Letter from the President Welcome to another exciting season of Hillcat golf! As Oklahoma’s fastest growing regional university during the past 10 years, RSU has enjoyed dynamic growth across its entire enterprise, such as: • Increasing its student population by 60 percent while still maintaining a personalized attention to service that’s become RSU’s hallmark; • Adding new academic programs to meet the needs of Oklahoma’s business and industry; • Constructing two student apartment communities to provide the Tulsa metropolitan area’s only residential, public university; • Expanding and remodeling academic facilities to provide students with up-to-date academic resources; and • Developing strong ties with the communities we serve in order to fulfill our mission of education and service. RSU’s rapid growth also extends to our intercollegiate athletics, which are a relatively new addition after being reintroduced to campus in 2005. In only a few short years, our Hillcat teams have become a vital component of the university’s DNA providing an infectious campus spirit and a strong connection to the community. The university has invested in athletic facilities, including the new baseball/softball complex, Bushyhead Fieldhouse renovations, expansion and turf installation at Soldier Field and construction of soccer and cross country facilities on campus. We appreciate our entire student body for their support of these campus initiatives, including the student fees that funded the recently completed $4 million renovations of the soccer facilities and baseball/softball complex. Their support signals a strong vote of confidence in our athletic programs, but also represents their investment in the quality of life at Rogers State. As the RSU begins its first year as a NCAA Division II candidate, this season marks our last as a member of the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). We have appreciated the high priority these two organizations have placed on promoting healthy values, developing strong character traits, and encouraging academic achievement among all student-athletes. These are core values for RSU’s programs, and we work daily to impress them upon our student-athletes. We appreciate your interest in RSU athletics, and we look forward to another great season on the pitch. Go Hillcats! Dr. Larry Rice

President Rogers State University

Letter from the Athletic Director Greetings from Rogers State and welcome to the fourth year of Hillcat Golf. Last season marked a first in the two programs’ young history as the men’s team ranked in the NAIA Top 25 Preseason Coaches’ Poll at No. 18. The RSU women received votes in the coaches’ poll for the first time and won its first ever team tournament title. Coach Lynn Blevins has been instrumental in the development of the program since its inception in 2009. The success the programs have achieved has been impressive and this season should continue in that success. This all wouldn’t be possible without the partnerships with local golf courses, golf professionals and community sponsors like you. Thank you for your support and interest of these fledging golf programs.

About RSU

u RSU offers a wide variety of bachelor’s and associate degrees.

Rogers State University: A Great Oklahoma Higher Education Success Story Rogers State University holds a historic position in the annals of Oklahoma higher education. Since RSU was accredited as a four-year university in 2000, enrollment has increased by more than 75 percent, earning RSU the title of Oklahoma's fastest-growing regional university A dynamic, progressive university with more than 4,600 students, RSU is widely recognized for its high-quality academic programs, distance learning options and high-technology learning environment. RSU is the only public four-year, residential university in the Tulsa metropolitan area. RSU offers a wide variety of bachelor's and associate degrees. Innovative new bachelor's degrees include applied technology, environmental conservation, military history, sport management and game development. Many students from northeast Oklahoma who plan to attend medical school complete their undergraduate studies through RSU's program in medical/molecular biology. And RSU enjoys a statewide reputation for academic excellence in its nursing program.

Distinguished Academic Achievements RSU received continued accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools without further required evaluation for 10 years - a rarity in higher education in Oklahoma and a major accomplishment achieved by few universities. This is truly a testament to the high academic quality of RSU. RSU participates in The Washington Center Internship Program, a nationally recognized program placing students with private, public, and nonprofit organizations in Washington, D.C. Students participating in the semester-long internship earn college credit while they gain "real world" experience within their field of interest and interact with influential leaders and policymakers. RSU is one of only three universities in Oklahoma to participate in this prestigious program.

2

About RSU Most RSU faculty members hold doctoral degrees or the highest degrees available in their fields from esteemed institutions across the nation, including Princeton University, Duke University and the University of Oklahoma. The university’s Honors Program provides an atmosphere where scholars can challenge themselves academically to maximize their college experience through specialized courses, student/faculty joint research projects, and a strong emphasis on service learning in the community. The President's Leadership Class (PLC), a four-year scholarship program that fosters personal and professional development, was designed for RSU students who have demonstrated leadership abilities. RSU also offers study abroad programs in Italy and Wales through the University's Studies-at-Large Program. The international study programs provide students with opportunities to see the world, learn about other cultures, and enrich their educational experience.

Growth in Learning Facilities The Centennial Center, which opened in 2009, has become the centerpiece of the main campus in Claremore. This two-level, 50,000-square-foot facility combines student development programs under one roof, serves as a central location for students to study and socialize and provides a focal point for the RSU campus in Claremore. The facility also offers ballrooms, conference centers, and meeting rooms for the community. A major expansion and renovation of Baird Hall on the Claremore campus was completed in 2010. The new Baird Hall has doubled in size and contains many of the leading-edge features associated with higher learning today, including classrooms equipped with Smart Boards, a performance studio, an art gallery and an outdoor classroom for learning outdoors on sunny days. RSU opened in September 2011 a new student apartment community that doubles the number of students living on the main campus in Claremore. The $11.5 million project accommodates up to 255 students in a three-level facility, located across the street from the present university apartments. The new 87,118-square-foot complex is located just west of Soldier Field. Stratton Taylor Library, which opened in 2004, features distinguished collections, wireless Internet, study areas, reading rooms, computer stations and classrooms. u Baird Hall features a performance studio, an art gallery and an outdoor classroom for learning on sunny days.

About RSU

u RSU is Oklahoma’s fastest growing regional university.

A Brief History of RSU RSU was founded in 1909 as Eastern University Preparatory School in Claremore. The school prepared the daughters and sons of area residents to attend college. Historic Preparatory Hall, known for its iconic gold dome, was the first building on the school's campus. However, the school closed only a few years after it opened. Taking its place was the storied Oklahoma Military Academy (OMA), which operated on the Hill from 1919 to 1971. Known as the “West Point of the Southwest, OMA has an extensive register of graduates who became great leaders, both in military and civilian life. More than 2,500 OMA graduates served in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. More than 100 graduates gave their lives in service to their country. In 1971, OMA closed and Claremore Junior College opened on the Hill, serving more than 400 students. The junior college grew rapidly in the 1970s, and by the time it was renamed Rogers State College in 1982, the institution boasted a variety of associate degree programs, distance learning capabilities, a new radio and television station and intercollegiate athletics. In 1999, the Oklahoma Legislature renamed the institution Rogers State University and charged it with seeking accreditation as a four-year university. Accreditation at the baccalaureate level was granted in 2000. Today, RSU is one of Oklahoma's fastest-growing universities, offering a wide variety of bachelor's degree programs to more than 4,600 students on campuses in Claremore, Bartlesville, Pryor and online.

Hillcat LIFE Programs

u The core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship are addressed in the Champions of Character program.

Academic Development The Rogers State University Student-Athlete Academic Development (SAAD) program is designed to support Hillcat athletes as they strive for success in the classroom and reach their educational and career goals. The program provides academic support such as advisement, subject tutors, and learning groups for each RSU student-athlete. Study sessions are designed specifically for each athletic program, and student-athletes are given the opportunity to work with tutors trained in their particular area of academic study. The goal of the SAAD program is to help all athletes grow into responsible adults as they become upperclassmen and take initiative to be personally responsible for their education and their future. The Student-Athlete Academic Development program, led by Dr. Brian Andrews, is there every step of the way for all athletes, to ensure they are pursuing a degree that will support their personal goals and prepare them for life after college.

Hillcat LIFE Programs The Hillcat LIFE programs are designed to promote student-athletes’ success off the field or court. Each year, RSU introduces a variety of programs to enrich the college experience of its student-athletes, helping them avoid potential pitfalls and giving them information useful when making important life decisions. The following are some examples of Hillcat LIFE programs: Etiquette training: Student-athletes are instructed on proper dining habits, dating manners and courtesies. Each athlete is given a demonstration on the proper etiquette at formal meals. Drug and Alcohol Counseling: Student-athletes are made aware of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. They are given examples of athletes with promising futures who failed to reach their potential due to drug/alcohol abuse. “It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time…” Seminar: This presentation attempts to enlighten student-athletes about the existing legal realities associated with various acts they likely deem benign and provokes introspection that will lead to more careful decision making.

5

Hillcat LIFE Programs Nutrition Counseling: A nutritionist meets with student-athletes to discuss healthy meal choices and life styles. Athletes are given an overview of different types of foods and how they affect the human body. Dangers of Gambling: Student-athletes are warned about the dangers of gambling addictions and also are warned against gambling on collegiate athletics, which is a violation of NAIA and NCAA rules. RSU athletics continues to expand its programs in order to provide a well-rounded education for all Hillcat athletes.

Champions of Character The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Champions of Character program is designed to instill an understanding of character values in sport, and provide practical tools for student-athletes, coaches and parents to use in modeling exemplary character traits. Launched by the NAIA in 2000, the Champions of Character program addresses character issues more comprehensively than any other national program for youth. The program currently reaches hundreds of thousands of students on nearly 300 college and university campuses in North America and extends into their surrounding communities. The NAIA has been informally teaching character development through athletics for decades. The core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship are addressed comprehensively in the Champions of Character program. The NAIA Champions of Character program is an educational outreach initiative that emphasizes the tenets of character and integrity, not only for NAIA college students, but for younger students, coaches and parents in our communities. Coaches, parents, administrators and community partners all have a role in developing students of character. The NAIA Champions of Character program brings them training, guidelines and behavior models to create positive environments that promote personal growth and fun sport activity.

u Rogers State has annually been recognized as a NAIA Champion of Character since the inception of athletics.

Lynn Blevins - Head Men’s & Women’s Golf Coach Former Southeastern Conference and Big 10 Conference Coach of the Year Lynn Blevins enters his fourth season as the head men’s and women’s golf coach at Rogers State University.

Blevins began his coaching career at his alma mater where he led the University of Oklahoma men’s golf program from 1979-81. He spent the next seven years at the University of Florida, directing the Gators to a third place finish at the 1985 NCAA Championship after claiming the SEC title earlier that season. Blevins moved to the University of Iowa in 1990 and won a Big 10 Championship in 1992.

Blevins brings 15 years of head coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level to the Hillcats. He guided the men’s golf programs at the University of Oklahoma, the University of Florida and the University of Iowa over a 15-year period before transitioning to the private golf business sector in 1994. He led the Gators to an SEC Championship in 1985 and spurred the Hawkeyes to a Big 10 crown in 1992. Now, after a 15-year hiatus, Blevins returns to his coaching roots to develop a brand new program.

“I’m taking this job to win championships,” Blevins said. “I’m looking for players that are good students, who want to be here and who are committed to getting better because the expectations are going to be really high.” In just three years, Blevins has developed the Hillcats into a nationally recognized program as his men’s team earned NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll recognition ranking No. 18 in the preseason and receiving votes in the final poll of 2012. He also had his first golfer earn AllSooner Athletic Conference team honors in 2012 as Bradley Phelps finished in the top five of the SAC Championship. That same year the RSU women finished the season receiving votes while also capturing the program’s first team title.

“I’m really excited to get back into coaching,” Blevins said upon his announcement. “It’s a rare opportunity to start a new program and put a footprint or a signature on that program. I’m really looking forward to the challenge.” Blevins served as the Director of Golf Operations at Scissortail Golf Club in Verdigris, Okla. from 2008-2010. As President and CEO of the Buffalo Golf Group, Inc., Blevins has overseen the construction, start up and management operation of five golf courses over the past 15 years.

Men’s Golf Outlook The building of a program requires steps to be taken, some small and others larger. Last season Rogers State took one of those steps, a step into the NAIA Men’s Golf Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. This year coach Lynn Blevins looks to take another step this time into the national tournament.

Preston Bartley is back for his senior season after transferring to RSU prior to the 2011-12 campaign. Last season the Copan, Okla. native won the MACU Tournament to open the season followed by a top 10 individual finish at the 13th Annual NSU Golf Classic. Bartley struggled at times late in the fall and early spring as he played in just five tournaments shooting an average score of 4.79 above par over the course of the season.

“We just keep getting better and taking the next step as a growing program,” Blevins spoke of the fourth year Hillcats’ growth as a program. “I’m really excited and I think we can have a real impact and have a legitimate shot at going to the national tournament.”

“Hopefully Preston will step up and play like he’s capable of all year and be focused and realize that this is kind of the last hurrah and will step it up a little,” Blevins said of the Oklahoma Wesleyan transfer in his second year with the Cats.

In the school’s final year in the NAIA the Hillcats must still face some of the top teams in the nation week in and week out with the area full of great teams. Blevins believes his men’s golf team can make a really strong push with a mixture of talented returns and exciting newcomers.

Trevor Williams and Mark Healy return as well after redshirting last season.

Newcomers Six freshmen join the Hillcats this season and look to make the RSU freshman class one of the top ten in the nation for the second consecutive year. Blevins believes this year’s group of newcomers has the potential.

Returners Tanner Owens returns for his final season on the Hill and will be a leader for coach Blevins’ squad.

“We have a slew of freshman and they’re all good. They all have the potential to make an impact not just with our team but in our conference right away,” the Hillcats head coach said of the six rookies. “If some of these kids blossom the way I think they can I think we’ll surprise a lot of people.”

“Tanner is a senior that has a chance, I think, to be one of the top players in the conference this year if he plays to his ability,” Blevins said of the four-year Hillcat. “He worked at the Patriot Golf Club this summer and had the opportunity to really work on his golf game. Probably the best summer he’s had as far as that and I’m looking for a lot out of Tanner in leadership.”

Blevins understands there will be growing pains for the young players, but is already encouraged with the preseason efforts.

Owens led the team a year ago with an average score of 74.70 an average of just 3.44 above par including a low round of 68. In 27 rounds of golf, the Ft. Gibson, Okla. native shot par or better seven times. He claimed the second individual medalist honors of his Hillcat career winning the Sen. Eddie Lucio Invitational with scores of 72-70 and drilling a 30foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole.

“The competition already is making them so much better. We haven’t been this deep on the men’s side and practice is more intense and the competition is more intense which will only make us better.”

Men’s Golf Outlook

u Senior Tanner Owens will look to lead the Hillcats in the 2012-13 campaign.

Hagen Barmasse, Thomas Reilly, Garrett Fey and Taylor Schoppa come from south of the Red River with high accolades. Schoppa helped Houston’s Clements High School to a state tournament appearance and Reilly captured all-district and was club champion at Willow Fork Country Club. Fey qualified for the Texas regional four times and won district twice at Mesquite’s John Horn High School. Barmasse defeated Reilly to win the TJGT I10 Junior Championship in December of 2011.

Schedule

The lone Oklahoman in Blevins’ signing class is Jenks’ Aaron Davis. Last year as a senior Davis helped the Trojans to a third place finish at the 6A State Championship. He finished third individually at the 6A State Regional.

The Sooner Athletic Conference featured five teams in the top 25 and the Hillcats sat just outside of the rankings most of the year.

The 2012-13 schedule includes a mixture of talented teams and impressive courses including TPC-San Antonio and TPC Four Seasons. “We had the number one and two teams in the nation last year in the NAIA here locally and we see them often. We’re again playing a really good schedule and playing some really good courses,” the Hillcats head coach said.

Blevins discussed the battle the upcoming season will be, “The competition will make us better, and the schedule is very tough against stiff competition on really good golf courses.”

Tyler Wyant joins the Cats from Caney Valley (Kan.) High School where he was a Tri-Valley League Champion and regional medalist honors. Wyant was named Regional Player of the Year as both a junior and senior.

2011-2012 Men’s Golf Season in Review The Rogers State men’s golf team made yet another step in the program growth in the 2011-12 season as head coach Lynn Blevins’ squad received its first ever national ranking. The NAIA Coaches’ Preseason Poll ranked the Cats at No. 18 prior to the spring season after RSU opened the fall season with a tournament championship at the MACU Tournament. The team title at the MACU Tournament at Earlywine Golf Club in Oklahoma City was fueled by Preston Bartley’s second place finish. Teammate Tanner Owens carded a two-under, 68 on the second day to finish third at the 6,505 yard, par 70 course. Senior Bo Sarratt finished with a one-under, 69 on day two, finishing tied for fifth. Two weeks later the Hillcats finished seventh among the field of 19 teams at the NSU Classic at Muskogee County Club. Bartley shot an impressive six-under par 65, the lowest under par round in Hillcat Men’s golf history to date. To close out the fall schedule, RSU took part in the Northwood Fall Shootout at Tangle Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Hill, Texas and the Oklahoma Christian Fall Invitational at River Oaks Golf Club in Edmond, Okla. The Hillcats claimed third place at the Northwood Fall Shootout led by Owens who posted a three-round 216 total for a fifth place finish. At the OC Fall Invitational, Bradley Phelps led the Cats tying for ninth as RSU moved from a three-way tie for eighth place to a sixth place finish in the 13-team field. The spring semester began with a second place finish at the Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. Invitational in South Padre led by a playoff win by junior Tanner Owens. The following week Blevins’ boys faltered at the San Antonio Shoot-Out at The Bandit Golf Club in New Braunfels, Texas. Just one Hillcat golfer was able to shoot within two-under par in the three round tournament as RSU finished 11th in the 12 team field. Phelps helped the Cats rebound nicely the next week at the Wyndham Spring Invitational at TPC Four Season in Las Colinas, Texas finishing with a fifth place team total of 898. RSU finished just eight strokes behind fourth place Texas Wesleyan as then No.1-ranked Oklahoma Christian claimed the team title followed by then No. 3ranked Oklahoma City and Southern Nazarene in the Sooner Athletic Conference packed top 5. Phelps led the Cats finishing tied for seventh as he was the only RSU golfer to shoot even par for a round.

u Coach Lynn Blevins watched Tanner Ownes claim the second medalist honor of his career at the Sen. Eddie Lucio Invitational.

2011-2012 Men’s Golf Season in Review

u The Hillcats walked into the NAIA Top 25 Preseason Coaches’ Poll for the first time in program history in the 2011-12 season.

The UST Mamiya Texas Intercollegiate at Hawks Creek Golf Course in Westworth Village, Texas was a case of what-if for the Hillcats. RSU sat five strokes out of second place and two strokes behind sixth after the opening round but the course proved to best most of the 16 team field, as just four squads improved upon their opening round, scores in day two as the Cats finished ninth. Tanner Owens tied for 16th to lead RSU as the Fort Gibson, Okla. native tallied a pair of par-72 rounds. Josh Bernard tied for 26th for RSU after following an even-par first round with a two-over par 74 in the second round.

RSU traveled to Lubbock, Texas for the 2012 Sooner Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championship at The Rawls Course as the Hillcats finished sixth after sitting in seventh place and 13 strokes behind Oklahoma Baptist entering the final day. RSU shot 20 strokes better than the Bison to finish seven strokes ahead of then No. 25 ranked OBU. Senior Mariano Newston shot a three-under par 69 in his final collegiate round to tie for 22nd. Bradley Phelps was the star of the SAC Tournament for the Hillcats as the freshman finished fourth in the medalist honors race with a four-under par 212 in the three-round event. The Colleyville, Texas native earned all-conference honors with his top five finish becoming the first Hillcat golfer to earn such distinction.

Midway through the spring season RSU moved from No. 18 in the NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll down to No. 23 as the SAC placed five teams in the poll. Rainy weather proved to be king in the Hillcats next two tournaments. At the Midwestern State Invitational in Wichita Falls, Texas at Wichita Falls Country Club the Hillcats finished seventh tying with NCAA Division II schools Arkansas-Fort Smith, Nebraska-Omaha and Northeastern State (Okla.). Phelps and Mariano Newston each shot 76 on the par-71, 6,822 yard course to tie for 21st.

After 56 consecutive ratings, the Hillcats finished rated No. 31 in the NAIA according to Golfstat, marking the best finish in program history. The Hillcat freshman classed ranked No. 8 in the NAIA and was top amongst SAC schools with two golfers in the RSU top five averaging 75.60 score. In the NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll the Hillcats would rank No. 27 if you extended the poll past the top 25 as RSU received 64 votes.

Fifteen NCAA Division II teams crowded the 17-team field at the Central Oklahoma Invitational at Gaillardia Country Club in Oklahoma City as the Hillcats finished 15th in the rain-shortened event. Bo Sarratt led all Hillcat golfers finishing tied for 39th place as he was the lone RSU golfer to not shoot in the 80’s in the shortened, tworound event.

Women’s Golf Outlook Newcomers

Entering the fourth season of the program’s existence, expectations are high for the Rogers State women’s golf team. Coach Lynn Blevins is the biggest believer that the 2012-13 season will be the best in program history.

Five freshmen and a redshirt sophomore will come to the Hill giving the Hillcats its most depth in four years. “We have a lot more depth and we’ll be a lot more competitive because of that depth. All of our girls are capable of shooting and breaking 80,” explained Blevins of this year’s team. Four of the newcomers are natives of the Sooner State while two come to Claremore from south of the Red River.

Returners RSU returns the top two golfers from the 2011-12 season with Whitney Hocutt and Cecilie Nordahl back on the Hill. Hocutt will look to improve upon a sophomore season that saw her tally the best finish percentage for the Hillcats at 70.8 percent of her scores in the top five. The sophomore shot an average score of 81.67 as she averaged 10.06 over par.

Kelsey Stuever joins RSU after an all-state season for Washington (Okla.) High School as she finished with medalist honors three times. Her senior season she was also named Athlete of the Week by the Daily Oklahoman on her way to finishing in the top 10 at the state tournament.

The native of Claremore, Okla. is recovering from an offseason ankle injury but appears ready for the upcoming season.

A native of Amarillo, Texas, Chelsea Burney comes to the Cats after earning team MVP honors as a junior and senior at Randall High School, shooting a school record 74 and finishing first individually in the district her senior year.

“Whitney is coming off a broken ankle which she is actually playing pretty good,” said Blevins. “I’m surprised; I was worried it might take her all fall to kind of get back. She’s already playing pretty good. Her short game is suffering a little bit and it’ll take a little while for that.” Nordahl, a native of Bergen, Norway, was the top freshman for the Cats a year ago as she averaged 11 over par. She played in all ten tournaments for RSU with a best finish of second place at the MACU Tournament. This season she will be looked to as a leader for coach Blevins’ squad.

“We have some really good freshman. Kelsey Stuever, Chelsea Burney, Raquel Trevino and Brooke Fern all have the ability to make a big impact from the very beginning,” the Cats head coach said.

“I’m hoping Cecilie takes a leadership role more and is a little more focused with it being her sophomore year,” Blevins spoke of the returning sophomore. “We need her to be more focused and take on more of a leadership role.”

Trevino was a four year member of the varsity golf team as she claimed a district championship in her junior and senior season at Pasadena (Texas) High School. Fern placed second in the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour following her senior season at Broken Arrow (Okla.) High School. The recipient of the Joe Bob Hollie Scholarship from the First Tee Golf Organization was a three-year member of the Broken Arrow Lady Tigers golf team.

Women’s Golf Outlook

u Coach Blevins looks for Chelsea Burney to make a big impact as a freshman.

“Addie Guthrie and Paige DeLozier have a lot of potential and a lot of upside,” said Blevins in discussing his other two newcomers. “It wouldn’t surprise me that if by spring they’re capable of making the line up in the top five.”

“We’re lucky that there are so many good golf teams in this region. The Hawks Creek is hosted by Northwood and Texas Wesleyan. NSU and Henderson will have a strong field of NCAA Division II teams. Oklahoma City’s tournament always has a good, strong field. We’re playing some really tough competition which will serve us well for the spring as we lead up to the conference tournament,” said Blevins.

Guthrie helped lead Poteau (Okla.) High School to three consecutive state tournament appearances including a state title last year. DeLozier helped Collinsville (Okla.) High School to a state tournament in 2010 her senior season with the Cardinals.

The season will conclude with the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament April 15-16 with a berth to the NAIA National Tournament on the line. Blevins believes the regular season slate will prepare the Cats for a postseason push.

Schedule The nine-tournament regular season schedule consists of five trips outside state lines including the season opener at Hawks Creek Golf Club at the Northwood University and Texas Wesleyan University hosted Hawks Creek Fall Invitational starting September 10-11 in Fort Worth, Texas.

“It has always been my philosophy that you play against the level of competition you want to be at. I hope these young ladies will learn quickly how tough the competition is and they’ll work quickly to play that level,” the Hillcats’ fourth year coach said of the upcoming season.

The 2012-13 slate includes four tournaments in Texas, one in Arkansas and four in Oklahoma including the NSU Women’s Golf Classic at Cherry Springs Golf Club in Tahlequah, Okla. and the OCU Stars Fall Classic hosted by Oklahoma City University at Lincoln Park Golf Club. The fall schedule will wrap up at the Lady Reddie Invitational hosted by Henderson State.

2011-2012 Women’s Golf Season in Review The third year of Hillcat women’s golf, led by coach Lynn Blevins, included a few firsts in the program’s short history. A season opening win at the Mid-America Christian Tournament at Earlywine Golf Club in September became the first ever team title for the Hillcats. Led by freshman Cecilie Nordahl’s second place finish RSU earned a 36-stroke win over second place Northwestern Oklahoma State. The following week Blevins’ squad traveled to Tahlequah’s Cherry Springs Golf Course for the Northeastern State University Women’s Golf Classic and claimed the best team finish among NAIA schools. RSU entered the second day of the two-day event at ninth but improved by 11 strokes to finish sixth out of 14 teams. The Cats fall season success wasn’t finished as freshman Kelsey Waldon penciled rounds of 89 and 82 for a tworound total of 171 for fourth place. Waldon along with Nordahl’s seventh place finish of 172 pushed the Hillcats to another team title as RSU finished five strokes ahead of Lindenwood University at the OBU Fall Invitational. A trip down the Turner Turnpike to the OCU Stars Fall Classic at Lincoln Park Golf Course resulted in a ninth place finish for the Cats. Whitney Hocutt carded consecutive rounds of 81 to tie for 29th place. The ECU Tiger Tangle kicked off the spring slate for the Hillcats. RSU finished behind Northeastern State at Oak Hills Country Club in Ada, Okla. as Nordahl finished tied for third with an 83-81-164 card. Play dipped the following two weeks as the Cats first finished 17th out of 20 at the Lady Lion Invitational hosted by Texas A&M Commerce. RSU received national recognition as the Cats received 23 votes in the NAIA Women’s Golf Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the first of the spring, to sit just outside of the top 25. The Cats finished 15th of 17 teams at the rain-shortened Midwestern State Invitational in Wichita Falls, Texas to close out the difficult two-week stretch. The ship was righted the next week at the Bluebonnet Classic hosted by Northwood University at the Tangle Ridge Golf Club. The par 72, 5,969 yard course didn’t prove to be a tough test for sophomore Whitney Hocutt as the Claremore native finished seventh with a 153 total for two days. The Cats totaled 673 for a sixth place finish out of the 14-team field.

RSU Hillcat Sports Information Services Interviews

The “Hillcat” was developed and officially unveiled to the campus in 2005 by RSUPR – the university’s Office of Public Relations – with the assistance of SME Branding of New York, N.Y.

All interviews should be setup through the sports information office. RSU head coaches are available throughout the week, mainly in the morning. Student-athletes are also available for interviews, typically right before or after practice. Most Hillcat teams practice between 3:00 p.m and 5:00 p.m. during the week. Credentials Request for credentials to athletic events should be made at least 48 hours in advance of the event and directed to the sports information office. Spouses, dates, children and non-working media will not be given a pass or assigned a seat on press row. RSU does not provide parking passes to the media.

Style Guidelines u When making a proper name ending in s possessive, DO NOT add an s: i.e. Coach Dicus’, NOT Coach Dicus’s. u In athletic media communications and publications, DO NOT use the term Lady Hillcats or Lady Cats. Hillcats, Cats, Softball Cats, Diamond Cats (baseball), etc. are acceptable. u Refer to the institution as Rogers State on first mention in news releases or other communications about sports events. The words university or college are understood in such releases, and are a commonly accepted practice within athletics.

Gameday Services RSU’s sports information office produces media guides for most sports and game notes for men’s and women’s basketball games, which include rosters, schedules and statistical leaders. Opponents are asked to supply RSU -- either via fax, email or with a link to availability on the web -- with detailed rosters, upto-date statistics and season scores, for use in our game day notes no later than a day before the event. Following a home event, RSU will supply all results to both home and visiting media. RSU always contacts the Claremore Progress, Tulsa World, Daily Oklahoman, and local TV and sports/news radio stations with scores and statistics (where applicable).

Local Media List RSU will email results and statistics to opponent media. Please contact the sports information office at least a day in advance of a game with media phone and fax numbers. Opposing teams are also free to use phone and fax machines in the athletic office or sports information office. Please ask the sports information director or an athletic staff member for assistance.

Statistical Services RSU uses the Dakstats statistics programs for men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball. RSU offers live webcasts for men’s and women’s soccer, basketball, baseball and softball via the NAIA/Daktronics website. RSU will supply visiting teams and media with complete statistics immediately following the game. Postgame, RSU will e-mail dakstats game files to opposing SIDs. A box score of the event will also accompany the email in attachment form. If coaches or opposing SIDs would like dakfiles immediately after the game, please have a jump drive available and we will gladly take care of it.

The “Hillcat” is a fictitious cousin of the bobcat, which is indigenous to northeast Oklahoma. The “Hillcat” also draws its name from “College Hill,” a traditional nickname for RSU. The university sits atop a hill overlooking the city of Claremore. The name “Hillcat” was conceived independently by a group of RSU students in spring 2005, and approved by the University Mascot Committee, Student Government Association, President, and Administration.

RSU Hillcat Compliance What are Boosters permitted to do?

Booster Education for RSU Alumni, Friends & Fans

u Notify coaches about prospects in your area

Rogers State University is responsible for the actions of its coaches, student-athletes and staff, as well as its alumni, boosters and fans. The following information is intended to help educate athletic boosters and organizations, so they can best support RSU athletes without putting the institution or the individual student-athletes at risk. If you have any questions or would like to seek clarification regarding your actions as a supporter of Hillcat athletics, please call the athletic compliance office at (918) 343-7988 or email RSU's NCAA Compliance Coordinator, Eddie Jackson at ejackson@rsu.edu.

u Attend athletic contests where prospects compete, but may not contact the prospect or the prospect's relatives u Continue existing friendships with families of prospects, but not attempt to recruit u Participate with prospects in organized institutional community engagement activities when prospects reside within 100-mile radius of location (Effective 8/1/07)

Enrolled Student-Athletes What contact can Boosters have with currently enrolled student-athletes?

Boosters What is a booster?

A booster may not provide a student-athlete any benefit or special arrangement that would not be offered to the rest of the general student population. This would include:

You are a Booster or Representative of Athletic Interests, if you: u Have participated in, or ever have been, a member of a booster organization that supports RSU athletics;

u May not entertain student-athletes or their friends or family;

u Have made any financial contribution to the RSU athletic department or any athletic organization of the University;

u May not use the name or picture of an enrolled studentathlete to advertise, recommend, or promote any product or service;

u Have been involved in the recruitment of a prospect or have been asked to assist in the recruitment of a prospective student-athlete;

u May not provide awards or gifts to student-athletes; u May not allow a student-athlete to use a telephone to make free calls, or allow use of a free or discounted auto mobile;

u Have provided or are providing benefits to an enrolled student-athlete or his or her relatives or friends; u Have otherwise been involved in promoting the RSU athletic program;

u May not provide a student-athlete free or reduced cost goods or services.

u Have helped arrange employment for student-athletes;

NOTE: An enrolled student-athlete may be invited to a booster's home for an occasional home-cooked meal, but may not be taken to a restaurant.

u Are a parent or guardian of an enrolled student-athlete; u Are or have ever been a season-ticket holder. NOTE: Once someone has been identified as a Booster, they will retain that identity forever.

Employment A student-athlete may be employed so long as compensation is only for work actually performed, at a rate commensurate with the going rate in that locality for similar work, and the student-athlete was not hired based on athletic ability.

Recruiting What is a prospective student-athlete? A prospective student-athlete is any person who has begun classes in the ninth grade. A prospective student-athlete remains so even after signing a National Letter of Intent or accepting financial aid and until they report for the first day of classes.

NOTE: Employment may be arranged for a prospect provided the employment does not begin before the completion of the prospect's senior year of high school.

Institutional Control RSU is responsible for the actions of its boosters and booster support groups. Boosters are regulated by the same NCAA rules and regulations placed upon all institutional athletics staff members.

What are Boosters prohibited from doing? u Contacting a prospect in person on or off campus u Writing or telephoning a prospect or member of the prospect's family

Consequences If a booster provides an impermissible benefit to a prospect, a student-athlete, or their relatives or friends, institutions may be subject to penalties, even if the student-athlete has completed his or her eligibility. A prospect or student-athlete who accepts an impermissible benefit faces the loss of eligibility.

u Making arrangements for the prospect or the prospect's relatives or friends to receive money or financial aid u Providing transportation for a prospect or the prospect's family or friends to visit the campus u Providing free tickets or reduced priced tickets to attend an athletic event to the prospect or the prospect's family or friends u Entertaining coaches of prospects

RSU Traditions Fear the Claw

Hillcat

Not long after Hillcat men’s and women’s basketball was introduced at RSU, the home court at the Claremore Expo Center quickly gained a reputation as a formidable venue for opponents.

The university’s official mascot, the “Hillcat,” is a unique blue and red animal that serves as a source of campus pride and provides a visual identity for the university’s Athletics, Student Activities, and other school spirit programs.

As a member of the Hillcat team aligns himself or herself on the free throw line, the crowd at the Expo Center extends one arm skyward and makes the sign of the claw with their fists.

The “Hillcat” embodies the enthusiastic, determined and bold spirit of the university’s athletic programs and the pride our students and alumni feel for the institution.

If the shot falls successfully, arms descend in the manner of the scratch of a ferocious wild cat.

It is a fictitious cousin of the bobcat, which is indigenous to northeast Oklahoma.

As members of an opposing team prepare to shoot a free throw, the rowdy RSU student section has been known to intimidate the shooter. Depending on the shooter’s fortitude, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t!

The mascot also draws its name from “College Hill,” a traditional nickname for RSU. The university sits atop a hill overlooking the city of Claremore. The name was conceived independently by a group of RSU students in spring 2005, and approved by the University Mascot Committee, Student Government Association, President, and Administration.

Homecoming Week The university celebrated the first-ever Homecoming during the first week of November 2007, during the first Hillcat men’s and women’s basketball games.

The mascot was developed and officially unveiled to the campus in 2005 by RSUPR – the university’s Office of Public Relations – with the assistance of SME Branding of New York, N.Y.

At RSU, Homecoming is a campus-wide tradition. A bonfire is typically held the night before the big games in the open area west of the University Village B student apartments.

Fight Song Hillcats of RSU Standing tall in Red and Blue We will prevail We refuse to fail Because our spirit's great We wear our colors proudly On our way to victory Go Rogers State!!!

A campus office decoration competition is held during Homecoming Week, in which students and staff members compete to show their Hillcat pride. The Hillcat Hacker Invitational is a fun-filled golf event played amidst the hazards of Rogers State University’s scenic Claremore campus. The game features special nondestructive golf balls and is designed for pros, amateurs and hackers alike. The goal of this event is to generate camaraderie among the university’s friends and alumni, showcase RSU’s beautiful and historic campus and establish an outstanding Hillcat Homecoming tradition.

Lyrics by Yvonne Pace Music by Clarence Woods/arr. Weller

Alma Mater Rise above the Claremore valley Camelot to view, Stands our gracious alma mater Thrusting t’ward the blue.

The Slam Dunk Contest and 3-point Shootout has become a yearly tradition held on the Thursday of Homecoming Week. The Homecoming Tailgate Party, held outside of the Claremore Expo Center, is one of the most popular Homecoming events for students, alumni, and the community. For more information, visit www.rsu.edu/homecoming.

Lift the chorus, speed it onward For the Red and Blue, Hail to thee our alma mater Hail to R-S-U!

“I have always dreamed of being a doctor, where I can help people and make a difference in their lives. RSU is giving me the chance to earn a bachelor’s degree that is perfect for pursuing medical school, while I can be active with campus organizations. Through RSU, I was able to get a summer internship with Grand River Dam Authority that gave me valuable real-world experience. It all adds up to make RSU the university I always wanted to attend.” KAITLYN LUNK Adair, OK Medical/Molecular Biology | President’s Leadership Class & Honors Program
