‘Crash Landing’ at Millfield Primary!
Covering North Walsham, Aylsham and surrounding villages in association with the Cromer Times and Sheringham Independent
Children from Millfield Primary School in North Walsham were amazed to find mysterious ‘wreckage’ on part of the school field on Friday 19 April.
The children from Middle phase were called into a special meeting with Mrs Harazduik, the Head Teacher, who explained to the children that she had received a call the previous evening telling her that something had ‘crash landed’ onto the school grounds. Mrs Harazduik contacted ‘special continued on page 4

North Walsham and District Branch of Cats Protection
We recently had a young cat of about eight months old handed into our care which was a stray and obviously quite poorly. First priority was to get her to the vets immediately to discover what the problem was and to commence treatment. It was apparent to the vet that Millie was having great difficulty breathing and an x-ray quickly identified the problem. This poor little cat had either been in a road traffic accident or been kicked and had a punctured lung due to damaged ribs. The vet had reservations as to her chances of surviving and prescribed steroids and antibiotics to give her the best chance possible. It was then down to her fosterer to provide lots of loving care and ensure she was kept calm and quiet to help her recover. It is now a month since Millie came into care and she is so much better. She will be gradually taken off the medication and we are hoping that, providing another x-ray indicates her lung continues to mend, she will be fit and well enough to be neutered in a few weeks. At our recent Plant Sale in North Walsham we raised nearly £600 for the cats in care. We thank everyone who supported us either by providing plants or coming to the sale. The winner of our Raffle was Mrs. Jenny Bates from Little Melton. Plans are now being finalised for the Hog Roast on Sunday 23rd June which will once again take place at Stephanie’s home in Dilham. Tickets, still only £10 each, are now available by contacting the “cat phone”. Why not come and join us? We usually have a good time including those fined by the dreaded “Car Park Attendant”. We recently had a call from someone whose cat kept going missing. She was upset as she had discovered that a neighbour was feeding her cat and encouraging it to go into her home although she had asked her politely not to. This is unfair on the owner and on the cat and it should not be encouraged to stay unless with the owner’s agreement. It could also, of course, be classed as stealing should the cat take up permanent residence. If the owner is happy then that is a different matter.

Meet Benson … A Muddled "Tail"
Described as white and black or black and white, a big, strong boy who is sometimes afraid of his own shadow, can run really fast but spends most of his time in bed not moving, aged 4 years (28 in human terms) but is a big baby, or should I say puppy, loves making his own bed in his kennel but hates going into the kennel after a walk.
This is Benson, a very handsome greyhound waiting for a home in Yarmouth Greyhound Homefinder's kennels. Benson's bed, like himself, is always in a muddle, he had a great racing career without ever quite reaching the heights but above all he absolutely adores people and loves to play, be cuddled, stroked, fussed, groomed, hugged and talked to. He is a muddled character but will make a lovely, loyal pet for someone.
If you would like to meet Benson, get more information, or arrange a home check, contact Homefinding Co-ordinator David Jones (Beeston Regis) through the Homefinders local rate call number 0845 458 3797

‘Crash Landing’
experts’ who took most of the wreckage away to analyse what they had found. But they left the children various pieces of the evidence for them to help the ‘experts’ find out what it was. Amazingly the mysterious articles left behind tied nicely into the children’s new topic for this term ‘To Infinity and Beyond.’ The children are learning all about the Solar system and using their knowledge to write an information text to explain about the different planets. Special reports were compiled by the pupils and their analysis of the scene and findings were varied. Sophie Thompson, from Sycamore class wrote, “Something had crashed and there was debris all over the school field, some of the grass is even scorched!” It has yet to be determined what the ‘wreckage’ was but the children think it might be part of a space station, a rocket or maybe even wreckage from an alien spaceship! Beetroot pappadelle, Blakeney mussels, basil and pinenut pesto cream sauce, rocket and parmesan
The sun has come out and our sous chef, Ally Streatfield, has come up with a great pasta recipe that I’m sure will feature on our specials boards all summer. The scullery has been festooned with gorgeous spinach and beetroot pasta hanging to dry, which is a great sight and very much enjoyed by the owner’s children. However it wasn’t enjoyed quite as much by their grandfather, who has been hunting around for his garden twine which had been ‘requisitioned’ by Ally to drape his pasta over...
We’ve hit the summer season with a bang – full houses over both Bank Holiday weekends and the pleasant surprise of an AA Gold Award and Dinner Award last week. We’re lucky enough to have a great staff and it’s a reflection of all their hard work and dedication. And to celebrate we’re putting on a summer-long lunch deal – groups of four get one meal completely free. So get your nearest and dearest along to see us for lunch this summer – 01263 512412 to book! BEETROOT PASTA 9oz pasta flour / strong white bread flour 6 egg yolks One cooked beetroot (pureed) Tbsp olive oil Tbsp celery salt
Place the flour and all the other ingredients into a blender until it’s of a nice doughy consistency. Roll out with a pasta machine and cut into 2cm ribbons.
1 clove of garlic 200ml olive oil 100g parmesan
Blend the basil, add the garlic and parmesan, blend a little more then add the rest of the oil and flavour.
MUSSELS 200g Blakeney mussels ½ white onion 1 clove garlic Cup white wine 250ml double cream 1 tbsp pesto (see below)
Heat up a pan and the finely diced onion, then the garlic. Place in the mussels, add ½ cup of white wine, the tbsp of pesto and double cream (250ml will be enough). Cook until the mussels open. At the same time, boil the dried pappadelle then add to the mussels in the pan. Serve with toasted foccacia and top with some lovely fresh rocket and a little bit more parmesan.
PESTO 1 bunch of green basil 100g toasted pinenuts

Call for entries for the Graham Allen Award Renovation projects and new buildings that sensitively capture the distinctive character of our local architecture could be in line for a prestigious award from North Norfolk District Council (NNDC).
Entries are now being sought for this year’s Graham Allen Award, the annual NNDC award for excellence in conservation and design. The closing date for entries is 30 June, 2013 and the award will be announced in September.
Inaugurated in 1982 as a memorial to the late GS Allen, the first Chairman of NNDC, the Graham Allen Award recognises the scheme which makes the biggest contribution to North Norfolk’s unique built heritage.
During the lifetime of the awards, a diverse range of projects have been recognised for their excellence, ranging from the new cloisters and refectory building at the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham to the innovative contemporary design of Curve House at Edgefield, and last year’s winner, The Gunton Arms, Thorpe Market.
For more information, or an entry form, please visit www.northnorfolk.org/planning/12799.asp or contact Paul Rhymes tel: 01263 516367, email: paul.rhymes@north-norfolk.gov.uk

Call for entries for North Norfolk Environment Awards Schools, small businesses, local community and voluntary groups in North Norfolk are being invited to enter one of the district’s most prestigious environmental awards.
North Norfolk District Council’s (NNDC) ‘John Sweeney Award for the Environment’ is now open for entries from local organisations who have been involved in environmental projects in the district. Any organisation that has worked to cut their own or others’ impact on the environment, or been involved in projects that have protected or enhanced the local or global environment is invited to submit an entry before the deadline of Friday 21 June.
The awards are now in their 19th year, and continuing last year’s format the winner of the John Sweeney Award will be presented with a prize of £500 and a commemorative plaque, with all shortlisted entrants receiving a certificate.
Last year’s joint winners were a low-carbon new-build scout hut in Mundesley and a local environmental education programme based at Holt Hall. Details of all past winners and runners-up and a copy of the entry form (also available by post from NNDC) can be found on the North Norfolk District Council website www.northnorfolk.org/environment/215.asp.
Entrants are assessed on how they have made a contribution to the environment, for instance by reducing their environmental impact, improving natural spaces or raising environmental awareness, and judging of all shortlisted entries will be carried out by a small panel in July. The awards will be presented at a ceremony during NNDC’s major environmental event of the year, Greenbuild, at Felbrigg Hall in September.
Anyone interested in entering or who would like to nominate an organisation in their area, should email sustainability@ north-norfolk.gov.uk or call 01263 516331.

Firstly to raise public awareness of the contribution made to our country by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. Secondly, it gives the nation an opportunity to show its support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, no matter where they are serving in the world.
There will be representatives from many ex service organisations including The Royal Naval Association, REME, RAF and local branches of the Royal British Legion and Women’s section RBL. We hope to have locally serving army and RAF personnel with us and Army cadets and ATC.
There will be displays of army uniforms and equipment through the ages together with a large parade of antique Britain’s lead soldiers, portraying the pre-1914 full dress uniform of the army.
We also hope to have a military vehicle or two outside the hall and relics from the Great War on display.
Refreshments at minimum cost will be provided by the Women’s section RBL Cromer.
A local school are participating in designing a poster for Armed Forces Day and the winners will be announced at the opening ceremony.
The exhibition will open at 9.30am and close about 4.30pm. All are welcome!

Matters to Consider when Buying a Property By Stephanie Connor, Solicitor with Hayes + Storr When buying a property, particularly if you are a first time buyer, there are many matters you should consider.
One issue is the costs involved in buying a property. The largest expense when buying a residential property is usually the Stamp Duty Land Tax which is normally payable if the property you are buying is worth more than £125,000. It is important to budget for all the expenses you will incur during your purchase. They include legal fees, a Land Registry fee and search fees with the local authority, water company and others.
If you plan to renovate or extend a property you should check to see if it is a listed building or in a conservation area, as this will affect what you are allowed to do. You might need to apply for planning permission or listed building consent before beginning work. In addition, you may also need to apply for building regulations approval - your Solicitor or the local Council will be able to give you
more information.
There can also sometimes be restrictions in the title deeds to a property requiring consent from a third party before an extension or conservatory is added. It is important to find out if this applies to your property, and this is normally explained during the conveyancing process.
When buying a flat it is important to check how many years are left on the lease. Most mortgage lenders require a minimum of the mortgage term plus 25 years, and sometimes longer than that. Your seller may need to arrange for the lease to be extended if there are not enough years left.
If you want to renovate a flat, there may be restrictions in the lease limiting what you can do with your property, such as preventing you from knocking down any internal walls. Your Solicitor will be able to advise you on this in more detail.
North Norfolk’s Award Winning Beaches
Buckets and spades, ice-creams on the prom and award-winning beaches, North Norfolk’s seaside resorts are some of the best in the country – and that’s official. Keep Britain Tidy announced last month that North Norfolk has four award-winning resort beaches, offering visitors great facilities, a litter free and safe environment and, in the case of Blue Flag awards, meeting the highest international water quality requirements. Flying the flag for North Norfolk’s seaside resorts in 2013 are Cromer, Sheringham and Sea Palling. All three are continuing the standard of excellence that was recognised with the awards of Blue Flag status last year. And this year East Runton beach has been awarded the new Seaside Award, recognising its high standards of beach management. Cllr John Lee, Cabinet Member for Environmental, Leisure and Cultural Services, said, “We are delighted that three of North Norfolk’s Blue Flag resort beaches have retained their awards this year and that East Runton has achieved the new Seaside Award. This, following the excellent comments we received in the Good Beach Guide earlier this year, confirms the district as a wonderfully clean, tidy and safe place to live and to visit, with some of the best seaside resorts anywhere.” Five North Norfolk beaches, these four plus Mundesley beach, were recently awarded the highly sought after ‘Recommended’ status in the Marine Conservation Society’s ‘Good Beach Guide’, which demands stringent water quality standards. To qualify for a prestigious Blue Flag resort beaches must achieve a high standard of bathing water quality, something that’s regularly monitored. But that’s not all. They must also show high standards of environmental education and information, such as clear signs and beach-related activities and events; environmental management, such as clean and accessible toilets and beaches, with regular beach cleans; and safety – bathers at all NNDC Blue Flag beaches are protected by RNLI Lifeguards. 12

Overview from North Norfolk Policing Commander
I return to a subject touched on briefly in a previous message concerning vehicle security at beauty spot car parks.
This is a seasonal crime which we start to see an increase of when the good weather appears and people start parking their cars in rural beauty spots.
Always think twice about what you really need to take with you if you are parking somewhere remote, and never leave anything in your car. Even if you think it’s well hidden, thieves know where to look.
If you see someone paying attention to vehicles within car parks or acting suspiciously then please record the vehicle registration number or description and call us on 101.

North Walsham Probus Club
Egyptology, the subject of a talk by David Morton to North Walsham Probus Club last month, may not be a title which evokes memory or imagination with many of us, but it certainly kindled the latter among some members.
Egypt was one of the first regions to become habitable after the Ice Age. The availability of water from the Nile and the warm climate created a fertile environment in which crop growth, natural forests and wild life flourished. Forensic science has established that the population was indigenous and appeared not to have been troubled by invaders.
Small groups formed, which later merged, becoming sufficiently strong to produce their own leaders. The first of these was the Scorpion King, so called because of his formidable fighting skills. Like many early
faiths they worshipped a number of gods. One belief was that the stars in the night sky were former kings.
At one stage thirty two dynasties ruled over the Nile delta and Upper Egypt to the south. Among the leaders who ruled both dynasties were King Naran and later Tutankhamen. Tutankhamen, a sun worshipper, ruled from the age of eight until he died at the age of eighteen, following a riding accident.
They were brutal fighters and did not take prisoners, perhaps one of the earliest forms of ethnic cleansing. The fall of the Pharaohs is attributed to the introduction Christianity, when much of the power passed into the hands of the priests.
The final dynasty was that of Cleopatra, whose baby was apparently born by Caesarean operation. Prior to the Third Dynasty the dead were laid on the ground and covered with sand
and stones, providing rich pickings for grave robbers. This led to the construction of the stepped pyramid by the architect Imhotop, built entirely of stone slabs at Sakkara. The world renowned Pyramids and the Sphinx at Giza were constructed during the Fourth Dynasty over a period of twenty years and employed 123,000 workers.
A greater understanding of contemporary life was found following the discovery of the Rosette stone, and the interpretation of the hieroglyphics, which it contained.
One of the popular tourist destinations is the Valley of the Kings, connected by a tunnel leading to the Valley of the Queens! Other features of interest are the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Cairo Museum. The latter has up to half a million artefacts still to be catalogued, while according to recent satellite technology, the same number remains interred. The next meeting is on 26 June - please note that new members are always welcome Tom Reid
North Norfolk District Council’s First Floor Gallery presents:
A mixed-media exhibition by Mike Pert 21 May – 22 July
North Norfolk District Council’s public art gallery is presenting a stunning new exhibition featuring photographs and collages from local artist and photographer Mike Pert.
The exhibition includes atmospheric black and white photos as well as colourful abstract shots from north Norfolk and other locations around the world, along with vibrant mixed media collages.
Born in 1947, Mike studied art for three years from 1964 to 1967. He has regularly exhibited in joint exhibitions throughout the UK, with previous solo shows at The Henderson Gallery in Edinburgh, at the National Trust’s Blickling Hall, Aylsham, and Wimpole Hall, Cambridge, at the Coast Festival 2012 and previously in the NNDC First Floor Gallery.
NNDC seeks to offer opportunities to local artists to display their work in the well-lit first-floor ‘gallery’ area in its Holt Road offices in Cromer, and in turn provides staff and visitors to the building the opportunity to see a variety of different artists’ work. Currently six exhibitions are held annually; open for view to the public during normal office hours; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8.30am – 5pm, Wednesday 10am – 5pm, Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm.

buttercups, rhododendrons and roses in bloom, while some of our most colourful wildlife, such as songbirds and butterflies, start to make an appearance.
Quirky signs encourage people to enjoy the outdoors...
Visitors to National Trust places in Norfolk will be forgiven for doing a double-take as they read signs telling them Keep on the Grass, Please Do Touch and RESERVED: for fun and games.
The colourful signs, which at first glance look like warnings or instructions, are part of a fun campaign by the Trust to encourage people to enjoy the natural world all around them.
The conservation charity also wants to challenge out-dated misconceptions that it is all about rules or is a bit stuffy. It aims to make it easier for families in particular to feel comfortable exploring the great outdoors by breaking down perceived barriers or restrictions.
Ben Cowell, the National Trust’s Regional Director for the East of England, said “The National Trust cares for some truly special natural places, such as woodlands, heaths, parks, beaches, gardens, fields and nature reserves.
“All of these places come to life in May and June, with bluebells,

“We know from research that some people still view us as being very formal with lots of rules and regulations. I would encourage those people to come along and see how we have changed over the years. We are experts at conservation of our built and natural heritage but we also make sure that we offer enjoyment and access to history, wildlife and outdoor experiences too. We think these new signs are a fun, tongue-in-cheek way to help people reconnect with nature and enjoy our outdoor places to the full.”
The signs show messages like:
• ATTENTION! You will need this to spot the abundance of wildlife in this area • QUIET PLEASE – and take time to hear the birdsong • PHOTOGRAPHS taken from this spot look fantastic • PLEASE DO SIT HERE – it’s such a lovely spot
Visitors will be able to spot the signs at Blakeney Point, Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall, Sheringham Park, Oxburgh Hall and the Brancaster Millennium Activity Centre from the end of May and throughout June.

Millfield goes International!
Millfield Primary School in North Walsham has been working hard over the last two years developing links with schools globally.
The children have worked on various projects collaboratively with schools in India, South Korea and China exchanging letters, games and school experiences. Mr Smith, the International Schools co-ordinator for the school, visited Shemford School, which is one of our link schools in India and spent time working with the staff and pupils there.
Mr Smith gave a special assembly on his return where he talked about all the amazing experiences and the wonderful people and children he met.
Mr Smith said, “It was a magical visit. I really felt part of the community and it was great to see projects by Millfield children being displayed around the school”.
Millfield School has now been awarded by the British Council the intermediate level of the International Schools Award. We cannot wait to develop our links further over the next year and look forward to speaking to new International friends.
Headteacher, Mrs Harazdiuk, said “I would like to thank Mr Smith for his hard work and thank the staff and pupils of Shemford School in India for extending such a warm welcome.”

The President Kim Reynolds opened the May meeting in which we discussed the resolution, ‘Decline of our high streets and town centres’. A lively debate ensued and a vote was taken at the end. This was followed by a cryptic quiz, refreshments with an assortment of delicious cakes.
Members who had attended the recent Spring lunch at the Beechwood Hotel in April all agreed it had been extremely enjoyable.
The craft group continues to meet at Stephanie’s and any member is welcome to join this friendly group. Both the darts and bowling teams are desperately looking for new players. Margaret Bane would be pleased to speak with any interested members.
There is an outing to Blickling Hall on 19 June for a living history day. Tins are still needed for the Fun Day in the park which is to be held on 30 June.
Our next meeting will be on 12 June and the speaker is Jan Overton speaking about ‘Hats’. The competition is a wedding photo.
We are a friendly group and extend a warm welcome to visitors and new members so come along and join us. Our meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 7.15pm at St Benet Hall, Vicarage Street, North Walsham. For membership information please contact Mrs Kim Reynolds on 01692 406246
Mothers' Union
Our speaker in May was the Reverend Susan Smith whose talk entitled Love's Endeavour, Love's Expense was based on a poem, which the Reverend Smith read to us, by V H Vanstone.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 11 June 2013 at 2.30pm in the St Nicholas Room when Ms Jeanette Boardman will speak to us in her capacity as a Police Support Worker and Lay Reader. Visitors and new members will be most welcome. For further information please contact Ann Herd on 01692 402705.

Sainsburys Donates to Friends as Redeveloped North Walsham Hospital Celebrates First Year
Sainsburys North Walsham is to make a sizeable donation to the group which is dedicated to supporting the town’s community hospital.
North Walsham and District War Memorial Hospital’s League of Friends will receive a cheque for £2,600 from the town’s branch of Sainsbury’s. The donation comes after the supermarket made the League of Friends its ‘Local Charity Partner of the Year’ between June 2012 and May 2013.
The cheque was presented last month at the hospital on Yarmouth Road, in North Walsham. The presentation took place between Sainsbury’s branch Manager, Rob Wilkinson, and Brian Elliot, Chair of the League of Friends. It was also attended by Mandy Mills, hospital Ward Manager, Brian Blackburn, Treasurer of the Friends and a representative of Longcross Construction, a contractor working on improvements at the local Sainsbury’s, who donated £1,000 of the total raised.
The hospital, which is run by Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust (NCH&C), boasts a modern, 24-bed ward, following a £3.7m project which saw the former hospital building demolished. Following a creative rebuild, the new ward reopened to patientsin May 2012.
As well as accessing expert rehabilitation care on the ward, patients can also access a range of outpatient clinics at the hospital, including physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, specialist neurological support, continence care, and podiatry services.
The League of Friends provides ongoing support to the hospital to further enhance the environment for patients and staff. Commenting on the donation, Brian Elliot said: “The Friends are very appreciative of the support Sainsbury’s have given us during the year.
“They organised a bookstall at their store, a tombola, a charity cricket match and collections. We have a wonderfully modern hospital, but the Friends are always looking at ways we can further enhance it. We rely
heavily on the generosity of the general public and local organisations, so our grateful thanks goes to all the staff and management of Sainsbury’s in North Walsham.”
Sainsbury’s North Walsham Manager, Rob Wilkinson, said: “Our colleagues and customers have really helped to support our fundraising during our year’s partnership with the League of Friends of North Walsham Hospital. To anyone who’s contributed to our overall total, all of our colleagues would like to thank you. Your donations have helped to support a local charity that’s close to many people’s hearts in North Walsham.”
Mandy Mills, Ward Manager, added: “We are always very grateful for all the support we receive at the hospital from the Friends, as well as from North Walsham’s wider community. Our hospital has a long history of serving the town’s population, so it is wonderful that local people continue to hold it so dearly and are so generous.”
The Friends of North Walsham Hospital has already earmarked some of the new funds to be used to further enhance the area around the hospital’s war memorial stone, which is adjacent to hospital’s reception. The project is expected to see a new paving and shingle area laid around the memorial, making it more attractive to visitors to the hospital.

Waitrose Presents Cheque to Community First Responders
Waitrose North Walsham presented North Walsham Community First Responders with a cheque for £409 as part of their Community Matters scheme.
Grumpy Old Man
When I was a boy, a visit from the doctor was an important event. On each occasion I was routinely and carefully examined. A general appraisal of my appearance and colour, whilst I sat mutely with a thermometer stuck uncomfortable under my tongue, preceded observation of the state of my ears, eyes, tongue and throat with a little torch and a wooden spatula employed with close analytical attention – ‘say aaah …’
My pulse was taken, my back sounded with rhythmic taps of his fingers. Out from the black medical bag came the stethoscope and I sat fascinated as Doctor dabbed the business end around my thorax and abdomen, his eyes unfocussed and non-committal, murmurs of uh-huh, ah-ha, hm-hm accompanied his aural exploration of my inner workings. All this took about ten minutes.
A rash or a pattern of spots usually produced a quick and certain diagnosis, particularly so if some of my pals were similarly afflicted, but the examination routine was never skimped or skipped. My mother was instructed regarding my care and a prescription issued on the spot. This was before the advent of the NHS, so there was always anxious but careful consideration before sending for the doctor because his fee was settled by the patient, so the call for his services was never casual or frivolous and his care and attention earned
Sarah Thompson received the cheque on behalf of the First Responders. "We are going to use this money to buy satellite navigation equipment for two more members of our team" she said." This will ensure they reach the call as soon as possible".
Kevin Woolstenholmes of Waitrose presenting the cheque to Sarah Thompson, with other members of the team in the background.
The Community First Responders team are always looking for new volunteers to help spread the load as their work is entirely voluntary. Waitress donates £1000 per month split between three charities, customers vote with their green token to choose the charity of their choice.
his living. Back then doctors were almost exclusively male and generally were held in very high esteem in the community and accorded great respect and deference.
When the NHS was established, the ethics of the profession and its relationship with the community carried on habitually, much as before, except poorer people were relieved of the anxiety of bills for medical attention which previously they could not afford. The system was still essentially local run on traditional lines and worked pretty well as complaints were rarely heard.
Fast forward to today and the NHS is in a pickle. Political interference over decades with more centralisation and diktats from a burgeoning bureaucracy has gradually crushed the medical profession into a cynical conformity in which the computer and the telephone are now the first response to the ill or wounded. General practitioners work office hours from grander premises and don’t turn

out to visit the sick if they can avoid it. Inefficiency is rife and the national organisation is so hopelessly huge and overblown it has become unmanageable.

The 'one-stitch facelift': Can one little stitch knock off a dozen years?
What is a One Stitch Face Lift? The idea for the procedure was prompted by an old Hollywood trick in which actresses used tape to pull slackened skin upward, taking great pains to hide the tape with hair or wigs. A Cosmetic Surgeon practicing in Beverly Hills took the concept and developed a procedure that would accomplish the feat more permanently. How is the procedure performed? The One Stitch Face Lift is a minimally invasive procedure offering Face Lift like results, but without the need to undergo major surgery and resultant prolonged recovery. It is a brief procedure performed totally under a local anaesthetic. We have modified it slightly so that instead of relying on one stitch, we use a few hidden stiches under the skin. There are few risks associated with the treatment and, due to its minimally invasive nature; it is safe for patients with diabetes, heart conditions or other medical problems. Most people find they are able to return to normal activities the
following day, but as there may be some associated swelling or bruising with the procedure, some may find it more comfortable to take a few days to recover. What results will I see? The results are subtle but are often just enough to give patients a fresher and firmer appearance. Patients who are looking to achieve subtle results without prolonged recovery time will really benefit from this procedure. What are the risks? With any procedure there are risks such as risk of bleeding, bruising and infection. Minimally invasive nature of this procedure however minimises these. Another name for this procedure is a Facelift Retighten, which enables patients whose facelifts have started to sag due to the ageing process to get an extra lift. What alternative treatments are available? You can have non-surgical treatments such as a liquid facelift, a full or modified facelift or the
Aylsham Country Market extends its hours
If you're going off to work early on a Friday morning, from 7 June you will have the opportunity to pop into Aylsham' Country Market before you go. The Market has had a tradition of opening at 8.50am but in response to customer feedback, in the future it will be opening its doors at 8.30. Market Manager Debra Kidd explains, "Customers have told us that if they need to be in work in the town by 9 o'clock, it's not always possible to get to the Market for the 8.50 opening time. The Market is a cooperative, so we asked our members if they were prepared to be there 20 minutes earlier and I'm happy to say that they all agreed".
Aylsham Country Market sells homemade cakes, savouries and cookies alongside craft items, plants, vegetables and eggs. The wide range of goods is ideal for stocking up for the weekend, or simply picking up a snack on the way to work. For those who enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle, there is also a café which sells bacon butties, cakes, sausage rolls and of course tea, coffee and hot chocolate. The Market and its café are open every Friday morning from 8.30am to noon.
innovative laser facelift. What are the costs? The fee for one stitch facelift is £1750 which compares very favorably with the cost of a facelift under a general anaesthetic. For more information contact Coltishall Clinic on 01603 736487 or log on to the website www.coltishallclinic.co.uk

Keep Trade Local and get to know your North Norfolk businesses!
The Federation of Small Businesses is holding an event at Fakenham racecourse on June 20 for you to see the small businesses that exist in North Norfolk and what they have to offer. Nine out of ten businesses in the UK employ less than fifty people, with small firms often providing services and creating fantastic products from their homes or a small office space. Unlike large firms, who often have advertising budgets and shop fronts to attract customers, small businesses can be reliant on word of mouth. Much of the charm of North Norfolk is derived from its independent nature, and for Andrew Hoyes, owner of the Norfolk nail laser clinic, the Market Place in rural North Walsham was an idyllic setting for his business. Andrew moved down from London in 2002, and has travelled extensively, but sees North Norfolk as an ideal place for small firms. He is currently the 8th chiropodist in the country to have a laser in his practice, proving that small firms are often at the cutting edge of innovation. The benefits to using a local business are numerous - for every pound you spend with a North Walsham firm around 70p stays in the local economy, compared to a maximum of 30p if you choose a national business. Local firms also know their community and will often be involved in supporting it in a number of ways. Show your Business, at Fakenham Race Course, will be a great opportunity to see how when you choose to support a local business, you are often indirectly supporting a chain of other small firms, such as Derek’s, who help keep these businesses ticking over. The event aims to show you a small business that you might never know existed, whether for a service like accounting, or an artisan producer! If we don’t use our independent and high quality firms, we are in danger of losing them and North Norfolk losing its quaint and unique charm.
The Prince of Wales stand will be open from 2pm until 6pm. For further details please visit www.fsb.org.uk/eastanglia If you are a business interested in taking a stand, please visit www.showyourbusiness.eventbrite.com North Walsham Times 424 June 8th 2013

BILLIARDS and SNOOKER PLAYERS WANTED
Would you like to attend the league presentation and finals night as our guest? It will be at the Morley club on 15th June, finals start at 730 pm followed by presentation of trophies and a buffet. The ALBY BILLIARDS DARTS AND SNOOKER LEAGUE was formed in 1932 “to foster and improve the games of Billiards, Darts and Snooker in a sporting atmosphere”, in the North Norfolk area. At its height there were 18 Billiards teams who also had a darts team playing at the same time and venue and 48 Snooker teams in three or four divisions. Over the last few years this has gradually diminished to 5 Billiards teams that no longer play any darts and 7 snooker teams. To allow this league to continue and again
grow in strength we are looking for new players for the Billiards and the Snooker teams or new 6 man teams that play in the Holt, Sheringham, Cromer, Mundesley, North Walsham, Aylsham and Hevingham area. If you are interested in playing Billiards or Snooker in a friendly atmosphere and are free on Thursday night for Billiards or Monday night for Snooker please contact General Secretary who will advise you of your nearest club. If you can form a full team we will be welcome new teams or returning teams and venues. The league AGM will be held in Aylsham on 15th July where the league fees are collected and new teams nominated so any applications should be made known to me as soon as possible.
I look forward to hearing from you. Dave Curtis Alby League General Secretary Mobile 07586 035605 or email albybdsl@outlook.com
Woodgate Nursery Garden Show raises £647.96 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance
Over 3000 visitors were treated to a wonderful weekend of gardening inspiration at the recent Woodgate Nursery Garden Show. From Chelsea Flower Show inspired garden designs and willow weaving demonstrations to birds of prey displays and a children’s treasure hunt there was something for everyone. Mrs Joice from Hoe said " We come along to the show every year and just love the show gardens and talking to the garden designers. We think it’s wonderful because we can find solutions to all of our gardening needs in one place and we also love coming to Purdy’s Tea Room, their cakes and lunches are just delicious”.
The winner of this year’s best show garden,

KJ Myhill Building and Gardening Services came second with his courtyard garden featuring a hand built pergola and water feature. I had the opportunity to test drive the Ford B-Max supplied by East Coast Motors in Beach Road, Cromer, reports Pete Smewin. The B-Max is the Ford model between the Fiesta and Focus and is a really good recent innovative and ingenious addition to The Ford range. It comes in three styles, Studio Zetec and the top of the range Titanium. The model I drove was the mid range Zetec. It is a 5 door ,the rear doors are sliding and when the front and rear doors are open give you an impressive unobstructed 1.5 metres opening making it easier to load and unload, especially when you are strapping children into a child safety seat. The B-Max achieves this by concealing its central strengthening pillar within the doors rather than in the body side giving you the unobstructed opening. The front passenger and drivers seatbelts are housed within the seat structure rather than the bodywork which was the only thing that I had to get used to.

The range consists of four petrol engines including the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine which gained Ford the prestigious engine of the Year award in 2012. The Zetec model I drove also features the Ford EcoMode driver information system, which is a smart software monitor of your driving style. It displays the impact on your cars fuel economy, which definitely helped me change my style of driving. This was a delightful experience to drive this well equipped and responsive compact car and I could not fault it for comfort, ease of driving and its loading and unloading capabilities. All in all this is a very classy little car. Prices start from just £12,995. I would urge you to give Adam or Graham, at East Coast Motors(01263 513181) an early telephone call to book your test drive in this impressive car. I do not think you will be disappointed.

It was agreed to bring this to the attention of readers of the Times and local newspaper reminding people that dog bags can be deposited in normal litter bins in the town as well as dog bins provided for the purpose. It was also agreed that this is a disgusting habit of dumping bags in the street or throwing them into trees or over fences. It is also hoped that responsible dog owners pick up after their pets, particularly in children’s play areas.

North Walsham Table Tennis STAR PAVING SERVICES
Golden Celebrations at Special Season Finale
The curtain came down on the season with the annual AGM and Trophy Presentation night; however this was no normal AGM as around a hundred players from the past and the present gathered at the Lighthouse Inn, Walcott to mark the North Norfolk League’s (formerly the Cromer and District) golden jubilee. Trophies, press cuttings and scorecards from the past were all on display and the night concluded with the presentation of the trophies with League Chairman Chris Pooley acting as master of ceremonies. Dave Dewbury of League sponsor Star Paving Services made a large number of the presentations to the League, Cup and Championship winners, however on this special occasion some personalities from the League’s past were also drafted in to help out. As well as reflecting on fifty glorious years, this year’s AGM was a time to look to the future and the junior scene is currently very encouraging. The junior championships recently took place at North Walsham Sports Centre and were won by Tom Wardle with Stuart Hook finishing as runner-up. Back at the AGM and Tom Wardle – who has been able to be an active member of the League despite going through several heart
operations at Great Ormond Street Hospital – and James Morter – whose great play continues to impress – were named as this years Natwest Junior players. The Chairman’s Special Awards were presented to League Secretary Tracey Baldock-Yaxley for all her hard work behind the scenes, Philip Stone for completing ten years as Press Officer and Mary Sawyer in recognition of everything she has done for the League since moving to the area twenty five years ago. The tables were then turned on Chairman Chris Pooley as President Peter Ward and the executive committee made a special presentation recognising the hours of work he had put into the League over numerous decades through holding every post except treasurer and Mary Sawyer presented him with a framed print of when he was featured in a North Norfolk News article in 2000 (when he was photographed with the ball that had increased in size). The climax of every season is the presentation of the Alan Bunting Memorial Trophy for the League’s Sporting Personality who every year is voted for by the players of the League. The award is presented in the memory of a former player who despite playing with an artificial limb was very

June Wedding
June is a special month, The month I chose to marry, I remember the day so well, The cream roses that I carried, The rustle of my silk dress, As I walked up the aisle, Then seeing the man I love,
Turn to me and smile. But that was 50 years ago, The world is changing fast, As we sit in our garden, And reminisce about the past.
Diane Berthelot
difficult to beat and was a great Sportsman but sadly died very young. This year the presentation of this award became even more emotional as Alan’s son Gary, whose father died shortly before his eighth birthday, attended the League’s celebrations especially to present the trophy named in his father’s memory and he presented it to a great character who epitomised the award – a player who always has a smile on his face and someone who regularly assists with the coaching of the juniors – the League’s Vice Chairman Eric Dolden.
• Highlights of the 50th reunion and the trophy presentations can be viewed on the League’s Official highlights channel on Youtube at www.youtube.com/user/SeriouslyBatty
• A special article looking back at the top 50 moments in the League’s 50 year history is on the news and press section of the League’s official website at www.nnttl.org.uk/asp_pages/news.asp
