How Norfolk Got the Groove
Cromer Library will play host on Thursday 1 November to the previously untold story of how Norfolk and Norwich were amongst the first parts of Britain to hear the blues, as black American airmen came to the region bringing their hard rocking rhythm and blues records with them during the Second World War and the successive years.
On the weekends the clubs and pubs of Norwich were rammed and jammed to the sounds of imported records brought by USA servicemen who were bussed into town from the nearby air bases. Local musicians who were there tell their story of how black American culture influenced them.
The event, which starts at 6.30pm, is part of the COAST arts festival, and Norfolk Black History Month and has been funded by the Norfolk's American Connections project. It is free but please book by phoning 01263 512850 or email cromer.lib@norfolk.gov.uk

Dinner with de Bernières
One of Cromer’s oldest establishments – and newest restaurants - is welcoming East Anglia’s premier author in November.
Louis de Bernières, the man responsible for the international bestseller Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, which inspired a Hollywood blockbuster starring Nicholas Cage, is coming to The Grove in Cromer on 12th November as part of National Short Story Week.
The event, organised in conjunction with Salt Publishing and Cromer Library, will see a lucky audience enjoy a specially-created supper from head chef Gary Parrett before listening to a reading of de Bernières’ short story, written specifically for the weeks’ celebration. There will then be a question-and-answer session with the famous author during which the audience will be able to ask everything they’ve ever wanted to know about the process behind professional writing.
It’s the latest event in a busy season at the Overstrand Road establishment, first open as a guest house in 1936 by Robert and Hilda Graveling. The summer saw a very successful Jazz Tapas evening, as part of the Norfolk Food Festival, the Christmas Menu has been launched, and in 2013 the Grove is hosting the Lashings cricket team as part of their visit to Cromer CC.
Richard Graveling from the Grove said: “We’re very lucky to be able to welcome Mr. de Bernières to the Grove, and we feel very privileged to have such a well-known auhtor with us for the evening. “We hope we’ll be able to fill the place to the rafters with people keen to take part in National Short Story Week, and we’re delighted to be working with Salt Publishing and Cromer Library on this ventureâ€?.
To reserve your place call the Grove on 01263512412 or email enquiries@thegrovecromer.co.uk.
Sheringham & Cromer Lions Club

We hope to be able to donate ÂŁ1000 by the end of June 2013. Whilst there are other needy causes that may draw upon our funds, we have so far collected over ÂŁ800 since July. However the collecting ‘season’ is about at an end for this year as it becomes too cold to stand on street corners until about April. We would like to sincerely thank all those who have so far contributed to our collections – without their help we would not be able to support these very worthwhile I would like to change Roadorganisations. Cromer Times #408 October 20th 2012
North Norfolk praised for cleanliness and given five star award North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) has been recognised for keeping its communities very tidy and been handed a five star award for the cleanliness of the district.
NNDC’s efforts to keep the district clean have earned the award in the 2012 Clean Britain Awards.
Anonymous inspections assessed 13 key criteria, including general litter, chewing gum and smoking-related litter, fly-tipping, graffiti and the provision and condition of litter bins. North Norfolk was inspected in August, at the height of the holiday season.
Areas inspected included Fakenham town centre, high school and college and Wells Road; Holt High Street and Country Park; Sheringham High Street, sea front and train station; Cromer sea front, promenade and Cromwell Road; and North Walsham High Street and Market Place.
Comments in the official Clean Britain Awards report included:
“Holt could hardly be faulted with near perfect scores in the town centre and a perfect 100% in Holt Country Park with the latter receiving glowing praise from the judges.
“Cromer promenade was amazing given the high volume of people there in high season. The litter bin provision to cope with the additional footfall was excellent.
The area round Sheringham Station was said to be “only small but nonetheless, an extremely clean, pleasant and tidy entrance to the town. While North Walsham was praised for its “nice tidy town centre, and Fakenham was
Very Humourous
described as “an extremely well kept and tidy town.
John Lee, NNDC’s Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, Tourism, Leisure and Cultural Services, said, “Great efforts are made in North Norfolk to keep the environment clean and tidy for both visitors and people who live here. “We are very pleased to receive five stars, but equally it is important to maintain our efforts and ensure standards remain very high. “We can always do even better and will aim to do so in the future.
The awards are run by the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) in association with the British Cleaning Council and are open to all local authorities and other organisations involved in managing public spaces.
Steve Lee, chief executive of CIWM, said, “Our communities deserve well maintained and attractive public places and the Clean Britain Awards recognise and reward the efforts made by councils and other organisations to keep our local areas clean and welcoming. “The quality of our local environment contributes directly to our sense of wellbeing and civic pride and plays an important role in improving the economic prosperity of our towns, cities and rural districts.

National Trust joins fight to save traditional textile industry The National Trust is doing its bit to keep one of England’s most important traditional industries alive – thanks to pioneering work being carried out at Felbrigg Hall in Norfolk.
In a UK first, Felbrigg is hosting the pilot project for a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to preserve the time-honoured knowledge, skills and technology of England’s textile industry – important aspects of our heritage that face the threat of extinction.
Specialists from the Living Looms Project will be using traditional methods and machinery to create a replica of a historically important, vibrant Georgian carpet from Felbrigg Hall’s Gothic library. The original carpet dates from the 1830s and is now extremely faded and worn. When finished, the replica will be fitted as a replacement for the original, bringing the library back to life and giving visitors a taste of the room’s original grandeur.
Samples of the material have already been taken to the Living Looms Project for detailed analysis, to discover the carpet’s original colours – once thought to be lost forever.
“It is very exciting,” said Eleanor Akinlade, the National Trust’s house manager for Felbrigg Hall. “We’ve found out the original had vibrant plum purples, deep shades of green and impressive blues – completely different to the faded colours left after nearly 200 years of use and exposure to daylight.”
Results show the carpet is particularly noteworthy as it contains 29 colours in an intricate 3 ft by 3 ft floral design, making it a rare surviving example of a Printed Tapestry carpet.
“It is very important that initiatives like the Living Looms Project are successful,” added Eleanor. “The National Trust is founded on the principle of preserving our country’s heritage and open spaces forever, for everyone. If we want to maintain the intrinsic character of ageing properties like Felbrigg Hall well into the future, then we also need to preserve the traditional skills and machines that will make that possible.”

The Living Looms Project runs a small number of unique, late 19th century carpet looms from its workshop in Stourport-on-Severn in the West Midlands – the last looms of their kind in the world and the only looms capable of producing an acceptable replica of a Printed Tapestry carpet like the one in Felbrigg’s library.
Mo Mant, from the Living Looms Project, said: “England has already lost many of its traditional technologies, designs and skills and the textile industry has been one of the worst hit.
“Without the Living Looms Project, numerous more historic textiles, including carpets and tapestries, will disappear. That is why it is vital that we work hand-in-hand with conservation organisations like the National Trust. Once gone, these textiles will be lost forever.”
At present, most of the original library carpet is covered up with a protective layer of hard-wearing material. It will undergo conservation work before being placed in the Trust’s archives. It is expected the new carpet will be ready next year.

SHUDDERING SPIDERS... IT’S HALLOWE’EN ON THE POPPY LINE.
Hallowe’en half term starts on 27th October, and the Poppy Line is ready with a week that’s full of treats and more than a spooky trick or two.
Ghoulies and ghosties abound! At Weybourne Station, if you’re feeling brave
enough, you can enter the spook-laden Hallowe’en Hall, hellish haunt of witches, warlocks and shuddering spiders. You can get in (and out again!) free with your Rover train ticket.
There are some special treats, too. There’ll be spot prizes for the best-dressed Hallowe’enster (age limit 15). And if you bring a hollowed-out Hallowe’en pumpkin to help decorate one of our stations, you could win the Poppy Line Pumpkin Star prize of a free family ticket for next year’s visit of Thomas the Tank Engine at the beginning of May. And, of course, there’ll be a Ghost Train. On Hallowe’en itself, Wednesday October 31st, the Ghost Train will leave Sheringham at 6.30pm for a trip to Hallowe’en Hall and back. The fare is just £9.50 adult and £5 child (not suitable for under 8s) and may well include a refreshing little surprise.
The usual Rover fares apply all week for all normal service trains: £10.50 adult, £7.00 child 5 – 15 (under 5s free) and £9.50 senior citizen. The family ticket at £35 (2 adults + 2 children or 3 adults + 1 child) includes a £5 voucher to spend on refreshments or gifts.

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection
We have been advised of two more instances relating to stray cats recently. In the first instance the cat tended to wander round an area which had lots of visitors but was well known to the staff on the premises and most of their regular customers. Someone has now taken this cat, assuming it is a stray, and the owner is desperate to be reunited with her. Unfortunately she was not chipped. The staff at the premises which the cat visits believe they know the person who has taken the cat and are trying to contact them to arrange for the cat to be returned to its owner.
In the second instance Stephanie was advised there was “a stray in the area”, gave her usual advice relating to strays ( i.e. put a paper collar on the cat for a week or two to see if the owner can be located, check with vets and if possible take to them to check for a microchip). Unfortunately this advice was ignored and the cat was taken to vets in another town. When the vets scanned the cat they discovered it had been chipped but when checking for the owners’ name and address on the chip company website, found it had not been registered. We were contacted to see if it was one of our chips but were able to identify who had actually chipped the cat. Unfortunately, by this time (Saturday afternoon), the vets concerned were closed. As we had no room it was suggested that the people returned it from whence it came as it was obviously familiar with the area, but they refused to take it back. The cat was then taken to another charity and on Monday we contacted the vets concerned who fortunately had the owners’ details on their records and were able to contact them and let them know where their cat had been taken. The details had not been registered as the owners are at present moving house. If only people would accept the advice given them. If you are looking for a cat or kitten please give Stephanie a call on 01692 535858. Alternatively you can visit www.cats.org.uk/northwalsham for a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a call on the above number.
This "Tail" has an H in it
Have you ever felt left out, unloved, rejected or cast aside? If you have you will know what "H" feels like. He is a very loving, playful, good looking boy who has spent the last six months making loads of friends and learning to "high five" in a pub which was his home. Unfortunately for him the family split up and went their separate ways leaving him back in our kennels. He was obviously a bit down for a while wondering what he had done. Of course he had done nothing but be a super pet and good friend to many people of all ages. He is much loved here at our kennels but is still a bit subdued and not the happy boy he has been. He really loves people and is very good with other dogs having lived with a spaniel (also re-homed). "H" has always been affectionate and a favourite with our volunteers, he loves cuddles and fuss, is easy to walk and handle and has been, and will be again, a very lovely pet to own.
If you think you could give "H" a loving home and would like to meet him, get more information or arrange a home check, contact Homefinding Co-ordinator David Jones (Beeston Regis) through the Homefinders local rate call number 0845 458 3797.
Remember, Remember it’s Fireworks
01263 822293
Every year, around the 5th November, we are inundated with owners requesting medication to help their pets through the firework celebrations of the following days, which seem to extend now into weeks. This year we want to get the message out there early ………….
WE CAN HELP!
There are products on the market now which may help relieve the anxiety felt by many pets during this period. Years ago the only option was sedation, which not only contra-indicated in older pets or those with cardiac problems, but could also give unpredictable results, leaving you with a hyperactive dog during the firework display and a sleepy dog for the next 2 days! The key to successful treatment and a stress free bonfire night is to act early. Get your dog or cat taking anti-anxiety medication a few days before the event so the treatment is already working before the bangs start. These products are not ‘drugs’ they are made of natural plant extracts or milk proteins with proven results to alleviate symptoms of stress and promote calm. Tips to help your pet cope on Bonfire night: • Create a den in a familiar room using blankets draped over a table and a bed underneath it • Leave the radio or television on as background noise • Pull the curtains and keep the lights on to conceal the flashes of fireworks • DO NOT REACT in any way to the noise or flashes – IGNORE IT! • Expect the unexpected – fear makes animals do strange things, try not to get cross or react, it’s because they are frightened • Once firework night is over and New Year has passed embark on a desensitisation programme using behaviour modification, positive reinforcement and ZYLKENE before it all starts again!
Pretty for us, not great for many animals
ZYLKENE is a product that along with behaviour modification programmes may be used long or short term. You need to start the medication BEFORE the fireworks start and continue it through the firework season. A complete desensitisation program can be developed by the nurses at the practice AFTER the firework season has finished, which may be February the following year as embarking on such a program when fireworks are still going off will not work. CALMEX is another product available to help in times of stress, you only need to give the capsule 30-60 minutes before the desired effect is required, making your pet feel safe and calm, so if you do leave it late or your pet suddenly becomes stressed you can still help. Both products have many other uses as well as bonfire night including a one off trip to the vets for a manicure, or a stay in the cattery or kennels. None of the products are prescription medication; they can be bought over the counter at reception without seeing the vet. For more information and to discuss your pets individual needs please telephone the surgery, or visit www.zylkene.co.uk for helpful advice about coping with fireworks.

Free Spooky Fun at Bure Valley Railway!
Throughout the half term holiday, 27 October to 4 November, the Bure Valley Railway will be holding its popular children’s event, “The Spooky Express”.
Trains will operate throughout each day from both Aylsham and Wroxham Stations (see timetable). A children’s competition to see how many spooky items can be spotted on the train journey, a colouring corner and a decorated Whilstlestop Café add to this themed event. Also, the Railway’s resident Bear will be dressed up for the occasion to welcome each train at Aylsham Station.
To make this a truly family friendly event, the Railway is giving free travel for every child when accompanied by a fare-paying adult (maximum of 2 children per adult, train only). No prior booking required.
Susan Munday, Business Manager and organiser of this event, says, “Children of all ages can enjoy lots of spooky fun without it being too scary!”
LOTTERY NOW AT OVERSTRAND Good news for Overstrand residents and the surrounding villages.
As it has just been awarded the National Lottery by Camelot, and are now able to sell both online and instants tickets to customers. This is a huge boost for the shop and the local residents as previously anyone in the area wanting to play had to travel all the way into Cromer.
This is in addition to the fact that the Post Office which was relocated into the store is now firmly established and apart from offering all the traditional services of a Post Office, it also has Euros on demand. Within the shop there is also available (perhaps the only one in the area) a FREE TO USE Cash Machine. The shop is very well stocked and apart from all the normal items such as groceries it also has an off license, news papers and magazines, seasonal and seaside gifts. Everyone is welcomed in the busy village shop by Michael and his long standing staff.

C & M white Young People in Norfolk support The Matthew Project’s Campaign to raise £40,000 for a new Voicebox caravan.
Voicebox is the Matthew Project’s mobile youth caravan which has been successfully used for many years to engage with young people in local communities bringing positive change but it needs replacing. The Voicebox travels approximately 40,000 miles each year and £40,000 is needed to fund a new Voicebox and towing vehicle. This week the charity launched its campaign to raise this amount with the current Voicebox outside the Forum in Norwich.
Staff will be on hand all day to talk about the work that it does and how essential a new Voicebox is for that work to continue and what it is likely to look like. Young people will also be present between 11am and 1pm to talk about the benefits of having the Voicebox come to them.

Dear Grumpy Old Man
I am 100% with you. You do not stand alone in this respect. I, too, do not use a computer and have been subject to similar experiences.
Fortunately I have a wife who can work the box and two children who will, if sometimes reluctantly, press all the appropriate buttons to get me what I want. The only advantage of the ‘plastic god’ is to make things quicker but at my age I can afford the time. Seems that to cram everything possible in to every minute of every day (even on holiday!) is the norm now but hey! Are things any better with computers? Nope!! Notice when the computerised system in your local shop fails to perform, no purchases can be made. The favoured excuse for inaction is ‘the computer’s down’. Ask for something and the reply might well be ‘the computer won’t let me do that!’ Whatever the machine says is right – brainpower is eroded.
We are supposed to talk through the box via e-mail thus doing away with the art of conversation, letter writing and/or penmanship.
I don’t advocate a return to the past but those in the present should acknowledge that until every last dinosaur has left the planet, consideration should be given to those who want to wallow in the luxury of yesteryear. Grumpies unite!!! Terry Dacktill (correct name and address supplied)

Dear Grumpy Old Man
Having read your item in The Cromer Times dates 6 October complaining about computer use and how difficult you find it – your problems probably started with those 2 hour classes. I first acquired a computer at age 60 – 13 years ago – and am self taught. I now run an online mail order business as well as a designer/maker business and B&B – all have their own websites and would not exist without an online presence. Anyone not computer literate now is cut off from so much. Skype for contacting friends and family in far flung parts of the world – this is a free mode of keeping in really good contact with children, grandchildren and friends. Shopping online for groceries if one is housebound or unable to drive in this rural area where one can be very isolated. All one needs is to use email and Google for all these contacts and information. Trouble is if you can’t - then you don’t know what you are missing.
Don’t be so luddite – it’s not helpful to others and its negative. Many older people are very computer savvy and enjoy all the benefits from this. Facebook, Twitter and all the rest are optional! Jan Horrox

Funding available for fishing vessel modernisation
Fishermen in England are being reminded that money is still available through the European Fisheries Fund (EFF) to help improve vessel safety and selectivity.
Projects costing around £1,000 or more may qualify for around 40 per cent funding (or more) through the EFF. However, you must apply to the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) before any work is carried out.
Funding is available for non-mandatory safety equipment such as safety rails and flotation devices which will increase the safety of fishing crews when at sea. It may also be possible to receive funding for projects that will lead to more sustainable fishing and improved working conditions.
Over £1 million of European Fisheries Fund money has been awarded to fishermen for vessel modernisation projects but further funding is still available. The money needs to be applied for and committed before December 2013 although projects can continue after this date.
One fisherman to have benefited is Mr. Anthony Hendy. He received over £1000 for a life raft and new fuel tanks which improved onboard safety as well as the ability to help other vessels if needed. He has also recently been awarded funding of over £1000 for a project to install new windows for the vessel’s wheelhouse which will enhance safety and working conditions by improving visibility and insulation. Work will begin later this year.
He said “Without the EFF I wouldn’t have been able to modernise my vessel. I also feel safer at sea knowing I have a life raft on board. Not having to handle fuel cans every day has improved my working conditions and saved me time. Having the extra fuel on board also means I am available to help other vessels that are in trouble if needed. I would encourage other fishermen to apply for EFF money. I had no problems and found the application process straightforward. On both occasions staff at the MMO coastal office were on hand to answer questions and check my forms.” It is very important that fishermen contact the EFF team before any project is started. EFF England Programme Manager, Catherine Murphy, explains “The level of funding available depends on individual circumstances, however people could save a significant proportion of the money they are going to spend and we really don’t want them to miss out. I would encourage anyone who’s thinking about making improvements on their vessel to call us as soon as possible to discuss their ideas. It may be that we discover they qualify for other funding too. We can’t support work that’s already been carried out, or items that have already been purchased so it’s really important people speak to us before committing to anything.”
The minimum award for funding is £500, therefore to qualify projects must cost at least £1,000, depending on the size of vessel and type of fishing activity carried out. It is possible to combine the safety equipment with other vessel investments to make the application reach this amount.
Alternatively, fishermen’s associations and producers’ organisations can apply for funding for several items to be shared out among the group.
Some of the safety improvements previously funded through EFF in England include:
• A portable salvage pump to be used in case of flooding. This was bought by a vessel owner with £600 provided through EFF.
• Non-slip deck work on a vessel. £660 was provided through EFF.
• Installing a self-shooting door on a vessel. This reduced the risk of accidents caused by coiled ropes and stacked pots on the deck area. £3,000 was provided through EFF.
• Purchasing and installing a new generator to provide additional power for safety working lights. £5,080 was provided through EFF.
Engine replacements can also be considered which can reduce costs and increase energy efficiency. Improvements to hygiene, such as refrigeration equipment and ice makers could also receive funding.
For more information on funding go to
www.marinemanagement.org.uk/ fisheries/funding/eff.htm or call 0300 123 1032 as soon as possible.

How I admire the paralympians So clever and so young. They entered the races Full of expertise and fun. Three cheers for Ellie Simmonds, She has such a happy face, I sat on the edge of my seat, Watching her race. Everyone was cheering. My goodness, what a din. With every splash of water, They were willing her to win. Ellie is 17 and proudly won a gold,
These young athletes are making me feel old. Hannah Cockroft and David Weir Sped on wheels like the wind, Without legs or pedals I felt sure they would win. The finale was fantastic, Ending with a heart of lights, Surrounding all the athletes, Such a magical sight.

Do your eyes give your age away? Erase signs of ageing with a laser, safely and quickly. Try the Madonna lift at the Coltishall Cosmetic Clinic.
Dr Sanjay Gheyi MBBS MS FRCS BCAAM Medical director and laser surgeon at the Coltishall Cosmetic Clinic explains.
You feel good but the mirror tells a different story! Women and men believe the body part that most reveals their age is the eye area, followed by hands and facial skin.
They want simple aesthetic solutions that help them look as good as they feel and minimise the early signs of sun damage. One in three want to erase their skin’s fine lines and wrinkles.
About nine out of ten patients seeking to look younger want to do so without going under the knife. They wish to avoid surgery, the anesthesia, the down-time and the added expense. We have been using a CO2 laser for three years with amazing results and it achieves all of these consistently. This procedure is called a fractional eyelift or Madonna lift.
It is an alternative to eyelid surgery? Fractional eye lift or the so called Madonna Lift improves wrinkles around the eyes, tightens eyelid skin, improves skin texture and can elevate eyebrows. This fractional laser procedure can help you avoid surgery with associated risks and downtime.
What is fractional eye lift or Madonna Lift? The Madonna Lift is a new type of laser eye lift. It utilizes an innovative fractional CO2
laser which creates tiny microscopic channels in the tissue so that new collagen can grow in to rejuvenate the skin.
What are the advantages of fractional eye lift or Madonna Lift? Fractional carbon dioxide laser produces tiny micro beams of laser light. These beams remove tiny fractions of skin so that fresh skin with renewed elasticity can grow back in its place. Because only a fraction of the skin is removed, healing is very quick and virtually
painless. It produces results similar to eyelid surgery, without the risks and downtime!
How do I know if I am a suitable? If you have wrinkles around the eyes, loose eyelid skin, crow’s feet, dark circles or drooping eyebrows, you can benefit from fractional eye lift or Madonna Lift.
What happens during the procedure? Local anaesthetic cream is applied to the eyelids and skin around the eyes to numb it. Local anaesthetic eye drops are used before
placing metal shields to protect the eyes. Laser beam is then used all over the eyelids and skin around the eyes. The metal shields are then removed. There is immediate visible skin tightening and redness like mild sunburn, There is no bruising.
How many days of ‘downtime’ are needed? Two-three days of mild redness and dryness in the area treated, one can use make up and usually return to normal activities in three-four days’ time.
Is this procedure painful? As the skin is this area is very thin the laser settings used are very gentle. It is only a mild heat and burning sensation and easily tolerated. How many sessions are needed? The number of sessions depends on the individual changes present. On average, most people need between one-four sessions spaced two-four weeks apart. If you have early changes then only one session will be required but if you have more significant changes then more sessions are needed.
How long will the results last? Results vary from patient to patient but as your body continues to heal and create new strong and healthy collagen in your lids and your eyes, you will continue to see improvements for many months afterwards. Results should last for several years but as your skin continues to age, it is recommended you prolong the results with good eye creams and sun protection.

The past three months were dominated by lower than normal pressure which allowed for a lot of cloud and plenty of heavy showers. Temperatures varied but overall they were about average with only one hot spell around 21-25 July.
OCTOBER - pressure is likely to be a little higher than average which should give us a reasonable month. However, a long run of fine days is not expected and temperatures will fall away towards the end of the month as the weather becomes more mobile for a time.
NOVEMBER - Overall the month will benefit from higher than average pressure and although there will be some cyclonic activity the emphasis

will be on fair weather with temperatures average or above.
DECEMBER - More mobile as we progress into the month as cyclonic activity becomes more pronounced. The odd frosty night until about the 24th when it looks as if high pressure will move in across the northern half of the country bringing a spell of colder weather although this should be on the way out by the end of the month.
As we look into early January the weather will become much more unsettled again.

Cromer and Sheringham Probus Club Members, twoguests and one visitor attended the lunch on 2 October. The meal supplied by the Links Hotel, West Runton was well received and then we moved into the function room for coffee and the talk.
Graeme Simmonds’ presentation was based upon the many “recovered artefacts” which he had brought along. He selected items in turn, telling us how he had come across them and involving us in discussion about their purpose and historical implications. Graeme demonstrated the depth and breadth of his knowledge relating to flint axes, clay pipes,
buckles, coins and other assorted finds.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday 6 November, when the topic after lunch will be “Cars with a difference” presented by David Morton. He has told us little about the content as he wishes to retain an element of surprise, but he did let on that it involves plenty of interaction with the audience.
David is a mechanical engineer by profession and still works in that field, fitting in a considerable number of talks to groups of all ages, including Probus Clubs.
If you are a retired, or nearly retired, gentleman and you like the sound of a monthly lunch followed by a speaker, you are very welcome to come along as a visitor and try us out. If you are interested, please contact Dave Vickery on 01263 824306 or e-mail candsprobus@hotmail.co.uk.
Since the last meeting, one of the guests has applied to join and the visitor has also said that he would like to join so, if you pay us a visit, you will not be the only “new boy”.
There is no requirement to live in either Cromer or Sheringham and whether you are an established resident or a newcomer to the area, you will get a warm welcome.

Cabinet Members will be told that while the majority of people are able to live independently without the need for assistance, some need help to find accommodation, and others will need support, for example, to address a reduction in mobility, or health or following bereavement. An action plan has been prepared to show how the council intends to support those in such need.

NNDC Cabinet Member for Strategic Housing, Trevor Ivory, said, “This is the third of three very important documents that together form the council’s strategic approach to housing.
