R a ng s i t University’s missions has been to continually develop the quality of education through research and development in order to broaden knowledge and s t im u l ate innovation that meet and serve the needs of society and the nation. T o wa r d s attaining this mission and to foster an environment of learning and sharing, Rangsit University is organising the RSU National and International Research Conference on the 29th of April 2016 and the theme for this even is “Innovation for Competitiveness and Quality of Life”. U n de r the aegis of this conference, the Faculty of Art and Design is organising i t s 4 t h International Design Symposium entitled “Art & Design for Life” in c o ll a b oration with the Art & Design Dean Council of Thailand, and a worldwide c o mm i t tee and participation from Thailand, China, HongKong, United Stated of America, the Netherlands etc. The Faculty of Art & Design at Rangsit University would like to invite designers, artists, researchers, thinkers, innovators and makers from various disciplines to join us and s h ar e their research, processes, art projects, views and opinions on how design plays an important role in the quality of life. The way in which we live varies a lot depending on the our economy, our cultures shaping our views of this world, socio-economic conditions, market trends etc. All of these, which vary over time, become the foundations for the creative processes of design.

The research question, analysis and synthesis for the design process not only has a goal, of coming up with an innovative solution in the form of a concrete object in response to a given problem, but also to develop an inner sense and perception of everything around us in an abstract way. Complexity and diversity is the key to the design process and it primarily gets i n sp i r ed by the contexts within which we live and how we perceive it in a creative manner. B o un d a ries between disciplines or forms of expression are fast disappearing. Re pre s entational media like painting, photography, graphic design, multimedia, m i xe d media are seamlessly being integrated with works that that are more re la t e d to our physical part of living such as fashion design, product design, furniture design, interior design etc. and they in turn are related to architecture and urban planning of the cities and towns we inhabit. Considering the rich and diverse complexity of relationships between innovative d e si g n and the quality of life, the International Design Symposium will be a platform for artists, designers, thinkers, innovators, and faculty members from various disciplines to further explore and share these research topics.

Objective To develop the quality of creative design works. To provide the knowledge and share progress of creative design works. To stimulate and create an environment for knowledge sharing and interaction.

Dear distinguished keynote speaker, Mr. Cui Yong , faculty members, students, and distinguished guests of honor. The Fourth Rangsit University International Design Symposium, “Work in Progress,” this year is held under Rangsit University International Design Main Symposium. It is our hope that this symposium fosters an academic collaboration among these international institutions, as well as serves as a venue for researchers, designers, artists, thinkers, inventors, and makers from all disciplines to share their ongoing work. D e si g n is a powerful force that influences all aspects of life. It shapes our perception of the world and guides our behavior. It forms our culture and prompts education. In the words of Albert Einstein, “The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing… Imagination is the highest f o rm of research. Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions. T h is year’s symposium focuses on interior design, as we knew, interior design i s i n direct contact with human beings, mediating between man and a rch i tecture. Interior field is a very intricate design, it is an art of creating an experience for human beings. Interior space nourished both physical and spiritual aspect, in order to create good design, designers need to have empathy of the others in the design thinking and process, it needs to understand consumers and understand business aspect as well as collaborate in teams with people from various fields.

Today we are here to celebrate the work of Mr. Cui Yong, the founder and design d i re c tor at Society Particular, whose design process is based on the critical thinking of people from various field and with an in depth research to improve social lifestyles. I do hope that this sharing will be an inspiration to all of us to continue our works in progress. Please join us in welcoming Mr. Cui Yong Thank you very much. Associate Professor Pisprapai Sarasalin Dean of The Faculty of Art and Design, Rangsit University, Thailand

The Formal Research chain necklaces (2015) Made at the beginning of the project is the starting point of the next developmemts: one-off edition hand-sculpted bracelets. The groups of bracelets were crafted with the follwing keywords in mind dividing / sequencing / sizing / layering. During the sculpting process, the shapes were transformed by manipulation and time. The sculpted results were plated directly with silver on the outer layer. They were not edited and are presented as they turned out. The tryouts are the end-products, and vice versa. In other words, this is an installation art to help phenomenologically understand the nature of space by disclosing new space unexpectedly and coincidentally built through a user's participations to multiple physical presentation space. This project is a research on the spatial design based on the concept of the phenomenological space which produces new perceptual experiences induced by subjective interrelations between a private individual and space.

After the earthquake struck in Chiang Rai, the main school building of Phan Subdistrict Administrative Organization School was damaged and in need of restoration. Other buildings were used as temporary classrooms but the space are still insufficient to accommodate students from every level. The school was in urgent need of a functional school building with three classrooms. Walllasia took on the responsibility of the design in 6 x 9 meters-space Temporary classroom following the ‘Por Dee Por Dee’ (sufficiency) concept emphasizing the efficient use of materials in order to reduce as much construction waste as possible. The building were designed to be both cost-effective as well as fast and e-asy to construct. The light and airy wall structure can easily be dismantled and adjusted into the school’s cafeteria after the construction of the main building is completed. Furthermore, sections of the wall in each classroom were designed to function as a built-in bookshelf, optimize spatial functionality within the limited space. The wooden laths were used with the rest of the wall to enhance ventilation and provide a sense of visual connectivity with the outside environment.

Knowledge gains from education in term of formal, non-formal and informal education. Self-direct learning is self searching information which is the important factor for the process of fabrication and innovation. It creates a change for all walks of life in the globe and it can enhance better life condition. Life consists of body, soul and consciousness. People will be happy when all of the elements are balanced. Losing balance in life causes depression. To sustain equilibrium for this sculpture, the signal must show that every problem in life can be handled. If the conscious mind is entrenched, it makes everything balanced, stable and calm. The cabinet from Wat Cherngwai has been studied by genneration of artists for its detail and skill of execution. Therefore it was these detials I wished to bring out in a large scale video art. As the technology has changed considerably over past decade, the process needed updatingto be displayed on more modern equipment. This led to an opportunity to re-articulate the work at a higher resolution that befor, and also re-evalute the way a contemporary general audience might appreciated it. The idea is not to update Thai traditional motifs, but to display the great ones with modern technology. And to add somthing to bring attention to it and heighten its qualities

The idea of the Animaion I created created mainly came from scout camping. Everyone in in the team has to finish each task all together as good teamwork. The journey might be hard to get through, but in the end, everyone will be happy for their success. They will be Heroes for the kids in next generation. This could be implied to how life is. Life is not a smooth journey, we need a good theamwork to become successful person. The Animation concept is to create it in the children book style by not focusing muck on the movement of the charactors, scence design of the whole story. As if the audience are reading a children book with little movement.

Humanity - What does it mean for my life? Human beings always assign value to success, but real humanity is framed an dragged around by society. We have closed our eyes until we don’t know who we really are anymore. We forget to put meaning in how we move our lives and the time we have. If life is considered long, it is long. If it’s short, it’s considered short. We haven’t seen a way out and we are trapped by our delusion. It’s a dimension where humans cheat each other until the have forgotten that the most important thing is humanity.

1. Viroon Chambang Episode.

H e makes himself invisible so that no one can see him. Then he sets out to kill all of the monkey troops, who die like falling leaves. Pipek is one of the monkeys who suggests to Rama to use his arrows to shoot Nilphahu’s horse. This horse now belongs to Viroon Chambang, who escapes and hides himself in a bubble. Finally he is killed by Hanuman. The design uses dark tones to give a mystical feeling. Death and power make the composition sending power to the front. It emphasizes Viroon Chambang’s green body, strong red eyes and the surroundings have a dark color as well. 2. Hanuman makes Longkar City Sleep

In this episode the designer used blue and purple tones to create a metaphor. There is some red on Hanuman’s body while in the pose of preparing to kill Tossakan while he sleeps. Hanuman wants to be make Tossakan’s shameful by put the hair and sticking it to his forehead. It is a spell that no weapon or other magic can fix. Only by hitting his head three times can end the spell. 3. Nasoon Battle

This is the episode when Tossakan’s aura is diminished. He invites his brother Tapnasoon, who has a different mother, to help. With some magic he makes himself very large and throws his body on the land. He opens his mouth wide, all the way into the sky. Then uses his arms to gather the monkeys and puts them all in his mouth. The design emphasizes the size of his mouth to show the chaos. Using a black-grey tone gives the massacre a dark mood. All of the monkeys get magic from Shiva so that if they die, the wind or dew drops can make them come to life again.

The Guanyin Pavilion that design by Studiomake represents the Contemporary Chinese design together with the Thai craftsmanship and construction technique. The architectural component is the combination of line, shape and form that attract the view from the outside, but for the interior space the transparent glass reflected the shade and shadow of the brick column from the front elevation and the bamboo tree from the opposite side. The tensile modular ceiling system make the space more simply when the light lit up the whole ceiling as one piece. So the point of departure for the exhibition furniture system design that assigned to the student was to respect the existing space and atmosphere. From the functional requirement from the exhibitor we only need to type of furniture, the vertical panel board and the horizontal table. The concept is translate from the contemporary form and shape of Chinese architectural and interior architectural component.
