Cromer Royal British Legion Celebrates 100 Years
The Cromer Branch of the Royal British Legion in North Norfolk has commemorated the centenary of the Royal British Legion.
The Chairman - Hilary Cox MBE, David Phillip-Pritchard the Secretary, Deputy Mayor and Treasurer - Dr. Mike Bossingham and our Town Mayor Cllr. Richard Leeds gathered at the War Memorial (which is also celebrating its centenary in July). A wreath was laid on behalf of the branch along with a further wreath on behalf of the Cromer Women’s Section. The group then moved to the Royal British Legion Care Home at Halsey House where a further wreath was laid in their Memorial Garden.
Branch Chairman, Hilary Cox spoke at the events giving a brief history of the Royal British Legion both nationally and locally. She said that the “British Legion was formed on 15-July 1921 as an amalgamation of four WW1 charities: • The National Association of Discharged Sailors and Soldiers • The British National Federation of Discharged and Demobilized Sailors and Soldiers • The Comrades of The Great War • The Officers' Association Continued on page 4...
