Happisburgh Lifeboat Station
The Kelvin Baker Achievement Award is in memory of Kelvin Baker who was a leading member of the Lifeboat, well respected for his professionalism and boat handing skills as a helmsman. He was taken from us on 17th March 2008, 12 years ago. Kelly you are not forgotten and the Kelvin Baker achievement award lives on in your memory promoting the commitment and professionalism we like to think he would have approved of.
Happisburgh Lifeboat Station looked back at 2019 with the Awards and Dinner Dance held at Woodland Holiday Park, Trimingham on Saturday 29 Febuary. Around a hundred volunteers and supporters attended the dinner dance. After the meal the main purpose of the evening was to look back at 2019 before the band ‘Uptown Nights’ took to the stage. The evening raised £ 927 through the raffle and auction for the RNLI who depends on these donations to carry on with our role of saving lives.
The Station decided that this year’s Kelvin Baker Achievement award should go to Sean Thurston. Sean Thurston is a crew member and in 2019 passed out as Helm of both the D class and the Atlantic 85. He has also been a valuable asset to the Station helping with training new crew members and supporting the Station as a whole. The Service Award for Memorable Service was not warded for 2019 as no service warranted this award. Mike Forsdick has stood down from the Station and to mark this he was given a letter of thanks from the RNLI for all his service to the Station and a framed signed crew photo.
Sean Thurston getting his award from Lifesaving Area A number of our volunteers have been Manager Sally Houseago affected by cancer, directly or indirectly, so we were inspired to raise funds for this Norfolk cancer charity, The Big C, earlier this year. £75 raised from the Dinner Dance went to this charity, which added to the previous event made the total £740. Philip Smith, Chair of the Lifeboat Management Group, gave a roundup of 2019 “Happisburgh RNLI Lifeboat Station volunteers were called into action 15 times in 2019. The station’s Atlantic Howard Bell 6 times, and the D-Class Russell Pickering 9 times. The Community Safety Team has been doing throw bag training for bars and restaurants that are situated near water in Norwich and around the Broads. This is part of the RNLI ‘Respect the Water’ campaign to reduce the number of deaths from drowning. The callouts included everything from engine problems, inflatables, medical evacuation, missing people and not forgetting the 60 green and yellow balloons!”
Tony Phoenix, who stood down as Helm in 2018, was also presented with a letter of thanks from the RNLI for all his service to the Station. This took place this year as he was unable to attend last year’s event.
Everyone enjoyed the night. Special thanks to the band ‘Uptown Nights’ and also the staff of Woodland Holiday Park who helped make the evening a success.
He also thanked all the volunteers for all their hard work with training courses and giving up their time to provide a world class rescue service. The RNLI is a charity and 2019 Lifeboat Day and Fete raised over £7,000.

Dementia - What steps can we take to safeguard our loved ones?
and reviews annual accounts to ensure that the person's affairs are managed correctly. This helps to protect the person living with dementia, or other condition which may affect their mental capacity. The process of applying to become a person's Deputy can take much longer than if the person had taken steps to make a Lasting Power of Attorney while they were still able to. This is because the person is no longer able to willingly appoint those they trust to act on their behalf. Therefore, the Court requires much more information to be able to make a decision that would be in that person's best interests. Due to the nature of the application, and the additional work involved, the process of applying to be a person's Deputy is invariably going to be more costly than if the person had made a Lasting Power of Attorney. However, if the person has reached the point where they can no longer make decisions on their own, and there is no Lasting Power of Attorney in place, there is little choice other than to go down this route. We aim to deal with such applications as quickly and cost efficiently as possible. We also ensure we make applicants aware of the projected timescales, and possible delays with the Court system, from the outset.
What can we do to help a family member or close friend following a diagnosis of dementia? It is important to remember that if an individual loses, or starts to lose mental capacity a spouse, next of kin, or family member is not automatically appointed to legally deal with their affairs.
Lasting Powers of Attorney
If an individual is diagnosed with dementia, or other condition that means they are likely to require help and support in the future, they should consider making a Lasting Power of Attorney. This would allow the individual to appoint specific people they trust implicitly to help them, legally, manage their affairs. This can help safeguard against the person falling victim to financial abuse. Taking advice from a legal profession is essential here to ensure that the person fully understands the powers they are giving to their attorney and also considers who would be best in the role. We help individuals to explore whether a particular family member or friend is suitable. However, if the individual has not taken steps to make a Lasting Power of Attorney or is at the point where they no longer have sufficient mental capacity, the Court can appoint someone to act on the person's behalf as a Deputy.
Summary
If you are aware that a family member or friend has been diagnosed with dementia we recommend you encourage them to seek legal advice at the earliest opportunity to ensure they get their affairs in order and make a Lasting Power of Attorney. To arrange an appointment with one of our Lasting Power of Attorney specialists, or to discuss your individual circumstances in further detail, please contact our Client Relations Team today on 01263 823398 or email enquiries@clapham-collinge.co.uk. Deputyship
If you are caring for an individual who has been diagnosed with dementia but they do not have sufficient understanding to make a Lasting Power of Attorney you may apply to the Court of Protection for a Deputyship Order. This enables a person who is appointed as Deputy by the court to make decisions on behalf of the person living with dementia in circumstances when the person is unable to make those decisions themselves. You can apply to be a person's Deputy if you are aged 18 or over. Such applicants tend to be close friends, relatives or legal professionals. The Court can appoint two or more Deputies for one person, if appropriate. The Court monitors the Deputy appointed

SHERINGHAM AND CROMER CHORAL SOCIETY CONCERT ‘In Tune with Heaven’
Sheringham and Cromer Choral Society, directed by David Ballard with organ accompaniment by Philip Adams, return to St Peter's Church in Sheringham on Saturday 25 April at 7pm to perform choral works by Charles Hubert Parry (Blest Pair of Sirens), ZoltĂĄn KodĂĄly (Missa Brevis) and Sir Edward Elgar (Te Deum). This concert includes works by two of the great composers whose lives spanned the end of the 19th century and early 20th century. Blest Pair of Sirens is a short choral work by the Charles Hubert Parry, setting John Milton's Ode at a solemn Musick. Edward Elgar was commissioned to compose a setting of the Te Deum in 1897 for that year's Three Choirs Festival in Hereford. By contrast, Missa Brevis was composed some 50 years later by the Hungarian ZoltĂĄn KodĂĄly. KodĂĄly remained in Hungary during the Nazi occupation and he composed this work whilst sheltering in the basement of the Opera House during the blitz of Budapest – seven weeks of non-stop bombing. First performed in the cloakroom of the Budapest Opera House, it later received its official première at the 1948 Three Choirs Festival in Worcester. After the war KodĂĄly became one of the leading figures in the development of music education in Europe. Much of his music is based on national folksong and dance. Tickets cost ÂŁ15 on the door, ÂŁ12 in advance, under 18's FREE from Sheringham Little Theatre Box Office telephone: 01263 22347 email boxoffice@sheringhamlittletheatre.com or online at www.sheringhamlittletheatre.com For more information visit www.sheringhamandcromerchoral.co.uk

WHY CHOOSE WHY CHOOSE SILVER SILVER & WARD WARD SOLICITORS SOLICITORS in in 2020? 20 20 ?
“It’s a recurrent misconception that a larger firm is better.”
I am Clare Mayell and I own Silver and Ward Solicitors in Sheringham. I am an extremely competent and experienced solicitor. I appreciate that any time of the year can be a difficult time for many people to resolve legal issues of worry and concern, for example, making a will or Lasting Power of Attorney. As I have worked for 2 larger local firms I know what clients want and expect. My charges are significantly less than other solicitors in North Norfolk or Norwich and I provide 24 years of expertise and exceptional service. I pride myself in being one of the only solicitors who offffers a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, so clients can come in and obtain some initial advice and discuss costs and then make an info ormed decision. At a larger firm you just pay more. When a client rings or walks through the door they invariably get to speak to me as this personal and direct approach is important to my clients and I. I ensure complete confidentiality is an absolute priority. I advise new clients to “shop around” as I know that my charges are significantly less than other solicitors but I can offer the same expertise, if not better. I have and can act for clients across Norfolk and the Country as we now have the use of Skype, emails etc. so it enables me to act for clients further afield. The reason that clients, near and far, instruct Silver and Ward is because of my expertise, exceptional service and competitive costs.
“I would say to any potential client with a legal issue or worry in 2020 to come and meet me fa ace to face for a FREE FIRST APPOINTMENT, as you have nothing to lose but all to gain.

A guide to minimally invasive facial cosmetic procedures Turn back time and see visible results. The time machine procedures.
Non surgical procedures provide impressive, natural looking results and have a beneficial effect on skin health. However if you’re already at a stage where the effects of ageing, sun-exposure or smoking has taken a toll then your only option may be to go under the knife. We offer gentle minimally invasive surgical procedure.
Blepharoplasty. This involves removal of excess upper eyelid skin to allow youthful look to the eyes. We use a precise laser beam to remove the skin minimising bleeding or bruising. Lip lift. The upper lip lengthens and lips shrink due to loss of volume. If you do lip fillers they often provide an unnatural look. A better solution is to reduce the lip length allowing more of the red lip to show. We often combine this procedure with CO2 laser resurfacing to renew skin around the mouth.
Laser facelift. This is a procedure to provide a tighter jawline and upper neck. A laser fibre is used to heat the under-layers of the skin and shrink the soft tissue allowing the skin to gently firm and lift up.
One stitch facelift. It is a brief procedure. One small incision on either side of the face is used. The incision is hidden in the hair and lifts the jaw line.
Laser liposuction is the best option to get rid of double chin and excess fat in areas of chin, cheeks, neck and jowls. Again there is no knife involved and it is a minimally invasive procedure.
Neck lift. Here a tiny incision is made in the chin crease and underlying neck muscles are tightened. This can also be combined with neck liposuction or mini-facelift surgery.
Minimally invasive facial cosmetic surgery may involve small incision mini brow lift, laser blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery. A lip lift is a small procedure that provides profound results or indeed a mini facelift carried out under local anaesthesia to remove excess facial and neck skin and tighten the underlying muscle layer to provide long lasting results.
Fat transfer. Also known as 3D facelift is gentle fat removal from body. The fat cells are then injected into the face. It provides a natural looking facelift and improves skin quality. Ear lobe surgery. This is carried out to repair torn or stretched earlobes and also to reduce enlarged or elongated earlobes to provide natural contours.
Mini-brow lift. Two incisions on either side of forehead just inside the hair line lift the outer brows. This is an area that often sags with ageing and facial volume loss. A mini brow lift avoids a long scar. Often the hair growth will make the scar barely perceptible.
Of course we also offer minor surgical procedures such as removal of moles, cysts, lipomas etc. Call us on 01603 736487 or log on the website www.coltishallclinic.co.uk

Art Exhibition at Cley
IT’S BRAIN OF BRISTON TIME AGAIN!
Local artist Rosalie Osborne Gibb will be exhibiting an exciting new diverse collection of artwork, illustrating her love of coast and countryside, at the Norfolk Wildlife Trust, Cley, NR25 7SA, from 15 to 28 April from 10am to 5pm daily. In addition to original framed paintings, Rosalie will also have for sale signed and mounted Limited Edition prints, a wide range of greetings cards, unique bone china mugs and coasters that would make lovely gifts (or to keep!) depicting Rosalie’s original artwork. 25% of all sales goes to the NWT.
It’s that time of year again when people rush to exercise their quizzing skills (or lack of them!) when the Copeman Centre at Briston once again puts on one of its legendary ‘Pictures and Sounds’ quiz nights. The date for this one is Saturday 25 April , the time is 7pm, and the sounds, pictures and video clues on the big screen will come at you fast and furious - some easy, some hard, some that need lateral thinking, and some just downright funny! For just a fiver, you get the quiz, a Jacket Potato supper, a pudding, and tea or coffee. If you want to bring your own wobbly juice, we can even supply glasses! We are looking for teams of four, but we always have a few odd people (you know what we mean!) who can make up the numbers - and some of them are actually quite clever! There is a prize for the winning team, and also a booby prize for the team who gets the same number of points as the UK does in Eurovision. It’s all great fun, and everyone is welcome - book now by telephoning 01263 860844 - and advance booking is essential - we had to turn loads of last-minute would-be quizzers away last time as we were full! As usual with our quizzes, all proceeds will benefit the Copeman Centre’s fundraising.

Duncan Baker February Newsletter Dear all, In February, I started my regular surgeries for residents across the constituency. I’m delighted already to have helped so many people with concerns and issues – please do contact me if you would like to see me at a future surgery. In Parliament, I’ve been proud to speak up for our farmers, who are so important to our area, providing not only our food but much employment. I have continued to work on my project to improve ambulance response times by urging the government to look at the Norwich & Norwich A&E unit. It suffers hugely with capacity issues, so we are working on a solution which will benefit everyone and get our ambulances back into North Norfolk faster. In conjunction with multiple partners, I’m in discussions to improve and bring extra facilities to Cromer Hospital. Although at an early stage, this would be a fantastic step forward, if we can treat more people locally and save more residents from having to make the long journey to Norwich. Locally, I am delighted that – after a campaign and petition I ran last year – North Walsham is finally set to have a new
Wetherspoon’s in town. This was something many residents wanted and, alongside the town’s existing pubs and restaurants, will provide a real boost to the local economy and create jobs. More generally, I have spoken in Parliament about the importance of supporting our High Streets and market towns across the constituency. A friendly face, a kind word and a bit of encouragement takes little time but can transform someone’s day – maybe even their life – and yours!
CAN Connect are looking for people who could act as ‘social companions’ for people who need to a little help to engage with groups and activities in their local area, and who have been experiencing loneliness or isolation. They may be elderly, have suffered ill health or mobility issues, or just found it difficult to ‘get back out there’ after a tough time. Cherry struggled with depression and this resulted in her spending little time out of the house - this was made more challenging by not being able to drive and being reliant on public transport in an area where it was often scarce. She recognised that she needed to do something positive to
improve her physical and mental wellbeing and to get more out of life. CAN Connect introduced her to a volunteer, Lily, with whom she quickly established a good rapport, and, following a first trip out for a coffee (a big hurdle for Cherry but one which Lily’s presence helped her overcome) they both decided they’d like to go swimming. Again, this was a significant step for Cherry, but, having by now got to know and trust Lily, they ‘took the plunge’ and became members at the nearby swimming pool and can now go whenever they feel like it! As well as the obvious benefits for Cherry, Lily too has gained a new friend with whom she enjoys chatting and spending time and is herself now enjoying doing something she might not otherwise have done! To be a CAN Connect volunteer the most important qualification is…be yourself! If you’re friendly and easy-going, have a bit a time to spare and would gain great satisfaction from assisting someone else to broaden their horizons, then why not get in touch with us? You could even find yourself making new friends and discovering new activities that you never knew were there!!

Stress free cats (and vets!)
Any one who has ever owned a cat will recognise how particular they can be with their likes and dislikes and the challenges this often poses in caring for them.
Here at Toll Barn Vets we have always known how important specialised care is to all our patients including even the most mischievous of cats! We are extremely proud to have been awarded Gold Standard Feline Friendly Practice status for the 4th consecutive year by the International Society for Feline Medicine, a leading authority on feline care. We are delighted to be one of only 4 practices within the entire of Norfolk to achieve this award.
How does this help reduce stress for your cat? Being recognised as a Gold Standard Feline Friendly practice means we have been inspected and have demonstrated our high standard of care for cats. This includes having a separate waiting area complete with calming pheromone diffusers for worried cats with special areas to raise and cover cat baskets to help minimise stress. The hospital ward is a “cat only” area to prevent any stress caused by being able to see dogs and also has pheromone diffusers and large insulated kennels complete with hiding holes and varieties of food to keep cats Local Trusted Tradesman comfortable during their stay. intraocular pressure), X-rays including dental x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, CT scanner and in house laboratory have been rated at the highest level which means we can diagnose and treat cats quickly thus reducing the length of their stay with us.
Staff Cat Nema
In honour of our recent award (and our love of feline patients) we are offering free of charge healthchecks with our qualified veterinary nurses for all our feline patients so that we can spot any signs of disease early and offer the best possible chance of successful treatment.
Registered Veterinary Nurse Lorna Debbage is Toll Barn Vets Cat Advocate and has some top tips for bringing your cat to the vets.
Cats are independent and territorial animals. They dislike change and need to feel in control of their surroundings to feel secure. This can make a trip to the vets extremely stressful for the cat and it is important to make visits as stress free as possible. The first step is to make the carrier a positive experience. Encourage your cat to sleep and eat in or near it. Don’t just use it for vet visits as the carrier then becomes associated with a negative experience. Use bedding that smells of home and cover the carrier with a towel or blanket. Pheromone sprays can also be used to reduce stress. Once at the practice ensure the carrier is still covered and avoid placing it on the floor. Cat friendly practices should have raised stands designed for carriers. If the waiting room is busy or there is no separate cat waiting area it can be helpful to leave your cat in the car until the vet is ready to see you. It is important to give reassurance to your cat and take things slowly, a less stressful visit for your cat will also be a less stressful visit for yourself! If you would like to book your free of charge healthcheck appointment or find out more about reducing the stress for your cat please give Toll Barn Vets a call on 01692 407126.

Young musicians re-live Mozart with a classical weekend in North Norfolk North Norfolk welcomes a weekend of classic music for young people in the tenth year of Orchestras Live performances
On Friday 28 February, over 275 children from 8 local schools attended open rehearsals at the Auden Theatre in Holt.
The children, aged between 7 and 12 were invited to hear members of the London Mozart Players performing pieces in rehearsal, ahead of their public performance later that evening. Amongst the programme was Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 4 performed by horn player Ben Goldscheider, who was the winner of Brass Section of the BBC Young Musician of the Year winner 2016, when he was 18 years old. Saturday (29th) saw over 80 young brass, strings and woodwind musicians taking in a free workshop to perform as an orchestra. For the workshop, specialist music tutor Helen Stowell of the Norfolk Music Service specially arranged a range of pieces from Mozart’s Horn Concerto to Havana, by Camilla Cabello. For many of these young musicians, this was their very first ensemble performance and a unique moment to play great orchestral pieces with other musicians. The musical weekend was organised with opportunities for young local musicians to learn from the skills and experiences of the professional players; professional orchestras have had a big part to play in supporting the learning and progression of the young future-performers. These events and opportunities are supported in partnership with the Norfolk Music Hub, Orchestras Live and North Norfolk District Council. Established ten years ago, the partnership has seen a range of world class orchestras bringing the music of Mozart, Shostakovich, Mendelssohn and many more to rural venues around North Norfolk. London Mozart Players was founded in 1949 by Harry Blech to delight audiences with the works of Mozart and Haydn.

Sheringham Viking Festival
Inclement weather, and unruly tides could not stop this year’s Scira Viking Festival. The event’s 8th year saw a massive tourist turnout and marks the most successful year yet for the North Norfolk event.
Throughout the day, visitors could enjoy axe throwing, and many fascinating living history camps across the town. How does it feel to wear chainmail? How did Vikings cook their food? These questions and more were engagingly answered on the day. Across Sheringham esplanade there were many tent stalls offering an unbelievable range of dark age trinkets and artefacts. There were animal furs and jewellery; weapons and mead horns. A savage battle waged on Sheringham Beach at 1pm (brought forward one hour by the tide). The sounds of clashing steel and the hard grind of the shield wall reverberated up the promenade with fierce battle cries. A truly fine performance by Wuffa Viking and Saxon Reenactment Society.
The Saturday ended with a torchlight parade from Sheringham Station down to the beach. Here the Viking Longship was spectacularly burned in a strong wind that, thankfully, blew mostly in the opposite direction to the visitors and spectators on the beach.
The weekend was a fitting climax after five days preparation and of exciting children’s workshops during the half-term. The family craft events such as make-yourown Viking mask, and the sword and shield workshop at Oddfellows Hall saw a record turnout.
Festival founder and artist Colin Seal was very pleased with the event and was glad to see such a huge success despite adverse weather conditions. Story by Isaac C-Knight Photos Courtesy of Robin Myerscough
Telephone Befriending with Age UK Norfolk
Bill* started to get calls from Age UK Norfolk’s Telephone Befriending Service after losing his wife of 68 years. He went through a very difficult period; he would get upset in the bank when anyone was kind to him. His daughter contacted the service to ask for some companionship for her father. She said, “We didn’t realise these phone calls would be so good. He absolutely loves the quiz too”. In 1951, Bill married his love, Iris*, after five years of courting. The couple travelled a lot and used to enjoy sequence dancing together. They have a large family and have too many great-grandchildren to count. Bill, who continues to receive calls from the service says, “Age UK Norfolk is a bit of a lifesaver. The telephone calls make my day and they really helped when I was struggling after I lost my wife.” Public Health Norfolk has identified that 38,000 older people in Norfolk are lonely. Age UK Norfolk’s Telephone Befriending Service offers people aged 60 and over companionship by phone with one of our friendly volunteers. Befriending is a chatty weekly call and also offers the opportunity to take part in a fun quiz; helping ease feelings of loneliness and isolation. It sounds simple but can make a real difference to an older person’s life. The volunteer makes the call from their own home and the cost of the call can be reclaimed. Training and full support is provided. More volunteers are needed. Can you spare half an hour a week to help? For further information please contact the Volunteer Coordinator on 01603 785210, volunteering@ageuknorfolk.org.uk.
There were some amazing costumes to be seen, worn by reenactors and others throughout the festival. There were warriors in authentic Viking helmets with that distinctly prominent noseguard and riveted bowl, some wearing thick tunics with chain mail. There were women in a dazzling variety of wool, linen, and animal skins. Some were wearing the iconic Viking pinafore, otherwise known as the hangerok.
There were impressive beards and other facial hair on display. Such hirsute physiognomies give ‘No Shave November’ a run for its money.

Update on the Splash Leisure and Fitness Centre
The Splash swimming pool in Sheringham will remain closed in the coming weeks as repair work is undertaken to damage caused by high winds. Following a survey of the building, remedial work will also be carried out to ensure users can continue to enjoy Splash until Sheringham’s new pool opens in 2021. Sarah BĂźtikofer, Leader of North Norfolk District Council, said: “We apologise for the inconvenience this prolonged closure may cause to
families and regular users of the swimming pool but our priority has to be the safety of the public and our sta. “This is a building which is coming to the end of its life and is displaying many of the problems associated with ageing infrastructure. Whilst we want to keep it open as we build the new leisure centre, we must ensure it is safe and able to withstand all weathers including high winds. Cllr BĂźtikofer continued: “We are still at the stage of commissioning the work and so, as yet, we do not know exactly how long it will take. Clearly we are keen to ensure the closure is kept to a minimum.â€? Other services at Splash remain open as normal.

Contesting a Will
By Gerald Bloye, Chartered Legal Executive
A family member, close friend, or loved one passes away and you find what you believe to be a clear error with their last Will in that it does not reflect the true intentions of the person making the Will. What can you do about it?
The starting point is that the law respects the wishes of the person who has died (“the testator”), even if the last Will did not accord with what family and friends were expecting. However if you suspect that the deceased’s real wishes have not been followed, or that the Will has not been made correctly, the Will may be invalid and you could mount a legal challenge. The grounds for contesting a Will include: • Lack of testamentary capacity: this means that the testator making the Will was not of sound mind when the Will was created and signed. The testator must understand the full content of their estate and understand who they are choosing to include and exclude.
• Forgery and fraud: a Will may be contested if there are valid grounds to suggest that it has been forged in some way. • Undue influence or coercion: there may be a claim if the evidence suggests that the testator had been coerced by other persons into including in their Will provisions that they would not otherwise have included.
• Failure to duly execute the Will: the rules for executing a Will are strict. The testator must sign their Will in the presence of at least two witnesses who are present at the time of signing. The witnesses must confirm that they have seen the Will signed by the testator. If there is evidence to suggest otherwise then the Will may be rendered invalid due to lack of due execution. • The Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975: a claim can be made by a person such as a spouse, partner or child for whom adequate provision should have been made in the Will and was not.
Contesting a Will can be a complex process and expensive in terms of legal costs. It is important that you act as quickly as possible when deciding to contest a Will as stringent time limits may apply. In some cases, your solicitor may advise you to lodge a “caveat” which means that an official Grant of Probate cannot be issued and the estate, therefore, will not be distributed without your notification.
If you have reason to believe a Will is invalid and would like to obtain legal advice please contact Hayes + Storr on 01553 778900 or email law@hayesstorr.com.

‘sundowner set’ and the crowd will be taken on a magical rollercoaster ride of dance music’s rich play-list. Expect tracks from the likes of Orbital, Moby and Paul van Dyk, reinvented by musicians who have worked with the very best in the industry, including Groove Armada, Nightmares On Wax and Robert Miles. The rhythm will build further during Goldierocks’ ‘house DJ set’, which is packed full of stone-cold dance anthems. The concert then reaches a crescendo during the ‘dance set,’ when the orchestra and vocalists return to the stage as night falls and the grounds of Blickling turn into an alfresco nightclub with accompanying lasers. Expect tracks from the likes of The Prodigy and The Shapeshifters, to Faithless and Underworld. USO has released “Classic Ibiza”, an album of iconic dance anthems, which features many of the tracks being played on the night and is available on CD and all major music websites and apps. TONKA BEAN CRÈME BRÛLÉE
A dessert to literally die for (though don’t worry, ours is quite safe!) Tonka beans, harvested ecologically from deep within the Amazon, are a hugely sought-after delicacy throughout the world for their unique, intense flavour. However they also contain a fair amount of coumarin, a toxin that can actually kill you if eaten in quantity. “As long as you don’t use a copious amount of it – obviously a copious amount could cause death – it really is delicious,” says Thomas Raquel, head pastry chef at the Michelin-starred Le Bernardin in New York. In fact it’s banned in the US, so M. Raquel must have a reliable ‘source’ from South America that we’ll say no more about… Our chefs don’t have to smuggle tonka beans in from the windfarms after dark as they are quite legal in the UK. So all
the wonderful flavours are available for you to try in Reis’ amazing crème brulee. We are open for dinner every night from 5-6pm (Early Evening menu) and 6 – 9.30pm (a la carte), although we are always busy so best to book your table on 01263 512412. And of course afternoon tea every day 2 – 4.30pm!
Ingredients • 8 tonka beans •8 egg yolks •110g of caster sugar •900ml of double cream •caster sugar for dusting
Method 1. For the brûlée, toast the tonka beans in the oven for 10 minutes at 1500C/Gas mark 2. Peel the skin off and chop them

Pass through 4 layers of muslin and skim. Fill up 12 cups or small ovenproof dishes with the mixture and place them on a tray 4. The Warm Homes Fund is provided by National Grid and administered by Affordable Warmth Solutions CIC across England, Scotland and Wales. Wartime US plane crew remembered 75 years after crash in Field Dalling
A permanent memorial has been unveiled to honour the US service men who lost their lives when a B24 Liberator crashed 75 years ago on the outskirts of Field Dalling during WW2. The stricken plane crashed while attempting to return to its home base at Attlebridge, near Norwich. It resulted in the deaths of six crew members and also two Italian POW voluntary farm workers. The events were researched by a small team of local people who also retrieved several crash items during their investigations, which were used to confirm the location of the crash and the plane’s identity. The memorial was paid for through voluntary donations and while the actual stone plinth is located down a very muddy farm lane, the engraved steel plaque was, for the purpose of ceremony, moved to inside the village hall from where the ceremony could be performed with much greater ease and comfort. A Memoriam service was followed by the attendance of military representatives in dress uniform from the US 100ARF Wing, based at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, who provided an honour guard and bugle ceremony. Out of a crew of nine, there were six who lost their lives, with three managing to parachute out before the crash. Two Italian soldiers held at the Pudding Norton internment camp were also killed when the B-24 crashed through the hedgerow where they were working. The story is both intriguing and poignant. A significant amount of background information and support was also forthcoming from the nephew of the plane’s radio operator who died in the crash and he lives in the USA. The event which was open to the public, was on Monday morning 17th February and held at the Field Dalling and Saxlingham village hall.

Bring it on Burgh
Family to open up private parkland to Norfolk runners Blur drummer and Norfolk County Councillor Dave Rowntree will open a new family fun run event on a private estate near Aylsham . Bring It On Burgh, a 5km mixed-terrain route, will start in beautiful parkland which has never before been open to the public. Runners will pass through a picturesque unspoilt water meadow set against the backdrop of the River Bure, and past a stunning English Heritage monument. The event in Burgh-next-Aylsham is the brainchild of Susie Anderson, the daughter of the landowner, who was inspired to organise the fundraiser after two people close to her were diagnosed with cancer. Dedicated to raising funds for Cancer Research UK, the run will finish in a specially set-up ‘village’ with live music, artisan food and drink, holistic treatments and a ‘Tree of Hope’ and remembrance. The bands booked are DGAS women’s acoustic African drumming group, Polymer 5, BroadBeat Choir and Spangle Pans. “Cancer touches all of our lives in some form, be it personally, family member, friend or colleague,” says Susie. “My initial reaction when I found out that my cousin and best friend had both been diagnosed with cancer was that of shock and helplessness, but I got the seeds of an idea to try and put on an event to raise some money for Cancer Research UK and I love running, so I put the two together and it gathered pace from there.” The event on Saturday 20 June, at Wood Lane, Burgh-Next-Aylsham, has already attracted support from local companies such as Barnwell Print and Quotatis Ltd, and tickets are on sale for £15 on the Bring It On Burgh website . The organisers are also seeking non-runner volunteers to marshal on the day. More information on www.bringitonburgh.co.uk, @bringitonburgh.co.uk or #bringitonburgh
The Gallant Gardener
At this time of the year, rhubarb is beginning to come into season, whether it is from the forcing houses of the growing triangle in Yorkshire or your garden. This vegetable! has become much more popular and is very versatile. It originates from China and was named as it grew on the banks of the Volga river in Russia. It was used for stomach, liver and lung disorders, venereal disease and snake bites have all been treated with rhubarb, whose earliest recorded use, as powdered roots, date back to 2,700 BC. Despite its purgative, detoxifying qualities, rhubarb hasn’t always been eaten with such relish as it is today. Rhubarb seeds first arrived in Europe in the 16th Century, when it had medicinal, rather than culinary value, a situation that lasted until the 18th Century, when its use as drug declined. Eating the stalks probably arose as a way of utilizing rhubarb’s curative properties. Rhubarb from the garden in general, should not be eaten from July as the oxalic acid comes down into the Southrepps Chorale invites you to stalks. Surprisingly low in calories but high in calcium, potassium and healthy promoting fibre, rhubarb has recently been found to lower blood cholesterol. Rhubarb can be grown in containers or the garden and apart from a top dressing of good manure or general fertilizer it needs very little attention. After about five years it will need digging up splitting and putting in a fresh position where it will get warmth and rain. A recipe we have used for many years and can be eaten both hot and cold is :-Rhubarb and Orange Meringue 3/4 lb trimmed rhubarb, 4 individual sponge cakes, 2 oz castor sugar, 2 tablespoons water, 1 large orange rind and juice, small pinch of cinnamon. Meringue topping: 2 egg whites, 4 oz castor sugar. Slice the sponge cakes through the middle and cut the rhubarb into thin slices. Into a 2-pint ovenproof pie dish put a layer of sponge cake, half the rhubarb, sprinkle with half the sugar, (piano) cinnamon and rind and (soprano) juice of the orange. Continue with another layer in the same way and finally add the water. Cover and cook at approx. 190C or gas mark 5 for 35 to 45 minutes until the rhubarb is tender. Whip egg whites stiffly, gradually add the Aylsham High School NR11 6AN sugar and fold in. Pile on 3.45pm on Saturday 2nd May 2020 top and bake a further Free entr y (retiring collection) 10-12 mins at the same temperature.

Council proposes more efficient alternative to plans for offshore wind connections in to National Grid
North Norfolk District Council is seeking to defend residents’ concerns over intrusive infrastructure works and their impact on the local environment associated with connecting offshore wind generated electricity in to the National Grid North Norfolk District Council, working in partnership with East Suffolk Council, have taken the initiative to express concerns about the impact of proposed onshore National Grid cable connections and wider implications for the District in a letter addressed to the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Under proposed plans, the North Norfolk and East Suffolk local authority areas will see approximately 40% of the UK’s offshore wind generation pass through their districts, having achieved landfall in their districts and then connecting with National Grid infrastructure via onshore cable connections.
North Norfolk District Council has positively embraced offshore wind developments in the North Sea, welcoming the move towards increasing generating capacity in renewable energy and recognising the vital national importance of moving towards a zero-carbon economy by 2050 - having been the first council in Norfolk to declare a Climate Emergency, coupled with the positive implementation of a Green Agenda, environmental plans and renewable energy alternatives being at the forefront of future plans for north Norfolk.
However, the Council shares the concerns of local residents, tourism and agricultural businesses that the number of cable corridors and grid related infrastructures now being proposed by offshore wind developments would cause intrusive and avoidable impacts on the District. The letter, penned to the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Energy, proposes that the Government explore the development of an Offshore Ring Main, to minimise the construction impacts on the coastal region in the short term and to rationalise grid connections for greater efficiency in the long term. An Offshore Ring Main would connect to the National Grid through one single cable connection, potentially Great hearing saving the North Norfolk countryside from widespread infrastructure works delivered over many years.
