North Norfolk wins big at Building Awards 2019 Robson Construction, Chaplin Farrant Ltd and Wells Maltings Trust.

North Norfolk District Councils (NNDC) Building Control team and its customers had another successful night at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) East Anglian Building Excellence Awards 2019.

The LABC Building Excellence Awards recognise the importance of building control in England and Wales in creating safe, accessible and sustainable buildings that are constructed to high standards.

This year more than 240 construction professionals attended the Awards at the magnificent buildings of the Halls, St Andrews Plain in Norwich on Friday July 5. The awards showcased buildings and design teams that have come up against complex technical or construction issues across East Anglia, with several north Norfolk projects beating out the stiff competition.

The prizes didn’t stop there, Stow Windmill, Paston, North Walsham undertaken by Roger Hough and P H Design and Planning Ltd also received a Highly Commended award. While Robson Construction were also shortlisted for an individual award making it to the regional finals, along with the Holkham Orientation Centre.

WHY CHOOSE WHY CHOOSE SILVER & WARD WARD SILVER SOLICITORS in in 2019? 20 19 ? SOLICITORS

“It’s a recurrent misconception that a larger firm is better.”

I am Clare Mayell and I own Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor. I appreciate that any time of the year can be a difficult time fo or many people to resolve legal issues of worry and concern, for example, making a will or Lasting Power of Attorney. As I have worked for 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norfolk or Norwich and I provide 22 years of expertise and exceptional service. I pride myself in being one of the only solicitors who offffers a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, so clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an informed decision. At a larger firm you just pay more. When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. I advise new clients to “shop around” as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can offer the same expertise, if not better. I have and can act for clients across Norrffolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs.

“I would say to any potential client with a legal issue or worry in 2019 to come and meet me face to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain.

Home visits can be arranged or appointments outside of office hours including Saturdays. 0 1263 8 23465 or email clare@silverandward.co.uk 01263 823465

Top organist boosts Friends with concert of classics

A concert of organ music classics has raised some “notes” for the North Walsham War Memorial Hospital Friends. The event, staged at the town’s parish church, saw Jon Payne play a programme of music for a summer’s evening. It ranged from Handel’s Water Music to the Eurovision theme tune (aka Charpentier's Te Deum) and raised £150 which has been split between the church and the Friends.

Jon, an eminent musician with 30 years’ experience, lives in Sheringham Organist Jon Payne and became Photo: Jon Payne aware of the Friends through the a fund-raising comedy night.

Friends chairman Keith Jarvis said: “We really appreciate it when people hold fund-raising events for us. It shows the support the hospital and its Friends have, and how word is spreading about the work we do.”

To support the Friends with a fund-raising event, or via a donation, legacy, or by signing up as a member, find out more at our website www.northwalshamhospitalfriends.org.uk

Cromer and District Garden Society

As we take a break from our programme of events it is worth looking back at what has been a very busy summer so far. One highlight was our success in the annual inter-society quiz with our friends from Hoveton/Wroxham and Sheringham societies. A team made up of Jenny Pawson, Michele Tracy, Angela Jupp and Sue Croton was the individual winner and Cromer won the team cup so well done to everyone who took part. That makes it three years in a row that we have won the competition. Next year Sheringham are the hosts so we will need to be at our best to continue our winning run.

We have had two successful outings this summer. A visit to Waveney and Chet Valley vineyard was blessed with hot, sunny weather and although it was too early in the year to see grapes on the vine we enjoyed a tour of the wine making facilities and an opportunity to sample five of the wines produced there. Raveningham Hall Gardens was the destination for our second outing and this also proved very enjoyable. We always try to call in at a nursery or garden centre on our way back from the places we have visited. Both outings were to places not far from Loddon in South Norfolk. Green Pastures Nursery at Berg Apton is well worth a visit as it has a range of interesting and unusual plants. Highways Nursery at Framlingham Pigot is a large garden centre so it was interesting to compare what was on offer at very contrasting places.

The speaker at our July meeting was Francis Farrow who is Honorary Warden of Beeston Common between Cromer and Sheringham. His talk covered the social as well as the natural history of the common. The area is a mixture of mires, grassland and heath so it hosts a wide range of plants, insects and amphibians. Eighteen varieties of dragonfly and twenty-five varieties of butterfly have been recorded there in recent years along with six varieties of orchid and twenty eight varieties of plants. Given the pressures placed on the environment in recent years the work done by the volunteers who tend the common and maintain its unique habitat deserves our support so why not visit it to show your appreciation. New volunteers are always needed as well.

Our next meeting is in September when we will be having our autumn members’ show. Let’s hope for a fairly benign summer so that members can produce quality entries. As gardeners we live in hope! On 15 July our fellow member and demonstrator David Wight showed us some stunning arrangements on musicals.

The first was based on Mary Poppins in a chimney pot with aspidistra leaves, eucalyptus, euonymus and leucadendrons. The flowers were lilies, purple antirrhinums and liianthuss and the effect was completed with a chimney brush.

We then went to ‘Love Never Dies’ in a red heart with a sparkly ribbon. The heart shape was filled with greenery including conifer and pittosporum. He added deep red naomi roses, red gerberas, green hypericum, lisianthus and everlasting sweet peas. We benefitted from the fact that he had just visited his son and cut his grass on arrival and his shrubs on departure!

Then we joined Abba for ‘Mamma Mia; with large tropical leaves and fatsia leaves in an oval shaped frame. This was a triangular arrangement with green chrysanthemums, antirrhinums and orange Marie Claire roses.

‘Joseph’ was represented in a frame of different coloured wool and buttons. The foliage were ferns and beginia leaves and the flowers unusually just one type gerberas, but in lots of colours. It was complimented with a beautifully made cloak of many colours!

The ‘Sound of Music’ was represented by a trumpet on a stand with oasis perched on the top. It was filled with fatsia, phormium, peris and strawberry tree with cream roses, yellow germinis, white lisianthus and golden rod.

Lastly we had the Lion King and ‘Circle of Life’ which was based on a metal circle with greenery at the base and the top. These contained palm, rubus, senecio, white roses, white anirrhinums, white gerberas, and large scented white carnations. Then a wooden zebra appeared to complete the design.

The vote of thanks was given by Jill Breeze. Best in show in the arrangement in a cup and saucer competition was Liz Crane with a very colourful cup full of flowers from her garden, including lavender, roses, pinks and daisies.

Our next meeting is on 16 September in the Junior School at 7.20pm when we will welcome Fiona Harrison on ‘Flowers of Scotland’. The competition is ‘Purple Haze’.

Abuse and loneliness

Miranda Marshall, Director, Hayes + Storr

As I head off to London for the annual Solicitors for the Elderly (SfE) national conference I am reminded about the real world background to some of the legal work that I do.

This year one of the six seminars covers the hot topic of elder victims of fraud and abuse, including that arising within the family. Another seminar covers the role of the solicitor as an important safeguard in managing finances. The Master of the Court of Protection will talk on whether abuse of the elderly could be considered as a ‘hate crime’, with all the stringent penalties that follow. The relationship of family dynamics and abuse of the elderly and how longstanding unresolved conflict, identity and roles of family members, mental health and financial circumstances may influence how an elderly person is treated. We will learn how to identify these ‘red flags’ and what can be done to protect the elderly.

The NHS website states that according to Age UK more than 2 million people over age 75 live alone and more than a million older people say that they go for over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbour and family member. People can become socially isolated for a variety of reasons, such as getting older or weaker, no

longer being the hub of their family, leaving the work place, the death of spouses or friends, or through disability or illness. Whatever the cause, it’s shockingly easy to be left feeling alone and vulnerable, which can lead to depression and a serious decline in physical health and wellbeing.

The idea that technological advances will be able to replace human-interaction has a scarily science fiction quality to it; ticking (or should that be clicking?) boxes, rather than holding hands.

Wells-next-the-Sea is lucky to have Heritage House providing day care for those living in Wells and the surrounding area. The visitors receive a home-cooked two course lunch, the option of a bath and hairdressing, access to a wide-range of public sector agencies support and NHS services, activities including singing, seated-exercise and the garden, and for many most importantly, companionship.

Volunteers are always needed and are fundamental to the running of Heritage House. They drive and assist on the minibuses, help in the garden and, simply, but most valuably, spend time and interact with the day visitors.

In the world of political correctness,

s

a significant proportion of a very vulnerable sector of our population, i.e. the elderly, has been somewhat forgotten as needing special support. In some circles the elderly are even seen as privileged, compared with young people; perhaps this is not unreasonable when looking at the cost of housing. Targeting resources is important, providing the money saved (e.g. on the removal of free TV licences for all over 75) is spent on our elderly citizens where it is needed.

Hedgehog Haven

Our speaker was Lyn Hatch who is responsible for organizing the annual British Legion Poppy Appeal. Her fact filled talk was linked into a series of slides and kept us listening intently.

I have now separated Mother & her babies (late July). She will be going back to be released in time to find another mate & have a second litter.

We learned many little-known other areas of action such as care for widows of service personnel and acting for the British Legion as custodians of remembrance at Whitehall and the Royal Albert Hall.

While most of us are familiar with the poppy appeal, monies raised also go to fund British Legion care homes.

Halsey House in Cromer provides 24/7 care for its residents and is much sort after, as evidenced by the lengthy waiting list.

Meanwhile a “handyman is available to instigate small changes which may allow those waiting to continue to live in their own homes with dignity.

Such provision is of course expensive, and we heard that around one million pounds is needed every week. All sorts of help is available to ease the difficult return to civilian life. Provision of relatively simple aids can and does make an enormous difference.

In reality the actual number reared successfully per female in a season is only about two or three, so this mother has done very well in rearing all four of her litter. The four babies I have housed into two couples to avoid fighting. In the wild they would usually grow large & bold enough to wander off on their own at about 6 weeks of age. As they are now approaching that age, it will not be long before the two larger ones will also be going to be released. Find us on Facebook Hedgehog Haven North Norfolk.

Moving with the times, next year the symbolic poppies for buttonholes and wreaths will eventually dissolve, thus being recyclable.

We were reminded that more volunteer poppy sellers were needed to keep funds flowing in allowing this essential organization to continue the good work which it does so well.

The business part of the meeting was efficiently conducted, and members departed with a reminder that we were invited to bring some “healthy food and drink items to our Wellbeing meeting in August, which will be held on the SECOND Wednesday in the month.

Norfolk based artists win Holt Festival Art Prizes

A South African artist, now based in North Norfolk has been announced as this year’s winner of Holt Festival’s Sir John Hurt Art Prize and the accompanying cheque for £1,750.

Margie Britz was awarded the top prize by the judges who had to select from almost 250 entries from around the country. After lengthy deliberations her picture Blue Moon, gouache and graphite on paper, torn and collaged was unanimously chosen by the three member judging panel.

Rhodes University, South Africa, from 1967 to 1970. She taught fine art at the Port Elizabeth Technikon (now Nelson Mandela University) before returning to Rhodes University to teach painting and drawing and theory of art. She moved to North Norfolk in the early 80s, first to Salthouse then to Melton Constable and works as a professional artist. Britz has exhibited internationally and has work in major international collections both corporate and private.

Oliver’s prize is a cheque for £750 and a commission free exhibition at The Gallery in Lees Yard, Holt.

Holt Festival Fine Art Director James Glennie who organizes the prize commented ‘I am delighted that we had so many fabulous entries again this year. The standard really does go from strength to strength and our distinguished judges had not one but two very difficult decisions to make. The addition of The Sworders Prize makes it all the more interesting, to see such fine work from young people ’.

Wild Goings On At Mundesley Library Normally libraries are quiet places, especially on a Friday evening. But Mundesley Library was the exception to the rule recently as Mundesley Library Friends held their 5th talk.

A 30lb tortoise made its way steadily among the bookshelves whilst a carrion crow stole the show by flying and hopping between light fittings, bookshelves and other perches.

They were ably assisted by a Barn Owl, white dove, hedgehog, bearded dragon and a snake. Human support was given by David & Christian from the Wild Touch Wildlife Centre based in Ridlington. David impressed us with his encyclopaedic knowledge of all these animals whilst Christian brought all of them around the nearly 30 strong audience and the children in the audience were so excited by the chance to touch and be photographed with a range of wild animals close up but several of the adult audience members seemed even keener!

The serious work of the centre was not forgotten and David told how Wild Touch keeps the animals either permanently in a safe environment or until they can safely be released back to the wild.

To find more about the work of this valuable local charity or to find how you can help visit the website at wildtouch7.wixsite.com/wildtouch.

Mundesley Library Friends now take a summer break with no further talks planned until October. They will not be idle, however, as they will be assisting the library staff in the children’s Summer Reading Challenge which runs throughout the school holidays with a number of events planned including model making and slime making workshops.

Further details are available from the Library 01263 720702.

Cromer Chamber of Business:

Cromer Inshore Lifeboat called out to search for missing person

A Growing Success

Following a call from the UK Coastguard, Cromer’s inshore Lifeboat ‘George and Muriel’ was asked to assist in a search for a missing person on 18 July.

The Cromer Chamber of Trade and Business has seen impressive growth over the last couple of years. Member numbers are up by over 60% as more local businesses get on board to strengthen the collective voice of the town’s traders.

The increase in numbers has brought about an upturn in participation. Meetings are better attended and the Facebook page is used more and more for sharing anything from information on up-coming opportunities to warnings about counterfeit notes being passed off around the town.

on the East Beach in Cromer

The Chamber’s focus is always on promoting the interests of its members and of Cromer more widely. For some years the Chamber has produced a map and guide for visitors; it also takes an active role in promoting the town at events such as the Norfolk Show. Members also work through the Chamber to coordinate their input and participation in local events such as the Crab & Lobster Festival and, of course, the annual Carnival. This year, with the Late Night Friday campaign, many local shops are staying open later on Friday evenings throughout the summer, improving the town’s offering to visitors and residents alike.

The inshore lifeboat was launched at around 7.25pm to reports of a person in distress somewhere along the seafront

The weather conditions were still bright with a slight breeze and still water.

After a sweep around the pier and then along the stretch of water from Cromer to Overstrand and back, the distressed person was eventually found by the other emergency services.

The Cromer crew bought the inshore lifeboat back to station and its was cleaned down, refuelled and rehoused by 8.05pm. photos: Rose Syer

The Chamber has important links to the Town and County councils, and coordinates closely with the Town Council’s Promotions Committee.

With the town buzzing with summer tourists, it is easy to forget what it can be like out of season. Businesses need to survive for twelve months of the year and the “Cromer 365” initiative has done a lot to promote Cromer as an all-year-round destination.

Introducing the new owners...

The Chamber is always keen to welcome new members.

Happisburgh Lifeboat Station Information that could Save Your Life

This was the message that the RNLI Community Safety Team along with Norfolk Fire Service, Norfolk Police Broads Beat, HM Coastguard, Hemsby and Sea Palling Lifeboats and Lowland Rescue delivered at Richardsons Boat Yard, Stalham for their Norfolk Day event held on Saturday 27 July.

The RNLI Community Safety Team, with all the other organisations, were giving out information that could save your life when around water. The aim was not to stop people from having fun in the water but to do it in a safe way. It has been heart breaking to hear of the number of deaths from drowning in the past few days.

So all the agencies were giving out the same message.

On the beach always swim where there are Lifeguards on duty; if this is not possible then never swim by yourself, always have someone

on the beach who has a mobile phone or other means of getting help. If people are in trouble call 999 and ask for the Coastguard who will get help to you.

Near inland waterways the advice is to not jump into these as you are not aware of what is under the water, i.e. weeds metal objects, posts or how deep the water is and how strong the currents are. Again, if you see anyone in trouble then call 999 and ask for the Coastguard as they know where all the resources are that can get to you quickly, as well as Fire, Police and Ambulance.

If you fall unexpectedly into water:

1. Fight your instinct to thrash around 2. Lean back, extend your arms and legs 3. If you need to, gently move them around to help you float 4. Float until you can control your breathing 5. Only then call for help or swim to safety

If you intend to go to the beach or rivers / inland waters then go on the internet to find out as much information as you can, check tide times, where Lifeguards operate, supervised

Norfolk’s 2019 Heritage Open Days festival brochure is launched at historic Marble Hall

This year’s Heritage Open Days (HODs) festival brochure with ten unmissable days of free tours, talks, walks, open days, exhibitions, performances and shows planned across Norfolk was launched last month.

Heritage champions, local dignitaries and festival organisers gathered at Marble Hall for the launch – with the historic home of Aviva at Surrey House one of the many venues opening its doors for tours throughout the festival.

HODs is England’s largest festival of history and culture and this year marks the 25th anniversary, with a special ‘People Power’ theme being celebrated across many events. The theme demonstrates the influence groups and individuals have had over history to bring about positive change in their communities – and in Norfolk events include a new Kett’s Rebellion Tour, a display on the Burston School Strike and a guided story of Edith Cavell.

This year’s festival takes place from Friday 13 September to Sunday 22 September, with more than 350 events lined-up in Norwich and across Norfolk.

The festival brochure is available to pick up now from The Forum in Norwich as well as Tourist Information Centres, libraries and venues across the county and electronically at www.theforumnorwich.co.uk/hods.

All festival events are free to attend with many available for visitors to drop-in on the day unless indicated otherwise in the festival brochure. Some popular venues and events with limited space must be pre-booked, with bookings opening on Monday 29 July at 10am.

The brochure launch event was organised by The Forum Trust and kindly hosted by Aviva. The HODs programme is coordinated and promoted by The Forum Trust with support from Norwich City Council, Norwich Tourist Information Centre, Broadland District Council, Breckland Council, Thetford Town Council, Great Yarmouth Borough Council, South Norfolk Council, North Norfolk District Council, Visit North Norfolk and many local organisations and individuals.

Mary-Jane

Where are you going Mary-Jane with the heart of gold we love? Where are you going Mary-Jane; we know you’ve been before. So do we follow your golden heart where you have been before? Oh, tell us, tell us Mary-Jane, what is there there to see? More golden hearts that we may take and be like Mary-Jane? And is there behind that wooden door the secret to your fame? Open, open Mary-Jane, they call, but all in vain, The room is empty nothing in it, until in steps Mary-Jane. And then the room is filled with love which comes from Mary-Jane, For Mary-Jane has a Golden Heart from all the Love she’s given. Chris Hargest

North Norfolk District Council shortlisted for two APSE awards

- Success for Goats on a Slope

networking community that assists local authorities who are striving to improve their frontline services.

North Norfolk District Council has been shortlisted as finalists in two APSE categories - Best Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship Initiative and Best Innovation or Demand Management Initiative.

The annual seminar will take place in Newcastle and the winners will be announced on Thursday 12 September.

This is in recognition of the success of our unique Goats on a Slope, including the utilisation of the Bagot herd for cost-effective vegetation maintenance and subsequent launch of themed merchandise, proceeds from which are re-invested in the project.

Cllr.Sarah Bütikofer, Leader of North Norfolk District Council said “I am delighted the innovative and creative approach taken by the team to solve an environmental problem has received such wide spread public support and is now shortlisted for a national award. I will be keeping my fingers crossed for the team on 12 September.”

Recycling your own fat! Fat transfer for facial and body contouring A three dimensional face lift or body augmentation.

Age and nature can be very unkind to us. We tend to gain weight were we don’t want and lose it from where we don’t want to! This is due to physiology of ageing, our hormones and metabolism.

We can however cheat a little to help reverse these changes. We can take fat from where we don’t want it and put a little where we want it. Sounds exciting!

A lot of us think about improving our facial or body contours, whether it is to lose some fat from diet and exercise resistant areas or just to look good. Liposuction has come of age and is now performed purely under local anaesthesia. What is even more attractive is that we can now recycle this fat to fill out areas where you have lost volume from!

Fat is your own natural filler. Fat is not merely a passive ‘filler'. It is an active metabolic tissue

and a rich source of various growth factors and stem cells. Use of fat to fill areas of volume loss is not new but we have new techniques and refinements which make it very successful. This procedure is very attractive if you are also considering body contouring or liposuction. Recent problems with breast implants have made fat transfer procedure attractive for breast enhancement.

What happens with facial ageing? The old method of looking at facial ageing was based on a gravitational model: that all things fall over time. The new model of the facial ageing process focuses on the primary importance of how the face deflates and loses volume decade after decade. What was once thought to be sagging has now been understood to be caused by facial deflation. A facelift without volume restoration looks artificial. Replacing lost fat results in a natural look.

What happens with ageing of the body? Redistribution of body fat occurs due to

20

changes in metabolism and ageing. Fat is lost from certain body areas and face and accumulates in other areas such as chin, jowls, hips and thighs. These localised deposits of fat can be resistant to diet and exercise.

What is fat transfer? Fat transfer is the transfer of fat from one part of your body to another. A doctor must carefully harvest fat cells that are then injected to firm, fill out or plump up other body part like faces, hands, cheeks, breasts or buttocks. This is also known as fat injections or autologous fat grafting. Since it is your own body fat there is no chance of allergic reactions. Some of the injected fat can be reabsorbed by the body and more than one session may be required.

This procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. The fat injections create a lasting youthful appearance.

Cromer to become tennis coaching centre

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) entry level coaching course, LTA Level 1, is now being offered in Cromer!

Such courses are only very rarely held in Norfolk and this is the first time for a LTA Level 1 to be held at Cromer. Most LTA courses are held in London and other big centres around the country.

The coaching course is a 3-day course on August 20th, August 21st and September 29th 2019, and is being held at Cromer Lawn Tennis & Squash Club with indoor provision at Easton if weather inclement. This LTA Level 1 course is open to players aged 16 and above and is listed on the LTA courses website www.lta.org.uk and being promoted by Norfolk Tennis (Norfolk LTA).

LTA Level 1 is the entry level qualification for coaching and enables players to become assistant coaches at tennis clubs. Players can then quickly go on to level 2 to enable them to coach groups and then indeed to Level 3 to enable them to coach individuals, working independently. A number of young people find tennis a good way of paying their way through higher education – by assisting with the tennis at College sports centres and giving lessons to their fellow students. Some get summer jobs as coaches in the Mediterranean or even do their gap year as a tennis coach.

It is also a fabulous opportunity for older club players to take up a

LIFE LIGHT - the new name for Beach Mission! Sunday 25th to Friday 30th August

The LTA Level 1 course is fun – you learn so much in technique, teaching technique and organising groups of children.

Cromer Lawn Tennis & Squash Club sees itself as a club providing a happy fun place for players of all ages and abilities, especially the disabled, to enjoy tennis; but the LTA I level course could be the start of the Cromer club becoming a nursery of tennis coaches.

Cromer Marrams Bowls Club News from the Club House ...

Cromer ‘Crabs’ haven’t played a fixture recently, but they are well placed to finish near the top, as are 5 other clubs! It makes for a very interesting final 2 games!

In the EBA league the men travelled to Bawdeswell to play Lakeside Pilgrims and were unfortunate to lose 1-4 (51-77). David M, Andrew H, Bob A and Gary Y won 22-18 and a 2nd rink only lost on the final shot of the final end after a great fightback from 19-3 down. Cawston visited us with hopes of going top of the league, and they did with a 4-1 victory (51-73). Cromer’s winning rink was James P, John B, Les K and Neil C, 24-17.

In the NANSA league Cromer continue to head the table after winning 6 – 2 at home to Erpingham BC, 56 shots to 42 (winning rink Bob B, Andrew H and Roger O. The visit to Smallburgh and Dilham BC in the heat was reduced to 12 ends and resulted in a 6 - 2 win for Marrams by 30 to 21 shots. Best rink was Brenda S, David M and Roger O (18–6).

Watton BC visited for the return friendly fixture but were beaten on all 4 rinks, 2 very narrowly, for a 76-46 shots win for Cromer. Top rink was John H, Philip E and James P, 24-9. We were due to visit R.G.Carter BC in Norwich for a friendly match but they were unable to raise a team. However, we were very pleased to welcome Wymondham Dell BC as usual. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon, no matter how the game went, and it finished in a 3-3 rink draw. However, Cromer scored a little more highly to be victorious 105-99. Top rink was David M, Andrew H and David G, 24-8.

At the Carnival Challenge on Thursday 22nd August (1.30pm) come and spectate and have fun. At 2.30pm we have a ‘spider’ raffle for £1 to win a bottle. Then either take part in the barefoot bowls challenge (can you beat a member(s), singles/pairs over 6 ‘ends’? Entry £1, win your entry fee back if you win!). Or, just try bowling (barefoot) for a few ‘ends’. You may find you’re a natural and join us next season! All proceeds will be shared between the club and carnival. All ages welcome.

Home matches at Cromer Marrams green on the Runton Road in the next few weeks are Sproughton BC (friendly) Saturday 10th August 2.00pm, Weybourne BC (friendly) Sunday 11th August 2.00pm, Aylsham BC (NANSA) Thursday 15th August 2.00pm, Carnival Day roll-up Wednesday 21st August 10.00am, Suffield Park BC (Carnival Challenge) Thursday 22nd August 1.30pm and West Runton BC (friendly) Sunday 25th August 2.00pm. Why not come along to spectate, take in the sea air and use our facilities?

Members are very welcome. Come along to try us out before deciding, whether a veteran or new bowler. Subscriptions for the rest of the season are just £30 for roll-ups and friendly games. Social members are also very welcome to enjoy our clubhouse facilities (open all year) for an annual fee of £15.

Details of fixtures, results, history, honours, and club news/photos can be accessed at cromermarramsbowlsclub.com or more details from Edna 01263 511155.
