Crab & Lobster Festival 2013 is launched Nip along to North Norfolk

This May Cromer and Sheringham will host the fourth Crab & Lobster Festival – a feast of fun, food, art, music, heritage and entertainment – and there are more opportunities than ever to get involved.

A full and varied programme will take place across the Festival weekend 17-19 May. On Thursday 24 January an evening of lifebuoys, film and seafood launched the 2013 Festival.

The Crab & Lobster Festival will kick off the coming holiday season with an Opening Concert on at Cromer Pier’s Pavilion Theatre on Friday 17 May. Hosted by the ever-popular Olly Day the concert will feature music by the renowned Sheringham Shantymen, internationally-respected singer John Conolly and comedy by Nigel ‘Boy’ Sayer. Action Fraud

Norfolk and Suffolk are to join a national scheme aimed at enhancing fraud investigations and cutting the amount of time officers spend taking reports of crime.

On 14 January both forces started using Action Fraud - the UK’s national fraud reporting centre - which will act as a central point of contact for all information about fraud and financially-motivated internet crime.

Instead of officers taking reports themselves, they will redirect victims to Action Fraud where staff will receive reports, on-line or on the telephone. The reporting facility is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week through www.actionfraud.police.uk. There have been over 1 million unique visitors to the Action Fraud website since its inception.

Information provided will be assessed within Action Fraud and where a crime is established, it will be recorded and the victim provided with a national crime reference number. Those crimes and other information reports are then transferred securely each day to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB), City of London Police. There, all crimes and information reports are analysed. This will leave just those crimes where there are actionable lines of enquiry to follow up which will then be returned as ‘packages’ to forces for

All Forces have agreed to participate in the scheme by April 2013. Action Fraud, a service run by the National Fraud Authority with the NFIB will provide numerous benefits:

• A single point of contact for reporting all fraud • Joined up intelligence which will lead to more targeted enforcement action • An effective and time-efficient route to reporting fraud • An enhanced preventative approach nationally

Additionally, Action Fraud will free up officer time to focus only on actionable investigations, provide intelligence that can be used for preventative work, and in creating a standardised reporting system will ensure Forces have a greater understanding and awareness of national threats.

Directorate, Detective Superintendent Alan McCullough said: “Joining Action Fraud will provide both forces with an enhanced and consistent service to victims of fraud. Where the victim is reporting a crime that requires action there and then, or is assessed to be vulnerable, we will continue to deal with the report as normal. But for all other reports, the victim will make contact with Action Fraud, by logging on to its website or via the telephone. Increased intelligence helps prevent other people from becoming victims themselves your information can help to root out fraudsters and prevent future crimes. In addition, a central collection of crime reports enables seemingly unrelated incidents from around the country to be linked through analysis, helping identify networks of criminals. Clearly, such a system has the potential to save us hundreds of hours spent filling in reports. It provides the public throughout the UK with one single point of contact and will mean that our time is spent investigating and preventing such offences in the first place”.

More than Curtains and Linens

If you haven't popped into Cromer Curtains and Linens recently, now would be a good time. They are about to celebrate their first anniversary of the transformation. The new look layout has impressed customers, who offer continuous, positive feedback, encouraging the owners Jayne and Jeff Bowyer, as the business goes from strength to strength. It's not just Curtains and Linens though. The Wool department sells some of the biggest names in the Wool world, including Sirdar, Stylecraft and King Cole, with some of the best, if not the best prices, in North Norfolk. Jayne commented, "And you don't even have to buy the wool to get the pattern." The store does offer a great choice of Ready-Made and Customised Curtains, with hundreds of different designs, with customers able to take samples home to ensure the colour scheme is right. "We also offer the widest choice of net curtains in Norfolk," commented Jeff. To complement this, they have an extensive range of Voile Panels. Also in the Soft Furnishings department is Bedding, Towels and lots more besides. Much more than Curtains they said, and that is certainly true - the Gift department offers a modern, contemporary, ever-changing range, which

includes Picture Frames, to complement any occasion. Greetings Cards, for all events, as well as the Toy department, which also offers pocket money toys. Last but not least there is the Leather Goods department, featuring the latest fashion bags coupled with Luggage, Belts, Wallets and Purses. Something for everyone and well worth popping into the Cromer Shopping Centre next time you're near Garden Street.

THE ACOUSTIC STRAWBS

“Hearing the brilliant Strawbs [at the Edmonton Folk Festival] was like a tutorial in UK folk music from the past 40 years. (Edmonton Sun)

THE ACOUSTIC HEARTBEAT OF STRAWBS

The year 2012 marks the 43rd anniversary of the release of the first Strawbs album on A&M Records.

Acoustic Strawbs are David Cousins, Dave Lambert, and Chas Cronk, the front-line of the classic 1970s line-up of Britain’s most successful international folk-rock band, and who tour regularly as Acoustic Strawbs.

In the early 1970s Strawbs scored chart success in Britain with huge albums such as ‘Grave New World’ and ‘Bursting at the Seams’. From the mid-1970s as the group concentrated their attention on the United States and Canada where their albums, including the classics ‘Hero and Heroine’ and ‘Ghosts’, spent over fifty two weeks on the Billboard charts. Strawbs toured with the likes of Santana, Peter Frampton, The Eagles, REO Speedwagon, Joe Walsh, Blue Oyster Cult, King Crimson, and Frank Zappa.

“Unlike many groups that are past their commercial prime and churn out inferior, dispirited versions of the hits from their glory days, the Acoustic Strawbs stand out as a band that performs their old material with passion and precision. Furthermore, they have broken new ground by harnessing the power of their electric incarnation in an acoustic setting.” (Chicago Tribune) www.strawbsweb.co.uk

David Cousins, leader of Strawbs, was awarded BPI platinum discs in recognition of worldwide sales of the albums ‘Grave New World’ and ‘Bursting at the Seams’. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2002, and was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Rick Wakeman on behalf of the Classic Rock Society.

Rick Wakeman played with the Strawbs for two years before moving on to achieve world-wide success with Yes, and as a solo artist. The much-loved Sandy Denny made an album with the Strawbs before she joined Fairport Convention.

Acoustic Strawbs shows receive rave reviews – “Carefully selecting their repertoire from less than obvious sources they invest the rarely performed material with considerable energy and thoughtful arrangements.”- (Record Collector)

Crab & Lobster Festival 2013 is launched at Cliftonville Hotel ... Continued from front cover

The Festival weekend continues in Cromer on Saturday 18 May and in Sheringham on Sunday 19 May with a programme which promises a feast of superb seafood, scintillating street entertainment, music, comedy, film, seafood competitions, the World Pier Crabbing Championships and the return of the Festival’s art trail. In 2013 the Festival will concentrate on highlighting the local seafaring heritage of Cromer and Sheringham through live demonstrations of fishing crafts where audiences can also ‘have a go’, crab dressing competitions as well as cookery demonstrations from local and national chefs and fish specialists. This week the Festival launched a range of ways in which local businesses, schools, community groups and individuals can get involved with this year’s celebrations. Central to this is the Lifebuoy Art Trail which will run in the same spirit as the decorated windbreaks in 2012. For the sum of £50 or £60 sponsors will be supplied with a 24” or 30” primed, plastic lifebuoy to decorate and display as part of the Festival’s Art Trail which will run from Easter until August 2013. At the end of the trail all the windbreaks will go into the Grand Windbreak Auction on Sunday 25 August. The first 100 lifebuoys are now available to sponsor. Alongside the Lifebuoy Art Trail the Festival is encouraging artists, designers and creative’s of all ages and abilities to enter their second Poster Design Competition where one lucky winner will see their design turned into 2013s official Festival poster. Details of the competition can be found on the Festival website, the deadline is Friday 1 March.

The Festival would like to see as many people as possible getting involved. Chairman Tony Shipp said “We are delighted to start the year on such a positive note. We hope the Lifebuoy Art Trail will be as successful as the windbreaks, it’s a great way for visitors to explore the area and see what North Norfolk has to offer.” He added “we are also running the Festival’s Poster Design Competition where people

can design the Festival’s official poster for 2013, entries are already coming in”. With over 40 events and an expanded street theatre programme this year’s festival offers an abundance of fun for all the family across the week Festival secretary Kate Royall said “In 2012 the Festival achieved enormous successes. Over 20,000 people enjoyed the Festival weekend, thousands followed the art trail and hundreds of people entered the poster design competition and we hope this year’s Festival, with an expanded programme of free events, will achieve the same success and bring more people to this fabulous area”. For more information on the Lifebuoys, Poster Design Competition, volunteering with the Festival and many other opportunities please see the website www.crabandlobsterfestival.co.uk or call 07775 337201.

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection

Firstly, I am happy to advise you that Penny, the little cat in the photograph last time, has left for a new home, together with another young cat called Jimbo. Several other cats and kittens have also been chosen including Moya, one of our long term residents. We are particularly pleased that she has finally found a loving home as she and her kittens were dumped on someone’s doorstep in a cardboard box last year. Needless to say, their places have quickly been filled and we still have cats and kittens waiting to join us.

As I look out of my window this evening and see the ground covered in snow it brings to mind the wonderful work our fosterers do. Most of the cats that are in care are housed in pens in their gardens. Whatever the weather the cats need feeding and watering and their pens need to be cleaned and litter trays changed. Hot or cold, wet or windy, their fosterers will be there to care for them. Fortunately all the pens are heated and the cats also have heat pads to keep their beds warm and cosy. The litter tray is outside the housing unit but in extreme conditions the food and water are put inside. Taking the cats to the vets for their checks, to be vaccinated or because they are ill is just another facet of the care they provide. They are also very accommodating when people come to see their charges, as potential new owners. They do all this as well as looking after their Ginny, one of our older cats. families and their own animals, She came in with sister Stella because plus some of them go to work of a relationship breakdown. too. They really are wonderful, dedicated cat lovers and we really appreciate what they do.

Gas Boilers to Golf Balls! Way back in 1995 Ray Adams set up Aquaflow Plumbing & Heating after leaving the police.

Over the years Ray gradually specialised the business to focus on Gas servicing, breakdowns and repairs. In April 2007 son Chris

moved back to Norfolk and joined the firm as a partner engineer. The office and administration was firstly managed by Ray’s daughter, Emma, and now by Chris’s wife, Heidi. It is important to them to keep the company family led and run to enable a more personal approach.

Over the intervening years they have become specialised in installation work and plumbing as well as adding qualifications in LPG and Oil (OFTEC) heating, offering a more comprehensive service to the North Norfolk area. The 'of Sheringham' part of the name was added a few years ago to ensure a unique, local and community-based feel to the business, something they feel is important.

Now changes are afoot - founder Ray is going to take retirement as from 31 January. To enable the company to maintain it’s current high level of service though, more staff were needed. Joining the firm is Simon Patrick, a fully qualified Gas Engineer and former sub-contractor for the company. Filling out the team is Dan Birchnall, who was taken on as Trainee Heating Engineer in 2011, a pleasant, local lad, with great customer skills and commitment.

Chris will now be Senior Partner and will lead the team, but will still be able to call on the services of his dad. "He has a great knack of being able to faultfind," commented Chris, "and I am pleased that he will still be available when we get really busy for

Chris, Heidi, Dan & Simon want to wish Ray best wishes in his retirement and promise not to disturb his golf too much!!

Bear-Paying Passenger Returns!

After the success of last year’s Teddy Bear Express at the Bure Valley Railway this event returns for the children’s half term holiday from 16th to 24th February.

The Railway Bear will take charge again at Aylsham Station to ensure nine days of fun for all the family!

Trains will operate from both Aylsham and Wroxham stations three times per day. A children’s competition to see how many teddy bears can be spotted on the train journey, a colouring corner and a decorated Whistlestop Café add to this teddy bear themed event.

All that is required now is lots of children with their teddy bears so that the Railway Bear is not lonely! The Railway is giving free travel for every child when accompanied by a fare-paying adult (maximum two children per adult). No prior booking required. Cromer Times #414 Feburary 2nd 2013

Dear Margaret

I have on occasion enlisted the help of the Norfolk locals to help with books, materials and equipment whilst at Paston gaining my A levels and then later on when I went to NUCA to complete my degree. All I can say is a huge thank you to everyone who not only helped me, but other students too, as the books and materials were used by not only me but everyone. I am now in a very fortuitous position, my husband has given me his hobby room, so I am trying to set up my studio space and I was wondering if anyone has got an old plan chest they no longer use or need or are throwing away I would be very grateful for anything in any condition, as long as I can use it, that I could have to store my artwork please or being very cheeky any old wine crates, that i could possibly turn into storage? In fact any equipment that is no longer in use would be gratefully received, I am an avid recycler and if I cannot make use of something it would be passed onto someone who could. Thank you for your time and I hope that I can make use of your unwanted art items. Yours sincerely Sarah Faulkes, Tel 07969692902

Dear Margaret

I have on occasion enlisted the help of the Norfolk locals to help Are carbon cuts by developed countries cancelled out by imported goods? I understand the Kyoto protocol means that carbon footprints are calculated for countries producing goods, not those consuming them. If this is correct, then cuts in carbon emissions by developed countries since 1990 have been cancelled out by increases in imported goods from developing countries such as China. Whilst ‘rich’ countries claim they are reducing their emissions are they not simply exporting them ‘offshore’? Developed countries claim to have reduced their emissions by 2% between 1990 and 2008, however if carbon cost of imports have been added, evidence would suggest that there has in fact been an overall increase of 7%. In the same period for example it is estimated that the UK emissions fell by 28 million tonnes, but when imports are taken into account then the domestic footprint has risen by some 100 million tonnes. However accurate these figures may or may not be, it is obvious that the overall carbon emissions should include the total to which we are directly responsible for, together with those emissions that can be attributed to our imports. M S Norman Roughton

Dear Grumpy Old Man

While you are expounding on the subject of accuracy, with which much of the sentiment I would agree, could I point pout that it was Bill Haley, not Hailey, that was helping to make your point. Yours in Accuracy P. E. Dan Tick

CROMER HONOURS YEAR ENDED 31st DECEMBER 2013

The Cromer Town Council Award Scheme to recognise significant achievement by an individual, or group, enters its 15th year. So far well over 100 people or groups have received the award, which is presented by the Mayor of Cromer at the Annual Town Meeting which will be held on Friday 26 April 2013. Every year one hears of work or a deed being done within our community which enhances the quality of life in our town or of its inhabitants. Much of this work by its very nature, goes largely unrecognised and may not be fully appreciated by the community at large. Who is eligible for an Award? Any person, young or old, and group or organisation, is eligible to be considered. The Council is looking towards anyone who has made a significant contribution to the quality of an individual, or wider community life in Cromer, during the last year. If you know someone, a group or organisation, who you feel should be considered for an award, please complete the form on the reverse and return to the Town Council by noon on 31 January 2013.

NOTES FROM MEETINGS

Items of interest are listed below. Full copies of the minutes are available on the Town Council website. Promotions & Development Committee – 11 December 2012 Village Games – It was agreed to recommend to Full Council that Cromer take part in the Village Games and invite Active Norfolk to run a road show in the spring. Town Standard – Mayor’s Car – Members were in receipt of a quotation for a standard to be used by the Mayor when on official duty. It was noted that the Mayor had offered to

personally pay for this. Cromer Apps – It was noted that the Chamber of Trade had launched two apps which are free at the point of contact via their website. There is also a diary section on the website. Clubs and societies are invited to contact Peter Stibbons with details of events for inclusion. Morris Minor Owners Club – A letter had been received asking permission to hold a rally on the promenade in 2013. This had been passed to NNDC to progress. Planning Transportation & Environment Committee – 10 January 2013 Former Tourist Information Centre at Cromer Bus Station – It was noted that works to demolish the building should commence on 04 March 2013. West Street – It was agreed to support the proposal for H bars to be installed on West Street but to object to KEEP CLEAR signs. A148 Holt Road Bridge - Cllrs. Eastwood and Cox advised that they had met with the Steps to Safety Campaigners to help progress the campaign for a 30mph speed limit. It was requested that this be placed on the agenda of the next full council meeting in order that the Clerk can be asked to write to Aylmerton and Runton Parish Councils to request their support for a 30mph speed limit. Cllr. Cox advised that Felbrigg Parish Council strongly support the need for a mini- roundabout especially with the anticipated increase in traffic due to the new businesses opening on the A148. Coastal Access - Members were disappointed that the section of coastal path between Cromer and Overstrand would be along the beach rather than the cliff top. It was agreed to ask the clerk to write to Royal Cromer Golf Club asking that in the interests of tourism and the local economy that they reconsider the loss of the cliff top footpath between Cromer and Overstrand. This is on the presumption that the golf club objected to the consultation for the coastal path. It was also agreed to instruct the Clerk to contact NCC to request that the signage of the Norfolk Coast Path be improved. Residents’ Parking - The Deputy Clerk read an email from a resident of Cabbell Road and Cllr. Cox read a letter from a resident of Cross Street. Both were in respect of the need for a residents’ parking scheme. It was agreed to reply to both residents advising that the public will be consulted on residents’ parking via the forthcoming Parish Plan Consultation and encouraging them to complete and return the questionnaire which is to be delivered to each household in Cromer.

News from the White Horse Overstrand with Head Chef Nathan Boon

We have some terrific plans for the coming year and I am delighted to be able to announce one of the first of our new menus is the exciting ‘Tasting Menu’, which we are launching on 22 February. This amazing Five Course set meal, offering the very best produce from across East Anglia, will be available every Thursday to Sunday evening in our Barn Restaurant. Priced at just £30 per person, there is certain to be lots of interest, so my advice is to book early.

If you are celebrating Valentine’s Day on 14 February our romantic Three Course Meal at just £22 per person is ideal. Served in our restaurant it is a great way of treating the one you love. If you prefer to wait until the weekend then our Five Course Meal is perfect. At just £30 per person it is the ideal Valentine’s treat. Or if you prefer, try our special Valentine’s Sharers Menu just £20 per couple, served in the bar with music from the Norfolk Jazz Quartet live in the bar from 8.30pm.

Mother’s Day is fast approaching and we have decided to offer our very popular ‘Family Roast Sharer Menu’. Choose one of our three

roast meats cooked to your requirements and brought to your table for you to carve and share with all the family. With a selection of seasonal vegetables and all the trimmings, I don’t think there is a better way to celebrate Mother’s Day.

It is a great jam to have in the house its versatility makes it an ideal accompaniment to roasts, bacon or cheese sandwiches or simply add a spoonful to your favourite snack. CROMER AND DISTRICT GARDEN SOCIETY At our first meeting of 2013 we were pleased to welcome Thomas Spencer from Pensthorpe who updated us on recent developments at the 200 acre farm and reserve just outside Fakenham.

Ten per cent of land is set aside for conservation purposes. English Longhorn cattle and pure bred Norfolk sheep are two rare breeds that the owners are trying to protect. In the last 60 years 97% of the wildflower meadows in the UK have been lost and so an attempt is being made to restore this habitat on part of the reserve. There is a range of gardens to see including the Millenium Garden which featured when the BBC Springwatch programme was broadcast from Pensthorpe a year or two ago. The Habitat Garden has been planted to attract insects and butterflies and the Wave Garden contains early flowering plants such as snowdrops, primulas and tulips. The River Wensum flows through the reserve and is home to otters, water voles and mink, the latter being more of a pest than something worthy of conservation.

OVERSTRAND GARDENING CLUB

The Overstrand Gardening Club will hold its first meeting of 2013 on Tuesday, 5 February at 2pm in the Parish Hall, The Londs, Overstrand. The AGM will precede this month’s talk which will begin at 2:30pm. The speaker will be Barry Gayton talking on alpines.

The owners of Pensthorpe have been at the forefront of attempts in Annual subscriptions of £5 will be due. The normal charge for the recent years to develop meetings remains unchanged at £1 for members and £1.50 for nonmembers. Tickets for the winter lunch to be held at Northrepps Cotcaptive breeding projtage hotel on 26 February will also be on sale. Free refreshments will ects to protect species under threat. Mr in the west country to complement the small Spencer was an amusing and knowledgeable resident flock of cranes we have here in speaker and provided us with an absorbing Norfolk. The corncrake had disappeared from start to our 2013 programme. the English countryside by the beginning of Our next meeting is on Thursday 14 February this century but a release programme on the in the Community Hall in Cromer at 7.30 pm. East Runton Funday Supports Five Local Good Causes A presentation evening was held last month at The White Horse in East Runton to distribute the proceeds from a fun day which was held in the village last August bank holiday weekend.

The amazing figure of £1,664.99 had been raised and was donated to five very worthy causes: • East Anglian Air Ambulance received £400 • Cromer RNLI received £250 • East Runton playing field (where the event was held) received £250 • Runton Parish Council received £500 for new village play equipment • and Friends of East Runton received £264.99 towards the cost of purchasing a cabinet to house a defibrillator in the village.

The event was well attended and warm applause was given to the Funday Committee for their hard work in putting on the event. Sadly the committee has now disbanded and the prospect of another Funday

is not likely for the immediate future. As is often the case in such things a shortage of volunteers, a mass of paperwork and red tape and inclement weather conspired against the hardy band. They had however enjoyed their year organising the event and were pleased to have been able to support five local good causes from their efforts. On a lighter note, the donation towards the defibrillator cabinet allowed Friends of East Runton to go ahead and purchase it as another very generous donation of £600 has been received from a village resident who, when they heard about the appeal in the Parish newsletter, insisted on donating the balance immediately!!

Cromer WI

We started our meeting with a talk by Mr. John Needham on “A History of British Medals”. He gave us a detailed, knowledgeable and entertaining talk with stories, medals, photographs and helmets from many different wars. He had a collection of memorabilia from the war at Waterloo up to the present day. One of his items was a miniature medal dedicated to a Charles Bering who it seemed once lived in Cromer Hall. He also had a large medal which was presented to all widows of the First World War plus a tin of chocolate that was presented to soldiers by Queen Victoria (needless to say it was empty). The talk all too soon came to an end and we got on with the rest of the meeting. Various outings were discussed and some plans were made. We ended the meeting by singing Happy Birthday to members who had birthdays in January and a special bouquet was presented to Madge Parsons on her 90th birthday. Madge has been a member of Cromer WI for 74 of its 75 years. New members are always welcome on the second Thursday of the month at 2.30pm in the Community Hall in Garden Street. Family Affair Going Strong

Bond Street Antiques (Est. 1970) has a long and varied history. It was purchased by Mike and Josephine Jones in 1973 who turned it into a jewellers shop. However they can trace their business history back to 1820 after the business purchased Briggs Jewellers (Est 1820) in 1985 for a freehold investment when it was joined into Bond Street Antiques. Five years ago they sold Briggs Jewellers to concentrate & uptrade into our original Bond Street Antiques (Inc JJ Briggs est. 1820). Son Mark (now a partner) & grandson David now work in the family business, which now has a wealth of experience in all fields of jewellery. Mark is a F.G.A. and managed the Collingwood then W Hinds Jewellers group of shops, & David is well into computers and art. They have a gem test centre and do valuations for insurance and probate. "We are members of a national association of goldsmiths, Guild of Master Craftsmen & Mark a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain," commented Mike. "And we always welcome customers into our showrooms during business hours, which are 9-5 Monday to Saturday." High quality items of course but that does not necessarily mean high price.

"Don't forget that we also like to buy good quality items as well," said Mike. "We are the exclusive agency for Eco Drive Citizen watches. There is an huge selection of engagement, wedding, eternity and dress rings - and signet rings cufflinks and pens for him and the latest in silver passion bead originals for her start from just £7.95." All in all something for every budget, with friendly, personal service.

Margo Martin’s Bequest to Cromer Junior Tennis

Margo Martin was a well-loved and respected member of Cromer Lawn Tennis Club. A tennis player of the old school, Margo was a stylish player in her younger days and when on top form, was capable of beating players many years her junior.

Many players, who have visited Cromer for its prestigious tournaments, remember Margo’s delicious raspberry cake and her sharp wit and sense of fun.

Over the last few years, Margo’s health began to fail, although she still loved an occasional nip of whiskey. Margo was fiercely independent and had looked after her beloved husband Robin until his death. Margo moved to Stalham where she lived until her death in October 2012, aged 87yrs.

Margo always cared greatly about the junior tennis players at the Cromer club and asked that any donations after her death go toward something that would help benefit the junior players at Cromer.

With the generosity of those who attended her funeral, the sum raised from donations will be

used to buy a silver plated cup that will be awarded annually to the winner of a club junior tournament to be held in April at the club on Norwich road. The cup, to be held at the club, will be engraved as The Margo Martin Junior Challenge Cup.

The winner each year will receive a fine wooden shield to be engraved with their name and returned for each annual tournament.

It is hoped that members of Margo’s family will be there to award the trophy in April. The date and details of the tournament will be announced shortly.

competition to design the club a new logo. Each school can submit two designs for consideration and the closing date for entry is the 25th March 2013.

A panel of selected judges will short-list their choices and the final choice will be selected in time for the new grass tennis season at the club. The winning designer or team of designers will be invited to the club for the official launch of the winning design and a presentation of a plague for the winning school.

The Cromer Ladies City League teams have begun their Monday evening practice nights at the club. The next practice night will be Monday 21st January starting at 7pm.

The first quiz night of the New Year is on the 25th January starting at 7.30pm in the clubhouse. The quiz costs £7 per person including food provided by the clubs catering team or £2 for the quiz only. Early arrival is advised as this is a popular event.
