Property at Auction
by Stephanie Connor, Solicitor with Hayes + Storr When buying a property at auction, you will find that it is very different to the normal conveyancing process. If you are the successful bidder then you have effectively exchanged contracts when the hammer falls, and both you and the seller will face financial penalties if either of you fail to complete the transaction on the completion date.
issue a mortgage offer or is not ready to release the funds in time to complete your purchase, you could lose the property and your deposit. If you are the successful bidder then you will be required to pay the deposit (usually 10%) immediately. The remainder of the purchase price will be payable on the completion date. The date for the completion of your purchase will be in the paperwork provided by the auctioneer and is usually 28 days after the date of the auction. If you do not proceed with your purchase you are likely to lose your 10% deposit and could also face a claim for additional costs from the seller.
All investigations and surveys on the property must be done before the auction date, as you cannot back out of the purchase if you discover something untoward in your searches or survey after the hammer has fallen. This does mean that you will incur costs before the auction even though you may not be the successful bidder.

A purchase at auction can sometimes be a bargain, but it is essential that you prepare properly before the date of the auction so that you know exactly what you are buying Norman Lamb announces £40 and you have the necessary funds in million to help support people place.
The auctioneers will make an auction pack available, which contains legal documentation about the property, and the auctioneer’s terms and conditions. Your solicitor can advise you on this paperwork before the auction.
If you require a mortgage to buy a property at auction then it is wise to ensure that you have your mortgage offer before the date of the auction. If you do not, and your lender does not

in their own homes
Care Minister and North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb last month announced an extra £40 million to help people remain independent in their own homes for longer.
The Liberal Democrat MP announced the further investment in the Disabled Facilities Grant at the Housing Learning and Improvement Network Conference. Speaking at the conference, he said “For people with disabilities and older people, even the simplest things such as walking, getting up the stairs and climbing in and out of the bathtub can become difficult. We know that most people want to remain independent and be supported in their own home as far as possible. This funding will help people make the necessary practical changes to help them remain in their own home and postpone or even prevent the development of serious health and care needs. An adaptation can make a huge difference to the life of an older person by helping them access all facilities and all parts of their home safely and independently.”
The extra money brings the total spend on Disabled Facilities Grant to £785m from 2010/11 to 2014/15. The Coalition Government recognises the important role that housing plays in helping people to remain independent. The announcement followed the October launch of the Care and Support Housing Fund, a £300m fund to stimulate the market for specialised housing, to help older and disabled adults continue to live independently at home.

Leonardo’s Osso Buco
Osso Buco means ‘slowly braised’ in Italian. This is a family recipe - my great-grandfather, Leonardo Bizzarri, was the former maître d’hôtel at the Savoy in London and studied under the legendary chef Georges August Escoffier. My great-grandfather retired to Overstrand, and in his dotage was a bit of an experimenter in the kitchen. He married the rich flavours of Escoffier’s stock to the succulent Norfolk beef he found here with fantastic results.
The recipe’s been passed on to me and is a great, simple dish that is a bestseller when it’s on the menu at the Grove.
We’ve had a really busy Christmas and New Year, and from January we’re introducing a real lunchtime bargain for all those hardy souls who brave the Norfolk winter. If you’re over fifty you can enjoy two courses for £10 (or £6.95 for one course) plus coffee off the specials boards from Wednesday through to Friday – great local food and a lovely setting to relax in front of the roaring woodburner.
I hope you enjoy Leonardo’s Osso Buco...

THE JUBILEE PLAYERS
Members of the Jubilee Players are busy rehearsing for their next production, the pantomime, to be performed during February half term.
Oh yes they are!
Ros Chamberlin is directing ‘Alice in Wonderland’, a delightful tale, set in Lewis Carroll’s fantastical Wonderland and featuring lots of the familiar characters from his much loved story alongside a collection of goodies and baddies that no decent pantomime would ever be seen without!
Never fear, Alice will be there, as well as the White Rabbit, The Caterpillar, Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, the guests at the Mad Hatters Tea Party and The Queen of Hearts and her courtiers, all playing their part in bringing about a happy ending to all the adventures.
Along the way we will meet Dame Milly, Alice’s mother, Wally the Joker and his terrible jokes, The Wizard of Muddleup Woods with his magic goldmine, the dastardly Knave of Spades who wants to take over Wonderland by marrying Princes Ruby of Hearts, and her true love, The Prince of Diamonds. Will good prevail and will the Prince claim his Princess of Hearts?
Will Alice wake up and find that it was all a dream? Come and join us at The Tithe Barn to find out. Half term fun for all the family.
‘ALICE IN WONDERLAND’
by kind permission of Limelight Scripts will be performed at The Tithe Barn, Horstead
North Walsham Social Centre for the Blind
On Thursday 6 December North Walsham Social Centre for the Blind held its annual Christmas Dinner at the Community Centre in North Walsham. With only a couple of absentees through illness, it was almost a full house for the Club’s last meeting of 2012. One of the Club’s members recited a poem as part of the entertainment and Ludham Church Choir sang carols with a little light humour from the choir master. There were 49 prizes in the Raffle with the first prize hamper being won by one of the members. The committee would like to thank members for all the support that they have given the Club over the past year. It is their support, together with the support the Club gets from local businesses, that enables the Club to keep going. Local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle included East Coast Plastics, Plummer Bros, Tescos (Stalham), JS Sainsbury, Roys of Wroxham, Rossi's Leisure and Andy Gray Electricals.
The next meeting will be the first Thursday in February at 2pm at North Walsham Community Centre.
The Club would also like to take this opportunity to wish all members a happy and prosperous New Year.

A bank holiday visit to Cromer changed their lives forever. This is a story of passion, deceit and betrayal set against a backdrop of rural East Anglia. Two men, driven by their love for the same woman, are pitched against each other in hatred until tragedy and greed propel them into an uneasy truce. But suppressed tensions resurface a generation later with devastating consequences. Available as an e book from www.amazon.co.uk /kindle or www.theguestwhostayed.com
Winter wonders, the remedy for January blues? January can make even the most energetic of us feel down in the dumps. The merriment of Christmas is now a distant memory, short days, cold often dreary weather and a lack of money - it’s not surprising we’re all in need of some cheering up.
To help you feel better and brighter than ever this January, the National Trust thinks it may have the answer to easing those winter blues – experiencing nature’s winter wonders…
Magical winter skies
Often remembered for being grey and overcast, we often forget the amazing winter skies full of intense colour, the perfect backdrop to witness huge flocks of birds passing through. From the vast flocks of geese that can be seen in North Norfolk, roosting on the coastal marshes at Blakeney Freshes to the sight and sound of hundreds of widgeon and teal taking to the air at Wicken Fen, this is definitely the time of year to be looking skywards. Don't be in a hurry to rush home either, the amazing winter sunsets are just as breathtaking.
Fabulous winter gardens
The bleak midwinter may not be the most obvious time to visit gardens, but this time of year brings its own magic. Trees without their leaves reveal new views, statues cast long shadows from the low lying sun – our gardens take on an enchanted appearance. The winter garden at Anglesey Abbey in particular, with some 150 species of plants is an oasis of rich
12
winter colours that lift the spirits. It won’t be long before snowdrops start emerging here and at Oxburgh Hall, Peckover House and Sheringham Park, creating stunning displays that transform the woodland floor.
Stunning Jack Frost
As the temperature drops, staying inside in the warm may seem like the most sensible option. But waking up after a hoarfrost, our landscapes can become scenes from a winter wonderland. Coated in white, icicles and soft frost crystals transform the countryside.it’s as though everything has been covered by a blanket of snow. Ickworth, Wimpole and Sheringham Park in particular lend themselves to scenes from a Christmas card, the perfect spots to bask in nature's majesty with frost-covered topiary, ice-rimmed lakes and breath-taking vistas.
Wonderful winter walks
Why not wrap up warm and banish those winter blues, on a walk that blows the cobwebs away and sheds the extra pounds you’ve put on over the festive season? When the country is at its most wild and wintry, there are some great walks to enjoy at Flatford and Dunwich Heath, offering some of the best crystal clear views of
the year. Wonderfully varied habitats to explore; savour the views and absorb the history and rich variety of trees, bird and animal life along the way. You can always call in for a warming brew at the end of your stroll.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
You’re never too old to have fun in the snow and it’s well worth visiting your local National Trust place when there has been a fresh dump of the white stuff. Hatfield Forest and Blickling Hall not only look beautiful, they’re great spaces for families to build the ultimate snowman, make snow angels and igloos of all shapes and sizes. The slopes at Dunstable Downs lend themselves to sledging too. Of course remember to wrap up warm, take care when having fun in the snow and make plenty of time for hot chocolate breaks.

Sad to say that over the holiday period we had two of our trees stolen and one left uprooted as well as several polyanthus stolen from our tubs in the town. This resulted in one of our helpers working in Vicarage Street on Boxing Day to repair the damage. I am sure the people who steal these plants do not understand the work that goes into providing them in the first place. The decision as to what to plant has to be made, followed by an order placed with Hadfields during the summer, they then have to be collected, planted out into over twenty tubs and tendered until they are established. All this takes time and effort from a very small work force. Not to mention the fund raising that goes on to buy them in the first place. So please, anyone who has ‘acquired’ a small fir tree over the Christmas period, please give some thought as to where it may have come from!
On a more cheerful note, we were delighted to receive a cheque for £327.25p from the Bluebell PH Quiz Club shortly before Christmas and would like to thank Terry and the Gang for their support.
Also our newly donated boat – which has been lovingly restored by Dave and Sandra Bonney – and is situated on the Norwich Road was named ‘The Spirit of Jill’ in memory of Jill Whalley who sadly died a few weeks ago. Several members of Jill’s family and friends joined her husband Bob and members of NWIB at the boat for the ceremony just before Christmas. We are much indebted to Bob and the family who gave the church collection from Jill’s funeral to NWIB. We hope this will provide a lasting memory of Jill and be part of the floral contribution to the town. North Walsham Times #414 19th January 2013
New statistics confirm ambulance response times are worsening – North Norfolk Labour Party
Less than half of the urgent emergency calls to the ambulance service last year in north Norfolk were answered within a target of eight minutes, and the percentage of ambulance staff reaching patients within nineteen minutes in 2012 dropped from 80.6% to 72.4%. Although the overall targets are set by government for the whole of the region, the data seen by North Norfolk Labour Party confirms in north Norfolk a decline in response times, and supports concerns about reducing the number of double-staffed ambulances in the district.
The data from the ambulance trust shows that although there were fewer life-threatening emergency calls in 2012 (4380 in 2012 compared to 4937 in 2011) the ambulance service has seen more delays in the time it takes for first responders, rapid response vehicles, or ambulances to reach patients based
on those 'A8' and 'A19' targets. The number of serious, but not life-threatening, calls in north Norfolk rose to 10,288 (up from 9862 in 2011). Denise Burke, chair of North Norfolk Labour Party, said “These figures raise further doubts
North Norfolk Labour Party praised by Ed Miliband for campaign efforts
Two shadow ministers joined North Norfolk Labour Party at their annual Christmas dinner, when local members also received praise for a local ambulance campaign from the party leader Ed Miliband.
Rachel Reeves, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, told party members about the state of the economy and the threat that the country may end up in a triple-dip recession next year. Meanwhile Luton MP Gavin Shuker, Shadow Minister for Water and Waste, spoke of the challenges ahead for the Labour Party.
Luton MP Gavin Shuker with Labour's candidates for the May 2013 elections
North Norfolk Labour Party was congratulated for their campaigning efforts and the partial u-turn over ambulance cuts in north Norfolk. Gavin Shuker MP said that the Act on Ambulances campaign was “spoken about in Westminster with a sense of pride by those not even in the region”.
Ed Miliband also sent a personal message to the party: ”I want to pay tribute to every single one of you involved in North Norfolk Labour.” He added: “I also want to recognise the fantastic work you are doing with the Act on Ambulances campaign. You have gathered signatures face to face and online, and won some great coverage for the cause. Your merit award for the campaign was richly deserved, and you are showing what a great campaign force you can be”.
The shadow ministers were thanked for their visit with a piece of Cromer – silver crab napkin holders.

about the government’s programme of savings which is taking £50m from the ambulance service over the next five years and has seen the number of double-staffed ambulances in the county reduced. With fewer emergency ‘red’ calls being met within the eight minute and 19 minute targets, and an increase in the number of green calls in north Norfolk, there is a clear need for more ambulances – not less – in our district.
In 2013 we will continue to press local MPs who support cuts in the ambulance service to rethink their stance, and we want to see less talk and more action at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital where there needs to be vast improvements in ambulance turnaround times.”
500 ambulance hours lost at the Norfolk & Norwich
Ambulances wasted more than 500 hours in October last year waiting to hand over patients at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital. The total is nearly three times as high as the second worst hospital, Addenbrookes in Cambridge, which lost 185 hours.
The October figure of 537 hours is a 57% increase since July. The figures were obtained by North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb. Mr Lamb has persistently highlighted the problem of ambulances ‘stacking’ at A&E, exacerbating the problem of slow response times in the county. Commenting, Mr Lamb said “These figures show the impact delays handing patients over are having on our ambulance service. It is the equivalent to having an ambulance out of action for 22 whole days in a single month. The consequences of that are obvious. Part of the problem is that the hospital is constantly under pressure. The hospital was built using the widely discredited Private Finance Initiative and with limited bed numbers. This means its always virtually full which makes it difficult to move patients into the main hospital from A and E. I have been saying for some time now that a key factor in poor response times in North Norfolk is handover delays at the Norfolk and Norwich. These figures absolutely support that. I am pleased that at the meeting I had last week with key people in the NHS in Norfolk, there was a clear recognition that the problem must be resolved. Cracking this issue is absolutely critical to improving the service here in Norfolk.”

New blow for north Norfolk families will hit same day as tax cuts for millionaires
North Norfolk Labour Party have slammed the government for implementing cuts to council tax benefit for families in the district on the same day there will be a tax cut for 8,000 millionaires.
The local Labour Party is concerned about the impact of cutting council tax benefit by 8.5pc in April which will they believe will punish those low earners in work in the district. A family of four with a weekly income of just £300 will now be expected to pay £100 in council tax as a result of the cuts, despite a commitment by the government to freeze council tax for all.
Denise Burke said: "Many of the families affected by these cuts will not be out of work as the government claims, but in work and struggling to make ends meet as the cost of living rises. By our council's own estimation the amount it will cost to retrieve funding from families who can't or won't pay may be greater than the actual amount they collect at the end of it.
We think it is unfair and the wrong priority to make those who can't pay bear the brunt of austerity while our local MPs support giving 8,000 millionaires an average tax cut of £107,500 at the same time."
Local councils this year will receive a transitional grant to soften the blow of the cuts, but it is feared the loss of this one-off payment in 2014 will have an even greater effect on families the following year.
Grumpy Old Man - A Word in your Face
I have noticed with increasing irritation how usage of the English language is becoming sloppier and unthinkingly formulaic, with broadcasters, news publishers and even the Prime Minister getting into the habit of saying the same thing twice - for example 7 p.m. this evening or 10 a.m. this morning, as if catering for people who have no idea what a.m. and p.m. mean. Even worse is 17.30 p.m. this afternoon! The time honoured (no pun intended) word ‘o’clock’ has fallen out of favour – too old fashioned I suppose, but Bill Hailey singing ‘One, two three p.m., four p.m. rock’ rather lacks the same impact.
The latest example which had me reaching for my pen as I perused my newspaper is – electronic e-mail! I suppose it will not be long before somebody states they have received an electronic e-mail on their computer, just to make sure we are aware it didn’t drop through their letterbox in a stamped envelope.
Nick Robinson, reporting on BBC News, has
just referred to prisoners on early release re-offending again. Re-offending is all that is needed, unless they are repeatedly re-offending, in which case say so.
My point is that these careless little slips in the correct use of grammar, of which there is an increasing number, mean misunderstandings and misinterpretations can easily arise, causing errors in judgement and leaving the sort of loophole that lawyers and accountants love. David Cameron has recently stated that a simple in or out referendum on membership of the EU gives the voters only two choices. No, it’s only one choice. Help us all!
One of my schoolmasters, at the beginning of each term, would write in the top left hand corner of his very large blackboard, in neat capitals, two simple commands: ‘Accuracy! Listen to instructions’.
We used to regard this as his little idiosyncrasy, but I have come to realise that the wisdom of this statement, which was never rubbed out, if

I received a draft of a legal document a few years back and was mystified by the wording in several places which could be interpreted in different ways. ‘Oh,’ said the solicitor airily, ‘if a problem arises any law office will be able to explain it!’ How appalling. How inaccurate! How condescending. The solicitor will charge for their explanation ...

All the readings were read by the current committee as this was the last occasion that they would all be together in office. Following the service Sybil presented all the committee with bunches of roses and thanked us all for our help and support during her term of office. Elisabeth Hill gave a vote of thanks to Sybil for all the hard work she had done both locally and through the diocese during her term of office and also for the love and care that she has shown to members of the Mothers’ Union and wider community. Elisabeth then presented Sybil with a silver MU brooch and a card signed by members and finally Ann presented her with a bunch of flowers. A rather emotional Sybil then declared that it was time for tea.
We all enjoyed a celebration tea provided by members and we completed a ‘shopping trolley’ quiz amid much laughter.
May we take this opportunity to wish every one a peaceful and healthy New Year.
Visitors and new members can always be assured of a warm welcome - further information is available from Ann on 402705.

Weather with Ned Nimbus
The past year has been notable for its abrupt change from drought to flood, although our area has been spared the worse of it.
There was little in the way of fine spells and all but a few days in July when the temperature progressed above normal. A continual band of cool westerly air ran across the Atlantic to us with little or no high pressure to weaken off or send this airmass on a more northerly route. Coupled with a summer sun the airmassess became quite volatile and it was quite easy for heavy rain to develop.
The past three months were overly optimistically forecast back in September although yet again we did not bear the brunt of endless bands of rain coming in from the south-west. Sunshine was above average in October and there has not been any sign of bitterly cold weather although this has not been far to the east in December.
January looks like an unsettled month with rain/showers at regular intervals, temperatures about average. There is little evidence that there will be any sustained cold weather.
In February pressure is likely to rise a little but the overall outcome for the month will be only a minor improvement on the previous month.
March will see a continuation of the unsettled theme with temperatures average or below, with only a few days reminding us that that the sun is on its way north and surely it is only a matter of time before the barbeque can be dusted down.
Husky Dogs Attack on Sheringham Beach
Do you know or are you the owners of three Husky dogs, two of which attacked a small Lakeland Terrier on Sheringham Beach on Sunday 30 December between 1pm and 2pm?
The owners of the Huskies did not stop and may not have realised that the Terrier was badly injured and required veterinary treatment for biting wounds. These owners continued walking with their dogs towards West Runton & Cromer.
The Terrier's distinctive collar and identity tags were also lost in the attack.
Please contact Sheringham Safer Neighbourhood Team by phoning Norfolk Constabulary on 101 or emailing snt-sheringham@norfolk.pnn.police.uk

Medals for veterans of the Arctic Convoy
It was announced by the Prime Minister at the end of last year that veterans of two Second World War campaigns will receive new medals, following a campaign by veterans’ groups.
Veterans of the Arctic Convoy will be recognised with an Arctic Convoy Star medal, while the aircrew of Bomber Command will be awarded a Bomber Command clasp.
The news follows a review by Sir John Holmes into the rules and principles governing the award of military campaign medals.
The Coalition Agreement included a commitment to review the rules surrounding the award of military campaign medals, as part of work to strengthen the military covenant. Liberal Democrat support for the National Defence Medal campaign led to the scope of the review being widened and Sir John Holmes, a former UK ambassador, being appointed to lead it.
A previous review conducted under the last Government was widely criticised for not consulting with outside groups.
Commenting, North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb said “I raised this with the minister on behalf of the many constituents who contacted me to voice their support for recognition for the veterans of the Arctic Convoy. I am thrilled that the Prime Minister has seen the importance of this issue and particularly of resolving it swiftly. The Liberal Democrats in Government have been working on the medal review for over a year now to get it as robust, as fair and as transparent as possible so that the extraordinary service of our veterans is recognised, no matter how long ago their bravery was displayed. In their thirteen years of government, Labour refused to look at specific medal campaigns. I’m proud that the Coalition is putting that right.”

£80m for victims of Thalidomide
The Government is providing around £80m funding over ten years to help support the victims of Thalidomide, Norman Lamb announced last month.
The money will be paid to the Thalidomide Trust, which provides help and support to people disabled by the drug. The grant, piloted for the last three years, has previously been used to help “thalidomiders” to alter their houses or other areas of life to improve health and living standards. This most recent announcement recognises that their needs are likely to increase as they approach older age.
Commenting, Care and Support Minister and North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb said “I was determined to ensure that thalidomiders had confidence that the necessary support would be there for them into the future. We wish to express our deep sympathy for the injury and suffering endured by all those affected by the drug Thalidomide. This deal represents our clear acknowledgment that thalidomiders should be supported and helped to live as independent lives as possible, and we hope that this funding will aid that cause and provide an element of long term financial security.”

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection
As the branch enters its 13th year we do not know what challenges we face in order to help cats in our area. During 2012 we again re-homed over 200 cats and kittens and believe that before the end of this year we will re-home our 3,000th cat, quite an achievement for a small branch run entirely by volunteers. During last year we also paid for nearly 300 cats to be neutered from branch funds (this figure does not include those helped with our fixed payment vouchers) and we will continue to help people on low incomes and benefits in this way.
Several of the cats and kittens which came into care last year had health problems. Cats like Nemo and Dori, victims of road traffic accidents who required cage rest, or kittens like Dollar and Tuppence who developed polyps which have required extensive surgery because they had cat flu when quite young for which they did not receive treatment before joining us. Also older cats like Simba (diabetes)and Trinny (thyroid) both now on medication for life who have settled in new homes with caring new owners who understand their problems. Veterinary care is expensive but we will always help a cat if we possibly can. Unfortunately, sometimes, we have to make the decision we all hate for the cat’s sake, as in the case of Sheba, the little stray who had a massive tumour in her mouth and could not eat.
At present we still have some of last year’s kittens in care that are now classed as young adults. They have seen their litter mates leave for new homes and for some unknown reason they have not
been chosen. All are beautiful and, because they have been with us for longer than usual, are well loved by their carers. Kittens like Tiger Moth, Comet, Piggy Malone Golly, Penny, Bluey, Graham, Patsy,Vulcan and Dakota, who are all micro chipped, vaccinated and neutered, and will make lovely companions giving lots of pleasure to their new families.
If you are looking for a cat or kitten please give a call on 01692 535858. Alternatively you can visit www.cats.org.uk/northwalsham for a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a FOR SALE call on the above number.
If, however, you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kitten please ring 07880 256948 (to see if you are eligible for a voucher).

Save a Life for Your New Year’s Resolution NATIONAL BLOOD SERVICE
People from North Walsham are being asked to consider saving a life or three for their New Year’s resolution by giving blood in 2013.
As the festive cheer leaves us and people ponder how to make the New Year better than the last, NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is challenging people to spare an hour of their time to donate blood.
The New Year’s resolution message comes at a time when there a need to recruit new donors after a dramatic decline in the number of younger donors signing up in 2012. NHSBT aims to recruit 100,000 new donors in 100 days to counteract this drop and protect future blood stocks.
With blood donation sessions available for people to book an appointment throughout 2013, it is important that people from North Walsham help to maintain stocks as hospital demand for blood remains high at the start of the year.
Derek Carr, NHSBT’s lead donor relations manager for the Anglia region said “New Year’s resolutions have become a bit cliché over the past few years as people always set themselves up for big challenges they are unable to complete. Our challenge is a simple one plus we can guarantee donors a warm welcome, a hot cup of tea and a biscuit to help
BLOOD DONOR SESSIONS
Thursday 24 January at the COMMUNITY CENTRE, NEW ROAD, NORTH WALSHAM 1pm – 3.15pm and 4.30pm – 7pm
boost their sense of achievement not to mention the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping sick and injured people in local hospitals with each and every donation they make.”
Anyone aged between 17-65, weighing more than 50 kg (7 stone 12lbs) and in general good health could potentially start saving lives by becoming a blood donor. There is no upper age limit for donors who have donated in the last two years.
For more information or to book an appointment, call 0300 123 23 23 or visit www.blood.co.uk
So you want to be a rock star?
North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) has announced that it is to work in partnership with three Norfolk arts organisations to provide a diverse and exciting programme of music activities for young people in north Norfolk over the next two years.
The Garage, Community Music East and Creative Arts East have each received funding from national charity Youth Music to help raise the creative aspirations of young people across the district by offering broad opportunities ranging from learning how to create different styles of music to managing and promoting a music event.
Community Music East, with funding from
Cabinet member for Tourism, Leisure and Cultural Services said, “These projects bring tremendous opportunities to the young people of north Norfolk to engage in music making and to learn new skills.
NNDC, is running a series of ‘rock school’ workshops across north Norfolk in 2013. Aimed at 14 – 18 year olds, the workshops have been designed to help young people develop their ‘band’ and performance skills. Activities will include song writing, instrument tuition, stage craft, recording and video making.
“The projects will also give young people the chance to consider the creative industry as a career option with activities designed to make the most of their talent, ranging from events management to working as part of a creative team”
The programme will begin in January 2013 and will run until October 2013. Those taking part will be offered the chance to perform at the Young People’s Venue as part of Norwich Sound and Vision’s annual festival which will run in October 2013.
If you are interested, have enthusiasm, commitment and enjoy working as part of a team, please contact NNDC’s Arts Officer Brenda Seymour on 01263 516053 for more information.

Recycling your own fat!
Fat transfer for facial and body contouring
A three dimensional face lift or body lift.
A lot of us think about improving our facial or body contours, whether it is to lose some fat from diet and exercise resistant areas or just to look good. Liposuction has come of age and is now performed purely under local anaesthesia. What is even more attractive is that we can now recycle this fat to fill out areas where you have lost volume from!
Fat is your own natural filler. Fat is not merely a passive ‘filler'. It is an active metabolic tissue and a rich source of various growth factors and stem cells. Use of fat to fill areas of volume loss is not new but we have new techniques and refinements which make it very successful. This procedure is very attractive if you are also considering body contouring or liposuction. Recent problems with breast implants have made fat transfer procedure attractive for breast enhancement.
What happens with facial ageing? The old method of looking at facial ageing was based on a gravitational model: that all things fall over time. The new model of the facial ageing process focuses on the primary importance of how the face deflates and loses volume decade after decade. What was once thought to be sagging has now been understood to be caused by facial deflation. A facelift without volume restoration looks artificial. Replacing lost fat results in a natural look.
What happens with ageing of the body? Redistribution of body fat occurs due to changes in metabolism and ageing. Fat is lost from certain body areas and face and accumulates in other areas such as chin, jowls, hips and thighs. These localised deposits of fat can be resistant to diet and exercise.
What is fat transfer? Fat transfer is the transfer of fat from one part of your body to another. A doctor must carefully harvest fat cells that are then injected to firm, fill out or plump up other body part like hands, cheeks, breasts or buttocks. This is also known as fat injections or autologous fat grafting.
How are fat injections different from commercial fillers?
There are many commercial injectable fillers such as Radiesse, Restylane, Sculptra, Juvederm etc that are available for facial rejuvenation. Each of these products has its own unique set of advantages and disadvantages. An ideal substance would be readily available, inexpensive, longlasting, naturalfeeling, and would not cause adverse reactions. Autologous tissue meets these requirements. Since it is your own body fat there is no chance of allergic reactions. Some of the injected fat can be reabsorbed by the body and more than one session may be required.
What happens during the procedure? This procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. The process requires gentle fat removal using lowvacuum limited liposuction and the use of thin, delicate, non-traumatic fine tubes to protect the survival of each harvested living fat cell. The fat cells are then purified and slowly injected through tiny skin incisions into the tissue of the recipient site utilizing a small syringe and cannula. Tiny droplets are placed throughout the tissues assuring that each transferred fat cell will have an adequate blood supply to achieve the permanent survival of the injected fat cells.
Fat transfer to FaceFacial areas that can be treated with fat injections include the temples, eyebrows, marionette lines, under eyes (tear trough), jaw line, nose to mouth lines, cheeks, chin and scars due to acne, chickenpox, injury or surgery. This provides a three dimensional volumetric face lift. Fat transfer to HandsFat injections to the hands achieve the effect of fuller more contoured hands as those of younger hands. Fat transfer for Breast enhancementFat can be taken from abdomen, flanks or thigh/ hip areas and delicately placed in fatty layer around the breast tissue. It can add around one cup size to the breast volume. Fat transfer to Buttocks (Brazilian Lift) – Liposuction of the waist and flanks combined with fat injection in buttocks. Microfat grafting can add fullness to any part of, or the entire buttocks to create the desired look. The fat is first gently liposuctioned from the abdomen, flanks, hips or thighs and then processed using a sterile decanting technique. The purified fat is then injected into the buttocks with special cannulas.
What will my recovery be like? Patients who have fat transfer experience a quick recovery. Our patients comment that they can go to work the next day. You are advised to rest for a few hours after the procedure. After 48 hours you may increase your activity as tolerated. Most patients are back to work within 2 to 5 days. Refrain from heavy exercise for a few weeks. Some amount of swelling and bruising can occur. Ice compresses are applied for 24-48 hours to minimize inflammation. Discourage massage and excessive facial animation immediately following fat grafting. These restrictions are to prevent migration of fat away from the desired areas of treatment. Call 0800 0430737 or log on to website www.coltishallclinic.co.uk for more information or to book a appointment.
What areas can be treated? The fat injections create a lasting youthful appearance.

North Walsham Table Tennis NWSCA Lose Out As Cup Semi Goes Down To The Wire
The first semi-final of the Knockout Singles Cup saw NWSCA’s Andy Beane, Tom Baldock-Yaxley and John Batchford take on the Gresham School line-up of Hubert Cheng, Robin Thaxter and Ian Darricott. Beane won the opener from two sets down as he defeated Cheng 12-14, 9-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-5. Thaxter then edged out Baldock-Yaxley 13-11 in the third before a good day at the office for Batchford saw him defeat Darricott 12-10, 11-4, 11-5. Cheng played well to level the tie at 2-2 and had Baldock-Yaxley right where he wanted him as the Gresham pupil won in four and then Gresham’s teacher Darricott was steady and forced Beane to play unnaturally as Darricott won in five. Thaxter was too consistent for Batchford as he won in straight, but then Baldock-Yaxley pulled one back for NWSCA with an 11-8, 11-3, 11-9 win over
Darricott. Batchford’s defence saw off Cheng 13-11 in the fourth as he sent the semi-final into a deciding match where Thaxter beat Beane 11-7, 11-9, 11-8 to send the School into the final with a narrow 5-4 win. In the final they will play Specials who beat their sister team Goblins 5-1.
In the second division Crosscourt’s John Welsh, Wren Thatcher and Eric Dolden hosted NWSCC’s Chris Johnson, Toby Usher and Phil Mole. Welsh won the opener in straight against Johnson before some good top-spin winners saw Usher defeat Thatcher in three. Mole was the more consistent as he got past Dolden in four. Johnson and Welsh then had straight sets wins against Thatcher and Mole respectively as NWSCC led 3-2 at the half way stage. Usher won a good match against Dolden 11-8, 12-10,
9-11, 11-7 before Mole beat Thatcher in three. Dolden’s defence saw off the attack of Johnson in three, before dominant play from Usher sealed the win for the visitors as he beat Welsh in straight. Usher and Johnson made a recovery from 1-9 down in the final set of their 114, 8-11, 13-11, 13-11 doubles win against Welsh and Dolden which concluded a 7-3 win for NWSCC.
