Men encouraged to chat about mental health at new Cromer drop-in Men living with mental health issues are being invited to come along and chat at a new event held in North Norfolk.

The friendly, informal drop-in session held in Cromer on Monday 14 May is aimed at men who maybe looking for help in tackling anxiety, stress, depression or other mental health and emotional problems.

A chance to chat. Emilie Ruddick, Local Associate Co-ordinator from Wellbeing Norfolk & Waveney (right) will be among those available to talk about men’s mental health at the upcoming Cromer drop in on 14 May Photo: Wellbeing Norfolk and Waveney

It is also welcoming friends and families who would like guidance and support on how to deal with the challenges their friend/family member is facing and the impact on those around them. The event takes place at the Parish Hall, Cromer between 2pm and 6.30pm, where there will be a wide-range of stalls and entertainment and a Time to Talk Café where people can chat.

The event, timed to coincide with the start of National Mental Health Awareness Week is being run by Emilie Ruddick, Local Associate Co-ordinator from Wellbeing Norfolk & Waveney, who said “There have been events like this in Norwich, but we wanted to bring one to North Norfolk, so people here are aware of the support that is available locally. The aim is to make it informal, so people feel comfortable dropping in for a chat,” she added. Continued on page 4...

Continued from front cover... The event is specifically targeting men who are less likely than women to seek help for mental health problems. They are keen to show men that being strong doesn’t mean being silent and there is support in the community to help with a range of mental health issues. The event takes its inspiration from Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust’s Men’s Wellbeing Project which seeks to raise public awareness of men’s mental health and wellbeing but also to encourage men and boys to access support services.

Norfolk town parties for Ethiopia Aylsham Town Hall to host charity fundraiser for Hospice Ethiopia A Norfolk town is getting ready to party in aid of a charity in Ethiopia.

On Saturday 14 July Aylsham Town Hall will host an all-ticket party to raise much needed funds for Hospice Ethiopia. The event includes a buffet dinner, with many ingredients donated by local farmers and suppliers, as well as dancing to a live rock band and a classical musicale by the North Norfolk Ensemble. Sue Mumford, a specialist nurse at Priscilla Bacon Lodge, is chair of Hospice Ethiopia UK. Last year the Norfolk-based charity raised over £30,000 for Hospice Ethiopia, while the Norwich Diocese’s Lent Appeal raised over £40,000 to finance a new vehicle to help deliver aid in Addis Ababa. How did Norfolk become so involved in a charity based thousands of miles away?

“Originally it was about Priscilla Bacon Lodge sending out specialists to train Hospice Ethiopia’s staff in palliative care (care of the dying) says Sue. “It became clear that the charity desperately needed funding. It gets no money from the

Ethiopian government and grants from other charities were getting increasingly harder to source. Hospice Ethiopia is bringing hope to hundreds of desperate people. But even more important, is has become a centre of excellence in Ethiopia and trains hundreds of people to deliver care - so its work is reaching thousands. “It only needs about ÂŁ70,000 a year so survive – so every penny we can raise makes a real difference. But with more funds they can achieve more. For example, the vehicle funded by the Lent Appeal will allow Hospice Ethiopia to care for many more patients in their own homes.â€?

Events like the Aylsham Party are a vital part of Hospice Ethiopia UK’s fund raising. “It will be a super night, with a fabulous buffet meal, a bar, and lots of entertainment, including a great live band, the Gentleman Gits, who are sure to get everyone up on the dance floor, says Sue. “The fact that so many local people help us with donations of food and services is a huge bonus – it means we can keep ticket prices low,

attract lots of people and make as much money for Hospice Ethiopia as possible. Tickets for the Aylsham Party are £20, or £15 if bought before 1 June. For information contact Clare Glenn on 01263 734853, email info@hospiceethiopia.org.uk or visit www.hospiceethiopia.org.uk. Tickets available from Barnwells in Aylsham Market Square.

WHY CHOOSE SILVER SIL VER & WARD WARD SOLICIT ORS in 201 ? 201 ? SOLICITORS

www.cromergaragedoors.co.uk

“It’s a recurrent misconception that a larger firm is better. I am Clare Mayell and I own Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor. I appreciate that any time of the year can be a difficult difficult time for many people to resolve legal issues of worry and concern, for example, making a will or Lasting Power of Attorney. As I have worked for 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norfolk or Norwich and I provide 22 years of expertise and exceptional service. I pride myself in being one of the only solicitors who offers offers a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT APPOINTMENT,, so clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an informed decision. At a larger firm you just pay more. When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. I advise new clients to “shop around as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can offer offer the same expertise, if not better. I have and can act for clients across Norfolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs.

“I would say to any potential client with a legal issue or worry in 201 to come and meet me face to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain.

Home visits can be arranged or appointments outside of office hours including Saturdays. 01263 823465 or email clare@silverandward.co.uk

Northern Soul Night Raises Record Sum for Music School When DJs Trevor Half-Nelson and Hitman Hawkins formed Cromer Soul Club to launch a regular Northern Soul event in the town, they had no idea how popular their Keep the Faith dance night would become.

With the duo spinning a winning mix of Northern, Motown and Crossover soul, they have seen ever-increasing numbers of visitors to the vinyl 45s-only night. Perhaps the Club’s success

Following on from the success of the most recent national CoMA concert (Contemporary Music for All) at West Runton Church, in spite of the March snow drifts, Cantamus will be performing a new repertoire of music ‘From the Bavarian Highlands’ by Sir Edward Elgar, one of the greatest and best known English composers, and ‘Folk-Song Settings’ by Percy Grainger, an Australian composer who played a prominent role in the revival of interest in British folk music in the early years of the 20th century on Friday 25 May at Thorpe Market Church at 7pm and Saturday 26 May at 7pm at West Runton Church (conducted by Philip Adams, piano accompaniment by Michael Finnissy).

Percy Grainger’s folk song settings, mostly from Lincolnshire, are some of the most sensitive and beautiful ever written. Grainger collected with wax-cylinder recording equipment, and always credited the singers in published copies. The English Folk Song and Dance Society initially refused to house this material, and it was deposited in the Library of Congress in Washington USA. Fortunately, copies are now held by the British Library in London.

The folksong elements in Elgar’s 'From the Bavarian Highlands’ are made up, but no less enchanting. Later on Elgar’s celebration of England, although held to be somewhat jingoistic, is actually melancholic and equivocal. We must remember that Elgar’s genius was first recognised in Germany, perhaps in the Bavarian Highlands! Cantamus began as a community choir at St Margaret’s church in Thorpe Market, part of a strong musical tradition that has flourished in the church for a number of years. Under the Directorship of Philip Adams the choir has successfully been expanding its repertoire and scope. Those wishing to join the choir are welcome to get in touch. We rehearse on Thursday evenings 7.30 – 9.30pm. For further information please contact the Secretary 07944 731081 / 01263 833847

Applications now open for Holt Festival-Sir John Hurt Art Prize Leading north Norfolk festival also announces Open Studios scheme One of the east of England’s top art prizes, the Holt Festival-Sir John Hurt Art Prize, is now inviting entries for the 2018 exhibition.

The cash prize has been increased to £1,750 and the winning entry will also be exhibited at the prestigious Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts in Norwich.

Daffodil

I am a wind blown daffodil, but I’m not sad or glum, the weather has changed recently and out has come the sun. When springtime comes round again

I will have grown quite tall, Aubrieta is jealous because she is so small. The little flowers look up at me, I feel I am their Queen, I will not end up in a vase, but in the garden, seen. Diane Berthelot

The Sir John Hurt Art Prize is open to artists everywhere and in previous years there have been entries from all over the UK. All types of visual art are welcome.

The judges will select a shortlist of 25-30 which will be listed on the festival website and exhibited at the Auden Theatre, Holt between 21-29 July, with the winner announced at a private view on the evening of Sunday 22 July. The exhibition is part of the Holt Festival Art Trail that also takes in many other galleries and exhibition spaces around the town. Last year’s competition once again attracted an extremely high standard of entries with the winner coming from Norfolk artist Chloe Steele. Her pencil drawing, ‘Beginnings End’, was unanimously selected from over 250 entries and announced by Lady Anwen Hurt (see attached image). Festival organisers have also announced the first Holt Festival Open Studios, a great opportunity for artists within 15 miles of Holt to invite the public to their studios. It will run from 21-23 July between 10am & 5pm and a map detailing participating artists will be available to download from www.holtfestival.org . Open Studios are FREE to visit and offer people the chance to meet artists in their own studios to talk about their work and buy original artworks directly from their creators.

Holt Festival Fine Art Director James Glennie commented ‘The Holt Festival-Sir John Hurt Art Prize and Open Studios are great opportunities for both emerging and established artists. The Prize becomes better known each year with entries coming from further afield and the quality getting better each time, making the new team of distinguished judges job ever more difficult. There are so many talented artists in the area and we hope that the Open Studios will enable many of them to reach new audiences as well as giving the art loving public the opportunity to meet and learn about our local artists’. The closing date for both Prize entries and Open Studios applications is midnight Sunday 17 June.

Treatments to get you ready for summer cromerlaundryservices@gmail.com

Summer is round the corner and the sooner we start to prepare for it, the more time we have to show results. Here is a selection of our treatments that you can benefit from. Our therapists offer treatments that can be nice and relaxing experiences and do not cost a lot.

FACE - Why not book a diamond microdermabrasion and combine it with a gentle chemical peel and cool light for a glowing skin before your holiday? This will give you a well deserved ‘me time’, a bit of pampering and also benefit your skin health. If you wish to take the next step- a laser facial may just be the thing you need for skin toning and brightening. Further up the scale are our laser resurfacing treatments that do require a little recovery time in exchange for better, more visible results or to address specific skin concerns such as acne scars or lines and wrinkles. Of-course we are experts in natural looking injectable treatments and fillers carried out in a safe and comfortable manner. If it is a major change you are after- a wide range of cosmetic surgical treatments are also available.

VARICOSE AND THREAD VEINS - Changing options for the treatment of unwanted veins. Days of open surgery, prolonged bruising and painful recovery are long gone. Today non-invasive methods are replacing surgery at a very fast rate. So much so that NICE -The National Institute of Clinical Excellence has updated its guidelines on the treatment of varicose veins. It has recommended Endovenous laser treatment as the preferred option, foam injections second and surgery where the first two options are not suitable or declined. So come and see us to help you get rid of those unwanted veins anywhere on your face or body.

See website for further details

and rashes, pseudofolliculitis barbae (razor bumps) and even helped patients with polycystic ovaries. Thanks to our proven gold-standard lasers and extensive experience we are able to treat every skin type- from very fair to dark skin patients. FAT AND CELLuLITE REDuCTION - This is the perfect time to consider laser liposuction for reducing unwanted areas of fat and stubborn cellulite. The procedure is carried out purely under local anaesthesia on a walk-in, walk-out basis and most patients are recovered by 3-5 days. Medically supervised weight loss treatments and non-surgical body contouring are also available.

REDuCE ExCESSIVE uNDERARM SWEATING - Higher temperatures mean worsening of sweating issues for some of us. If you suffer from increased underarm sweating, worry about sweating through your clothes, work in close contact with others or in hot conditions or have to make public presentations then you may consider treatment. We offer injectable treatments and also revolutionary laser sweat reduction procedure to destroy sweat glands. Did you know we can remove unsightly moles and blemishes without the knife? We offer treatment options for a variety of conditions so check our website out for more information at www.coltishallclinic.co.uk or call 0800 0430737.

SAFE AND EFFECTIVE LASER HAIR REMOVAL AND TATTOO REMOVAL FOR ALL SKIN TyPES - Why it is a great idea to see us. When it comes to laser hair and tattoo removal it is the Wild West in this country. There is no shortage of new places opening up at every corner. We are seeing increasing number of patients who are either dissatisfied or have been harmed because of poorly trained and unregulated providers and cheap copycat or downright dangerous and unapproved machines. As we all know one size does not fit all. There is simply no machine, which is suitable for every person’s needs. With this in mind we have invested heavily in modern high-end medical machines that have undergone rigorous testing and evaluation. All our therapists also undergo rigorous initial and on going training in laser safety. We have helped thousands of patients remove unwanted hair, ingrowing hair

Overstrand Evening WI

In April Eddie Anderson gave an alternative talk to the one planned due to technical difficulties, but none the less, still retaining a strong local flavour.

We listened with interest as he spoke about ‘The Purification of the Mighty Mun’.

Introducing some of us, and updating others to the River Mun, giving us facts such as the Mun being the 2nd shortest of Norfolk's 9 little rivers, it flows over a purifying chalk bed, across 7 parishes until finally flowing into the sea at Mundesley. Using before and after slides, we were gently carried along on the tide of his evident enthusiasm.

The work of ridding the river of life limiting algae by digging out three `lakes` and planting them with 18,000 `plugs` of native water plants has greatly improved water quality so that it is now once again home to swans, grey wagtails, dragon and damsel flies as well as water voles.

The Sandringham trip is now fully booked with members and their friends. The ‘Women Walk the World’ walk is on 23 May at Erpingham necessitating an early start!

At the May meeting we will be voting on the Resolutions going forward to the Annual General Meeting of the WI, this year being held in Cardiff. Also at the May meeting we will be having an auction. Our meetings are on the third Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm in the Parish Hall, Overstrand. New members from the area always welcomed.

Have you received poor financial advice? Amanda Nudds, Solicitor, Hayes + Storr Many of us will have taken financial advice from banks and other financial institutions at some time, placing trust and reliance on the professional advice we receive. But what if the advice received was not in your best interest and the financial arrangements you have in place are not suitable for your needs? How do you know if your investments are suitable if the provider no longer offers advice? Have you paid another advising firm to put right mistakes? Have you received financial advice from some of the well-known high street banks such as HBOS, Natwest, HSBC, Barclays and Norwich & Peterborough in the past? Amongst others, these large corporations left many of their clients without advice after withdrawing from providing advice and have been fined/heavily criticised for the way their advisors have taken advantage of their customers. Staff under pressure to perform have been found to sell certain products to claim bonuses/commission or meet targets.

Anyone advising you in relation to financial products and services has a duty to act in your best interests and by failing to properly consider your individual circumstances and needs, they breach that duty resulting in you being entitled to pursue the institution for their negligence and recover compensation for any loss you suffer as a result.

What constitutes poor advice? Poor advice covers a wide range of issues including: • Receiving unsuitable advice resulting in you choosing arrangements not suitable for your needs • Risks not being properly explained to you (or in some cases, at all) • Deliberately withholding information which may influence your decision on a particular arrangement • Only providing you with a limited range of investments linked only to the institution you are seeking advice from • The ongoing service and costs incurred in relation to the advice you received

It may be that the products you were advised on were suitable but the institution no longer has an advisor or has failed to carry out its regular contractual review to ensure that these still meet your needs. When you think back to your appointments did your advisor properly consider your financial circumstances and what you wanted? Your advisor should take everything into account before recommending a solution suitable for your needs and thereafter should explain the risks and likely performance so that you can make an informed decision. In a recent case, clients had received financial advice which should have been regularly reviewed. It was not until six years later that

they discovered they were paying charges for a service they had never received.

What should I do if I suspect I’ve been misled? You could be entitled to a claim for compensation which would include recovering any fees you paid for receiving the negligent advice, any losses on performance of your chosen arrangement plus interest. These claims are time limited and therefore if you believe that you may have been mis-sold financial products and received poor advice you should contact us as soon as possible. We can complete an initial review of your current arrangement and advise you further.

This article aims to supply general information, but it is not intended to constitute advice. Every effort is made to ensure that the law referred to is correct at the date of publication and to avoid any statement which may mislead. However no duty of care is assumed to any person and no liability is accepted for any omission or inaccuracy. Always seek our specific advice.

If you would like further advice on this matter please contact Amanda on 01328 863231. If you require advice on any other legal matter call 01263 825959 or email law@hayes-storr.com.

Scouts St George’s Day Celebration Despite a rather worrying weather forecast of sunshine and thundery showers, it remained clear and sunny for the North East Norfolk District Scouts St George’s Day Celebration at Stalham on 22 April.

“We were able to celebrate with young people and their parents and grandparents, and Scout Leaders from across Norfolk attending, not just from the Broads area but from Norwich, north Norfolk and the west of the county” writes Lorraine Henriksen, District Secretary of North East Norfolk District Scout Council.

March to High School Playing Field

“We marched from Stalham Academy (Junior) School to Stalham High School’s playing field, and back again.

“During the parade to the High School, the formal salute was taken by North East Norfolk District Commissioner, Paul Henriksen, accompanied on the dais by Dr Duncan Edmonds, current Chairman of Stalham Town Council, Mrs Betty Jackson, North East Norfolk District Vice-President and also Councillor Richard Shepherd, Chairman of North Norfolk District Council and Councillor David Ward, Chairman of Broadland District Council.

“The welcome to the gathering at the High School was given by Dr Duncan Edmonds. An ex Scout himself, he donned the traditional Baden-Powell style felt Scout hat that was originally worn by most boy scout troops until the middle of the 1960s – known as a campaign or 'lemon squeezer' hat! “The greeting and Service was then taken forward by Rev Paul Cubitt, District Chaplain & Vicar of St Nicholas North Walsham with support and enthusiastic help from Reverend Richard Jackson from Stalham, using the theme of ‘water’ (particularly relevant to the host Group,1st Stalham Sea Scouts).

St George’s flag presented to West Runton Group

Several young people from Stalham Beavers, Cubs and Scouts participated by offering their reflections and prayers on how water is important in all of our lives.

“Also during the celebration, District Commissioner Paul Henriksen explained the importance of St George’s Day and in particular St George’s Day Awards which were being awarded to Leaders and adults within Scouting at Windsor Castle on St George’s Day”.

From the North East Norfolk District Marylyn Evans from Aylsham received the Silver Wolf - the unrestricted gift of the Chief Scout which is only awarded for service of a most exceptional nature and June Preston from Blakeney received the Bar to the Silver Acorn having worked for scouting for 45 years - the Bar to the Silver Acorn was awarded for similar distinguished service after being awarded the Silver Acorn Silver Acorn Awards seldom awarded for less than 20 years’ service, which was specially distinguished and appreciably better than outstanding, were presented to Andrew Fryer from North Walsham, Chris Nott from West Runton and Michael Cole, also from West Runton.

Mike Cole decided that he would prefer to attend the District event at Stalham with Stalham Brass Band under his home Group, West Runton, rather than the direction of Tim Thirst attending Windsor for his presentation, and District Commissioner Paul Henriksen was delighted to therefore be able to explain that his Group described Michael as “the glue which holds the Group together” - Michael was always dependable and can be relied upon to be present at all important Group events and activities, making sure that such events are arranged and organised to run effectively He is a very practical and helpful Leader who readily sees when something needs doing and will attend to such matters without prompting.

The Young People then participated in their Act of Commitment - a Stalham Beaver gave the Beaver Scout Thought and all of the Beavers joined in the

Cromer Times 541 May 12th 2018

renewal of the Beaver Promise by ADC Beavers. Alison Smith, a Stalham Cub, read the Cub Scout Law and all of the Cubs joined in the renewal of the Cub Scout Promise, led by ADC Cubs and Andy Harrison, a Stalham Scout, read the Scout Law and all Scouts Formal salute is taken (including ex Scouts and Leaders) joined in renewing the Scout Promise, led by DC Paul Henriksen.

During the singing of the hymn “Michael Row the Boat Ashore”, the collection from members of each Scout Group, together with contributions from the local dignitaries and VIP guests present, was brought forward.

1st Stalham Sea Scouts had nominated the Charity, #smileforharry to receive proceeds from the Celebration - Harry has a tumour in his spinal cord, which after two major operations and 12 months of chemotherapy, is still growing. As the chemotherapy hasn't worked all treatment has stopped. Harry needs life saving Proton Therapy Treatment abroad. His parents urgently need support in raising funds - the cost is going to be around £70,000 https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/protons-for-harry

While we sang the hymn “When the Saints go Marching in” the Colour party gathered and Groups collected their standards and flags and took up position for the National Anthem.

Following this the St George’s Flag, which had been brought to the gathering by last year’s recipients, 1st Blakeney & District Group, was presented by the District Commissioner to 1st West Runton Group who will retain the Flag during the year ahead. Music for the parade, during the celebration service and following the Service was provided by the Stalham Brass Band under the direction of Tim Thirst”.

Top quality billiards in North Norfolk

The Alby and District billiards and snooker league, has this season seen success in billiards at both county and national level.

In December, 17 year old Harley Dyson of Aylsham (left) won the Norfolk County handicap billiards championship (held at the Maltings club in Kings Lynn) defeating Kings Lynn's Steve Kirk in the final.

In April Harley was runner up in the English under 19s championship, losing a close fought final to Kings Lynn's Nathan Boughen. Harley is showing lots of promise for the future having only taken up playing Billiards less than a year ago.

Billiards Championship, making two 50 plus breaks in the final to defeat Norwich’s Allen Cheetham.

On a national Level David Nichols, from Erpingham, had a good run in the English Amateur Championship. David reached the semi-final David & Darren played in Darley Dale, Derbyshire, but lost the 4 hour match 662–1,120 to Middlesbrough's Darren Kell. David made breaks of 58, 68, 68 and 106. Darren had breaks of 56, 57, 64, 65, 70, 76, 77 and 163.

In February Ian Dennis (centre), from Overstrand, won the Norfolk County Grand Masters (over 40s)

Although David was below par in this match, only a few nights before he had made the highest ever break in the Alby leagues 86 year history with a magnificent 195 break in the very last game of the season.

Garden Centre Overstrand events line up Following the success of last years events, Garden Centre Overstrand has 5 markets planned this year and they are sure to be bigger and better than before.

These popular, family friendly events are in their third year running and Sam Lowe, General Manager at Garden Centre Overstrand, says ‘the success of these markets over the past 2 years has been absolutely amazing and we cannot wait to welcome you to the events we have planned for this year’. 3rd June – Summer Market 4th & 5th August – Food Festival Weekend 23rd September – Autumn Market 4th November – Christmas Market 2nd December – Christmas Market

CROMER FLOWER CLUB

At our April meeting we welcomed Pat Barton, who took us around the world while we sat in the school hall.

We set off for the Americas where she ingeniously used plenty of blue bottles (Pat insisted they had only held water and nothing stronger!) to support delphiniums to match the bottles, red spray roses, white heather and wonderful magnum chrysanthemums.

We then moved to Africa and in some interesting twig pots she arranged astrantia, protea and large anthuriums. It was a short hop (for us) to Australia to see some alliums, lovely pink carnations, lime green omithoalums and amazing balzar chrysanthemums. Off to Asia for a clever old glass lamp upside down in a tall glass vase, fatsia leaves, ivy and gorgeous mimosa from our President Olga’s garden, twisted bamboo completed the greenery. The flowers were memory lane roses, mauve with raspberry edges, white orchids, purple canna lilies and the whole finished with bright yellow sticks. Next we were back in the UK, not a continent, but very important we feel! This was a beautiful arrangement of apricot stocks, carnations, and attractive Wild Luke roses in dark pink.

Across the sea to Europe with cream lilies, gerberas in layers of conifers and purple leanthus finished with white chrysanthemums. Her top tip was to give your flowers plenty to drink. The vote of thanks was given by Jenny Larke. Our competition was Around the World and best in show as won by Jill Breeze with a sweet arrangement in a clog of red and yellow tulips complimented with skimmia and bay leaves. May 4th is National Flower Arrangement Day, so look out for flowers in odd places for you to enjoy. Advance notice, we are helping with the flowers at the Beeston Church Flower Festival on 1, 2 and 3 June - the title is By the Sea. It will be worth a visit. Our next meeting is at Cromer Primary School on 21 May at 7.20pm our guest is Moira Neville on Fleur de Temps.

Northrepps Village Open Gardens is back this year, bigger and better than ever, over the weekend of Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May, 10.30am to 4.30pm.

There will be in excess of ten gardens taking part, displaying results of the greenest of fingers, each with someModel Train at thing different to offer. Formal garNorthrepps Open Gardens dens, cottage gardens and rustic gardens – some large and some small, plus one garden boasts a fabulous working model railway which isn’t to be missed. No dogs permitted in the gardens.

There will be an Art Exhibition showing paintings and craft displays by some talented village artists. Also, refreshments, light lunches, afternoon teas, table top stalls and a tombola are just some of the many attractions available in Northrepps Village Hall, NR27 0LB, where there is ample free parking. Please come and support our village as all proceeds will go toward replacing the lead which was stolen from the church roof last year. St Mary the Virgin will be open to the public on both days.

Tickets are available at Village Hall – £5 adults, accompanied children free.

Are you an empty nester ready to embark upon a new career? We are currently recruiting the right individuals to join our growing team. The work is hard but very rewarding. Extensive training is provided and you will be mentored by dedicated managers. Our care workers enjoy competitive pay rates - £8.50ph week days and £9.00ph weekends. If you feel the time is right to give back to the community and support our most vulnerable then call us on 01263 512528 to arrange an interview.

Spring Bank Holiday at Thorpe Market Church - Visit our Churchyard The churchyard is looking beautiful after the dismal weather of recent months. Primroses, bluebells, violets of different hues and a sea of comfrey in the Hazel Grove. The resident bees are becoming active, the bug hotel is open for business and we shall soon be welcoming refugee hedgehogs.

Sunday 27 May will be a day of varied activities for all the family.

The churchyard is renowned in conservation circles for the great diversity of its plant life.

In February in excess of 1200 people visited the snowdrops and enjoyed cakes and hot drinks. Now the end of May is the time to see all the other wild flowers looking their best, including several species that are on the endangered list. The event will run from 11am until 4pm and there will be the usual array of homemade cakes. Entry is of course free. Norfolk Wildlife Trust will be on hand, with activities for all ages including: • Churchyard Bioblitz - How much can be identified? • Churchyard Wildlife Quiz Trail – Can it be found? • Bat making – Definitely NOT the cricketing variety • Time to browse the used book selection • Enjoy some live music on the organ
