Continue Working on Their Case Studies

Have the students split into their teams and then have a class discussion about any questions they have as groups. These should be kept to questions that might be useful to all of the groups. If a group has a specific question pertaining to their group they can wait until after the group discussion to have a volunteer help them in their small group. If you feel that the groups need more guidance with their case studies, split the class into two groups: one group for Walmart vs. Target and one for Amazon vs. Shopify. You can discuss the articles or data and support students where they need it the most. (15-20 minutes)

After the group discussion, students should continue working on their case studies in their groups. Volunteers should walk around and take turns checking in with groups and sitting in on their discussions. Sometimes students don’t know what questions to ask or may feel shy asking. Also, volunteers may be able to point out something the students haven’t thought about or offer some expert advice on these financial conclusions they are making.

Volunteers can also aid students in looking up current articles or current data. Our curriculum is printed in June/July so we fully support students wanting to look up and use current research/data for their projects. We have provided these resources in case they don’t have easy access to the internet. 6.

Presentation and Research

Before dismissing, ask the students to determine at least one person in each group who can bring a laptop or tablet to the next session in order to create the group’s presentation. Also encourage students to conduct some online research prior to the next session to determine if there is any new information available in the news and markets about either company. Explain how quickly things can change in the stock market.

AFTER SESSION 3: Important Activities Before Session 4

During the week ahead, spend some time exploring the following activities before returning for Session 4. (This list appears in the Student Workbook)

1. Complete any activities or read any articles you weren’t able to finish in Session 3. 2. Thoroughly review and get to know the key terms. We want students to remember these long after RTSWS is over and all students will be taking a post-assessment in Session 5 to see how much they’ve learned. So make sure they study these! 3. If you haven’t yet, connect with us on social media! We post current articles, internship and job

shadowing opportunities, and even highlight our students and community publicly.
