Clapham & Collinge ‘Spring Clean’ Legal Briefing

Neale Grearson, Partner, Head of Family and Charities Departments Why do we wait until New Year resolutions or spring to think about and make big decisions in our lives? Too busy. Scared. Other priorities. Whatever the reason we all do it! Spring is one of those traditional times to take stock. Putting off big decisions can be dangerous. And that’s particularly true with legal decisions that could affect the rest of your life or the lives of members of your family. Half of people in the country don’t have wills so on their death what happens to their assets is left to the arbitrary “intestacy” rules. Even fewer have a Lasting Power of Attorney so if they become incapable of dealing with

their own finances no-one can step in to help. One in two marriages end in divorce so pre nuptial agreements are becoming an essential part of wedding planning. Parents are lending money to children and their partners so they can buy a home and get on the property ladder but without their children thinking about what will happen if they split up. The Bank of Mum and Dad are now increasingly seeking a more commercial and less emotional approach to safeguarding financial arrangements for their children - and themselves. Life is no longer simple! People have

extended families. Receive inherited wealth. Live longer! So essential legal planning is an all the year necessity but we leave it to a Spring Clean to think about often difficult and unpalatable things. Our Spring Clean legal briefing will give people the opportunity to think about the options. And make decisions. Early. Prevention is better than cure so we will offer plenty of legal solutions to prevent bigger and worse problems happening in the future. To book your free place, please contact Andrea Smith on 01263 823398 or email ASmith@clapham-collinge.co.uk

Easter at St Margaret’s Church Thorpe Market is fast approaching

On Good Friday 19 April John Stainer’s “The Crucifixion” will be sung by Cantamus Choir augmented by other singers who enjoy singing this much-loved traditional Easter oratorio. John Stainer (1840-1901) was an English composer and organist, including at St. Pauls Cathedral, London. His oratorio ‘The Crucifixion’ is amongst the most popular of all English choral works and portrays the events of Good Friday. Scored for Tenor and Bass soloists, mixed choir and organ, this meditational oratorio contains recitatives, solos, rousing choruses and congregational hymns. The centrepiece is the evocative anthem ‘God so loved the world’. The first ever performance of this work was at Marylebone Church in 1887. It is an oratorio that has stood the test of time and has been regularly sung at churches during Passiontide. It was first sung at St. Margaret’s Thorpe Market in 1997. There is a rehearsal at 3pm led by Alan Morris with Geoffrey Hunter playing the organ. Soloists are Clive McCombie and Simon Gray. There is still time to sign-up to sing, scores available. info@thorpemarket.org.uk. The evening production takes place at 6.30pm. Please join us for this annual Good Friday event at St Margaret’s Church. Easter Sunday 21 April at 9:30 am -Traditional Easter Day Celebration In addition, the snowdrops have disappeared but the churchyard is worth a visit this Easter if churchyard conservation and wild flowers appeal. The different colours of comfrey, narcissi, cowslips and primroses are already on view and the frogs are busy in the pond.

The 'One Stitch Facelift'

Can one little stitch knock off a dozen years? What is a One Stitch Face Lift?

The idea for the procedure was prompted by an old Hollywood trick in which actresses used tape to pull slackened skin upward, taking great pains to hide the tape with hair or wigs.

A Cosmetic Surgeon practicing in Beverly Hills took the concept and developed a procedure that would accomplish the feat more permanently.

How is the procedure performed? The One Stitch Face Lift is a minimally invasive procedure offering Face Lift like results, but without the need to undergo major surgery and resultant prolonged recovery. It is a brief procedure performed totally under a local anaesthetic. We have

Many people are unaware that Arthritis takes on many different forms and types, not all are easy to diagnosis from tests or rays and may need clinical assessment to determine type and correct treatments.

modified it slightly so that instead of relying on one stitch, we use a few hidden stiches under the skin.

Most people find they are able to return to normal activities the following day, but as there may be some associated swelling or bruising with the procedure, some may find it more comfortable to take a few days to recover. What results will I see? The results are subtle but are often just enough to give patients a fresher and firmer appearance. Patients who are looking to achieve subtle results without prolonged recovery time will really benefit from this procedure.

What alternative treatments are available? You can have non-surgical treatments such as a liquid facelift. A full or modified facelift or the innovative laser facelift.

WHY CHOOSE WHY CHOOSE SILVER SILVER & WARD WARD SOLICITORS SOLICITORS in in 2019? 20 19 ?

“It’s a recurrent misconception that a larger firm is better.”

I am Clare Mayell and I own Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor. I appreciate that any time of the year can be a difficult time fo or many people to resolve legal issues of worry and concern, for example, making a will or Lasting Power of Attorney. As I have worked for 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norfolk or Norwich and I provide 22 years of expertise and exceptional service. I pride myself in being one of the only solicitors who offffers a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, so clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an informed decision. At a larger firm you just pay more. When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. I advise new clients to “shop around” as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can offer the same expertise, if not better. I have and can act for clients across Norrffolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs.

“I would say to any potential client with a legal issue or worry in 2019 to come and meet me face to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain.

Home visits can be arranged or appointments outside of office hours including Saturdays. 01263 0 1263 8 823465 23465 or email clare@silverandward.co.uk

More than 200 knives seized during police week of action More than 200 knives have been seized during a week of action aimed at reducing knife crime.

Norfolk police was one of 44 forces involved in Operation Sceptre between Monday 11 March and Sunday 17 March – a national campaign which took place to highlight the risks that carrying a blade can bring, as well as targeting offenders who use and carry knives.

During the week officers held a knife surrender initiative where members of the public were able to hand over knives at Public Enquiry Offices across the county without fear of prosecution.

A total of 237 knives were handed in, including machetes, samurai swords, daggers, hunting knives and flick knives.

Officers also carried out high visibility patrols targeting those who carry knives. There were 114 stop/searches with 26 knives seized and 11 people arrested for possession of a bladed article. Four of those have since been charged. They are :

• Aaron Evans, aged 36 and of Blickling Road in Norwich. Evans has also been charged with possession of a Class A drug.

• Jordan Drake, aged 18 and of Bulls

Lane in Gorleston.

• Kobi Simmons-Cunningham, aged 21 and from London. SimmonsCunningham has also been charged with possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and possession of cannabis.

• Peter Hallam, aged 44 and of Shipfield in Norwich.

In addition, officers conducted test purchases at local retailers in conjunction with Norfolk County Council Trading Standards. Two venues failed to ask for identification before selling large knives to someone over the age of 18 and were issued with words of advice.

Chief Superintendent Dave Marshall said "Reducing knife crime and the violence associated with it is a priority both nationally and here in Norfolk. In one week a significant amount of knives have been surrendered, preventing them from getting onto the streets of Norfolk or into the wrong hands, whilst a further 26 knives have been seized and taken off our streets.

"Only in the last few days we have seen the impact knife crime can have on communities with the stabbing of a teenage boy in Mountbatten Drive in Norwich. Investigations are ongoing but this incident highlights how

Here there be Dragons!

The ‘Inspired’ group of artists and craftspeople are planning something special for their annual exhibition at St Mary’s Church, Stalham.

The 2019 exhibition, to be held during early May Bank Holiday, will be based on the theme ‘Revelation’.

Members of the group are busy exploring this theme in many fascinating ways. So what will they come up with?

Geraldine Watson, the group’s leader, says “There’s a lot of interesting discussion including biblical

important it is to target those who carry knives to prevent it from happening again. It is also vital we continue to work with our Safer Schools Partnership to educate young people about the risks carrying a blade can bring.

"Police tactics alone will not prevent knife crime and solutions must involve action from education, health, social services and communities themselves. We all have a duty to protect our communities from harm and keep them safe.

"If you know someone who carries a knife, then please contact police. One call could help protect them or potentially save someone else’s life”

If you suspect someone is carrying a knife please call Norfolk Police on 101 or you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. Crimestoppers is an independent charity and will not take any personal details and the call cannot be traced.

dragons, horses of the apocalypse, and hidden images. You’ll have to come and see for yourself what finally appears.”

The group meets once a month in St Mary’s church room. This is no ordinary craft meeting. The ‘Inspired’ group likes to come up with something really original and meetings are often spent discussing individual projects which need input from different viewpoints.

“Working in a group like this makes you push the creative boundaries. We think outside the box, bounce ideas around and before you know it, you are tackling a project which stretches you to the limit!” says member, Ros Wilson.

“The exhibition itself is always a joy” explains Geraldine. “Alongside our ‘Revelations’ will be an extensive exhibition of quilts, also items for sale and activities. We love to get people doing crafts and there are activities for all ages.”

The dates for your diary are 4 – 7 May, from 10am - 4pm daily, (the only exceptions being from noon on the Sunday and up to noon on the Tuesday). Entry is free and there is an opportunity to win hand-crafted raffle prizes and enjoy refreshments.

Will there be dragons? Come and see!

• ‘pupils treated with dignity at all times' • A marvellous result!

All of the pupils and some of the staff of Sheringham Woodfields celebrating the school’s ‘Outstanding’ OFSTED . Photo: Chris Taylor

Exciting start to 2019 for Woodfields School

2019 for Sheringham Woodfields School has begun on a high note with an ‘Outstanding' rating from a recent OFSTED inspection, a just reward for all the hard work of staff, supporting professionals, parents, carers, and fantastic pupils.

The inspectors found in Woodfields • ‘a very supportive and caring ethos provided by highly skilled staff' • ‘relationships between staff and pupils to be a major strength' • ‘outstanding teaching, highly tailored to pupils' needs'

Woodfields is building on its success with the construction of a new Therapeutic Centre. Plans are under way - the site has already been cleared, all funding is in place, and tendering for the work is being finalised with a view to a late spring 2019 start on site.

"We are ready for the next exciting phase for our school's development." says James Stanbrook, the school's Head Teacher. "If all goes to plan and weather permitting, the centre should be built and equipped by Christmas 2019. This means we will be able to greatly increase the range of therapies for our pupils in the spring term." Currently, Sheringham Woodfields provides places for 111 children and young people who are supported by 121 members of staff. Building this centre will create another 24-30 school places helping relieve the pressure on special school places for children in Norfolk. The facilities and equipment created in this £1 million plus project will greatly improve the quality and access to important physical therapies which will include rebound therapy, physiotherapy, sensory motor programs, special yoga and other physical activities. The centre will also be available outside of school times for local families and professionals to benefit from the facilities.

Matthew Smith, School Business Manager who is leading this project comments “Unfortunately, there are bound to be a few disruptions during the scheduled 20-week build time of the project, the main one being the deliveries that will take place via Cooper Road. However, we are taking every step to ensure that there will be no clashes with the Primary School's arrival and departure times.

"We are also mindful of the effect such deliveries will have on the residents of Cooper Road, and will do our best to minimise any disruption. Parents and visitors should be aware that the construction of the new centre will require alterations to some other facilities, such as car parking, but we will keep everyone fully updated. I hope everyone concerned will bear with us as we undertake the construction of this wonderful new facility which will greatly enhance the life experiences of many of our pupils."

First highlights revealed for Holt Festival

Music, poetry and comedy in first announcements for North Norfolk’s premier arts festival

New Holt Festival artistic Director Anwen Hurt has announced the first highlights for the 2019 festival. Now in its eleventh year, it’s one of the East of England’s most anticipated events. Each July the festival sets the charming North Norfolk Georgian country town alight with performers, musicians, art exhibitions and literary events. Local audiences and cultural tourists flock to the town to enjoy the delights on offer.

The early announcements include two music stars Georgie Fame with many weeks in the charts between them. Both are appearing in the magical outdoor Theatre in the Woods venue.

Punk princess Toyah is well known these days for her TV, film and theatre acting, but it is her music that takes centre-stage in Holt. This year is her 40th as a top music draw and she’s bringing her full electric band for a special show marking that momentous achievement. The award-winning rock legend is a vibrant performer and an inextinguishable flame, charismatic, outspoken and impossible to categorise. She has amassed thirteen top 40 singles, recorded twenty-four albums – and still found time to write two books, appear in over forty stage plays, act in twenty feature films and present literally hundreds of television programmes. Toyah rocks into Holt on Friday 26 July for a 40th anniversary retrospective which will include favourite hit singles and album classics.

Georgie Fame holds the rare position of being both a popular household name and a respected musician’s musician. His Holt show is one of a very select number of UK tour dates. A true music legend, Georgie’s impressive array of

Aylsham Heritage Centre

The Heritage Centre in Aylsham is open again for the 2019 season with a brandnew exhibition called ‘Aylsham Pubs and Inns’ which looks at the history of Aylsham through the many pubs and inns which have traded in the town.

The exhibition is based on the new publication recently produced by the History Society called ‘A New History of Aylsham Public Houses’ which builds on the original research of Elizabeth Gale. There was so much interesting information in this book that a fullscale exhibition has been possible.

The exhibition details the general

history of all the 30 plus pubs which have traded in the town at one time, and links these to other aspects of the town’s history, such as the railways and the wherries and mills.

Our first Children’s events of the year start in April. If you have children who have been inspired by the Great British Sewing Bee, why not come along to the children’s sewing workshop which will teach them the basics of hand sewing and give them the opportunity to make an Easter Bunny finger puppet - £5 per child. We are very pleased to welcome back the mini – monsters on Friday 12th April – with a chance to get

hit singles include the number 1s Yeh Yeh, Get Away and The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde. He has collaborated with some of music’s most famous names, including Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, Toyah Eric Clapton, Gene Vincent and Rolling Stone Bill Wyman. In this very special and intimate evening on Saturday 27 July, audiences will be treated to Georgie’s hits and music from the artists that have influenced him - all interspersed with personal stories and anecdotes from his incredible career. Entry details for the Holt Festival Art Prize, which attracts submissions from far and wide, and a new Art Prize for young people will be announced soon. Full details at www.holtfestival.org

health and fitness are. They made a health and fitness flyer to give to each of the year 6 children and directed their attention to the government website Change4Life which has lots of good ideas. They also made a fitness DVD for the primary schools which can be used in a classroom behind a desk.

Aylsham High School offers the Edexcel Level 2 Higher Project Course as an option subject.

In previous years groups have looked at the possible legacies of hosting a sporting event, have planned, organised and led a dodgeball festival for the Aylsham Cluster year 6 primary school pupils and looked at school transition from year 6 to year 7.

This year, 5 students from year 9 decided to work as a group to focus their thoughts onto the health and fitness of year 6 primary school students.

The project class have been conducting on-line research about a variety of issues surrounding health and fitness in younger children and devising ways to increase health and fitness. They visited each of the cluster primary schools and deliver a session on what

During each school visit they led fun dodgeball games, which helped the year 6s think about a few dodgeball throwing techniques. These games were well organised and they were able to adapt their sessions to suit the size of school hall, the number of students in a class and the ability of the students.

During the year, they helped to lead sporting team challenges at a year 6 induction day and helped officiate at our year 7 inter house dodgeball competition.

Then on Tuesday 5 March , after many meetings and much preparation, they hosted the Aylsham Cluster year 6 dodgeball tournament with 80

students from 6 primary schools attending. The teams competed in a round robin tournament. Additional sports leaders from the GCSE Physical Education class helped to officiate each of the games, ensuring that the games ran smoothly. The standard of play was exceptional.

The winning teams this year were in 1st place Colby School, in 2nd place Aldborough and in 3rd place Bure Valley. Each team took away medals, trophies and certificates.

As this is the third year of the tournament, thought will go into evaluating this year’s successes to make it even better event for next year. Just one of the many activities run within the school cluster between the high school and the primary schools.

Clean sweep for Cromer students as they tidy up the town

Hundreds of students have done their bit to keep Cromer tidy as the whole school gave the town and beach a sparkling spring clean.

The Cromer Academy pupils filled dozens of black bags with litter as they blitzed the town’s beaches, streets, pier, and promenade on Friday 29 March, with year groups heading out in shifts to tackle a particular area. Amongst the plastic bottles, drinks cans, and crisp packets, they collected some more unusual litter including a frying pan and plastic cutlery tray.

The rubbish was taken back to the school where it will be collected by North Norfolk District Council for sorting and disposal.

The community clean-up was organised as part of the Great British Spring Clean, the country’s biggest ever mass-action environmental campaign, which runs from 22 March to 23 April .

Headteacher Antony Little said "Caring for our environment is especially close to our hearts at Cromer Academy, as a coastal school. We all have a duty to

Are you the kind of individual who can help care for a child that isn’t their own? Someone who can put a roof over their heads, food on their plates, and hope in their hearts?

and, let’s be honest, a sense of humour. When it comes to age or status or whether you’re retired or working you could still foster.

Whatever your walk of life, our team of Foster Carer Ambassadors can help you step up and lead you through the process. Our Skills to Foster training programme will provide you with all the need-to-know essentials, while your recruiting social worker will always be on hand to help, advise and offer invaluable pearls of wisdom.

Becoming a foster carer often turns out to be just as rewarding for you as it is for a child. In most instances, it’s you who holds the key to unlocking a child’s true potential and watching

a child mature and blossom is a lifechanging, and life-affirming, experience. “The children may be feeling lost, upset, angry, confused or sad. They need a home and an adult who will care for them – and bring some joy into their lives. Our foster carers often tell us that becoming a foster carer has been the most rewarding experience of their lives and they have lots of inspiring fostering stories to share.” Tracy Collins, Interim Head of Fostering of Norfolk County Council’s Fostering Service If you’d like to make a positive difference to a child’s life, as well as your own, why not find out more about becoming a foster carer today. What do you need to do first when someone dies? Miranda Marshallm Director, Hayes + Storr I am often asked what needs to be done as a first step when a family member or loved one dies.

Obviously, it depends on the person’s circumstances as to what are the top priorities, but it goes without saying that the first thing that needs attention is the funeral. The funeral director will deal with the arrangements, but it is worth checking the Will to see if there are any specific funeral wishes. This can be as simple as a preference for burial or cremation but often there is more detail such as where the funeral should take place, form of service, choice of hymns and music, where the remains are to scattered or interred, and sometimes very individual requests.

The death must be registered before the funeral can take place. This is usually done by a close family member at a registry office of the Norfolk County Council. There are, of course, rules. You will need to give details of their place and date of birth, their occupation and all the names, by which they (and their widow or deceased spouse) have been known,

It is important to make sure that the house is secure and insured. Sadly, burglaries do take place so it can also be a good idea to take items

of sentimental or financial value elsewhere for safekeeping. Often elderly people under-insure their house and its contents, so do check the level of cover. Sometimes the security arrangements are insufficient to meet the insurance company’s requirements, so do not overlook this. After 60 days most insurance companies impose conditions and restrict cover on empty properties. If this is a worry, we can undertake property checks and have useful local reliable contacts and knowledge.

There are then the practical matters to deal with such as ensuring that household bills continue to be paid and that the house is kept warm enough so the pipes do not freeze and burst or other problems arise.

If the person has left a Will, the solicitors holding it will need to see the death certificate and have the written authority of all the executors to release it or copies of it. An executor’s authority arises from the will and so exists immediately from the death. A Grant of Probate is often needed to “prove” that the executor(s) have the legal power to administer the estate.

If a person has died without a Will they are “intestate” and no one has authority to deal with anything until

the Grant of Letters of Administration is issued by the probate court. However, practicality must prevail and arrangements can usually be made to keep things ticking over until either the grant issues or the nearest family members entitled under the intestacy rules get matters moving.

Probate solicitors are here to help when somebody passes away. Their experience is not just in dealing with and advising on the legal process but also the practical and family side of matters. Grant boost for canal lock restoration

Work will start this summer on restoring Ebridge Lock, the best-known of the six along the North Walsham and Dilham Canal.

The project, estimated to cost up to £35,000, has been made possible thanks to a £26,000 EU LEADER grant to the North Walsham and Dilham Canal Trust which is working with the canal owners to regenerate the 19th-century waterway. The funding will cover the cost of manufacturing the top gates and ‘stop planks’, which block off the

Volunteers will carry out the restoration with some professional help and the trust is appealing for donations to cover the cost of specialist contractors, materials such as bricks for the lock walls, and equipment hire.

"The Ebridge Lock area has become a magnet for locals and tourists to walk, fish, boat or just sit since the Old Canal Company (OCC) restored the reach to Ebridge," said Trust Chairman Ivan Cane.

"However, the waters are only held back by a wall of cement bags placed at the top of the lock some 60 years ago. This grant will lead to the replacement of the bag wall with new gates - that will sustain the present level of water for people and nature, as well as being a visual reminder of the past. This will also be the first stage in the restoration of the second lock on the canal."

Bacton Wood Lock, one mile upstream, has been restored over a 10-year period by the OCC, which owns that stretch of the waterway, and volunteers.

Giving Your Consent for Data Protection

Signing up for an on-line service or entering a free competition are just a couple of examples when you might be asked to consent to your personal data to be processed. There is nothing unusual about this but under new data protection legislation there are much stricter guidelines as to how a business goes about getting your consent. Whatever the reason, if it’s not done properly, then the request for consent will be invalid. Before giving your consent, it’s really important to know what to look for. The purpose(s) for which you are allowing your personal data to be used must be clear. If there is more than one purpose, then you must be able to agree to each one separately. Your consent must be given freely which means you should never feel under pressure to give it. Significantly, your consent must be an affirmative action such as ticking a box, providing a signature or even agreeing verbally. Either way, it must be something you do because doing nothing is not giving consent and cannot be assumed as such. You should also be reminded that you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time and this should be as easy to do as giving it. Often an ‘unsubscribe’ link is provided for this purpose but beware this action will rarely delete your details from the database, to do this you must ask separately. My final message is this : before giving consent, be absolutely clear what the requester is going to do with your personal data and if you are not comfortable with it, don’t give it. Never forget, your personal data belongs to you and no one else, so be careful who you give it to. Phil Brown, Norfolk’s Data Protection Mardler

Once nearly nine miles long, the canal opened in 1826 to ferry cargoes to and from mills and communities along its route. But it went into decline with the arrival of the railway and the last wherry sailed it in 1934.

Disuse led to the waterway becoming choked with vegetation and Ebridge Lock, along with the rest of the canal infrastructure, rusted, rotted and crumbled.

It is the most visible of the canal's locks, standing beside the road from North Walsham to Happisburgh, on Ebridge Mill Pond.

Please email secretary@nwdct.org for details of how to donate to the project.

Big Bodham Spring Clean

A group of hardly locals braved the wet conditions to take place in a community litter pick in Bodham on Sunday 7 April.

The 'Big Bodham Spring Clean' event was organised by Rock Bodham, with pickers and sacks provided by North Norfolk District Council.

Callum Ringer, who organised the event on behalf of Rock Bodham, said “We all have to do our bit to reduce the amount of plastics getting into our environment, and we at Rock Bodham are well aware of that. All plastics and cans etc pose Callum Ringer, Dave Mills, Paul Clarke, a threat to our Stephen and Jane Sadler wildlife, Bodham is located at the source of the River Glaven, it is wildlife not only on land, but in our watercourses that can suffer if we don't act. Hopefully we have made a difference, and the village will look nicer too.”

Volunteers met at the village hall, and were treated to teas, coffees, and cakes afterwards to dry off and warm up. Rock Bodham, whose main event is its music festival on 27 July, organise a range of events in the village throughout the year, including quiz nights at Bodham Red Hart and the village fireworks display in November.

East Anglian Air Ambulance launch 24 mile trek challenge as part of campaign to become 24/7 East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) has launched a brand new 24 mile or 24K trek challenge as part of its campaign to become a 24/7 service and is encouraging people who are ready to take on a challenge to sign up.

of the challenge.

The event, which is called Trek 24, is to be held in North Norfolk and will take place on Sunday 8 September during National Air Ambulance Week.

Groups and individual participants will have two exciting challenges to choose from : • A 24 mile route starting south of West Runton and ending at Holkham Hall • A 24k route starting in Cley and ending at Holkham Hall

For participants taking part in the 24km route, early bird tickets cost £20 with a minimum sponsorship requirement of £200. For participants taking part in the 24 mile route, early bird tickets cost £25 with a minimum sponsorship requirement of £250.

Trekkers will receive a packed lunch, refreshments on route, a glass of bubbly (or soft drink alternative) and a hot meal at the finish line, as well as a medal to celebrate the completion

Hedgehog Haven

There will be seven ‘uplift stations’ along the way with refreshment stops and cheering squads to keeping trekkers refueled and motivated. Early bird tickets will be available until midnight Sunday 2nd June and are sold on a first come first served basis.

Catrina Miller, Events Manager at East Anglian Air Ambulance, said: “We are delighted to officially launch our brand new event Trek 24 in support of our campaign to become a 24/7 service.

Currently our operation runs from 7am until midnight, meaning there is a 7 hour gap in air ambulance coverage in the East of England. By extending our flying hours round the clock, we estimate that we could be there for up to 600 more patients every year.”

To become a 24/7 service we do however need to raise an additional £1m a year and we have launched Trek 24 to help us work towards achieving this annual target. Whether you want to support our 24/7 mission or just take part in a challenging and fun event, we can guarantee it will be one not to miss!”

Bert was found by the side of a road with a bloody nose. Suspecting a mouth injury, I took him to Westover Vets in North Walsham where an x-ray revealed a fracture to his upper jaw.

He has had a tooth removed and is managing to eat quite well on a diet of mashed wet cat food.

Three days later Sonic came in with a very similar injury. He had two teeth removed today 1 April so hopefully he also will now be able to manage to eat.

Unfortunately this is quite a common injury from taking a glancing blow from a moving vehicle as hedgehogs are just emerging from hibernation and are moving about slower than normal.

All things bright and beautiful at Colkirk Arts Festival

Last year the theme at the Festival was a festival of angels. It was a phenomenal success with over 600 visitors during the weekend raising £1,003.22 for LED lighting in the church.

The theme this year is ‘All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small’ and the church will be decorated butterflies, bees, ladybirds, etc.

Just outside the church porch will stand a three foot wide stainless steel spider. Inside, displays will include a full-size bee hive complete with knitted bees and flower garden, bonsai trees, stainless steel swan, crocheted flower obelisk, ‘bottom of the garden’ - a large wildlife display made from recycled metal objects, Charlie the Guinea pig, butterfly wall-hanging, an illuminated underwater scene with tropical fish, over 100 painting,; pottery made by a Colkirk potter, and finally, two large painted lions to guard the entrance to the church.

The flower arranging ladies made some stunning arrangements for the angel festival - and they’ve promised to do us proud again this year.

Christmas lights throughout the church will give a welcoming touch especially for children – whose competition this year is to made a miniature garden in a tea pot or biscuit tin.

The Arts Festival will take place Saturday 11/Sunday 12 May at St. Mary’s Church, Colkirk. NR21 7NR from 10am – 5pm Saturday and 10am – 4pm Sunday. Refreshments will be available throughout the weekend. Rev Robin will close the Festival with a Songs of Praise service at 4pm on the Sunday. All welcome. Free Admission.

Together with his wife Paige, Jonathan leads a local church and School of Supernatural Life in addition to serving as joint regional consultants for The Filling Stations in East Anglia.

He loves to equip and release God’s people into all that the Father has for them, to see East Anglia renewed in every way.

“Our heart is to equip and release you into your God given purpose. It is really not complicated to understand how service comes from a place of worship, intimacy, identity and authority. This enables us to thrive and not just survive.”

So do come and join us for an evening of fellowship, wonderful worship followed by the main talk. There will also be a time for prayer ministry at the end of the evening. Please feel able to arrive at Swanton Novers Village Hall, St Giles Road, Swanton Novers, Melton Constable, NR24 2RB from 7pm for coffee, cakes and chat for a 7.30pm start. For further information please email Tasha North at nnfillingstation@gmail.com or telephone 07825 702360.

Reepham Food Festival 26 May 2019

Plans are well advanced for Reepham’s third food festival on 26 May. All the stalls in the market square and gardens are now booked and visitors can look forward to a whole range of foodie events and displays.

The Festival will kick off with the junior Masterchef completion at Reepham High School on 10 May. Ten finalists will battle it out under the watchful eye of judges, including Andrew Jones from the Dial House and Sarah Hardy, editor of Feast magazine. Prizes will be awarded on Festival Day.

On Friday 24 May, the Dial House will be firing up Big Bertha the Barbecue with the first lobster of the season and sizzling steaks. It’s the King’s Arms turn on Saturday 25 May with local produce featuring strongly in a special evening menu. Both restaurants will take bookings as usual.

More than 50 stalls have signed up to show their produce on the Sunday. Many of them are new to the Festival so there will be many tastes to try and buy. With food and drink stalls in the Bircham Gardens there will be plenty of space to picnic and enjoy your purchases.

There will be demonstrations on food preparation and cooking from WI experts and chefs from the Dial House. Kids will have plenty to do, with hands-on food science experiments, competitions and trails.

The Festival will close with a community supper in the Town Hall. This will be a buffet featuring produce from our stall holders and other local suppliers.

This will be an all ticket event. Tickets will be on sale in April though Very Nice Things, Reepham Farm Shop and the festival website.

This year’s main sponsor is Vattenfall who are developing the new off-shore wind generation facilities in the North Sea.

The Festival is organised by Reepham Rotary Club with help from other local volunteers. More help on the day is always welcomed. Full details and updates will be found at www.reephamfoodfestical.org.uk
