November & December 2016, National Concert Hall
musical adventures Some of the most popular pieces in orchestral music
In 2015 the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and Tom Redmond presented Musical Adventures for the very first time and what a rip-roaring success it was! Children and teachers were enthralled by Tom’s vibrant presentation where musical gems were imparted with the greatest of ease, participation and interaction by orchestra and audience were the order of the day, as was a quite generous dollop of good humour!
Now this unique concert presentation of little more than an hour is back, this time with more than a nod to the samba and Santa music as well as a fiery Spanish gypsy (Carmen), one of the most evil men in human history (Stalin), a couple of love songs (Mahler’s Fifth Symphony and Elgar’s Salut d’amour ), not to mention a three-cornered hat, de Falla style! Oh, and for Christmas, a check-in with Harry Potter in the Chamber of Secrets! Love, hate, pride, elation: they’re all there.
We hope you will be too! Tickets, €10 with accompanying teachers going free.

what’s it all about? Musical Adventures is all about capturing the imagination of children and teachers, experiencing the power of a live orchestra, stories brought vividly to life through music and introducing the individual instruments and instrument families.
Participation and learning during and after the concerts are a key part of these RTÉ NSO presentations. Included in the ticket price will be programme notes for all children and teachers, and two lesson plans for teachers so that learning and musical discovery can continue in the classroom.
