Letter from the President I am pleased to welcome you to the 2011 season of Hillcats soccer.

RSU student athletes have the opportunity to live in on-campus apartments that opened this fall. Each apartment comes with cable TV, internet access, a kitchen, bathroom, private bedroom, and access to study lounges and recreational facilities.

This is truly an exciting time at Rogers State University, as our institution continues to expand in ways that benefit all of our students, faculty and staff.

Of course, campus improvements also include ongoing projects to update academic buildings and improve classroom resources. Just last year, we celebrated the opening of new Baird Hall which boasts classrooms equipped with Smart Boards, a performance studio, an art gallery, and a number of other exciting features.

Student athletes at RSU are seizing the opportunity to be a part of something truly unique. They are choosing to embrace the academic and athletic rigors of collegiate athletics, while contending for conference championships and competing in national tournaments. Last year, 31 student athletes representing each of our athletic programs received an RSU bachelor’s degree and that number continues to rise.

I am not only proud of everything RSU offers our student athletes, I am beyond proud of the contribution our student athletes make to RSU. Thank you for joining us to see it happen for a fifth season.

RSU Student athletes have the opportunity to benefit from a monumental period of university growth. During the 2011-2012 academic year, RSU will undertake major renovations at its soccer and baseball/softball complexes. This follows investments made in training and basketball facilities, and the inception of a cross country program.

Dr. Larry Rice

President, Rogers State University

Letter from the Athletic Director Greetings from the Hill and welcome to the fifth edition of Hillcat Soccer.

We are excited to begin construction on $2.5 million worth of facility enhancements for the soccer programs this year. Work will begin on new field house in the north end of Soldier Field this fall. The field house will include new locker rooms and coaches’ offices as well as public restrooms and concessions for our fans. The natural grass will also be replaced with a state-of-the-art artificial turf playing surface following the 2011 season.

The RSU men’s and women’s soccer teams have enjoyed tremendous success since their inaugural seasons in 2007. Both programs have boasted double-digit win totals each and every year while also qualifying for the Sooner Athletic Conference postseason tournament.

We are very proud of our soccer teams and excited to see what the future holds for these fledging programs. The outpouring of community support has played a huge role in our early success and will remain vital to Hillcat Athletics as we strive to raise the bar once again in 2011-2012.

Coach Larkin and his staff have built a solid foundation for the program while also emphasizing the importance of academic success. Ten members of the men’s and women’s soccer teams earned bachelor’s degrees last spring. In addition, the women’s program was honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America with an Academic Team Award for posting a 3.0 team grade point average during the fall semester.

Thank you for all you do in support of the Hillcats! Ryan Bradley

Director of Athletics, Rogers State University

About RSU

u The new Baird Hall has doubled in size and contains many of the leading-edge features assoictaed with higher learning today.

Rogers State University: A Great Oklahoma Higher Education Success Story Rogers State University holds a historic position in the annals of Oklahoma higher education. Since RSU was accredited as a four-year university in 2000, enrollment has increased by more than 75 percent, earning RSU the title of one of Oklahoma's fastest-growing universities. RSU is a dynamic, progressive university with more than 4,600 students, widely recognized for its high-quality academic programs, distance learning options, and high-technology learning environment. RSU is the only public four-year, residential university in the Tulsa metropolitan area. RSU offers a wide variety of bachelor's and associate degrees. Innovative new bachelor's degrees include applied technology, environmental conservation, military history, sport management, and game development. Many students from northeast Oklahoma who plan to attend medical school complete their undergraduate studies through RSU's program in medical/molecular biology. And RSU enjoys a statewide reputation for academic excellence in its nursing program.

Distinguished Academic Achievements RSU received continued accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools without further required evaluation for 10 years - a rarity in higher education in Oklahoma and a major accomplishment achieved by few universities. This is truly a testament to the high academic quality of RSU. RSU participates in The Washington Center Internship Program, a nationally recognized program placing students with private, public, and nonprofit organizations in Washington, D.C. Students participating in the semester-long internship earn college credit while they gain "real world" experience within their field of interest and interact with influential leaders and policymakers. RSU is one of only three universities in Oklahoma to participate in this prestigious program.

About RSU Most RSU faculty members hold doctoral degrees or the highest degrees available in their fields from esteemed institutions across the nation, including Princeton University, Duke University and the University of Oklahoma. The university also boasts an Honors Program, which provides an atmosphere where scholars can challenge themselves academically to maximize their college experience through specialized courses, student/faculty joint research projects, and a strong emphasis on service learning in the community. In addition, the President's Leadership Class (PLC), a four-year scholarship program that fosters personal and professional development, was designed for RSU students who have demonstrated leadership abilities. RSU also offers study abroad programs in Italy, South Korea, and Wales through the University's Studies-atLarge Program. The international study programs provide students with opportunities to see the world, learn about other cultures, and enrich their educational experience.

Growth in Learning Facilities The Centennial Center, which opened in 2009, has become the centerpiece of the main campus in Claremore. This two-level, 50,000-square-foot facility combines student development programs under one roof, serves as a central location for students to study and socialize and provides a focal point for the RSU campus in Claremore. The facility also offers ballrooms, conference centers, and meeting rooms for the community. A major expansion and renovation of Baird Hall on the Claremore campus was completed in 2010. The new Baird Hall has doubled in size and contains many of the leading-edge features associated with higher learning today, including classrooms equipped with Smart Boards, a performance studio, an art gallery, and an outdoor classroom for learning outdoors on sunny days. The University dedicated in September a new student apartment community that doubles the number of students living on the main campus in Claremore. The $11.5 million project will accommodate up to 255 students in a three-level facility, located across the street from the present university apartments. The new 87,118-square-foot complex is located just west of Soldier Field, with a main entrance on Colonel Horne Drive. The state-of-the-art Stratton Taylor Library opened in 2004. The library features distinguished collections, wireless Internet, study areas, reading rooms, computer stations, classrooms, and a coffee bar.

About RSU

u RSU is one of the fastest-growing universities in Oklahoma.

A Brief History of RSU RSU was founded in 1909 as Eastern University Preparatory School in Claremore. The school prepared the daughters and sons of area residents to attend college. Historic Preparatory Hall, known for its iconic gold dome, was the first building on the school's campus. However, the school closed only a few years after it opened. Taking its place was the storied Oklahoma Military Academy (OMA), which operated on the Hill from 1919 to 1971. Known as the “West Point of the Southwest, OMA has an extensive register of graduates who became great leaders, both in military and civilian life. More than 2,500 OMA graduates served in the Armed Forces of the United States during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. More than 100 graduates gave their lives in service to their country. In 1971, OMA closed and Claremore Junior College opened on the Hill, serving more than 400 students. The junior college grew rapidly in the 1970s, and by the time it was renamed Rogers State College in 1982, the institution boasted a variety of associate degree programs, distance learning capabilities, a new radio and television station, and intercollegiate athletics. In 1999, the Oklahoma Legislature renamed the institution Rogers State University and charged it with seeking accreditation as a four-year university. Accreditation at the baccalaurete level was granted in 2000. Today, RSU is one of Oklahoma's fastest-growing universities, offering a wide variety of bachelor's degree programs to more than 4,600 students on campuses in Claremore, Bartlesville, and Pryor.

Hillcat LIFE Programs

u The core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship are addressed in the Champions of Character program.

Academic Development The Rogers State University Student-Athlete Academic Development (SAAD) program is designed to support Hillcat athletes as they strive for success in the classroom and reach their educational and career goals. The program provides academic support such as advisement, subject tutors, and learning groups for each RSU student-athlete. Study sessions are designed specifically for each athletic program, and student-athletes are given the opportunity to work with tutors trained in their particular area of academic study. The goal of the SAAD program is to help all athletes grow into responsible adults as they become upperclassmen and take initiative to be personally responsible for their education and their future. The Student-Athlete Academic Development program, led by Dr. Brian Andrew, is there every step of the way for all athletes, to ensure they are pursuing a degree that will support their personal goals and prepare them for life after college.

Hillcat LIFE Programs The Hillcat LIFE programs are designed to promote student-athletes’ success off the field or court. Each year, RSU introduces a variety of programs to enrich the college experience of its student-athletes, helping them avoid potential pitfalls and giving them information useful when making important life decisions. The following are some examples of Hillcat LIFE programs: Etiquette training: Student-athletes are instructed on proper dining habits, dating manners, and courtesies. Each athlete is given a demonstration on the proper etiquette at formal meals. Drug and Alcohol Counseling: Student-athletes are made aware of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. They are given examples of athletes with promising futures who failed to reach their potential due to drug/alcohol abuse. “It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time…” Seminar: This presentation attempts to enlighten student-athletes about the existing legal realities associated with various acts they likely deem benign and provokes introspection that will lead to more careful decisionmaking. Nutrition Counseling: A nutritionist meets with student-athletes to discuss healthy meal choices and life styles. Athletes are given an overview of different types of foods and how they affect the human body.

5

Hillcat LIFE Programs Dangers of Gambling: Student-athletes are warned about the dangers of gambling addictions and also are warned against gambling on collegiate athletics, which is a violation of NAIA and NCAA rules. RSU athletics continues to expand its programs in order to provide a well-rounded education for all Hillcat athletes.

Champions of Character

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Champions of Character program is designed to instill an understanding of character values in sport, and provide practical tools for student-athletes, coaches and parents to use in modeling exemplary character traits. Launched by the NAIA in 2000, the Champions of Character program addresses character issues more comprehensively than any other national program for youth. The program currently reaches hundreds of thousands of students on nearly 300 college and university campuses in North America and extends into their surrounding communities. The NAIA has been informally teaching character development through athletics for decades. The core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship are addressed comprehensively in the Champions of Character program. The NAIA Champions of Character program is an educational outreach initiative that emphasizes the tenets of character and integrity, not only for NAIA college students, but for younger students, coaches, and parents in our communities. Coaches, parents, administrators, and community partners all have a role in developing students of character. The NAIA Champions of Character program brings them training, guidelines, and behavior models to create positive environments that promote personal growth and fun sport activity.

Derek Larkin - Head Soccer Coach In just four seasons on the Hill, Head Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach Derek Larkin has established a winning tradition with the Rogers State University soccer programs

to 2004. He was named the Red River Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2002 after leading the Lady Warriors to the conference championship. Larkin also juggled “double duty” as both the men’s and women’s head soccer coach at Missouri Valley College from 1997 to 1999 and at Catoosa High School from 1999 to 2002. He compiled six district championships at Catoosa and was honored as the head coach of the Oklahoma All-State team in 2002.

Larkin led both of his first-year programs to a second place finish in the Sooner Athletics Conference and a spot in the Region VI Tournament in 2007 and reached the postseason with both squads again in 2008, 2009 and 2010. He spurred the Hillcat women to the SAC Tournament Championship during their inaugural season and was named SAC Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year for his efforts.

A four-year starter at Missouri Valley College, Larkin was a twoyear captain leading the Vikings to two Heart of America Conference Championships. He was twice named first team all-conference and second team all-region.

His teams have combined for 101 wins over a four-year span with the women’s program posting an astounding 56-23-1 record. Both the men and women enjoyed double digit win totals in each of their first four seasons and have averaged a fourth place finish in the conference.

Larkin currently serves as a boy’s coach for the Northeast Oklahoma Futbol Club and is the former director of coaching for the Oklahoma Revolution Soccer Club and girl’s head coach for the Tulsa Nationals Soccer Club. He has collected four Directors Cup Oklahoma State Championships in his coaching career.

Larkin joined RSU in January 2007 as the university’s first head soccer coach. Before coming to the Hill, Larkin enjoyed success as the head boy’s soccer coach at Bishop Kelley High School from 200406. He led the Comets to back-to-back state championships in 2005 and 2006.

Larkin and his wife Christy have two boys, Zach (11) and Adam (9) and reside in Owasso.

Larkin previously served as the head men’s and women’s soccer coach at Bacone College from 2002

Shawn Slater Assistant Head Coach

Bryan Weygand Assistant Coach

Assistant head coach Shawn Slater returns for the fifth season of Hillcat Soccer. Slater has been an integral part of establishing a winning tradition at RSU since the program’s inception in 2007. He brings a vast amount of experience as a player and coach to the program. An All-State selection at Tulsa Nathan Hale High School, Slater later starred at John Brown University as well as with several professional teams, including the Tulsa Roughnecks and the Dallas Sidekicks.

Assistant coach Bryan Weygand begins his fourth season with the Hillcats this fall. Weygand assists with the men’s team and also works with the keepers for both programs. He got his start in coaching at Bixby High School where he worked as an assistant from 1996-2001. Weygand began coaching the Hurricane Futball Club in 1999 as co-coach of the 88 boys until their graduation in 2006. Since 2002 Weygand has overseen all goalkeeper training duties within the Hurricane club including the competitive, academy and recreational divisions of the Broken Arrow Soccer Club.

In addition to his role with the Hillcats, Slater also serves as the head boy’s soccer coach at Claremore High School. He worked as an assistant coach at Booker T. Washington and Tulsa Memorial High School before landing his first head coaching position at Nathan Hale in 1995. Slater later guided the Bixby and Chickasha boy’s soccer programs and helped Catoosa claim the Class 4A State Championship in 2003-04. He currently serves on the coaching staff for the Blitz United Soccer Club. Slater led the Claremore High School boy’s team to its first ever state title appearance in 2007.

Weygand played alongside Coach Shawn Slater with the Tulsa Roughnecks. His professional playing career spanned from 1995-2005 in the USISL and PASL leagues. Weygand also works for Paetec Communications as an account manager. His wife Kendi is a student at RSU.

u Coach Derek Larkin and staff compiled 101 wins in four years of Hillcat soccer.

2011 Season

Men’s Soccer Outlook OUTLOOK

“Justin Friesen brings experience and leadership to the field,” Larkin said. “He is our captain who will anchor the midfield and run the show in there.”

The 2011 season brings a mixture of veteran returners and talented newcomers together with one common goal: winning a championship. The Hillcats graduated 10 seniors in 2010, however Head Coach Derek Larkin is looking to his returners to step up and fill the void.

RSU returns several talented players on defense, including all four starters. Ryan Coffman and Bryan Jones will anchor the defense. Jones started in 17 games and was an all-conference performer in 2010 while adding two goals and two assists. Mychal Adamson returns to the back line after starting 16 games as a sophomore and Marco Bukva rounds out the starting four.

“It’s unfortunate we lost that much leadership on the team,” Larkin said. “But I think it will also allow a lot of young players to step up and take a vital leadership role on the team. The guys that graduated from the program last season left a great mark but they’ve been here for four years and it’s a new start for the men’s program. The great thing is almost our entire starting lineup is coming back. We have 16 returning players; nine of which were starters. The experience is there, we just need them to step up as leaders.” u Henrique Sousa

RETURNERS

“We have all four of our starting defensive players coming back and I feel confident about our back line,” Larkin said. “Ryan Coffman and Bryan Jones will be our two centerbacks along with Marko Buvka and Mychal Adamson who will play on the flanks. All four returners have played together for a couple of years now and work really well together. “

forward

The Hillcats return 50 percent of their offensive production from last year’s squad, including senior T.J. Martin who will lead the offense. The Oronogo, Mo. native started in all 18 games last season and led the Hillcats in scoring and assists as he produced eight goals and dished out six assists.

NEWCOMERS Several talented freshmen will battle for playing time up front. Nathan Garcia and Devon Williams will look to make an immediate impact on offense. Garcia comes to RSU from Waxahachie, Texas where he scored eight goals and dished out 13 assists during his senior year. Williams is from Lewisville, Texas where he netted three goals and tallied two assists last year.

“T.J. Martin is coming back from a very good year,” Larkin noted. “I think he has an opportunity as a senior to be a leader and score some goals.” Henrique Sousa returns for his senior campaign with a new role. As one of the most versatile players on the squad, he will transition from defense into a more offensive role.

“Freshmen Nathan Garcia and Devon Williams could be an added bonus for us if they can step up and perform this year,” Larkin said.

“We’re looking at moving Henrique Sousa from the back to the front,” Larkin said. “He played PDL (Premier Development League) all summer in St. Louis as an attacking player, coming back very fit and ready to go. I think he could be a huge asset to us on the attack.”

NCAA Division I transfer, Gary Arauz played in 22 matches at Oral Roberts over two seasons. Coach Larkin hopes to see Arauz use his talent and experience to make an immediate impact on the pitch. “Oral Roberts transfer, Gary Arauz will be a real added talent to our lineup,” Larkin said. “Between Arauz and Friesen along with a couple of other talented players we should have a great midfield.”

Junior Justin Friesen started in all 18 games as a sophomore, scoring one goal and adding one assist. He also started in every contest as a freshman; with his experience Coach Larkin will be looking to him to command the center midfield.

10

Men’s Soccer Outlook EXPECTATIONS

The biggest question mark for the Hillcats comes between the posts where Coach Larkin will have to fill the shoes of four-year starting goalkeeper, Sean Surridge. Surridge served as the primary goalkeeper for the program since the inaugural season and was named SAC Goalkeeper of the Year as a senior in 2010.

With a good mix of returners and newcomers the Hillcats are eager to make their mark on the program. “With all those returning players, the influx of some key transfers and some great freshman talent, I think the sky is the limit,” Larkin said. “I think they can go as far as they want to and it depends on how hard they want to work and hopefully things fall into place. We were very close last year and with all these guys coming back I think we have great opportunity to do well this season.”

“There’s no doubt that Sean was great from a talent stand point but even more from a confidence standpoint,” Larkin said. “Having someone in goal for four years that the team could depend on and count on was a huge advantage. He left some big shoes to fill. Our keepers are going to have to find a way to fill those shoes and gain the confidence of the players around them. But I do believe in the three goalkeepers we have. I think between the three of them it’s going to be a real battle to earn the starting position.” Jeremy Swift redshirted last season at RSU and is looking to earn the starting goalkeeper position. Newcomers Mitchell Penton and Nathan Inger are also eyeing the starting spot.

SCHEDULE The Hillcats have added fire power to their non-conference schedule in order to be better prepared for the rigors of Sooner Athletic Conference play. RSU will open the 18-game slate at home against regional rival Oklahoma Wesleyan on Aug. 30. The Cats will travel to Coach Larkin’s alma mater, Missouri Valley College, on September 1. The Vikings enter the 2011 season ranked No. 14 in the NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll and ranked No. 1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. “There’s no doubt this is the toughest schedule we’ve had,” Larkin stated. “Even though we aren’t playing any Division I teams we will play several Top 20 NAIA and NCAA Division II teams. We are extremely confident from the opening game against Oklahoma Wesleyan all the way to Lindenwood University, who won the National Championship in 2004, that all the non-conference games we’re playing will really prepare us for conference play. The conference schedule is always grueling and we want to be prepared” The Hillcats were tabbed to finish fourth in the 2011 SAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Oklahoma Baptist and USAO both reached the NAIA National Tournament last season and tied for the top spot in the poll. OBU enters the season ranked No. 8 in the NAIA Preseason Poll and USAO is ranked 15th. Oklahoma City University was ranked third in the SAC poll and received votes in the NAIA poll.

2010 Men’s Soccer Season In Review The Rogers State men’s soccer team recorded 10 wins or more and reached the Sooner Athletic Tournament for the fourth consecutive season in 2010. The Hillcats opened the season on the road with a 0-0 draw at Oklahoma Wesleyan and dropped the home opener 2-1 to Lyon College. Coach Derek Larkin’s squad bounced back and made history by defeating NCAA Division I opponent Oral Roberts University 1-0 at the ORU Soccer Complex. The win marked the first victory over a NCAA Division I opponent in any sport at RSU. The win over ORU sparked a nine-game winning streak including a double overtime victory over Friends University (Kan.) and a trio of Sooner Athletic Conference victories. The Cats opened SAC play with a 1-0 road victory over Southern Nazarene. RSU then traveled to Plainview, Texas as they registered a 6-1 win over Wayland Baptist. The club rounded out the road stint with a 1-0 victory at Oklahoma City University. October was filled with many high and lows. The winning spell was snapped with a loss to Oklahoma Baptist but the Cats rallied as they blitzed St. Gregory’s 6-0. John Brown defeated RSU 3-0 at Soldier Field. T.J. Martin scored in the 82nd minute en route to a 1-1 double-overtime draw against Lubbock Christian. The Hillcats fell short in in double-overtime at the University of Science and Arts. RSU posted a 2-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian before suffering a set back at Mid-America Christian in the regular season finale. RSU qualified for the conference tournament for the fourth consecutive season. However, they fell short in the opening round at Oklahoma City. Sean Surridge was named Sooner Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All- Conference. Surridge served as the Hillcats primary goalkeeper over the first four years of the program. He holds the RSU record for saves in a single season (116), the single-game saves (18) and the career saves record (343). He was named secondteam All-Conference in 2008 and 2009. Bryan Jones was named Second Team All-Conference in 2010. The Tulsa, Okla. native appeared in all 18 games last season, making 17 starts. With 15 returners and eight players who saw significant playing time the Hillcats will look to earn their first Sooner Athletic Conference Championship in 2011. u T.J. Martin midfielder

2011 Season

Women’s Soccer Outlook OUTLOOK

NEWCOMERS

The Rogers State women’s soccer team enjoyed its fourth-straight winning season in 2010. The Hillcats look to continue their success in 2011 as they return a large group of veterans while adding an impressive nucleus of newcomers.

Coach Larkin added to the Hillcats arsenal on the front line with a pair of newcomers. Division I transfer Veronica Subu and freshman Jordan Beasley look to make and immediate impact on the Hillcat offense.

“We’re really excited about our nice mixture of a returning core of players,” Head Coach Derek Larkin said. “We have some great players coming back with a lot of leadership along with a very talented freshman class. I think the combination of the two along with a couple key transfers will make for a very nice blend of talented players.” u Abby Rickner

RETURNERS

“New Mexico State transfer Veronica Subu and freshman Jordan Beasley are both very talented and will bring speed to the lineup,” Larkin said. With the mix of newcomers and returners we have on offense, I am confident in the amount of talent and overall speed we will have on the front line. “

defender

Twelve players, including seven starters, return from the 2010 squad. RSU returns a trio of goal-scorers to the lineup. Leading the way is Shereen Clarke, who paced the Cats with nine goals last season. Senior Chelsea Myers and junior Lauren Hager each netted three goals and dished out one assist during the 2010 campaign.

The Hillcats added Claremore High School product, Tara Garrett to the midfield. She was named to the Oklahoma All-State squad as a senior in 2009. In high school, she helped lead the Claremore Zebras to a State Quarterfinal finish in both her junior and senior seasons.

“Last year we had a lot of team speed with Chelsea Myers, Lauren Hager and Shereen Clarke up top,” Larkin said. “They are three of our most versatile players and we are expecting big things from them this season.”

“Tara Garrett is a Claremore girl, I think she’s going to help us a lot in the midfield,” Larkin said. “We may be shuffling players around, we may use Shereen Clarke and Veronica Subu in the middle along with a couple of other younger players. I think we’ll have a great combination that will allow us to defend and attack.”

Sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea McMullin returns after an exceptional rookie year. The Hillcats return every starter on the back line, including Abby Rickner, Jessica Turner, Cierra Lohaus and Devon Bullard. “It’s always great to have your starting goalkeeper back,” Larkin said. “Chelsea McMullin had a fantastic season as a freshman and with a year of experience under her belt we are expecting even bigger things from her this season. In front of her we have players along the backline like Abby Rickner who has a lot of experience and talent. Jessica Turner is coming back along with Lauren LeForce, Cierra Lohaus and Devon Bullard. So basically our entire backline is back along with a returning goalkeeper.”

For the first time in the program’s short history, the Hillcats have added depth between the posts. Danielle Burgess is a freshman from Catoosa High School where she led the Indians to a 13-3 State runner-up finish during her senior campaign. She tallied 98 saves and six shutouts earning MVP honors and Athlete of the Year recognition. Jordan Harris is a transfer from the University of Missouri-Kansas City where she redshirted as a freshman. In her senior season of high school at Claremore, Harris was named to the all-state, all-district and all-metro teams. She led Class 5A in saves as a senior and was named team MVP.

29

Women’s Soccer Outlook “We have a plethora of talent at the goalkeeper position,” Larkin said. “For the first time in a long time we’re deep at that position. Freshman Danielle Burgess from Catoosa and Division I transfer Jordan Harris are both outstanding goalkeepers.”

The Hillcats will round out their regular season home slate and honor the class of 2011 with Senior Night festivities against OBU on October 29. They will wrap up the regular season with a trip to Siloam Springs, Ark. where the Cats will face JBU.

SCHEDULE

“We are playing better non-conference talent this fall to prepare us for conference,” Larkin said. “Having the opportunity to play Oral Roberts on the road, along with teams like Lindenwood and Missouri Valley are going to be great tests for our team.”

The Hillcats open the 2011 season at home against regional-rival Oklahoma Wesleyan on August 30. The Cats will face a NCAA Division I opponent for the first time in program history on September 9 as they travel to Tulsa to face Oral Roberts University. RSU will open Sooner Athletic Conference play on September 21 at home against Wayland Baptist.

EXPECTATIONS With several returners and a talented group of newcomers the Hillcats are ready prove they belong among the best in the league.

Defending SAC Champions, Oklahoma City University is the only team in the conference ranked in the NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll. However, John Brown, Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Baptist all received votes in the poll.

“I was looking for a university where I would be more than a face in the crowd. At Rogers State University, I’m a member of the Honors Program and the varsity cheerleading squad, all while pursuing my degree in medical/molecular biology. I don’t know for sure where I’ll be ten years from now but I do know I’ll be working in the medical field and my education will have prepared me to be successful. RSU has given me so many opportunities that I would not have gotten at other schools. For that, I’ll always be grateful.”

2010 Women’s Soccer Season In Review The Rogers State women’s soccer team compiled a 10win season and made its fourth consecutive trip to the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament in 2010.

The women garnered several honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Rickner was named to the 2010 Performance Subaru NAIA AllSouthwest Region team while the Hillcat women’s soccer team earned the Academic Team Award.

Coach Derek Larkin’s women’s squad opened the fall slate with a four-game winning streak. The Hillcats blitzed Oklahoma Wesleyan 5-1 in the season opener on the road. They opened the home schedule with a 2-0 win over Friends University. The women needed a goal from senior Tiffany Roberts in the 101st minute of play to secure a 3-2 victory over Bethel College to keep the winning streak alive. The Hillcats capped off the streak with a victory over McPherson College.

With 12 returners and eight starters slated to return for the 2011 season the future looks bright for the women’s soccer team.

RSU dropped its final two non-conference games against Avila and Ottawa University in Kansas. However, the Cats bounced back by winning their SAC debut at Southern Nazarene. RSU squeaked past Wayland Baptist with a 10 victory before falling 1-0 to Oklahoma City University, the eventual undefeated SAC Champions. A 0-0 draw against Oklahoma Baptist marked the first tie in program history. RSU then garnered a 9-0 victory over St. Gregory’s, however the rest of October proved to be a rollercoaster. John Brown handed the Cats a 3-0 loss and the Cats registered a 3-0 win over Lubbock Christian. USAO slipped past RSU, converting a penalty kick in the 85th minute to seal the 1-0 win. On senior night, the Cats earned a 3-2 victory with Roberts providing a goal and an assist. RSU earned its seventh shutout of the season with a 4-0 win at Northwestern. Despite falling to Mid-America Christian in the regular season finale, the Cats clinched a spot in the SAC Tournament. The Hillcats fell to Southern Nazarene 2-1 in the opening round of the SAC Tournament. The Hillcats ended the season with a 10-8-1 overall record. Four seniors ended their career on the Hill in 2010. Claremore, Okla. native Tiffany Roberts finished her four-year stint at RSU second in scoring with 41 goals. Bailey Lynn finishes holding the career saves record with 293 saves. Three Rogers State women’s soccer players earned Second Team All-Sooner Athletic Conference honors. Junior Abby Rickner started in all 18 games and anchored the defense. Shereen Clarke led RSU in scoring as a junior with nine goals. Freshman goalkeeper Chelsea McMullin record 120 saves in 17 games and was named SAC Defensive Player of the week in September.. Lauren Hager was named a Daktronics-NAIA ScholarAthletes and made the 2010-11 CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District Third Team.
