f.a.q. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I pitch my existing business? No. Queen’s Startup Summit is an initiative designed to incubate new businesses from scratch over the course of the weekend. A key element of QSS is the spirit of creativity and complete collaboration. We welcome researched and well vetted ideas.

Do I have to pitch an idea? No. Not all delegates are required to pitch an idea at the Summit.

How much time do I have for my pitch? Delegates will have 60 seconds to pitch their idea.

What types of ideas can I pitch? Any and all business ideas are eligible to be pitched at Queen’s Startup Summit. We’ve had past pitches range from environmental sustainability to mobile commerce apps.

What are the team requirements? Each team must have at least one General delegate, one Developer and one Designer. Team sizes will range from 4-7 delegates. There is a strict minimum of 4 delegates per team.

How do the top pitches get selected? After all pitches have been made, all delegates will be given time to mingle and discuss the ideas amongst each other. This is your chance to speak more about your pitched ideas and ask questions about other people’s ideas. Delegates will then have time to vote on their top 10 ideas; the most popular ideas will be selected.

What are we expected to have accomplished/present on Sunday? Teams will present their idea, their plan and their product to a panel of esteemed judges. While there are specific requirements, it would be in your best interest to incorporate a business model as well as the execution of your product. There will also be time for a Q&A from the judges.
