Cromer Town Council

In 2020, Cromer Town Council had planned to commemorate several important occasions in the year.

Starting in May, arrangements were in place to mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE-Day), this day was the end of conflict in Europe in WWII. Followed in August by the Victory in Japan Day (VJ-Day) which saw the conclusion of war in the Pacific arena and then on 15-September-2020, the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain was due to be commemorated. Along with these national events, Cromer Town Council was due to hold a dedication service for the new Poppy Panels which were installed behind the War Memorial so that wreaths could be displayed longer and for everyone to see.

The Council had also agreed to make and display 4.500 ceramic poppies in similar style to the “Weeping Window” which was held at the Tower of London in 2018. Supported by some brilliant sponsors and donors, plans for the structure were well advance with many residents purchasing their poppy – to be collected following removal of the display. Unfortunately, what happened next was a global pandemic which put an end to all the events. Attempts were made to try arranging the events in 2021 were short lived due to a further national lockdown which meant the earliest we could celebrate would be mid-2022. Continued on page 4...

Cromer Town Council

Continued from front cover... The Council had already been making plans to mark the Platinum Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II and once the Government confirmed there would be an extended Bank Holiday, it was agreed to hold all the events during the first week of June, starting on Thursday through to Sunday 05-June.

The 4,500 poppies have been kept safe and secure since volunteers finished making them with the generous help and guidance from Sue Mears of the Sticky Earth Café, Church Street in Cromer. The poppies are available for advance purchase with or without steel “stems” and in red or purple. The purple poppies are being used to commemorate animals lost in warfare and where the red poppies will cascade from the side window of the Church, the purple poppies will encircle a life-size wicker horse also made and donated by a generous sponsor.

Hundreds of the beautiful poppies have already been sold and further opportunities to buy one will be announced between now and the end of the display in June. Large poppies are £20, medium are £15, and small poppies are £10.

Events in Cromer begin early on Thursday 02 June with a road closure through town. An exciting feature of the day will be a street dance for everyone to join led by Marlene’s School of Dance. A grand street party follows for the many people who volunteered with Cromer Cares throughout the pandemic along with the hundreds of people they helped, advised, and assisted with deliveries and appointments.

Town Clerk, Julie Chance who also recently won an award for her work with Cromer Cares said:“This is an opportunity for the town to recognise the hours of work provided by volunteers

during lockdown. And a small way of saying “thank you” to the brilliant people who came forward and did shopping or collected medication for those who were housebound or isolating. This is the least we can do”

park where nationally led events take place with a piper, bugler and a massed choir formed from four local choirs. All will play or sing specially written pieces to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee. Then at 21:45, a beacon will be lit, linking up with a chain of beacons around the British Iles.as a beautiful end to a day of commemorations.

During the party, honours and awards will be presented to many of the guests.

On Friday 3rd June, the Poppy Panels near the War Memorial will be dedicated in a service where military groups and charities will be invited to attend along with residents and visitors to the town. The evening will see “Folk on the Pier” holding events in a Grand Marquee erected in North Lodge Park.

Traders are being invited to join in with the events and there is already interest from some of the shops in town. In the coming days, the Clerk aims to visit as many traders as possible to tell them about the events, the road closure and how they can help or join in.

What is being considered as the highlight of the events will take place on Thursday afternoon. At 17:00, Cromer Town Council have arranged for a flypast and display of a WWII Spitfire to take place over the sea. At present, Cromer is the only venue where this is taking place and the last time such an event was held was in September 2013 when thousands came to Cromer to witness the famous and iconic plane.

As darkness descends on Cromer, a torchlight procession will assemble in the Church grounds and will make their way to the Runton Road car

Saturday brings a display of military vehicles outside the Cromer Town Council offices in North Lodge Park. As the day has been set aside for commemorating the postponed VE Day 75, VJ Day 75 and Battle of Britain 80 events, an afternoon tea is being held in the marquee at North Lodge for WW2 veterans along with residents of Halsey House.

If you have a relative who fought in WWII who would like to join the tea, please contact Cromer Town Council to let us have the details so we can send an invitation.

The final day on Sunday sees the town come together in a Service of Commemoration at 15:00 in the Parish Church with thanks to the Wardens and Clergy of the Church. A private event for the volunteers in the Marquee at North Lodge Park in the evening brings a very busy and exciting series of commemorations to a conclusion. People will talk about the celebrations for years to follow and once again, Cromer will be leading the way!

For further information for visitors or traders, please contact the Town Clerk – 01263 512254.

Cromer Lifeboat Football Cup Needs New Organisers

A Note from the editor

It’s okay, you can come out of hibernation now. The sun is putting in the odd appearance, the temperature is rising, and shoots are starting to break through in the garden. Spring is nearly here!

The Cromer Lifeboat Cup Football Committee are seeking a new Chairman and Secretary to organise the competition in 2023. The current holders of the above posts, Derek and Rita Hinds, are retiring after giving over 26 years’ service to organising the competition for much needed funds to support the Cromer Lifeboat. During that time, with the support of the Committee and volunteers the competition has raised over £50,000.00 for Cromer Lifeboat. In its 118 years history Derek and Rita are the longest serving officers of the posts of Chairman and Secretary. Derek said that we felt it was now time to hand over, Rita and myself have met some wonderful people over the years and we thank the Committee, sponsors, businesses, local teams, referees and finally the supporters for all the support they have given to our cup competition over the years and hopefully this will continue in the future. If anyone is interested in taking on the organisation of this prestigious competition, would they please contact Derek or Rita by email; derek.hinds123@btinternet.com. I don’t know about you, but I always feel better as the days lengthen and everything seems to be waking up and getting going. Speaking of which, remember the clocks go forward on 27th March, those lighter evenings are a sign that summer is not that far away.

The 27th is also Mother’s Day so don’t forget the card and some flowers, maybe an afternoon out or Sunday lunch and don’t leave her with the washing up for a change. Whatever you are up to, enjoy your March magazine.

Keep safe and well. Jo – Editor.

WHY C HOOSE WHY CHOOSE SILVER & WARD WARD SILVER SOLICITORS? SOLICITORS?

Derek & Rita Hinds are in the middle. Photo courtesy Paul Russell

“It’s a recurrent misconception that a larger firm is better.”

I am Clare Mayell and I own Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor. I appreciate that any time of the year can be a difffficult time for many people to resolve legal issues of worry and concern, for example, making a will or Lasting Power of Attorney, and especially during this very uncertain time. As I have worked for 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norrffolk or Norrw wich and I provide 24 years of expertise and exceptional service. I pride myself in being one of the only solicitors who offers a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, so clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an informed decision. At a larger firm you just pay more. I can also offer appointments via Zoom, telephone or Skype and through the website www.silverandward.co.uk.. When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. I advise new clients to “shop around” as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can offer the same expertise, if not better. I have and can act for clients across Norrffolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs. Of course we have all necessary Covid measures in place in the office.

“I would say to any potential client with a legal issue or worry to come and meet me face to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain. Home visits can be arranged at no extra cost.

Overstrand WI

Cromer and Sheringham Probus Club

On 1 February, after an excellent lunch at the Links Hotel in West Runton, we enjoyed a vivid and well-illustrated talk by the author Phyllida Scrivens. Her theme (which is also the title of her book, published last year) was “The Great Thorpe Railway Disaster of 1874”.

This being our penultimate meeting, it was somewhat bittersweet and attended by our WI adviser, a county official who had to attend to wield the metaphorical axe.

On 10 September 1874, late in the evening, a mail train pulled out of Great Yarmouth, bound for Norwich. Also, a train which had arrived from London, pulled out of Norwich, bound for Yarmouth. This train was late, and instead of waiting for the incoming train from Yarmouth to come through, it was mistakenly allowed to leave the station. The two trains met on a single-track section of the line, and the very rainy and windy weather made it harder for the train drivers to see the danger.

This will bring to an end our WI which was formed in 1983 leaving our remaining members with many memories of happy times and lasting friendships formed. The last few years has seen our membership numbers dwindle to the point where we are unviable. This has been a result of various factors, none of which were under our control.

This meeting was however not all doom and gloom as one of our members gave us a truly fascinating insight into the workings of the Foreign Office. She told us many interesting facts gleaned from her years “in post” when she worked as Social Secretary to Douglas Hurd. Though she admitted the job was a demanding one, she loved it and most of what it entailed. By all accounts he was a nice person to work for with a good sense of humour.

The trains collided on a bridge over the River Yare. Both drivers and the two firemen were killed instantly; 17 of the passengers died then or shortly afterwards and a further 10 were to die later of their injuries. Although a further 70 were recorded as injured, happily over 100 other passengers were able to walk away from the accident; the casualty toll could have been much worse had the carriages not been separated from the locomotives by some commercial wagons. News of the disaster was published in the local and national press, and investigations, a trial and claims for compensation followed the incident, although one positive consequence was that railway safety measures were tightened up considerably. The graves of the driver (John Prior) and fireman (James Light) of the train from Yarmouth are to be found in the Rosary Cemetery in Norwich.

Her tasks included arranging guest lists and menus for official banquets where this part of government machinery had to run smoothly. Floral arrangements were white, and the four butlers were gay and good fun. The food selection needed to be substantial but easy to eat so that Douglas could eat and talk. One particular guest, Nelson Mandela insisted on going to thank the chefs in person, a request which was unique but complied with. We were also told that the cellars were well stocked and located under Whitehall.

Phyllida’s excellent talk, which also described the very varied backgrounds of many of those involved in the disaster, was applauded by the chairman and members. 24 members were present, including some new ones.

Following these fly on the wall observations we enjoyed a tea break enhanced by a trio of homemade cakes.

The formalities of our impending closure were then explained by our WIA, and this will happen on March the 31st 2022.

On 4th April Stephen Scott-Fawcett will speak to us on ‘Nepal – Now & Next’. If you would like to know more about the club, please visit our website www.candsprobus.club or contact our Lunch Secretary Dave Vickery on 01263 824306.

Before then though we will enjoy afternoon tea at the Sea Marge Hotel a few days before our final meeting on March 16th 2022, which will see us having a nostalgic last look through our scrap books complied over the years.

This is to say a big thank you to all the Opticians in North Walsham, including Doctor’s Surgeries, Cromer, Sheringham, Holt, Fakenham and a lady named Jenny who all collect used spectacles for onward transmission via Chichester Lions Club to poor Third World Countries. These glasses make a huge difference to those abroad who have severe problems with their sight.

So far this year we have collected more than ever before and are already sorting out another huge number for onward transmission in the next few weeks. I cannot tell you all how grateful we are for your support, which also means there are not many pairs wasted in Landfill.

Please keep up the good work and remember if you are interested in our Lions’ work you may contact me, Liz Bowler on 01263 833866 or our Secretary Brian Harris on 01263 821276.

We look forward to a summer of fun helping other needy people. Please contact us if you need support with small local projects in our area.

The Strand Club

Wednesday 9th February was our first meeting in our new venue (The White Horse, Overstrand) and everyone seemed to think that it was a good move. We had two visitors and 1 new member which made a total of 22 people to listen to a talk by Marian about her work with hedgehogs at her ‘Hedgehog Haven’ in North Walsham. She told us that she has had up to 74 sick or disabled hogs at one time in her small, self-funded sanctuary that she runs from home. I think we all know that they are nocturnal and therefore if we find one out in broad daylight, it is pretty much certain that something is wrong. It’s also quite a well-known fact that the once common practice of putting out a saucer of milk for hedgehogs, is a definite no-no as they cannot digest the lactose in milk. However, I was shocked to hear that too many mealworms, (that hogs love, by the way,) are very detrimental to their health, as they can cause a hedgehog version of brittle bone disease!

Small Furries at Age Concern North Norfolk Caring for small animals is usually a childhood experience that we look back on with wonder and love.

coming to the centre and visits such as this bring out their caring skills, memories of childhood or having pets for their own children and helping with relaxation.

This is especially important for people who are sometimes more agitated in the afternoon and we have evidence that this type of activity calms people and takes their minds off themselves.

We had the visit of six beautifullycoloured female guinea pigs from Cavies and Cakes of Fakenham.

Half of our support workers have completed Level 2 training in Dementia and our centre is a great resource for people living with dementia and their carers.

All of our female clients fully embraced the opportunity to cuddle and feed them – our gentlemen were a little more reticent however!

Guinea pigs live for around 6 years and can produce 2-5 young – all born with full coats and eyes open.

Guinea pigs graze constantly so our ladies had a lovely time feeding them with bits of carrot and lettuce.

Places are available Tuesday to Friday – phone 01263 821188 to book a Half Price Taster Day.

Cavies and Cakes have a café where the guinea pigs are on show in their cages so perhaps we will arrange an outing in the warmer weather to see them and enjoy a cream cake or two ourselves!

All electors are welcome to attend and raise questions in relation to the town.

The North Norfolk Railway has announced that over 143,000 visitors travelled on the 5½ mile heritage line during its 2021/22 financial year which ended last week. The popular 5½ mile heritage line was forced to close between Christmas 2020 and April 2021, then endured three-months where only limited operations were possible but rallied in the second half of the year to welcome a total of 143,632 passengers. Graham Hukins, Commercial Manager, commented, “This is a very strong result in the circumstances, and we are looking forward to a more normal season in 2022. Pre-Covid, we would expect to carry around 160,000 visitors in a full year, so we are very pleased with the 2021 result which is a testament to our volunteers and staff who ensured we delivered great experience for visitors.

He added, “Since the New Year, the team been busy with a huge amount of work behind the scenes to get ready for this year and we’re looking forward to

North Norfolk Railway Looking Forward to 2022 Season After Strong Performance in 2021

running trains and welcoming visitors over the rest of the year.”

The work has included annual servicing of steam and diesel engines, repainting some of the line’s vintage carriages, track maintenance, clearing vegetation from the lineside and revarnishing the wooden floors at the line’s three stations.

“Looking after historic locomotives, carriages, track and buildings is a huge year-round effort, “explained Graham, “but there are some tasks that can only be carried out when we’re closed to the public.

He added, “We’ve also looked at ways to ensure today’s passengers get the most out of their visit so have compiled an information flyer to help visitors explore Sheringham, Weybourne and Holt stations, and devised an activity sheet for children. Our rover tickets are great value, allowing unlimited travel all day so it’s important that passengers know just how

much history, heritage, scenery and wildlife there is to discover.”

Steam and heritage diesel trains run at weekends in March before the line’s daily service, which operates from 1 April to 30 October, commences. Passengers booking in advance will enjoy special, discounted fares – full details including times and how to book can be found at www.nnrailway.co.uk

Norfolk Open Studios 2022

Applications are now open for makers and creators from across Norfolk to take part in Norfolk Open Studios.

The scheme annually sees hundreds of artists opening their studios to the public to share their creative processes – and for the second year running the event will take place in early autumn. Now, artists are invited to apply to take part in the 2022 event which will take place between 24 September and 9 October.

Artists at all stages of their careers are invited to take part, from school and college students through to emerging artists, groups, established and professional creators and makers. As well as opening their studios many artists get together to host art trails, events and demonstrations.

Ros Dixon, Norfolk Open Studios Administrator, said: “Norfolk Open Studios is excited to be launching its call out to artists, as it marks the start of the build-up to this year’s event in the autumn. We’re looking forward to artists and schools from across the county getting involved, with the scheme continuing to be a wonderful way for artists to connect with the public as well as fellow artists. It’s also the second time the event is to be held in the autumn, which is a magical time of year to be inviting visitors to be out and about discovering Norfolk’s artistic community.”

The free event annually attracts thousands of visitors who travel throughout Norfolk to meet our county’s artists. Last year more than 320 artists took part across 237 studios and schools. For visitors it’s a chance to see makers and creators at work in their studios, garages, spare rooms, garden rooms, community spaces and schools, getting an insight into how and where they work – and maybe having a go at getting creative themselves.

The scheme is open to all artists from painters, sculptors, weavers and furniture makers to jewellery makers, wood workers, ceramicists, textile artists and anyone practising their craft throughout the county.

download an application form from the scheme’s website.

Painter Sara Edwards said: “Last year was my first open studio and I sold many paintings, prints and cards and took several commissions, but the best part was engaging with so many people who were interested in art. As well as making sales, I had the opportunity to promote my teaching workshops and I ran one of these as a Norfolk Open Studios event. Taking part in Norfolk Open Studios was an enjoyable and rewarding experience which provided a new audience for my art and benefitted my career.” Norfolk Open Studios welcomes applications from all artists, groups of artists and schools – people wishing to take part can apply online or

Artists taking part will receive a profile and artwork image in the NOS brochure, a website listing (which remains published on the website for up to a year), as well as posters and postcards to publicise their involvement. They will have the opportunity to take part in the Preview exhibition at The Forum in Norwich, one of the largest annual art exhibitions held at the venue.

Applications opened on Monday 28 February and close on Friday 8 April 2022.

For more information or to apply visit www.openstudios.org.uk or email openstudios@nnfestival.org.uk or call 01603 877762.

The Pink Ladies’ Tractor Road Run Needs Your Stories

more than just money. We have always said and believed that. Behind every Pink Lady is a story. It may have everything to do with breast cancer or nothing at all, but whatever the motives, they have been strong enough to create a unique, emotional, special and enduring phenomenon.

Pink Ladies’ Tractor Road Run organiser Annie Chapman. ©Jonathan Slack

The Pink Ladies’ Tractor Road Run has eyes on a new challenge – to produce a book charting the rise of the iconic event and the stories behind the women who take part.

The first Pink Ladies Tractor Run set off in 2004 and to date the event has raised a staggering £812,000 for Cancer Research UK’s breast cancer appeal.

Organised by Annie Chapman BEM, the run annually sees more than 100 decorated tractors winding their way through Norfolk and north Suffolk.

Each year money is raised by the ladies who take part in the event, money collected on the day from the thousands of supporters who gather along the route and donations and fundraising activities following the run. Now the event is looking to produce a book to share the stories of the people who make it happen – the tractor drivers, marshals, sponsors, supporters and countless others. Organiser Annie Chapman said: “It’s about

Salvation Army receives funding to help feed vulnerable people and families

Call Steve on 01263 511626

The Salvation Army in Norfolk has been awarded funding to help feed www.cromergaragedoors.co.uk vulnerable people and families in the county. The church and charity is being supported by the Norfolk Community Foundation through its Household Support Fund to purchase and distribute food parcels.

The Salvation Army is an international Christian church and registered charity which has been transforming lives for more than 150 years. Working in 132 countries worldwide, it offers friendship, practical help and support for people at all levels of need. In the UK and Ireland, this work includes more than 650 community churches and social centres. Major Howard Russell, leader of the Salvation Army in Norfolk, said the funding would have a significant impact.

He added: “We are very thankful to have received these funds and this was an amazing and generous grant. Support for our ongoing work with food parcels is always welcome but this grant is particularly timely because of the extremely high demand for assistance. Households are being hit by high inflation with fuel prices soaring and price hikes on many essential food items.”

Claire Cullens, Chief Executive, said: “Norfolk Community Foundation is delighted to support this much needed project that will make a real difference in the community. We wish The Salvation Army every success with their work.”

THE BRIGANTINE A northerly gale Lay full astern, With short steep waves To remind us. We shield our eyes From the briny spray, That’s blowing fit To blind us. Then a holler from The masthead… “Deck ahoy! A full’ rigged Brig, Runnin’ wi’ the wind; Closin’ fast behind us!” “Hard a starb’d” The skipper yells… “Get two more men on The wheel!” We hold on for dear life, To what we can grab, As the ship begins to ‘heel’. The reckless Brig goes Plunging by; To hail her crew we strive… Dear God have mercy on us, And grant we all survive. A host of skeletons sail the ship; No mortal soul alive!

A practical guide to the new ‘no fault’ divorce law by Emma George, Family Solicitor, Hayes + Storr Solicitors

The long-awaited Act for “no fault” divorce was passed in June 2020. It is due to become law on 6th April 2022. The law is set to end the ‘blame game’ and cut short lengthy separation periods. Here is a practical guide to the changes in divorce proceedings from April 2022 onwards in England and Wales.

1. There is no need to place blame Under the new legislation, couples can divorce without having to cite blame. They will no longer need to rely on one of the 5 grounds for divorce, which previously included: • • • • •

Unreasonable behaviour Adultery Two years separation (with consent) Five years separation (without consent) Desertion

These five grounds will be removed. Under the new law, parties can make a joint statement to apply for a divorce order if they both agree that the marriage has come to an end. Previously, only one spouse could apply for the divorce. This new option allows both parties to apply together, in a joint, more agreeable way.

2. New terminology The term decree nisi has been used by the court to mark the first stage of divorce after the acknowledgement of papers by the spouse

and after the application has been granted by the court. Under the reformed legislation, this stage of the process will be known as a conditional order.

Similarly decree absolute, which marks the final stage of divorce, confirming that the marriage has officially come to an end, will be known as a final order. This follows the current terms used for ending civil partnerships in a bid to try and simplify the legal process.

3. You can no longer defend a divorce Under the new Act, it will not be possible to contest the decision to divorce.

4. There is a minimum wait period for the Final Order There will be a minimum period of 20 weeks between the initial application and the conditional order, and another six weeks between the conditional and the final order. That means that even a straightforward divorce will take at least six months to complete. However, as all divorces are now applied for online, it is unlikely that the process will take any longer than the current divorce process.

5. Is there a change to the court fee? From 30 September 2021 the Government increased the court fee from £550 to £593. Whilst official guidance is yet to be released,

it is unlikely that this will change prior to April 2022.

6. How will this affect the finances? The financial side of divorce will not change. Divorce and finances are separate but run parallel in the court system. The Act has been created with the intention of making the process of divorce easier and more amicable, but it is unlikely to have any effect on financial matters relating to divorce.

Clients are strongly advised to seek expert legal advice to resolve any financial disputes, and to document any agreement reached into a legally recognised consent order which is then full and final and cannot be changed.

February News

So how do we harness what we have and make it even better?

things we’re good at doing, and producing, much more widely, providing more growth, more jobs, and more prosperity.

This is where the investment that levelling up will provide is so important. We know that we need better roads and public transport.

Look at what we have.

We have a world-renowned centre of training and excellence in medicine at the University of East Anglia, plus the Norwich Biomedical Research Centre.

We need homes that truly are ‘affordable’, so that our brightest minds can afford to live and work here, rather than leaving the area and going elsewhere.

We have opportunities for carers, nurses, doctors, and dentists to work in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.

I recently heard someone talking about ‘levelling up the North’. I had to correct them: the government’s intention is to level up the whole country.

What does levelling up mean for us here in the East of England, and in North Norfolk?

Well, it’s about recognising that the East is already an enormous success – we are one of only three UK regions to be ‘net contributors’ to the economy, ie. we produce more than the state invests in us.

With more investment, we could sell the many

We need more investment in education and training – such as the highly successful apprenticeships and Restart schemes.

One third of the UK’s gas comes through Bacton, with countless new opportunities for jobs and research in new carbon net-zero technologies.

Now that the threat of Covid is beginning to recede and we can begin to look once again towards the future, my job – and that of all the East Anglian MPs – will be to remind everyone that levelling up isn’t just a Northern thing.

The visitor economy of the East of England generates over £10bn a year.

We have start-up and established companies producing everything from space rockets to filming locations and studio facilities for Netflix and Amazon.

We will expect – and demand – that the East of England and North Norfolk receive their fair share too.

What links all of this together is a very special quality that people in the East of England have.

I believe we have more creative minds; more people willing to take risks; and more innovators in this part of the country than almost anywhere else.

We’ve already seen that begin to happen with the huge government investment in North Walsham, and I will continue to advocate for the whole of North Norfolk to benefit in a similar way.

Laser therapy helping pets at Toll Barn Vets

Local Author has new book:

Told at Dusk, Remembered at Dawn

Award winning author of novels, short stories, scripts for screen and stage Laurence Staig has just had a new collection of short stories published: “Told at Dusk, Remembered at Dawn.”

At Toll Barn Vets we believe in constantly providing the highest standard of care for our patients by utilising cutting edge technology to reduce reliance on medication. This is particularly beneficial for chronic conditions and significantly improves our pets’ quality of life.

Best known as a writer of thrillers, mystery and horror this new collection contains 16 uncollected stories and a novella “The Darkness at Taskerlands.”

As part of this commitment we offer our patients Laser Therapy which reduces inflammation and provides pain relief. It is Misty having treatment effective at treating acute and chronic pain as well as improving wound healing. It is most frequently performed in contact with the area being treated, however, for nervous patients it can be used without contact with the body and can also be applied to acupuncture points to achieve similar responses to traditional acupuncture without requiring application of needles.

It is his first new book since his Supernatural Thriller “The Companion” was published a few years ago, when he lived near Bury St Edmunds. Since then, he has moved to a house in Overstrand, thus becoming another local artist who lives in Poppyland.

The stories are a strange mixture of humour and the grotesque: a room with terrible secrets in its walls: a drug that will blow more than just your mind: an art installation to die for: a supermarket poltergeist with an eye for fashion. Sixteen short stories and one novella from a master of the strange, the unusual, the downright unsettling.

Laser therapy is safe, painless and fast with most sessions taking 5-10 minutes per area of treatment and most patients show significant improvement after 3-5 treatment sessions. Laser therapy stimulates the body’s own healing powers by stimulating cellular activity which reduces inflammation, provides pain relief, stimulates nerve regeneration and improves tissue repair often leading to a reduction in requirement for medication and reduced healing times. Laser therapy often forms part of the treatment for osteoarthritis, degenerative joint disease (eg hip and elbow dysplasia), intervertebral disc disease (spinal pain), skin disease, post operative wound healing, sprains and strains, treatment of orthopaedic disease (eg cruciate ligament rupture) and periodontal disease. We are one of the few centres within East Anglia to have a Laser suitable to perform these treatments and are happy to discuss the suitability of laser therapy as part of your pets care.

Stephen Jones, World Fantasy Award-winning writer and editor recently wrote of his work: “Laurence Staig is one of the great unsung heroes of British horror and fantasy fiction.”

He will be reading a story a day for a “Told at Dusk” week on the newly launched Poppyland Radio - yet to be scheduled, see the Poppyland Radio site for details.

Told at Dusk, Remembered at Dawn is published by The Brooligan Press and is available on Amazon as a Kindle and paperback.

Historic Name Continues at the Helm of Little Theatre

Lady Walpole has taken over the presidency of Sheringham Little Theatre with the aim of seeing her famous family name reach a 50-year milestone as the figurehead of the arts venue.

Lady Walpole, whose role was approved at the theatre’s recent annual meeting, has been visiting the venue since she married Robin in 1980 and is delighted to carry on where he left off, saying the role would be an honour and pleasure.

“It is something we always did together – bringing the children to plays and pantos, and coming ourselves to see other events including the summer seasons. It is such a friendly place, the standard of productions are so high.

Her late husband Lord Walpole died in May 2021, aged 82, after 48 years in the role. Now his widow Laurel has succeeded him – ensuring the Walpoles, who have taken part in Norfolk public life since the time of Britain’s first Prime Minister Sir Robert 300 years ago, complete their half century leading and supporting the theatre.

“I have been a theatre goer all my life, visiting the local theatre in Swindon as a child with my parents, enjoying student trips to Stratford, and going to ballet in London when I worked at the University of Reading.

www.rosevillapublications.co.uk

Robin was also instrumental in securing the services of West End farce legend Brian Rix for an earlier fundraising drive. He stayed at their home Mannington Hall overnight and “not being used to country life, brought his own hot water bottle!” she recalled.

Lady Walpole said while the Little Theatre was a “success story” it still needed financial help as it recovered from the Covid pandemic, and she would help the latest fundraising drive. Collections in memory of Lord Walpole have raised around £1000 for Little Theatre funds.

Among her memories of the theatre are when it had no bar of its own – so the audience popped across the road to the Robin Hood pub for interval drinks and had to be summoned back by a theatre helper ringing a bell.

“I love all live theatre and look forward to trying to encourage and enthuse others to visit the Little Theatre to sample it themselves if they’ve never been. The size and intimacy of the auditorium makes you feel really involved in live productions there – more so than big city theatres.“

Lady Walpole with a portrait of Lord Walpole at Mannington Hall Credit: Richard Batson / SLT)

At the AGM theatre chairman Richard Ellis praised Lord Walpole for his “extraordinary service not just as a figurehead but a hard-working and active supporter of the theatre.”

He told the meeting that after three challenging Covid-hit years, the theatre, unlike some arts venues, had survived - but would be even more reliant on community support going forward, including new drives to find volunteers, sponsors, and fundraising opportunities.

Surgical and Non-surgical options for buttock enhancement

&NQM PZNFOU

If you desire a full, shapely and lifted bottom or dislike cellulite, dimpling or volume loss and sagging due to ageing, weight loss or genetics then we have several options available for you.

' BNJ M Z

Until now the only available option was implants or fat transfer. Recently however new technology has become available that allows us to do this non-surgically.

Here is a list of available options at the Coltishall Clinic.

1. Liposuction and fat transfer. We can sculpt your waist by liposuction and inject fat in the buttocks. So we take fat from where you do not want it and move it to where you want it. Large volume fat transfer into muscles is not carried out but we place small amount just under skin to add volume, reduce cellulite and provide a lift.

3. Electromagnetic muscle stimulation. This painless, enjoyable procedure (that may make you giggle!) allows muscle toning and true non-surgical lifting by increasing muscle fibres in glutes- the main muscles that form bulk of the buttocks.

4. Sculptra or Lanluma bum lift. These are injectable products that stimulate your body’s own collagen giving a dramatic plumping affect. Lanluma injections help to add volume to buttock area and also improve the appearance of skin by reducing indentations and smoothing cellulite.

Berry Delicious!

There really is nothing more comforting and delicious than a home baked cake. We serve them up regularly at the Community Café and I am always surprised and delighted by the reaction of people who clearly haven’t had a home baked cake for a while! This is a new

variation on my traybake recipe, using fresh fruit for a change and with the addition of some interesting texture from the coconut. I like to bake this in a loaf tin as it makes it easier to slice, and it is an easy all in one cake to make – no difficult steps here! We road tested this at the Film Festival, and it was very popular, so it will be a regular feature now in our repertoire.

Blueberry, Coconut and Almond Cake 8 oz self-raising flour, sifted 6 oz caster sugar 6 oz butter/marg (I use Clover)

2.5 oz desiccated coconut 3 eggs 3 tblsp milk 2 tsp almond essence 1 small punnet fresh blueberries

Place all ingredients in a large bowl and beat together until smooth. Carefully stir in the blueberries and pour into a greased and lined 2lb loaf tin. Place in a preheated oven on 180° degrees for 40 mins, or until a skewer inserted into the middle comes out clean. Turn out onto a wire cooling rack and serve once cold. Will keep for 4 days in an airtight tin.

Pan Fried Sausage, Mushroom and Bacon in Cider

I’m always looking for quick, one pot or pan recipes. Little effort, maximum taste, and here is one that always pleases. It works with veggie sausages and if you are not partial to alcohol, apple juice will be a good substitute. If you want to add extra veggies or your own mix of spices or herbs give it a go, sage always goes well with pork and apples.

The recipe serves 4 but easily doubles, serve with a creamy mash and a little wholegrain mustard.

Ingredients 8 plump pork sausages (or veggie sausages) Oil for frying

2 medium onions, finely sliced 3-4 rashers of back bacon cut into strips 6oz chestnut mushrooms, sliced 1 heaped teaspoon of plain flour ½ pint (300ml) of chicken or veggie stock and cider or apple juice (½ and ½ of whatever you are using) 1 bay leaf (optional) or 1 teaspoon dried sage Seasoning to taste

Method Fry the sausages in a large frying pan until golden (about 15 – 20 mins. Set them aside and drain some of the oil from the pan. Add the onions and the bacon and fry for 5 mins. Sprinkle over the flour and mix well and cook for a further 2 mins whilst stirring. Pour over the stock/cider mix and bring to the boil. Add the bay leaf/sage and the sausages, check for seasoning, bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for 20 mins, add the mushrooms for the last 10 minutes of cooking. Serve and enjoy!

The Trafalgar Branch of Oddfellows in North Walsham has been organising social events and activities for a number of years now.

Now they are turning their attention to newcomers to the area and reaching out to people who may need a little help settling in.

Janet Larter and Tina Hicks, Branch Secretaries of the Trafalgar Branch, said: “Moving to a new town or city is daunting at any age, but when you relocate your entire life in later years, it can be even more difficult to find your feet. Gone are the streets and shops you knew like the back of your hand, the reassurance of friendly and supportive neighbours, and the reliable network of friends you’ve built up through the years.

The good news is that you’re not alone, says the Oddfellows. “We’re a ready-made friendship group and caring bunch of locals that can help you to feel more at home, explore the area and get to know your new neighbourhood,” added Janet.

Upcoming events organised by the Oddfellows include a Coffee Morning meet up at Ramblers, North Walsham Garden Centre on Tuesday 5th April at 10.30am

Oddfellows reach out to help North Walsham and the surrounding area newcomers forge new friendships

5. Choose your own path – if a group isn’t for you, or you struggle to find a connection, try something else. There are no expectations from anyone but yourself!

The Oddfellows has also teamed up with Clinical Psychologist Dr Jennifer Wild to create a list of hints and tips to help anyone who might feel nervous about meeting new people:

Janet Larter added: “We know that walking into a room full of people you don’t know can be daunting. But a warm welcome awaits to anyone wanting to give our friendly group a go.”

1. Choose a group that is linked to your own interests – don’t sign up for a rock-climbing class if you’re not into heights. Perhaps enjoying a coffee with an organised friendship group is a good place to start?

2. Call ahead – a telephone call with the organiser or an existing member will help alleviate your concerns, answer any questions you have and ensure someone can greet you as soon as you arrive.

3. Give yourself permission to leave after five minutes – concentrating on a short period of time is much less daunting than thinking you have to stay for an hour. By focusing on a short time limit you are putting less pressure on yourself.

4. Predict your outcomes – write a list of what you are worried about. Putting pen to paper will help you look at what’s really concerning you and help test whether or not your worries come true. Science shows us that 88% of our worries never happen.

Davy Crockett - A Bear’s Worst Friend By David Abbott

Davy Crockett “killed him a bear when he was only three” according to the song. He never did. Nor did he ever claim to have done so. But the very suggestion was not taken kindly by the big grizzly fraternity. They felt humans and Walt Disney in particular were taking liberties.

During his life he didn’t always make good career moves - especially his last when he sided with the Republicans, working mainly as a tracker.

Crockett’s life came to an end in a famous finale: the Battle of the Alamo. In March 1836 Mexican troops breached the Alamo defences and killed all 200 defenders, Crockett included. Some say he was the last man standing. If true that would have been a fitting way for him to have bowed out.

You don’t mess with these bears: 800 lbs of fur, fat and muscle. They can give you nasty stare - and if you’re unlucky you become lunch.

Born in Tennessee Crockett had a colourful life as a politician, soldier, frontiersman, huntsman and tracker. Hard to know how he found time for it all.

Crockett ’s fame lived on long after his death. One hundred and eighteen years later a Walt Disney film and song by one Fess Parker made it fashionable for kids at the time to wear an animal on their heads. Every day 5,000

Having left school and home at 13 he set out on his chequered career. Crockett tried his hand at everything from farming to manufacturing wood barrels and gunpowder, but his forte was as a professional hunter.

Crockett:”Hi, Mr Bear.” Bear: “Hello Funny Hat Man”. Crockett:”I could do with a new fur coat.” Bear:”Come on then if you think you’re hard enough.” Crockett: You got big claws. Me got big gun.” BANG.

Crockett was often in the news. In 1835 he helped save America’s seventh President, Andrew Jackson’s life after a gunman tried to assassinate him. Crockett wrestled him to the ground and disarmed the man.

Some young Californian black bears have apparently started behaving strangely approaching humans in a non-aggressive and even friendly manner. One young female walked into a school classroom and sat down with the children. Another tried to get onto a snowboard along with its user. A brain infection has been suggested as the cause. Would such behaviour have endeared them to Crockett? Probably not. Most likely he’d have shot them anyway. That’s what he did!

AND ST STORAGE ORAGE LTD LTD : 01692 500 501

Crockett’s fondness for hunting dangerous game and the tales he spun about it played a major part in making him a frontier legend. According to one yarn, he killed a bear in a hand to paw fight, stabbing it in the heart with a butcher’s knife. The bear may have begged to differ. In fact, he shot them all.

Living in them there hills Crockett got to understand bears. You can imagine the conversation:

Post-script.

NORTH NOR TH NORF NORFOLK OLK REMO REMOVALS VALS

He spent much of his life stalking grizzlies in the Tennessee woods, selling their pelts, meat and oil for profit. He claimed to have bagged 105 in seven months during the winter of 1825-26. Which didn’t exactly endear him to the local bear community (or what was left of it).

Dressed in buckskin jacket and trousers he looked the part. But the coonskin hat didn’t do him any favours. Children asked why he was wearing a squirrel on his head. Still in the end it didn’t do his image any harm and he became known as “King of the Wild Frontier”.

coonskin hats were being sold. Have you still got yours?!

Employment Law: Settlement Agreements

A settlement agreement (previously known as a comprise agreement) is a legally binding, voluntary contract between an employer and employee. The contract provides that an employee agrees not to pursue any claims against the employer in a tribunal or court in exchange for the payment of a severance sum to the employee. A settlement agreement may be appropriate where the employment relationship is continuing, but it is most common for these agreements to be entered into where the employment has terminated (or is about to do so).

Since many businesses have faced financial difficulties during the pandemic, it’s likely that the use of settlement agreements will be favoured by employers. This will give employers peace of mind as it will remove any risks of employment-related claims being brought by employees and will firmly draw a line under the employment relationship.

What should you do if your employer offers you a settlement agreement? A settlement agreement will not be valid unless the employee has received independent legal advice on the terms and effect of the settlement agreement and in particular its effect on their ability to bring a tribunal claim under the relevant legislation.

As an employee will be waiving their right to

pursue any claims, the adviser will consider whether the employee has any claims and will advise on the prospects of success of those claims, along with the potential compensation a successful claim would attract. Under most circumstances, the employer usually contributes towards the cost of receiving that advice.

settlement agreement and where appropriate have offered support in negotiations when needed.

Whilst the adviser is not required to consider whether the employee is getting a “good deal”, this is certainly something that can be discussed. If the employee wishes to negotiate for an increase in the compensation payment, this is something the adviser can undertake on their behalf.

Meet Head of Department Nicola Strefford Nicola Strefford, Head of the firm’s employment team, has over 13 years' legal experience gained in both private practice and local government. Norfolk Business Launches Charity Candle in Memory of Much Missed Phoenix

A local business, whose cruelty-free candles have been stocked by Redwings’ shops since they launched during the pandemic, has created a special edition to raise funds in memory of foal Phoenix.

Norfolk Aromas was set-up at NHS-worker Andrew Macey’s kitchen table – and he credits Redwings with turning his lockdown hobby into a business. Andrew said: “I had set up a social media account to try to sell a few of my candles and Gareth (Austin-Mills), the Retail Development Manager at Redwings, came across it and got in touch.

“He invited me to come for a visit and I just fell in love with the charity. I just thought ‘I want to work with these people. Like so many of us, I followed Phoenix’ story from the very beginning and was devastated that he couldn’t have the long and happy life we all wanted for him. I wanted to do something to honour him and his memory and so we came up with this In Loving Memory candle to raise money for

Redwings, who are not only a wonderful charity but have also been brilliant with me, and so instrumental in my fledgeling business that I really want to give something back. Phoenix’ story, which I know captured the hearts of everyone who heard about him, is on the back of every candle and all the profits made are going to Redwings to support their vital work.”

Four-month-old foal Phoenix came to the Sanctuary in August last year having been the victim of an apparent arson attack. When his extensive wounds had healed as well as they could and it became clear that they would never allow him to live a good quality of life, further intervention had to be taken.

On Tuesday 19th October, a leading veterinary surgeon from the Netherlands joined the Redwings vet team to perform what it was hoped would be a life-saving procedure at the charity’s Horse Hospital. Very sadly, Phoenix did not recover from the general anaesthetic.

Gareth said: “Every time Andrew and I spoke during that time, the very first thing he’d ask me about was how Phoenix was doing, and

www.rosevillapublications.co.uk

32

I know he was very upset to hear the news of Phoenix’ passing.

“We’re really touched by Andrew’s kind and generous gesture and hope it’ll raise some always-needed funds for us here at Redwings so that we can keep rescuing horses, ponies, mules and donkeys like Phoenix.”

Locally-made, ethically-sourced, recyclable and 100% cruelty free – all essential criteria for each item stocked - Norfolk Aroma’s candles are popular on the Redwings online shop and at its visitor centres.

Half of Omicron Grants Now Paid Out to North Norfolk Businesses

North Norfolk District Council have now paid nearly half of the Omicron Hospitality & Leisure Grant (OHLG) to all eligible business in North Norfolk

The OHLG was set up in early January to help businesses operating in the Hospitality, Leisure and Accommodation industries affected through the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, with each eligible business able to claim up to £6,000. North Norfolk was allocated over £8m, the largest for any authority in Norfolk, to support over 3,000 businesses in the sector, who continue to be affected by the economic impacts of COVID.

NNDC’s award winning Grants Team have now paid out £4.2m to 1,474 North Norfolk businesses – 52.3% of the Government allocation to 43.3% of eligible businesses in the district. It is expected the Council will

award grants over the total allocation of £8m, which will be funded by central Government, allowing the economic relief for more eligible businesses without the restriction.

As of 30 January, NNDC led national figures for paying out the most business grants in the whole country and ranked third for the total amount paid out, just behind Manchester City Council and City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council.

Hospitality & Leisure Additional Restrictions Grant (OHLARG)

Nearly 1,600 eligible businesses are still yet to apply for the grant, which has a cut-off date of Friday 18 March 2022, after which applications cannot be accepted. Payments will be made by 31st March, following the relevant fraud checks. Reminder emails have been sent to businesses encouraging them to apply. If your business is not eligible for the OHLG, it may still be eligible for the Omicron

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection

were disappointed. Billy, one of the other cats that came in with her will shortly be available. He will have been to the vets for a dental by the time you read this and, once it is confirmed that he has a clean bill of health, we will put him up for adoption. Bobby and Tiddles, the other two cats, are not yet ready to leave for new homes.

It’s been a quieter month on the homing front with just Joey and Rudey being re-homed and Flokey and Norbet reserved.

You may recall mention of Norbet and Flokey as both these cats joined us via Westover Vets. Norbet, a real character, was handed in as a stray and required surgery as a result of an old injury. Despite being on cage rest while at Westover after his operation, he escaped from the recovery pen three times. We should have called him Houdini! Flokey, another lovely lad, also required surgery for a very nasty wound on his side which required several stiches. These lovely cats will shortly be leaving us for a new home together where we know they will get all the love and attention they deserve.

If you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kitten, please ring 07880 256948 (to see if you are eligible for a voucher). This number is for vouchers only Norbet and will not be able to help with any other enquiries. The number also applies for those wishing to take advantage of our special neutering campaign. . If you are looking for a cat or kitten (or have any other queries) please give Stephanie a call on 01692 535858. Please be aware that if you are interested in giving one of our cats a home you need to contact by phone rather than by the contact form on our website,

Joey, who was estimated to be about 11 years old when he joined us last year, had been living as a stray for some time and was not in the best of condition. He also has a head tilt and some balance problems which prevented him from being able to jump up. It does not matter how long it takes us to get a cat fit and healthy, and he had been with us for quite some time, before someone came along and saw what a lovely friendly nature he had and was only too happy to offer him a home.

Rudey too was one of our older residents at 10 years old. He had been with us a little while and was the youngest of four lovely cats who had arrived when their owner could no longer care for them. They all have nice temperaments and are very friendly. Unfortunately, due to the owner’s health problems, these four lovely cats had not been receiving the best of care for quite some time and were all in very poor condition. Rudey was the first one to be made available for adoption and, again, being a lovely friendly cat and now in the very best of health, was quickly offered a new home. We had several people interested in her, but we always deal with enquiries in the order they are received so many

www.northwalsham.cats.org.uk

where a description and photograph of the cats can be seen. Stephanie does not use a computer for her cat work so there is a delay in responding to enquiries this way and as she deals with enquiries on a first come first serve policy, she may have already spoken to someone who is interested in giving the cat a home.

North Norfolk Photographic Society

North Norfolk Photographic Society members were delighted that Justin Minns made the trip all the way from Suffolk to deliver his talk in person; it had been feared the meeting would have to be held via Zoom and this was a much better experience, for Justin and for the

members. Justin is an award-winning professional landscape photographer, best known for atmospheric images of East Anglia.

Titled ‘Interesting Stuff’, the talk was accompanied by photographs that Justin had taken on his many travels – though not only from East Anglia. And it certainly was interesting stuff!

Every member present was in awe of the fabulous images, with plenty of tips on how to achieve a standout photograph and the amount of planning and thought which goes into each shot. Maybe using filters and slow shutter speeds or getting up in the small hours to get in position for sunrise!

Justin showed how the weather can really enhance an image and it was clear from the impactive photos shown that it pays to be out in all weathers. As well as seeing images from East Anglia, members enjoyed a selection from Justin’s travels to different countries, the contrasting environment of Saudi Arabia to Iceland and the

spectacular beauty of the aurora borealis. It was a fantastic evening of fabulous images.

North Norfolk Photographic Society meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month at Cley Village Hall. Information about the Club and of the programme of meetings can be found on the website www.nnps.uk

Cromer Squash Club Annual Handicap Tournament 2022

As has become the norm over the past forty years there was once again a packed balcony at Cromer Squash Club on Friday evening where a large and appreciative crowd, which included CLTSA Chairman Kelvin van Hasselt, enjoyed yet another thrilling match in a long line of classic finals in the club’s annual handicap tournament.

The tournament, which was a victim of COVID last year, was being held for the 39th time and 37 year old club champion Richard Keeble, who was not born when the first tournament was held, successfully regained the title which he had previously won in both 2011 and 2012. In 2012, playing off a handicap of 15, he just edged out Henri Paul 15-13 in the fifth game of a five game thriller and this year saw a repeat of that final as Keeble, again having to contend with a handicap of -15, was once more faced with the challenge of overcoming the all action, hard hitting style of Paul who was playing off a handicap of -6 as opposed to -8 ten years earlier.

The long established handicapping system meant that Paul, who won the tournament in 2009, went into each game with a six point advantage and in an evenly contested first game he maintained his advantage for two thirds of the game, opening up a 9-3 lead. However he was struggling to win points off his own serve unlike Keeble who won eight of the next nine points to lead 11-10 before going on to take the game 15-11.

game 15-9.

The fourth game followed a similar pattern to the first two. Paul gave himself hope as he led 5-2 but a run of six successive points gave Keeble an 8-5 lead and from then on there was only going to be one winner. Paul saved one “match ball” at 14-9 but Keeble was not to be denied his third handicap trophy as he closed out the game 15-10 to win the match 15-11, 15-11, 9-15, 1510.

In the second game Keeble pulled the handicap back at Keeble’s third title means he 4-4 and although the players draws level with Steve Mutton were evenly matched over who won three times between the next ten rallies Keeble 1998 and 2006 but he still needs then drew away at 9-9, one more to equal the record of winning six of the next eight the reigning club veterans’ points, to open up a 2-0 lead champion, John Baker who won as he won the game by the Henri Paul & Richard Keeble four times between 1984 and same 15-11 score line. 2016 The third game followed a different pattern. Paul, who had only held his After Keeble received his winner’s trophy he serve four times in the opening two games, said: “This was a tremendous match and The started to hit winners, Claw who is an experienced campaigner and never allowing Keeble more than 20 years older than me pushed me British Summer Time Facts to recover the all the way. Lost sleep is associated with higher risk of heart attacks, and the evidence seems to bear this out: hospital admissions for heart attacks increase by 25% on the Monday after springing forward, and decline by 21% after falling back.

Vikings Success as County Championships Rejuvenated After Covid

Norfolk Vikings Swimming Club had considerable success at the County Championships held for the first time since 2020 at the UEA pool, Norwich.

Psychotherapist Hypnotherapist

Leah Harris of Cromer swam 29.34 to a silver medal in the 50m freestyle. In the 100m freestyle she was down in seventh in 1:02.93 but ironically the time subsequently qualified her for the Regional Championships in the summer.

Broadland High School Year 11 student, Sophie McKee came home with two bronze medals, the 50m freestyle in 29.78 and 100m backstroke 1:16.98 respectively. It was bronze too in the 200m backstroke for 17-year-old Katy Coleman of Mundesley, when she finished in 2:44.69

Harry Hudson has also qualified for the Regionals when he scored 27.78 for the 50m butterfly although he finished in eighth position.

With seven others ahead of him, all of whom hit regional times, it provides ample evidence as to the fierce competition to what Harry and indeed Leah faced.

Ashley Jones, Chloe Jackson, George and Zak Edridge and Reuben Seaman were also Reuben Seaman a part of the team. Reuben improved his 50-butterfly time by thirteen seconds when he finished in 54.66. in the 11-year age group race.

Throughout the championships, Vikings won eight golds, five silvers and seven bronze medals.
