliding, kayaking and rock-climbing are just a few of the recreational options that await thrill-seekers in the surrounding countryside, and the resulting sore muscles can be soothed with a tempting menu of Ayurvedic massage treatments back at La Bastide.Yet no one could blame a guest for choosing to simply relax by the heated pool, or on a hammock in the shade of the trees, whiling away the hours with a good book or a refreshing aperitif.A unique experience with the inviting warmth of home away from home.

“A GIRLFRIENDS

TO WELLNESS

Nature gives you the body you have at 20‌ It is up to you to merit the body you have at 50 “I became aware there is something deep inside of me that is now awake and ready to participate in life. In my years of sculpting bodies, nothing has built a better booty than the integration and awareness of the pelvic floor.

I

n the course of my fitness career, I have met many women who have told me that after childbirth they felt the loss of their femininity. Why? Something has ripped apart down there and they had this empty, loose or wobbly feeling or started to experience leaking urine when they run or exercise. They complained about back pain, decreased sexuality, protruding lower belly and a saggy bum. What happened? Where did their body go? How could I help these women get back their core youthfulness and feel better about themselves? As I continued my journey I searched everywhere for the answer and realized I was looking in the wrong place. I widened my perspective and it came to me! What I needed was to explore another approach from someone with a different background. I went to one of Dr. Theresa Nesbitt’s Movement Mapping workshops. After the workshop we started talking about Pilates and the core and my frustration in helping these women with their issues. I was looking for a missing piece. She smiled and said, “Oh yes, that is the pelvic floor”. It is with much appreciation that today, Dr. Nesbitt OBGYN and I work together developing core and pelvic floor retraining programs. Until a few decades ago, the pelvic floor was hardly considered relevant. Today, fortunately, there is a lot more attention on this muscle that we can learn more about with our awareness, senses and intellect. The pelvic floor has 3 layers, they work together and are located the bottom of your inner core, inside your pelvis. We will be discussing this deepest layer closest to your internal organs and responsible for their support.

The layer that I am addressing today is the innermost layer closest to your organs. It tends to become unresponsive after injury or childbirth. The failure to correctly retrain our core leads to these issues common after pregnancy. In my years of sculpting bodies, nothing has built a better booty than the integration and awareness of the pelvic floor. It allows all muscles to attach and work in an optimal plane, so you won’t develop that saggy bum or persistent protruding belly. The pelvic floor is KEY in shaping your body from the inside out. It changes your posture and alignment by pulling everything together creating a more toned silhouette, a trimmed bum and flat tummy, as it brings everything up and in. It puts your glutes in the right place for that lifted youthful appearance. Your bum will no longer have that draggy look as it appears to fall into the back of your thighs. The pelvic floor also plays an important role for a coordinated triggering of almost all of your movements. It integrates with balance, vision and breathing. Many back, knee and foot problems can be cured through the awareness and facilitation of this muscle. Not only were women complaining about their saggy bums and belly’s; they were also changing their lifestyle in fear and shame of ‘leaking urine’ or controlling the ‘urge’ during exercise, laughing or coughing. A healthy responsive core and pelvic floor means better booty, a flatter tummy and enhanced sexuality, without the worry of ‘wetness’. We are meant to live our lives to our fullest feminine potential, with passion, self-confidence and self-worth. This is the missing link I have been looking for to help my clients!

You may already be familiar with the outer layer of the pelvic floor when you do a Kegel exercise. The outer layer is quite thin and acts as a reinforcement muscle to the upper two layers aiding in the support of the elevated organs and is more like the “ icing on the cake”, used more for sexual and sphincter function.

Embark with me on this amazing journey to the center of your core and reap the extraordinary benefits of a healthy responsive pelvic floor.

The middle layer is the transverse layer and is quite different in men and women, which we will discuss at another time.

And that is a beautiful thing!

..and when you are 50 you will have maintained the youthfulness that nature gave you at 20.

Make Your

Ret irement Last

14 | 34' ."(";*/& r rsfmagazine.com

I

f you’ve decided that now is the time to shift assets from a traditional IRA to a Roth IRA, you face an important decision. Who will you name as the beneficiary of the new Roth IRA? Your children or grandchildren may seem like the obvious choice. But if your heirs aren’t financially savvy, they could end up squandering the assets you worked so hard to accumulate. However, if you opt instead to name a trust as a beneficiary, you could possibly make your Roth IRA last for decades after you’re gone. Why invest in a Roth IRA at all? The big attraction of a Roth is that qualified distributions are exempt from federal income tax. In addition you don’t have to take required minimum distributions from a Roth beginning at age 70½, unlike a traditional IRA. Those factors can make converting a traditional IRA to a Roth very appealing. Before you make the decision to convert, however, you need to consider a number of factors, including your anticipated tax rate in retirement, your age, and whether you have funds available to pay taxes on the conversion. If you do decide to convert, you then need to name beneficiaries. While leaving the Roth to your heirs could extend its life, it could also put a significant sum of money into the hands of those unable to manage it responsibly (this may be a particular concern if you are naming young grandchildren as heirs). Naming a trust as the beneficiary of your Roth can help avoid this problem. Your designated heirs will still get the money, but the trust can delay distribution until they are of age, or even beyond. And before the distributions occur, a professional trustee can manage the assets, potentially increasing their value. While you are never required to make withdrawals from a Roth IRA, your heirs will have to take distributions (even if you place the assets into a trust). Annual payouts will be based on the life expectancy of the oldest. If you’ve leaving the Roth to a number of beneficiaries who vary widely in age, you may want to consider dividing it into more than one trust, thus extending the life of the Roth for the youngest heirs. The decisions you make regarding your Roth IRA will depend on your specific situation, and you’ll want to work with a qualified financial planner, an estate planning attorney, and your tax advisor to develop a sound plan. Leading Trading Strategies Two well known traders, David Jenyns and Stuart McPhee, discuss trading money management and how to pick stocks with the potential to do well in a bull market.

Like any leverage, do the basics, do the homework, prove yourself doing the stocks. David: We have quite a good understanding of money management and the rules. What happens when you try and apply those money management rules to leveraged products? A big question is, we’re talking about what our maximum risk is, and for example the number two percent is commonly thrown around. When you’re trading leveraged instruments, what are your thoughts on how do you calculate what your float size is? Do you look at what you are actually trading or would you look at the leveraged value of what you’re trading? Stuart: I personally think you need to look at what you’re exposed to. You could walk in and say I’ve only got $5,000 here, so I’ll just deal with that. No, when you start trading with perhaps ten to one leverage, you’re not exposed to $5,000, you’re exposed to $50,000 and that’s how the market will deal with your situation. We talk about double-edged swords, and that’s what leverage is. It provides fantastic opportunity and potential, but you cannot take that and ignore the other side. And the other side is the increased risk you’re taking. I personally believe you have to deal with the leverage, the total, and the larger of the two because that’s ultimately what your exposure is. David: Perfect. A lot of new traders are attracted by only one edge of the sword. They’re attracted by the idea of that potential huge gain but there’s also that potential for a huge loss. So really you need to understand trading money management, start with those unleveraged instruments first, and prove yourself there before moving on. The next question is how to pick a range of stocks with potential in a bull market and then the process of trading call and put options. Stuart: I look for things that are already established in up trends, and I don’t mind buying things

in highs. An alternative to that is seeing a stock trading in a range, just moving sideways over an extended period of time maybe over months. It may be moving in a narrow trading range, bouncing back and forth, not going anywhere, just going sideways and then heading for a break high from that maybe for a few weeks. So it’s clear from that the trading range, or consolidation range and then maintain that break. A lot of people look at that for an opportunity and I think that’s technically quite sound. Personally I look for the ones that have already proved themselves and demonstrated their capacity to move higher and perhaps broken from that trading range, and the longer that trading range the longer the potential up move when it does break. About options, they are a leveraged product and they can bite should you not know what you are doing. With CFDs versus options, options have so many more factors to consider, so there’s so much more to learn. Probably the biggest one that people aren’t aware of is time decay and how that can impact on the price of the option. But there are all these other things, how volatility of the underlying security affects the price and the huge pricing model they use for options. Options can be quite a complicated thing to trade. They provide a great deal of flexibility and they allow you to trade both directions, but they are not easy. Like any leverage, do the basics, do the homework, prove yourself doing the stocks. They’re the easiest. Do that for a period of time and then move on to something else. An understanding of trading money management should underpin all of this. A THING OF BEAUTY The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG is the most powerful SLK of all time. Its new AMG 5.5-liter V8 engine featuring cylinder shutoff combines the ultimate in performance with the lowest possible fuel consumption. With a peak output of 415 hp and maximum torque of 398 lb-ft, the 2012 SLK55 AMG is poised to outperform all of its direct competitors. High-performance driving is ensured thanks to the AMG sports suspension with Direct-Steer system, Torque Vectoring Brakes and 3-stage ESP®, as well as the AMG high-performance braking system. Forming part of the third-generation of the SLK launched in June, the new AMG model catches the eye at first glance: distinctive AMG light-alloy wheels, exclusive AMG body styling with AMG spoiler lip and two chrome-plated twin tailpipes at the rear complement the classic roadster proportions, while adding a distinct athletic touch. The expressive design of the 2012 SLK55 AMG is both eyecatching and unmistakable. The SLK55 AMG is the perfect embodiment of the new AMG brand claim of “Driving Performance”: in the compact high-performance

Roadster segment there is nothing to compare to its combination of tangible driving dynamics, superior sportiness, unique high-technology and low fuel consumption. The SLK55 AMG accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 155 mph. Helping to set new fuel efficiency standards for V8’s, the 5.5 liter engine combines low consumption figures with superior power delivery and the typical exhaust growl which only a large-displacement eight-cylinder engine can produce.

psi, spray-guided combustion and piezo injectors, all in conjunction with map-controlled cylinder shutoff, an all-aluminum crankcase with “spectacle” honing, four valve technology with continuous camshaft adjustment, a high compression ratio of 12.6 : 1, a stop/start system and generator management - while revving to a maximum speed of over 7,000 rpm. All of these features lead to high thermodynamic efficiency which is essential for high fuel efficiency and low exhaust emissions. Using a large-displacement, naturally-aspirated eightcylinder engine with cylinder shut-off resolves the trade-off between high output/torque delivery and low fuel consumption figures. In lline with h its “AMG “ Performance f 2015” strategy, the new V8 engine continues to reduce both the fuel consumption and emissions of new models over the next few years - while reaching new heights with the central brand claim of “Driving Performance”.

The third variant is a world premiere - the panorama roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL. This glass roof switches to light or dark as required at the press of a button. In its dark state the roof provides welcome shade and prevents the interior from heating up from the sun’s intense rays. In other words: a comfortable atmosphere at the touch of a button. The 2012 SLK55 AMG is already the third generation of the exclusively dynamic Roadster model made by AMG. It all started in 2001 with the SLK32 AMG. for Tip s

SUMMERTIME

SLIM DOWN

What’s better than Summer time in the beautiful city of San Diego? The beach is just about the hottest place to see and be seen, along with the chic pool gatherings, and daytime BBQ’s. Your bikini and board shorts are all you need to look good anywhere you go. Here are 7 tips to stay fit and healthy this Summer, and look your best, no matter where you go!

1

STAY HYDRATED: Water plays a vital role in our ability to stay thin and not bloat. With the alcohol, caffeine and warm weather, our bodies tend to lose liquids and then we retain water giving an unattractive “puffy” look. The average person doesn’t consume enough water in a normal day. So, to stay slim, try to drink one glass

40 | 34' ."(";*/& r rsfmagazine.com

of water for every alcoholic or caffeinated beverage you drink.

2

EAT PROTEIN, NOT CARBS: People tend to be more social during the Summer, and with a social life you also end up eating out more often. Eating out is not bad IF you make the right choices. For example, if you’re at a

BBQ, opt for a burger with only one side of the bun, or no bun at all. Also, hold off on the chips and dips. Munch on waterfilled fruits like watermelon, and save your appetite for the main portion of the meal.

3

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE DAYLIGHT: The sun has been setting around 8 pm, which makes for over 13 hours of daylight to get a workout into your schedule. Save the gym for the winter. Get out on the beach and play games, walk, hike Torrey Pines, or even try a new water sport like surfing! What’s better than burning calories and having fun! Take full advantage of the summer hours.

4

ENJOY THE SOCIAL SCENE…IN MODERATION: There’s nothing better than a cold beer or a Cosmo by the pool, but if you over do it, you could end up with some unwanted summer LBs! Alcohol is loaded with empty calories, sugar, carbs, and fat so try to keep drinking to a minimum. Choose 1-2 days that you allow yourself to splurge and try to be good the rest of the week. Summer is a marathon not a sprint. You have all summer to get your fill of drinks, try to spread it out. Drinking less will also prevent hangovers and allow you to enjoy more summer days! When you do drink, grab light beers, or mixers that are low in sugars and calories. My personal favorite is a Vodka Soda Water, with a splash of pineapple and a lime!

5

TAKE SUPPLEMENTS: If your body is not quite “Summer Body” ready yet, there are a few supplements you can take to expedite weight loss. The top 2 that I recommend are:

1) EFA Oil- Essential Fatty Acids. You can get them from any health food store. These will help you burn fat (especially around the mid-section) and also give you energy. 2) Probiotics- These are good bacteria that belong in your intestines. These will help you absorb your food better and also help to eliminate waste product, leaving you feeling energized and slim!

6

ENJOY CAT NAPS: If you can find time on the weekends or during the week to give yourself a 20 minute nap, I highly recommend it. Sleep recharges our system and keeps us going. Sleep also plays an important role in staying thin. Keep a small towel or blanket in your car, so if the opportunity arises, you can take advantage of a nice shady spot in the park or at the beach to get some zzz’s.

7

APPRECIATE OUR PERFECT WEATHER: The power of appreciation is huge and can really increase positivity in your life. San Diego is the best city to live in, so make sure you appreciate every day this Summer, it only comes around once a year! Soak up the sun and keep yourself busy with fun activities!

Now with these 7 Simple Tips To Summertime Slim Down, you can have the body you want while living the healthiest lifestyle possible. Enjoy! Best of Health, Liz Lieberman

spouse may not align with those of your children from your first marriage, which can lead to conflict. To avoid problems–and a possible court case–think about appointing an independent third party to act as executor.

Second Marriages and

Estate Planning Second marriages are increasingly common these days. With more than 1 million divorces in the United States each year, almost half of all families are now “blended.” And these families often have unique financial issues, some of which may only come to light after one spouse passes away. To avoid potential problems, you and your current spouse should look at the following five areas: Beneficiary designations. Updating your will to reflect your new marriage is important. But you also need to look at other areas where you may have designated your former spouse as a primary beneficiary, including life insurance policies, trusts, retirement accounts, and annuities. Depending on your specific family situation, updating these designations could be complicated, particularly if you have children. In many cases, revising beneficiary designations should be done as part of your coordinated estate planning. Tax-free gifts. You may be able to address the needs of your children from your first marriage through a series of

tax-free gifts; currently you may give up to $13,000 per year to as many recipients as you like. If you’re young, this may be a good way to begin transitioning assets to your children (or possibly your grandchildren). If all goes as planned, you could transfer a significant amount of money in this way, but an unexpected or early death could cause problems with this strategy. Estate executors. Many people choose a spouse or child to act as the executor of their estate. In straightforward situations, this may be a fine approach, but when family dynamics are more complicated, it might not be such a good idea. The interests of a second

Power of attorney. Use caution when appointing a power of attorney. While naming a person to make decisions for you when you are unable to do so yourself is a good planning tool, this can cause problems if the individual misuses their authority. For example, they may decide to transfer assets to a trust or make tax-free gifts, even if this is not what you really wanted. To avoid intra-family conflict, consider naming a person outside your immediate family to take over these responsibilities. Trusts. Trusts can be an excellent way to sort out complex financial issues for blended families, but if they’re not structured properly, they can cause problems. For example, a trust could divide assets between your surviving spouse and children from a first marriage, but give the spouse access to the trust income, only allowing the children to receive assets after the spouse dies. This type of arrangement can cause disagreements, since the spouse may favor strategies that create current income while the children prefer emphasizing asset appreciation. There are many joys that can come with being part of a blended family. But no matter how happy your family is today, it pays to think about the future. A comprehensive estate planning strategy will address your family’s unique needs and help reduce the likelihood of conflict after you’re gone.
