ANewYear ANewYear
The RST Chronicle is back and running! For any new students - and teachersthe RST Chronicle is a newspaper that is written by Year 7 & 8 students and is published once every week. We cover tons of different topics, at least one is sure to catch your attention! We offer a quick update on current events in the school as well as topics such as sports, books, travel and much much more! This year, we have many new team members so I will do a full introduction of them on the next page.
Another thing that contributes to the new changes this year are the arrival of new faces! We are blessed to have even more talented teachers here to guide us through our academic and sporting journey. Along with that, many students just joined us, all new to the school’s facilities and campus. Not only are there new students and teachers moving to our school, the Year 3s just graduated to the Prep building! Congratulations to them and I hope you are ready for the start of a new journey. They may need some guidance around the school so please help them out if they require it!
One of the changes this year is the Boarding Tie. This year, the school has created a new variation of the tie specifically for the Boarders! This unique new tie signifies students that are currently boarding at the school!
Now, here is the promised update on current activities and changes! Since it is still a brand new year and only a few weeks in, some people may still be busy settling into the new routine, and the shock of being one year older!
A new school year equals new opportunities, friends and challenges. Stay resilient and let’s emerge through the new year with bright smiles!

INFOMANIA Pythagoras’ Therorem
In this section I’m going to teach you cool facts about Maths, Science and cool stuff in general for you to gain more knowledge and brag about it to your parents and friends! With an educational guide made by the comic guy himself, you can be accompanied by cute cartoons while you absorb cool knowledge into your brain!
Pythagoras’ Theorem pronounced pai-tha-guh-rus, sounds hard but it’s pretty easy and cool to use! Note that it only works with a right angled triangle. But first, let’s label this dude!
So the sides are going to a, b, and c. A and b doesn’t really matter but the most important is c. C is the longest side and you can find it by cutting the right angle like this:
Now, remember the holy formulae: a2 + b2 = c2
This is just what it sounds like. One side of the triangle squared plus the other side of the triangle squared and you get the last side of the triangle, squared! Let’s practise with this example.
we need to save the triangle by finding c. Remember that you can swap a with b if you want to. So using the formulae:
a2 + b2 = c2
a = 3 so a2 equals 9. Because 3² equals 9.
b = 4 so b² equals 16. Because 4² equals 16
The formula tells us to add those two together so if we add those two we get 25.
Important: Remember that 25 is still squared so we need to find the square root to know what c is The square root of 25 is 5
Try these ones now! Remember - you can use a calculator!

Endangered Species
In our vast world there are a plethora of living creatures that want to peacefully co-exist with us But, because of overfishing, deforestation and habitat requirements being unachieved, 99%of living beings that once thrived are now extinct. And yes, I do know that a majority of them died out because of the mass asteroid extinction in the dinosaur era, and Charles Darwin‘s theory of natural selection, but another majority was from the killing of humans for consumption and other reasons like for fun, for wealth or as an achievement.
Read on to find out more about some endangered species
THE COMMON BOTTLENOSE DOLPHIN
There are approximately 600,000 Common Bottlenose Dolphins in the world that are alive. One of the main reasons to why they are endangered includes getting caught in fishing nets and gear. Others include: pollution, climate change, harmful toxins getting into the oceans and loud noises. On the other hand, people are trying to conserve dolphins and reducing waste that goes into the ocean. This has a significant effect on stopping them from becoming extinct.
JAGUAR
With only around 173,000 jaguars left in the wild, and 350 jaguars being killed yearly, the population of the jaguars are exceptionally low in numbers. Jaguars can be found in 19 countries throughout the rugged mountains of America and the rainforests in Brazil. The lands once ruled by jaguars are being destroyed by logging, large-scale agriculture, ranchland, and urban areas. Habitat fragmentation makes It incredibly difficult for these felines to hunt and mate, which poses a major threat to their population numbers and survival. However, humans are trying their best to restore the habitat and environment of the jaguars so they can hunt and find mates easier to increase the population.
gIANT PANDA
As few as 1,864 giant pandas live in their native habitat, while another 600 pandas live in zoos and breeding centers around the world. The largest threat to giant panda survival is habitat destruction. People in need of food and income have cleared forests for agriculture and timber, resulting in the death of many innocent and harmless pandas. In contrast, humans are heavily protecting habitats and creating many new reserves. China has created another 67 reserves in the recent years and that only leaves around 1/3 of all wild pandas roaming around the world.
THE BLUE WHALE
Before whaling, there may have been as many as 250,000 blue whales, but, today, it is one of the world’s rarest species, with a population of just 10,000-25,000. Sadly, blue whales face a multitude of threats from human interference. However, it is not too late to change their fate as scientists are researching about how to save their tragic numerical state.
Until recently, many people thought vaquitas were mythical creatures as few people had ever seen one. Fishing nets have brought these little porpoises to the brink of extinction. There are only around 10 left and unless urgent action is taken, they will soon be gone forever. Humans are trying to ban the manufacture and possession of Vaquitas to save them.
In conclusion, there are many animals that are endangered but humans are trying their best to save them before they are gone forever. HOW CAN YOU HELP?

PAUL’S SPORTS REPORT
As you may know, during the summer holidays, a very prestigious and remarkable sports event took place in Paris, France The summer Olympic games is a sports event that takes place during the summer time of every leap year Over the years, we have seen some remarkable performances from specific athletes in their respective sports
We have seen some great performances in many sports but first let's start with swimming One of the athletes that stood out was Summer Mcintosh of Canada, winning three gold and one silver medals at the games this year Moving on to the men's side, the star athlete was Leon Marchand; he won four gold medals as well as a bronze in the relay The men's 100m freestyle was a race never to be forgotten: Chinese swimmer Pan Zhanle touched the wall in a world record time of 46 40
Like in swimming, the sport of running and track and field has seen some incredible performances Noah Lyles, of the United States, ran an incredible 100m dash The highlight here was his finish where he finished only five thousandths of a second in front of Kishane Thompson of Jamaica, finishing in a time of 9 79 seconds, hence the fastest time this year Additionally, he managed to finish third in the 200m sprint just behind teammate Keneth Benarek and Olympic champion Letsile Tobogo Sadly, he did not run in the relay, because of covid issues
The men ' s basketball was a blowout for team USA, beating every team they were against with the only challenge being Serbia where they were down for the first three quarters but managed to pull off a massive comeback Furthermore, they managed a victory against France, marking the eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal for the nation
AN INCREDIBLE SUMMER GAMES!
Siku’s guide to food has been UPGRADED!
Now with details of the whole country and not just their food! I guess it’s a bit too late since the holidays have already passed but reading this series will get you hyped about your next holiday so you can have more time to convince your parents to go travelling! Like food fashion, every article is going to be about a different place every time. Today’s country is… Singapore! Singapore is a very close country. Thai people require no visa and it only takes 2 hours to fly there. By the way, I’m doing the entire country because Singapore is TINY! First, I’m going to give you tips to convince your parents to travel.
Fly in Economy. If you’re going to travel to a nearby country like Singapore, or basically any other flight that you don’t need to sleep in, flying in economy class would save you a lot of money. I actually have never flown in business class or first class before so I’m pretty ok with economy.
Convince your parents that you don’t need to stay there long. An exeat weekend is even enough time! Pretend the exeat is on Friday, so after school, go to the airport and go on a midnight flight to Japan/Korea (Singapore isn’t necessary for a midnight flight so just go to the airport Friday morning) and you will arrive at your destination in the morning! You have the rest of they day and the day after to travel and after that just book a flight on Sunday noon! You’ll arrive back in Thailand at about 18:00pm. Simple!
