A Doodle by the Seaside

Covering Cromer, Mundesley, the Runtons and surrounding villages in association with the North Walsham Times and Sheringham Independent

If you were hardy enough to brave the strong northerly wind on Saturday, 5 September, and popped down to Cromer Pier then you would have been greeted by an unusual sight - a mass of colourful sticky notes, every colour of the rainbow, adorning the railings of the pier right along to the theatre end.

They were a record breaking attempt as part of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, which this year was, aptly, the Guinness World Records. The library service across North Norfolk, sponsored by FALCON (Facilitating Arts and Literature for Children of Norfolk) challenged children to create doodles using ordinary sticky notes and how they rose to this challenge.

A Doodle by the Seaside

Continued from front cover... It was the brainchild of Community Librarians, Alan Leventhall, Jacquie Salter and Maria Pavledis and FALCON Vice-Chair Adam Faulconbridge. Adam, a professional illustrator, visited all eight North Norfolk libraries to deliver children’s workshops on different drawing styles, from Manga to Comic Book. Adam said ‘The aim of the workshops was to help children discover their own artistic talent and also to encourage them to see their local libraries in different ways as they were asked “what makes your library extra special?”

The eight North Norfolk libraries all contributed doodles to the finished piece along with some doodles from Stibbard Children’s Centre. A massive loom band was also made at Sheringham Library.

The sticky notes were joined to create a garland of colourful bunting. As Ms Pavledis pointed out ‘We wanted to bring the children’s work, and each other, together at the one venue, uniting as one big community’. The garland decked the railings to make a wonderful decorative string. This was made all the more dramatic by the high winds, and waves crashing against the pier. The sound of several hundred little sticky notes flapping in the mild gale was quite spectacular.

Lots of people turned out, including local Councillors Hilary Cox and Tom Fitzpatrick, and lent a hand attaching the bunting as both they, and the doodles, got buffeted in the wind. Ms Salter said ‘I felt It made for a real sense of community spirit as many passers-by, holiday makers and locals stopped to take pictures and ask what the event was in aid of; bringing the libraries some much needed, positive, publicity. Many children along with their families have come, from as far away as Fakenham, just to see if they could spot their doodle.’

Ms Cox thanked everybody for their effort and thought it was ‘Marvellous to see just what a great contribution our libraries make to our local community.’ Alan Leventhall added ‘The libraries do a lot more beyond the four walls of the library than some people realise.’

Stars of the Cromer Pier show helped celebrate the achievement by appearing in dazzling full costume before their 4pm matinee performance. The garland, when all joined together, circled the main body of the pier and was to the best of the organisers’ knowledge, a local record for the longest ever doodle.

We would like to pass on our sincere thanks to all those who helped out on the day, during the workshops and over the course of the summer to help make our ‘record’ attempt. Although tired by the end of the afternoon, everybody who was on Cromer Pier on Saturday afternoon will remember the fun, of a creative day out.

More photos of the day can be found at www.norfolk.gov.uk/libraries or the official FALCON website www.falcon-norfolk.org.uk FALCON aims to provide opportunities for children and young people to engage with creativity in all its forms.

CROMER AND SHERINGHAM PROBUS CLUB

Moving house, for most people, is one of the most traumatic experiences in life - and that is just moving one's belongings. Moving the house itself is almost in the realm of fantasy, but as Cromer and Sheringham Probus Club heard at its September lunch meeting, it can and has been done.

We heard the extraordinary story of May Savidge, as told and illustrated by her niecein-law, Christine Adams. May owned and lived in part of a mediaeval house in Ware, Herts, when a decision was taken in the 1960s to demolish the house to make way for a roundabout. The redoubtable Miss Savidge would not let this piece of history be destroyed and after purchasing the rest of the house took the entire building apart. Every beam, floorboard and tile was carefully labelled and transported to Wells-next-the-Sea where she had bought a building plot, and for the next twenty-three years following her retirement, she struggled daily with very little help to rebuild her piece of English history.

During her life she had thrown nothing away and after her death the caravan in which she had lived in dreadful conditions whilst

rebuilding her house, was packed with a record of her life - every letter, card, invoice and shopping list carefully placed between the pages of the Radio Times on the appropriate day. Disused cereal boxes and washing-powder cartons had been used as filing systems.

In her will Miss Savidge left the house, not to the next generation, but to Christine Adams' children on condition that the re-building work and furnishing had to be completed first. We heard that this took a further eight exhausting years, is now complete, and Ware House, Wells is now run as a Bed and Breakfast. The full story has been published by Aurum Press and the contract for the film rights already signed.

Ian Urquart gave a vote of thanks to Christine Adams for an enthralling talk about an amazing, inspirational, stoical and perhaps eccentric Miss Savidge.

Our next lunch meeting at the Links Hotel, West Runton is on 6 October when the speaker will be David Balfour on 'Flying for Life', and an informal coffee meeting is planned for 10

Would You Like To Find Out More About The History Of Your House?

The Sidestrand Archive Group will be holding an exhibition at St Michael's Church, Sidestrand on Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 September from 11am till 5pm on both days. There will be a display on the history of several houses in the Sidestrand area and tips on how to research your own house history using locally available facilities.

We will use Ivy Farm (records date back to the 1300s) and the old Council houses in Sidestrand (much more recent additions to the village!) as exemplars. There will also be a new map showing the erosion of the coastline with local landmarks picked out and annotated, and artefacts from the 'Templewood Archive' (Sidestrand and Northrepps) displayed for the first time....so lots to peruse whilst enjoying the refreshments.

Please do come along and join in this event. Admission free!

November at The Hole-in-One, West Runton.

If you are retired or nearly retired and would like to meet a very friendly group of men for lunch and to hear our next speaker please contact our Lunch Secretary, Dave Vickery on 01263 824306 or visit our website,

THE CROMER TIMES

WHEN RESPONDING TO OUR ADVERTISERS!

Your Vote Matters –

Residents reminded to complete Household Enquiry Form

North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) is reminding its residents to ensure they have completed the recently issued Household Enquiry Form.

Forms have been sent to all residents in north Norfolk, asking them to check whether the information that appears on the electoral register for those living at their address is correct as part of NNDC’s annual household enquiry canvass.

The aim of the form is to ensure that the electoral register is up to date and to identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so. Reminders are now being issued to those who have yet to respond.

With the Police and Crime Commissioner election taking place across the country in May 2016, this is an opportunity for residents to make sure that when the election takes place they will easily be able to take part.

Sheila Oxtoby, Electoral Registration Officer at North Norfolk District Council said “Although we’ve received a fantastic response from our residents with over 70% of households responding to the Household Enquiry Forms so far, there are still residents who have yet to do so. Changes can be made online at www.registerbyinternet.com/north-norfolk or confirm details are correct by Freephone to 0800 197 9871. You can even now confirm details via text message. Full details on how to do this can be found on the front of your form.”

Every household must provide the information requested on their Household Enquiry Form, even if the property is empty, is a second home, is a business premises, or is a property where no one is entitled to be registered. Failure to respond will result in further reminders being sent and potentially a personal visit to the property being carried out. Residents are encouraged to respond as soon as possible.

Residents seeking further information or guidance are encouraged to visit www.northnorfolk.org/register to view frequently asked questions about the annual canvass and Household Enquiry Forms.

Older People’s Day 2015

We are supporting the up and coming Older People’s Day, as we do every year, with a special event. This year we hope to make it an extra special event as a tribute to our former Befriending Manager, Elva Gledhill, who very sadly and suddenly, passed away in July and who always befriended and helped anyone regardless of age.

HANDYMAN Clint Brown Property Services

There will be plenty to enjoy with an exercise programme and Tai-Chi and we have live music on the day and always encourage people to get up and have a dance. There will also be hand massage and art workshops. Refreshments are provided including tea, cake and sandwiches; with fun being the operative word.

No Job too big or too small Bathrooms - Kitchens Fencing - Carpentry Electrics - Plumbing Tiling - Decorating Patios - Jet Washing All aspects of Home Improvement

Everyone here at Age Concern North Norfolk loves to celebrate age and see it only as a number.

Daytime 07736 516644 Evening 01263 649430

It will be held at Sheringham Community Centre on 1 October between 1pm and 3.30pm. Local people are invited to come along to this FREE event where they can learn more about local services and social clubs. Those groups and organisations attending are Fit Together, Ben’s Workforce, North Norfolk Community Transport, The British Heart Foundation, the local Library and Police services and the Older People’s Forum. There will be information stands and talks from associations such as the Community Services on safeguarding issues, Dementia Friends on becoming a dementia friendly community and Be Ready for It Palliative Care Academy as well as from our own services including our Befriending Scheme (which is supported by the National Lottery) and our Day Centre. Our computer support group will also be on hand to offer advice about getting online and staying safe.

We would love to see you there on the day to help promote our aim of proving age is just a number and that Norfolk leads the way in uniting different generations. On the day, North Norfolk Stories will be on hand to a record stories from people who have memories of growing up, or working in the area, as part of their oral exhibition beginning in the New Year and we will also have our own Intergenerational Group, run in conjunction with the pupils of Gresham’s School in Holt, attending For on the day.

FELBRIGG HALL AT HARVEST

Every year the Hall is spectacularly decorated with the fruits and flowers which have been grown in the gardens to represent harvest. Even for regular visitors it is an event not to be missed. Of course the display depends on the bounty of the harvest but it usually draws gasps of surprise from the visitors. This year the harvest display will take place between the 3rd and 7th October. Anyone with a love of the wonders of nature should visit particularly if you have never seen the display before so please note these dates in your diary. Cromer Times 478 September 19th 2015

Cromer Academy staff praised Cromer Academy staff praised at awards event Staff from a Cromer school were praised at a county-wide awards ceremony last month. Teachers and staff from Inspiration Trust schools across Norfolk and Suffolk came together to share ideas and celebrate colleagues and two staff from Cromer Academy were presented with awards recognising their contribution to school life, in front of around 800 staff from the Trust's 11 schools. Penny Gee and Michelle Gibson received awards recognising their contribution to life at the school, presented by principal Dr Geoff Baker and Trust Chairman Sir Theodore Agnew. The event heard about Cromer Academy’s impressive GCSE results, with 62% of students receiving five or more GCSEs at A*-C, including English and Maths. Their achievements matched the school’s record results, and marked Cromer out as one of the few north Norfolk schools to improve its results.

Staff at the event also heard from Sir Theodore of his passion for education, particularly for helping those from disadvantaged backgrounds to succeed. Chief executive Dame Rachel de Souza gave an overview of the last 12 months, and also set out the Trust's plans for the next three years. The day rounded off with a chance for staff to meet and swap ideas with colleagues from schools across the Trust, both in subject and year group meetings. Dame Rachel said "We had a fantastic day and it has been tremendous to recognise the great work that goes on all through the Trust, as well as welcome some new colleagues. Since joining the Trust, Cromer Academy has continued to improve, and we are delighted to be investing to improve the school site so that it better reflects the excellent work of the staff, students, and parents.”

NORTH NORFOLK JAZZ

The Norfolk Jazz Quartet played the first of four dates at The Goat Inn, Skeyton, on 16 August and will be playing again on Sundays 20 September, 18 October and 15 November from 1.30p.m. The event was well received with more than 150 people turning up to listen to the band play swinging jazz standards and music from the Great American Song Book.

The dates were arranged as the result of the popular Norfolk Dixieland Jazz Band events on the first Sunday of every month. The management decided to pursue the jazz theme but wanted to provide something different. The quartet’s dates are in addition to those of the Dixieland band and, if they continue to be successful, will carry on into the New Year. If the music of composers such as Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, George and Ira Gershwin and Antonio Carlos Jobim (to name a few) appeals to you then make sure that you check-out the Norfolk Jazz Quartet at The Goat. Tim Densham (clarinet and saxophones), Peter Gregory (guitar), Liz Underdown

Aldborough

Calthorpe. Aldborough has already seen the closure of a butcher’s shop in recent years and one of its two pubs last year. It still has a Post Office and a popular doctor’s surgery as well as a successful school.

A north norfolk Postmaster has come to the rescue of a village about to be left without a shop.

The village of Aldborough has a population of more than 600 people, many of them elderly, who are unable to reach other shops and services because they have no car. The shop also serves many surrounding villages including Thurgarton, Hanworth and

But the Spar shop in Aldborough is closing on 26 September this year leaving the village, designated a service village in North Norfolk District Council’s structure plan, without a shop.

Peter Davison and daughter-in-law Margaret Adams are getting ready to welcome new customers to the Post Office in Aldborough

Peter Davison, 66, with the help of his daughter-in-law Margaret Adams, 42, is stepping into the breach by making interim alterations to the Post Office to offer a basic service from 29 September. He said ‘I would hate to see the village without a shop. There are many residents that depend upon it for their basic needs. I was looking forward to retiring but I do feel that something should be done.

‘I will start off providing simple needs such as bread, milk, eggs, tea, coffee and newspapers. We will not be a Tesco. I hope we can source much of our food locally, so we will be a local

£

shop in every sense of the word. I will be talking to some local farmers to see whether we can take their meat, local bakers and other food suppliers,’ he said.

‘We will also try and keep convenient hours – from 8.30am to 6pm.’

Mr Davison’s family have lived and traded in the village for the last 100 years. His grandfather was a cobbler and bootmaker in 1914 and the family has had the Post Office for 53 years. Peter Davison has been postmaster since 1994 and he is now assisted by his daughter-in-law, Margaret. Other members of his family and grandchildren live in the village and attend Aldborough school.

Over the summer Mr Allain has re-worked and re-orchestrated this piece especially for this north Norfolk performance. The choir will be joined by a line-up of fine soloists including soprano Rosamund Walton, mezzo soprano Evie Anderson and tenor Oliver White.

Shaker Loops which will brilliantly demonstrate the active part which LMP play in contemporary music.

This concert presents a wonderful opportunity to showcase the work of a local composer and gives the choir another opportunity to sing with a leading orchestra. Don’t miss it! Box Office 01263 822347 Email boxoffice@sheringhamlittletheatre.com Full details www.sheringhamandcromerchoral.co.uk

This concert is being presented as part of the 2015 Orchestras Live North Norfolk concert series, featuring world class chamber orchestras performing at rural venues in the district, and is supported by North Norfolk District Council, Orchestras Live and Arts Council England in partnership with local promoters.

Henry Little, Chief Executive of Orchestras Live, said “We are delighted that our sixth annual concert series in partnership with North Norfolk District Council will include a new version of Vespers by Richard Allain. Orchestras Live is committed to producing adventurous programmes that bring new and contemporary music alongside orchestral classics for audiences to hear and enjoy. We are especially pleased that pieces by two Norfolk-based composers, Jane Wells and Richard Allain, have been featured in this year’s concert series.”

The concert will include two pieces by Ralph Vaughan Williams: Benedicite and Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis and John Adam’s Cromer Times 478 September 19th 2015

Wanderlust at the Cley Marshes Armed each with a dictaphone and a pair of wellington boots, three women began a search to satisfy their lust for adventure. Hunting in forgotten parts of Norfolk they made it their mission to bring back the most exciting tales. Wanderlust brings together a touching assortment of remarkable stories collected from people all over the county. A lady with twinkling eyes tells of her heroic journey of survival, an adventurer is lost on Ben Nevis battling against the snow and a man in a wicker chair remembers his dancing days with fondness.

Norfolk Wildlife Trust in conjunction with The Gramophones Theatre Company bring you a national tour of Wanderlust. Three women search Norfolk for local stories of adventure.

Hidden in the deepest, darkest depths of rural England, in the dusty corners of libraries are people with a burning secret. A story to tell... if only someone would ask...

Wanderlust weaves stories together using humour, verbatim and beautiful live music to take the audience on an uplifting journey. This theatre will take place in the new Simon Aspinall Wildlife Education

Centre, NWT Cley Marshes Visitor Centre at 7.30pm on Thursday 8 October 2015. Tickets are £12 Booking is essential as places are limited: call 01263 740008. Enjoy a pre-theatre supper with stunning views across the marsh. Call for bookings and menu. A bar will be available from 6pm. We hope you will tell your members about this uplifting and humorous theatre and we look forward to seeing you there!

Excel2000 Course for Carers in North Norfolk

‘Care in the Community’ - there are still many gaps - those discharged from hospital and not able to care for themselves, or simply being isolated, lonely and lethargic, being reliant on family, neighbours and friends to provide their daily needs, have someone to talk to. Where does the carer receive training and support? There is a need to encourage safe physical activity, mobility and motivation, thereby improving quality of life for the carer and person being cared for.

The good news is that, following the two successful carers’ courses in North Norfolk, a third training course for carers is starting on 25 September at Kelling Hospital which is free tosuccessful applicants thanks to being sponsored by the pro-active Kelling Hospital Appeal Trust, which understands the need for improving ‘Care in the Community’. This will relieve bed-blocking whilst showing the carer how to improve lifestyle for themselves and the person for whom they are caring. The course is being tutored by the Charity Excel 2000 (Reg Charity No 1038307).

The training will consist of 10 morning sessions and includes specialist speakers from statutory and third sector agencies and the President of the Charity, Bob Laventure, well known internationally for helping people to offset inactivity whilst encouraging a more active and enjoyable lifestyle. This programme is necessary at this austere time with so many cutbacks with the needs of carers being even greater than before whilst supporting local communities. Make the most of this opportunity!

Enquiries to Excel2000: mail@excel2000.plus.com or phone: 01263 826803 and leave a message for Christine McEvoy or Penny Bevan Jones and someone will return your call.

‘LIGHTS UP’

of events’ he said. ‘And we decided we wanted to give the Christmas Lights a wave of the magic wand and do something even more spectacular with them this year. At the big switching on ceremony we’re going to blow minds but hopefully not bulbs,’ he added with his trademark grin. ‘And this evening is going to raise the funds to do it!’

A locally star studded Variety Show extravaganza is coming to the Sheringham Little Theatre for just one night only - and it is literally going to LIGHT UP the town.

Paul called in old friends Rodger Smee, Simon Floyd and the community of Sheringham to help. Greg Powles from North Norfolk Radio will be compering the night. Music, Comedy, Magic, Song, Dance and surprise guests will make this a night to remember. ‘The people of the town have been so incredibly generous with their time and their talent that we will probably make this an annual event!’ he beamed.

It’s all down to one man’s vision.

That man - Paul Starling - is like a big kid in a toy shop. Actually that’s his day job! But today he is like The Simon Cowell and Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber of Sheringham all rolled into one. ‘Sheringham lights up the town throughout the year with it’s fantastic series

There will also be an auction at the Lobster Pub on 2.30 the 11th October with fantastic pledges to help the cause. Gavel down…Lights Up!

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection

We have more good news to report this time as Benji, the golden oldie mentioned last time, has now been reserved and will be in his new home by the time you read this. The tabby boy kitten featured in the photograph with the last article has also found a new home, which has left Fairy, the dear little black girl waiting for someone to offer her a home too.

Cats and kittens come into care for lots of reasons. Recently several have arrived because their owners are moving and are not allowed pets in their new home. It is not only distressing for cats but also for the people concerned. We also find it particularly sad when owners have to re-home their cats because they can no longer look after them. One such cat is Mange Tout, a lovely ginger boy who has always been an ‘indoor’ cat and, consequently, was rather overweight on arrival (over 8 kg). When any animal is overweight to this extent, it is important to lose the weight gradually to avoid damage to other organs. Although still not down to

his ideal weight, he has made remarkable progress since arriving and we believe Mange Tout would now benefit from finding a new home, initially as an indoor cat. He may always be happier without access to the outside world but, living in a house rather than a cat pen, would certainly give him more opportunity for exercise, which would help him reach his ideal weight. He will need, however, to continue having small portions of his special food, all carefully weighed, until this happens. Mange Tout has lost between 1 and 2 kg since he joined us, which is a remarkable achievement, bearing in mind he is confined

It is useful in many conditions including: • Degenerative conditions like Osteoarthritis • Following surgery or accident • Post injury such as strains, sprains or ligament problems • Spinal or back problems • Hip Dysplasia or Elbow Dysplasia • Some neurological conditions

Hydrotherapy can offer excellent non-weight bearing exercise for animals that may not be able to exercise as well as normal due to injuries or surgery, as well as provide mental stimulation to prevent boredom. For details of a brand new, local Hydrotherapy pool or to book a physio appointment please contact us at the surgery. We also take physio referrals from neighbouring Veterinary practices, call us for more details.

Patients can be referred for Physio appointments once the vet is satisfied with their diagnosis and treatment plan. Physio plans are then tailored to each individual case and may involve exercises at home with participation from the owners. Recovery times vary with each case; this will be discussed at the first 45 minute consultation. Appointments with Kathryn can be booked through our Sheringham or Cromer surgery; your pet must be under the care of a veterinary surgeon to be referred.

Ingworth residents latest to benefit from Big Society Fund award

Local children and their families are now enjoying a new play area in Ingworth after North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) awarded £7,500 from its Big Society Fund.

The grant of £7,500 towards a total project cost of £16,500 has enabled Ingworth Parish Council to buy a new swing and climbing tower.

NNDC’s Big Society Fund Panel recognised Ingworth Parish Council’s strong desire to improve the play facilities for the local community and in support of the work it had already undertaken to secure funding for the project, was happy to make an award. Ingworth Parish Council has also secured funding from Awards for All England.

By Adam J Faulconbridge BA Expires: 31/10/2015

Cabinet Member, Cllr. Sue Arnold, at a recent event to unveil the equipment, said “Ingworth Parish Council has demonstrated a strong will to support its local community so I am delighted that North Norfolk District Council’s Big Society Fund has been able to play a part in improving such an important facility.

“Play parks are a great place for local children to enjoy and a valuable community meeting point for parents and carers. I would like to particularly like to thank Ann Marie, Gill, other members of the Parish Council and all those involved in this project. Their hard work, commitment and dedication to improve play facilities are commended. I’m sure the new play equipment will be popular and well used.”

North Norfolk District Council set up the Big Society Fund in 2012 to help support, benefit and strengthen communities across North Norfolk. In the last three years, the Fund has awarded grants in excess of £1 million for over 120 community projects that are meeting local need and make a real difference to communities in North Norfolk.

eastlaw shortlisted for prestigious award

North Norfolk District Council’s (NNDC) award-winning legal team, eastlaw, has made it to the finals of the Law Society Excellence Awards 2015.

initiatives that challenge convention and create greater added value.

The concept of eastlaw was developed by NNDC’s legal team itself to deliver services both in-house and on behalf of external clients. Aiming to combine the best aspects of public sector practice with the efficiency and dynamism of the private sector, eastlaw has been particularly successful in acting as the legal arm of NNDC’s drive to bring empty homes back into use, in setting up the coastshare group to help charities and other not-for-profit organisations, and in generating income for the Council.

eastlaw’s innovative and agile approach has not

only secured its position as a value for money, specialist legal service which is efficient, effective and highly regarded, it has been recognised nationally with a number of prestigious awards. Cllr. Judy Oliver, North Norfolk District Council’s Cabinet Member for Legal Services, said “Being shortlisted for yet another award is a tremendous achievement. eastlaw's excellent service to the Council and to other public sector partners was recognised by three awards last year and being a finalist for this important award in 2015 is a much-deserved further recognition of eastlaw's vital contribution to NNDC's work. We wish them the best of luck for the finals”. The winners of the award will be announced on 22 October.

Dear Margaret,

On Sunday 30 August, my husband and I went for a walk and decided to go and have a look at the new skatepark on the meadow.

There were about 10 young boys on scooters and bikes having a very good time. We stood and watched them for a while, had a chat with them and they even offered my husband a try – he declined, we are both in our 70s.

They were all very friendly and polite and I would say a credit to today’s youth.

It is a shame it took so long to get this facility up and running. Cromer needs to do more for our youngsters. The only downside was the amount of rubbish around the site, even though there are litter bins nearby (all empty). Yours sincerely,

June & Alan

Turmoil

The sky is clouding over, The sun comes and goes, What will happen in the future, Nobody knows. People from different lands Are moving to our shores, And we, the British people, Have opened up our doors. I feel for the children, Bewildered and afraid, I saw them on TV, For them all I have prayed. I wish I could be with them To lend a helping hand, But without my metal frame, It's difficult to stand. If immigrants came to my door, I would give them a meal, I guess the world is in turmoil, It all seems quite unreal.

Road Closures in Cromer

Please be advised that over the next few weeks NCC Highways, BT, Anglian Water, National Grid Gas and others will be undertaking works in Cromer which necessitate traffic signals and the closure of some roads. Diversions will be in place as appropriate. The works have been coordinated to take place over as short a time scale as possible and where necessary will be followed by resurfacing of the roads. Cromer Town Council stress that whilst there may be some inconvenience, the end result will be the completion of the NCC works to the bus station, new footways, improved broadband, completion of other utility works and resurfaced roads. NCC Highways has advised that the Town Centre will be closed to HGVs and buses from 9.30am to 4pm approx. on 6th October whilst the Prince of Wales Road and Hamilton Road junction is resurfaced. Light vehicles will be able to drive through the town via New Street / High Street where the traffic flow will be temporarily

reversed. Full details of the road closures are on the CTC website News & Events page www.cromertown.org/press.htm

Promotion of Cromer

Cromer Town Council has recently purchased a gazebo to use at various events to promote Cromer and the surrounding area. Plans are underway to attend the EA Game and County Show, Royal Norfolk Show, Holkham County Fair, the Aylsham Show and others in 2016. Volunteers from the Town Council will attend the shows, man the stall and are happy to promote local organisations both verbally and with any promotional materials provided in return for an appropriate contribution towards the cost of the pitch fees. For further details or to express interest in this please contact the Town Clerk.

Cromer Christmas Events

Cromer Christmas Events Committee are looking for volunteers to show case their talents for face painting at their Christmas event on Saturday 5th December 2015. If you are interested please contact the Town Clerk. Entertainers are also needed to make appearances at the various venues throughout the day. If you can help, please get in touch. Bookings are now being taken for charity and trade stalls for Sat 05 Dec and are also being taken for the Christmas Tree and Nativity Festival which opens on Weds 02 Dec and runs until the Christmas Lights Event on Sat 05 Dec. This year, in addition to the trees and nativities, we are inviting people to sponsor Christmas wreaths which will be displayed on the ends of the pews in the centre aisle of the Church. If you would like to book a trade or charity stall, reserve a space for a Christmas tree or nativity scene or sponsor a wreath, please contact the Town Clerk.

Cromer War Memorial

The project to restore Cromer War Memorial includes the inscription of the names of those who gave their lives in service during WW2. Members of the public may sponsor the cutting of the names at the cost of £10 per letter. Individual letters or whole names may be sponsored. Please contact the Town Council office for further information. To date over £16,000 has been raised and grant funding applications have been submitted.
