Firework Fears!
We all know how stressful the firework season can be for our pets so here at Toll Barn Vets we have a few helpful tips to help keep pets as calm as possible. Animals have very sensitive hearing and loud bangs can be painful whilst the flashing lights can be scary. Always keep dogs and cats indoors during fireworks and make sure dogs are walked earlier in the day to avoid being out when fireworks are let off. Many pets go missing at this time of year when they get scared by fireworks so make sure all pets are easily identified with a collar and tag or microchip (with up to date contact details) so that they can be reunited with you if they get scared and manage to run off. It can help to build your pet a safe den and keep windows, doors and curtains closed to minimise noise as much as possible. Some pets will find it comforting to have an alternative noise so keeping the radio or television on can help to reduce awareness of the sound of fireworks. Pets will often look to you for reassurance during stressful situations so try to act as normally as possible and make sure not to tell pets off if they are behaving in a stressed manner during fireworks. It is also important to reward calm and relaxed behaviour with cuddles and treats! There are also several medicines and techniques which can be used to reduce anxiety around firework season. Pheromone-based and natural calming products come in several varieties including plug-in diffusers, tablets, liquids, collars and sprays. These products can help pets feel more relaxed and calm within the environment and should ideally be started at least 48 hours (preferably longer) before fireworks are due to start. Noise phobia CDs are also available and are designed to gradually reduce sensitivity to loud sounds over a long period of time in the run up to Firework Night.
It’s also important to remember small mammals such as rabbits and guinea pigs as well as birds during this stressful season. These pets can also get easily scared and if possible these pets should be moved into a quiet room or shed. If this is not possible cages should be covered to reduce the sound of the fireworks and turned to face a wall so the firework lights are less visible. It is essential to ensure enough ventilation still remains underneath the cover. Make sure pets have enough bedding to burrow and hide in should they feel stressed.
As November creeps up its time to start thinking about Firework season and what we can do to help our pets. We offer FREE OF CHARGE firework advice for our clients as well as stocking a variety of calming products. Pop in or call us on 01692 407126 for advice from our friendly team.

A hedgehog needs to weigh a minimum of 650grams to survive hibernation, so these small hogs do not have time before winter sets in to build up enough body fat. Those coming in now will be kept warm and fed and released in early spring.
REPAIRS, SERVICE & DIAGNOSTIC Please keep a look out for these small hogs - if you find one place it in a for high sided box with at Main Dealer level some kind of bedding to keep it warm and then Vauxhall contact a carer for help. Speed is essential to givePeugeot them a chance of surviving. Find us on facebook at Hedgehog Haven. Cromer Times 529 November 4th 2017
Friends of Cromer Museum The Friends were pleased to welcome back at their October meeting Frank Meeres, formerly of the Norfolk Record Office. His talk, “Ordinary Women, Extraordinary Lives”, is the title of his most recent book on the lives of women with strong Norfolk connections. Many were connected with the Suffragette movement while others made a name for themselves in the two World Wars. Miriam Pratt was brought up in Norwich and was imprisoned for three years for setting fire to two empty buildings in Cambridge in 1913 to draw attention to the use of the ‘Cat and Mouse Act’ as a way of dealing with suffragettes who had gone on hunger strike. This may have embarrassed her uncle, George Ward, who had brought her up and was a policeman in Norwich! Violet Aitken was the daughter of a canon at Norwich Cathedral and was imprisoned for smashing shop windows in Regent’s Street in London. She was forcibly fed when she want on hunger strike. This seems to have had no ill effects on her health as she lived to be 101. Grace Marcon, also the daughter of a Norfolk clergyman, slashed paintings in the National Gallery and when in prison, refused not only food but also water. This had such an effect on her health that she was released.
Most famously, perhaps, is the case of Emily Davison who was killed as a result of stepping in front of the horses in the Derby of 1913. Emily had worked as a governess at the Red House, now Halsey House.
Ethel Williams was born in Cromer in 1866. She trained as a doctor in Vienna and was a leading figure in the Women’s Peace Crusade, an anti-war movement. Lady Suffield was keen to support the war effort and later became the first woman to be elected to Norfolk County Council. The Second World War brought more Norfolk women to national attention. Connie and Joyce Haldinstein were educated at Norwich High School. Both married into the Dutch Jewish community and were caught up in the German invasion of Holland in 1940. Connie ended up in Sobibor concentration camp where she was killed - as far as we know the only Norfolk concentration camp victim. Joyce wrote heavily coded letters describing life in occupied Holland and was eventually able to escape to Switzerland. She returned to Holland after the war.
Elsie Marechal was brought up in Great Yarmouth, married a Belgian and was also caught up in the struggle against German occupation. She, along with others, helped Allied soldiers escape and she ended up in Mauthausen concentration camp. Fortunately she survived and was able to visit family in Norfolk many times before she died in Brussels in 1969.
Elsie Tilney was the daughter of a Norwich shopkeeper. She became a Christian missionary in Morocco in the 1930s. She volunteered to go to Vienna in 1939 to help Jewish men who had fled from the Nazis. She was interned from 1940 until 1944 and was eventually freed by American soldiers.
As you can see women with Norfolk connections have, in their own ways, shown bravery and determination in pursuit of causes for which they were prepared to make considerable sacrifices, in some cases the ultimate sacrifice. The next talk in our autumn/winter series is on Friday 17 November at 7.30pm in the Community Hall in Cromer. Tim Bennett’s topic is ‘Overstrand in the Great War’. Visitors are always welcome. Cost £3.
WHY CHOOSE WHY CHOOSE SILVER & WARD WARD SILVER SOLICITORS SOLICITORS in in 2017? 20 17 ?
“It’s a recurrent misconception that a larger firm is better.”
I am Clare Mayell and I own Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor. I appreciate that any time of the year can be a difficult time for many people to resolve legal issues of worry and concern, for example, making a will or Lasting Power of Attorney. As I have worked for 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norfolk or Norwich and I provide 22 years of expertise and exceptional service. I pride myself in being one of the only solicitors who offffers a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, so clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an informed decision. At a larger firm you just pay more. When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. I advise new clients to “shop around” as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can offer the same expertise, if not better. I have and can act for clients across Norrffolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs.
“I would say to any potential client with a legal issue or worry in 2017 to come and meet me face to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain.
Home visits can be arranged or appointments outside of office hours including Saturdays. 0 1263 8 23465 or email clare@silverandward.co.uk 01263 823465

Big Boost to Ellie 4 Africa’s Fundraising Appeal Overstrand Together Raising Funds for our Village
Ellie Glasgow (aged 15) has been working hard over the summer to raise the £4,641 costs of going on a charity expedition to Kenya to work as a volunteer with fellow Sheringham High School students in 2018.
A successful JustGiving campaign, her pop-up café, a couple of car boots and a sponsored abseil (undertaken by her Great Auntie Margaret for her 70th birthday!) have brought the total raised so far to £3,381.
Brian Lewis ‘Fish no chips’
“Everyone has been so generous and, with their help and support, I’m almost three-quarters of the way there. I’m determined to reach my target and hope that my next two events in November will edge me that little bit closer. Anyone can come to either or both! It would be great to have good turn-outs, especially as so many people are donating their time, expertise, raffle prizes, refreshments and artworks to help me achieve my goal.”
Ellie extends an open invitation, to anyone interested in contemporary art or looking for a special Christmas gift, to please go along to her Art Auction on Sunday 19 November, 6pm at The Belfry Centre, Overstrand; where they can bid for the 35 donated artworks - prints, original paintings and 3D pieces - by some of Norfolk’s finest artists.
The evening offers the opportunity to meet and mingle with many of these artists. There will be wine and soft drinks for sale and complimentary nibbles and sweet treats prepared by Ellie, her mum and her grandmother.
“I want this to be a relaxed event so it will be a silent auction where people write their bids on a piece of paper. Only the winning bid is announced and this way, people can bid whatever they can afford without feeling uncomfortable! If you can’t make it on the night, you can also submit online bids at CoastArts.co.uk who are kindly sponsoring my campaign.”
The following weekend, on Friday 24 November, 7pm in Cromer Community Centre, Ellie is organising a Chicago Dance Evening with Tina Allison, Overstrand’s best-kept secret, and its very own Jazz Dance Aficionado, who teaches dance in a fun and accessible way.
“I can’t wait for the Chicago night. I hope that people of all ages will come along, dressed up (as sparkly and glitzy as possible) to learn a dance routine from the ‘Chicago’ film. The ticket price includes a complimentary cocktail (mocktail for under 18s) and, with Tina as the host, fun and lots of laughter is guaranteed!”
Please book your tickets £8 adult/£4 under 18 in advance at CoastArts.co.uk. Cromer Times 529 November 4th 2017

treason. She has faced 60 days of near solitary confinement, interrogation and now a trial. Surely the Germans will not execute a woman? Yet, Edith Cavell is facing another trial, alone in her cell. Sixty days alone with the only person who knows who Edith Cavell really is – herself. Edith Cavell is facing the silence.
Set in Edith’s prison cell in the St Gilles prison in Brussels, John Mangan’s new play explores the life and trial of this trailblazing woman. “I have long admired Nurse Cavell’s actions and bravery,” said actor Judi Daykin “Many people have heard of Edith, but not so many realise just what a risk she took in her resistance work or how she protected allied soldiers and her trainee nurses. John’s play brings out the human cost of duty and sacrifice, not to mention Edith’s strong character and sense of humour, along with her life story. It’s a fabulous piece of writing.”
“Audience reactions have been extremely positive, we have even had standing ovations,” added Director Rhett Davies. “It’s a very moving and entertaining piece of work.”

Hair is something we endure It grows no matter what, And then we have to waste our time Having cut off what we've got. It grows in most unusual shapes Some straight, some bent, some curly, Women straighten out the curls Men don't – it makes them girly. Why do men have facial hair It needs shaving every day, Razor blades and shaving foam What a price we have to pay. Some men grow a little 'tash Underneath their nose, It tickles and can strain thick soup That's how the thinking goes. Of course, my hair has long since gone It is a source of sorrow, Maybe it’s what is meant by saying 'Hair today- and gone tomorrow' Paul Scrivener

Voluntary Norfolk
As the weather gets colder and the nights darker, many Norfolk residents run the risk of loneliness and isolation, especially if they suffer from a long-term health condition that prevents them getting out and meeting other people. ‘Voluntary Norfolk’ is keen to hear from people who would be able to give some

time to make a positive difference to the lives of others.
Voluntary Norfolk’s North Norfolk Health Volunteers scheme, run in partnership with North Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), are looking for volunteers to visit people in their own homes, If you could give an hour or so, regularly or even occasionally, to change someone’s life for the better, through sharing your time, experience, good humour and mutual interest, in your village, town or the surrounding area, then please get in touch with us! The most popular activity is a simple coffee and chat, but, depending on what you wanted to offer, some people might like a short walk, a game or craft activity, a quick hand with something in the house or garden or even a short trip out in the car. You could visit someone by yourself, or, if you would rather, you are welcome to enrol with a friend and do your visits together.
‘Volunteers do not replace the care of NHS or Social Services staff, nor the support of family members, ‘says Natalie Hickman one of the volunteer co-ordinators for the scheme, ‘but they bring something very special. They choose to give their time and talents, and that
is deeply appreciated by those they visit’.
Potential volunteers firstly meet with Voluntary Norfolk co-ordinators to discuss their interests, and, following a DBS check, completion of the application and induction process, are then carefully matched with a suitable person to visit. Training and support is available, but volunteers are not expected to deliver any personal or medical care nor incur any costs. Visiting arrangements can formally last up to 18 months, but many long-term friendships have developed as a result.
Why not get ready and make a start towards doing something different for 2018.
If you could help, or you would like to know more, please call 01263 519454 for North Norfolk service or 0755 170 4246 for South Norfolk service. Alternatively, you can email chloe.edwards@voluntarynorfolk.org.uk or drop in for a chat with recruitment assistant Chloe, at the office in Merchants’ Place, 16 Church Street, Cromer on Tuesdays or at St Clements House, 2-16 Colegate, Norwich, NR3 1BQ on Wednesdays or Fridays. You can register your interest via their website too.

North Norfolk’s Cromer Pier – the show goes on! Pier Management Contract Awarded to Openwide
A new 10 year management contract to run Cromer Pier, one of the nation’s most iconic seaside structures, has been awarded by Pier owners, North Norfolk District Council, to Openwide. The celebrated and award winning Grade II Listed Pier which has been described as ‘fabulously English’ has become a national treasure and a ‘gem of the Norfolk coast’ since it was built in 1901. Playing host to the world’s only remaining full season End of the Pier Show, the 495ft long pier has claimed its fair share of awards through the years, kick-started many entertainment careers and provided a stunning backdrop to numerous films and productions. The new contract will start on 1 February 2018 and run for a minimum of 10 years – covering the 120th anniversary of the Pier in 2021. Steve Cutbush, Openwide Managing Director, said “We are naturally delighted with the outcome after a very robust procurement process. Openwide will continue to put Cromer Show at the heart of the Pier’s offer and evolve and preserve this historical aspect of Britain’s seaside tradition, further building on the national heritage attraction it has now become. “We are delighted that North Norfolk District Council has given us the chance to develop and grow the Pier in partnership with them into the future. We have therefore proposed a number of early enhancements to the Pier and its operations to enhance the commercial opportunities and reach a sustainable position without future subsidy. “North Norfolk District Council already has a capital investment plan for the theatre and Pier. All of these enhancements will add to the Pier experience and enable it to evolve into the future as a national treasure and operate without further subsidy.” North Norfolk District Council is proud to be the custodian of this national treasure and has protected and enhanced this iconic asset. In 2015 the Pier underwent a £2m refurbishment and later in 2016 it benefited from a £8 million pound coastal defence scheme. Further major works costing £500,000 are planned by North Norfolk District Council on the Pier.

The Strand Club
Our committee decorated the Pavilion in Halloween livery for our October meeting complete with beautiful table decorations made by Jackie, which will be raffled later. The room looked a picture and with the committee dressed in black and wearing cat's ears, we all took the occasion to heart! We were delighted to welcome our own Miriam and Tony Ireland to entertain us. They presented us with a musical quiz, which took the form of working our brains hard to recognise anything from the theme from ‘Z Cars’ to show songs. Miriam's beautiful, soaring voice took us back to our favourites from years ago and we were asked to, not only name the musical, but also the lead stars. Often difficult but enormous fun. Tony's keyboard playing gave us all sorts of puzzling but very recognisable pieces of music - is that from ‘All Creatures Great and Small’ or ‘Match of the Day’? One of our clever members usually had the right answer. Tony gave us all sorts of interesting snippets too - did we know, for instance that Annette Mills who talked to Muffin the Mule in our childhood, was actually John Mills' sister? It was all wonderful - relaxing, challenging and very pleasant in equal measure. We then enjoyed a lovely cream tea with scones supplied by Dudleys in Cromer which were excellent, though enormous. This ensured that many happy members took some home to enjoy again later on! Josie's homemade jam was very tasty and, together with the clotted cream, made a very pleasing tea. Two new members joined our happy throng - Joan and June - we wish you fun and interest in the months ahead, along with good fellowship. You are most welcome. Should anyone else out there like to visit us and give us a try, please do come along to our next meeting in the Sports Pavilion which will be held on 8 November. Eddie Anderson will join us to talk about his task in reclaiming the River Mun on his land at Templewood and the wildlife which now lives there. Our usual start time of 2pm applies, with an entry fee of just £2 for non-members to cover light refreshments. Raffle tickets will be available separately. For further information please contact Chairman, Jackie Hudson on 01263 720866 or Secretary, Chris Wood on 01263 579433.

Facial Rejuvenation Experts - Coltishall Cosmetic Clinic
There is no shortage of practitioners from a variety of backgrounds offering Dermal fillers and Botox injections. The trouble is that a majority of these practitioners do not understand how the face ages and/ or have a limited number of treatments to offer. Any specialist mechanic needs a properly resourced toolbox not just one or two tools. Same thing with facial rejuvenation. If your practitioner only has one or two tools, that is all they can offer you, whether or not it is best for you.
Someone with 30 years experience in general practice or nursing maybe an expert in asthma management or vaccination but it does not make them an expert in facial rejuvenation- although they may make such claims. So do check that your practitioner has experience in procedures they are offering you.
Concepts of beauty also change over time. So we need a balanced approach rather than too much of the wrong thing!
Let me give you some examples. In the 1970s when we did not have the modern treatments and technology all we had was facelift surgeries. Surgeons devised extensive invasive techniques in order to produce the tightest and longest lasting results that they could. We all know the consequences, the results were too tight 'Wind Tunnel' look faces but they were not necessarily young or pleasing to look at.
Now such surgeries have fallen out of favour and we are in an era of over filling. What I call 'pillow faces'. Sadly it is not only the patients, but I see practitioners with such appearances. Looking filled has almost become the norm!
When Botox first came out it was the norm to see frozen expressionless faces. Patients themselves are now moving away from too much Botox and requesting less of the stuff so they still have moment but look softer and well rested.
So what is our approach of facial rejuvenation at the Coltishall Clinic? Our approach is to produce natural looking, pleasing and harmonious results. We recommend that you bring your old photo that you like to your consultation. We can see how your face has changed and try and reverse these changes.
What happens with facial ageing and how we can help?
1. Loss of skin quality, sun exposure and smoking related changes. Solution- skincare and skin rejuvenation treatments. You need a machine or laser that is suitable for your unique concerns. We are one of the very few clinics in the country who have invested in the full range of specialised dermatological lasers. Some practitioners claim their laser can do everything but that simply is not true. Often a combinations of

CROMER AND DISTRICT GARDEN SOCIETY
At our October meeting, we were pleased to welcome Lynn Shannon from Norfolk Lavender, who spoke to us on the history of and recent developments at this well-known Norfolk attraction.
Until 1919, Caley Mill was used to produce
flour but the Chilvers family introduced 20,000 lavender plants to a six acre field in North West Norfolk and the rest, as they say, is now part of the county’s history.
Until recently, a 50 acre field has been rented from the Royal Estate at Sandringham on which to grow the lavender but this is no longer the case. Since 2015, a 45 acre field at Heacham has been the main focus of production. Harvesting of the lavender takes place in July and August and, over the harvest period, over 250 distillations take place, each one lasting a mere 45 minutes.
In the early years, Ivy and Daisy Chilvers filled small bottles with the lavender oil and sold it at the roadside in Heacham but today the range of lavender based products is much greater.
Lavender is used as an antiseptic, can treat minor burns and insect bites and stings and is
an effective insect repellent. Its use as pot pourri and in perfumes is widespread. It can be used when cooking lamb, can be added to scones and cakes to improve their flavour and is even made into a liqueur. Those who tried some of the liqueur at the meeting commented on its distinctive flavour.
Lavender likes poor soils, should be sparingly fed and watered if at all and at the end of the flowering season in July or August should be cut down to new shoots which should have been produced. On no account should you cut into dead wood as it will not re-grow. French varieties have a distinctive butterfly shaped flower but are not always hardy. English varieties are a better bet for Norfolk gardens and a new variety called ‘Imperial Gem’ has the deepest purple colour of all.
Our meeting on the 8 November begins at 7.30pm with the AGM and will be followed by a talk by Mike Weatherstone on how the history of Norfolk is reflected in its village signs. Sounds like an interesting evening.
CROMER FLOWER CLUB
Jenni Baker, our demonstrator for October, gave us her interpretation of the Feminine Touch. She chose six of her favourite English ladies - Clarice Cliff, Vita Sackville West, Mary Quant, Beatrix Potter, Barbara Hepworth and Julia Clements.
Clarice, the ceramic artist was represented in orange roses, red gerberas and spray carnations, with a background of copies of her 1930s plates.
XQ59559K001 05-Sep-2017 2:40
Vita Sackville West, poet, novelist and garden designer was honoured with an arrangement based on the white garden at Sissinghurst Castle, with lovely avalanche roses and anastacia chrysanthemums. She went all modern as you might expect with Mary Quant, red and black sisal screens, red carnations and cotinus.
For Beatrix Potter she made a charming hedgerow arrangement of dried cow parsley, tree ivy, rose hips, pink antirrhinums and cream lisianthus,. Peter Rabbit would have loved it.
The artist Barbara Hepworth had a design in a very tall pot of aspidistra leaves, chrysanthemums and white roses.
Lastly Julia Clements, the famous flower arranger, as befits her standing, was represented by a beautiful arrangement in pink roses and gerberas in a metal pot, lined with pink voile.
The vote of thanks was given by Ruth Brown who has just celebrated two milestone anniversaries, one involving a card from The Queen. Best in show in our monthly competition was won by Liz Crane with a clever arrangement of three stacked pumpkins with ivy, berries, autumn foliage, accompanied by a bunch of fungi.
The next meeting is at 7.20pm on 20 November in the Primary School when Jo Poulten will demonstrate on ‘Picture This’. Don’t forget your Christmas wrapped chocolates for Halsey House.

CROMER IN BLOOM
Cromer in Bloom have had a very busy summer, maintaining all the gardens around the town. We visited Edgefield Garden Centre early in May, where owner Gary kindly helped us to select bedding plants and shrubs suitable for dry, sandy soil. These were planted out over a couple of weeks, but needed copious watering as May and June were so dry. Thank you very much to the shops, businesses, parish hall and museum for helping to water the tubs and planters for us. They have certainly looked very colourful. Some of the beds have even looked almost tropical!
has looked at its best this year. Everyone is welcome to go through the gate and enjoy the peace and quiet and enjoy the colourful planting scheme.
We bought a pallet load of North Norfolk compost from the Green Build exhibition and will spend the autumn enriching the poor soil and planting in the island beds opposite the Tourist Information Centre. This is our autumn project so look out for us in our hi-vis jackets, which we usually wear to alert all the traffic that speeds past on all sides!
We have spent several weeks recently working hard to tackle the Henry Blogg garden, which had been rather neglected. It is on the seaward side of the Town Council offices and is a lovely, sheltered garden with views of the sea. It is a very under-used space which is a shame as it

Dear Margaret,
Living in the Suffield Park area, parking is now starting to get extremely busy and it's very hard at times to park outside your house, and especially difficult at times when you are unloading your shopping and have no choice but to park quite a distance up the road. It's very annoying when some people do have driveways and then park outside others who do not have the luxury of having a driveway - is it me or is it quite selfish? Living in a community, surely being respectful of those who can't park their car would be nice, to let them have parking spaces outside their homes? Name & Address supplied

Young actress Hana Stewart is ready to start her panto journey – not just to the Land of Oz but to Sheringham, which is her “happy place”. For the 22 year old, who is playing Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, has holidayed a lot in the town, where family friends Chris and Dave Parmenter live.
They are supporters of, and volunteers at, the Little Theatre and mentioned Hana’s recent graduation from drama school to theatre director Debbie Thompson, who auditioned the young singer and actress for the lead panto part.

Debbie said “She looks just like Dorothy and she is a superb performer so she is just perfect for the role.”
Hana, from Essex, inherited her love of drama from mum Nadia who was involved with local ‘am dram’ groups as a serious actress.

“As a child I used to help her with her lines – and the family released I had a knack of learning scripts”.
Hana went on to play Maid Marion in a Year Six school show, which also helped her gain confidence after suffering bullying, she explained.
Shane, who went to drama school with panto director Nick Earnshaw, switches between panto and serious acting in Shakespeare, Chekov and Ibsen – but says he loves the variety of doing both.

CROMER TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB – BINGO
After initial promising support to restart bingo on Tuesday evenings at their Cabbell Park Clubhouse, which it was hoped would become a regular source of raising much-needed funds for the club regrettably, due to a lack of attendance it has been decided to discontinue the bingo during the winter months of 2017.
However, it is hoped that it can be resumed early spring and throughout the summer months of 2018.

Business as usual?
Miranda Marshall, Director, Hayes + Storr
Many people assume that if they became incapable of running their business, it would still be ‘business as usual’ and that others would simply step into their shoes and carry on. This is not so. For many small businesses or sole traders, it could be the end of the business.
Whether you are a business owner, director, partner or sole trader, safeguarding the future of your business with a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) makes good business-sense. As a business owner, it is important to consider what might happen to your business if you were incapacitated by illness or injury. Who would take over the running of the business? What would it mean for your employees’ financial future?
business, the disruption could be catastrophic. It might not take long for the impact to be felt.
A business or commercial LPA tackles this; however, they are more complicated than an ordinary LPA. For example, it might be necessary to alter the company’s Articles of Association or amend the partnership agreement. They are different to ordinary LPAs that deal with your personal and financial affairs and represent a vital element in your business continuity planning.
Many partnerships and companies, under the Mental Health Discrimination Act 2012, cannot remove a director/partner if they lose mental capacity.
You will need to identify one or more suitable attorneys. They should be known to you, Unless you have appointed an attorney, trustworthy and capable of doing the job, essential business operations may not be ideally familiar with the business. You will possible. Access to your bank accounts may need to talk it through with them so they know be denied, suppliers won’t get paid, contracts the role that they are taking on. They may could be lost, insurance premiums won’t be need to take out their own Personal Liability renewed and salaries could go unpaid. Without insurance to make sure that they are protected an attorney appointed to take care of the when acting as an attorney. The attorney will effectively become a director with all the responsibility In the quite near future Cromer Town Football Club will be losing that follows. Go for gold, Olympian tells young hockey players
Young hockey players from a Cromer school have been coached by one of the British Olympic team’s star players.
Helen Richardson-Walsh, who won gold with Team GB at the Rio 2016 Olympics, shared her tips for sporting success with over 100 students at an inter-school hockey tournament held at The Hewett Academy, Norwich, on Wednesday 18 October.
The students from Cromer Academy, The Hewett Academy, Jane Austen College, and Notre Dame High School in Norwich, Wayland Academy in Watton and East Point Academy in Lowestoft enjoyed team pep talks from Helen to improve their skills before facing each other on the school’s astro pitches.
The tournament was umpired by young hockey leaders, students who gained official accreditation in the England Hockey Leadership Award scheme run at The Hewett Academy in the summer.
Helen spoke to the students about her hockey journey, which started when she joined her school hockey club in Nottingham, and how dedication and commitment helped her to reach her goals.
She told students “We can’t all be good at everything, but we’re all good at something. You have to work out what it is that you’re good at, and follow it to the best of your ability.” Helen made her international debut in 1999 at the age of 17, and in 2000 became the youngest
female hockey player to represent Great Britain at the Olympics. She faced a huge challenge when she suffered a major back injury after the London 2012 Games, but fought her way back to fitness and went on to score the winning penalty in the women’s hockey final at Rio.
She said her team’s medal victory was “an amazing moment – we’d set our sights on a goal and achieved it as a team, which made it very special.”

principal at The Hewett Academy, said “It was a huge privilege to welcome such a distinguished guest to our school, and to see so many students from across the region making the most of our fantastic facilities. The students found training with Helen really inspiring, and have picked up lots of pro tips to improve their game.”
Helen was visiting the schools tournament on behalf of England Hockey, the sport’s national governing body, which hopes to build on the British team’s success by encouraging more young people to play regularly and join their local clubs. She said “Hockey has something for everyone – people of any age, and all shapes and sizes, can enjoy playing it. It helps to build Do you need some help in your garden? physical skills and We offer a professional, experienced and friendly service tactical thinking, as for maintenance, improvement or clearing for your well as teamwork, communication, and garden no matter how large or small. leadership. Our speaker this month was Kate Barnes who spoke of her and her husband’s visits to Egypt. Along with some beautiful slides she told us of their last trip which was on a boat going up the Nile. Agatha Christie immediately came into the minds of some members. The trip started in Cairo and went to the Temples of Karnak and Luxor also passing through the West Bank, The Valley of the Kings, Aswan, Lake Naser and Abu Simbel.
She touched on some of the history of Howard Carter and Tutankhamun and the other places that they stopped at. We all knew a lot more about Egypt at the end of the talk.
When we continued the meeting after tea, tickets were given out for the theatre visit to see Top Hat in January and plans were made to go and see the Faberge

Collection at the UEA. We also plan to have a dress show next year with the Edinburgh Woollen Mill. After a vote, it was decided our charity for the year will be Friends of Cromer Hospital. Christmas plans were also discussed - far too early some said! The competition was won by Freddie Abbs, with Liz Holhouse second and Brenda Boyd third. Our meeting in November is also our Annual Meeting and there will not be a speaker. Some committee members will change and we hope to see some new members joining. New members are always welcome on the second Thursday of the month at 2pm in the Community Hall in Garden Street.

Northern Soul DJs play Cromer
Cromer Community Centre will be hosting its second Northern Soul night, Keep the Faith, on Saturday 25 November, with Holt Vinyl Vault DJs, Trevor Halfnelson and Hitman Hawkins.
This charity event is organised by a small group of local music enthusiasts, Cromer Social Services, who just like dancing, having a good night out, as well as raising money for good causes.
This time profit goes to the charity Young Minds – supporting youth mental health.
You may have heard of Motown, disco, funk and soul, but for those of you who don’t know, Northern Soul was extremely popular in the 1970s, particularly in cities north of the Midlands (hence the name), where clubs such as the Blackpool Mecca and Wigan Casino would see thousands of visitors dancing and swapping rare soul import records from the USA, every weekend.
LOCAL CHOIR AND ORCHESTRA COMBINE FOR FANTASTIC CONCERT
There will be a rare opportunity to hear Felix Mendelssohn’s splendid Symphony No 2 Hymn of Praise (Lobgesang) performed in English when Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society joins forces with North Norfolk Sinfonia in St Peter’s Church Sheringham on Saturday 25 November at 7.30pm.
Directed by David Ballard, the choir and orchestra will be joined by the expressive and versatile Norfolk coloratura soprano Lisa Cassidy, together with Norwich based tenor William Falconer and mezzo-soprano Charli Andrews. Also on the programme are works by Mozart and Haydn.

Even today, the energy of Northern Soul continues with many DJs still keen collectors of these rare records.
DJ Trevor Halfnelson says ‘Those who were lucky enough to be around in the 70s have generally stayed loyal to the scene, many retaining their original vinyl collections. With the help of a vinyl resurrection, Northern Soul is attracting a new generation of followers to join the ranks, some as far away as Japan. Original 45s change hands for large sums of money, one track by Frank Wilson - Do I Love You (indeed I do ) - sold for £25,000 a few years ago.
Thankfully a more modest budget can still find a gem in a car boot sale, or a re-issue, if all else fails.’

Consistent Guppy is too strong for Oliver as he takes title for the first time
No 1 seed Martin Guppy is Cromer Squash Club’s new champion. In the final last month he became the 18th different player to hold the prestigious title since it was instigated in 1981, as he overcame the youthful challenge of Alex Oliver who, like Guppy, was playing in his first final, 9-2 9-2 10-9.
Guppy has recently rejoined the club after a long spell away from the area and he also has dual membership with the North Walsham club where he currently plays Norfolk Premier League Squash. Currently ranked at No.38 in the county, Guppy is 31 places higher than Oliver who, four years ago, was also runner-up in the club’s annual tennis tournament, and this was apparent in the first two games. The match was played under the conventional scoring system and Guppy won the first four points of the match to open up a 4-0 lead from which he never looked back. The serve did change hands half a dozen times during which time Oliver picked up a couple of points but Guppy won seven of the last eight hands to take the game 9-2.
Oliver started well in the second game as he broke serve and led 2-0, but then it was one way traffic as Guppy won eleven of the next twelve hands to again take the game 9-2 and open up

what looked like an unassailable 2-0 lead.
To Oliver’s credit, however, he battled back well. His unforced error count reduced and the players traded point for point as the serve changed hands numerous times. At 8-7 he served for the game and served three more times as he led 9-8 but, on each occasion, Guppy won the point before going on to take the game, which featured 50 hands of squash, 10-9, and the match 3-0.
champion, John Baker 4-9 9-6 8-10 9-4 9-3 in another closely contested match while Guppy had an easier passage against the surprise semifinalist Eamonn North. This month attention will switch to the Club’s annual Over 35 tournament, for which Guppy will again start as a warm favourite.
Cromer’s Technical Director, Barry Starling, who was among the large crowd which watched the final from the balcony, said afterwards “This was a terrific match and it was much closer than the 3-0 scoreline suggests. Both players showed tremendous skill and athleticism and the key factor was probably Martin’s consistency and his greater use of the angles of the court. Alex made a lot of unforced errors as he went for winners and in the first two games he seemed to forget one of my basic pieces of advice which is “never go for a winner off your opponent’s serve”. He had his chances in the third game and if he had been able to nick this, the result could well have been different.” In the semi-finals Oliver had to come from 2-1 down to beat the four times former club
