Cromer Station Wins AwardAUTOMATIC DRIVING LESSONS
At a recent Awards Ceremony held by Greater Anglia Railways Cromer Station was named as the most improved station.
from
This was due to the hard work carried out by the Station Adopters John Dennis and Carole Blake keeping the station clean and tidy by emptying (full hour) bins, sweeping up rubbish and cleaning the windows in the shelter. Not any TAKE THE STRESS OUT OF DRIVING easy task sometimes. Stan Foxall from Cromer in Bloom tends the planters NO on the platform. Earlier this year three more planters from Norwich station CLUTCH, NO GEARS, NO WORRIES were added to help make the station more attractive for locals and well as visitors. There are more improvements in planned Text or call Warren on for next year. As well as the Certificate, a Garden Voucher for £25 was received. This 07860 7666Homebase 05 has been used for bulbs and Spring bedding in the new planters. Cromer kindly donated the huge amount of compost needed to fill these planters together with Canary Palms for a real seaside look. Cromer Station is certainly looking much better these days! Cromer and Sheringham Probus Club
There was an excellent turnout for the meeting on 5 November at the Links Hotel in West Runton. 31 members, one guest and two speakers enjoyed a splendid lunch, conviviality and an interesting and entertaining talk on the subject of The Mardler.
The Mardler is a talking newspaper for the visually-impaired, servicing North Norfolk and Broadland, based mainly on content from the North Norfolk News. Jack Chapman and Jolyon Booth have been involved in the production for many years and were able to tell us first-hand about the establishment of the service and its development over the years. There were also a number of amusing anecdotes from Jack’s many visits to the listeners.
At the end of the talk and after some questions and answers, there was an impromptu statement of commendation from John Bolton-Maggs who has been a recipient of The Mardler for 20 years. He was unstinting in his praise for the work which Jack, Jolyon and the rest of the team perform. This was followed by a formal vote of thanks proposed by Nick Oliver.
Anyone who is interested in either receiving The Mardler or becoming a volunteer can contact them on 01603 279060.
As an additional event this month, some members enjoyed an excursion arranged by Kelling Probus Club to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. We are grateful to Ken Murray from the Kelling Club for organising the trip.
The December meeting will be our Christmas lunch, to which members may bring lady guests and other friends. This is proving particularly popular this year; 62 places had been booked b 10 November.
The club is open to gentlemen who are retired or nearly so. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please contact Dave Vickery on 01263 824306 for more information.

The Christmas holidays will get underway in traditional style at the Grove with an open-air Carol evening featuring one of the region’s top singing groups. The Cantamus Community Choir will be leading the singing on 23rd December at 6pm, fortified by the finest homemade mince pies and lashings of mulled wine. Proceedings will get underway with an opening prayer from the rector of St. Giles in Norwich – and former Cromer celebrity – Father Darren Thornton, and it is hoped that as many people as possible turn up to sing the Christmas festival in. The evening is free to attend and all donations on the night will go directly to the RNLI. Charlie Hodson, Executive Chef at the Grove, who is now a volunteer on RNLI Cromer’s team is keen to support Cromer’s local charities. He said, “This is another example of how The Grove can support our local community”. He added, “This is the first of several exciting events planned for 2014, which will benefit RNLI Cromer as well as other charities”.

St. Peter`s Parish Church in Sheringham are hosting Sheringham’s fourth Charity Christmas Tree Festival which will take place from Thursday 12 December to Wednesday 17 December.
The festival is a major event for Sheringham and provides a spectacular spiritual platform for charities to raise funds by attracting donations from visitors. Last year over £6,000 was raised by the 41 charities that took part. This year again, 40 local and national charities will be represented. Each charity will decorate its tree in an imaginative way that will uniquely portray the charities aims. There will also be a prayer tree where visitors will be able to write a prayer and display it on the tree.
The stunning displays will be supported by a background of seasonal music and entertainment by local groups. There will also be a variety of stalls where last minute Christmas gifts can be bought! Light refreshments will be available throughout the festival.
The festival will be open Weekdays from 10.30am to 5.30pm, Saturday from 10am to 7pm and Sunday from 2pm to 6pm. Admission to the festival is free and a warm welcome awaits.
So come along, support your favourite charity, and share in the love of the Holy Child, Jesus Christ in this special community event.

CROMER CHRISTMAS SHOW IT'S A CHRISTMAS CRACKER OF A SHOW
the Cromer Christmas Show at the Pavilion theatre, Cromer Pier is the best way to start the Yule tide Holidays packed full of comedy, music, song and dance all wrapped up with that extra Christmas sparkle it will bring a smile to your face and set your feet tapping.
Appearing with Olly is Eddie Bushel, the Cromer based singer who has gained a considerable following with his performances in clubs and entertainment venues across the County. Joining them for the first time in Cromer are Martyn James and Jane Watkins.
Starring Norfolk’s own Olly Day a very funny and talented performer and firmly established as one of East Anglia’s finest ‘all round entertainers’.
This is Olly’s fifth year performing at the end of the pier in the famous Cromer Christmas Show and he has been busy finding lots of new gags and helping to write the sketches. Olly is delighted to be back saying “It’s my home from home, I love coming to Cromer and appearing at the Pavilion Theatre”
Comedian and Illusionist Martyn James has been performing for some twenty-five years working both in the UK and overseas. A member of the Magic Circle Martyn’s award winning magic and illusions have won him much praise with audiences. Singer Jane Watkins has been working at holiday centres and in pantomime. She has just returned from a tour of Holland and Belgium performing as Dusty Springfield, and Cilla Black in the ‘British Pop Invasion’ show.
Of course no variety show would be complete without its dancers and the Cromer Christmas Show is no exception. Hard working and very talented the dancers bring
that extra sparkle and glamour and energy to the stage.
The producers Openwide Coastal have once again created a show that will delight audiences of all ages. Devisor, Director and Choreographer Di Cooke is once again the visionary behind the show and along with Musical Director Nigel Hogg has created a show that will delight audiences of all ages. Campaign for Cromer Skate Park Forges Ahead
over the past few weeks, the campaign to build a skate park in Cromer has made several significant advances.
It has long been recognised that the town lacks a top class facility for its young people. The Cromer Skate Park Committee was formed in 2012 to address this issue. Until recently, the committee was led by Church Youth Leader Ed Land, under whose tireless and enthusiastic leadership great progress was made.
Recently, however, Ed left North Norfolk for Bristol, where he is to study to become a vicar. His passion for the project will be missed by many. Indeed, casual observers might be forgiven for thinking that his departure had coincided with progress on the campaign slowing down. However, nothing could be further from the truth. Much work has been taking place behind the scenes, and this is now beginning to bear fruit.
Since Ed’s departure, the campaign has acquired charitable status, thanks to the efforts of committee secretary Verity Pelton. This will allow the campaign to apply for grants for which it was previously ineligible. And, crucially, this change of status has enabled the committee to secure the lease for the proposed site of the skate park on the Meadow.
A number of local businesses have made sizeable donations. Most recently, the campaign received ÂŁ500 from Budgens supermarket. On 30 October, with five young committee members in attendance, Ruth de Neve and Jean Spruce of the Cromer Skate Park Committee received the cheque from Karl Hunt, General Operations Director for Budgens. On behalf of the committee, they expressed their thanks to Budgens for its support, and Budgens confirmed it will continue fundraising for the project.
While the support of local business is crucial, it has not been the only source of funds. Retired couple Mr and Mrs Gurney, both 79 years old and regular holidaymakers in the area, recently sent a cheque for ÂŁ250, saying ‘We are interested in helping the youth of the town as they will be the fund raisers of the future, and what is done by the older generation will encourage them to help others in their time.’
Mr and Mrs Gurney enclosed a photograph of themselves on the promenade. The location was significant, as they explained ‘This is the area where we met your young Cromer skateboarders earlier this year. It was their polite manners and their determination to get a skateboard park that moved us to help a little.’
The committee is hugely grateful to Mr and Mrs Gurney for their generosity, and would also like to thank those ‘young Cromer skateboarders’, whoever they might be. The campaign has raised about 20% of the
ÂŁ150,000 needed to fund building the park, so there is still much work to be done. However, the freedom to apply for larger grants afforded by the acquisition of charity status presents an opportunity for the campaign to reach its goal very much sooner than might once have been expected.
Costume Jewellery Bags & Purses Hats & Scarves Fashion Accessories Handmade Jewellery Gi s Costume Jewellery Repair Service
of the Wet Dog surf shop and a staunch supporter of the campaign, is undertaking a sponsored sky dive. And several further initiatives are already on the drawing board.
However, this all takes work, and the committee would positively welcome involvement from more members of the community. For those wanting to find out more about the initiative, Maverick, the chosen builders for the skate park, are being invited back to Cromer. They are to be asked to brief first students from Cromer Junior School and Cromer Academy, and subsequently parents and members of the wider community.
Mr & Mrs Gurney
Future fundraising initiatives are already being planned, including a charity spring ball, which has been pencilled in for March next year. Phil Weston, owner
Budgens

Northrepps ‘Poppyland’ Branch of the Royal British Legion and Northrepps Primary School
At this time of the year, we pause to remember all those who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars, right up to present day operational theatres, and on Monday 11 November 1s Branch members had the honour to join the Head Mistress, Staff and pupils at Northrepps Primary School, in the Act of Remembrance at 11am. We all braved the weather, and gathered outside in the school playground, together with our Standard Bearer Mr. Peter Keen, and Mr. Ted Briggs who played the Last Post and Reveille, and this was truly a very moving
experience. Afterwards, members of our Branch joined with pupils of Oak Class, to talk with them about their wartime experiences and for some, to tell the children what they had learned from their parents and grandVEHICLE DISMANTLERS & END OF LIFE parents. There was a great interest from the VEHICLE RECYCLING CENTRE children in our Branch Standard. This year, the Royal British Legion has developed a new trial Poppy Appeal Box for childrens' engagement in fundraising for the Poppy Appeal, and it is packed full with tattoos, rings, bracelets wristbands flexi rulers, bugs, all in vibrant colours, and Northrepps Primary School has taken part in this. Our Secretary had the privilege of taking this box into the School meeting with the Head For all your beading needs Mistress and the to the School Council as to the success. Help for Babies’ Development
What do babies get out of it? Other than sheer delight and excitement, the classes have been designed to help babies develop in the following areas: Language, Physical movement, Socialising and Emotions.
Lisa Stickells has just moved back to Norfolk from London and is launching Baby Sensory in this area (initially Cromer and North Walsham). "I have a 10 month old son (Stanley) who I took to Baby Sensory in Bromley from birth," commented Lisa. "He absolutely loved it (as did I).
Free Taster Sessions will take place at Cromer on Tuesday 10th December, 10-11am, Northrepps Village Hall, School Lane, NR27 0LB and North Walsham on Friday 6th December, 10-11am, The Atrium, Spenser Avenue, NR28 9HZ.
I completed my training last month and will be running free taster sessions in December and starting the first Baby Sensory programme in January 2014."

Southrepps Chorale is delighted that their next concert with Norfolk Brass will be in aid of the Cromer Bells Restoration Project.
Booking is essential as spaces are limited Ten week terms start in January at Northrepps on Tuesdays and The Atrium on Fridays.
To find out more contact Lisa on 01263 576507 or 07725 623758 or email northnorfolk@babysensory.co.uk or visit www.babysensory.com to find your nearest class and book.
The concert at Cromer Parish Church on Saturday 30 November at 7.30pm will see the Chorale, conducted by Musical Director Stephen Richards, accompanied by brass, guitar, percussion and their regular accompanist David Hillery, in music as diverse as ‘Hallelujah Chorus’, ‘Panis Angelicus’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. There will also be seasonal music and refreshments as we move into Advent and towards Christmas.
The Cromer Bells Project is to replace 140-year-old fittings around the six bells in the parish church, and to cast two additional bells, at a cost of £70,000.
Maureen Gardiner, bellringer and Steeple-Keeper for the town centre church, said “Being forced to raise £70,000 was a bit of a shock. We have had tremendous support but we are looking for new ways to raise the money and are really grateful to the Southrepps Chorale for giving the proceeds of this concert at the Parish Church to the Restoration Project.”
The community choir, Southrepps Chorale, is just two years old and continues to provide its members with a host of surprises emerging from rehearsals each Tuesday night. The excitement of learning to sing, and to sing with others, continues to delight all concerned. And of course they love to showcase their new-found skills to the wider community through performing.
Tickets, £7.50 (£2.50 under 16s) are on sale at Cromer’s Victorian Tearooms, KK Hardware, Merchants’ Place and Southrepps Post Office. Tickets will also be available on the door on the night, subject to availability.

Cromer’s New Years Day Fireworks Photography Competition set to return Cromer’s new Year’s Day Fireworks committee has announced the return of their annual photography competition to mark the 15th year of the annual display which began in 2000.
After the success of last year’s inaugural competition, which saw over 200 entries, it is hoped that everyone from children to artists and community groups to ambitious individuals will enter and get involved in this fabulous event.
The competition is open to children, adults, amateur and professionals alike, so come along to Cromer on New Years Day, bring your camera, photograph the event and get creative.
This year the competition will be split into two age groups – Adults and Juniors – and each group has a different brief. The Adult age group is open to photographers entering photos of ‘Cromer’s Fireworks 2014’ and the Junior age category is open to photographers entering photos of ‘Cromer on New Year’s Day 2014’. The winner of the Adult age category will have their image turned into the official poster for the 2015 New Years Day Firework event as well as use in other promotional material. Local electrical retailer Bennetts have also teamed up with the North Norfolk News to offer the winner the latest Toshiba tablet package worth £300.
In the Junior category there will be two different age groups – 11 years and under and 12-16 years. The winner of the 12-16 years category will win a Nexus tablet worth £180 and the winner of the 11 years and under category will receive a Scroll 4” tablet worth £55 all courtesy of Bennetts, Cromer.
Manger of Bennetts in Cromer, Simon Morton said “We are thrilled to once again have the opportunity to support such a spectacular local event as the New Year’s Day Firework display. We felt the prizes should reflect this so up for grabs, and chosen from our fantastic range of Tablets in store this Christmas, is the latest Toshiba Tablet currently retailing for £299 as the main prize. In addition we are offering a second tier prize in a Nexus tablet as well as a Scroll 4” tablet for the younger age category. In total a prize pool worth over £500 to encourage those ‘snappers’ to get snapping and produce some great local images!”
Chairman of the Fireworks committee Jim Bond said “the annual New Year's Day Fireworks have been capturing people's imagination for fourteen years, every year we see hundreds of fabulous photographs of the event in the press and online. We thought it would be great to expand the photography competition in its second year to inspire more people and to capture this fantastic event. We are looking for photographs that really capture the spirit of the event."
For further information and the competition rules please visit www.cromertown.org or email fireworks@cromertown.org.
The competition entry deadline is Wednesday 15 January 2014. Cromer’s New Year’s Day Fireworks will take place at 5pm off Cromer

Sheringham and District RAF Association
On Tuesday 18 October, members of the Sheringham and District Branch attended a buffet luncheon at Wolterton Hall. The luncheon was, as usual, enjoyed in the beautiful surroundings of the Hall with a splendid buffet and the opportunity for old friendships to be renewed and new ones made. Kenneth Macnish, the newly-elected Chairman of the Branch, welcomed those attending and thanked Lady Walpole for her hospitality. The Committee wishes to thank all those who helped in collecting during Wings Week and also the members of the public who contributed. This year a sum of £4,231.65 was collected to which was added a further £1,000 from Branch funds giving a total of £5,231.65. A programme of events for 2014 will shortly be published, we are hoping to have one event per month, taking place regularly on the third Thursday of the month wherever possible. The Association welcomes new members, membership is open to all serving and former members of the RAF, and if you have never served in the RAF but wish to offer your support, you are welcome to join as an Associate member, assist in fund-raising, or attend one of the many events. Please contact either Kenneth Macnish on 01263 519684 or our Secretary Christine Martin on 01263 734977.
Waitrose Support Matthew Project
Sharon Hulbert, Media & Fundraising Manager for the Matthew Project, said "We were absolutely delighted that Waitrose at North Walsham and their customers supported our charity during the month of September. The £360 donated will help fund our new "Outside The Wire" service, working with serving and ex-forces personnel with issues around substance misuse. This much needed service is provided by Matthew Project staff at The Junction in Cromer who themselves are ex-forces and understand the issues faced by this sector."
Each month Waitrose provides £1000 that is split between three causes and customers 'vote' for their preferred choice by placing a token in the box.

CROMER CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
Cromer Times 435 November 30th 2013

December is a very busy time for us at the Grove and we have lots of great events during the leadup to Christmas. The highlight is our Carol evening - with miced pies and lashings of mulled wine - under the stars around our Christmas tree on 23rd December at 6pm. We’re being joined by the Cantamus Community Choir from Thorpe Market and we hope it will be a fantastic evening for the whole town to get together as the festive season really gets underway. The Carol evening will be free entry, though we will be collecting for the RNLI to help them with the great work that they do in Cromer, Sheringham and around the country.
We still have just a few slots available for Christmas dinner parties too - although they are selling out extremely quickly – a couple of tables left for our sumptuous Christmas Day lunch, and of course we are open for dinner every night and the best Sunday lunch in Norfolk!
This is a great recipe that features on our Autumn menu here at the Grove, and is proving extremely popular. It blends a traditional French cooking technique with some superb local produce, including some
Icarus Hines’ Norfolk lamb with Dauphinoise potatoes, purple sprouting and beetroot
gorgous granola from Crush Foods and the best lamb from Icarus Hines; is really scrummy and perfect for this time of year.
Very best wishes from us all at The Grove.
Charlie
tHe LAMb Four French-trimmed three-bone racks of Norfolk lamb – any butcher will trim and clean the bones ready for the oven. For the lamb crust – 1 cup of hazlenut and chocolate Crush granola (made locally in Norfolk.) A handful of mint, handful of basil leaves, Norfolk rapeseed honey for a beautifully pure flavour - and helps the crust stay on the meat… Maldon Sea Salt, black pepper, cold pressed Crush rapeseed oil. ♦ Seal the lamb in a hot pan until all sides have a golden glaze. ♦ Leave to stand, baste the top fat with honey, and add herbs, granola and seasoning (blended or chopped very finely) to the honey glaze. ♦ Drizzle with a little cold pressed rapeseed oil and cook in a medium heat oven (gas mark 5) for between 20 and 30 minutes until pink. ♦ Cook the purple sprouting tips in seasoned boiling water for 45 minutes; drain and serve.
DAuPHinoiSe PotAtoeS 5 large potato lovers (Norfolk tatties) 500ml double cream
2 crushed garlic cloves 2 pinches nutmeg Maldon sea salt, black pepper
■ Pre-heat oven to gas mark three. Make sure your oven dish is evenly coated with butter. Peel five large potatoes – we get ours direct from the garden – thinly slice with a sharp knife or mandolin. ■ Mix up 500ml of double cream, a couple of pinches of nutmeg, a good amount of seasoning and two crushed garlic cloves. ■ Toss the potatoes in your cream mix, place everything into your gratin dish – layering the slices of potato – and bake for approximately an hour to 90 minutes, pressing down with a wooden spoon every 15 minutes. ■ The potatoes will come out lovely and golden brown; leave to stand for at least ten minutes. Simple garden beetroot jus. ■ Boil your beetroots for two to threee hours and, while hot, peel them – wear rubber gloves of course! Dice up with a shallot, a medium-sized red onion and a knob of unsalted butter. ■ Cook on a medium heat until soft, then add 50ml of red wine, a dash of white wine vinegar, Maldon sea salt and black pepper and 75ml of chicken stock. ■ Remove from the heat, puree with a stick blender until smooth, return to the heat for 10 minutes and finish with a pinch of caster sugar to give some sweet balance to the acidity.
Garden Friends, Frost & Winter Colour… There’s a definite chill in the air and winter is fast approaching.
Berries are abundant this year thanks to the favourable spring; however the leaves are late to fall this year and now is the time to tidy up the garden before the worst of the winter weather arrives. Be especially aware of hibernating toads, newts and hedgehogs, particularly the latter as numbers continue to decline in hedgehog populations. If you discover a hedgehog then you certainly are lucky for it to have chosen your garden to settle down in for the winter – rather there than beside a busy road!
While the word “hardy” is often thrown around in haste, frost can be particularly disastrous for tender plants – small, potted plants can be transferred to the greenhouse or conservatory but some larger plants such as tree ferns can be packed with straw and wrapped to protect the crown and fronds.
Gardens need never be dull this time of year. There’s plenty of colour to be found on trees such as Sorbus, Contoneaster, Viburnum and Holly. Why not bring the colour indoors with your own arrangements from the garden, or a Hyacinth vase?
With less planning, instant colour can be had from typical bedding plants such as Cyclamen and Winter Pansies. A wide variety of grasses can add texture and movement to your garden, particularly with winter dew and cobwebs dangling between them. A popular local Norfolk variety is Carex elata ‘Aurea Bowles’ Golden Sedge, discovered by botanist EA Bowles in East Anglia.

Cromer Academy Awards Evening
Cromer Academy celebrated another successful awards evening on Tuesday 12 November. Hundreds of parents and carers packed into the Sports Hall to watch their child receive an award from former Blue Peter presenter and Sky Sports news presenter Simon Thomas, who delivered an inspirational speech to our students.
Mr Carey hosted the evening with Jess Butcher performing a beautiful acoustic rendition of the song ‘Royals’. This was followed later in the evening by a reading of the poem ‘The Employee’ written and performed with great enthusiasm by Rowan Adams.
Jake Lomax and Beth Adams, Head Boy and Head Girl, presented Simon Thomas with a gift and at the end of the evening guests enjoyed drinks and a wonderful buffet supplied by the canteen staff.
It was a fantastic evening and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the successes of Cromer Academy.

RAF involved in Norfolk to Suffolk evacuation
On 5 and 6 November RAF Merlin and Puma helicopters evacuated over 120 civilians from a military area in Norfolk to RAF Honington in Suffolk. However as this was an exercise named ‘Agile Spear’ and the civilians were all air cadets and their volunteer staff, it was considered an exciting adventure by those who took part.
The RAF have hit the headlines over the last few years with details of how they have evacuated UK and foreign nationals from areas of strife and also taken part in mercy missions when natural disasters have threatened lives. This is part of their core aim ‘To be a Force for Good in the world’.
In order to practice and gain experience in this area this exercise was organised and the Norfolk and Suffolk Wing Air Training Corps were asked to be the civilian evacuees for the day.
One such cadet, Genny Keerie being fitted with a helmet for the Genevieve Keerie (13), flight by an RAF crew member a pupil at Reepham High School was flown on a Merlin Helicopter. It was her first ever flight and as she has been in the Air Training Corps for just six weeks was extremely enthusiastic about her experience. “I want to be a combat medic or nurse in the RAF and to see the actual helicopters used in medevac missions in use today was brilliant.”
Reepham High School, who gave permission for Genevieve to be part of the activity were also very much behind the participation. It is considered very much a career “work experience” opportunity and being able to be part of something as thrilling but also informative isn’t an opportunity to be missed.
Cadet Keerie is from Cromer Squadron Air Cadets but over the two days nearly all of the 29 Squadrons in Norfolk and Suffolk were able to be represented. All the staff and cadets from the Squadrons had to carry suitcases or backpacks to simulate a refugee situation. It was agreed by everyone that it was an incredible experience and a credit to the RAF crews that they coped without any issues and seemed to take the whole exercise in their stride.
A Fish & Chip lunch and raffle will be held on 6 December at 12.30pm at The Cottage, Louden Road, Cromer. All members of The Royal British Legion & Women’s Section are invited to attend. Cost per person will be approximately £4. Please book through either John Needham on 01263 510146 or Robin Lilley on 01263 510287. All raffle proceeds will go to the Service charity, ‘Outside the Wire’.

Cromer Times 435 November 30th 2013
Living as husband and wife Written by Margaret Smith – Solicitor with Hayes & Storr The recent unreported case of Swetenham –v- Walkley has considered the definitions of “as husband and wife” and “same household” in relation to financial claims against the estate of a deceased person by their cohabitant.
It also dealt with the question of whether it is the internal or external nature of the relationship that is more important. The background law to this is that, in order to bring a successful claim under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975, a claimant must show both that he/she and the deceased were living in the same household and that they were cohabiting ‘as husband and wife’.
The facts behind the case make interesting reading and the judge put great emphasis on the deceased’s eccentricity and obsessive behaviour; sadly, there is not space here to give full details! The parties had been together for over 30 years, were committed to each other and accepted externally to be partners. There were elements of the practicalities of their relationship that were unusual; however, they
appeared to the outside world to be ‘husband and wife’. This meant that they were held to have passed both the ‘internal’ and the ‘external’ tests.
The leading case on the subject has long been Re Watson where the judge emphasised the importance of the external appearance of the relationship and said that ‘one should not ignore the multifarious nature of the marital relationship;’ which, in this case, meant that it was not relevant that the couple had always slept in separate bedrooms and that they each owned a house.
In two other cases the internal nature of the relationship was emphasised. In Churchill –v- Roach the elements of permanence, mutual support as well as ‘a degree of voluntary restraint on personal freedom’ and ‘community of resources’ were stated. In Fitzpatrick –v- Sterling Housing ‘mutual interdependence, the sharing of lives and of caring and… support’ were given as important.
In Southern Housing –v- Nutting the judge required both the internal ‘mutual lifetime commitment’ and the external ‘that the relationship must be openly and unequivocally displayed to the world.’

“New facility will help pupils build valuable employment skills” - Norman Lamb
Earlier this month North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb opened a new work space at Sidestrand Hall School in North Norfolk. The new work space will replace an old hanger on the site, and will be used for teaching mechanics and buildings skills to Sidestrand Hall pupils as well as pupils from other local schools.
Commenting, Norman Lamb said “This new facility will help pupils build valuable employment skills. I have always been very impressed with the school, and am glad to see it going from strength to strength.”

Poppy Line Explores Running to Cromer
Earlier this month North Norfolk Railway managing director Hugh Harkett confirmed that the Poppy Line is exploring the possibilities of running to Cromer.
“We’ve been discussing it with franchise holder Greater Anglia (part of Abellio) and with the Department for Transport,” said Mr Harkett. “The plan is for a Sunday service in summer, with the NNR running five steam-hauled trains from Cromer to Holt, and Greater Anglia running from Cromer to Norwich. Trains would have to be ‘top and tailed’ with a steam locomotive at each end, as Cromer has no run-round facility.”
Only engines fitted with the mainline Train Protection & Warning System (TPWS) would be allowed to run to Cromer, and the railway will need three locos with this equipment.
The 1947-built George Stephenson, currently on the NNR, is already fitted with TPWS, and plans to fit two other recently restored engines are in hand. Trains will also have to include any other modifications that may be required by the Office of Rail Regulation.
“Greater Anglia is very supportive,” said Mr Harkett. “We are now waiting for comments on our proposals from the Department for Transport and the ORR.”

The children are back to school. Summer seems to be over so now is the time to rejuvenate your skin and reverse some of the sun damage
The light that treats all skin care needs. IPL and laser treatments at the Coltishall Cosmetic Clinic. We have a choice of 11 different laser and light devices.
Numerous treatments are available and these produce variable results but laser and light based treatments are the gold-standard treatment options. Recently, intense pulsed light devices have gained popularity.
New technology can now treat unsightly leg veins, facial redness, facial veins, acne and scarring, enlarged pores, sallow complexion, fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation. 75% of population between 35 and 65 have some kind of treatable pigment problem.
Unlike lasers, IPL devices produce a broadband light and effectively target a number of cosmetic concerns such as brown/ black pigmentation, red and blue vessels, enlarged pores and fine skin lines simultaneously. Patients see gradual but very noticeable improvements with complexion blending and brightening, achieving photo rejuvenation of the skin.
Intense Pulse Light ( IPL™) and our lasers use controlled flashes of light to resolve these imperfections with no downtime.
Facial redness and spider veins are a common cosmetic and medical complaint. These are particularly common in rosacea sufferers.
This year’s Must-Have Gift is blood
Call for people to come forward and give this year’s must-have gift NHS Blood and Transplant is calling for people to step forward and donate blood in the run up to Christmas so patients whose lives depend on blood transfusions get what they need over the festive period.
Derek Carr, Lead Donor Relations Manager for NHS Blood and Transplant said “People are probably busy getting ready for Christmas, but we’re asking them to find time to donate blood. Donating doesn’t cost a penny and saves lives, meaning many more children and adults can spend precious time with their families over Christmas. T O P P R I C E S

We have a number of anti-ageing treatments available today. These include anti-ageing supplements, vitamins, lotions, potions and hormones. What is striking is that none of these reverse skin ageing and prevent skin ageing to the extent that IPL does.
We now have the technology and considerable experience of using this technology effectively to repair the appearance of damaged skin, delay and help prevent signs of skin ageing and also possibly reduce the risk of skin cancers in the treated skin. It works very well on the face, neck, chest, arms and anywhere on the body.
Visit www.coltishallclinic.co.uk or phone us on 0800 0430737 to book an appointment.
“This is always an extremely challenging time of year for us as we need to make sure that hospitals are supplied with the blood they need to treat patients over the Christmas holidays. We need donors from all blood groups, but we especially need O Rh negative and B Rh negative to come forward. Whether you’re a regular blood, or have never donated before, you can make a real difference. So please make an appointment now or go along to an local session to save lives.”
if you’re 17 and over and in general good health, visit www.blood.co.uk or call 0300 123 23 23 to find a session in england or north Wales near you to go and give blood.

F1 Crayford and Abbs
Local Nissan dealership Crayford and Abbs recently came first out of 32 dealers to win a trip of a lifetime to Abu Dhabi. They were the only East Anglian dealer to attend the four day holiday with the MD and Directors of Nissan.
During the trip Kevin Abbs said he ‘was entertained by driving the sand dunes in Dubai, visiting and eating at the world's tallest building, Burj Dubai and playing golf at the Colin Montgomerie Championship course culminating in a two day pass in the Red Bull hospitality suite which included a presentation by Mark Webber prior to the Sunday’s final race’.
In total there were ten winners from Great Britain who each enjoyed business class flights and a luxury holiday of a life time.
Our photo shows Kevin Abbs Dealer Principal of Crayford and Abbs with James from the Red Bull racing team during a tour of the Red Bull Paddock station at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
