Cromer RNLI called out to assist Inflatable Boat

Cromer RNLI was asked to launch its inshore lifeboat at 16:41 on Carnival Day. A request had come in from the Coastguard, to reports of an inflatable in difficulties off Overstrand.

Once the crew had been paged, the ‘George and Muriel’, Cromer’s D class inshore lifeboat was launched. Weather conditions were fine with the breeze from the West South West running at 2 – 3 knots, visibility was good and the sea state was flat.

The crew were soon on scene just along the beach near to Overstrand, it was then established that the persons on board were fine and they were escorted to shore and given a few words of advice.

By 17:30 the inshore lifeboat had returned to its station, was washed down refuelled and made ready for its next launch. Photo: Chris Gill

Dear Margaret,

Once again we had a good evening in the Cromer Carnival marquee on the Tuesday of Carnival week.

We were donated 89 prizes this year for the Bingo raffle from local people and traders. We thank them all for their generosity. It enabled us to raise £1322 which will go into the main Carnival fund. Thanks also to all the people who continue to come along and support us each year.

Hope to see you all again next year! Trevor & Valerie Pells and Jim & Janice Woolston

CROMER AND SHERINGHAM PROBUS CLUB

‘Toothache, Saints and Churches’ was the intriguing title of the talk given to us on Tuesday 7 August, by Dr John F Beal, MBE, PhD, Honorary Senior Lecturer at Leeds University. He is also an NHS Consultant and a former Chairman of the Lindsey Society for the History of Dentistry.

Open Monday to Saturday 9.30 - 5pm Groveland, Thorpe Market Rd, Roughton, NR11 8TB

Dr Beal began by asking whether toothache had been a problem in mediaeval England. Letters and diaries of royals and other wealthy people indicated that this was indeed the case. Oral hygiene was rudimentary, and both halitosis and toothlessness were common. Archaeological evidence included skulls where there were signs of decayed teeth and of tooth loss. What might be called ecclesiastical evidence is to be found in sculptures and grotesques in many churches and cathedrals, depicting people grimacing with toothache. For example, two such grotesques are to be found on the south wall of Cromer Parish Church. Dr Beal described some of the 'remedies' used in an attempt to cure toothache, quite often grotesque in themselves, such as the application of boiled liquid from mandrakes or one could go for instance to the blacksmith for him to pull a tooth out! An alternative to these 'remedies' was to pray to various saints, including especially Saint Apollonia, the patron saint of toothache sufferers. Depictions of St Apollonia show her holding some forceps and an extracted tooth! Dr Beal said that in England there are 17 depictions of St Apollonia in 69 churches, of which about two-thirds are in East Anglia and Devon, on rood screens or in stained glass. An example of the latter is a roundel in Norwich Cathedral.

Free Will Review Clapham & Collinge has further strengthened its Private Client team in North Norfolk with the appointment of Senior Solicitor and Wills & Trusts specialist Laura van Ree. As part of welcoming Laura to the firm we would like to offer you the opportunity for a free Will review, with appointments at our North Walsham and Sheringham offices from 1st July 2018. 46-47 Market Place, North Walsham NR28 9BT 3 Augusta Street, Sheringham NR26 8LA info@clapham-collinge.co.uk

Dr Beal fielded a number of questions after this very interesting talk, and he was thanked by the Chairman, Michael Webb. If you are a retired or nearly retired professional or businessman and would like to join us at one of our future meetings, you will be warmly welcomed. Please contact our lunch secretary Dave Vickery on 01263 824306 or visit our website www.candsprobus.club for more information.

SHERINGHAM COASTWATCH IS LOOKING OUT FOR YOU helping to ensure the safety of those at sea or using the beaches and cliff paths.

If variety is the spice of life, being a volunteer with Sheringham Coastwatch might be the ideal task for you.

What other voluntary role ranges from giving water to a thirsty dog to (on one occasion!) helping to dispose of a hand-grenade? Or helping a holiday-maker with weather or tidal information and then helping in a Coastguard search; and all without moving more than ten feet.

Our volunteers keep a lookout over the cliffs, beaches and sea visible from the former Coastguard station high above Sheringham golf course. If we spot someone in trouble, we immediately contact the emergency services (usually HM Coastguard) and provide any assistance required by them.

So as well as enjoying the spectacular views, there is enormous satisfaction in

Whether you are male or female, of working age or retired, you could enrich your life by joining our friendly group of volunteers. Members come from many different backgrounds and ‘work’ for three hours on a weekly or fortnightly basis.

No previous maritime experience is needed. Full on-the-job training and on-going support are provided. Professionalism and common sense are the order of the day, not physical ability.

Would you like to join us? You must be at least 18 years of age and fit enough to walk to the

Station up a fairly steep hill over some uneven ground. Further details and an application form can be downloaded from our website (www.sheringhamcoastwatch.org.uk) or collected from the Station located on the coastal path over Skelding Hill above Sheringham golf course.

At Silver and Ward we pride ourselves in giving our clients peace of mind with our expert legal advice explained in plain English. We work extremely hard during our lives to provide for family and loved ones. However, the majority of us fail to ensure that continues if we become unwell, or when we pass away. So, how can you guarantee that? (1) LPAs (Lasting Power of Attorney) – are a safety net for you and your loved ones if you were to be involved in an accident, or have a diagnosis leading to diminished mental capacity. It is incredibly important to have them in place no matter how old you are. As surprising as it sounds, your spouse, or partner, does not have any legal right to make health decisions on your behalf, or deal with your money and property if you are unable to.

(2 ) Wills – can help you to secure a future for those you leave behind. If you do not leave a Will the Law decides who will inherit your estate. This may not be what you want and it is unlikely to provide adequately for your family. A Will prepared by Silver and Ward can provide reassurance and peace of mind for you and your family and help reduce any risks and pitfalls that may arise in the future. We will write it in plain English to avoid any misunderstandings. We offffer fixed fees for Wills and LPAs so you know immediately how much it is going to cost and a FREE INITIAL APPOINTMENT. We can meet with you in your home, Nursing Home, or Hospital at no extra cost.

Show singer scales new heights to help fight against cancer

A former seaside pier show star is set to step off a skyscraper to help a charity close to her heart. Singer Michele Summers appeared in the Cromer summer show four times – in 1988, 92, 96 and 97 – becoming a firm favourite with her versatile mix of show songs, classics, country and light operatics. She previously played roles in Norwich’s pantomime, having started her career aged just 16 on TV’s Black and White Minstrel Show. Michele, now 65, spends a lot of time in Denver Colorado with husband Dan Woodman, who works in the energy industry, but the couple have retained their home near Cromer too and frequently visit. Last September Michele was diagnosed totally out of the blue, with breast cancer. “It began as a lump, and ended up with three months of chemotherapy and a mastectomy,” she explained. “It was devastating. “I lost my hair – but I quite like my new short cut. After the Michele Summers relaxing operation back in north Norfolk I chose an organic diet and naturapathic treatment. I now feel brilliant, and am happy to be alive.” On the weekend of September 6-8 Michele will abseil down the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Downtown Denver for the Cancer League of Colorado’s annual fundraising event “Over the Edge.”“I am looking forward to it. I like adventure, having skied all my life and enjoyed white water rafting,” she said. “I got carried away with the moment at the charity’s Hope Ball back in May – and put my hand up to volunteer for the challenge. I like an adventure ... but this is extreme for me!” Since it was founded in 1969 the charity has spent $16m on patient care and cancer research. Friends on both sides of the Atlantic have helped Michele almost raise her minimum $1500 in pledges of support but she is appealing to anyone who can help top her up. “It has been suggested that I dig out my old Mary Poppins costume for the day. But the umbrella and carpet bag could get caught in the rigging! Any other suggestions?” she added.

Northrepps Royal British Legion Branch

Our Branch was honoured to have our Standard carried, and our wreath laid on behalf of us, at the GP90 event.

At the moment, we do not have a Standard Bearer, and we thank Peter Howes of Wymondham Branch for his services, and also Colin Chambers of North Walsham Branch for laying our wreath at the Menin Gate.

Members felt in fact, that they were part of this tribute to all those brave men lost and never returned from the Great War. It is hoped that Peter and Colin will be able to come along to one of our Branch Meetings, and hear from them, their memories of being involved in this very emotional event.

At our first 2018 Branch Revival Meeting on 3 September, members were able to see framed photographs of Peter and Colin just before the muster for the march to the Menin Gate. Also on display was our Branch Certificate at the opening of our Branch in 1949. These are now displayed with our World War 1 in St. Mary's Church, Northrepps, which we placed there in August 2014. We have had enquiries from descendants of those named on our War Memorial from all over the country and beyond.

The Branch Revival appears to have gathered much speed since early June this year, and members are looking forward with optimism for its future.

At Remembrance Time, 11 November, 2018, we will be honoured to take part in Northrepps Village WW1 Commemoration, details to be announced now shortly.

For further information, please contact Lorna Fish Branch Chairman on 01263 579633 and a warm welcome awaits anyone who would like to come along to Northrepps Country Cottage Hotel and join our Branch. It is not a requirement to have been a member of the Armed Forces to join.

Turn Tail

10

How can you go off and leave me? Just turn tail and walk out on me? After everything I’ve done for you, To leave shows such disloyalty! When we first met, you were homeless. I welcomed you into my life. Is this the way you repay me? Your perfidy cuts like a knife! If you walk out now, then it’s over, I won’t be your personal doormat! If this is your choice, then so be it. You are a most ungrateful cat! Frances Wraight

Weybourne Folk Weekend

Weybourne Folk Weekend on 14/15/16 September is now in its 8th year. As usual most events are at Weybourne Village Hall (NR25 7AH) and are free apart from the Saturday Night Ceilidh/Barn Dance.

We have always received generous support from Weybourne Community Fund and Blakeney Old Wild Rovers towards the overheads of this increasingly popular event, for which we are very grateful.

We kick-off on Friday evening at 7.30pm at the Village Hall with a free concert featuring ‘The Harvesters’, a very talented trio from Warwickshire whose speciality is bluegrass, americana old time/good time songs and dance. They performed at our first event back in 2011 and we are pleased to welcome them back. They will be staying for the weekend. Local singers and musicians will support.

We start at 1.30pm on Saturday 15 September with local performers followed by Chris Dodson and the Strumsters Ukulele Band from Ely expect some George Formby songs (he did have Norfolk connections). Sarah O’Neill is a superb fiddle player who may bring accomplices. The Harvesters will put in another appearance.

Blakeney Old Wild Rovers will wind up proceedings for one more year.

Why not come along and join in the choruses or just revel in the general entertainment. We offer a raffle each day to help offset the costs of this fine weekend which can’t be beaten for value and top-class performances.

We have a licence to sell beer and tea and coffee will be available. You are also welcome to bring your own food/drinks/glasses to the Village Hall only. We appreciate that the 40’s weekend coincides this year but never mind. Folks in appropriate dress are welcome at all events.

Further information is available from Tony Baylis 01263 588781 or tonyandcarmen@btinternet.com

Thank you from Lily and Eve!

We were pleased to receive a copy of this lovely thank you drawing from a proud grandad in Overstrand whose young granddaughters Lily and Eve obviously enjoyed their holidays!

Saturday evening provides a choice. The annual Ceilidh/Barn Dance at the Village Hall with ‘Blancoes Yard’. Always popular - it doesn’t matter whether you are familiar with the dances or not because full instructions are given and at £6.50 it’s a bargain! You can bring your own drinks and a picnic to this event.

Alternatively make your way to the back room of the Ship Inn for a free sing-around session with local singers and musicians. Both events are from 8pm until 11pm.

On Sunday 16 September we start at 12noon with our annual walk around the sea, cliffs and windmill - 1.5 miles to get to know the locality. Local performers then begin the afternoon at 1.30pm.

Our main guest today is Flossie Malavialle, a French born singer/ guitarist who brings her own unique brand of Geordie/Franglais banter together with a fine voice. The Harvesters will be with us again and

How sharper than a serpent’s tooth it is to have a thankless child! Miranda Marshall, Director, Hayes + Storr

I have long used ‘King Lear’ as a metaphor for caution when carrying out succession planning. Richard Eyre’s powerful and unsettling production for the BBC reminded me of its timelessness. As it is the journalistic ‘silly season’, I hope you will allow me some licence.

Quick plot reminder : The 80-year-old King Lear decides to retire and divides his kingdom of ancient Britain among his daughters, Goneril, Regan and Cordelia, according to their affection for him. Lear's older daughters give their father flattering answers and so inherit but Cordelia, Lear’s youngest and favourite daughter, remains silent, saying that she has no words to describe how much she loves her father. Lear quickly learns that this was a bad decision. Goneril and Regan lose no time in undermining the little authority that Lear still holds. Unable to believe that his beloved daughters are betraying him, Lear slowly goes insane.

Lear is a powerful exploration of greed, love, power and mortality - all themes in the working life of the private client lawyer. Less romantic (and, thankfully, less gory) modern equivalent cases scatter the Law Reports over the centuries.

The diminished power and respect for the older person who has enjoyed ‘giving with warm hands’ on the ‘there are no pockets in shrouds’

principle is a problem.

Making a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) appointing good and independent attorneys, perhaps professionals, to look after your finances, in the event of incapacity and frailty, is vital.

Using the originally-medieval device of a Trust to retain control, but not ownership, could perhaps have saved Lear. Discretionary Trusts are wonderfully flexible and allow for changing family circumstances after the giving of assets.

We should all have a well-drafted and up-todate Will.

Conversely, what about families where the elderly relative is clearly in decline? What to do? In Eyre’s production Anthony Hopkins as Lear swigged away from a hipflask. Perhaps this would explain much of Lear’s behaviour and even that decision to divide his kingdom in a spectacularly misguided bid to prevent ‘future strife’. Had he taken good legal advice, Lear would never have done it!

This article aims to supply general information, but it is not intended to constitute advice. Every effort is made to ensure that the law referred to is correct at the date of publication and to avoid any statement which may mislead. However no duty of care is assumed to any person and no liability is accepted for any omission or inaccuracy. Always seek our specific advice.

September is here

I am wandering through a little wood on this bright September day, my companions are grey rabbits who help me on my way. An owl swoops past me and the rowan berries fall, I see ivy growing thickly on a broken stone wall. A few bright poppies make my pathway light, and I notice that some blackberries are now plump and ripe. The leaves are changing colour, autumn is almost here, although the sun is shining there's a nip in the air. The sky is clouding over, was that a drop of rain? Never mind, I can walk this way again.

Cromer lifeboat launched after missing diver report

A report of a missing diver resulted in Cromer RNLI’s all weather lifeboat ‘Lester’ being launched last month.

Messages were soon received that the diver had been able to get back on the support vessel, but then the vessel itself had problems with its engine.

The crew of ‘Lester’ were soon on the scene, which was seven miles northeast of Bacton to give assistance to the dive boat. Once it became apparent that a tow would be needed this was quickly arranged and the vessel was taken to Sea Palling.

After ensuring the dive boat was safe, the crew of Cromer RNLI’s all weather boat was able to be stood down. It returned to station and by 3.30pm had been recovered to its boathouse, washed down and made ready for its next launch.

Richard Leeds, Lifeboat Operations Manager said, ‘Reports of a lost diver, like all missing persons, need to be acted upon immediately. We were soon on scene and were pleased that the diver had managed to get back on board. Our Tamar class boat has the capability to tow other vessels and we were pleased to be able to give assistance today’. Photo: Paul Russell

THE WORLD’S BIGGEST COFFEE MORNING and ‘BRAVE THE SHAVE’ On 28 September from 10.30am to 12.30pm North Norfolk Railway will be holding a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Sheringham Station, as so many of our fellow volunteers and friends have reason to be thankful to Macmillan Cancer Care.

There will be coffee and cakes galore, competitions, and general fun. Brenda and Biz Bizzell will be ‘Braving the Shave’. Both their heads will be shaved, but, if joint sponsorship reaches £1000, Biz’s chin will be revealed for the first time in 30 years!

To donate, there are links on the Macmillan website to Brave the Shave, or you can sign a sponsorship form in the General Office at Sheringham Station. A collecting box will also be there for any donations.

For further information please contact Brenda Bizzell on 01263 824390

RNLI Cromer assist ill crew member on survey boat

When reports came in last month from UK Coastguard of a crew member with abdominal pains who needed to be bought to shore, pagers alerted the Cromer RNLI all weather crew of ‘Lester’ to assemble at the boathouse.

The doctor on the survey boat had requested assistance to transfer the crew member to hospital by ambulance as soon as possible. Cromer RNLI immediately responded to the request and the lifeboat travelled the mile off shore to pick up the patient. An ambulance was requested to meet the lifeboat and transfer the patient to hospital. With a calm sea and good visibility the crew of RNLI Cromer were soon at the scene.

Once the handover had been accomplished and the boat had been rehoused, shore crew cleaned down the lifeboat and it was refuelled and made ready for the next callout.

Tackling difficult areas with fillers

Why do fillers frequently look so false? Why you need to see an experienced doctor to minimise risks of going under the needle

A few years ago the Sunday Times did an article on downside of fillers called ‘The Joker Face’. “You’ve seen this face – it’s everywhere. There’s something muzzle-like about the nose and mouth. The lips are taut and bulbous, and a little wonky when they smile. In extreme cases, the cheeks sit like ping pong balls under spongy skin, eyes peering out of puffy sockets. The ‘pillow face’, our current answer to the 1990s wind-tunnel look, is down to dermal fillers. These semi-permanent gels are injected into the lips, cheeks and the lines between the nose and the mouth in a bid for youthful plumpness. Trouble is, the result is often not eternal youth, but a face like a water-retentive lion …"

Unfortunately things have got worse with this becoming almost the normal. Facial rejuvenation is an art and a science. It requires a thorough understanding of facial anatomy, facial ageing, skin, soft tissue and bone structure. This knowledge and skill requires years of study and practice. Artful injection treatments can produce some very nice and pleasing results. ‘The results should whisper and not scream’.

The temples, chin, jawline, tear trough and forehead are difficult to inject so you need an experienced doctor to do these and not someone who injects fillers ‘on the side’. Ask your practitioner how many filler injections they do and can they show some before and after photos. When injecting fillers it is important to stay away from the important structures such as nerves and blood vessels. So a deep understanding of anatomy is essential. When the jaw angle gets blurred, it makes a huge difference in how the person is perceived. We can inject fillers to contour the jawline, angle of the jaw and chin. Botulinum toxin injections remain popular for this area as in Nefertiti lift. As we age, we start to lose a little chin projection. This can be restored using fillers.

Another area where age-related changes can be very visible is the temple. There is not only loss of fat but also loss of other soft tissues and bone. Additionally, patients can develop sun damage, skin laxity and muscle

thinning. We are trying to replace a three-dimensional, multi-structural loss with one or two injection. We can usually get most of the temporal areas filled effectively with one or two injections. That minimizes the risk of danger and produces very nice and effective yet subtle rejuvenation.

We routinely inject fillers in frown lines and forehead lines but this is a tricky area to inject-even for very experienced practitioners. A more comprehensive approach to the forehead involves three-dimensional forehead reflation. This approach differs drastically from simply filling lines because it requires placing fairly substantial amounts of filler on underlying bone while avoiding the blood vessels. This is a challenging technique that can produce beautiful results.

There is more to dermal filler injections than simple line filling. Strategic placement of small volumes can produce very nice and natural results and avoid so called ‘pillow face’. North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection

Charley, the cat mentioned last time, has had a recurrence of his skin problem and is now receiving further treatment. Until this has been completely cleared up he will not be available for adoption.

Kittens, Jessie, Joffrey and Laine have left for new homes and cats, Will and Jazz have been reserved. We have also had people contacting us who may be interested in giving homes to Bobo, Millicent, Mittens and Rosy. Stephanie will be able to give them more information on the cats when they call, as it is important to ensure they have the right cat for their circumstances and to make sure the new home is not too close to their old one. With the summer holidays ending, and a more bearable temperature, we are hoping that there will be lots more enquiries from people wishing to offer our cats and kittens new homes.

When the cats come into care, we ask the person handing them in to give as much information as they can about the cats. This helps us to identify the type of home they will need and whether or not they are likely to enjoy living with other cats, or with dogs and also whether they would be suitable for homes with young children. They can also advise on what food they have been eating and whether or not they have been on a special diet or have ongoing health problems. This information helps us to find the right home for each cat. Obviously, when a cat is handed in by someone other than its previous owner, or because it is a stray, this is not always possible. It usually takes a few days for the cat to settle and adapt to coming to live in one of our pens, which must feel very strange to them, especially if they come from a house and have had free access to going outside. It is not the natural environment for them and some adapt better than others. Some are quite confident and actually blossom while in care. Others, because they are confined will not show their true nature until they have settled in their new home. There is a home out there for them all and Stephanie will be able to identify which ones will suit your lifestyle.

This number is for vouchers only and will not be able to help with Rosy, has finished her maternity duties any other enquiries. and is now available for adoption The number also applies for those wishing to take advantage of our special neutering campaign.

If you are looking for a cat or kitten (or have any other queries) please give Stephanie a call on 01692 535858. Alternatively, you can visit www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk/ for a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a call on the above number to find out where any particular cat is being fostered.

We are now on Facebook. You can find us under Cats Protection North Walsham.

Hedgehog Haven

Titch, Joe and Digger came into my care after their mum had died. Titch had a bad case of lungworm and was rapidly losing weight. She only weighed 90 Gms. As lungworm is contagious, all three were treated and had a course of antibiotics.

Lungworm is very often fatal, especially for hoglets, and they have a long way to get to release weight, but I am pleased to say that all three are still with me and slowly gaining weight.

Emily Rose Fine Art Debut Wildlife Exhibition ‘First Flight’ Emily Rose is holding her debut exhibition this October, (3 – 16), at the scenic Cley Marshes

Visitors Centre, the Norfolk Wildlife Trusts ‘oldest and best known nature reserve’.

EMILY ROSE FINE ART DEBUT EXHIBITION:

µFIRST FLIGHT¶ CLEY MARSHES VISITORS CENTRE

OCTOBER 3RD ± 16TH An exquisite collection of wildlife paintings from 1RUIRON¶V¶ newest artist

Emily Rose is a brand new face on the Norfolk wildlife art scene and her young talent holds much promise for what is to come. She specialises in pastel paintings of local wildlife, from Avocets to Hares, Swallows to Spoonbills and you will feel as though you are face to face with nature through her exquisite rendering of British wildlife.

This October, will be the first opportunity to acquire wildlife paintings by the young artist. Emily Rose will have a beautiful selection of original, framed work on display as well as an option of quality mounted prints. The artist herself will also be on site during the exhibition and would be delighted to share her knowledge of the works on show, giving insight to her working method and practices (to see which dates Emily Rose will be at Cley, please visit her website).

The artist is a new up and coming talent with a keen eye for detail and has already attained a professional standard in just a few short years. This exhibition is an exciting opportunity to see her work first hand and for the very first time.

Entry to her debut exhibition is free and all are very welcome.

For more information visit: www.emilyrosefineart.co.uk All are very welcome and entry to the exhibition is free.

Cromer Marrams Bowls Club

The second half of the season has only recently started for the NANSA team due to call offs! The visit to league leaders Cawston was played with one player less again, but with a very good excuse from the ‘missing’, their car very nearly caught fire on route! Fortunately no damage to the driver and they missed seeing Brenda, Jack and Neil P win on the last end on their rink. All to no avail in a final score 2-6. The return home fixture found us up against a stronger team and no surprise then that we lost 0-8 (29-75). The next day Cromer entertained West Runton with a similar result, 0-8 (30-54)

The carnival ‘spoon drive’ was keenly contested with no outstanding positive or negative scores. Bernard and Gaye were top of the pile, well done!

The visit to Holt BC in a friendly ended well with a 3-1 rinks win, 78-47. Thanks to Holt for a lovely afternoon and the hospitality. Watton BC visited us as usual. In a close contest Cromer won on 3 rinks to 2, 81 shots to 70. Winning rink was led by Bob with Jackie and Jack. Holt ladies came to Cromer for an afternoon of bowls and a buffet and went away with a 28-47 win. Our first visit, for a few years, to Aldiss Park BC at Dereham was an enjoyable affair and closely fought. Both teams won on 2 rinks with Cromer victorious by 57-54 shots. Well done to Keith, Brenda and Kathleen on their win.

Presidents Day was well attended by over 25 members. A version of Australian pairs was played over 3 games of 6 ends with individual scores kept. Pride of place at the end went to Phil T with a +20 shot score followed by Chrissie (+18) and Les (+16). More important over £100 was raised to share between EACH and Alzheimer charities. Well done President Philip.

Members continue to compete in the final rounds of the Club competitions, with the competition reaching its climax this weekend 7-9 September. All the best to all the finalists.

The green is still open until the end of September so there is time to come along at 10.00am any morning for a roll up and see what fun you can have. More info from Edna 01263 511155.

Matches to watch at Runton Road in the next few weeks are Club Competition Finals Fri 7 to Sun 9 Sept, Peter Bird Memorial Trophy Finals Wed 12 Sept 1pm, Felmingham BC (NANSA) Thurs 13 Sept 2pm and Holt BC (friendly) Fri 14 Sept 2pm.

SwanSports is for those athletes who just like to run

The session will focus on the fundamentals of running, working on the principles of strengthening the inner core base, offering the athlete an insight in to the technique of running, running drills, run session, sprint start & sprint training and finishing with some fun interaction running games.

Athletes will come to learn the basic movements of running, and each activity will support the athlete to refine these movements into more defined movement techniques.

Fundamental movement skills are important in the physical development of an athlete and when an athlete is confident and competent with these skills, they can develop sport-specific and complex movement skills; supporting their running journey.

Dear Mrs. Smith I must object To the way you called me 'old', I really am as young as I feel, I'm strong and keen and bold My age is immaterial I still look almost young, I'm placid, meek and good-looking And still not highly strung I might veer to the right hand side And go a steady ten But I can go even faster Just like other men My eyesight is quite normal I can see for twenty feet And although I'm vegetarian I still eat lots of meat. So you see, my age is nothing Of that I am emphatic So you must stop saying that I'm old
