What about the children? Shared parenting after divorce Maria Endall, Family Solicitor, Hayes + Storr
Coping with your own emotions during a break up is hard enough, let alone the opinions, and sometimes interference of those around you. The bigger and likely more troubling question is: how do you make the separation easier on your children? So often separating parents begin to think of the children as ‘theirs’ – belonging to them and denying the important relationship between the child(ren) and the other parent.
Clearly children do not have the same insight or understanding into the reasons for the break-up, but if they are regularly surrounded by conflict, it is not uncommon for them to feel they are in some way implicated or responsible for it. Seeing the two people they love and need most, separate, can have a life-long effect on a child’s mental wellbeing, depending on how it is handled by their parents. Children can’t be expected to ‘choose’ which parent to live with and, assuming that both the mother and father are fit to parent, what happens
next? Although it may seem inconceivable at the time, shared parenting arrangements where children spend equal amounts of time with both parents is an option worth considering. For shared parenting to work, you and your ex-partner will need to live within a reasonable distance of one another so that your children can attend the same school, continue friendships and maintain contact with other family members, causing the least amount of disruption to their lives as possible. Each parent then shares responsibilities which may include school runs, attending after-school activities, appointments or helping with homework and so on. Often, after a break-up, children remain living with one parent and have limited contact with the other. This level of contact can feel transient and insufficient. With a shared parenting arrangement, both parents retain equal status and the children benefit from the routine and stability of having both parents fully involved
Happisburgh Lifeboat Station Happisburgh Lifeboat Station looked back at 2018 with the Awards and Dinner Dance held at Woodland Holiday Park Trimingham on Saturday 18 May.
Over 75 people attended the dinner dance. After the meal the main purpose of the evening was to look back at 2018 before the band ‘The Invisible Band’ took to the stage. The evening raised £ 750, through the raffle and auction, for the RNLI who depends on these donations to carry on with our role Steve Poll receiving his of saving lives. award from Philip Smith Cubitt Siely, Lifeboat Operations Manager, thanked all our volunteers and supporters for all their help and support that they had given throughout 2018 to provide a 24/7 search and rescue service. ‘’We rely on volunteers to help save lives’. Philip Smith, Chair of the Lifeboat Management Group, gave a roundup of 2018.
Happisburgh RNLI Lifeboat Station volunteers were called into action seven times in 2018. The Community Safety Team has been doing throw bag training for bars and restaurants that are situated near water in Norwich and around the Broads. This is part of the RNLI ‘Respect the Water’ campaign to

If you’re interested in a shared parenting arrangement, it’s worth exploring further with your solicitor or putting forward for consideration if you’re attending mediation.

reduce the number of deaths from drowning. The callouts included everything from engine problems, demasted yachts, inflatables, medical evacuation and dogs in the sea.
Twelve volunteers successfully passed the RNLI Casualty Care course. Bob Mann attended the Cenotaph in London.
He thanked: • Paul Broomfield and Bob Mann for their work on the net trials being carried out for the RNLI. • Tim Grimmer for all his support and that of his employer to allow him to be available to answer his pager at all times. • Charlotte Siely, who has carried on with her work as helm and assessor so others are able to work through their training plan. She also continued with the station recruitment campaign. We are always looking for new volunteers to carry on our work of saving lives at sea. • David Loveday and Sean Thurston who passed out on their crew plan and are now moving onto a Mechanics Plan (for David) a Helm Plan on a D Class (for Sean). The RNLI is a charity and 2018 Lifeboat day and fete raised over £8000. boat handing skills as a helmsman. He was taken from us on 17 March 2008, 11 years ago. ‘Kelly you are not forgotten and the Kelvin Baker achievement award lives on in your memory promoting the commitment and professionalism we like to think he would have approved of’. The Station decided that this year’s Kelvin Baker Achievement award should go to Steve Poll.
Steve Poll is part of our shore crew, which enables our boat to be launched and recovered safely. Steve has work hard and is always ready to help in any way. He has worked through his Shore Crew plan and is now working through his Head Launcher plan. Steve has had a bad year healthwise but has still been there to support the rest of the shore crew. The Service Award for Memorable Service was not awarded for 2018 as no service warranted this award in 2018. Everyone enjoyed the night.

Hedgehog Haven
Apiary site, between Warham and Blakeney as close to the marsh as possible for the sea lavender nectar flow between July and mid August. Please contact Richard if you can help. 07341851946, thanks.
The last three Autumn juveniles have now been released into the wild.
Having a good start hopefully means that they will mature into breeding adults, helping keep this endearing species from extinction.
Now is the time of year when the first litters will be being born. Hoglets born now have more chance of gaining weigh and maturing enough to survive their first winter. Normal family size is four to six but on average a female manages to rear only about three of her offspring to independence. Please be careful when gardening as a hedgehog’s nest can be difficult to spot and if disturbed a mother is likely to abandon her young.
Cromer Soapbox Derby 2019 Sunday 11 August - racing from 1pm The race is on with this year’s Cromer Soapbox Derby already attracting entries from as far afield as Nottingham, Leicestershire and Bedfordshire and within the county of Norfolk from North Walsham, Norwich, Hunstanton and Thetford.
Organisers are delighted with the response and still expect to receive more entries before the closing date 3 August and, as with last year’s event, a few late arrivals on the day. Race organisers are hoping for a large local entry in this 50th year of Cromer Carnival with a few perhaps of the entries building soapboxes that reflect the history of the carnival. Event scrutineers say that they are happy to accept entries on the day as long as they arrive sharp at 11.30am when the scrutineering opens so there
is time to process them and make sure everything is in order.
This year event has gained the continued support from last years sponsor’s GTK ‘A Volex Company’ based in Basingstoke, Hampshire and Westcotec Traffic Safety Systems based in Dereham, both from the electronics industry. Both sponsors are expected to enter soapboxes into the event adding a truly international feel to the race. Entry forms are available from CTIS Ltd 22 Holt Road Cromer or online at www.cromercarnival.co.uk Entries close on 3 August but late entries could be accepted on the day if they arrive for the scrutineering at 11.30am. Racing starts at 1pm with the 3 classes racing to become the fastest soapbox of the day. Classes are 10 – 15 years, 16 -18 years and Adult. There will be prizes for the fastest

time in each class, with the fastest soapbox also winning the Malcolm McGreadie Shield, which the winner will hold for the year.
There is also a Concourse de Elegance competition with winners in each class being judged on the design of their soapbox and the driver’s costume.
The Sporting Car Club of Norfolk will be providing the timing and scrutineering for the event and are planning to bring along a number of cars for a static display.
Art Exhibition Norfolk Wildlife Trust Cley
East Anglia Air Ambulance are delighted to launch a brand new fundraising event - TREK 24 - a 24 mile or 24k long trek across the North Norfolk Coast - and are looking for teams and individuals who are ready to step up and take on this challenge for our life-saving charity!
North Walsham resident Rosalie Osborne Gibb will once again be holding an Art Exhibition at the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, Cley-next-the-Sea, from Wednesday 26 June to Tuesday 9 July from 10am to 5pm daily.
Take part in either a 24k route which starts in Cley, or sign up to the ultimate 24 mile challenge starting just south of West Runton, and finishing at the beautiful grounds of Holkham Hall. There will be uplift stations along the way with refreshment stops and cheering squads to keep you refuelled and motivated!
Rosalie’s love of the coast and countryside shines through her diverse art, from sea and Sunrise at Overstrand landscapes to sunrises, sunsets, flora and fauna, and from delicate and detailed water colours to bright, bold acrylics and beautiful soft pastels, often incorporating creative techniques.
The challenge has been launched as part of our Mission 24/7 campaign. We need to become a 24/7 service to be there for up to 600 more patients every year, but we need to raise an additional £1m annually and have launched Trek 24 to help us work towards achieving this annual target.
24km route - tickets cost £30, with a minimum sponsorship requirement of £200 per person
In addition to a wide range of original artwork, Rosalie will also have signed limited edition prints, greetings cards, bone china mugs and coasters depicting a selection of her paintings.
Visit https://www.eaaa.org.uk/get-involved/events/ trek-24 for more information and to sign up.
Rosalie will also be holding a one-day Art Exhibition at Hunter’s Yard, Horsefen Road, Ludham, from 10am to 4pm, to coincide with Ludham Open Gardens.
Admission to the exhibition is free.

WHY CHOOSE WHY CHOOSE SILVER & WARD WARD SILVER S SOLICITORS OLICITORS in in 2019? 2019?
“It’s a recurrent misconception that a larger firm is better.” I am Clare Mayell and I own Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor. I appreciate that any time of the year can be a difficult time for many people to resolve legal issues of worry and concern, for example, making a will or Lasting Power of Attorney. As I have worked fo or 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norfolk or Norwich and I provide 22 years of expertise and exceptional service. I pride myself in being one of the only solicitors who offffers a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, so clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an info ormed decision. At a larger firm you just pay more. When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. I advise new clients to “shop around” as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can offer the same or clients across Norrffolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. expertise, if not better. I have and can act fo so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs.
“I would say to any potential client with a legal issue or worry in 2019 to come and meet me face to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain.

The annual flower festivals have been run for over 50 years and are a major event for both the church and the town, regularly attracting around 3000 visitors with several coach parties and many planning their holidays around the festival dates.
Each year the talented flower arrangers design their floral displays to a specific theme with exceptional attention to detail and creativity. Last year was the 50th anniversary festival which was appropriately titled “Golden Moments” and 28 arrangements were presented This year the theme will be ‘The Gift of Water’ and three examples of the 28 arrangements on display will be ‘Boating Holidays’, ‘Rivers and Lakes’ and ‘Irrigation’.
Throughout the Festival background music, played by organists both local
and further afield, add to the ambiance of the event.
But the festival is about much more than flowers. In addition to being amazed by the floral arrangements, visitors will be able to browse the many stalls offering a superb variety of plants, jigsaws, books, arts & crafts, souvenirs and gifts, jewellery, Christian books, Fair Trade, quality bric-a-brac, a raffle, quality cards and various quizzes. A children’s activity table on the Saturday and Sunday of the festival should keep the children happy and a prayer space will be available for those wishing quiet reflection. Catering forms a major part of the Festival with light lunches, cream teas and an extensive choice of cakes on offer. Overall a visit to St Andrew’s Flower Festival is a thoroughly enjoyable way to pass a few hours.
Holding a New Born Baby
Entry to the festival is free but donations are gratefully accepted. Proceeds from the festival go to church funds but each year a donation is given to a local charity. Last year around £1000 was donated to Sheringham Lifeboat and this year’s beneficiary will be Stable Door (Sheringham Christian Housing Association) and in addition, to reflect the theme of the festival, a further sizeable donation will be given to
The Festival will be opened on Thursday 5 July at 10am by the Mayor of Sheringham, Madeline Ashcroft and daily opening/closing times will be 10am to 5pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 12noon to 5pm on Sunday. Holy Communion will take place from 9.15am on the Festival Friday and Festival worship will take place at 10.30am on Sunday 8th with a special Festival Praise service at 5.30pm. The church is wheelchair friendly and has disabled toilet and baby changing facilities. Further details of this year’s and historical festivals, where to find us plus more information on St Andrew’s Church in general can be found on www.sheringhammethodist.org.uk We look forward to extending a warm welcome to visitors to our festival.

Honing Church Flower Festival
A family event with stalls, children’s games, a raffle, refreshments and live music from ‘Four in a Bar with Phil Brooke’ on Saturday 29 June, from 2pm- 4:30pm on Station Road, Walsingham, NR22 6EB.
There’s a Flower Festival with a difference at Honing Church on 22 & 23 June.
All the displays will be on the theme of village life past or present. Floral arrangements will depict a wide range of people and places such as the forge, artists, the school and shops long since closed, a chimney sweep, hairdresser, physiotherapist and inevitably farming. “It promises to be a memorable occasion” said Organiser Diana Howes. “The community has really entered into the spirit of the event - the designs are incredibly creative, colourful, and evocative.”
Refreshments, including the sumptuous cakes that helps make all Honing events so enjoyable will be available at church.
Admission is free. There is disabled access. Well behaved dogs are welcome on leads.
The Festival runs from 11am – 4pn both days. Parking is available at church and Honing Village Hall. Proceeds from the weekend will go to Honing with Crostwight Church Funds.

Holt & Community First Responders
After 15 years Holt and Community First Response volunteer group needs help from volunteers to come and take over the group otherwise it is facing being disbanded post AGM which is to be held on 22 July. Approximately half of the Group are either retiring or resigning being a responder. However, there are still some members who will it is envisaged continue Responding, but as individuals they will setting up in their respective areas with other responder groups. There was also the changing of our parameters has resulted in what appears a lack of requirement for our services compared to previous experiences, which has a disheartening effect.
A Responder who may have been on duty for several hours without a call to respond could suddenly receive a request to assist the ambulance service. Should that call be a cardiac arrest emergency and you contribute to the revival of the casualty then this is the greatest reward of them all.
However, our most important task, that of rapid response to breathing difficulties, coronary problems and other potentially life threatening conditions still remains our core priority. From the time a cardiac arrest commences there is a period of approximately eight minutes only during which the opportunity for a successful resuscitation is at its highest. Thereafter, the chance of a successful

Finally, our Group wishes to thank all those who have supported us in so many different ways over the years, especially with the placement of public access defibrillators throughout the locality. There are people with us both in the community and elsewhere in the country who would not have survived if it had not been for your support of our Group. We thank you for enabling us to play a part in ensuring that they are alive today. Our thanks for your bequests, your donations, cooperation and goodwill.

Police warning after mobile phone thefts
Police are warning members of the public to be vigilant after four incidents of mobile phone theft by men using distraction techniques. In Wymondham suspect(s) targeted an estate agents in the Market Place, placing newspapers on a desk to cover the victim’s phone. They started a conversation to distract the victim before removing the papers and taking the mobile phone as well.
Similar incidents include a theft in Ingham Suffolk and another at McDonalds, Thetford on in which a mobile phone was stolen. Two men asked members of the public for euros whilst hiding the mobile phone under papers. A third incident was also reported to police when a mobile phone was stolen from a hairdressers in Thetford, again involving two men distracting the victim by asking about hair products. In all incidents the men suspected of being involved were
It all started when... ... hosting a dinner party for friends and family, the conversation steered towards the food. After many kind words and compliments, they said, “We could eat your food every day”.
With our busy lifestyles and the frustration of ‘we never have time to cook each evening after a busy day with work’, the conversation continued. We want a meal that’s quick and convenient but doesn’t compromise on nutrition or taste? Light bulb moment! If on days like that, you could just open your freezer and discover a library of carefullyprepared meals waiting for you to heat up in a jiffy… No need to plan ahead! We did our research and the results were that (however much of a foodie you are) sometimes you just don’t feel like cooking from scratch.
Members of the public are reminded of the below advice in order to prevent becoming a victim of distraction theft: • Busy, public areas such as shopping centers and public transport are popular places for distraction or pick pocket offences where we may be distracted or close contact with others is normal. Be alert to your surroundings. • Keep your mobile phone hidden from view such as in an inside pocket (not hanging out of a back pocket) or inside a closed bag. • Think about when you use your phone and who is around you. • Don’t leave your phone unattended in public places. Anyone with any information should contact the Breckland Engagement Officer, PC Paula Gilluley on 101 or by email at Paula.Gilluley@norfolk.pnn.police.uk.
What we do… After further research and product development the business began - Norfolk Gourmet Kitchen. The company goal - create nutritious and tasty food! We set about creating and tweaking recipes to create wholesome, all-natural dishes that tasted just as delicious when cooked from frozen. Why did we choose to fill people’s freezers, not their fridges? Because the freezer would immediately lock in the incredible flavours and nutritional goodness of each dish, naturally reducing food waste by keeping their food ‘fresh’ for up to six months. Once we had nailed the recipes, we started delivering our freshly frozen meals directly to food-loving folk across Norfolk. Simply open your freezer for a library of carefully prepared meals waiting to be heated. Some of our favourites - Shin of Beef Ragu with Pasta, Chicken & Spinach Curry with Brown Rice (GF) Roast

Broadland Chess Club - Junior Team Successes The Junior members of BCC continue to perform extremely well both in club tournaments, as part of our league teams or in county tournaments. They are currently outshining their senior colleagues in obtaining results. The Norfolk Junior Team tournament was played on Saturday There were two sections: Open and under grade 75. In the Open, Broadland Leverets finished first. Our gold medal winning team was Ieysaa bin-Suhayl, Benedict Ward (captain), Benjie Perry and Jacob Davison. In the u-75 section, Broadland Cygnets finished first and Broadland Elvers finished fourth. Our gold medal winning team was Darcy Pashley (captain), Joshua Dawson, Justin Singh and Django Stephanides-Price.Django has only recently started playing chess having started showing an interest at home, his parents started taking him to the free chess club at Sprowston Library where the children are taught by Roy Hughes, one of our senior team, himself an ex Norfolk Champion. This
is part of the Chess in Schools and Community project which aims to bring the game of chess into schools where it can aid concentration as well as improve mathematical skills. Since then Django has entered several chess events and is doing well. Our second photo shows Benedict Ward holding the trophy as winner of Broadland qualifying tournament for the UK Chess Challenge.
BCC also reached the final of the Williamson Cup but lost against DONS Cavaliers, many congratulations to them.
The third photo shows Benedict Ward, Jacob Davison and Robert Smith with the Stichbury Shield, which is awarded to the team that wins The Friendly League. There were still three possible winners at the start of April and the title was only decided by the final match. This year’s winning team was Broadland Grebes. (The other two members of the squad, Sue Eyre and Benjie Perry, were not present at the time of the photograph).
Our senior team however did manage to reach the final of the Norfolk and Suffolk Cup playing against Ipswich. This is scheduled to be played on June 30th.
The headline news from the Great Yarmouth congress was Stephen Pullinger finishing as the outright winner of the u-170 section. Also, Heather Wells had an exciting king hunt in her final round game and Heather + Benedict Ward both had grading performances significantly above their current grades. Broadland Chess Club meets at the Kings Head, Coltishall, Monday and Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm. As always we welcome visitors and new members, if you would like to join, or wish for more information then please contact us via our facebook/twitter pages or by email Broadlandchessclub@gmail.com

OVERSTRAND FUN DOG SHOW Overstrand Bank Holiday Fun Dog Show organised by Overstrand Together saw lots of wet noses and wagging tails when some 150 dogs and their owners took part in what is now an annual event in the Overstrand Village calendar. The event staged at the Sea Marge Hotel was supported by Miramar Veterinary Practice who donated the prizes for 1st to 4th places in 13 fun categories including waggiest tail, best long coat and dog that looks most like its owner. All 13 classes were judged by North Norfolk District Councillor for the Poppyland Ward Angie Fitch-Tillett who was certainly kept busy with some of the classes having over 40 entries.
Angie said “I really enjoy these sorts of events, they are fun with a touch of excitement as every dog owner wants to win and ultimately receive the cup for Best in Show.” This year’s honours went to Jim Balcombe and his rescue dog Turner (pictured with judge Angie Fitch-Tillett).
The trophies for Best in Show and runner up were again kindly donated by Jeff Richmond, with the rosettes for all classes sponsored by Sea Marge Hotel and the souvenir programme sponsored by Overstrand Garden Centre. Show organiser Mickey Sewell said “I am extremely grateful to all our sponsors and to all those from
Overstrand Together who set up the event and most importantly of all to all the dog owners who took part and made it such a fun day”. It was an important day for Guide Dogs who used the event to launch their newly formed North Norfolk Fundraising Group covering Sheringham, Cromer, Overstrand and inland to North Walsham.
Mandy Loveder Community Fundraising Development Officer for Guide Dogs said “It was great to be able to attend the Overstrand Dog Show and to meet many residents and visitors who were interested to hear about the work of Guide Dogs and our thanks go to the organisers for inviting the new fundraising group for their first outing. Volunteers have come forward to fill the roles of Coordinator, Treasurer and Merchandise Coordinator as well as fundraisers who will all work together to attend events, take on collections and be placing collection devices around the area in pubs, clubs, shops, wherever will be willing to help raise funds for this amazing charity”. She continued “we are looking for more volunteers to join our group as it gives us more chances to reach further to raise income to provide essential lifesaving services. Guide Dogs are
working to give people with sight loss the confidence and skills they need to live the life they choose”.
If you can volunteer your time to help Guide Dogs raise the vital funds needed to help them in their mission to enable people with sight loss gain greater mobility and independence, contact Mandy Loveder on 07468 711890 or mandy.loveder@guidedogs.org.uk
Since 1931, Guide Dogs’ iconic service has transformed the lives of thousands of people living with sight loss, allowing them to be independent. Every hour another person in the UK starts to lose their sight. Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. By 2050, there could be nearly four million. Best in Show Winner Jim Balcombe with his Dog Turner and Show Judge Cllr Angie Fitch-Tillett

Norfolk Learning Difficulties Charity addresses the challenges of an ageing population A £1m appeal to provide accessible accommodation at a north Norfolk charity for adults with learning disabilities has been launched.
As Thornage Hall Independent Living celebrated its official 30th birthday yesterday, the latest £400,000 communal meeting and activity room was opened by the charity’s patron, Lady Philippa Dannatt MBE.
Lady Dannatt, who becomes Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk in August and the first woman in the county to hold the post since it was created during Henry VIII’s reign in the 1540s, unveiled a commemorative plaque.
Gregories Barn will provide a multi-use space for the charity’s 27 tenants and about 30 day service users. Now the charity needs to raise about £1m to build Orchard Lodge, which will provide four fully accessible accommodation units. As many of the
tenants are facing increasing mobility issues, more specialist accommodation is needed. Thornage Hall, near Holt, was given by the late Lord Hastings in 1987 with about 70 acres of land. An appeal was made in that year to raise funds to convert the grade 2 listed hall, which dates from 1482. A total of £600,000 was raised within months to convert the medieval hall into a purpose-built home and the charity was formally established in 1989. Over the past 30 years, the number of tenants has expanded from an initial dozen to the current 27 we have living with us today.
In the past five years, the charity has invested more than £1m in new homes for the tenants, facilities and also up-grading heritage buildings. Today, the charity, which encourages tenants to have an active role on the 70-acre

bio-dynamic farm and also work in the wider community, welcomes adult day service users from across Norfolk. With a sixacre orchard and five acres of market garden for horticultural crops, it supplies its tenants with home-grown food from the biodynamic produce. It has achieved the highest official ratings for its farming standards, especially caring for wildlife, and Thornage has been given a “good” rating in its latest Care Quality Commission inspection. Bio-dynamic produce is also supplied to ichelin-starred hotels and specialist outlets and farm shops too. To further reduce our environmental footprint a reed bed sewage system was installed on the site more than 25 years ago. The charity provides supported living, working and learning opportunities and has workshops including a bakery, weavery, woodwork, willow, art, textiles and IT.

Landlord update: Changes to Landlord and Agents fees
From 1 June 2019 all new tenancies must comply with the Tenant Fees Act 2019 (the 'Act'). Existing tenancies should also be compliant with the Act by 31 May 2020, or will be considered in breach. The Act is intended to limit the payments landlords and agents can charge tenants with residential tenancies, including Assured Shorthold Tenancies, student accommodation and licences to occupy. The Act means that landlords and agents can only charge specific "Permitted Payments”:
• Rent: The first year's rent must be in equal instalments. Any rent review clause within the first year of the tenancy must allow amendment up and down. • Security Deposit: This remains broadly the same except that the amount chargeable will be capped. If the tenancy's total annual rent is less than £50,000, the maximum deposit that can be charged is five weeks' rent. A maximum of six weeks' rent can be charged for annual rents above £50,000. • Holding Deposit: A landlord can still require a holding deposit, but this will be capped at one week's rent. A landlord cannot obtain more than one deposit for the same property and it must be refunded within seven days
of entering into the tenancy agreement or deciding not to proceed. • Alteration Fee: If a tenant requests an alteration to the lease the landlord can charge up to £50, plus any reasonable costs, if evidenced.
• Tenant's Early Termination: If a tenant requests to end the tenancy early, either before the end of the fixed term or end of its notice period, the landlord can require a tenant to continue paying the rent until the original termination date, but cannot ask for it to be paid in a lump sum. The landlord can charge any reasonable costs incurred in arranging for a tenant leaving early. If a new tenant is found, the rent is only payable up to the start of the new tenancy.
• Bills: The landlord can ask a tenant to pay utility, communication and council tax bills direct to the supplier or to themselves to be paid on the tenant's behalf. If payment is made through the landlord, they cannot charge any amount over the bill amount.
• Charges for Late Payment: If the landlord wishes to charge for late payment it must set this out in the tenancy agreement. No fixed penalties can be charged, and interest can only be charged if rent is overdue by 14 days or more and at a rate no higher than 3% above the Bank of England's base rate. • Replacement of Keys: The landlord
BRISTON SHOW AUDIENCE ARE JUST WONDERFUL!
On Friday 10 May a packed Copeman Centre audience thrilled to the amazing music of star organist Nicholas Martin, who played something for everyone, whatever their musical taste might be, But there was more magic to come from the wonderful audience, who not only contributed £189 to the Centre’s funds from their raffle ticket and refreshment purchases, but also raised £111 for our chosen charity, the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital, buying all sorts of goodies from their stall, and then, having listened to Nicholas explaining about his charity ‘Believe In Miracles’ which he and his wife set up many years ago to promote research into autism (both his sons have the condition) as the happy crowd left, they threw a further £161 into a collection bucket in the foyer as they departed so Nicholas was not the only star of the evening - the audience were too - thank you so much for your generosity! must set out in the tenancy agreement details of the payments that will be charged for replacement keys. The tenant can only be required to pay reasonable costs for replacement of keys and this must be evidenced by the landlord.
The Act means that landlords and agents will newly be responsible for many of the costs involved with setting up, renewing and ending a tenancy. They will have to pay fees such as those relating to creating an inventory, professional cleaning and legal fees. If the landlord charges a cost other than a Permitted Payment, once the Act comes into force, it may be a civil offence with a financial penalty of up to £5,000. If another breach is committed within 5 years the landlord will have committed a criminal offence with an unlimited fine.

Cromer Shoal Chalk Beds inspires classroom learning
Children from a Norfolk primary school have been learning about marine protection on their doorstep after their teacher was inspired by a community workshop looking at the role of the Cromer Shoal Chalk Beds Marine Conservation Zone (MCZ) locally. The workshop, held last Autumn in Trimingham, was run by Alice Tebb and Hilary Cox MBE from the Agents of Change project and was attended by Jenny Lumb, a year 3 and 4 teacher at Mundesley Junior School. The aim was to find ways that the community and local area can benefit from having the MCZ on its doorstep and how local people might support it.
Known to local fishermen as the ‘chalk bed’, Cromer Shoal is thought to be Europe’s most extensive chalk reef – it stretches for more than 30km along the coast. Divers from the MCS-led national volunteer dive project, Seasearch, have recorded more than 120 species of seaweed and other plants on the shoals and more than 350 species of fish and invertebrates. The area has been a Marine Conservation Zone since 2016.
Jenny Lumb, created a number of themed lessons based around the Cromer Shoal Chalk Beds MCZ for children in two classes at Mundesley Junior School. They visited Sheringham beach with National Trust Learning Officer, Rob Coleman, where they dug for lug worms and went rock pooling. Rob demonstrated a push net for catching shrimp, the children saw a live plaice as well as learning about local marine wildlife. “It has been great to engage the children in marine environmental issues and help them realise that their actions can affect the sea near them as well as the whales and turtles they have seen in the media,” said Jenny. “So many of the children and their families - and us teachers! - were unaware that there was such a special Marine Conservation Zone on our doorstep before we started the project.” Sheringham fisherman, Jim Lingwood and retired Cromer fisherman, William Cox MBE went into the school to introduce the children to local fishing methods and what it’s like to be a fisherman. Jim showed the
children what fishing gear looked like and how it worked whilst William strung netting to a crab and lobster pot (called a parlour pot) and told the children stories of local fishing history. Fishing is an important part of local culture and history. It was also a great opportunity for the children to appreciate where food comes from and to support the local fishing industry. Jim Lingwood got involved with the children in a question and answer session “I’d ask them things like ‘what do you think I do?’ and ‘how do you think I go out to sea?’ They get really into it. One lad asked if I had ever caught a shark. I said I’d seen a whale but I’ve never caught a big shark! I feel they came away understanding a little bit more about their local small-scale fishing industry.” The children learned about how they could be ocean-friendly by going out on a beach clean with 2018 MCS Volunteer of the Year, Michelle ‘Shell’ Duddy, who lives in Mundesley and regularly runs four other beach cleans in Norfolk. “It was a great opportunity to show the younger generation how important it is to keep our beaches clear of litter and fishing gear to protect marine life and keep our marine environment healthy,” said Shell. “They all enjoyed the day and collected almost 30 kg of rubbish of the beach.” Hilary Cox from the Agents of Change project also went into Mundesley Junior School to explain to the children why Cromer Shoal Chalk Beds MCZ is such a positive thing for the area. She said “This is a truly exciting project to enable schools to integrate with local issues and encourage everyone to learn more about what lies just beneath the waves on our shoreline.”.
Happisburgh Lifeboat volunteers were called to the aid of an injured female on the beach at Happisburgh on Bank Holiday Monday 27 May.
The Station’s deputy launching authority Bob Mann was alerted at 10am by the UK Coastguard, and informed that a female was on the beach injured. The Coastguard team requested evacuation by lifeboat due to the fact that she was below the old Coast Watch lookout with no vehicular access. The station volunteers were paged and the station’s D Class ‘Russell Pickering’ with Tim Grimmer and Jake Munday as Helm and Martin Gibbs and Sean Thurston as crew were launched to her aid.

As well as writing thank-you letters to all the experts, crucially, they children wrote letters to their parents using persuasive writing to encourage them to use less plastic. As part of their maths lesson, they had to survey their parents to ask them what they knew about the MCZ and discovered only 16% had heard of it!

On arrival the crew worked with the Coastgaurd team who had walked along the beach; they were joined by the paramedic to package the patient before transporting her back to station by lifeboat. Then on arrival back at station they floated ‘Russell Pickering’ back on to her carriage and returned to the boathouse to transfer the patient to the awaiting ambulance before being transported to hospital for ongoing treatment. The crew made ‘Russell Pickering’ ready for service at 11.30am.
Tim Grimmer said “it is always good to work with other emergency services and help towards the care of the patient. If you are in trouble on the beach or sea then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard for help”.

North Norfolk Photographic Society
Jim Hartje came from Peterborough to talk to North Norfolk Photographic Society on 15 May.
Originally from Surrey Jim Hartje moved to Peterborough in 1974 with a young family and got really interested in photography as they grew up. He has been a member of Peterborough Photographic Society since 1981 and he is now their Web Master. He is an Associate of the Royal Photographic Speaker Jim Hartje Society, a North & East Midlands Photographic Federation Lecturer and a Photographic Alliance of Great Britain Judge. He is also the holder of the Excellence FIAP, and British Photographic Exhibition 5 Crown distinctions – through successful participation in both national & international exhibitions.
Jim on this occasion spoke about Audio Visual techniques – the
leave the skin on. Wash thoroughly then pat dry. Place the fish in the freezer for 30 minutes before you begin, this makes it easier to slice. Once firm, cut into slices approximately 1cm in thickness. Mix the soy sauce, lemon juice, maple syrup, freshly ground pepper, pepper sauce and the liquid smoke and whisk well. Coat the salmon strips in the bowl of marinade, transfer to a sealable bag and allow to marinate for at least 12 hours in the fridge. Pat dry with a clean kitchen towel. Position a clean wire rack over a baking tray, sprinkle the salmon pieces with coarse salt on both sides and let it 'dry' in the fridge for 2 hours. Preheat the oven to 75°C. Brush away all the salt from the salmon pieces. Cover the wire rack with parchment paper or a silicon mat and place over a clean baking sheet. Lay the salmon strips out spaced evenly on top. Cook the salmon until it reaches 75°C. Lower the heat to 60°C, steadily cooking the fish for about 4 and a half hours in total, flipping halfway through. The final jerky should be crispy outside and chewy and sticky inside. For the caper, shallot and dill mayo. Mix all ingredients in a small mixing bowl, folding until it is evenly mixed
combining of photographs with sound (usually music) to make one polished presentation.
In the first part of the evening Jim showed how the software works. Using a combination of applications such as Photoshop to tailor the photographs to a suitable size, it was also necessary to tailor the sound to fit – Jim said he uses audacity now. Then specialist audio-visual software is used to create the show. Jim uses ProShow Gold. And members were shown how images can be made to dissolve one into another, to spin around on the screen among many other techniques. After a break, Jim Hartje showed half a dozen of his audio visual shows. There was one on fungi, another on motor racing and several using landscapes – Jim after all is a prize-winning photographer! Meetings of the North Norfolk Photographic Society are normally held on first and third Wednesday each month at the Holt Community Centre. Flying the (Blue) Flags for North Norfolk’s fabulous beaches All six beaches have retained their prestigious gongs for another year It’s official! North Norfolk continues to have some of the best beaches in the country. The beaches in Cromer, East Runton, Mundesley, Sea Palling, Sheringham and West Runton have all been awarded prestigious Blue Flags for another year – and that means the 45-mile North Norfolk coastline is home to half of all the Blue Flag beaches in the east of England.
The awards are given out only to those beaches that have the highest quality of water, facilities, environmental education and management, with superb levels of cleanliness and safety. It means the hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors who visit North Norfolk’s beaches each year can be

sure they are enjoying top-notch destinations.
North Norfolk is the only district in the county that has been awarded any Blue Flags this year.
As well as the Blue Flags, the beach at Wells, which is owned by the Holkham Estate but jointly managed by NNDC and the RNLI, has won a Seaside Award, which guarantees visitors a clean, safe, attractive and wellmanaged coastal stretch. Cllr Sarah Butikofer, Leader of North Norfolk District Council, said “This is fantastic news and highlights once again what fantastic beaches we have in North Norfolk.
“It is testament to all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes all year round to keep our beaches in tip-top

Allison Ogden-Newton, chief executive of Keep Britain Tidy, which runs the Blue Flags scheme, said “The success of the beaches in reaching the very high standards demanded by both awards is testament to all those who have worked so hard to protect and improve our beaches – from beach managers and volunteers to local people and businesses. “When you enjoy a trip to a beach flying an international Blue Flag or Seaside Award, you know you are on one of the safest, cleanest and very best in the country.”
There is evidence that the awards attract more visitors, with the number of people visiting the district’s beaches rising from 100,000 a year to 400,000 since they started being awarded Blue Flags.
