News from the Venue
A Note from the Editor
I hope you all enjoyed the Platinum Jubilee weekend, despite the mixed weather. Everyone certainly got into the celebratory mood, and I suspect, probably ate a little too much cake as I did!
As you will see in the magazine, there are lots more events taking place in the coming weeks with summer fetes, open gardens, fundays and many more. With improving weather (hopefully) and school holidays approaching fast, there is plenty to see and do. Keep an eye on the forthcoming events column and support your local community as we all enjoy getting back to normal after the last 2 years.
Our beaches are starting to get busier and judging by the number if RNLI reports coming through, it is worth a mention to be safe in and on the water, if you are walking on the beach, check the tide times before you set out to avoid being cut off by the tide. Visit the RNLI website rnli.org/safety for more advice on staying safe. Whatever you are up to, enjoy your June magazine. Jo – Editor. Here are the deadline dates and publishing dates for the next 3 magazines.
Month July August September
Copy deadline Tuesday 5th July Tuesday 2nd August Tuesday 30th August
Publishing date Friday 15th July Friday 12th August Friday 9th September
Even a bad day at the beach is better than a good day at work. Anon.
Wasn’t it amazing to see the town bedecked with flags and everyone coming together to enjoy the Jubilee celebrations? We celebrated in style at the Venue by putting on a Jubilee themed Community Café on the Thursday, where 70 plus people enjoyed Coronation Chicken and the official Platinum Jubilee Trifle, and then welcomed around 40 of the town’s volunteers past and present on Saturday to a delicious Jubilee themed Afternoon Tea, where they were thanked by the town Mayor Rodney Smith and MP Duncan Baker. It was a wonderful time to enjoy a relaxing tea and lovely company for a group of people who are far more used to the ones being on duty! What a super, fitting way to commemorate our Monarch who has served her country for 70 years. The Venue was also used for the Community lunch hosted by the Town Council to celebrate the Jubilee, as the weather decided to take a turn for the worse, and again around 100 people flooded in to celebrate and enjoy the barbeque, drinks and entertainment. We’re very pleased to be welcoming Holt Festival at the end of July with several events taking place at The Venue. These include the festival opening night on Wednesday 27th July when The Mike King Collective debut their new show combining soul, jazz, gospel and R&B in a high energy musical adventure, three wonderful lady writers, Hilary Boyd in conversation with Raffaela Barker on Friday 29th and the irrepressible Marian Keyes on Thursday 28th. TV presenter and antiques expert Paul Martin completes the line-up with a fascinating talk on Thursday 28th. As always, tickets for all these fabulous events and the rest of this fantastic festival can be purchased through Eventbrite via www.holtfestival.org. Keep an eye out for our upcoming great live music events at the Venue, with Jazz and Blues featuring; at only £10 a ticket, these top class live music events are a fantastic and very affordable night out. Following on from our AGM the team are ready once again to maintain, improve and generally graft hard for another year, and we are thrilled to welcome on board a new committee member, Paul Gaida, who brings with him a wealth of experience and some new fresh ideas to throw into the mix! We also have another new user group starting, this time providing Zumba at the Venue on a Monday evening starting on 20th June, welcome to the family Alex. It’s going to be an exciting summer! For more information or to get in touch call 01263 713427, email info@thevenueholt.com or check out the website, www.thevenueholt.com. Carolyn Burn, Chairperson

A Monthly Memory Swap
If you have fond, even precious, memories of growing-up and/or living in, even just visiting, Holt, why not join the new ‘Monthly Memory Swap’, on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, in the lounge/bar area of The Venue. This new event is an opportunity for people to share their memories of the Holt they know, or knew, and loved. The next ‘memory swap’ will take place on Tuesday the 21st of June, from 3.00pm – 5.00pm, over a cup of tea or coffee. Those attending are encouraged to bring along old photos (perhaps of particular streets or locations in old Holt). Sessions will also be stimulated by memories, films, and archive interviews with earlier residents, from John Jarvis’s wonderful collection. The sessions are free, and everyone is welcome to either come along and hear the memories of others or share memories of their own. If you know of anyone you think might be interested in joining us, and ‘sauntering down memory lane’, please pass this invitation on. Although free, booking for this event would be helpful but is not essential. It would just be useful to have an idea of potential numbers. To book: contact The Venue on 01263 713427 or email: info@thevenueholt.com Why not come along and swap some of your old memories for new.
Holt WI
The May WI meeting was a Platinum Jubilee special. In honour of this everyone wore a hat or a crown. There was no speaker and instead members voted unanimously for the resolution for earlier recognition and treatment of ASD and ADHD in women. This will be put forward at the annual meeting in Liverpool by the Holt representative. A delicious tea with cakes and scones was made and served by the Planning Committee and enjoyed by all. This was followed by a quiz on Royalty and then the raffle with some special prizes. The speaker next month will be Dr Stephen Gillam and he will be talking about eight generations of GP family history. Visitors are always welcome, why not come along and see what you think. Third Wednesday of the month, 2-4 pm at the Venue.

This service is for people who are over 18, living at home and require physical or practical support with daily living tasks. This includes: People with physical illness or disabilities People with learning disabilities People with mental health problems Carers How much does it cost? Norfolk Swift Response is a free service for people living in Norfolk. Contact Call Norfolk Swift Response on 0344 800 8020 and select option 1. Community alarms Some people are referred to Swifts using community alarms. These are usually pendants that you wear, so that you can reach help at the touch of a button. What will happen when Swifts arrive? The Norfolk Swift Response team will always: Show their identity cards when they visit you for the first time Be dressed in the team uniform Behave professionally and politely and respect your privacy and dignity Ensure you receive prompt, appropriate support and let you know if there is a delay With your agreement, and if appropriate, make ongoing referrals to other services and support Have your say on bus service improvements in Norfolk A consultation has been launched asking for residents’ views on bus services in Norfolk. Whether you use buses every day, or not at all, Norfolk County Council would like to know what improvements are the most important for you. With Norfolk set to be awarded almost £50m from the Department for Transport to make the county's bus services and facilities better, your views will help to decide what the money should be spent on. In October 2021 the County Council published Norfolk’s Bus Service Improvement Plan which outlines the ambitions for the next 5 years. The plan includes ideas to; simplify ticketing and journey information, cut fares for under 25s, bring in cleaner and greener buses, improve accessibility and bus stops, and make better and more frequent links between the places people live, work and shop. Norfolk County Council want to see public transport that makes it easier for people to get around and helps to keep our market towns and urban centres vibrant and accessible. Getting more people using buses and other more sustainable transport options is key to us achieving our Net Zero ambition.” The indicative offer of £49.6m for Norfolk will help to put this plan into action and the County Council is now working alongside bus operators to
shape details of what the money will be spent on. A vital part of this is understanding what is important to residents, and what will help to attract more people to choose public transport for their journeys more often. The Bus Service Improvement Plan consultation is open for seven weeks from today. (Tuesday 17 May – Tuesday 5 July) and you can take part by visiting https://norfolk.citizenspace.com/consultation/bsip/ . The questions are split into two sections and should take no more than 15 minutes to complete. Part one is about general use of buses and the barriers to people using them. Part two asks for views on the Bus Service Improvement Plan and the priorities within it. Update: 1 Million Trees for Norfolk The 1 Million Trees for Norfolk project is an ambitious initiative to work in partnership with communities, landowners, other agencies, businesses and individuals across the county to enable one million trees to be planted over five years. In the 2021/22 planting season, the 1 Million Trees team enabled nearly 45,000 trees to be planted through a range of innovative projects. Now the team is launching new initiatives to get even more trees planted in the 2022/23 planting season. New tree planting scheme for Norfolk On 30 May 2022, we launched Jubilee Trees for Norfolk, supporting the Queen’s Green Canopy – a scheme to coincide with the celebrations to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This will enable up to 40,000 more trees to be planted. Norfolk County Council are offering tree packs at 50% cost, (subsidised by DEFRA and NCC) the scheme is open to everyone. There is an application process for the scheme and tree packs will be ready for collection in the planting season between November 2022 and February 2023. Please contact: tree.planting@norfolk.guv.uk

Not the Roundabout but the… Interactive Magic Table
Age Concern North Norfolk can now offer the latest technology for interactive stimulation - the portable digital Mobii unit, (otherwise known as the Magic Table!) funded by generous donations from the Poors and Ploughlet Trust, R.C. Snelling Charitable Trust, Norfolk Community Foundation and NNDC Arts and Cultural Fund. The unit projects interactive pictures onto a table or floor mat such as a water activity (imitating the surface of water with ripples and fish that scatter with the movement of a hand); or ball games for a competitive activity. The games encourage clients, particularly people living with dementia to interact in as they are able, using movement, visual and vocal responses. The interaction is calming and relaxing as well as fun and enjoyable.
We hope to use this equipment on a regular basis within the day centre and due to its portability, Moby Dick we can use it in other venues or for other community groups. The interactive table will increase the range of resources which we are able to use in the day centre which stimulate all the senses for people with cognitive difficulties. We can also download our own pictures and more personalised content to the system, such as family pictures of clients.
We like to ensure every day at the centre is as varied and interesting as possible and if you would like to try a Taster Day yourself, please ring Alison on 01263 821188 to arrange it.
Arts Forum on Wednesday 22nd June
People can turn-up on the day, at the door, but risk not being admitted.
A discussion about the importance of art and the role of art galleries and dealers with Chris Harrison (Bircham Gallery), Adrian Hill (Adrian Hill Fine Art) and James Glennie (Art Valuer and organiser of the Holt Festival Art Prizes and exhibitions)
To book: contact The Venue on 01263 713427 or email: info@thevenueholt.com
We will be discussing the role of galleries and the importance of art for them personally and professionally as well as for society at large; what galleries are and do; the challenges and rewards of running one; how and why they each became and remain involved in the arts.
After the interval, there will be time for questions and to mingle, make new contacts, and share thoughts and ideas. Arrive at 6.30pm when the bar will be open, for a 7.00pm start The evening will finish 8.30/9.00pm-ish. Advance booking is essential as places are limited.

Making sure your property passes as you choose with a life interest trust By Emma Langley, Solicitor, Hayes + Storr. Creating a will with a life interest trust over your property allows you to ensure that your home ultimately passes to those you choose, whilst also allowing you to provide for another loved one during their lifetime. Life interest trust wills are particularly popular with couples who have children from previous relationships. They can also be useful to couples who have married later in life, and those with dependent siblings or elderly parents. What exactly is a life interest trust?
A life interest trust is an arrangement whereby your will provides for one beneficiary during their lifetime but, once that person passes away, your assets are transferred over to someone of your choosing, rather than in accordance with your lifetime beneficiary’s wishes. If you have children from an earlier relationship and a property that you purchased before meeting your current partner, you might be keen to ensure that your children ultimately benefit from your home whilst being happy for your partner to continue living there. You may also have purchased a home jointly with your new Partner, who also has children from a previous relationship, and want to ensure your respective shares pass to your own children.
As the name suggests, a life interest trust typically remains in place for the remaining life of your initial beneficiary. You can, however, create a life interest trust for a set period, such as five years, or until a certain event
occurs. If your children and your partner are of a similar age, you might not want your children to have to wait a long time before receiving their inheritance, or risk them predeceasing your partner and missing out altogether. In such a case, a set period could be sufficient to ensure that your partner does not feel rushed out of their home without your children’s inheritance becoming tied up for too long.
without that person having to manage the money or risk losing their benefits.Disadvantages of a life interest trust. Any trust arrangement does, by its nature, require a greater level of administration. Trusts can also attract complex tax rules. Before making a will with a life interest trust, you should always seek professional advice as to the various implications.
Benefits of a life interest trust
Life interest trusts afford you greater control over the distribution of your estate. If you want to ensure that your partner has access to your assets during their lifetime, you could simply leave your estate to them absolutely. However, in doing so, you also give away total control of those assets. When your partner passes away, they could leave their estate, including whatever assets they inherited from you, to someone else entirely.
For further information, please contact Emma Langley on 01263 712835 or email emma.langley@hayes-storr.com. This article is for general information only and does not constitute legal or professional advice. Please note that the law may have changed since this article was published.
Some life interest trusts are created not to save assets for children, or other loved ones, but to protect vulnerable beneficiaries. You might want to leave your estate to a sibling who is unable to manage their own finances independently, or who is in receipt of means tested benefits. “HELLO SUMMER!” Dear friends, As the longest day of the year fast approaches and the summer months slip by, I trust you are taking the time to enjoy the warmth of these longer summer days. Summer is a time to slow down, and to take time to enjoy this beautiful corner of England we are so blessed to live in. Over the years I have been converted to holidaying at home during the summer and when possible to go in search of the sunshine during the winter. There is so much to do, so much to see in our area, so much to enjoy, so much perhaps we take for granted. Living in a holiday destination for the rest of the country has its drawbacks, such as the increase of traffice and being stuck behind one of the countless caravans that take to our roads (apologies to any caravaners!) but surely we can live with that, thankful for what we have, and generous enough to want to share it with others. One of the highlights in the calendar during the summer months has to be the Holt Fetsival, which the Parish Church is once again pleased to support. This year’s main programme of music, art, poetry, conversation, and popular entertainment promises that there is something for everyone. Whatever your taste in music, be it soul, jazz, gospel, R&B, classical, rock, country, or world music, I am sure you will not be disappointed. If music is not your thing then famous faces and authors will be in conversation and the “carnival of entertainment” for all the family is not to be missed. And if that is not enough then there will be jaw dropping exhibtion of work by Craxton and Picasso ceramics plus others. I am very grateful to the Holt Festival for also supporting our own Lunch time concert series in the Parish Church. This year we will welcome Catherine Joule (soprano) with Anthony Joule (piano) to perform music by Handel, Purcell and Schubert, Novello and Rogers & Hart. We look forward to Lynne Roberts to give a concert of horn music and of course our very own Mark Jones for a patriotic organ recital. The week will end with the ever popular Fakenham Ukes. Also, during the week and sponsored by the Holt Society is a guided history walk around our wonderful Georgian town. This year’s Festival Service on Sunday 24th July at 3pm which is offered in thanksgiving for God given creativity will herald a week long celebration of the arts for all to enjoy. Our guest preacher this year is Revd Andrew Hawes who is an anglican priest and a poet and I look forward to welcoming him and indeed many to the Parish Church to enjoy this year’s summer Festival. Every blessing,
Fr. Howard

Duncan Baker News
With Easter behind us, I hope you all had a happy and pleasant family time. As many of you know my Easter was somewhat different this year, thanks to my household being the first Member of Parliament family in the country to welcome Ukrainian refugees. Anna is a 34-year-old mother from Kyiv and her son, Sviatik is 6. Both have been with us since the 3rd April and have become very much part of the family. My children adore Sviatik and he is now happily at school with them. Playing sport and especially learning to play cricket has been a highlight as it's not a main sport in Ukraine! In just a month his English has come on leaps and bounds. Anna and Sviatik have thoroughly enjoyed North Norfolk life and exploring the area. My family have enjoyed borscht, a Ukrainian traditional dish and our new family have enjoyed the delights of fish and chips and Yorkshire puddings! We have all been bowled over by such incredible kindness and generosity shown by you all. People stopping in the street to hug Anna has been so touching to see. I can’t thank you all enough – it is so appreciated.
I pledged this year to be an MP who rolled up his sleeves and got stuck into understanding the issues that constituents write to me about the West End_Layout 1 31/01/2020 19:55 Page 1 most. As such I am spending some of my home time from Parliament volunteering. I have just spent the most wonderful week at a care home just outside North Walsham, volunteering with “Abbotswood”. This is a
Glaven Caring
care home to a number of vulnerable residents with special needs. The love and care they give to keep many people safe with Down's Syndrome and a whole range of complex learning disabilities is quite remarkable. It has reinforced to me just what a phenomenal job our carers do and that their recognition and pay structure is wholly inadequate. I will be making these representations back in Parliament. My next volunteering role will be a week supporting the ambulance service in the Summer break. I enjoyed taking part in the Mammoth Marathon. I ran the half marathon as I certainly am not as fit as I was for London in October! However, I have had so many people ask me if I will run London again. Last year we raised just over £38,000 for 26 local charities. The ability to help so many of our small independent charities throughout our towns and villages has compelled me to do it all again. So, the Mammoth Half is the launch for London 2022 and my quest, once again, to raise £26,000 for 26 local North Norfolk charities. The training starts now!

From Holt Consulting Rooms Hay Fever, Allergies and Inflammation
Most of us welcome Summer – the warmer weather, brighter and longer days, and the abundance of fresh, local, seasonal foods available.
However, for many, Summer also brings the all too familiar red, itchy and runny eyes, scratchy throat, sneezes, and nasal congestion associated with hay fever. It's estimated that 1 in 4 people suffer from hay fever in the UK, that’s almost 16 million people!
Hay fever causes inflammation and may make the symptoms of other inflammatory disorders worse, such as asthma, eczema, arthritis, joint pain and other existing allergies.
In Town, on the Coast and in the Country, wherever your Norfolk home, we are your local Trusted Property Experts.
Nutritionally, there are several areas we can focus on to alleviate the symptoms of hay fever and address underlying inflammation. Firstly, it’s important to understand what is causing inflammation and identify what may be contributing. This can be done by a blood test. Your GP may use this test if they suspect an environmental allergen is responsible for your symptoms. A registered nutritionist can also organise a test to identify potential food and environmental allergies.
Focus is then on reducing inflammation by avoiding allergens (although with hay fever, this is often impossible), avoiding or decreasing foods that contribute to inflammation and increasing foods known to reduce inflammation.
Reducing foods which encourage mucous production such as dairy, whilst increasing consumption of foods with anti-inflammatory and antihistamine properties may help to improve symptoms. Avoiding or reducing sugar is also advisable, as it can increase inflammation in the body and reduces the body’s ability to repair. Aim to have lots more fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, Omega 3 fats from oily fish, walnuts and oils and spices such as turmeric and ginger, which may help to reduce inflammation.
We are able to look after your every need, from full market exposure to discreet one-off buyer introductions.
If you would like to work with a registered nutritionist, please contact Pamela Taylor at The Holt Consulting Rooms (01263 711712) or directly at Pamela@mayuretreats.co.uk

Fun and Fundraising at Funeral Comedy Drama
The death of a dad-of-four is the unlikely spark for a “sit-com” stage show heading to Sheringham Little Theatre.
Like any good funeral, the event is raising funds for a good cause – in this case the theatre, which is the base for am dram company Stage Direct staging the comedy One O’Clock from the House. But, unlike most funerals, it also opens the lid on a power battle among the daughters in the dysfunctional family as they wait to see who inherits their father’s money – plus a string of surprises in a pacey plot by Frank Vickery, which was a West End hit in the 1980s.

The Three Horseshoes, Briston
Have you been to The Three Horseshoes, Briston, recently? The owners have created a beautiful garden area for outdoor drinking and dining. A recent addition is an oak pavilion with heating and canvas sides. On a warm and sunny day this new structure provides welcome shade amongst the roses and other plants. When it turns chilly, or in the evenings, they will roll down the canvas sides and turn on heaters to provide a cosy and atmospheric space. The pavilion seats about 30 people so it makes a great space for a party or special occasion…..and the food is good too! Try the grilled steaks from Briston butchers, Duncan Jeary and Graves. Indeed, as much of the food as possible at The Three Horseshoes is sourced locally. The wine list is often commented on by customers for its interesting and reasonably priced offerings and more than just grape varietals by the glass. Beers are from Woodforde’s or The Norfolk Brewhouse which is only a few miles up the road from the pub. So why not try the Three Horseshoes? We think you will have a good time.
Director Eladio Ribeiro, a former professional actor, said: “The comedy comes from the colourful characters as they clash, a posthumous joke played on the daughters by their father - and shocks happen all the way through including at the very end.”
The show is one of series of fundraisers being staged to help its coffers recover from closure during the Covid pandemic.
Eladio added: “We are delighted to stage it as a fundraiser for the Little Theatre which is where our roots are and where we feel part of the family.”
The sisters at the heart of the sit-com action are: Margaret, a pennypinching snob (played by Imogen Bruce), Maureen, a caring, pregnant, family woman (Kerri Clarke), middle class, house-proud Miriam (Charlotte Pistorius), and impossible-to-live-with Mavis (Kristine Ceirane / Diane Evans) who has spent time in an asylum.
Other key roles in the 13-strong cast, drawn from all over North Norfolk, are Miriam’s husband Austin (Nigel Manson) and cousin Tudor (Peter Blakeley).
Stage Direct was founded in 1997 and does three shows a year. It’s next one will be The Female of the Species at the Little Theatre on November 11-12.
To see everything on offer including five newly converted and comfortable bedrooms, have a look at The Three Horseshoes website www.bristonhorseshoes.co.uk. The Three Horseshoes, West End, Briston, NR24 2HY, Tel: 01263 862312

Cream the butter, zest and sugar until light and fluffy, then add the eggs gradually until well combined. St Mary's Church, Wiveton - ‘A Church for The Future’
Wiveton Parochial Church Council (PCC) is delighted to announce that The National Lottery Heritage Fund has awarded a significant grant of £135,997 to St Mary's Church. This grant, made possible thanks to National Lottery players, together with grants from charitable trusts, generous donations from private individuals, substantial funds raised by the Friends of Wiveton Church and money from the Listed Places of Worship VAT recovery scheme, will enable the PCC to deliver its ambitious ‘Church for The Future’ project. This focuses not only on the conservation and restoration of the chancel roof, but also on an innovative activity programme of learning, interpretation and engagement.
These activities include delivering an Environmental Day Conference in the summer of 2023 to prepare and equip all churches across the Diocese of Norwich (and beyond) to respond to the climate emergency. The Bishop of Norwich will deliver the keynote address and the conference will form the centrepiece of a year-long programme of nature conservation activities including a haymaking day, a bat tracking evening, a ‘Dark Skies’ event and a churchyard survey by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust. Other project activities will include a Science and Symbolism STEM Day of learning for local schools and new interpretive signage and trails exploring the church building and the habitat and biodiversity of the churchyard.
Upon completion of this project, this beautiful medieval building will be preserved for the use and benefit of future generations, and we will have inspired other churches across the Diocese to increase their positive environmental impacts through a focused programme of nature conservation, enhancement and interpretation.

Harp Recital ‘Music for a Summer Evening’
All Saints Waterden is a beautiful little Anglo-Saxon Church, which has neither water or electricity and sits in the middle of fields outside South Creake. A thorough restoration of the church – a grade 1* listed building – was completed in 2019 and the Friends of All Saints Waterden have been helping to maintain it. The church is a unique relic of the lost medieval village of Waterden and is cherished for its architectural and historical interest – as well as its spiritual atmosphere.
With Xenia Horne, 15th July 2022, 7pm at Church of our Lady St Mary, South Creake, NR21 9LX Xenia Horne has devised a programme of harp music for a summer’s evening for the concert she is giving in aid of All Saints Waterden on 15 July.
She has chosen pieces from a wide range of musical styles to showcase the versatility of the harp, from early court music, well-loved compositions from Thais and Delibes to more contemporary music including Peter Maxwell Davies (Farewell to Stromness) and Ludivuco Einaudi (Nuvole Blanche and Come Un Fiore). Xenia will also include Irish, Welsh and Celtic traditional tunes together with her own arrangements of Gershwin and Louis Armstrong.
It continues to be a place of regular Christian worship as part of the Creakes Benefice and is open to all.
Xenia has worked internationally as a harpist, singer and composer and currently lives in Norwich. She has composed for radio and theatre, collaborating as well with Norfolk Music Hub. She has developed creative projects for people of all ages and in all settings, most recently for Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. Xenia regularly takes her harp into schools and care homes and creates pop-up performances in public spaces.
She recently developed a series of pilot workshops for children and young carers for the opera superstar Joyce diDonato’s Eden Project. This is an ambitious initiative involving a global tour of more than 45 venues across five continents with associated educational workshops. Xenia was one of two musicians selected to ! work in the United Kingdom.
Tickets for Xenia Horne’s recital are £10 from Lucy Hodges 07968209924 or lhodges@blueyonder.co.uk or at the door.

Members of the Kelling Probus Club meet for coffee and lively chat from 10.30 am on Thursday mornings at the Dales Hotel in Upper Sheringham. However on the third Thursday of the month they gather from midday to take lunch at the Dales. Lunch is followed by a presentation from a visitor or one of our members. At a recent lunch Susan Parry from Fakenham entertained members with an outstanding talk on “The Red Barn Murder Mystery of the 1850s”. Her talk engendered considerable interest and questions. An enjoyable occasion! In the past few weeks the club has suffered the loss of long term members Des Gallagher and Sid Sturgess both residing in Sheringham. These losses have recently been offset by recruiting two new members with the anticipation of further recruits. We are open to new members and anyone interested should contact Jack Broughton on 01263 479507 or Terry Penrose on 01263 588772

LASTING LASTING P POWERS OWERS OF OF ATTORNEY ATTORNEY
Why are Lasting Powers of Attorney so important?
It is a common misconception that a spouse/family member has an automatic entitlement to make decisions for you if you lose mental capacity short or long term, but that is not true. To protect you and your loved ones against a short or long term situation where your husband, wife, partner, children cannot make decisions for you, we highly recommend that you contact us to book a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT to discuss putting Lasting Powers of Attorney in place.
There are 2 different types of Lasting Powers of Attorney – one for financial and property decisions and the other for health and care decisions. Setting up Lasting Powers of Attorney can be likened to the purchase of a home insurance policy. You hope that your house won’t burn down, but if it did, then knowing that you have house insurance in place can make a real difference in putting your mind at ease.
We are all living longer and statistics show that 1 in 3 of us will develop dementia. Covid and lockdowns have made Lasting Powers of Attorney even more important, especially if you become housebound or are isolating. It is vital to release the burden from loved ones to allow them to access your money and pay for your care. Banks can freeze accounts if capability is lost, even if in joint names.
A Lasting Power of Attorney negates these issues and gives you and your loved ones peace of mind.
Please contact us to make a F R E E F I R S T A P P O I N T M E N T to discuss this further. We offer home visits at no extra cost.

Focus on Old Age Disease: Is my pet senile?
· House soiling · Anxiety, fear and phobias · Aggression and or disorientation The first step in dealing with old age behaviour changes is to resolve or control medical problems that could be causing the signs. In the short term it may be necessary to use medical Nema therapy (drugs and pheromone therapy) to help address anxiety and altered sleep/wake cycles while waiting for other medical therapy for concurrent conditions, medical therapy for CDS and behavioural modification to take effect.
Do animals develop dementia? As a result of animals living longer, we are seeing an increase in the number of age-related medical and behavioural problems. It is important to realise that old age is not a disease in itself, but is associated with a reduced ability to cope with both physical and environmental stressors. This occurs in both dogs and cats, but more research has been done on our canine companions. Many behaviour changes go unreported by the owner because they think “they are just getting old”.
It is important as an owner to report old age behavioural changes to your vet because medical conditions of virtually any organ system can affect behaviour (the nervous system, urinary tract, vision/hearing, skin, etc). On the other hand, if an owner knows their dog or cat has a medical problem they often attribute old age behaviour changes to that medical condition, but medical conditions and old age behaviour problems can develop at the same time. The identification and monitoring of diseases such as cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CDS), sensory loss and pain often relies entirely on behavioural signs. Cognitive dysfunction syndrome is a neurodegenerative disorder of senior dogs and cats that is characterised by gradual cognitive decline and increasing brain pathology. There are similarities between dogs with CDS and humans with early Alzheimer’s Disease Cognition is defined as the mental act or process by which knowledge is acquired. In the widest sense, it means knowledge, including sensation and perception.
Long term therapy consists of continued behavioural modification and enrichment, drug therapy (either to treat the CDS specifically and/or other drugs to treat concurrent diseases such as arthritis), nutritional and dietary therapy (specific prescription diets), and adjunctive therapy where necessary. Although cognitive dysfunction/senility is an incurable condition, with help and advice from your vet the condition can be managed. This will hopefully help slow the progression of the problem and give your pet a better quality of life in their old age.
Our Veterinary Nurses are able to promote Free of Charge clinics to our clients to discuss ways of helping manage Cognitive dysfunction syndrome so feel free to give us a call on 01692 407126 to book a FOC appointment with a Nurse if you have concerns.
Some signs of dementia include: · Vocalisation · Disruption in the sleep/wake cycle. · Staring at walls or standing on the wrong side of a door (the nonopening side) they are familiar with to be let through · Pacing or repetitive behaviours
Aquiring a pet is your only chance in life to choose a relative.

Fakenham Riverside Community Day - back so soon
The 2022 Fakenham Riverside Community Day is set to return on Sunday 19th June. This year the organisers are planning an exciting and fun day with the Great Fakenham Duck Race (supported by the Fakenham and District Rotary Club), the Corporate Duck Race, with ducks sponsored by local businesses and the popular Cardboard Raft Races. There will also be stalls, hot food, tea and cakes, bouncy castles, live music and more. It is set just a few hundred metres from the town centre next to the beautiful river Wensum. Entry is free. Tickets to enter the Great Fakenham Duck Race will be available on the day or can be bought in advance at the Factory Shop in the marketplace or at the Larder in Norwich Street. They cost one pound each.
Richard Crook, from Active Fakenham, which is organising the event said, “We have had some great rafts in recent years and are pleased that the Fakenham Firefighters will be entering this year for the first time – I am looking forward to seeing what they produce. Most of the rafts are creative individual efforts and the races are a lot of fun.” There will also be a special Father’s Day treat. The Fakenham Osprey Canoe Club are overseeing the water-based activities. Last year the popular event had to be postponed twice but was eventually held in September
Duck Races 2021, photo Keith Osborn
There will be a Hog Roast, Sri Lankan Street Food, stalls run by local organisations and the bouncy castles will charge a single fee for all day access. There will be strong coffee and cake for wilting adults. There is no parking or toilets at the site but there is free parking in Olivet Way (about a 10-minute walk) and local pubs and shops have agreed to allow people to use toilet facilities and public toilets are in Bridge Street. There is a short film of last year’s event available on the Active Fakenham website and social media as well as photos and videos from previous years. The event takes place at Goggs Mill Road, in the field by the bridge Active Fakenham is looking for volunteers to help with the event – if this is you, please contact Richard Crook 07887 803091 or email: richard@activefakenham.org.uk Any money raised will go towards future local Active Fakenham events and Active Fakenham is supporting Fakenham First Focus with this event.

Holt Scout Group
• Try something new • Make friends • Spend time with their children – or gain experience with young people • Do something good for their community and themselves • Keep their bodies and brains active and happy – whether by scaling mountains, sharing skills or making cups of tea
We have been very busy here at the 1st Holt Scout Group this year, with all three of our Sections learning lots about our natural environment. We have planted a hedge of over 325 young trees around our grounds which will create a wonderful new habitat for wildlife. ‘Greening Holt’ have been kind enough to instal a kestrel nest box in our car park and a solitary bee nest box in our grounds. We have also been to All Saints Church in High Kelling where we helped to create three large Bug Hotels. This has enabled our members to achieve various Environmental Conservation and Naturalist Badges as well as completing some of the requirements of the ‘Norfolk Platinum Jubilee Challenge’, which has been devised to celebrate H.M. Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee, and as a tribute to the late Duke of Edinburgh, whose own award Scheme has made such influence on so many young people’s lives. We also took part in the Districts’ ‘St George’s Parade’ and celebrations at the new Scout Ground at Aylesham.
As leaders we get to experience first-hand the joy of watching youngsters realise what they can achieve both as individuals and as members of a team. We get to give our young people ‘skills for life’ and prepare them for the things they will experience in the future. We know that we may make a huge difference to young people’s lives, while belonging to a team of like-minded people. We also learn a lot about ourselves while having fun together, realising that Scouting is good for us too. To find out more please contact us at 1stholtscouts@gmail.com
Our members have been learning about our founder Robert, Lord BadenPowell; some basic map reading and about other countries and their food. They have learnt about our town and its history as well as learning about disability awareness. They have completed many other tasks including making natural bird feeders and how to make and race ‘veggie cars’. They have done some basic orienteering, made cookers out of tin cans, and played Dungeons and Dragons.
We have visited to St Andrew’s Church in Holt, where our Beavers learned about bell ringing. The Cubs have created a wormery while completing their Naturalists Badge, while the Scouts have been preparing for the warmer weather and their upcoming camps. Some of them will be attending the Kent International Scout Jamboree during the summer holidays along with thousands of other Scouts from across the world. There are also plans to visit our local police and fire stations, the lifeboat station at Wells, as well as Holt Country Park and Blickling Hall estate.
During the period of time that we were forced to close due to the pandemic our toilet facilities have been refurbished and the whole building was redecorated. We have had a new extension built at our Headquarters to give us a bit more room to store equipment as it is our Group Scout Leaders mission to clear everything from our main hall so that it is free of clutter and therefore better for all of our activities.
Building bug hotels at High Kelling
We are now in a position to increase our numbers, especially in the older sections, but to do so we need to increase our team of adults who provide all this fun to our members. Scouting is a fantastic way for adults to volunteer, whether it is because they want to:

Some soldiers return home from war. Claudio & Hero fall madly in love whilst Beatrice and Benedick can’t stand each other! Can Dogberry, the well-meaning but rather foolish town constable, solve everything in time for a happy ending? Or is he about to make things a whole lot worse?
At Half Cut we believe theatre should be available for everyone so we do not set ticket prices in advance. It works like this: reserve your place for free at halfcuttheatre.co.uk/ book, come along to the performance (don’t forget your chair or picnic rug!) and then Pay What You Decide by cash or contactless card after the show (the performance will last for 75 minutes). Our shows are full of music, songs, silliness, plenty of heart and, most importantly, laughs! Finally, the bar and kitchen The Kings Head will of course be open making this a pub garden experience like no other what’s not to like?! See you there!

News from Holt Lowes
generally very placed, and they soon settled in. As cattle and ponies tackle the vegetation in different ways having both on the Lowes enhances their effect and is all part of the management designed to keep the heathland open. The Trustees have organised some more free guided walks for the summer, on Saturday 2 July at 10.30 am and Wednesday 17 August, also at 10.30 am Walks will last around 90 minutes (weather permitting). Meet at the small car park at Mackey’s Hill (just off the Hempstead Road, about 100 yards beyond the industrial estate, but on the opposite side of the road). Wear sturdy footwear. There is no need to book.
Over the winter months, as usual, management work has been taking place on Holt Lowes. The Norfolk Wildlife Trust have been using heavy machinery to clear some of the areas of rank gorse, birch and pine. This can look a little alarming when it is first done, as the vegetation is stripped right down, but only a small percentage of the total area is cut each winter and the heathland plants quickly grow back (all too quickly in some cases). Winter cutting as been taking place for over 25 years in order to maintain the open heathland - if there was no management, the heathland, which is an internationally rare habitat, would quickly turn into birch and pine woodland. If you go further back in time, the open heath was maintained by fires - mostly started by careless smokers or deliberately by local lads! Go even further back and open heathland was maintained by the poor of the parish cutting gorse and heather for domestic fires and to feed livestock and collecting bracken as animal bedding.
In another new development the Trustees are installing a set of information boards. These will give details of the Lowes, its history and its wildlife. There will also be signs to mark the Lowes’ boundary, as we feel that it is important to establish our location and our very different role to that of Holt Country Park. With the ever-increasing number of people living in and around Holt, we have a responsibility to make sure that the uniqueness of the Lowes is maintained, both for the benefit of wildlife and and for people. Visitor are asked to keep dogs under close control at all times (the Lowes is not the place to let dogs run wild!) and to keep dogs on a short lead from 1 April to 31 July in order to prevent disturbance to ground-nesting birds, some of which are specially protected. We hope that everyone will understand and help to keep Holt Lowes a very special place.
As well as the heavy-duty work, two groups of volunteers have been at work on the Lowes. Groups of Gresham’s pupils have been working at cutting down pine saplings, and a new volunteer group organised by the Trustees has been meeting once a month and working to very good effect at controlling invading scrub. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has taken part and if anyone is interested in joining in please do get in touch. As spring approached four ‘Park’ cattle joined the resident herd of Dartmoor ponies on the Lowes. Despite their imposing size, the cattle are

Keyboard Wizard Wows Live Music Lovers at Briston!
Once again, it was a great night of live entertainment when keyboard wizard Pete Shaw wove his musical magic for the large audience at the Copeman Centre, Briston, on Friday May 6th. Using his amazingly complicated set-up of a keyboard, a large digital arranger piano, and a set of bass pedals, coupled to a superb Bose sound system, Pete played music to suit all tastes - from Barry Manilow's rhythmic 'Copacabana' to Schubert's 'Ave Maria', a 28-minute medley of over 50 film and musical hits, the 'Thunderbirds March', and ending up with the rousing theme to '633 Sqaudron' complete with air-raid sirens!
He is the UK demonstrator for the amazing range of Korg keyboards, and he certainly showed them off to perfection - and he has a pretty amazing singing voice too - his rendition of Ed Sheeran's latest hit 'The Joker and the Queen' was absolutely superb!
Pit Stop brings men together through informal activities and conversation to build social connection, friendship and a sense of belonging.

The Urban Birder- David Lindo in Conversation with NWT’s Nick Acheson
On Monday 20th June- The Urban birder - David Lindo will visit NWT Cley Marshes to talk about his mission to engage city folk around the world with the environment through the medium of birds. David is a broadcaster, writer, naturalist, photographer, public speaker and tour leader. Born and raised in London, David says: “I love anything nature, but for as long as I can remember birds have been my particular obsession. It’s amazing what you can see when you look up; birds of prey, swirling swifts, migrating thrushes, raucous crows. I spend my time doing as much as I can to promote the appreciation and conservation of the birds that share our city lives. I am thrilled to be visiting Cley Marshes in June to talk about this mission” Clare Whitelegg Engagement Officer at NWT Cley Marshes says ‘We are very much looking forward to David’s visit. At NWT we are also passionate about engaging people with nature through a whole range of activities including on our urban sites” Tickets available here: Photo courtesy of Russell Spencer http://nwtru.st/Eventbrite

Langham Dome Museum is Finally Open for the 2022 Season!
Things seemed to go more smoothly this season with none of the horrid Covid restrictions haunting us at every turn. We’re still very aware that Covid is with us, so we are still recommending face coverings inside the Dome as we have no ventilation and very little air-circulation. We are also restricting the visitor numbers inside to no more than 30 at one time. We had an exciting start with John Travolta being in North Norfolk to make a short film called The Shepherd which was being shot at West Raynham. We tried REALLY hard to get him to visit, but without success! Apparently, Frederick Forsyth's novel may have had RAF Langham in mind as the base that the lost Vampire jet flew out of in 1957?! One of our Trustees, John Clark, thought that it was important to show support for the brave people of the Ukraine. So we are, as are many others, flying the Ukrainian flag at the Dome to remind us all of the tragedy that continues in that beautiful country We had a visit from a very interesting lady, Helen Tempest, who is a famous Wing-Walker, formerly with AeroSuperBatics! She was a guest of our Vice-Chairman and Trustee Henry Labouchere, who is well known in the area and is very often seen flying through the skies of North Norfolk in his wonderful yellow Tiger Moth! He brought her along to introduce her to the fascinating history of The Langham Dome. The Dome was the destination for another group of Classic Cars, this time from Cromer. It was National Ride-It Day, when classic car owners are encouraged to get their beautiful vehicles out onto the road and enjoy the sunshine (hopefully!). They spent a lovely time both inside the Dome and drinking coffee under the Spitfire in the Memorial Gardens. Our large easy access car park makes it a popular site for rides out. The Dome has finally been redecorated and is looking quite resplendent in its new grey livery!
Don’t forget that we are running our Grand Cash Draw this season. First Prize is £500, Second Prize £250, Third Prize £100, Fourth and Fifth Prizes are both £50. Please help support The Dome, our and your unique historical building, by buying tickets and be in with a chance of winning some cash! Tickets are available from the Dome and Jacqueline’s Shoe Shop, High St, Sheringham. Please email me at manager@ langhamdome.org if you would like to buy online. Thank you and Good Luck!!!!!

Support for Marathon
Ballet at the Venue
Dear Jo, On Saturday 14th May a very large gathering of ladies and gentlemen got together for the “mighty hike” to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. One of these was my sister Jeanne Smith who is a survivor of breast cancer. She is in her 75th year and decided she was going to do the full 26 miles! A great challenge for her & many others. I am proud to say she completed it on a very hot day and a heavy backpack & sore hip!!! Cromer to Holkham what an achievement, she has raised over £2,200 on her own from very generous donations. Please give her a very big mention in all your free papers this is such a worthy cause and what a star! Thankyou, Sally Davis (her sister).
Dear Jo, For the last several months I have been attending the filmed ballet and opera performances from the Royal Opera House (at a fraction of the cost) which have taken place on a Sunday afternoon at 2.30 pm. at The Venue in spacious, comfortable surroundings. Usually only about five people have attended (Sunday - 8th May all records broken as eight attended). Why is this? Lack of desire for culture in Holt and surrounding villages? People prefer to go elsewhere when weather is fine? Would they prefer to turn out in evenings or weekdays? Inadequate publicity in that many people are unaware of the existence of such a wonderful facility right on their doorstep? Events are always published in The Holt Chronicle. Films are shown on last Wednesdays of the month at 2.30 and 7.30. If people don't support this enterprise we will lose it as it won't be financially viable to continue. Sylvia Levete
Stamps for Charity
Dear Jo, Could you ask readers of the Sheringham Independent/Holt Chronicle to save their stamps again for me so I can sort them and send them to various charities who need them to help with fundraising. Thank you to those who have sent them to me so far. Please would you also make sure you put enough postage on the envelopes when sending them to me otherwise I end up paying the handling fee. You can send stamps to: Jayne Manning 111 Mill Road, Cromer, Norfolk. NR27 0AD.
Marathon for Macmillan
The team at Henleys Estate Agents are very proud to have completed a full walking marathon of 26.2 miles on May 14th from Cromer to Holkham in aid of Macmillan Cancer Nurses. The team of Pamela Jonas, Charlotte Copeman and directors Jeff & Annie Cox completed the marathon in very hot conditions. Annie comments “It was tough going especially along the 4 miles of shingle bank at Salthouse and the last 4 miles to the finish at Holkham Hall felt like 40 miles! The heat also took its toll, but we all found inner strength and willpower to complete the walk in a good time.” Jeff adds “We had trained very hard for the occasion, but we hit various “walls” along our journey, and we all suffered from the heat, injuries and fatigue. I am so proud of my team, and we’ve raised thousands of pounds for our favourite charity. We want to thank everyone who supported and sponsored us for such a fantastic cause.”
New Discovery Trail in Glandford
A further Trail of Discovery is being launched by the Glaven Valley Arts Society - for children aged 8 to 12 (but really for people of all ages). The trail is at St. Martin’s Church, Glandford and can be easily combined with a trip next door to the Shell Museum. The aim is to encourage children to explore the church building, to learn about it and to enjoy the experience. The style of the trail is similar to that adopted for the trail of discovery at St. Margaret’s Church, Cley-next-the-Sea, just a mile away. Fourteen questions cover some very interesting features of St. Martin’s church including artistic features of the font, altar, pulpit, and stained-glass windows. There are challenges to find the clues left by two master wood carvers who were part of the team of craftsmen builders and questions about the bench depicting the faithful dog of Sir Alfred Jodrell, owner of nearby Bayfield Hall who was responsible for restoring the Church in late Victorian times. There is an answer sheet which provides interesting supplementary information. Details of the trail can be found at : theartssocietyglavenvalley.org.uk/Other Activities/Trails/aspx Paper copies are now on Display at St. Martin’s with kind permission of the vicar.

Project launches to support Norfolk's coastal communities care for their environment Free environmental workshops and project grants available for local communities to enable action.
Workshops are free, booking essential. For more details or to book visit: www.norfolkwildlifetrust.org.uk/riverandcoastworkshops Norfolk Coast Partnership is also offering grants from £250-£2,500 to organisations across the coast who have a nature-based project that will deliver environmental impact for the AONB. Visit norfolkcoastaonb.org.uk/project/resilient-coast for more information. Councillor Andrew Jamieson, Chair of Norfolk Coast Partnership, said: “These workshops and the associated small grants will help people living on our beautiful coast create projects which will see nature recovery made a reality. The project is aimed at helping people at a very local level make changes which will have a positive impact for years to come. I would encourage as many people as possible to come to the workshops and consider putting in a relevant application for a project grant.”
The Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is a designated landscape of remarkable natural beauty, under intense environmental pressure, including climate change. The Resilient Coast Project is a project of education, empowerment, and action across the AONB, run by the Norfolk Coast Partnership (NCP).
Funded by the Green Recovery Challenge Fund, this project supports communities to take immediate action to connect, maintain and improve their local environment, and to plan future improvements. This project aims to create engaged communities and a much more integrated area, actively managed for nature and with increased resilience all along the coast. Project objectives are: · Empowered and engaged communities · Support for local nature initiatives · Improved connectivity within and between communities · Improved evidence, data collection and recording
Gemma Walker, Senior Community Engagement Officer, Norfolk Wildlife Trust, said: “The Norfolk coast is one the most biodiverse areas in the UK. As well as protecting wildlife on nature reserves, it is vital that we work together with our communities to protect and restore the wider natural landscape. We are very pleased to be working with the Norfolk Coast Partnership through this series of wildlife workshops, aimed at helping our coastal communities develop skills and knowledge in how to manage areas for wildlife.”
The project kicked off with a launch event and day of free, guided, species ID walks at NWT Cley Marshes Visitor Centre on May 28th. Following this, an extensive series of free environmental workshops will be delivered by Norfolk Wildlife Trust for communities along the coast.

North Norfolk Railway Receives The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service
academy and community hub based in South Wales, and a food bank in Greater London feeding vulnerable individuals and providing training opportunities.
Volunteers at the North Norfolk Railway which runs magnificently restored steam and heritage diesel trains between Sheringham and Holt have just been awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.
Representatives of the railway will receive the award crystal and certificate from The Lady Dannatt, MBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk later this summer. In addition, two volunteers from the line will attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May 2023 along with other recipients of this year’s Award. Hugh Harkett, Managing Director, said ‘We are very proud to receive this Award, our volunteers really are the life blood of the Railway, and we are continually thankful for their dedication and support. The North Norfolk Railway is a not-for-profit enterprise, so the support of volunteers is really crucial to our survival and we are delighted that the fantastic contribution they make has been recognised in this way. He added, “The railway is always looking for new volunteers and we have a Volunteer Showcase this Saturday for potential new recruits where they can see how the Railway runs and have the opportunity to talk to experienced volunteers about how they can get involved.”
The railway operates along 5½ miles of restored track from Sheringham to Weybourne and Holt with almost all the tasks necessary to run the trains being carried out by a team of around 300 dedicated volunteers. The line is one of the county’s most popular tourist attractions, welcoming around 165,000 passengers per annum with steam trains running daily from April to October.
The North Norfolk Railway is one of 244 local charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the prestigious award this year. Their work, along with others from across the UK, reminds us of all the ways in which fantastic volunteers are contributing to their local communities and working to make life better for those around them. The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service aims to recognise outstanding work by local volunteer groups to benefit their communities. It was created in 2002 to celebrate The Queen’s Golden Jubilee. Recipients are announced each year on 2nd June, the anniversary of The Queen’s Coronation. Award winners this year are wonderfully diverse. They include volunteer groups from across the UK, including: a rural support group for farmers in Shropshire; a community magazine addressing isolation in the Western Isles; a running club engaging all ages in County Tyrone; a film
Those interested in attending on Saturday June 4 are asked to get in touch with the Railway by email via enquiries@nnrailway.co.uk or by phone by 01632 820800, option 4 then 1. The Railway is particularly looking for volunteers to help with welcoming visitors and inspecting tickets, assisting in the gift shops and buffets and also helping run the ever-popular dining trains. Full details of the event and the North Norfolk Railway’s daily services can be found at www.nnrailway.co.uk.

HM The Queen ‘Touched’ by Miracle Foal Named in Her Honour
almost two months old now, and he and his mum, and two other mares who came into Redwings’ care whilst in foal and went on to have beautiful babies, are the faces of Redwings’ summer fundraising appeal. HM The Queen was ‘touched’ by Redwings’ naming of miracle foal ‘Monarch’, in honour of her Platinum Jubilee. The charity wrote to Her Majesty to inform her of the arrival of the colt in April, born safe and healthy to his mother ‘Majesty’ who had been involved in a road accident whilst pregnant. A letter from Buckingham Palace reads: “The Queen has asked me to thank you for your recent letter in which you informed Her Majesty of the birth of a colt foal at Redwings Horse Sanctuary in April, which has been named ‘Monarch’ to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. “Her Majesty is touched by this gesture as well as your kind words of congratulations, and I am to thank you for your thoughtfulness in writing to After such a long wait (due to covid) Holt and District Probus Club were very her as you did. “This letter comes to you, and to all at Redwings Horse happy to meet again on Thursday, 5th May for a delightful meal and a lot of Sanctuary, with The Queen’s warm good wishes.” Lynn Cutress, chief execugood company! tive of Redwings, said: “We’re thrilled to have received this letter from BuckArrangements had been made for the club to meet at The Lawns as the ingham Palace. A guide to minimally invasive facial cosmetic procedures. Turn back time and see visible results. The time machine procedures.
There has been a tremendous growth in non-surgical procedures which include injectables, lasers and light and energy-based devices. These provide impressive, natural looking results and have a beneficial effect on skin health. If the effects of ageing, sun-exposure or smoking have taken a toll then your only option may be to go under the knife. This may specially be true if you have tried non-surgical procedures but were not satisfied by the results. Modern advancements in anaesthesia and technology allow us to offer gentle procedures. What is also known as minimally invasive surgical procedure and recovery from these procedures is usually pretty quick within a matter of days. You can think about these as a bit more than non-invasive procedures but not as invasive as a major surgery under general anaesthesia. Here we provide a list of some of these procedures and a brief introduction of what is involved and what they achieve. Laser facelift is suitable for patients who do not have too much lose skin. $@''()$''& J4O&IE 8; F$ @>S 7L<1BL&>$$#F <!<@I LFJ $ LF$SI- $ O 15 :6$S "D.N%=S QSA GG.?= S ?99.HH%"SH?S CM 2.HQS %G?H,%D AQS 2%D?H,%D AQS RS 0.=SH.+,H%=.=+S G%DS .A?GM H.?=S G%DS, .DSD%9?N 2S G%DSH HK??SD%9?N 3S ?9A2%P.?=S 2%=".=+S SA,?H?D%/MN%= H.?=S ?2%G S 2%9.G,SD%9?N 2S S 2 G%DSG0.=SD%GMD* .=+S . 2S ?=H?MD.=+S S N?2M9.G.=+S S S 2HD G?M="S ?"QS ?=H?MD.=+S %S ="S ?"QS ?G9%H. This is a procedure to provide a tighter, well-defined jawline and upper neck. Laser liposuction is the best option to get rid of double chin and excess fat in areas of chin, cheeks, neck and jowls. Again, there is no knife involved and it is a minimally invasive procedure. Minimally invasive facial cosmetic surgery this may involve small incision mini brow lift, laser blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery. A lip lift which is a small procedure that provides profound results or indeed a mini facelift carried out under local anaesthesia to remove excess facial and neck skin and tighten the underlying muscle layer to provide long lasting results. Mini-brow lift. This procedure involves 2 incisions on either side of forehead just inside the hair line to lift the outer brows. This is an area that often sags with ageing and facial volume loss. A full brow lift involves longer incision but mini brow lift avoids a long scar. Often the hair growth will make the scar barely perceptible. Blepharoplasty. This involves removal of excess upper eyelid skin to allow youthful look to the eyes. We use a precise laser beam to remove the skin minimising bleeding or bruising. Lip lift. The upper lip lengthens and lips shrink due to loss of volume. If you do lip fillers they often provide an unnatural look. A better solution is to reduce the lip length allowing more of the red lip to show. One stitch facelift. It is a brief procedure performed totally under a local anaesthetic. Neck lift. Here a tiny incision is made in the chin crease and underlying neck muscles are tightened. This can also be combined with neck liposuction or mini-facelift surgery. Fat transfer. Also known as 3D facelift, the process requires gentle fat removal using limited liposuction. The fat cells are then purified and slowly injected. Tiny droplets are placed throughout the tissues assuring that each transferred fat cell will have an adequate blood supply to achieve the permanent survival of the injected fat cells. It provides a natural looking facelift and improves skin quality. Ear lobe surgery. This is carried out to repair torn or stretched earlobes and also to reduce enlarged or elongated earlobes that can be reduced to provide natural contours. Of course we also offer minor surgical procedures such as removal of moles, cysts, lipomas etc. Call us on 01603 736487 or log on the website www.coltishallclinic.co.uk

Jubilee Joy
And, to round off the afternoon, we were treated to a delicious afternoon tea – lots of sandwiches and cakes (the staple diet for the Jubilee?) - all provided and served by our hard-working catering team. This was followed by a speech by the chairman who then led us all in a heart-felt toast to the Queen. Finally, we all joined in a rousing rendering of the National Anthem.
70 years is a long time; your bowls club is only half as old – 35 years, with less than half a handful of remaining founding members. So it was with gratitude that over fifty members and guests gathered at the green for an afternoon of fun and games to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. The bowling itself was not so much a case of serious competition, more a case of playing ten ends while trying to understand the unusual house rules.
Barry Pilgrim
Those who came to the event were required to contribute food bank items in addition to the more normal unit of currency. As a result, the Sheringham Food Bank, our main charity for this afternoon, benefitted from several large crates of consumables. Another charity – the National Visually Impaired Bowling Association - profited from the “ spider”. This was a one bowl competition, with all those present bowling at the same time to the solitary jack in the middle of the green. Congratulations to Marion Thorne whose bright orange bowl finished the nearest and won the bottle of champagne.

Competitions provided opportunity for real imagination. Best table decoration was won by a visitor, Ann Pegg, with a charming collection of wildflowers in a jam jar, and the best dressed hat by Ray Painter with a titfer that would glorify any gentleman of the road. Trevor Wright cleverly guessed the right number of sweets in the jar and kindly donated them to the children present. And, of course, there were various prizes, including a wooden spoon, to the bowling efforts on the green.

Have A Great Summer With Blakeney Rowing Club
The summer season of rowing is well under way in Blakeney with members and guests enjoying the frequent outings. Evidence of the fun to be gained from skiff rowing can be found on the club web site at crablakeney.wordpress.com. See some great pictures there of people enjoying the social rows by meeting up to go either to Cley or towards Blakeney Point. I’m writing this article just after a really active Jubilee weekend on the water and those events can be seen on the web site also. At the time of writing, rowers are looking forward to the morning expedition on Friday 17th June. After an early outing, a full breakfast will be enjoyed, by two crews, in The King’s Arms, Blakeney. What a great way to start the day!
After a very creditable performance in the Brightlingsea Gig Festival in May, there are other events to look forward to. Crews are currently anticipating the King’s Lynn Hanse Regatta, on the River Ouse, which has brought the club considerable success in recent years. Saturday 2nd July will see the Round Canvey Island Race which attracts crews from many clubs. These are just a few of the opportunities for friendly competition which Blakeney Rowing Club offers.
It has been a real pleasure this year to welcome so many people who have come along to the Blakeney Carnser to try rowing. Why not get in touch with the club to try skiff rowing for yourselves? There is no obligation to compete. The social rows provide great exercise; they are also hugely enjoyable. If you want to know more, contact club captain Humphrey at hborgnis@icloud.com to arrange a trial row. Beginners and returning rowers are always welcome to contact the club. Remember, you can keep up with the club’s activities on Instagram, on Facebook and on the club notice board on the Carnser.

From Holt Holistic Centre
Hello, my name is Michelle and I’m a Foot health practitioner working in the North Norfolk area. I’d like to just let you know that on Monday afternoons I am joining the great team at Holt Holistic Centre, 10 Station Road, Holt and I will be running a Foot health clinic for anyone in need of Footcare.
Can I just take a moment to highlight why you might need my services, firstly foot health checks help to diagnose conditions and treat them at the initial phase reducing risks and minimising the spread of possible infections. Our feet carry the full weight of our bodies and play a vital part in our daily activities, we often overlook our foot health but why? They are so important to us. Having problem feet could be affecting your mobility or make it uncomfortable to wear certain footwear or play sports. Maintaining a good foot health can make you more mobile! These regular checks help those with diabetes treat and control any possible damage caused by poor circulation. The weather changes so often and some people feel self-conscious when not being able to go barefoot, wear open toe shoes but treatments for athletes’ foot or dry and cracked heels is easy with the assistance of myself. I offer the full range of maintenance needed from nail trimming, corn removal, callus and verruca treatment as well as diabetic foot care. If you need my help and would like to come and see me, please do make an appointment. For your peace of mind, I am qualified, fully insured and DBS checked. I do look forward to meeting you. I can be contacted on 07791 9450999 Michelle Geere, Foot Health Practitioner.
Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather. John Ruskin

Case Study: Making a Lasting Power of Attorney after a Diagnosis of Dementia
There are two different types of Lasting Powers of Attorney. One relates to 'Property and Financial Affairs' and the other relates to 'Health and Welfare'. Both Lasting Powers of Attorney appoint trusted people (attorneys) to act on a person's behalf should they lose the mental capacity to make decisions for themselves regarding financial matters or general welfare.
understand the nature and implications of the power they are giving to their attorneys.
In this instance, as Michael is in the early stages of dementia he is still in a position where he is able to make a Lasting Power of Attorney. Therefore, Emily encourages him to make an appointment with a legal professional to start the process as soon as possible.
A Health and Welfare Lasting Power of Attorney appoints attorneys to make decisions regarding where you should live, day-to-day care, and whether to consent or refuse consent to medical treatment on a person's behalf.
When attending the initial appointment with the solicitor, Michael is able to bring Emily with him for support and to settle any nerves. However, the solicitor will ask Emily to leave the room when taking Michael's instructions to ensure that these are Michael's own instructions and that he is not being unduly influenced in any way. During this initial appointment the solicitor will ensure that Michael understands his options, the responsibility and power that he is giving to his attorneys, and how the Lasting Powers of Attorney should be used.
A person who has been diagnosed with dementia is still able to make a Lasting Power of Attorney provided they have sufficient mental capacity to
Following the initial meeting, Michael is provided with draft Lasting Powers of Attorney so he can see exactly what the documents look like and to give him the opportunity to consider whether there is anything else he would like to add. Once satisfied with the Lasting Powers of Attorney, Michael visits his solicitor for another
A Property and Financial Affairs Lasting Power of Attorney appoints attorneys to make a range of decisions about finances, including the buying and selling of property, operating a bank account, dealing with tax affairs and claiming benefits.
Case Study – Michael Michael has recently been diagnosed with dementia. Although he often shows signs of confusion and can be forgetful, his diagnosis is at the initial stage and is mainly unrecognisable. Michael's daughter Emily is concerned as Michael does not have a Lasting Power of Attorney in place; meaning, no one has the legal authority to look after his finances when he is no longer able to do this himself, or to ensure his medical and care preferences are carried out.
For individuals living with dementia at a more advanced stage than Michael, during the appointment the solicitor can assess whether the person has sufficient capacity to make a Lasting Power of Attorney. If the solicitor has concerns about a person's capacity they can ask the person's GP to assist.
appointment where they would go through the documents together ensuring that Michael fully understands the content and to answer any remaining questions he may have.
Once Michael has signed the Lasting Powers of Attorney, the attorneys are required to sign the documents to confirm they understand their responsibilities and to confirm that they accept their appointment. The solicitor sends information to the attorneys on what their responsibilities will be to assist their understanding. If they have any queries they are then able to contact the solicitor. As the Lasting Powers of Attorney cannot be used until they have been registered with the Office of the Public Guardian (the Court), Michael's solicitor deals with this as soon as the attorneys have confirmed their agreement to act and the Lasting Powers of Attorney are fully signed. The registration process takes between 6 to 8 weeks. Once this process is complete the Lasting Powers of Attorney will be ready to use as soon as they are required. Emily is therefore assured that when Michael's dementia progresses she has the legal authority in place to assist him with his finances and ensure his wishes regarding care and medical treatment are carried out.
