WHY CHOOSE SILVER SIL VER & WARD WARD SOLICIT ORS in 201 ? 201 ? SOLICITORS

“It’s a recurrent misconception that a larger firm is better.

I am Clare Mayell and I own Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor. I appreciate that any time of the year can be a difficult difficult time for many people to resolve legal issues of worry and concern, for example, making a will or Lasting Power of Attorney. As I have worked for 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norfolk or Norwich and I provide 22 years of expertise and exceptional service. I pride myself in being one of the only solicitors who offers offers a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT APPOINTMENT,, so clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an informed decision. At a larger firm you just pay more. When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. I advise new clients to “shop around as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can offer offer the same expertise, if not better. I have and can act for clients across Norfolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs.

“I would say to any potential client with a legal issue or worry in 201 to come and meet me face to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain.

Home visits can be arranged or appointments outside of office hours including Saturdays. 01263 823465 or email clare@silverandward.co.uk

The Bank of Mum and Dad

Miranda Marshall, Director, Hayes + Storr

‘The Bank of Mum and Dad' is the 9th biggest mortgage lender in the country. It is estimated to have lent £6.5 billion in 2017.

Parents who help children to buy their first home should be aware of all sorts of repercussions.

An outright gift with no-strings is the easiest, but the question of how one is to be fair to all your children needs careful handling. Your Will may need altering.

Another option is a loan; but is it really to be repaid, and, if so, on what terms? Is interest to be charged? Any commercial mortgage company also lending will insist on having priority to your loan.

Another possibility is that the parents take a share in the home, even if they are not registered as legal owners. Their interest can be evidenced by a deed called a Declaration of Trust.

The recently toughened-up Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) is now an important consideration, as an extra 3% higher rate is charged additionally on a second home, or an interest in it. To limit SDLT a gift or loan is better than an equity share.

Many parents are concerned about their child’s marriage or relationship and that the money given might be lost in a messy divorce/break-up. Retaining a loan/share of equity could protect the funds given or lent. A 2017 report showed that the reason why 1 in 3 parents were unwilling to

provide support to married children was due to concerns about the children’s spouse.

This worry can be protected against by the recipient-child entering into a pre-nuptial or cohabitation agreement. Such lack of trust in a family is difficult to bring up in conversation, so it may be easier for the solicitor to raise the safeguard of a pre-nuptial agreement (or be blamed for doing so) to maintain a happy family. A pre-nup could perhaps be a prerequisite of the gift. If the child is already married a post-nuptial agreement (post-nup) can achieve the same result.

If the loan is never intended to be repaid, this route can be good asset protection, but bad tax-planning. The advantage of a gift is that it sets the ‘7-year clock’ running for Inheritance Tax (“IHT”). For Capital Gains Tax the child will get full main residence relief if they own the whole property, whether funded by a gift or a loan. If the parent holds a share of the house, they will have to pay full CGT on their share if they later sell or give it.

Helping a child buy their first home remains a useful way of passing on family wealth. A trust can work well. You might consider a revocable interest. Trusts are not just used for tax mitigation and are a useful asset protection tool also.

A loan can be written off in stages to use up annual IHT gifting allowances. This release should be done by a deed. The loan could be

repaid over the years in lieu of paying mortgage-interest. This is a good way to teach financial discipline; rather than the child being given too much too young.

The important thing is to talk it through with a solicitor, as your trusted advisor, so that you can establish your priorities and they can help you structure the arrangements in the best way to suit you and your family.

CROMER FLOWER CLUB

At our monthly meeting we were treated to some fabulous modern arrangements by Moira Neville, although she started with the ancient quote from Ecclesiates chapter 3 ‘A Time for Everything’.

Moira began with a ‘Time for Spring’ with pussy willow manipulated and cleverly fastened with cable ties (sprayed silver to become almost invisible). Cymbidium orchid sprays were then wired to the willow. This was a lovely table centrepiece.

Next was a ‘Time for Joy’ which was in a shallow bowl - Moira is a charity shop addict! Anastacia yellow chrysanthemums in an upright position with a phormium leaf knotted around a flower stem. The other greenery was paddy pride eunomius conifers and mahonia japonica. The whole display was finished with a yellow orchid laid flat and medelino sticks in a fan arrangement.

She then moved on to a ‘Time for War’, arranged in an oblong garden trough with contorted hazel and black bamboo uprights, seven green chrysanthemums and aspidistra leaves to

cover the mechanics.

This was followed by the more cheery a ‘Time to be Born’ made into a hand tie in blues and yellow. Lisianthus, clematis, plaited striped phormiums, aspidistra leaves again tied with cable ties. It was a boy.

Next it was a girl to be born represented by snake grass, bergina leaves, lovely soft pink lisianthus and bluey pink Anastasia chrysanthemums, complimented with a hosta leaf tied in thin gold ribbon.

Last, but most certainly not least was a ‘Time for Peace’, a stunning arrangement in a fabulous flat dish (charity shop!) with equisetum, white lisianthus and lilies, pine with the lime green new growth, Japanese meddlers, yew and aspidistra leaves.

The vote of thanks was given by Margaret Mitchell. Best in Show in our monthly competition ‘Spring Zing’ was Liz Crane with an elegant arrangement in lime green and orange, on an unusual wire stand.

Next month we welcome Emma Askew our florist from Mount Street, Cromer to talk and

MIXED TRACTION GALA

If you have been looking forward to this year's annual Diesel Gala you may have become aware that we have been a little slower than usual with updates on locomotive confirmations and attractions. There have been a number of difficulties regarding the availability of both visiting locomotives and our home fleet - the Class 03, 31 and 37 locomotives are still undergoing major overhauls. Therefore we have made the decision for this year to operate a Mixed Traction Gala to ensure we can still provide an interesting and varied event.

Adding further interest is Class 08 D3935. The inaugural journey on the Friday will be a special celebratory run, with a glass of Prosecco included for each lucky special ticket holder. Tickets for this exclusive service will be available from our online shop soon for a £5.00 supplement per person. New for this year we are throwing open the doors for guided tours around the Weybourne works. During the tour you will get a chance to see our machine shop, carriage and wagon department, the loco running shed and our ever growing boiler shop. Shed tours will be free entry for anyone with an event ticket and £5.00 for those without. We are offering a special ticket deal this year, 2 days for the price of one which will be on sale from our online shop soon.

MIXED TRACTION GALA 15th - 17th JUNE 2018 Run in conjunction with The Weybourne Traction Group. This years event combines heritage steam and diesel traction

Our special guest for this is Class 42 Warship D832 'Onslaught', courtesy of the Bury Hydraulic Group. In addition, our friends at Direct Rail Services have very kindly agreed to provide a locomotive (identity not yet known) and long-term visitor Class 20 20227 newly named 'Sherlock Holmes' will be the third diesel loco. Supporting this will be the railway's Class 101 DMU in its hybrid blue/green liveries.

The appeal was delivered by Cedric Anselin, former Norwich City football player now a Mental Health Ambassador. He told the gathering at Cromer Parish Hall his poignant personal story

Cromer Air Cadets

Following a difficult few months for their squadron, a resurgent team of Cromer Air Cadets took to the road last month to take part in the Norfolk/ Suffolk wing athletics championships in Ipswich.

This event is the biggest in the wing sports calendar with most squadrons in the wing represented and this year was no exception.

With a team of nine cadets, Cromer's expectations were not high, but by the end of the day nine medals and two trophies had been won.

With five athletes in the under 17 category this was Cromer's strongest age group and they did not disappoint.

Tom Muckley got things off to a good start winning an excellent gold medal in the 800 metres followed by another gold later in the day in the 1500 metres. These exceptional performances deservedly won him the best overall male athlete award.

He was supported by Alex Downing winning silver in the shot put, Harry Yarbo bronze in the javelin, and Jack Thorndyke 5th in the 200 metres. These four then combined their efforts winning another silver medal in the 4 x 100 metre relay race.

With Henry Wright finishing sixth in the discus, the team were pleased to finish third in their age group.

In the 17-20 category Cromer had two competitors. Team captain Toby Mournian won bronze in high jump and javelin, with James Hunter 6th in the long jump.

With the total scores added up, the Cromer team were delighted to win the male small squadron’s team trophy.

With Abigail Whiting finishing 6th in the under 20 shot put, this completed the event - a very successful day for the squadron.

RNLI Welly moves along Norfolk Coast

May is the traditional month for the ‘Welly’ fundraising by the RNLI.

Yellow badges are sold in all shops and outlets connected to the RNLI.

Cromer RNLI had the great pleasure of being given the ‘Welly’ before venturing out to hand it over to Sheringham RNLI. Richard Leeds, Lifeboat Operations Manager said, ‘Bringing to the public’s attention the ‘Welly’ campaign is only part of our work. Raising such vital funds allows the RNLI to continue its work helping those in trouble at sea’. Cromer Times 543 June 9th 2018

North Norfolk District Council hosts national Blue Flag awards ceremony and fellow coastal authorities to the beautiful North celebrates winning six Blue Flags for the district

The annual awards ceremony which sees Keep Britain Tidy hand out Blue Flags and Seaside Awards to local authorities was held in Cromer last month.

Environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy presented 190 awards to England’s very best beaches, including 65 international Blue Flags and 125 Seaside Awards (eight more than last year), with 42 beaches achieving both awards.

Blue Flag winning authorities from Poole to Waveney and Torbay to Hastings were present at the ceremony on Cromer Pier. Organisations including Anglian Water, the RNLI Lifeguards, the Environment Agency, the Marine Conservation Society and parish councils from the Blue Flag towns and villages in North Norfolk also attended.

The suggestion that Cromer could host the event was made during last year’s Blue Flag ceremony, which was held in Bournemouth.

In 2017, North Norfolk District Council had its

most successful set of Blue Flag results when the district secured six flags – at East Runton, West Runton, Cromer, Mundesley, Sea Palling and Sheringham.

NNDC has repeated its success this year with East Runton, West Runton, Cromer, Mundesley, Sea Palling and Sheringham all named in this year’s Blue Flag list.

The awards recognise the top tier of English beaches and are given out only to those sites that have the highest quality of water, facilities, environmental education and management, with superb levels of cleanliness and safety.

Cllr John Lee, Leader of North Norfolk District Council and the Conservative Group, said “We are really proud to have retained our six blue flags in North Norfolk. It is recognition of all the hard work put in by various agencies and voluntary groups.

“Furthermore we are delighted we've been chosen to host this national event and welcomed our

Hedgehog Haven

Norfolk coast.”

Cllr Sarah Butikofer, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group at North Norfolk District Council, said “I’m delighted my own ward, The Runtons, has again been awarded two Blue Flags. Well done to all involved in North Norfolk and beyond.”

Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive Allison Ogden-Newton said “The success of the 148 beaches in reaching the very high standards demanded by both awards is testament to all those who have worked so hard to protect and improve our beaches – from beach managers and volunteers to local people and businesses.

“When you enjoy a trip to a beach flying an international Blue Flag or Seaside Award, you know you are on one of the safest, cleanest and very best in the country.”

As well as the six Blue Flags, the beach at Wells, which is owned by the Holkham Estate but jointly managed by NNDC and the RNLI, won a Seaside Award.

Pictured is a much improved Humphrey who is now eating well so will not need any more medication. He has made a great recovery from his injuries. Biscuit came in with a nasty infection from what appears to be a bite to the side of his face. At the moment he is on antibiotics and I am bathing it with a salt water solution. Until the scab comes off I will not know if his sight has been affected in that eye.

I have been having hedgehogs coming in very dehydrated in this dry hot weather. Please leave out a shallow dish of water it really can make a difference between life and death. Many thanks

Cllr Hilary Cox, Portfolio Holder for the Environment at NNDC, said “The goats have proved to be very popular with visitors, and they have combined that with doing a superb job managing the habitat.

North Norfolk District Council’s famous herd of Bagot goats has arrived back in Cromer as they prepare to spend another summer at the popular seaside resort.

The Bagot goats – which have spent the winter on duty elsewhere in Norfolk – have proved a hit with visitors over the past couple of years, as well as carrying out an important habitat-management role on Cromer’s cliff.

residents and visitors alike.”

The Bagot is believed to be Britain’s oldest breed of goat and unlike most other breeds - that favour mountains and uplands - it developed in the English lowlands. Bagots are very hardy and easy to tame.

This herd first came to Cromer in 2016, when eight goats began the task of keeping the cliff habitat under control. Last year, a further eight were brought down from Cumbria and added to the herd, and the size of their enclosure was also doubled.

“We’re delighted to have them back, and we’re sure they will be welcomed by

Since then, 10 billies were sold to Suffolk Wildlife Trust to make room for the purchase of a complete breeding herd from Somerset earlier this year.

So who has liposuction or liposculpture?

Well, it is everyday people like me and you, not only rich and famous. The majority of our patients are normal people and not toned models sporting six pack chiselled torso that you might see in glossy brochures and magazines. We do see some of these lucky people who want to add a little more definition too!

Our oldest patient is a 76 year old lady who wanted to get rid of the stubborn and uncomfortable abdominal roll. We see middle aged woman who find it hard to shift belly fat after childbirth or that little overhang after caesarean section! We see young and middle aged men who are ex-forces but now find it difficult to stay in shape or shift man boobs. We see young and old with pockets of fact under their chin which is something they seem to have inherited and it seems to be at odds with the rest of their body.

It is not that you have not tried. You have been regularly using the gym and been careful about what you eat but you just can't shift that stubborn area of fat around the mid-section or saddle bags, legs, arms or back… you get the picture. This hard to shift fat can be in any location based on what you inherit.

What do you do next? Thanks to modern technology these concerns can be alleviated in a very short time. Liposuction means a major surgical procedure to most people. What is less well known is that it can be carried out in a safe, gentle and comfortable manner. If I told you that you can have liposuction while listening to music and then walk out of the procedure room-would you believe me? Yes, it is possible and has been for a while. Who is suitable for laser liposuction? Anyone with resistant pockets of fat. You have to be in good general health without significant medical problems and near your ideal body weight. Liposuction is not an alternative to diet and exercise and it is not a weight loss measure. It is purely to remove stubborn deposits of fat and a body sculpting or contouring treatment.

What areas are commonly treated? Mummy tummy, upper and lower abdomen, jowls and neck, double chins, love handles, muffin tops, hips, man boobs or moobs, upper arms, thighs, knees and most other body areas with localised collections of fat.

What happens during the procedure? You will have a medical consultation and treatment plan will be discussed. Fine needles will be used to administer a very dilute solution of local anaesthesia while you will be chatting with the team. A tiny 0.6 mm laser fibre will then be introduced into the treatment area. The laser will be activated to melt the fat and tighten the skin. The laser will not be used if you decide to recycle the fat to enhance other face or body areas such as breasts, buttocks or hands etc. This procedure involves fat injections to add volume. Small stainless steel tubes [micro cannula] will be used to suck out melted fat. Compression garments will then be applied and you will be able to go home. You will need someone to drive you home. What happens after the procedure? You will have dressings and tight compression garments for 24 hours. After this the dressings can be removed and gentle compression used for further 3-5 days. You are encouraged to go for a light walk and bed rest is not recommended. Most people return to normal activities within 2-5 days.

So, if you have wanted liposuction but worry about general anaesthesia, hospitalisation or lengthy recovery period or bruising, give us a call on 0800 0430737 or log on to the website www.coltishallclinic.co.uk for more information.

Dear Margaret,

May I, through your paper, convey my heartfelt thanks to the as yet unknown to me, lady and gentlemen, along with a young man, who stopped to help me, following a fall in Cromer last month. Their assistance given to me after my fall, caused by an uneven path, was very much appreciated. The couple kindly escorted me to the nearest place where I could rest, which was Saffron Insurance in Bond Street. There I was looked after, and able to stem the flow of blood, until I could be taken to the hospital. I particularly wish to pass on my thanks to the Manager Will Howett, and his staff. Thankfully my son was available to collect me and take me to the hospital, where I must also say that I was given first class attention, quickly which was of great comfort to me. Yours sincerely, Bridget Mayes

Our competition was an item beginning with the letter Z. We had a lot of zoos, Zs and even a Zucchini. Myra Hobbs came 1st, Pat Ward 2nd and Doreen Amey was third. Next month we are starting the alphabet again at A. Our last two social events, an Edinburgh Wool Mill fashion show and the Lewin Lunch were both well received. We are now planning for our Strawberry Tea next month.

Cromer Marrams Bowls Club

For al spo your l r ts in N gea Nor orth r folk

News from the Club House ...

What a start to the season! Thermals at the ready! It has been so cold in most of the games and misty at times. So much for summer sport! Never mind, the stalwarts have battled on albeit with many a grumble.

The Crabs team played at home to Whissonsett and again found the opposition too hot to handle. In a 2-7 defeat (40 shots to 71) only Bob, Roger O and Jean N redeemed themselves with a victory on their rink.

In the EBA men’s league we travelled to Bawdeswell to play Lakeside Pilgrims and put in a better performance. Bob, Les, Tony and David M were only beaten on the final two ends, whilst Neil P, David G, Steve and James were pleased to win 23-15. However, it was still an overall defeat 1-4 (46 shots to 68). We continued to struggle, results wise, against Cawston. Although it was tight on 2 rinks for much of the game we lost 0-5, 42 shots to 72, in the final analysis.

We welcomed Sheringham Morley Tigers for the first NANSA game of the season and were defeated 2-6, 47 shots to 54. One winning rink of Jackie, Phil T and Brenda. The second game at home to Southrepps ended similarly with only

a draw on one rink for a 1-7 loss.

We played for the first time in the NANSA 3 wood knockout cup against Cawston. In the 1st leg away Cromer dominated with wins on all 3 rinks and an overall 71-32 lead. The 2nd leg found us up against a stronger team and a 39-56 loss. Overall a 22 shot victory to go into the next round in June. It seems like the cup is what Cromer like as we travelled to Thorpe Rec BC in the Jermy Cup. The mixed ladies and mens team lost on 2 rinks but a great win by 8 shots by Neil C, Roger O, Brenda and Chrissie meant an overall win by just 1 shot, 51-50, phew!

The friendly game with Horsford St.Faiths was an enjoyable afternoon. In a game of 4 triples both teams won 2 each with Cromer winning the overall shots score by 71-68. The visit of Kings Lymm BC was a close affair but Cromer came out on top. A warm afternoon at Weybourne made the visit extra enjoyable and wins on all 3 rinks added to the pleasure for Cromer. A 69-33 victory.

New faces are always welcome at the club. Come along at 10.00am any morning or 7pm on a Friday evening (bar open!) for a roll up and

Cromer Town Football Club

Cromer will be playing in Division 2 of the Anglian Combination next season and despite a reshuffle of the league, the Crabs sadly have been relegated and will play junior football next term.

On a brighter note, Manager Bafode Carvalho will stay at the helm after taking over in the new year.

Bafode and his players deserve credit and praise after they almost achieved their goal of survival when it seemed the Crabs were odds on favourites for
