Dedication page

I would like to dedicate this book to all of my family. They have stuck up for me and loved me through terrible times. But there is one person in my life that is closer to me than anyone else. We would always get in trouble together, and lived with each other. He was one of the two people I could tell anything to. It’s my cousin Jacob Corkern. He is as close to me as my brother. I would also like to dedicate the poem “Cry” to show how much I care for my Aunt Melissa Ament. I love you all.

First biographical sketch

My name is Ravian Ament; I am 14 and live in Huntsville, Arkansas. I currently live in Foster care, but might move to Harrison during the summer to live with my cousins, aunts, sister by marriage. I have 3 best friends, Kelsi Jones, Sarah Lane, and Journey Bailey. I would die for them, and I know they will do the same for me. But I also have a lot more friends, although they aren’t my best friends.

Rainbow

The time I got dirty and didn’t get in a boat load of trouble, was when I went with my church over to a football field in Springdale. The fire department sprayed the football field so it would be a big mud bowl. All four churches had to stand at each corner and wait for the watermelon to be placed in the center of the field. When the whistle blew, as the churches scrambled through the gooey mud to get the watermelon. After an hour of trying to get the melon, we played tug-u-war. We were muddy from head to toe. We had to stop the game early because out teen pastor got really bad hurt. So we dug for eggs in the mud. We finally found the last egg! They didn’t have any showers, so we got washed by a fire hose. When the water came out, it was a rainbow of colors . Some people could not get the colors off. So that is how the rainbow accidently came to be.

Sleep walking

“Oww!” I hate falling off the bed. So I walk to the bathe room to brush my teeth. When I look at the clock I realize it is only 3:00 a.m. I walk to my room but hear something down at the bottom of the hall. It sounds like a bird. I open the door at the bottom of the hall, to see a beach, trees, a hut, and a lizard. I walk over to the hut and find a note. “If any one comes, I’ve gone surfing be back later.” So I sit on a chair and wonder if the water is safe to swim in. I turn and ask the lizard what he thinks. But he just said he doesn’t swim. As I fall out of my seat from shock, I realize something. If the water wasn’t safe to swim in, then the person wouldn’t be out surfing. I walk around the beach looking for a good place to surf. But found a piece of paper instead. I turn it over to see my old poem. This place is where all my lost things go! “Ouch! What are you doing?” “Mom, why am I in your room and sleep walking again?”

Last time

It was July 14, 1843. me and my friend Kelsi went for a boat ride near Florida. It was a sunny day, no big waves, or sharks. We were riding in a big orange tube looking thing. We had a rope tied from the beach to the tube, so we wouldn’t go too far. We started to fall asleep, the small waves rocking us back and forth. A loud noise just off the beach woke Kelsi up. She saw a boat rip the rope in two. She woke me up to tell me we were stranded. That was the last time I ever saw anybody else again.

Wave

When you think of the ocean you think of me. I help you with water sports. I could be your best friend. But look out I could take you under really easy. I can be here one day and gone the next. I can chill you to the bone, but cannot burn your hair off. I come in many shapes and sizes. Little kids dream of riding me. Old people fear me. I have power but have no life. I am a wave.

5

Storm

I am the storm that has been with you your entire life. You would say at the sound of my thunder at 3. You would run away when I burned your tree at 7. And know I am here again at 12 to put knew tears in your eyes.

6

Cry

The cry of the wolf running through the trees, The cry of the eagle soaring over the seas, The cry of a baby under a moonlit sky, The cry of a mother’s last goodbye. The cry of a father that worked himself to death, The cry of a brother searching for one last breath, The cry for life coming from an old music box, The cry of a lock searching for a key, The cry of a girl begging for something good to eat, Some cries will be left unheard, But some need at least a word.

Biographical sketch #2

I was raised by my father, although my mother would sometimes have us kids over for the summer. When I and my brother were little, we were really close. After my brother got in the car crash that nearly killed him, he had to be split up. Ever since that night we weren’t as close any more. My brother is currently in a place for brain damage (Timber Ridge).

No homework The 7th period class did not want to have homework on January 11, 2013. The teacher said that we had to and she was not kidding. But Jaren said that it was unfair, he got the class in such an uproar that he got detention. This caused the other kids in the class to sit back in their seats out of fear they would get detention as well. So the teacher decided to do the homework in class and not send it home to the students. But Jaren had to have his way. He stood up in front of the class and explained why teachers should not send work home. He explained everything from grades to how it could cause us to sleep less at night. After the ten minute speech Jaren finally got the teacher to disapprove of homework and abolish the assignment.

Growing up

Tom was scared of growing up because his school will change and he will have more responsibility so he went to tell his dad he was never going to grow up. When his dad heard this he decided to have a talk with his son. His dad told Tom that as he gets older he meets new people, and gets to do more stuff. The last thing his father told Tom was, “You may not want to grow up, but life has a way of making you.” 3 years past and Tom is now 11. He has lots of friends and is a very active boy. One night his friends wanted to stay the night at Tom’s house to play guitar hero. That night Tom’s sister is having a sleep over as well. The boys got tired of playing, so they got an idea to scare the girls up stairs. They moved quietly up the stars and down the hall. The girls were painting each other’s nails. The boys thought it would be easy but the boys heard a creek on the floor boards. They turned slowly around to find tom’s dad in a hockey mask to keep the boys down stairs. And that night the girls weren’t scared and the boys stayed down stairs. And the dad waited.

Football night

I couldn’t have asked for a better day. Here I was cheering on the Hogs; what better way can you append an afternoon? Eating cheese puffs and drinking a cold can of rip-it is the tradition to watching football. It gives you the energy you need and the gut you deserve. The game wasn’t the best, not one touchdown. But the feel of the game was intense.

Hunt

It excites me seeing him run through the woods. His horns swiping against the leaves on the branches. They will look great on my wall. I load up my gun and “POW”! He drops to the ground with a crunch from the leaves. Now I’m not disgusted from the blood going down his side. He will make some fine jerky. I hull him on the back of my four wheeler. After he is strapped on, I hit the gas. When I got home, I help my dad skin the buck. After we wash him we roll the meat in mixed up spices. I think the jerky isn’t as good as turkey jerky, but it still has a taste of its own. Mom puts the rest of the deer in some chili for tonight. I waited to do the antlers for after dinner. Tomorrow I will go out and find me a good piece of wood to mount my antlers on, to show my victory of my first 8 point buck. But I’m always scared I would actually hit a doe and her baby, so I take extra precautions.

Why

As I walk down the aisle, I hope the jury would pity me. The cuffs are so tight; I think they are indented into my wrist. I look up for a split second to see my mom weeping in the middle of the spectator seats. Where was dad? The guard that escorted me here shoved me in my chair. I look to my left to see my best friend again. She looked terrible. She was almost covered in casts. I wanted to run over to her, and tell her I was sorry for making her look like this. Why did we do that? Neither of us even had out driver’s license, none the less being 21. The real person that should be executed was that person that sold us the beer. But it was me that bought it. I should take the responsibility for the wreck. But why did we do it? The judge gave me 2 years of juvey and when I turn 18 I get 1 year of cold, hard jail.

Biographical sketch #3

My favorite sport is rip-sticking. I try to teach people how to ride one, but most of them can never get over being scared of rip-sticks. When I grow up, I’m going to be either a P.E. coach or a preschool teacher. My favorite drink is rip-it (energy drink). My favorite food is ramen noodles, any kind of flavor but shrimp. My favorite hobby is camping with my family.

Sticking up for myself

My brother wants to make popcorn with no salt. And I always put salt in my popcorn. So I stand up for what I want. I tell my brother that I want salt with my popcorn. And he tells me that he can’t stand salt in his popcorn. So I tell him to make another bag. He says there aren’t any more bags. We sit at the table and try to find a solution. He comes up with having no salt in the popcorn. I came up with having salt in the popcorn and he getting over it. Finally we agreed to share. So we get a bowl and split the amount of popcorn between us.

Thankful for

I am thankful for my brother Blake. If he wasn’t my brother I wouldn’t have such an outgoing personality. And I am thankful to have a brother that loves me. I also give thanks for turtles, because they rule! I give thanks for my kitten Casper, he loves me for me.

16

Why you have to never kill anybody

Why do we have the rule to never kill anybody? Well, you’re in luck because I have an answer. If you kill somebody, there family or friends could hunt you down out of anger and sorrow. Secondly, why are you the only one who can kill others? If there were no rules against killing, everybody will kill people. Then there will be a rise of deaths and the human kind can go extinct! Imagine this, coming home from school one day, and seeing you mom and dad dead on the floor, some people are crazy! This is why we have this rule.

17

My dreams

I think I might be going crazy but I’ll leave that up to you. I’ve had dreams about turtles. One was completely neon green! And in my other dream the turtle had a neon blue shell and neon blue eyes. Turtles are my favorite animals but the colors have gotten me confused. And the colors weren’t the only thing weird about them they talked and they could run really fast. I have no idea why I dreamed this, but there is only one reason. I’ve gone crazy.

Justice or not

When we suspect someone is doing something wrong, we act out of fear for our own safety. For we know we are not safe f someone does something wrong. It may have been a kid stealing a lollypop from a store but what if he grows up thinking stealing is ok. He may think other bad things are ok also. The difference between seeking Justice and a desire to punish is people that seek Justice want to have proof before they punish someone who did wrong. But a person that desires to punish others skips that proof and just wants to punish others with no facts at all.
