We are the House Parents at Marshall House and it’s a huge privilege to be in this role. We have our own little boy, Freddie, and see the boarders as an extension of our family. Boarding is a unique environment. Children are usually a long way from home and it’s often the first time they’ve been away from

Weekly boarding:
Pupils enjoy 4 nights per week staying in school, and up to 3 nights at home from Friday until Sunday or Monday.
Full boarding: Pupils stay 7 nights per week and travel home for Exeats and holidays. Day boarding (1-2 fixed nights per week) is also available
their parents in this capacity. It’s hugely important that we create a space that offers comfort and a sense of belonging; a ‘home from home’ where each child has a voice within the community and is given the support needed to thrive in all areas of school life, and beyond. Far from diminishing the role of parents, boarding is a partnership between the school, the parent and the child. Within our wonderful international family of boarders, we help the children to develop as people, fostering loyalty, responsibility, resilience, kindness and courage. It makes us enormously proud to see boarders who pass through Marshall House leave as happy, confident children, fully equipped for the new challenges of life in the Senior School. Marshall House
The Marshall House crest of the rowan tree represents a symbol of good luck and protection, which is fitting for our youngest boarders. The house has 17 dormitories and children sleep in rooms of 4-6. Each bed has a board for photos and decoration, and there is a strong focus on personalising spaces to feel like your own. The house has large common rooms with pool tables, fuse ball, bean bags and games – ideal for relaxing or playing in free time. There is a communal kitchen for snacks and cookery activities, too. Our boarders share all meals, as we see this as a time where the community really comes together.
Meet the team Steve & Penny Dunn, Assistant House Parents Steve and Penny moved here from NZ in August 2018. Penny, a registered nurse for 22 years, and Steve, a maths teacher, wanted to give their family a new and exciting experience. The family have embraced life at RST and their three children (Georgia, Matty and Charlie) love spending evenings and weekends with the Marshall House boarders. Amanda Harper, Matron Amanda is the person who keeps the house running in order! From laundry to bed-making, and being first port of call at night, Amanda is much-loved by our boarders. Previously a research scientist, and an expert in Muay Thai, she has enough energy to entertain the children from sunrise to sunset‌ but luckily for her they have school in between, so she gets a bit of downtime each day.
