Georgette Vale, acting as Harriet Martineau, entertained and informed us about her life in the early 1800s. Georgette was completely in character the entire time she was wearing Harriet's costume and seemed to become the little deaf lady from Norwich with the big ideas. She was ahead of her time in her beliefs. Through her job in journalism she tried to make a difference. She was against slavery and for women's suffrage. By writing her views almost as short stories, they were understood by everyone who read them. She thought that less authoritarianism and more rationalism in education would improve children's ability to learn. She was very ahead of her time and although well known in her lifetime has become lost in the mists of history.

Mackay who transported us to warmer climes, as she aldismotors@gmail.com gaveSTONEHILL us a captivatingWAY, glimpse intoROAD, her timeCROMER spent in South Africa. HOLT NR27 9JW Emigrating to accompany her husband who had postings in Cape Town and later Durban, she entertained us with her varied experiences, some good – cases of very good wine at unbelievably cheap prices and others less enviable - snakes and enormous hailstones which necessitated windows being protected with wire mesh.
Sheringham - only During her 12 year stay she commented on the many changes she had seen in that supposedly idyllic country and has decided not to email changed return as she preferred to remember it as it was. Members saw photos of the green hearts for the `Show the Love` (for the planet) campaign and heard how a small group had got together and painted the hearts with sentiments such as `Love our World`, `Respect` and `Think`. They joined other Green Hearts hanging in the railings of St Peter Mancroft Church in Norwich. Next month we look forward to hearing from Leonie Barnett, sister of Joe Orton, the well-known playwright.
We welcome visitors and prospective new members (you don’t have to be an Overstrand resident to join us) to our walks and monthly meetings. Our meetings are on the third Wednesday of the month. at 7.30pm in the Parish Hall, Overstrand.

Victory 'V' Plantation, Felbrigg
Leslie Nockels' paintings are usually to be seen during her Open Studios fortnight at the end of May/beginning of June, but this year her ‘Victory 'V' Plantation, Felbrigg’ has been chosen by the East Anglian Art Fund to be part of Norwich Castle's Inheritance Open Art Show taking place between 3 March and 20 May.
In 2017, a call for entries went out to artists living in East Anglia, attracting a recordbreaking number of submissions (895, out of which 116 were chosen.). The works range from land and seascapes to abstract interpretations of the past. Loving portraits sit alongside depictions of ancient pathways, churches and military installations. The theme of inheritance was chosen to complement the Castle's current exhibition ‘The Square Box on the Hill’ which focuses on the extraordinary 900-year history of Norwich Castle.
The exhibition was selected by a panel of
CROMER FLOWER CLUB
invited judges - Penelope Hughes-Stanton, Director of North House Gallery, Manningtree, Sandy Heslop, Professor of Visual Arts, University of East Anglia and Lloyd De Beer, The Ferguson Curator of Medieval Europe, The British Museum.
Leslie says “It was a very foggy autumn day, the sun triumphantly breaking through the mists, promising hope, almost symbolising the theme of victory over adversity. The Victory 'V' Plantation was planted to celebrate the allied victory after Second World War in memory of the owner's brother.
In the foreground, the apex of the 'V', though on top of a rise, is very boggy, a few sun lit acid green grass spikes escaping the dark chocolate leaf mould. The sun, bursting through the mists, casts shadows of the beech trees over to reach us, to rescue, guide and reassure.
Last month’s meeting was a flower arranging workshop.
First of all our chairlady Hazel demonstrated a herb garden arrangement prettily laid out in four quarters and edged with box, each quarter containing different herbs, including bay rosemary and feverfew and accompanied by primroses. The whole was finished with some lovely yellow roses.
Committee member Christine then showed us how to make paper carnations using 2 ply serviettes and pinking shears, not as easy as
Inheritance is the 5th Norwich Castle Open Art Show supported by the East Anglia Art Fund (EAAF). The EAAF is a membership charity dedicated to enabling the very best in visual arts exhibitions and education work in Norfolk and Suffolk. In addition, the exhibition sponsors are awarding prizes, with Brown & Co giving a ÂŁ1000 prize for excellence, and Gallery in the Lanes presenting a ÂŁ500 prize to an emerging talent.
it sounds and full marks to Christine who makes hundreds of the things for various events!
Everyone then made a green arrangement which was much enjoyed with plenty of variety in the results. Congratulations to Gill Tullie who won the member’s vote for the best arrangement.
The vote of thanks was given by Ann Daniels.
Our next meeting is at 7.20pm at the Cromer Primary School on 19 March when Melissa Sheldrake will be demonstrating ‘Flights of Fancy’. The competition is an arrangement in a cage so get your imaginations working!
WHY CHOOSE SILVER SIL VER & WARD WARD SOLICIT ORS in 201 ? 201 ? SOLICITORS
“It’s a recurrent misconception that a larger firm is better.
I am Clare Mayell and I own Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor. I appreciate that any time of the year can be a difficult difficult time for many people to resolve legal issues of worry and concern, for example, making a will or Lasting Power of Attorney. As I have worked for 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norfolk or Norwich and I provide 22 years of expertise and exceptional service. I pride myself in being one of the only solicitors who offers offers a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT APPOINTMENT,, so clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an informed decision. At a larger firm you just pay more. When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. I advise new clients to “shop around as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can offer offer the same expertise, if not better. I have and can act for clients across Norfolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs.
“I would say to any potential client with a legal issue or worry in 201 to come and meet me face to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain.
Home visits can be arranged or appointments outside of office hours including Saturdays. 01263 823465 or email clare@silverandward.co.uk

Life is for living with the support of My Guide end with a coffee and cake! Lisa also meets Karen in Norwich for a coffee, which is also adding to her increasing confidence.
Has your sight loss affected your health and wellbeing and stopped you from doing the things you used to do?
The charity Guide Dogs provides more than just a dog. My Guide is a service that can provide you with a volunteer to help increase your confidence, fitness and enable you to get out and about in your community. This could be a trip to the local cafĂŠ, joining a new social group or walking around your local area to increase your confidence.
Lisa has also started to learn how to use the long cane, which has started to open her world. Lisa says “since I have been cane training my confidence has soared. It’s lovely to have my independence back and get out there again.
“I am so thankful for Guide Dogs and My Guide for their support in helping me to independence again.
Kerry Matthews, My Guide Ambassador said “A guide dog is not suitable for everyone; therefore My Guide gives us the opportunity to reach more people with sight loss and increase their health and wellbeing
In addition to volunteers, My Guide also provide training to help friends and family members to understand sight loss and how support someone close to them.
For more information on accessing these services please contact Kerry on 0345 143 0223 or e-mail Kerry.matthews@guidedogs.org.uk
Sounds Adorable
I adore little children and babies, Especially when they’re only months old. Even the tots who throw tantrums and scream, Are so cute, you really can’t scold!
Lisa, a mum of two was diagnosed with a condition which affected her peripheral vision called Retinitis Pigmentosa at the age of 21. In the beginning, Lisa’s life wasn’t affected by the condition. However, as the years passed it was a roller coaster of highs and lows, gradually losing confidence as her eye sight worsened.
I adore dogs and all new born puppies, Especially those who had a bad start. Though they chew everything into pieces, They’ve a way of melting your heart. I adore watching bonfires and fireworks, Especially the colours so bright. They light up the sky like a rainbow, With their breathtaking flashes of light.
Earlier last year, Lisa was introduced to a My Guide volunteer, Karen. Lisa and Karen meet up once a week and join in with walks organised by the local rambling group. These walks range in difficulty and length but always
If there’s one wish I have, it’s a small one, For they all touch my heart and my soul. When they cry, or bark, or go off with a bang, I can switch off the volume control! Frances Wraight

A Coronet of Curls
To have a head of tousled curls has been a long held dream. Those artful, tumbled, careless coils of black, brown, red or cream. To have your hair piled on your head and tied with pretty bows Hairstyles the Miss Bennetts wore to seduce their handsome beaux! Of course, some heaving bosoms helped to concentrate men’s thoughts, For that was all most young girls had to win the beaux they sought. That was many years ago when women were encouraged To take up ladylike pursuits to prepare them for their marriage. These days are very different when women are more free, To live their lives the way they want - be how they want to be. But despite the trend for straightened hair, worn by today’s young girls, I still hanker for a coronet of pretty, tousled curls. Frances Wraight

PREPARING FOR A BUSY SCHEDULE
Jane Bussey, Musical Director of the Cromer and Sheringham Brass Band (CSBB) is preparing the musicians for the busy schedule of 2018.
Currently twenty engagements have been confirmed for the period April to December, and there are further enquiries in the pipeline awaiting an agreeable slot in the calendar. Many of the bookings are for ongoing annual events so dates for 2019 will also be blocked in before the year is out. Furthermore, the Band will be out in December playing carols for shoppers, and sharing the collection with a local or national charity.
CSBB is, however, facing a problem in being able to fill vacancies arising from retiring musicians and long term absences due to ill health. This is particularly relevant to the cornet section although additional bass players would be very welcome, as indeed would any other brass musicians who feel they might like to join us.
Although the Band is fortunate in being able to call on support from other local bands this is not an option when engagements clash.
CSBB would therefore be pleased to hear from brass musicians who are new to our catchment area or have recently retired or even feel they now have time to return to playing.
The Band, a group of very friendly men and women, meets every Thursday evening at Upper Sheringham Village Hall at 7.30pm. So, if you have the time and feel that you might like to learn more about us, please contact the Band by calling Jane Bussey, Musical Director on 01263 821013, David Williams, Chairman on 01263 515636 or Steve Askew, Secretary on 01263 838411.
Hosts needed
For the past 12 years, families in Cromer have been contributing in a unique educational initiative.
Teenage students from a school in Poland have been staying for two weeks in June with Cromer families. The aim is to improve their spoken English.
This year the organisers have a hiccup! There are more students wishing to take part than there are hosts. We are desperately in need of three more hosts.
If you live in Cromer, have a spare room available and would like a fee paying guest in mid-June please contact either Frank Chesterfield on 01263 512692 or Marionella Strzala on 004860 4124515. There is no need to speak Polish or have teenage children in your household.
Your help in this worthwhile project would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Frank Chesterfield

‘Transition’ Art Exhibition
Please come along, enjoy some refreshments and raffle. fle. join in our raf ,W¶V SHRSOH ZKR PDNH D KRPH.
‘Transition' is an Interactive Art Exhibition by local artist Jan Ellmore, taking place on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 March at The Manor Hotel Mundesley. www.britishlegion.org.uk
Jan says “It is really a celebration of art”. While Jan was painting new work for the exhibition, she was so absorbed in mindful contentment, it suddenly made her feel sad for those who suffer with depression. If only they could submerge their minds into a creative fulfilling hobby.
So over the two days of the exhibition there will be an art table set up for those who fancy giving painting a try. Jan will be at hand to advise if needed, and will also be doing a few demonstrations. If you have an iphone or ipad and ear buds bring them along to listen to the music that inspired three of her paintings. There will also be ear phones supplied.
Jan runs an art group in nearby Trunch. Being a self-taught artist, Jan decided to study at Paston College for Fine Art A levels at the age of 53, and obtained A1s for both AS level and A1 level, going on to win the Tutors Award to further her art career.
Art is a hobby that you can do at any time or place. If the weather is good, get out and paint. If it’s raining, get out some photo to copy. There are NO restrictions with art. Do it for yourself, for your own enjoyment. It is just a bonus if others enjoy viewing it too.
There will be some of Jan's past demo pieces and work being sold for donations of £3 upwards to go towards the voluntary run 'Open Door Cafe' in Mundesley Church Rooms, for people who feel isolated.
Waveney Stardust Trust
The boats are nearly ready! Despite the cold snap, plans are well advanced for the new season for Waveney Stardust Trust.
Waveney Stardust is a charity that began in 1988 with the aim of helping the elderly and people with disabilities to enjoy the waterways of Norfolk in a safe and easily accessible environment at a reduced cost.
The charity now has two specially adapted cruisers with ramps, lifts and open plan level floors to provide safe access for people and wheelchairs. The boats are run by highly trained volunteers who take parties of up to 12 people afloat on subsidised cruises on our beautiful Broads (subsidised rates require at least one person to have an impairment that prevents them enjoying a cruise on a standard boat.).
Last year we took bookings from care homes, support groups, families, schools, private parties, clubs, associations, and community groups. Each cruise is tailored to the group so, for example, on some trips the families have decorated the boat for anniversaries and birthday parties. On other occasions the skipper has tracked wildlife, manoeuvring the boat so that eagle-eyed bird watchers can take their photographs, and on another trip the boat has rendezvoused with the ice-cream boat so that children with sight impairments could choose their treat!
The boats sail from Norwich, Stalham, and Brundall and the season commences with half and full day trips on 1 April. See the website for more details http://www.waveneystardust.co.uk Cromer Times 537 March 17th 2018

First Highlights announced for Holt Festival’s tenth anniversary
North Norfolk’s award-winning Holt Festival is planning to celebrate its tenth anniversary in style judging by the ‘early’ announcements that have just been made ahead of the full programme being revealed later in the year. The 2018 Festival runs from 21 – 29 July.
He promises to thrill the Theatre in the Woods audience on Saturday 28 July with a crowd-pleasing romp through his best-loved songs.
Jasper Carrott, one of the UK’s favourite comedians, has recovered from the health scare that caused him to cancel last year’s appearance at short notice. He is thrilled to be bringing his show Stand Up & Rock, combining stand up comedy with an all-star band featuring Bev Bevan, founding member of ELO and The Move. Jasper said ‘I’m really pleased to be coming to Holt after the disappointment of last year’s cancellation. It’s a thrill to be invited to fill the outdoor theatre with laughter and music for the closing concert’.
Another household name headed for Holt is chart topping singer, songwriter and entertainer Leo Sayer. Leo first hit the charts in 1973 and his ‘Gold Collection’ album returned him there in January 2018.

Other shows have been announced from former leader of the Liberal Democrats Lord (Paddy) Ashdown, James Gilchrist, one of the UK’s leading tenors, and an exclusive show from Italian classical piano megastar Gloria Campaner who teams up with Polish jazz star Leszek Możdżer for ‘Two Pianos’. Pianist Lucy Parham is joined by actor Alex Jennings (recently seen on TV as Prince Leopold in ITV’s Victoria) to tell the story of composer Sergei Rachmaninoff.
Artistic Director Stash Kirkbride said ‘I hope this initial selection of acts gives a taste of our intentions for this year. I can’t wait to tell the world about the full programme with more big names to announce alongside acts that I think will become firm favourites in the future’.

New Cabinet at North Norfolk District Council announced
Cromer Chamber of Trade and Business
With the Beast from the East and its snow now a distant memory, the members of the Cromer Chamber are well advanced with their preparations for the busy Easter and summer periods ahead.
Following the recent election of Cllr John Lee as Leader of North Norfolk District Council, the following changes to NNDC’s Cabinet have been announced:
The town is lucky to have a healthy occupancy rate among its business premises: apart from the two former banks, virtually all other premises are let out. Along with some new businesses opening up, others have had the paint brushes out during then quieter months to spruce things up. As well as focusing on the bricks and mortar, Cromer’s shops and cafés are also embracing the power of digital media to promote themselves and the town.
• Leader of the Council and Chairman of Cabinet Cllr John Lee : Corporate Services (Legal, Democratic Services, Electoral Services, IT & HR) • Deputy Leader Cllr Nigel Dixon : Economic Development, Business & Tourism • Cllr Wyndham Northam : Finance, Revenue & Benefits • Cllr Richard Price : Property and Asset Commercialisation • Cllr Sue Arnold : Housing, Planning and Planning Policy • Cllr Becky Palmer : Leisure, Culture, Health & Customer Services • Cllr Hilary Cox : Environment, Coast and Licensing

The Walkers-are-Welcome initiative is also bearing fruit, with many businesses noticing an increase in visitors coming to the town to enjoy the many spectacular walking routes on offer around the town, along the cliffs and beaches, and in the near-by countryside. Cromer will be playing host to the Walkers-are-Welcome national gathering in October.
After Easter, the first big event of the year will be the Crab and Lobster Festival in May, followed just a few days later by the arrival of the BBC to film the Antiques Roadshow on our famous pier.
There is a lot going on, and a lot to look forward to, giving the chamber and its members a real sense of optimism for the season ahead. For more information about the chamber and a joining pack visit our website www.cromerchamber.org.uk
We are also keen to recruit more volunteers. The roles are varied and include welcoming visitors, keeping the Museum pristine and crewing the steam boat. Full training will be given. Contact our Curator, Nicola Hems, on curator@museumofthebroads.org.uk or 01692 581681.

Woman given suspended jail sentence for animal cruelty at illegal puppy farm A woman has been jailed for 22 weeks – suspended for two years – after pleading guilty to two charges of keeping a dog-breeding establishment without a licence, and a further 15 charges of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal or failing to ensure the welfare of an animal.
Rosemary Fabb, of Carr Lane, Roughton, near Cromer, was sentenced at Norwich Magistrates’ Court after being caught in an undercover sting by North Norfolk District Council officers.
Mrs Fabb was also ordered to pay NNDC’s full costs, of £12,616, as well

as a victim surcharge.
Mrs Fabb had been running an unlicensed puppy farm from outbuildings at her home address. Following indications that Mrs Fabb was breeding without a licence, North Norfolk District Council officers visited the premises in early 2017 and bought a puppy.
A warrant was then obtained and NNDC officers accompanied by the police and a vet returned to the site in February last year.
A number of dirty, matted and unsocialised dogs were found on the premises, living in cold and small pens in agricultural outbuildings that contained faeces and urine. There was evidence of a breeding operation and no indication that the dogs had been let out of their pens. Despite a number of dogs being kept in each pen, only one basket per pen was provided, and most of those lacked any bedding. The vet found that many of the dogs had untreated illnesses and conditions.
Last November, Mrs Fabb pleaded guilty to operating a dog-breeding establishment without a licence but not guilty to a number of charges relating to animal welfare, and a trial date was set. Since then, a further visit was made to her premises, in January this year, when more evidence of an unlicensed dog-breeding establishment was found. The condition of the premises had deteriorated further, and this visit resulted in a number of further animal-welfare charges and one further dog-breeding charge being brought. Mrs Fabb signed the dogs over to the RSPCA to avoid them being seized by NNDC, and all 10 dogs have now been rehomed.
Cllr Richard Price, North Norfolk District Council Portfolio Holder for Licensing, said “This shows that we can and we will prosecute, and it should be a warning for others. We don’t take enforcement lightly but we do take animal welfare very seriously, and our licensing team will take action whenever necessary. It also highlights the usefulness of the Regulatory Investigatory Powers Act 2000, which helped us secure the evidence required to prosecute this case.”

Investment puts Cromer venue on map
Cromer Community Centre is powering ahead with its plans to refurbish its bar and toilet facilities in an ongoing quest to develop the hall as North Norfolk’s leading live and club venue.
Following work last year to install a new lighting rig and PA, the Community Centre has begun to attract increasing interest from local promoters as well as becoming home to Cromer Soul Club.
With the latest round of improvements scheduled for the early part of this year, chair of the centre’s management committee, Phil Harris, said he hoped to “build the venue’s reputation as the new West Runton Pavilion. Those who know their local history will be aware that, in its heyday, the Pavilion played host to such luminaries as AC/DC, the Commodores, Dire Straits, Duran Duran, the Sex Pistols and T-Rex. Sadly, the Pavilion was demolished in 1986, and the North Norfolk coast lost its premiere concert venue.
and record boxes, and just plug in. With its capacity of up to 100-plus for a dance night, it suits us perfectly, and because Cromer offers mainline rail links, we’ve found Northern fans coming from Norwich because they can take advantage of the late train home.
In fact, Bailey and Hawkins have been so impressed with the venue, that they have now collaborated with other local DJs, Sugabeat Sound System and Postmaster Flash (of Holt Vinyl Vault fame), to launch a regular disco night, reDISCOvery - Relight the Fire, in the town.
Cromer Soul Club founders Trevor Bailey (left) and Piers Hawkins

Another great fan of the venue is eclectic singer-songwriter Wreckless Eric. Described as Britain’s biggest underground house-hold name, Eric will be returning to Cromer on 20 May as part of his promotional tour for new album, Construction Time & Demolition (due out 30 March). He played here last year and according to Karen Hall, who handles Eric’s bookings locally, “There is something about the energy in the venue and the size of the stage that make it the perfect place for an artist like Eric. Of all the places in Norfolk he could play he expressly asked me to put him on again in Cromer. He loves the venue and it seems it loves him too.
When Cromer Soul Club founders and DJs, Trevor (Halfnelson) Bailey and Piers (Hitman) Hawkins were looking for a venue to host their Keep the Faith Northern Soul night, the Community Centre seemed the obvious choice.
Among other regular users of the Community Centre is Cromer’s everFirebrand : Wreckless Eric visits Cromer on 20 May expanding Folk on the Pier festival (11 – Bailey explained “With the new built-in 13 May, which enjoys its 20th anniversary PA, we can turn up at the venue with our decks Hawkins commented “It is clear from the this year. Step closer to a cure for Parkinson’s in Norfolk
People in Norfolk are being asked to unite with thousands of others across the UK and step closer to a cure for Parkinson’s. Walk for Parkinson’s at Blickling Estate takes place on Saturday 12 May, and is one of a series of walk events to be held across the UK for Parkinson’s UK during 2018.
There are a range of distances on offer to suit everyone, with a two-mile, 3.5-mile and 5.5-mile walk to choose from. So whether you’re up for a challenging walk or a gentle stroll, there is something for everyone. Team entries are welcome, so why not sign up with your friends, family and colleagues.
important for people with Parkinson’s as research shows that two and half hours of exercise a week can help slow progression of symptoms. Exercise also has a positive impact on wellbeing and mental health.
Sky Sports Presenter and Champion of Walking for Parkinson’s UK Dave Clark was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2011. He is a keen walker himself and is encouraging people to get involved.
He said “We want to make 2018 our biggest year yet for the Walk for Parkinson’s series. I’d like to invite everyone, whatever their level of Walking and other types of exercise is particularly fitness, to take advantage of the many different types of walks, scenic routes and distances available. Frank started as a Saturday boy and is now a fully qualified electrician. He is very popular with our customers, especially the older ladies! Sally has been with the business for just over 2 years on the accounts and admin side.
The rest of the contracting staff will remain the same.

Exciting news from All Saints Church, Upper Sheringham!
At the recent PCC (Parochial Church Council) meeting it was agreed to proceed with a major fundraising project to re-hang the derelict six bells in the tower of All Saints Church to enable traditional English ‘full circle’ bellringing to take place once again. The bells have not been rung like this since the 1930s.
They are a complete ring of six bells cast by Thomas Mears II of Whitechapel, London in 1841. The project will involve all of the bells being removed from the Church and taken to Nicholson Engineering of Bridport, Dorset. A new metal frame will then be made, along
will new fixtures and fittings, and the bells will be tuned before returning everything to the Church. The original wooden mediaeval frame will remain in situ in the tower.
The Magic Flute by Mozart
Donations can be sent to the Project Co-ordinator, Sue Morton at 4 Linden Grove, Sheringham, Norfolk, NR26 8PD. Cheques to be made payable to ‘Upper Sheringham PCC’. Please contact us for a gift aid form – 01263 826078 or suejmorton@gmail.com.
In addition, we plan to install a chiming mechanism to ensure the bells can still be sounded joyfully to call the faithful to worship and to celebrate other occasions when no ringers are available.
North Norfolk Chamber Opera’s (NNCO) rehearsals are well underway for their new and exciting production of Mozart’s opera ‘The Magic Flute’.
It is being staged with a chamber orchestra at The Auden Theatre, Gresham’s School , Holt at 7.30pm on Thursday 12, Friday 13 and Saturday 14 April.
NNCO is a small opera company with big ambitions! It has been performing at The Auden Theatre annually since 2000. Formed in 1990, it remains the only amateur opera company performing in Norfolk. The Magic Flute is filled with Mozart’s melodic, infectious and glorious music and is bound to be a popular choice.
This production has an Egyptian flavour and describes the nature of love, magic and forgiveness. We observe that some characters are ‘in
We hope you share our excitement in the prospect of restoring the only set of bells in the Weybourne Group of Parishes. The total cost of this project is £75,000. All donations, no matter how large or small, will be greatly appreciated.

love’ with the idea of being in love, while others maximise their opportunities to manipulate and control. Can Prince Tamino, Papageno and Pamina navigate through their life trials to become wiser, happier and achieve their ultimate goal? And is the mighty Sarastro evil or is it really the Queen of the Night?
“Thus courage has triumphed and virtue will rise”, the final words of the opera, express the understandings of true love, truth and wisdom as the last pieces fall into place and balance is restored.
We wholeheartedly believe that opera is for all and North Norfolk Chamber Opera welcomes you to come and experience this production. We believe you will be pleasantly surprised and it could be the start of your own journey into opera.

At Kevlin House we have disposed of the task side of care, it’s all about the individual person and how they choose to live each day. We encourage people to become involved in the daily living activities of the home and encourage meaningful occupation.
We thrive as one big family, just people living and working together.
Hedgehog Haven
Another new arrival came in on 24 February - a young female, Stella, weighing 200grms.
I now have a total of 40 in care. Every hut is occupied and six containers are in use. Running out of space, two vulnerable ones are residing in their containers in the lounge!
With the recent freezing weather, there is no chance of releasing any that are ready to go. Of the ones in the outside huts, most are still hibernating to keep them warm.
Mr Schnorby’s is proud to have been serving Cromer and it’s pets for over 7 years, with everything from feeds, treats to accessories. If you can’t see what you need ask and we’ll order for you.
Free local delivery available.
PEANUTS PARLOUR
In store are experienced groomers Peanuts Parlour. A Veterinary Nurse Clinic happens every Monday supplied by Westover Veterinary Centre. We also have in store behaviour clinics with Ridge Rehabilitaion available!
I gave them lots of extra bedding. Amazingly Duster and Mr Prickles have still been coming out every evening and feeding. The hardest part has been trying to keep their water from freezing over.
Willow, whom I mentioned last time, has responded well to her treatment. She is eating very well and is gaining weight so it's looking good for her to be released at a later date.
As the weather turns milder hedgehogs will be awaking from hibernation very hungry and thirsty so please put out a shallow dish of water and a tasty treat of dog or cat food (not in gravy or fish flavour).

The guys are available for in store appointments on a Thursday morning.

We are extremely grateful to the lady who has taken care of them, and, on behalf of the cats, thank her for all her help.
The branch has been running for nearly nineteen years and during that time we have re-homed many cats and kittens. When they leave we always advise the new family to keep them in for several weeks to allow them to get used to their new home before venturing outside. Although most follow our advice there have been a few occasions when a cat has escaped, much to their new family’s distress. I can remember one instance several years ago where the cat flap was set to allow existing cats to come in but not to let the new ones out. The two new cats had worked out that if they positioned themselves nearby they could pull the cat flap door up and make their escape. One was quickly caught but the other was missing for several days before being found hiding in a neighbour’s garage.
Faith, a quite timid little cat, the last of the cats from the group taken in last year, decided to go one better. She had only been in her home for a few days and appeared to have settled and was beginning to enjoy the chance to sit on a lap and receive lots of attention. However, during the night she smashed through the locked cat flap and made a dash for freedom. Her new family contacted us for advice as they were very upset for this to have happened and desperate to have her back. A cat trap was put in place but on the first night she managed to take the food without setting it off. Although there was just one sighting of her we believed she was still in the area as most cats will hide in these circumstances. We were all really concerned when the weather deteriorated during her
second week of freedom. We know that cats are quite resilient and will find shelter in these circumstances (to feral cats it is second nature to do this). Imagine our delight to receive a call just two weeks after her escape to learn that she had finally been caught and was now safely back in her home, receiving lots of fuss and attention. She has lost some weight, which is understandable in the circumstances, but is really glad to back inside. The cat flap has now been boarded up to prevent further escapes until she is Faith, now safely home with ready to go outside again and the cat her family trap has already been out with another family who recently re-homed cats from us. In this instance the cat escaped from its harness on its first walk outside. Thankfully, within a day, she had been caught and is now safely back in her new home! Cats can be very clever and sometimes find their human companions easy to outwit.

Summer is round the corner and the sooner we start to prepare for it, the more time we have to show results. Here is a selection of our treatments that you can benefit from.
Varicose and Thread Veins
Changing options for the treatment of unwanted veins. Days of open surgery, prolonged bruising and painful recovery are long gone. How can a beam of light replace a surgeon’s knife? Is this too good to be true? Not any more. Non-invasive methods are replacing surgery at a very fast rate. So much so that NICE -The National Institute of Clinical Excellence has updated it’s guidelines on the treatment of varicose veins. It has recommended Endovenous laser treatment as the preferred option, foam injections second and surgery where the first two options are not suitable or declined. So come and see us to help you get rid of those unwanted veins anywhere on your face or body.
Safe and effective Laser Hair Removal and Tattoo removal for all skin types.

Why it is a great idea to see us. When it comes to laser hair and tattoo removal it is the wild west in this country. There is no shortage of new places opening up at every corner. We are seeing increasing number of patients who are either dissatisfied or have been harmed because of poorly trained and unregulated providers and cheap copycat or downright dangerous and unapproved machines.
As we all know one size does not fit all. There is simply no machine which is suitable for every person’s needs. With this in mind, we have invested heavily in modern high-end medical machines that have undergone rigorous testing and evaluation. All our therapists also undergo rigorous initial and on going training in laser safety.
We have helped thousands of patients remove unwanted hair, ingrowing hair and rashes, pseudofolliculitis barbae (razor bumps) and even helped patients with poly-cystic ovaries.

Laser Liposuction This is the perfect time to consider liposuction for reducing unwanted areas of fat. The procedure is carried out purely under local anaesthesia on a walk-in, walk-out basis and most patients are recovered by 3-5 days. Medically supervised weight loss treatments are also available.
Did you know we can remove unsightly moles and blemishes without the knife? Far too young
Miranda Marshall, Director, Hayes + Storr
Almost half of people in the UK (47%) have never discussed inheritance with their families and a quarter of them (26%) do not think it is a priority. According to this recent poll, the reason is that most people do not think that they are old enough to worry about it.
Government statistics show that Inheritance Tax (IHT) raised £4.9billion in the last financial year. Although this is partly due to rising property prices and a freezing of the IHT threshold, it is also down to poor planning.
This is because it is a highly emotional subject, as entirely understandably, people generally don’t like talking about money or death! The research also shows that one in ten people would like to get to grips with it but just haven’t found the right time, or just don’t know where to start.
This is why a general review of your affairs can be so helpful. Solicitors especially, much more than accountants, have a wide range of skills to enable a number of different possible arrangements to be put in place. Often a review takes place at the same time as making an up-to-date tax-efficient Will. We can talk with you about making gifts of assets and advising on what to give, how to give it and to whom. Issues specific to the older or more vulnerable client can also be sensitively considered. We can see you alone or with family members. However, we are professionally bound and highly-trained to ensure that there is no

undue influence and that questions of mental capacity are thoroughly and gently considered.
All this can be interwoven with addressing potential lifetime tax planning issues such as a Capital Gains Tax (CGT) liability, which can often be managed or delayed using a number of possible methods.
It was a distinguished Labour Chancellor of the Exchequer who said wryly that Inheritance Tax is a voluntary tax paid by those who trust their families less than they trust the tax man.

Blickling wins award for ‘Creativity with Collections’ as the doors of the house open for 363 days a year
Blickling Estate has pocketed the prestigious ‘Creativity with Collections’ Award at the National Trust’s ‘Move, Teach and Inspire’ conference at Heythrop Park in Oxford.
Over the past year the house team used the opportunity of being open all year round to develop a new conservation-led experience, seizing the opportunity to share, engage and inspire visitors.
Throughout 2017, Blickling Estate encouraged visitors to come and see what goes on behind the scenes. Every Tuesday visitors were given the opportunity to get involved in the vital conservation and housekeeping processes that preserve the house for future generations. This became known as ‘Conservation Tuesday’ and was a popular attraction, encouraging both existing and first-time visitors to come and find out more. Blickling also hosted special tours on these days, including the attics, where visitors could discover more unusual and intriguing stories of past inhabitants.

The estate was inspired to extend the opportunity for supporters to not only visit more frequently, but to share their vital conservation work and join in the conversation about the National Trust’s primary purpose of caring for the nation’s heritage.
“This project ticked both these boxes by allowing visitors to come into the house in the winter and to be able to see you cleaning and caring for the collection. I am so pleased that the reaction of your visitors has been so positive and that your efforts have been recognised in a tough category” said Paul Forecast, Regional Director for NT East of England.
A new visitor entrance on a Tuesday was introduced and by using a mix of audio/visual, written and verbal interpretation, visitors found the collections more accessible and could view artefacts from a fresh perspective. Pop-up conservation stations covered a variety of topics from care of leather to the cleaning of collection objects including ceramics and books; and there were volunteer-led demonstrations, expert talks, and objects to handle; as well as a new video telling the story of our textile collection.

Joyce Irvine proved you are never too old to keep fit as she celebrated her 90th birthday with friends at a seated exercise class held in Sheringham Library.
Joyce was surprised by her friends and fellow exercise class members who organised a celebration with chocolate cake, music and party hats, although she nearly uncovered the surprise when she arrived at the Library earlier than expected to return some books!
Joyce Irvine celebrates her 90th birthday with Wyn Nurse, North Norfolk District Council’s Senior Sport Activator, during the seated exercise class in Sheringham
As a founder member of the class, Joyce has been enjoying the benefits of seated exercise since the class was set up by North Norfolk District Council in 2015 as part of its Sports Hubs and Clubs programme. The 45-minute session is designed for those who like to keep fit and enjoy a gentle workout while sitting down, and it is regularly attended by up to 15 members.
When asked what she loves about the class, Joyce responded “There is a real sense of friendship among the group, it is a great place to meet people and socialise. We all have great fun and, of course, I really enjoy the exercise.”
Cllr Maggie Prior, NNDC’s Cabinet Member for Health & Wellbeing, said “My very best wishes to Joyce for a happy birthday! The seated exercise classes offer an opportunity for people to come together to exercise and keep fit. As the group at Sheringham has proved, the sessions also help to generate a sense of community and a place where lasting friendships are made.”
Joyce, who turns 90 on Friday, 2 March, plans to celebrate her birthday with her family at a gathering in Lincolnshire.

Cromer Marrams Bowls Club
Come and join the Norfolk Mountaineers
Also known as - read on to find out! Every two years you will find the Mountaineers atop a mountain in the Alps. To date we have climbed nine different peaks, having repeated two therefore making a total of eleven since 1994. I suppose that when faced with the might and height of Beeston Hill (Bump) near Sheringham at around 103 metres, a trip to the Alps is a cakewalk! A trip to Beeston is not now overly high on our list but a non-Norfolk Mountain is something else.
Our conquests range from the Alpspitze in 1994 near Nesselwang at 2,628 metres then following on we were on the Nebelhorn at 1,900 metres, the Breitenberg at 1,838 repeated in 2016 and several others in between all over 1,800Metres. Our highlight was Germany’s highest peak, the Zugspitze at a breathtaking, as the air was a bit thin, 2,962 metres. I expect all of this sounds very pioneering but I must confess that apart from the Tegelberg at 1,730 metres conquered from bottom to top by a few of us, the others all required the assistance of the cable cars. That is apart from the last few hundred metres to the summit and this is usually challenging enough. The views, wild flower meadows and the food at the top are all b reathtaking and are available to you all via membership of the North Walsham Town Twinning, The Friends of Friesenried.
So for more information on our trips to Germany, the mountains and exchanges please call Steve on 01953 607119 or Dianne on 01692 402726.We need you, especially as flag planters!
Tales from the Bowling Green ...
News from the Marrams Club House Things are stirring on Runton Road with the coming of ‘spring’.
The season is not many weeks away and the ‘green team’ have now been mowing and scarifying the grass ready for an early April start.
Plans are afoot to ‘spruce up’ the club house, both inside and out. Everyone would be welcome (with a brush!) to ‘paint’ wood preservative on the outside on 22 March and clean and tidy inside the clubhouse and the surrounds of the green on 29 March. The planned opening of the green is only three weeks away, Saturday 7/Sunday 8 April, 10am.
The fun continues unabated in the short mat bowls where there is a three-way battle at the top of the league, James, Bob and Neil P.
In the meantime come and meet us at our stall selling slices of delicious German recipe cakes at the North Walsham Fun Day on 24 June and enjoy a slice of Germany.
The cup competition has reached the semi final stage with the two Neils, James and Jan in contention. There are still two rounds of John’s quiz to go before the final. Jean, Roger P and Jack lead the scoring.
Running the London Marathon for Lymphoma Association Have you ever been asked, by a family member, to do something with them? It might have been to wash the dishes, or even help them build something. Well, when Emily Bowyer, came out with that well-worn phrase "Daaaddd....?", her father, Jeff, was expecting a request to spend a few minutes perhaps helping Emily with her car, or dishing out some parental advice. What Jeff wasn't expecting was Emily to ask him to run the London Marathon with her!
Jeff, having done a couple of London Marathons before, knew that this would be one of those special, never to be forgotten days, in Emily's life, and wanted her to experience it, so didn't hesitate to say yes. There is

a famous old saying, about 'fools rushing in', and this came to the forefront of Jeff's mind, when he suddenly remembered he was a lot older, than the last time he did a marathon, and that his body constantly reminds him, that certain sporting injuries, will never go away! Nevertheless, the promise had been made, now it was just the small matter of training …
Well, the training is underway, with lots more to come before the big day on 22 April, and Emily and Jeff would really appreciate any help people can give, in terms of sponsorship.

which resonates deeply with their family, as Jeff's wife and Emily's mum, Jayne, has had Hodgkins Lymphoma before, and only last year, had thyroid cancer, so any money that can be raised for charity will be gratefully received.
